We're currently hiding out in a school library

near Peterborough to surprise an 11-year-old girl called Lola.

We are bringing the news that she's going to be getting

her dream Hollywood cinema den.

This one is going to be so cool!

Today's Dengineer is movie mad Lola, who wants to be able

to hang out more with her mum and watch films.

I'd really like the den because my mum is in a wheelchair,

so she can't get up to my room.

-Lola!

-Yes?

So this den would mean a lot, because we'd have that special place

to spend time together.

Lola really deserves the den because she's always really helping

her mum and she always has to help get the shopping out the car,

put the wheelchair in the boot.

It's just lovely watching her because she loves

being with her mum and loves doing things with her mum.

It would be nice for Lola to know she has a den that's her place,

and it's hers and her mum's to go spend time together.

-BOTH:

-That one!

-Yeah.

Please help, Dengineers.

I really, really, really need a den.

Lola is on a visit to her new secondary school.

She thinks she's about to be filmed for a documentary

on starting school, but really it's the Dengineers crew.

We're all ready for the big surprise.

Her class is arriving...

..and Lola has no idea we're waiting just metres away.

Lola's class have just gone into the library

and they think they're going to be watching a film

about secondary school.

Now, obviously, starting secondary school is a massive deal,

so it is the perfect cover-up.

I can't wait to see her face when we pop up on the screen.

And we're here to tell you, yes, you Lola...

that you're going to be building your very own

dream Hollywood cinema den.

I was speechless when they walked in.

I was just really happy for Lola cos...

Yeah, she's been wanting a den so much.

When Mark and Lauren walked in, it was amazing.

I never really expected it to happen.

It's straight down to business as we head to the Dengineers'

mobile HQ, packed with the cutting-edge technology that will

bring Lola's Hollywood cinema den to life.

So, Lola, welcome to the Dengineer's mobile HQ.

This is where we're going to put together all of your amazing ideas

for your Hollywood cinema den.

Remember, it's your den,

-so your ideas count.

-You ready?

Why is lighting important to you?

Cos it just gives the effect on the stage.

You need to a ticket to go to the cinema,

-so maybe we need tickets to get into your cinema.

-Yeah.

What else are you looking for?

Um...

This one. It's like when the curtains are shut,

the screen's behind it, she can make movies and then they're open,

it's like the screen where we can watch the movies.

-Wow.

-Oh, I like that a lot.

-So you're going to be making movies?

-Yeah.

I think you need a director's chair. Would you ever like to direct,

or do you just like to be in the movie?

-Both of them.

-Awesome.

-Look at that.

How are we going to actually play the movies in your den?

-Projector?

-Why the projector?

-Cos it can make it big.

Make it like a proper cinema. This is really Hollywood, isn't it?

-I think, like, proper cinema seats.

-Nice.

-Oh, they're cool.

-A popcorn machine.

-Perfect!

You cannot go to the cinema without a bit of popcorn.

-Sweet.

-Are you happy with your ideas?

Cos this is not going to be easy.

Lola's mood board is inspired by the glamour of Hollywood.

She wants her cinema den to have a retro feel to it

and to be able to watch movies on a big screen.

Lola wants traditional cinema seating and somewhere

to make her favourite snack - popcorn.

But which of the Dengineers designers

will be building Lola's den?

It's Maral.

Maral is one seriously cool architect,

who designs multimillion pound buildings

for a huge range of clients.

If anyone can bring a touch of Hollywood glamour

to Lola's cinema den, it's Maral.

When I was researching, I found out that you have a beautiful house,

but we've had to ask permission from the council

that what I'm designing is suitable for this area.

Maral had to submit detailed plans and has been granted

planning permission for Lola's den.

So, based on your mood board, you want a retro cinema den,

somewhere that you and your mum can spend more time together,

and watch some of the movies that you really like.

-Yeah.

-So these are some of my ideas.

This is the front. You have a nice retro cinema sign

-on top of your den.

-Yeah.

-What about the popcorn door?

