-Good morning, Shelly! -Oh! Morning! | 0:01:39 | 0:01:41
Are you ready for the Tea Festival? | 0:01:41 | 0:01:43
Everything is shipshape and Bristol fashion. | 0:01:43 | 0:01:46
You're going to need a lot of tea to fill this lot. | 0:01:46 | 0:01:49
Indeed we will. And we will be serving teas from around the world. | 0:01:49 | 0:01:52
-Oh, did you hear that, Salty? That's India, China, Sri Lanka... -Whitby. | 0:01:52 | 0:01:57
Whitby? They don't grow tea in Whitby. | 0:01:57 | 0:02:00
No, that's where Miss Bowline-Hitch goes to get it. She'll be back soon. | 0:02:00 | 0:02:03
-We'll look out for her, then. -Come and visit us when we're done. | 0:02:03 | 0:02:06
Yeah, we will. Won't we, Salty? Morning, Sam. | 0:02:06 | 0:02:10
Hello, Jack! Hello, Salty! | 0:02:10 | 0:02:13
You putting the final touches to the... | 0:02:13 | 0:02:15
Tea Festival signs? Yes. They're a beauty. | 0:02:15 | 0:02:18
Morning, everyone. | 0:02:18 | 0:02:20
All right, Ernie? What you got there, then? | 0:02:20 | 0:02:23
Oh! For the Tea Festival. I give you... | 0:02:23 | 0:02:26
-teacakes! Ta-da! -Oh! | 0:02:26 | 0:02:28
Oops. No harm done, eh? | 0:02:29 | 0:02:32
I wouldn't exactly say that Ernie, look at it! | 0:02:32 | 0:02:35
Ooh, er, sorry. Here. Let me get that. | 0:02:35 | 0:02:39
Don't worry, Ernie. I'm wearing painters' overalls. | 0:02:39 | 0:02:43
As you said - no harm done. | 0:02:43 | 0:02:45
BICYCLE BELL RINGS Busy, busy! | 0:02:45 | 0:02:47
Hear that, Salty? That'll be Miss Bowline-Hitch with the tea. | 0:02:47 | 0:02:51
-Morning, Miss Bowline-Hitch! -Box! | 0:02:51 | 0:02:53
-What? -Box! | 0:02:53 | 0:02:55
-She's heading for the box! -Ooh! I'll get it! | 0:02:55 | 0:02:58
-That was almost a disaster! -No harm done though. | 0:03:00 | 0:03:03
Oh! My tea! | 0:03:03 | 0:03:05
Oh, dear! Ernie. | 0:03:05 | 0:03:07
There we go. No harm done, hey? | 0:03:12 | 0:03:17
I wouldn't say that. | 0:03:17 | 0:03:19
Ernie, perhaps you should get going. | 0:03:19 | 0:03:22
Er, perhaps I should. | 0:03:22 | 0:03:23
Yes. Mind the post! | 0:03:23 | 0:03:25
-What? Eyes like a hawk, me! -Oh, Ernie! | 0:03:25 | 0:03:29
CRASH | 0:03:29 | 0:03:30 | |
CRASH | 0:03:32 | 0:03:34 | |
-CLATTERING -Oh! | 0:03:34 | 0:03:36
No harm done? | 0:03:38 | 0:03:39
Come on, sir. Let's get you out of here. Come on! | 0:03:39 | 0:03:42
Come on! Come on! Come on! | 0:03:42 | 0:03:44
Everything is ruined. | 0:03:46 | 0:03:49
Well, not quite what we planned, is it, Ernie? | 0:04:00 | 0:04:03
-I feel terrible, Jack. All I do is cause chaos. -No, nonsense. | 0:04:03 | 0:04:07
Listen, Ernie, just let them catch their breath | 0:04:07 | 0:04:10
and then you can go back and help them clear up. | 0:04:10 | 0:04:13
Right? Come on. | 0:04:13 | 0:04:15
I don't think they want my help. They looked really cross to me. | 0:04:17 | 0:04:21
No, give it a minute. Things will turn out all right. | 0:04:21 | 0:04:24
-Hello, Jack. -Listen, why don't you help Emily? | 0:04:24 | 0:04:29
Oh - yes, please, Ernie. I've got so much to do. | 0:04:29 | 0:04:33
There you are, then. I'll see you later. | 0:04:33 | 0:04:36
-Bye, Jack! -Bye, Emily! | 0:04:36 | 0:04:38
Now, teapot lollies. Juice. What else? | 0:04:38 | 0:04:42
-Oh - yes of course, Ernie. The teacakes! -Oh! | 0:04:42 | 0:04:47
We need a bit of butter. | 0:04:47 | 0:04:49
-Keep an eye on my stall for me. -No problem. | 0:04:49 | 0:04:53
There she is - the Rainbow! | 0:05:00 | 0:05:03
But what have you got for us today, my dear? | 0:05:03 | 0:05:06
HORN BLARES | 0:05:06 | 0:05:08
Come on, Salty. | 0:05:08 | 0:05:10
Here we are. | 0:05:13 | 0:05:14
HE CHUCKLES | 0:05:43 | 0:05:44
