-What's it like to see this CD?

-It feels strange but we are proud

-that we have launched our first CD.

-I've been listening to it.

-Why did you establish the choir

-back in 2002?

-Cor Llanddarog started out

-as a ladies choir.

-We were formed to compete

-in the Cerdd Dant Festival.

-We needed a few males to be a mixed

-choir and sing a varied repertoire.

-You've also had a lot of success in

-the last 14 years at the Eisteddfod.

-We've been fortunate to win five

-times and it's been great competing.

-You get to prepare

-and reach certain standards.

-The composer, Eric Jones

-has written for the album.

-It's an honour for us,

-and our relationship with Eric...

-..stems back many years

-and we have used his works...

-..and have commissioned him.

-It was great to release

-a CD of his work.

-of writing for this CD?

-I have written a lot of music

-for Cor Llanddarog over the years.

-Some of the songs go back

-before the choir was established.

-It's a mixture of old music

-and some brand-new stuff too.

-There is a new carol on the CD.

-The words are by W Rhys Nicholas,

-Fe Gawn Ddawnsio.

-It has never been heard before.

-How does it feel to listen

-to your music being sung?

-It's great for the composer.

-The conductor and choir

-have to work hard...

-..but I will be sitting down

-to enjoy it.

-Ffion Jones won the double,

-the Blue Riband and the choir.

-I'm sure you enjoyed

-recording the CD.

-It was a different experience

-for the choir.

-We usually concentrate

-on competitions.

-to Everest Base Camp in Nepal.

-On Friday, we heard about their

-exciting plane ride from Kathmandu.

-instalment of their journey.

-After the adrenalin-fuelled trip

-to the world's smallest runway...

-..from Kathmandu to Lukla

-it was time to walk to Base Camp.

-Here we go for the next twelve days.

-Our journey started 2,860 metres

-above sea level in Lukla...

-..before passing through towns

-and villages to Everest Base Camp...

-..5,364 metres above sea level.

-Considering we were far

-from any city...

-..there were familiar things

-along the way.

-Wherever you go in the world...

-..you'll always find a Starbucks

-and an Irish bar.

-It's nice and not too hot.

-It feels fresh

-and we're in the Himalayas.

-It's very pretty.

-The land here is fertile and green.

-There were plenty of good paths

-for all the hikers.

-Most of the inhabitants of Kathmandu

-were Hindu...

-..but here they were

-mostly Buddhist.

-That's because we were closer

-to Tibet.

-There were plenty of prayer wheels

-to be seen along the way.

-I've seen something interesting.

-It's a GLOF risk management sign.

-GLOF means a glacial lake

-outburst flood.

-With global warming, GLOF is more

-likely in places like this.

-Anything for me to worry about?

-Anything for me to worry about?

-

-I hope not.

-If it did happen, a huge wave of

-water would run down this valley.

-We wouldn't stand a chance

-but I hope it never happens.

-At the end of the first day...

-..we stayed in a sleepy village

-200m lower down from Lukla.

-Here we are, home sweet home!

-Home for the night.

-Good morning.

-This is the second day,

-our first real day of hiking.

-We'll be walking seven miles.

-that we will see Everest.

-Namche Bazaar was our next stop.

-800 metres of climbing...

-..over six hours of slow walking

-to combat altitude sickness.

-This was our first experience of

-walking over a suspension bridge.

-It's lucky we're not scared of

-heights!

-We were now in

-Sagarmatha National Park.

-Sagarmatha is what the Nepalese

-call Everest.

-Life is simple here and the

-traditional ways of living...

-..haven't changed for centuries.

-Although there are plenty of hikers

-in May and October.

-Finally, we arrived at Namche Bazaar

-at 3,400 above sea level.

-This is where we'd stay

-for two nights to acclimatize.

-In Namche, we saw our first glimpse

-of Everest.

-This is a statue of the first Sherpa

-to conquer Everest in 1953...

-..Tenzing Norgay.

-We are now 3,700 metres above sea

-level and above Namche Bazaar.

-I didn't expect to see this today.

-It's an old runway, possibly

-the highest in the world.

-It doesn't operate anymore

-because of concerns...

-..that it would take jobs

-away from local people.

-As we climbed higher with every step

-and the landscape becoming barer...

-..it became colder and it took us

-two days to reach towns higher up...

-..for another day

-of acclimatization.

-I am starting to feel

-the effects of altitude.

-I have just fainted...

-..and I have a cold

-and it's freezing!

-Daf doesn't feel too well either.

-Tomorrow is a day of

-acclimatization.

-I hope we feel better

-by tomorrow night.

-For now, goodnight.

-..because we had another

-1,000 metres to climb...

-before we reached Base Camp.

-Daf and Steff were fulfilling

-It's non-stop songs and chatter.

-We're feeling tired after 14 hours,

-but not too tired to stop.

-My brother did it three years ago

-We're raising money for

-New Pathways and Mind Cymru.

-New Pathways deals with individuals

-who have been sexually assaulted.

-Mind Cymru is close to our hearts

-as our friend, Wil died this summer.

-The charity helps those

-with mental health issues.

-I've been helping the girls

-since 8.30pm last night.

-Hopefully,

-I'll be awake at 8.30pm tonight.

-The responded well to the task but

-I don't they prepared well for it!

-It's an honour to be here.

-I'm doing my Radio Wales show.

-But now I'm doing a simulcast with

-Radio Glangwili and Radio Wales.

-The girls are doing something great

-The Coal Exchange is the home of

-an historical financial milestone.

-It has also seen world-renowned

-performers playing on its stage.

-After years of uncertainty, the

-building is to become a hotel.

-As Rhodri explains,

-the work has already started.

-For historians it's among the most

-iconic buildings in the capital...

-..and an the historical site from

-the golden age of Welsh industry.

-For another generation,

-it's home to music...

-..from Van Morrison, Geraint Jarman,

-to Catatonia and the Manics.

-This place has welcomed the greats.

-But it was home to greater things

-from the early days.

-It dates from a golden era in Wales

-and was built back in 1883.

-It handled the colossal wealth that

-passed through the city of Cardiff.

-You can't imagine this place

-packed with buyers and sellers.

-Fortunes were made and lost here.

-The meaning of these Latin words

-are 'time flies' or even 'escape'.

-The message is to hurry up, don't

-waste time and grab opportunities.

-And that's what they did.

-The first deal was for 1 million

-and the cheque was signed here.

-Gentleman wore top hats and spats.

-Traders filled the entire hall

-and discussed commerce and exports.

-There's a story from

-every nook and cranny here.

-Like this memorial plaque for those

-workers who died in the Great War.

-may never open its doors ago.

-But now, at last, there's hope.

-Plans are afoot to transform it

-into a luxury hotel.

-As you can see,

-the work is well underway.

-Of all the buildings in Cardiff this

-one I wanted to see have a makeover.

-I was a student in Cardiff

-and regularly attended gigs here.

-I didn't realize at the time how

-lucky we were to have this place.

-I had so many greats nights

-at such a great building.

-What's the consensus about seeing

-the place being renovated?

-one section of the renovation work.

-I'm surprised how much can be done

-in a short timescale.

-This room and the other rooms

-look amazing.

-Mind you, it's a massive task

-and there's a lot of work entailed.

-There's an infestation of plants and

-rainfall and some dilapidated areas.

-But the building is still standing.

-Hopefully, it's the first step to

-renovate other buildings around us.

-This is the final section of the Bay

-that hasn't got new constructions...

-..and now there's a opportunity for

-the whole area to be transformed.
