Hi, I'm Ricky, live from Port Talbot, where thousands | :00:09. | :00:11.
of people at the steelworks are worried about losing their jobs. | :00:12. | :00:24.
Hello from the town of Port Talbot in South Wales, where families | :00:25. | :00:28.
are waiting to find out what is going to happen to that huge | :00:29. | :00:31.
The company that owns it says it wants to sell its factories and many | :00:32. | :00:38.
As you drive into Port Talbot as we did today, you can spot the chimney | :00:39. | :00:56.
breasts and they have got giant furnaces which is producing all of | :00:57. | :00:59.
that steel but there is also a distinct smell in the air from that | :01:00. | :01:01.
production. Thousands of people work over there, | :01:02. | :01:03.
and so it's incredibly important to children who live in this town, | :01:04. | :01:06.
as their mums and dads have jobs I've been finding out why it's such | :01:07. | :01:09.
a big issue right now. Steel is the most widely | :01:10. | :01:16.
used metal in the world. It can be extremely | :01:17. | :01:19.
strong and flexible. It's used to make all kinds of | :01:20. | :01:22.
things like buildings and bridges. Planes, trains, and cars all have | :01:23. | :01:25.
parts made out of steel to help And you'll find it all over your | :01:26. | :01:29.
home in things like washing The UK has a long history of making | :01:30. | :01:34.
steel, dating all the way back to the 1800s, but over the last few | :01:35. | :01:47.
decades this has been changing. Nowadays, it's China that leads | :01:48. | :01:51.
the way producing around half However, it's making more steel | :01:52. | :01:55.
than it actually needs, selling all the extra stuff cheaply | :01:56. | :02:00.
all around the world. This is a problem for steel plants | :02:01. | :02:03.
in the UK. They say they're losing business | :02:04. | :02:06.
because they can't match the low prices of cheaper Chinese steel, | :02:07. | :02:10.
forcing many UK A steelworks in Redcar | :02:11. | :02:12.
in the North East of England closed last year and now more | :02:13. | :02:19.
jobs are at risk. Tata Steel is the biggest steel | :02:20. | :02:22.
company in Britain and it now says it wants to sell off | :02:23. | :02:25.
all its steelworks in the UK, which means that thousands of people | :02:26. | :02:29.
could lose their jobs. The biggest steel plant in the UK | :02:30. | :02:32.
is in Port Talbot in south Wales. It's really important to families | :02:33. | :02:37.
living in the town. Now, the UK Government | :02:38. | :02:43.
and the Welsh Assembly Government The UK Government says it wants | :02:44. | :02:46.
to keep steel plants in the UK open and is working to try | :02:47. | :02:52.
to make this happen. I'll be speaking to children | :02:53. | :02:56.
who live here in Port Talbot and have more on this story | :02:57. | :03:01.
on tomorrow's Newsround but for now | :03:02. | :03:04.
it's back to Leah in the studio. Also today we're talking about how | :03:05. | :03:09.
Leicester City's brilliant run in the Premier League is inspiring | :03:10. | :03:14.
girls to enjoy the beautiful Leicester City Football Club have | :03:15. | :03:18.
put in an astonishing performance In just 12 months, they have | :03:19. | :03:29.
stormed from the bottom of the Premier League to prove | :03:30. | :03:33.
themselves as potential The team have put in such | :03:34. | :03:35.
a successful performance over the past year that it's encouraged | :03:36. | :03:40.
these girls to get more All the kids turning to some of our | :03:41. | :03:54.
sessions in the Leicester City kick, I have been outdone by Jamie Vardy | :03:55. | :03:59.
when asking girls want the perfect session would be and they want him | :04:00. | :04:03.
to come and coach. It has been absolutely massive. Sometimes you | :04:04. | :04:11.
are with your friends and you get to meet new people as well. You are | :04:12. | :04:16.
working together. You pass the ball to everybody. I like to go to watch | :04:17. | :04:23.
them with my dad. I like it when they score goals. It is quite | :04:24. | :04:27.
interesting and it is fun. Perhaps other football teams | :04:28. | :04:29.
will follow Leicester City's lead by inspiring more girls to be | :04:30. | :04:31.
the football stars of the future. Longleat House in Wiltshire | :04:32. | :04:34.
is 50 years old today. Back then, for the first time ever, | :04:35. | :04:36.
people were invited to drive their own cars among | :04:37. | :04:39.
a pride of lions. The idea of the safari park was then | :04:40. | :04:42.
born and since then millions have come face to face with lions, | :04:43. | :04:45.
tigers and rhinos with only a car Newsround's back with | :04:46. | :04:48.
more from Port Talbot | :04:49. | :04:56. |