Ohh! | 0:05:56 | 0:05:58 | |
Oh-hoo-hoo! | 0:06:05 | 0:06:08
Oh! | 0:06:14 | 0:06:17 | |
Come back! | 0:06:21 | 0:06:23
Oh-hoo-hoo! | 0:06:26 | 0:06:28
Come back with my cart! | 0:06:28 | 0:06:30
Oh, my word! What's happened to the Tea Festival? | 0:06:40 | 0:06:45
-ALL: -Ernie! | 0:06:45 | 0:06:47
Oh! Have you seen my stall? | 0:06:47 | 0:06:50
-ALL: -Ernie! | 0:06:50 | 0:06:52
EMILY GASPS | 0:06:57 | 0:06:58
I'm sorry about that. | 0:06:58 | 0:07:00
Don't upset yourself, it was just a few old teacakes. | 0:07:00 | 0:07:05
Not them. That! | 0:07:05 | 0:07:07
Ernie! Oh, my lovely stall! | 0:07:10 | 0:07:13
And it were all decked out for the Tea Festival too! | 0:07:13 | 0:07:17
There's not going to be a tea festival now. | 0:07:17 | 0:07:20
No teacakes. | 0:07:21 | 0:07:23
And no tea! | 0:07:23 | 0:07:25
I know! And it's all my fault. All of it. | 0:07:25 | 0:07:29
I would help clear things up, but I'd only make it worse. | 0:07:29 | 0:07:34
I always do. | 0:07:34 | 0:07:36
You'd be better off without me. | 0:07:36 | 0:07:38
I'm leaving! | 0:07:40 | 0:07:42
And nothing's going to get in my way. | 0:07:43 | 0:07:46
I wonder how Ernie's getting on. | 0:07:50 | 0:07:52
Oh! He doesn't look too happy. I wonder why? | 0:07:58 | 0:08:02
Eh? | 0:08:02 | 0:08:04 | |
Oh. | 0:08:08 | 0:08:11 | |
Salty, oh. | 0:08:12 | 0:08:15
Goodbye, rope. | 0:08:22 | 0:08:24
Goodbye, workshop. | 0:08:31 | 0:08:32
Goodbye, Staithes. | 0:08:35 | 0:08:36
HE CHUCKLES | 0:08:38 | 0:08:40
Oh, I haven't said goodbye to Jack. | 0:08:42 | 0:08:45
JACK LAUGHS | 0:08:45 | 0:08:47
You know what, Salty? | 0:08:47 | 0:08:49
I think we've got enough tea in there for three tea festivals. | 0:08:49 | 0:08:53
-Jack, Jack? -Oh, Ernie, let yourself in. | 0:08:53 | 0:08:57
Yeah, and don't slam the... | 0:08:59 | 0:09:02
-HATCH SLAMS -..the hatch. | 0:09:02 | 0:09:04
-Jack. -All right, Ernie? Do you want a cup of tea? | 0:09:08 | 0:09:11
-No thanks, I won't be stopping. -Oh? | 0:09:11 | 0:09:14
In fact, I'm leaving Staithes for good. | 0:09:14 | 0:09:17
-You can't mean that, surely. -I mean every word of it. | 0:09:17 | 0:09:21
Goodbye. | 0:09:21 | 0:09:23
-And thanks for everything. -Whoa, whoa, wait a minute, Ernie. | 0:09:23 | 0:09:27
Come on, this is your home. | 0:09:27 | 0:09:29
I know you mean well, Jack, but nothing is going to get in my way. | 0:09:29 | 0:09:33
CLUNK! Oh! | 0:09:33 | 0:09:35
HE GRUNTS | 0:09:35 | 0:09:38
Any idea how to get that hatch open? | 0:09:43 | 0:09:46
-You see, when you slammed it, you jammed it. -Oh, no. | 0:09:46 | 0:09:50
I've broken the hatch as well. I can't seem to do anything right. | 0:09:50 | 0:09:54
We could be stuck here for quite a while. | 0:09:54 | 0:09:57
That's got to be opened from the outside and we are on the inside. | 0:09:57 | 0:10:01
-What? -Yeah. -Well, we need to get some help. | 0:10:01 | 0:10:05
I'll get someone on the speaking tube. | 0:10:05 | 0:10:08
-Hello? Hello? -Hello. -Great. | 0:10:09 | 0:10:13
-That's just great(!) -Come on, Ernie, calm down. | 0:10:13 | 0:10:18
-Get yourself a cup of tea, go on. -A cup of tea? -Yes. -A cup of tea?! | 0:10:18 | 0:10:23
-At a time like this? -Yes, keep your spirits up. -Go on, then. | 0:10:23 | 0:10:28
JACK LAUGHS | 0:10:28 | 0:10:30
He's just like his grandad, Ernie. | 0:10:30 | 0:10:33
We were the best of friends, you know. | 0:10:33 | 0:10:36
Let me tell you about what we used to get up to. | 0:10:36 | 0:10:39
I'll just get comfortable. There we are. | 0:10:39 | 0:10:42
Once upon a twinkly time many, many years ago, I wasn't called | 0:10:44 | 0:10:49
Old Jack, I wasn't called Young Jack, | 0:10:49 | 0:10:51
