Hey everyone, Leah here with today's Newsround.

0:00:040:00:06

Loads to get through including:

0:00:060:00:09

We meet the scientists checking air pollution from the sky.

0:00:090:00:13

How cool is it being a world champion surfer?

0:00:130:00:16

And oven gloves at the ready - tonight's the final of Bake Off!

0:00:160:00:24

Now, when it comes to pollution you might think of things down

0:00:300:00:33

here on the ground like car fumes and factories, but to find out more

0:00:330:00:38

about how clean the air in our cities actually is,

0:00:380:00:40

scientists are taking to the skies.

0:00:400:00:42

And Martin has gone along with them.

0:00:420:00:48

This is one of the most advanced scientific aircraft in the world.

0:00:480:00:52

It is this plane's job to measure the amount of air pollution

0:00:520:00:55

there is in cities across the UK and I'm about to hop on board

0:00:550:00:59

from East Midlands to Manchester to see how it works.

0:00:590:01:09

On the outside it might look like an ordinary aeroplane,

0:01:100:01:13

but on the inside it is a high-tech chemistry lab.

0:01:130:01:19

On board I spoke to one of the lead scientists to find out more.

0:01:190:01:22

James, what are we doing on this aircraft today?

0:01:220:01:26

We are flying off the coast of Liverpool and Manchester.

0:01:260:01:29

The wind is currently blowing all the pollution that gets emitted

0:01:290:01:32

from cars and factories and things, it is blowing it over the sea

0:01:320:01:36

and we are crossing that plume of pollution trying to measure how

0:01:360:01:39

much is in it.

0:01:390:01:41

Air pollution is bad for us.

0:01:410:01:44

What we are doing here is trying to understand better where this

0:01:440:01:48

pollution is coming from, how much is being emitted and then

0:01:480:01:52

going forward how to better inform people as to how we can improve

0:01:520:01:56

the air quality in our cities.

0:01:560:02:01

James, how unique is this aircraft in what it does?

0:02:010:02:05

It is the only one in the UK.

0:02:050:02:09

It is the largest one in Europe and it is pretty much

0:02:090:02:13

state-of-the-art.

0:02:130:02:15

Compared to other aircraft around the world it is

0:02:150:02:17

pretty much the best.

0:02:170:02:20

We have got a few bits of equipment out hanging beneath the wings that

0:02:200:02:24

measure things like clouds as we go through them and we have also got

0:02:240:02:27

quite a lot of equipment inside the aircraft cabin.

0:02:270:02:29

The air is being sucked through and our instruments

0:02:290:02:33

are providing a measurement of the different air pollutants.

0:02:330:02:35

There is a lot of high-tech equipment being flown around

0:02:350:02:38

in this aircraft cabin.

0:02:380:02:44

Liverpool are into the quarter finals of the League Cup

0:02:440:02:46

after beating Tottenham 2-1 last night.

0:02:460:02:48

England striker Daniel Sturridge scored both of the Reds' goals

0:02:480:02:52

having been out of the team for most of this season.

0:02:520:03:01

In tonight's big cup match Manchester United play

0:03:020:03:05

against Manchester City at Old Trafford later today.

0:03:050:03:07

Neither team won this weekend.

0:03:070:03:10

Man City drew with Southampton but Man United got thrashed by Chelsea.

0:03:100:03:13

The City Manager Pep Guardiola says the fact that it's a local derby

0:03:130:03:16

makes it even more exciting.

0:03:160:03:20

A derby is a derby.

0:03:200:03:25

So we are not going to play a game like just a game,

0:03:250:03:30

it is a special game, it is a final, a competition game.

0:03:300:03:34

We are going to try to...

0:03:340:03:38

We are going to try no, we are going to play seriously

0:03:380:03:41

like always we do since my period here and try to win the game.

0:03:410:03:51

Now, because it's freezing outside here in the UK how

0:03:530:03:56

about a big surfing competition in Portugal to end on?

0:03:560:03:59

This guy is John John Florence.

0:03:590:04:01

He's officially the best surfer ever after wining

0:04:010:04:03

the 2016 World Championship.

0:04:030:04:06

His was a flawless performance in the waves.

0:04:060:04:08

The tournament hasn't even finished but Florence has so many points

0:04:080:04:11

nobody can beat him.

0:04:110:04:15

And finally the Great British Bake Off will air for the last time

0:04:150:04:18

on the BBC with tonight's final.

0:04:180:04:19

So just who will be crowned the series winner?

0:04:190:04:23

Well, with this year's Royal Theme, Candice, Andrew and Jane will be

0:04:230:04:28

getting their whisking spoons and hoping it's them.

0:04:280:04:30

At 8.15 we'll be talking more about the show,

0:04:300:04:32

but before then head online for loads of Bake Off

0:04:320:04:35

related stuff including a profile of the finalists.

0:04:350:04:38

We also want to know who you think should win Bake Off tonight?

0:04:380:04:41

Get in touch and we'll read out some of your comments later on.

0:04:410:04:46

That's all from me.

0:04:460:04:49

Newsround's back right here in about half an hour.
