-has got caught up in the excitement.

-I wanted a dramatic image to capture

-to meet those who make a living...

-..by caring for the next generation

-My husband says we socialize more in

-A Carmarthen craft club has won

-a gold prize and its fully deserved!

-organized by Coleg Menai.

-Here's a taste

-of today's competition.

-Tyres screeching

-and engines roaring.

-That's what you would expect to hear

-at the Anglesey Circuit.

-Today,

-it's the turn of electric cars...

-..the Goblin for primary schools

-and the F24 for secondary schools.

-It wasn't about who was quickest...

-..but who could travel furthest

-before the battery went flat.

-Catrin, what faces

-these young people today?

-Many young people from Wales and

-further afield have come to compete.

-There are ten secondary schools

-and fifteen primary schools.

-They have come to show

-how they built the cars...

-..and their prowess as engineers.

-It's going to be an exciting day.

-has just been practising.

-Very well.

-But at the start, the brakes didn't

-work and we needed a new tyre.

-How is the car?

-Fast!

-What is this car called?

-A Goblin.

-How much work is there

-before you come here to compete?

-It takes a lot to get the steering

-in properly and to paint it.

-This next car

-is from Ysgol Bodedern.

-I've been to the school to take a

-look at the preparations needed...

-..before they can

-come here to compete.

-Before Christmas, we received a kit

-and instructions to build the car...

-..from Grwp Llandrillo Menai...

-..as did a few schools

-on the island.

-We built the car in two parts,

-mechanically and electronically.

-First of all,

-we had the frame already welded.

-But it didn't have any bodywork.

-We bought big sheets of aluminium.

-A lot of cutting and folding had

-to be done to fit it to the car.

-The electronics are all behind me,

-under a metal panel.

-The motor is powered

-by two batteries of 12V each.

-We found out a week ago...

-..that we had to change the nose

-from aluminium to 200mm of foam.

-It's now more aerodynamic

-and safer if we were to crash.

-We are competing at

-the Anglesey Circuit on Thursday.

-It's not a first-over-the-line race.

-We all receive

-a new set of batteries.

-There are two ways of racing.

-You can either go flat out

-and run out of juice quickly...

-..or take your time

-and travel as far as you can.

-The crews now face

-an hour and half of racing.

-After hearing what they

-had to say at Ysgol Bodedern...

-..I remember the fable

-of the Tortoise and the Hare.

-Ian Rees, there is more

-to this event than racing cars.

-First of all, it's about fun.

-We're also trying to encourage

-the enthusiasm of schoolchildren...

-..in the fields of engineering,

-science and mathematics...

-..the STEM subjects.

-As two middle-aged men, we must

-confess that we're a bit envious!

-I would love to race these cars

-but I don't think I would fit!

-I'll jump into the trailer

-back there!

-It's their big moment.

-Yes, I hope they enjoy it

-and take an interest in engineering.

-Congratulations to Ysgol Esceifiog,

-the winners of the Goblin section.

-Ysgol Llaingoch came second; both

-are primary schools on Anglesey.

-Ysgol Dyffryn Taf of Whitland

-won the F24 section...

-..and that is their car

-passing us now.

-Ysgol Glan y Mor

-from Pwllheli was second.

-Congratulations to everyone for

-making it a really worthwhile day.

-You won the 2014 Eisteddfod's

-Voice of the Future competition.

-As part of the prize,

-I was invited to perform...

-..in one of the evening concerts.

-I got the call to perform at this

-concert.

-I remember being on that stage.

-Llangollen

-is such a massive stage...

-..when compared to the National

-Eisteddfod or Urdd Eisteddfod.

-I remember it being very hot.

-I was trying not to sweat too much.

-My opponents

-were from across the globe.

-Winning that opened some more doors.

-You now live in London.

-I finished in Glasgow a year ago

-and have moved to London.

-I spent the last nine months

-studying in London.

-I can't wait to see what comes next.

-I'll be working on Portia

-in the Merchant of Venice...

-..with the Welsh National Opera.

-It's great to be able to perform

-in Wales on a new opera.

-the history of the coal industry.

-Our starting point

-was the end of the 18th century...

-..when children, women and men

-worked in quite terrible conditions.

-We then move along

-as the industry developed...

-..right up to the Miners' Strike.

-I had a small part to play.

-I made the pit pony.

-I made a plaque

-featuring a pit pony.

-I made the track in the exhibition.

-I didn't do that much

-but I enjoyed the company.

-I'm very glad that they won.

-I couldn't believe it!

-It was fantastic!

-It was amazing that we won.

-It was the icing on the cake.

-Congratulations to them all.

-but can also switch to English.

-The advantages of being a nanny

-I've worked for the same family

-for almost 15 years.