everyone called me Little Jack. | 0:10:51 | 0:10:55
Do you know, when I was a lad, Staithes was a very different place. | 0:10:55 | 0:10:59
There were no televisions, no computers, no mobile phones. | 0:10:59 | 0:11:03
Every day I would go out and play with Sailor Sue... | 0:11:05 | 0:11:09
-Where's Ernie? -..and Ernie's grandad, Little Ernie. | 0:11:09 | 0:11:13
-Ay-up. -Hello, Ernie. | 0:11:13 | 0:11:15
-Let's go to the beach. -JACK CHUCKLES | 0:11:15 | 0:11:17
It was me and Sue and Little Ernie. | 0:11:17 | 0:11:21
You couldn't keep us apart, we were the best of friends. | 0:11:21 | 0:11:25
Sailor Sue always had lots of ideas for games | 0:11:25 | 0:11:28
and Little Ernie was always in trouble for getting wet | 0:11:28 | 0:11:32
in the rock pools. | 0:11:32 | 0:11:33
He always was a bit clumsy, was Little Ernie. | 0:11:33 | 0:11:37
You know, Little Ernie, he loved going fishing | 0:11:37 | 0:11:40
and then telling us what he'd caught but on this particular day | 0:11:40 | 0:11:44
he was more excited than ever. | 0:11:44 | 0:11:48
Sailor Sue said, "Look, a twinkle!" | 0:11:48 | 0:11:53
Ernie was holding a twinkling silvery chain. | 0:11:53 | 0:11:57
We took a closer look, it was a beautiful locket. | 0:11:57 | 0:12:01
"It must've been washed up on the beach", I said. | 0:12:02 | 0:12:06
"Have you found my locket?" | 0:12:06 | 0:12:08
We all looked at the distant, silvery water and we saw a mermaid. | 0:12:08 | 0:12:14
Yes, Pearl the mermaid. | 0:12:15 | 0:12:18
And she looked exactly the same then as she does now | 0:12:18 | 0:12:22
because mermaids never get any older. | 0:12:22 | 0:12:24
"That locket is a magic locket, it will grant you one wish", | 0:12:26 | 0:12:30
said Pearl. | 0:12:30 | 0:12:32
"Choose wisely and then we can play together for ever." | 0:12:32 | 0:12:37
And, with that, she disappeared under the waves. | 0:12:39 | 0:12:43
Oh, well, we'd never been given a wish before | 0:12:43 | 0:12:47
and Little Ernie's eyes were like saucers as he stared at the locket. | 0:12:47 | 0:12:52
"Oh, I'd like to be a pirate", he announced, | 0:12:52 | 0:12:56
"with a golden castle on my boat and a year's supply of cream buns | 0:12:56 | 0:13:01
"in the hold." | 0:13:01 | 0:13:03
Well, I'd always dreamt of having a boat of my own, so I knew | 0:13:03 | 0:13:07
that that would be my wish and then we both looked at Sailor Sue. | 0:13:07 | 0:13:12
"What would you wish for?" I asked. | 0:13:13 | 0:13:16
Sailor Sue thought for a moment and then she said, "I'd like to be happy | 0:13:17 | 0:13:23
"for ever and ever." | 0:13:23 | 0:13:26
"What sort of a wish is that?" laughed Little Ernie. | 0:13:26 | 0:13:30
"I think my wish is the best. | 0:13:30 | 0:13:32
"See if you can catch the baddest pirate on the seven seas." | 0:13:32 | 0:13:36
And, with that, he dashed off across the beach, up the steps, | 0:13:36 | 0:13:40
-down the street, well... -Catch me if you can! | 0:13:40 | 0:13:43
..we chased after him and eventually we found him down by the harbour, | 0:13:43 | 0:13:48
high up on a wall, right where the fishermen keep their lobster pots. | 0:13:48 | 0:13:53
"I'm the captain of the Jolly Lobster," he shouted. | 0:13:53 | 0:13:58
Well, you know how I told you how clumsy he was? | 0:13:58 | 0:14:01
Well, he was so busy playing pirates and... Crash! | 0:14:01 | 0:14:08
He made all the lobster pots tumble to the ground. Oh, what a mess. | 0:14:08 | 0:14:13
There were lobster pots everywhere. | 0:14:13 | 0:14:15
It was going to take hours to set them all back up again | 0:14:15 | 0:14:18
and to make matters worse, we could see the fisherman coming towards us. | 0:14:18 | 0:14:24
