-unique take on Wales.

-..someone who sees our country

-in a very special way.

-It's fair to say...

-..that Mary Lloyd Jones' main

-inspiration is the Welsh landscape.

-My colourful journey...

-..begins in her studio

-at the Old College in Aberystwyth.

-We know about your work that looks

-at special places around Wales...

-..but let's start here,

-in this studio.

-I am very happy here.

-The light is excellent

-through this huge window.

-I have plenty of room here.

-I have a desk

-where I paint small watercolours.

-I always begin a piece of work

-on a small scale.

-If I think the idea has some legs, I

-will develop it into a larger piece.

-One of the places which

-really struck me was Yr Ysgwrn.

-An atmospheric place, especially

-as I know Hedd Wyn's poetry.

-Looking from Yr Ysgwrn

-across the fields and the marshes.

-I looked at a map of the area, at

-the fields and the little streams.

-I could incorporate that

-onto the shapes I had seen...

-..together with the word Ysgwrn.

-Maps influenced me a lot last year.

-At the moment...

-..two galleries on Anglesey are

-showing Mary Lloyd Jones' work.

-Contemporary work

-at the Tegfryn Gallery...

-..historical and contemporary work

-at Oriel Ynys Mon.

-This is the third time for Mary

-to show her work at Oriel Ynys Mon.

-We are always happy

-to see her return here.

-We're lucky to have a big room

-and the pictures look great here.

-..to have this small exhibition of

-pictures from the story of Joseph.

-Mary made them when she was seven...

-..so it shows her development

-to this day.

-That's difficult to believe

-as I look at your work.

-I don't know,

-but it's not actually true.

-I am not 82 until August.

-He's made a bit of a mistake.

-He might have engineered it

-to increase his sales!!

-Despite that, your work

-reflects a younger spirit.

-I enjoy using colour,

-colours which react to each other.

-I like to create vibrancy

-because life is vibrant.

-I've prepared myself mentally!

-First, we've got a delightful story

-about a village near Carmarthen...

-..that's raising money for apparatus

-so a girl play with her friends.

-Nantgaredig has hit the headlines

-for its unique way of fund-raising.

-Daf went to hear all about it.

-Nantgaredig sits four miles east

-of Carmarthen in the Towy Valley.

-The village is usually quiet

-and has a close-knit community...

-..but foreign visitors came from

-nowhere and descended on the area...

-..to interrupt daily life

-and they are everywhere!

-Thirty plastic flamingos are

-currently landing in Nantgaredig.

-We searched for fund-raising ideas

-online and found this in America.

-I thought it looked like a bit

-of fun and slightly mischievous.

-I remember the meeting where Rachel

-mentioned the flamingos.

-Most of us looked around the room

-in amazement at the idea.

-The villagers have jumped on board

-and love the idea.

-The scheme works

-by having an unknown individual...

-..to nominate and pay for someone

-else to have these flamingos.

-Rachel places them in the garden

-to surprise the homeowner.

-I woke up one morning to find

-30 pink flamingos in the garden.

-I did do a bit of research

-to see if they needed to be fed.

-Luckily, they were not problematic

-but I struggled to get rid of them!

-All proceeds raised is donated

-to buy a bike for Menna Morgan...

-..a pupil at the school who suffers

-from a chromosome deficiency.

-We're unsure of how Menna

-will develop and what faces her...

-..but the bike will help Menna

-to interact with other pupils.

-What did you think the first time

-you saw the pink flamingos?

-It was nice to see something

-different around the place.

-When we saw them in Nantgaredig,

-I stopped to show Menna...

-..and she loved it and didn't want

-to get back in the car.

-How important is it to raise money

-for this bike?

-There are bikes available,

-but she cannot ride them.

-This special bike means that she can

-play with the other children.

-Many of the flamingos

-have settled in Nantgaredig...

-..but some have flown the nest

-and been travelling.

-Some have even met

-the famous faces of Heno.

-We're all surprised at the support

-and people have been very generous.

-Many of those don't know us,

-the school or Menna.

-We want to say thank you

-and it means a lot to us.

-It's a successful venture and that

-raises smiles to see the flamingos.

-The elderly and youngsters have

-asked to be the next to get them.

-Everyone wants to be involved

-with the venture.