-LOLA GIGGLES

-Yeah?

Also, one of the most important thing, I think,

is for your mum to be able to get into your den.

-So she does need a ramp, doesn't she?

-Yeah.

Yeah, so that's something that I definitely have put in.

Is there anything else you want to share with me?

Yeah, I'd like some sort of lighting on my den.

How about some lighting around the sign?

-Like, if it says, "Lola's Cinema", with lots of light around.

-Yeah.

-Would that look good?

-That would look good.

-Am I good to go?

-Yeah.

-Great.

Inspired by Lola's ideas, Maral plans to create

a retro Hollywood cinema den, featuring popcorn doors

and a box office. Lola's names will go up in lights

with her very own cinema sign.

Inside, there's a seat for Lola and a space for her mum's wheelchair.

And no cinema would be complete without a popcorn machine.

It's lights, camera, action,

as the Dengineers have just four days to build

Lola's cinema den.

And because Maral has got planning permission,

they'll have to stick exactly to her plans.

This means no last-minute changes.

Good luck with that, guys.

In true film star style, Lola's gone for a new look for the build,

and everyone gets stuck in to get things started.

When the Dengineers arrived, there was loads of vans and cars.

It was sort of a bit, like, chaotic,

cos loads of people were just coming into the garden.

Which means it's time to say bye-bye to Lola's family,

who won't be able to see the den until the big reveal

in a few days' time.

Guys, take a look behind you because that is the last time

that you are going to see the den.

I think Maral and Lola together are going to create something

really special. They're both really creative,

so, together they're going to be an unbeatable team.

Maral, it looks amazing here!

-Hi, guys.

-Hey. Tell us, need I ask, why you've picked this space.

-It's awesome.

-Well, as you can see, this area of the garden

is surrounded by very tall trees.

So before we even began, it already feels like a den.

-It's a big den, isn't it?

-It is going to be one of the

largest dens that the Dengineers have embarked on.

As you can already see, the outline and the footprint of the den.

-You can see it's pretty big, isn't it?

-Yeah.

Guys, there's a lot of work to be done today.

-Have you had your porridge?

-Yeah! Bananas.

-Bananas.

Bananas, good source of potassium and energy.

I've got to have mine yet, so I'm a bit sluggish.

Right, let's get him a banana, stat!

'While the Dengineers start on the main structure of the den,

'I get hands on with a very special power tool.'

So here on The Dengineers, we tend to use, you know,

top-notch equipment. We use a miter saw, we use an impact drill,

we also use...

..a bread knife.

'Turns out it's the perfect thing for cutting foam,

'which will form a fabric wall in Lola's den.'

Oh, my goodness!

This is the most satisfying thing I've ever done.

It's just like slicing bread.

Yes!

-Well done, Lauren.

-Just like bread. I'm so proud of myself.

'I leave Maral and Lola to carry on with the panels,

'while I go and find Mum and Dad for a chat and a cup of tea.'

Tell me about Lola's love of cinema and film and movies.

It's something fun and girlie that we can do together.

She absolutely adores going and seeing something new,

the excitement of seeing the film.

Watching them over and over and over...

-Yes.

-..again.

-What kind of films does she like?

Oh, she loves a sing-song. Mamma Mia's one of her favourites.

Pitch Perfect, another one.

So, obviously, having the den, then, would be the perfect place,

on a ground-floor, where you guys can hang out together?

Yeah, definitely somewhere for us to cuddle up together,

-watch movies and have a fun time together.

-Yeah.

Because you became a wheelchair user - was it four years ago?

-Yes.

-How did that affect things, like normal life, for you?

I think at the start, it was a big, sort of, shock.

We try not to let it change our lives.

We do as much now as we did before, but it is quite hard work.

So whenever I've got Lola with me, she's a godsend, really.

-She helps me out.

-She always wants to help you out as well,

-doesn't she?

-Definitely.

-She always wants to jump in

and help her mum and...

-Yeah, spend loads of time with you.

-Make things easy.