Little Ernie's face went as white as a sail. | 0:14:24 | 0:14:28
"Oh, what are we going to do?" he said. | 0:14:28 | 0:14:32
"I wish these lobster pots would tidy themselves up." | 0:14:32 | 0:14:36
Well, at that, the locket in his hand twinkled a magical twinkle | 0:14:36 | 0:14:43
and Little Ernie's wish came true. | 0:14:43 | 0:14:47
Suddenly all the lobster pots jumped up in the air and piled themselves | 0:14:47 | 0:14:51
up neatly on the harbour-side, just as the fisherman walked by. | 0:14:51 | 0:14:56
He waved to us but we were too shocked to wave back. | 0:14:57 | 0:15:02
"Oh, no, what have I done?" said Little Ernie. | 0:15:02 | 0:15:06
"I always mess things up. | 0:15:06 | 0:15:09
"That was our only wish and now it's gone for ever." | 0:15:09 | 0:15:13
Little Ernie was ever so cross with himself. | 0:15:13 | 0:15:17
He said to us, "You'd be better off without me." | 0:15:17 | 0:15:21
And, with that, he trudged off to the beach | 0:15:21 | 0:15:24
to sit down all by himself. | 0:15:24 | 0:15:27
Well, we were a bit annoyed with Ernie at the time but... | 0:15:27 | 0:15:30
when we'd had a think about it we knew that Ernie hadn't meant | 0:15:30 | 0:15:34
to mess things up, so Sailor Sue and I went over to join him. | 0:15:34 | 0:15:40
"Cheer up", I said and Little Ernie looked at me. | 0:15:40 | 0:15:45
"But now you'll never have a boat", he said sadly. | 0:15:45 | 0:15:49
I said to him, | 0:15:49 | 0:15:51
"Ernie, thanks to you fishing out that locket, | 0:15:51 | 0:15:55
"we have met a mermaid." And Little Ernie looked at us and said, | 0:15:55 | 0:16:02
"So, do you forgive me?" "Of course we do", I laughed, "that's what | 0:16:02 | 0:16:09
"friends do and we're the best of friends, aren't we?" | 0:16:09 | 0:16:12
Of course we were. | 0:16:12 | 0:16:14
So then Little Ernie jumped up and said, | 0:16:15 | 0:16:18
"In that case, I'm still the baddest pirate on the seven seas | 0:16:18 | 0:16:22
"and you still have to catch me." And, with that, we dashed off | 0:16:22 | 0:16:27
across the beach laughing and tumbling the way we always did. | 0:16:27 | 0:16:32
Then, do you know what? | 0:16:32 | 0:16:35
When I was old enough, I did have a boat of my own, my lovely Rainbow. | 0:16:35 | 0:16:41
And every day Sailor Sue and I would set out to sea to have fun | 0:16:41 | 0:16:46
and adventures with our beautiful new mermaid friend, Pearl. | 0:16:46 | 0:16:53
-Oh, got yourself some tea, then? -Yeah. Can I get you a fresh cup? | 0:16:55 | 0:17:00
Oh, I thought you'd never ask. | 0:17:00 | 0:17:03
-What's that, Jack? -What? You've seen that before, haven't you? | 0:17:04 | 0:17:10
Well, when Sailor Sue and I got married, | 0:17:10 | 0:17:13
your grandad put a picture of my Sue inside it. He was very kind. | 0:17:13 | 0:17:18
A bit like you, actually, Ernie. | 0:17:18 | 0:17:21
You know, I'm sure you didn't mean to spoil that tea festival | 0:17:21 | 0:17:26
and I'm quite sure your friends will forgive you. | 0:17:26 | 0:17:29
I don't think so. They probably don't even realise I've gone. | 0:17:29 | 0:17:34
Well, I've been busy-busy but no-one in the village has any more tea. | 0:17:35 | 0:17:41
-It's a disaster. -I've made some more teacakes. | 0:17:41 | 0:17:45
But we're still out of tea. | 0:17:45 | 0:17:46
We can't have a tea festival without any tea. | 0:17:46 | 0:17:49
There must be something we can do. | 0:17:49 | 0:17:51
I need someone with a van to go back to Whitby and stock up on supplies. | 0:17:51 | 0:17:57
-The only one with a van is Ernie. -And where is he? | 0:17:57 | 0:18:01
That's what I'd like to know. | 0:18:01 | 0:18:03
