Hi, I'm Leah and your live with Newsround. On today's show. The dogs | :00:00. | :00:10.
scoring touchdowns - and the toy car that's been super-sized. This is | :00:11. | :00:20.
Newsround. First, to Somerset in South West England where large parts | :00:21. | :00:23.
have been underwater for almost a month. People's homes, shops and | :00:24. | :00:28.
fields have been completely flooded after overflowing rivers burst their | :00:29. | :00:38.
banks. Now the army's being sent in to help out, bringing supplies and | :00:39. | :00:41.
sandbags to keep the water away. In the village of Muchelney, it's so | :00:42. | :00:45.
badly flooded the only way to get to school is by boat. We've spent the | :00:46. | :00:49.
morning with Emily and Gemma who live there. Hello, I'm Emily. And | :00:50. | :01:02.
I'm Gemma. We live in Muchelney. We've been cut off by flooding. Life | :01:03. | :01:06.
has changed a lot since the floods. To get to school now we have to get | :01:07. | :01:10.
dressed in wet weather clothes like wellies in the morning. It's a real | :01:11. | :01:14.
pain. Our school is in Langport - but because of the floods we have to | :01:15. | :01:22.
now get a boat! Come on, we'll show you. Our village has been cut off | :01:23. | :01:26.
from.everyone else since New year's eve. Some of our friends join us on | :01:27. | :01:29.
the journey. We've done this for four weeks now. We have to get | :01:30. | :01:33.
across this water. Before Christmas it wasn't here Sometimes we have to | :01:34. | :01:37.
wait half an hour for the boat and sometimes it's full. If you miss it | :01:38. | :01:41.
we often have to wait in the rain. At first the water was quite fun - | :01:42. | :01:45.
but now it's got too deep and dirty to play in. We have to do a lot of | :01:46. | :01:50.
walking to get to and from the boat. We've had to miss lots of days | :01:51. | :02:05.
at school and we often have to.leave early to.get the boat back We can't | :02:06. | :02:09.
do any school clubs or see our friends after school. Our friends at | :02:10. | :02:13.
school have had lots of problems as well. I have not been to my house | :02:14. | :02:19.
since Christmas. I had to spend my birthday in someone else's house. It | :02:20. | :02:23.
used to take 15 minutes to get to school, and now it takes 30 minutes. | :02:24. | :02:27.
The water has come up through the floor and we have not been able to | :02:28. | :02:32.
spend time there. We don't know when the water will go away, but we hope | :02:33. | :02:37.
it is soon, or we will keep having to get the boat. And the bad weather | :02:38. | :02:44.
looks set to continue, with more rain, as well as snow forecast for | :02:45. | :02:48.
much of the UK over the weekend. But if it's any consolation it's not | :02:49. | :02:52.
going to get as cold as it is in America, where thousands of people | :02:53. | :02:56.
have been stuck in their cars and schools by a rare snowstorm. The | :02:57. | :02:59.
cold snap stretched across several southern states, plunging | :03:00. | :03:02.
temperatures to minus 34 Celsius. On the Newsround website you can find | :03:03. | :03:06.
out more about the story behind that. Next, doctors at a hospital in | :03:07. | :03:11.
Cambridge think they could be a step closer to finding a cure for peanut | :03:12. | :03:14.
allergies. It's one of the most common food allergies in the world, | :03:15. | :03:19.
and it can be really dangerous. Doctors carried out special medical | :03:20. | :03:22.
trials in hospital on a number of children with peanut allergies by | :03:23. | :03:25.
very carefully giving them tiny extracts of the nut over five years. | :03:26. | :03:28.
And for most of them, the allergy went away. There are still lots more | :03:29. | :03:33.
tests to do before this treatment becomes more widespread, but one of | :03:34. | :03:36.
the doctors behind the hospital trial says it's exciting news. It | :03:37. | :03:44.
could be a game changer for the way that we treat food allergies in | :03:45. | :03:47.
future. It is innovative. It is a world first. We believe this could | :03:48. | :03:52.
result in a treatment for food allergy. It is vital that you do not | :03:53. | :03:57.
try this at home if you have a peanut allergy. It can only be done | :03:58. | :03:59.
under special supervision in hospital. So as he says, it's really | :04:00. | :04:06.
important to remember that this trial was carried out safely by | :04:07. | :04:09.
medical experts and eating any amount of peanuts can be incredibly | :04:10. | :04:12.
dangerous for anyone with a nut allergy. Make sure you join us at | :04:13. | :04:20.
6.50pm for a full report on this story. Next to the biggest football | :04:21. | :04:23.
game of the year, played by pets. American football fans across the | :04:24. | :04:26.
world will be glued to their TVs when the Super Bowl kicks off on | :04:27. | :04:30.
Sunday. But until then they can watch the Puppy Bowl. All the | :04:31. | :04:33.
animals on show are up for adoption - and it's not just pups, there are | :04:34. | :04:37.
footballing felines as well as some ball-boy birds. Incredible. And | :04:38. | :04:41.
finally, loads of you will have had a ride in one of these at some | :04:42. | :04:45.
point. Well one man loves them so much, he's built a giant adult-size | :04:46. | :04:51.
version! John's replica can reach a top speed of 70 miles per hour and | :04:52. | :04:55.
cost him ?4,000 to build. It even has headlights and an airbag. But no | :04:56. | :04:58.
windows! That's all from me and the Newsround team. We are back at | :04:59. | :05:00.
6:50pm. | :05:01. | :05:02. |