The pressure is on to deliver an amazing space

for Lola and her mum to spend time together.

So the Dengineers are moving at lightning speed

to get the main structure up before the end of the day.

With the build well under way, Maral turns her attention

to a secret idea for the outside of the den.

'This means that Lola and I get to act like film stars

'in our very own photoshoot.

'Get in!'

Doing the photoshoot with Lauren was fun and funny

cos she's really good at doing facial expressions.

I mean, I don't know if you've seen an alien,

but that's definitely how they move.

Go! Yeah!

So I reckon I should get these to a man who's going to transform them

into something brilliant which you don't know about yet,

so I'm going to grab them and see you later, all right?

It's day two of the build and the Dengineers are up early

and already hard at work.

We have quite a lot of tasks that we need to get on with today.

We have to paint the den inside and out,

we have to make sure all the electrical work is done,

we have tons to do, so everybody needs to chip in.

With things progressing so quickly, it's time for a site inspection.

-What do you think so far?

-It's cool.

-Yeah?

-Now it's got the wall at the back and it's all, like, red.

Anything you see that you think, "Uh-oh, I don't like,"

or you want me to consider changing or adapting?

-No.

-No? That's good!

There's loads to do and Lola gets stuck in painting the popcorn doors.

Done a great job. I'll take it from there.

Maral needs to get some top-secret elements of the design installed,

so I'm whisking Lola off for a special treat.

We're visiting a company where famous movie stars go

to have their special effects costumes created using 3D models.

-Alex, nice to see you. This is Lola.

-Very nice to meet you.

So, Alex, tell Lola what exactly we've got going on here.

These are some of the props that we make,

-so this is Captain Blackbeard's armour.

-Wow. Hugh Jackman?

Yes, we milled him out, very similar to Jack here,

as a mannequin,

then this was sculpted over the top of his body in clay.

So that's where we get digital and traditional model-making skills

joining together.

You make a model and then you just keep fitting it to that model,

-so the actor doesn't have to keep coming back?

-That's exactly right.

To do that, a 3D scan needs to be made of the actors

and we go off to see how it's done.

Let's go.

Lola is going to experience just what it's like to be 3D scanned.

120 cameras will take a photo of her from every angle.

The information goes into a computer

and she'll be created digitally in 3D.

-Right, let's do it.

-Right, can you turn off the light, Mark?

The rig is going to fire and when it does,

it'll be the flashes that capture that moment in time

-Three...two...one...

-CAMERA SHUTTERS CLICK

-There we go.

-So it just flashed once

and you've just taken every measurement from Lola that you need,

pinpoint to the point that it could be on the big screen at the cinema?

Exactly.

It's time to reveal what Lola really looks like in 3D.

You know what, I think these images

are too good to just leave on the computer.

I think we need to make something of it.

What about we get your 3D image printed off

and we make a mini statue, something like that, for your den?

It'll be you.

Wow!

To make this den work,

Lola and her mum need to be able to watch films,

so getting the technology right is vital, starting with the projector.

So the projector is actually going to be

one of the most important elements of Lola's den.

So we're not doing this on a TV screen -

we are going with a classic actual cinema projector?

Classic projector, that's correct.

Maral demonstrates how Lola's projector will work

using one she's made with a shoebox.

So you have a beam of light

that goes through an image, carries on through the magnifying glass

onto a big, blank wall so you see a massive cinema picture?

That is correct, but how big that image is going to be

will be determined by the projector.

Well, I think we should give it a go and see if it works, shall we?

-Let's do it.

-Let's do it. Lights, please!

A-ha, I've got the magic.

-Let's press play.

-LAUREN GASPS

-There you go.

-Amazing.

So here's a little video from Lola earlier.

-So if I bring it closer, it goes out of focus.

-Yes.

As it goes further back, the image gets larger and more sharp.

That is absolutely brilliant.

Maral has chosen a liquid crystal display projector for the den,

which uses light and a lens

to project a digital image onto a screen.

The position of the projector and the lens will affect the size

and sharpness of the image she sees.