-Oh, to get this onto the harbour front we need... -A miracle? | 0:18:06 | 0:18:11
-No, we need... -A large crane with a motorised-pulley system? | 0:18:11 | 0:18:16
-Ernie. We need Ernie. -He's usually the first to lend a hand. | 0:18:16 | 0:18:22
-I know. -Where is he? | 0:18:22 | 0:18:24
-How's that tea coming along, Ernie? -CLANK! | 0:18:27 | 0:18:30
Almost there, Jack. Hey, you've got a right pile of the stuff back here. | 0:18:30 | 0:18:35
Well, you seem to have cheered up a bit. | 0:18:35 | 0:18:38
Well, I like to keep myself busy. I've always got a job on the go, me. | 0:18:38 | 0:18:42
I'm sure your friends have got plenty of jobs for you right now. | 0:18:42 | 0:18:46
Oh, they don't need someone like me around. No, I've made up my mind. | 0:18:46 | 0:18:50
As soon as I've figured out how to open that hatch, I'm off. | 0:18:50 | 0:18:54
-Aren't you forgetting something? -What? -My cup of tea. -I'm on it. | 0:18:54 | 0:18:58
-Yes, and I'll have a bit of toast, as well, yeah? -Right. | 0:18:58 | 0:19:02
-Thank you, and a biscuit for Salty. -OK. -Yes, and get one for yourself. | 0:19:02 | 0:19:07
She won't mind. | 0:19:07 | 0:19:08
Oh, poor Ernie. | 0:19:10 | 0:19:11
He thinks he's stuck in here for good, doesn't he, Salty? | 0:19:11 | 0:19:16
Just like Bluey did when we went to Coconut Island. | 0:19:16 | 0:19:20
Once upon a twinkly time, the Rainbow set sail from Staithes, | 0:19:20 | 0:19:26
waved goodbye to Whitby and disappeared over the horizon. | 0:19:26 | 0:19:31
Salty and I were off on a day trip to Coconut Island | 0:19:31 | 0:19:35
and we were feeling very happy about it, so we sang a little song. | 0:19:35 | 0:19:41
# Just Salty Dog and me | 0:19:41 | 0:19:43
# Upon the briny sea | 0:19:43 | 0:19:46
# We want to eat coconuts in the sun | 0:19:46 | 0:19:48
# So, Coconut Island, here we come | 0:19:48 | 0:19:51
# It's rainy in Staithes so we're off on the waves | 0:19:51 | 0:19:55
# Just Salty Dog and me. # | 0:19:55 | 0:19:58
JACK LAUGHS | 0:19:58 | 0:19:59
Well, the sun came out to meet us as we set our course. | 0:19:59 | 0:20:03
Oh, it was wonderful to feel the cool sea spray in our whiskers | 0:20:03 | 0:20:08
and to watch the flying fish make their rainbow arcs off the bow. | 0:20:08 | 0:20:13
Salty, my girl, there is nothing quite like the smell of the sea. | 0:20:13 | 0:20:17
HE SNIFFS | 0:20:19 | 0:20:21
It smells...of adventure. | 0:20:21 | 0:20:24
We sailed along happily for a while, bobbity-bobbity. | 0:20:24 | 0:20:29
And after some time, our good friend Brenda the stork passed by. | 0:20:29 | 0:20:33
"Urgent delivery," she called from high up in the sky, | 0:20:33 | 0:20:37
"I'm afraid I can't stop but it looks to me | 0:20:37 | 0:20:40
"like you may be sinking." | 0:20:40 | 0:20:43
"Sinking?" I said, peering overboard. | 0:20:43 | 0:20:46
And, oh, deary-dear, it was true. | 0:20:46 | 0:20:49
The waves were far too close to the deck of the boat. | 0:20:49 | 0:20:53
Well, Salty scampered off at top speed to check | 0:20:53 | 0:20:57
the Rainbow for holes. | 0:20:57 | 0:20:59
She scooted around, she was sniffling and snuffling | 0:20:59 | 0:21:03
but there were no holes to be found. "Well, Salty," I said, | 0:21:03 | 0:21:06
"we'd better return to the harbour a bit sharpish. We'll have to visit | 0:21:06 | 0:21:11
"Coconut Island another day." | 0:21:11 | 0:21:13
Well, poor Salty, she was ever so disappointed. | 0:21:13 | 0:21:18
"Prepare to bring her about," I called. | 0:21:18 | 0:21:22
And we were just going to turn the Rainbow around when | 0:21:22 | 0:21:25
Mr and Mrs Cod appeared with the little Cod twins just behind. | 0:21:25 | 0:21:30
