Good afternoon, guys. You are watching Newsround with me, Jenny. | :00:11. | :00:16.
15-year-old Kieran is one of 11 million people | :00:17. | :00:18.
He got in touch with Newsround to tell us how difficult it was | :00:19. | :00:23.
for him to travel around his home town of Wick, in rural Scotland. | :00:24. | :00:26.
For lots of people, getting around can be really challenging, and they | :00:27. | :00:29.
often need things like ramps to get help to get from place to place. | :00:30. | :00:32.
We sent Martin to meet Kieran, and hear his story. | :00:33. | :00:39.
I have come to Wick way up in the North of Scotland to meet Ciaran who | :00:40. | :00:47.
has cerebral palsy just like me but what is life like getting around a | :00:48. | :00:52.
small place like this? Cerebral palsy is a condition that can affect | :00:53. | :00:57.
your movement and coordination and, like me, Kieran spends a lot of time | :00:58. | :01:02.
in his wheelchair. It basically affects my two legs which can make | :01:03. | :01:08.
mobility and issue around school, around town and around buses. Can | :01:09. | :01:15.
you give us an insight into what challenges you face? Steps | :01:16. | :01:20.
everywhere. Bumps in the pavement. Just generally trying to get around | :01:21. | :01:27.
places. How does it make you feel? Sometimes it is OK to get help but | :01:28. | :01:34.
in other situations you kind of just want to say, please, leave me to get | :01:35. | :01:44.
on with it, but sometimes that is not an option. I am a teenager and I | :01:45. | :01:50.
am seeing all of my friends go off and become very independent and not | :01:51. | :01:58.
need as much help as I do. Why is access ability such a problem? | :01:59. | :02:03.
Because there are so many old buildings, stone built buildings, | :02:04. | :02:08.
narrow doorways, it can be a bit of a challenge. What are the main | :02:09. | :02:11.
reasons why the changes are not being made? Everything comes down to | :02:12. | :02:17.
finance. If we had unlimited funds and the shopkeepers and unlimited | :02:18. | :02:22.
funds it would be done tomorrow. What would Ciaran like to see in the | :02:23. | :02:27.
future? A lot more ramps and the potholes are a lot more fixed and | :02:28. | :02:31.
the new pavements put in. I am not going to let this, this hunk of junk | :02:32. | :02:39.
get in my way because I know what I want to do. What job do you want to | :02:40. | :02:44.
do when you grow? I wanted your job, I am coming for you, mate! | :02:45. | :02:51.
If there's an issue you feel strongly about, | :02:52. | :02:53.
contact us on the Newsround website and tell us about it. | :02:54. | :02:55.
Newsround's back, bright and early tomorrow morning at 8.15am. | :02:56. | :03:00. |