So if you don't mind bringing it lower.

At the same height as the hatch over there.

Now that the projector is in position,

the team can get to work on yet another coat of paint.

There is a lot to paint, a lot more than I thought.

You know, the pressure is on.

There's still loads to be done, as all the fittings for inside the den

are yet to be installed.

And there's the cinema sign to make.

We've got a bit of a problem because we can't find the piece of acrylic

we need for the big retro sign that is going on top of the den.

I need to try and source another one, because we just can't find it.

Uh, about two metres...

Maral hits the phone to try and source a replacement.

It is quite important.

If she can't find a new piece of acrylic,

Maral won't be able to create the centrepiece of Lola's den,

her cinema sign.

I don't think she'll be getting much sleep tonight.

It's day three of the build and time is ticking.

The missing acrylic has delayed progress.

I've had to find a piece of acrylic for the sign.

Luckily, this morning we've managed to source one,

but David has got an awful lot to do to complete the sign today.

Dengineer David gets to work on Lola's cinema sign

and it's all hands on deck

to try and get things back on track.

From now on, Lola won't be able to see her den

until the big reveal tomorrow, but there's still plenty for her to do.

We are going to do a bit of upcycle.

Can you take a guess what it could be?

-A stage?

-Good answer, yes.

Maral is using tongue and groove boards,

which lock together to make the floor of the stage.

You want to stand on it and see how robust it is?

-That's good.

-Yeah? It's a good stage, isn't it?

-Yeah.

Each of these pallets will have a star...

right in the middle.

-Do you like making things?

-Yeah.

In my bedroom I have loads of arts and craft things

and I enjoy making things with it.

It's really sticky and you have to put lots of pressure into it.

-Hard work, isn't it?

-Yeah.

-Shall we swap over?

Sounds like a job for the Dengineers!

With painting, varnishing, building and fitting still left to do,

the Dengineers will need to make a superhuman effort

to get everything done in time.

I don't want Lola to go,

"Wow, my den! Oh, it's spelled wrong!"

So far, so good, though.

-There?

-I'm happy there.

Well, we're not finished yet.

It is the end, but we still have a few more things to finish off.

Some of the paints still need a second coat.

After the second coats are dry,

it needs varnishing.

The ramp needs a final coat before we go,

so it can dry overnight.

We've still got the chair to fix, yeah,

so there are still a few things to do.

Guys, come on! You're superheroes!

You can do this.

Everything has to be done, there is no doubt about it.

So even if it takes us till 12 midnight,

we will be here to finish it.

That's more like it.

The lights go down on a very busy day for the Dengineers and tomorrow

is the eagerly awaited premiere of Lola's Hollywood cinema den.

In just four days, one team transformed her garden

and brought her Hollywood cinema dreams to life.

-And it looks massive.

-It needs to have the wow factor.

It's the reveal day and we do have a few little things left to do.

It's all hands on deck to get ready for the reveal.

As the final finishing touches go into place,

how are Lola and her family feeling about seeing the finished den

for the first time?

I can't imagine what it's going to look like

and I'm just so excited to see my den.

I can't contain my excitement!

I know, it's sort of a bit nervous and can't really wait to see it,

it's going to be fantastic.

It's going to be brilliant, we can't wait.

Lola wanted a cinema den with all the glamour of Hollywood

and that's just what Maral and the Dengineers have delivered.

Where once there was just an empty space,

she now has a retro movie theatre complete with big screen,

cinema chair and space for her mum's wheelchair.

The photoshoot photos have been transformed

into classic film posters

and she can make her favourite snack with an awesome popcorn machine.

Lola, family and friends, are you ready to see the den?

Is it how you thought it would be?

I didn't expect it to be this good and have all the features

and everything I wanted it to be.

It's amazing.

Her reaction was just priceless.

She looked like she really was pleased with the den

and that just made me very happy to actually see that reaction,

knowing that she's really happy with what she's got.

I feel like I've really designed my den,

cos all the features that I wanted are all in there.