"Er, Salty, er, Jack, you seem to be sinking," Mrs Cod called out, | 0:21:30 | 0:21:35
"and we know why, don't we, Harold?" "Yes, dear," said Mr Cod. | 0:21:35 | 0:21:40
But before Mr Cod could explain, one of the Cod twins interrupted. | 0:21:40 | 0:21:45
"There's something wrong with the Rainbow's bottom," | 0:21:45 | 0:21:48
she said and she burst into fits of giggles. | 0:21:48 | 0:21:51
"It's true," said Mrs Cod seriously, | 0:21:51 | 0:21:54
"you've got stowaways, Jack and Salty, lots of them." | 0:21:54 | 0:21:59
Now, in case you don't know what a stowaway is, I'll tell you. | 0:21:59 | 0:22:04
A stowaway is someone who is sneakedy-sneaking a cheeky | 0:22:04 | 0:22:08
ride on board your ship without asking. | 0:22:08 | 0:22:12
"Stowaways?" I said flabbergasted, "Where?" | 0:22:13 | 0:22:17
"Come with us under the waves and we'll show you," said Mrs Cod. | 0:22:17 | 0:22:21
"Right you are," I replied and before you could say | 0:22:21 | 0:22:25
"slippery sand eels" we were all under the waves. Deep down we went. | 0:22:25 | 0:22:30
Mr and Mrs Cod led the way and what a sight we saw, for there | 0:22:30 | 0:22:36
on the bottom of our beloved boat, were billions of bumpy barnacles. | 0:22:36 | 0:22:42
"Oh, no wonder the Rainbow's sinking," | 0:22:43 | 0:22:45
I groaned, "it's got a barnacley bottom." | 0:22:45 | 0:22:49
"Hello," chimed the barnacles happily, | 0:22:49 | 0:22:51
"we are going on an adventure to Coconut Island, | 0:22:51 | 0:22:54
"it's br-br-brilliant," said one, "I'm so excited," said another. | 0:22:54 | 0:23:00
"We never go anywhere." "Well, I'm sorry to disappoint you," | 0:23:00 | 0:23:04
I said, "but you can't stay on the bottom of our boat. | 0:23:04 | 0:23:08
"There are far too many of you and you're making it sink." You see, | 0:23:08 | 0:23:14
one bumpy barnacle is light enough but billions of bumpy barnacles | 0:23:14 | 0:23:19
together are really rather heavy. | 0:23:19 | 0:23:21
I'm afraid you are going to have to get off. Right, Salty? | 0:23:21 | 0:23:27
"We want to get off, we really do," chimed the others, | 0:23:27 | 0:23:31
"but we need something really huge to stick to." | 0:23:31 | 0:23:35
Well, just then a huge shadow came looming towards us. | 0:23:37 | 0:23:43
It was Bluey the blue whale. | 0:23:43 | 0:23:46
"Hello, everyone," he boomed, "what are you up to?" | 0:23:46 | 0:23:51
"We are having a bit of bother, Bluey," I said. | 0:23:51 | 0:23:54
"You see, we're on our way to Coconut Island but these barnacles | 0:23:54 | 0:23:58
"are stuck to the bottom of the Rainbow | 0:23:58 | 0:24:01
"and they're making us sink. | 0:24:01 | 0:24:03
"They need something really huge to stick to." | 0:24:03 | 0:24:07
"I'm huge," said Bluey, | 0:24:07 | 0:24:10
"you can stick to me if you like," he told the barnacles kindly. | 0:24:10 | 0:24:14
"And I will take you to see Coconut Island." | 0:24:14 | 0:24:19
"Hurray," chimed the barnacles, "that sounds like fun. | 0:24:19 | 0:24:23
"We don't want to stick to a sinking ship." So... | 0:24:23 | 0:24:27
HE MAKES A POPPING SOUND | 0:24:27 | 0:24:30
The barnacles magically unstuck themselves from the bottom | 0:24:30 | 0:24:35
of the Rainbow and they stuck themselves | 0:24:35 | 0:24:37
all around Bluey's big blue head. | 0:24:37 | 0:24:41
He looked like he had a very bumpy hairdo. | 0:24:41 | 0:24:46
And because Bluey is such an enormous creature | 0:24:46 | 0:24:50
and so strong too, the billions of bumpy barnacles | 0:24:50 | 0:24:54
didn't make him sink. | 0:24:54 | 0:24:56
"Ha-ha! | 0:24:56 | 0:24:57
"Coconut Island, here we come," I called, "Meet you at the cove. | 0:24:57 | 0:25:03
