Hi, I'm Leah and your live with Newsround. On today's show. The dogs

scoring touchdowns - and the toy car that's been super-sized. This is

Newsround. First, to Somerset in South West England where large parts

have been underwater for almost a month. People's homes, shops and

fields have been completely flooded after overflowing rivers burst their

banks. Now the army's being sent in to help out, bringing supplies and

sandbags to keep the water away. In the village of Muchelney, it's so

badly flooded the only way to get to school is by boat. We've spent the

morning with Emily and Gemma who live there. Hello, I'm Emily. And

I'm Gemma. We live in Muchelney. We've been cut off by flooding. Life

has changed a lot since the floods. To get to school now we have to get

dressed in wet weather clothes like wellies in the morning. It's a real

pain. Our school is in Langport - but because of the floods we have to

now get a boat! Come on, we'll show you. Our village has been cut off

from.everyone else since New year's eve. Some of our friends join us on

the journey. We've done this for four weeks now. We have to get

across this water. Before Christmas it wasn't here Sometimes we have to

wait half an hour for the boat and sometimes it's full. If you miss it

we often have to wait in the rain. At first the water was quite fun -

but now it's got too deep and dirty to play in. We have to do a lot of

walking to get to and from the boat. We've had to miss lots of days

at school and we often have to.leave early to.get the boat back We can't

do any school clubs or see our friends after school. Our friends at

school have had lots of problems as well. I have not been to my house

since Christmas. I had to spend my birthday in someone else's house. It

used to take 15 minutes to get to school, and now it takes 30 minutes.

The water has come up through the floor and we have not been able to

spend time there. We don't know when the water will go away, but we hope

it is soon, or we will keep having to get the boat. And the bad weather

looks set to continue, with more rain, as well as snow forecast for

much of the UK over the weekend. But if it's any consolation it's not

going to get as cold as it is in America, where thousands of people

have been stuck in their cars and schools by a rare snowstorm. The

cold snap stretched across several southern states, plunging

temperatures to minus 34 Celsius. On the Newsround website you can find

out more about the story behind that. Next, doctors at a hospital in

Cambridge think they could be a step closer to finding a cure for peanut

allergies. It's one of the most common food allergies in the world,

and it can be really dangerous. Doctors carried out special medical

trials in hospital on a number of children with peanut allergies by

very carefully giving them tiny extracts of the nut over five years.

And for most of them, the allergy went away. There are still lots more

tests to do before this treatment becomes more widespread, but one of

the doctors behind the hospital trial says it's exciting news. It

could be a game changer for the way that we treat food allergies in

future. It is innovative. It is a world first. We believe this could

result in a treatment for food allergy. It is vital that you do not

try this at home if you have a peanut allergy. It can only be done

under special supervision in hospital. So as he says, it's really

important to remember that this trial was carried out safely by

medical experts and eating any amount of peanuts can be incredibly

dangerous for anyone with a nut allergy. Make sure you join us at