"Good old Bluey." | 0:25:03 | 0:25:05
-And we all set off. -BOAT WHISTLE BLOWS | 0:25:05 | 0:25:08
Now, the entrance to the cove on Coconut Island was rather | 0:25:11 | 0:25:15
narrow and Bluey the whale was rather wide, especially with | 0:25:15 | 0:25:19
all those barnacles on his head and, as he swam in, he got stuck. | 0:25:19 | 0:25:26
"Uh-oh," he bellowed, trying to wriggle his way through, | 0:25:26 | 0:25:30
"I'm stuck, I can't move." | 0:25:30 | 0:25:34
Tell the barnacles to unstick themselves | 0:25:34 | 0:25:36
and move to the rocks and then you'll fit through," | 0:25:36 | 0:25:40
I called to Bluey. But the barnacles, they wouldn't budge. | 0:25:40 | 0:25:44
They were stuck too. | 0:25:44 | 0:25:45
"We're in a sticky fix," | 0:25:46 | 0:25:48
they cried, "we can't unstick, we've tried and tried." | 0:25:48 | 0:25:52
"Help!" cried Bluey, "I'm in trouble." | 0:25:52 | 0:25:56
All Bluey's friends heard him calling and they appeared | 0:25:56 | 0:25:59
from under the waves, across the land and over the rainbow. | 0:25:59 | 0:26:03
George the sawfish got to Bluey first. | 0:26:03 | 0:26:06
"I'll try to cut through the rocks," he said. | 0:26:06 | 0:26:10
And, oh, dear, rocks are very hard and he blunted his saw. | 0:26:10 | 0:26:15
"Ouch!" And then Charlie the squid wrapped his tentacles | 0:26:15 | 0:26:20
around Bluey's head and tried his best to pull him out. | 0:26:20 | 0:26:24
But Bluey, he wouldn't budge. | 0:26:24 | 0:26:27
"Let me try," cried Fred, Charlie's brother, | 0:26:27 | 0:26:30
wrapping his tentacles around Bluey's tail. | 0:26:30 | 0:26:33
"Perhaps I could push him through." But Bluey still wouldn't budge. | 0:26:33 | 0:26:39
You have never seen so much pulling and pushing | 0:26:40 | 0:26:44
and sawing and flapping. | 0:26:44 | 0:26:46
"Emergency, emergency!" | 0:26:46 | 0:26:48
Called Thelma the dragon, urgently beating her leathery wings. | 0:26:48 | 0:26:53
"Bluey's not moving, what are we going to do?" | 0:26:53 | 0:26:57
No-one really knew how to help, it was chaos. | 0:26:57 | 0:27:01
And then suddenly, Salty's whiskers whiffled. | 0:27:03 | 0:27:07
She was having one of her bright ideas. | 0:27:07 | 0:27:10
She scampered around the deck and fetched all the ropes. | 0:27:10 | 0:27:14
"All right, everyone," | 0:27:14 | 0:27:15
I cried, "Salty wants us all to pull together. Let's see what we can do." | 0:27:15 | 0:27:21
Urgently I started tying all the ropes together, | 0:27:21 | 0:27:25
then Thelma the dragon picked up one end of the rope to pass it to | 0:27:25 | 0:27:30
Donny the dolphin who dived under the sea | 0:27:30 | 0:27:33
and hooked it onto Bluey's tail. | 0:27:33 | 0:27:35
"Now, everybody grab on to the rope and we'll pull together," I called. | 0:27:35 | 0:27:41
And before you knew it, everybody was pulling at the rope. | 0:27:41 | 0:27:46
Heave-ho! And don't let go. | 0:27:46 | 0:27:50
Heave! Heave! | 0:27:50 | 0:27:52
And the rope made a sort of a creaking sound. | 0:27:53 | 0:27:58
HE MAKES A CREAKING SOUND | 0:27:58 | 0:28:00
And little beads of sweat trickled down our faces. | 0:28:00 | 0:28:05
Heave! "I think I'm moving," cried Bluey. | 0:28:05 | 0:28:11
It was true. | 0:28:11 | 0:28:13
Slowly, slowly, Bluey was starting to move towards us. | 0:28:13 | 0:28:19
We need one final heave. Ready? Heave! | 0:28:19 | 0:28:23
And as we pulled him out, the barnacles, | 0:28:23 | 0:28:26
they came unstuck from Bluey's head | 0:28:26 | 0:28:28
and they somersaulted through the air and landed on the rocks. | 0:28:28 | 0:28:33
"Hurray," they cried, "we've come unstuck, now Bluey's free. | 0:28:33 | 0:28:38
"Ha-ha!" Oh, it was true! | 0:28:38 | 0:28:42
Bluey was swimming happily in the cove and it wasn't long | 0:28:43 | 0:28:48
before he was spraying us with a huge fountain from his blowhole. | 0:28:48 | 0:28:54
"Thank you, everybody," he boomed, "you were there when I needed you. | 0:28:54 | 0:29:00
"Thank you for pulling together." "That's what friends do," | 0:29:00 | 0:29:04
I said with a smile that was almost as big as a blue whale. | 0:29:04 | 0:29:08
What an adventure we had that day on Coconut Island. | 0:29:09 | 0:29:14
And the barnacles liked it too. They found a perfect home on the rocks. | 0:29:14 | 0:29:19
"We are happy here, it's lovely weather, we're not leaving, | 0:29:19 | 0:29:24
"never ever," they chimed. And do you know what? | 0:29:24 | 0:29:29
They are still there to this day. | 0:29:29 | 0:29:31
-Ah! Ha-ha, here we go. -Oh, thank you. Oh, yes, go on. | 0:29:34 | 0:29:40
I'm going to miss your tea and toast when you're gone, Ernie. | 0:29:41 | 0:29:46
Don't you go trying to change my mind, Jack. | 0:29:46 | 0:29:48
And then there's all your friends, | 0:29:48 | 0:29:50
they're going to miss the way that you get everybody to pull together. | 0:29:50 | 0:29:55
Yeah. Who's going to get everybody together to pull Emily's stall | 0:29:55 | 0:29:59
off the beach when I leave? | 0:29:59 | 0:30:01
Hang about, who IS going to pull Emily's stall off the beach? | 0:30:02 | 0:30:06
-And who's going to get the rope? -What do you mean? | 0:30:06 | 0:30:09
It's in your workshop. | 0:30:09 | 0:30:12
-And I've got the key here. -Yeah. | 0:30:12 | 0:30:16
I might have messed up but it's up to me to sort everybody out. | 0:30:16 | 0:30:19
-That's right. -I'm going to go back there right now | 0:30:19 | 0:30:23
and nothing's going to get in my way. | 0:30:23 | 0:30:25
-Right, don't forget the hatch. -Ah. | 0:30:25 | 0:30:29
But I've got to get back to the beach. | 0:30:29 | 0:30:31
In which case, there is another way to get out. Now... | 0:30:33 | 0:30:38
HE WHISTLES | 0:30:38 | 0:30:40
Have you seen the size of me? I'll never get through that. | 0:30:40 | 0:30:43
No, no, you wouldn't, would you? | 0:30:43 | 0:30:46
But we know somebody who would, don't we, hm? | 0:30:47 | 0:30:51
Good girl. | 0:30:56 | 0:30:58
Fly like the wind, Salty. | 0:31:03 | 0:31:05
Hello, Salty. Hello, hello. Oh! | 0:31:13 | 0:31:16
Oh! | 0:31:23 | 0:31:26 | |
SALTY BARKS | 0:31:28 | 0:31:30
BICYCLE BELL RINGS | 0:31:37 | 0:31:39
-Salty must've got lost. -What are you talking about? | 0:31:44 | 0:31:48
She's the best dog in the world. | 0:31:48 | 0:31:50
SALTY BARKS | 0:31:50 | 0:31:53
KNOCKING They're here! | 0:31:53 | 0:31:55
-What did I tell you? Clever Salty. -Jack? -Ahoy there, Sam. | 0:31:58 | 0:32:04
Can you get the hatch open? It's jammed. | 0:32:04 | 0:32:07
It's a job for Ernie. But, Jack, Ernie's vanished. | 0:32:11 | 0:32:16
No, I haven't, I'm here. ALL: Ernie! | 0:32:16 | 0:32:21
So that's where he's been hiding. | 0:32:21 | 0:32:23
Busy-busy, give it a push. Before the tide comes in - pull. | 0:32:23 | 0:32:28
-What do we do, Ernie? -Just give it a pull. | 0:32:28 | 0:32:33
-Oh, and don't forget - pull together. -That's the way, Ernie. | 0:32:33 | 0:32:38
-On my count, one, two... -Three. -Three! | 0:32:38 | 0:32:42
ALL: Three! | 0:32:42 | 0:32:44
THEY LAUGH | 0:32:47 | 0:32:49
-Hello, Ernie. -Hello, everybody. | 0:32:51 | 0:32:54
Ernie, I'd thought you'd left us. | 0:32:54 | 0:32:57
Me? Leave Staithes? Never. | 0:32:57 | 0:32:59
Thank goodness for that because we need you. | 0:32:59 | 0:33:03
Ernie, love, before the tide comes in, can you help me | 0:33:03 | 0:33:07
