-Today is Holocaust Memorial Day.

-The Holocaust has been the subject

-of several films.

-Oscar-nominated Claude Lanzmann:

-Spectres of the Shoa is the latest.

-The producer

-is Kimberley Warner from Conwy.

-Shoah is a Hebrew term

-that means destruction.

-The film is a masterpiece

-and is pioneering.

-For the first time, a documentary

-touched the hearts of a nation.

-The film

-is nine and a half hours long.

-I haven't watched it in its entirety

-but have seen excerpts.

-It's very difficult to watch.

-There aren't any politicians,

-generals or officers in the film.

-These are real people and that's

-what makes it powerful viewing.

-It's almost unbearable to watch.

-To this day, people in Israel

-think fondly of Claude Lanzmann...

-..because he can share their history

-with the world.

-It's an incredible film.

-This is a record of the lives of

-those people who experienced it all.

-It was often a taboo subject

-and this was true of my family.

-This history would have been lost...

-..were it not for those people

-who chose to speak out about it.

-In this film, you hear

-the experiences of the survivors.

-For every survivor, there are

-thousands who are not alive today.

-It's important that we remember

-those people who suffered.

-One also hopes

-that people look at this event...

-..and learn a lesson

-in terms of the effects of racism.

-We have a long way to go before we

-learn the lesson of the Holocaust.

-by delivering five meals a week.

-I've built up my company and I now

-deliver around 40 meals per week.

-It's going to be a drop goal attempt

-Elinor plays outside half

-for the Welsh rugby team.

-Therefore, she knows exactly what

-to eat to perform well on the field.

-This superfood salad has quinoa,

-beetroot, mango and sugar snap peas.

-There's also hummus to add flavour

-and protein to this steak salad.

-Next, we celebrate young talent and

-the revival of an iconic building.

-Pontypridd's Muni Arts Centre

-closed its doors back in 2014...

-..due to local council cuts

-but the centre has now re-opened.

-Rhodri invited actor, Huw Blainey

-of Pontypridd back to an old haunt.

-The Municipal Hall was built

-at the end of the 19th century.

-It was a gothic building

-that was home to a Wesleyan chapel.

-It remained a community centre

-as the religious services dwindled.

-By the start of the 21st century...

-..this listed building was home

-to performers and audiences.

-I remember visiting a number

-of exhibitions in the gallery.

-It also staged plays

-and was used as a cinema.

-At Christmas, it would regularly

-host Welsh language pantomimes.

-It left a massive gap in the

-community when it closed its doors.

-Late last year, the local council

-and various other groups...

-..united to renovate and re-open

-the site bringing a new hope.

-It's our aim to have a centre where

-the community can enjoy themselves.

-We hope they like the location

-and the venue.

-In the past, they supported the site

-and can do that again.

-The local lad, Huw Blainey

-is delighted with its restoration.

-His first experience of performing

-on a stage was at this venue.

-I first came here to see Martyn

-Geraint's shows with my school.

-After that, I joined a local amateur

-dramatics and did three big shows.

-The first was Back To The 80s.

-My best memories are from Oliver

-when I played Fagin which was fun.

-I was shocked

-when I heard of its closure.

-If it wasn't for this place...

-..I wouldn't have the confidence

-to go to a drama college...

-..and become

-a professional performer.

-Huw has been busy and was a pupil in

-the first series of Gwaith Cartref.

-Last year, he took to the stage

-with the Arad Goch theatre.

-Over the winter, he was in Cumbria

-for a Christmas musical...

-..where he even had

-support from home.

-Last Christmas, I was in Keswick

-performing in The Snow Queen.

-It's a long way from Pontypridd

-so decided not to travel home.

-My parents are very supportive

-and kind.

-Gareth Blainey commentates

-on the football for Radio Cymru.

-They spent Christmas in Keswick and

-it was great to have them there.

-Whilst Huw is back,

-he can enjoy his second home.

-It's close to everyone's heart and

-full of life and excitement again.

-We've seen a few examples

-of local people coming together...

-..and establishing a business

-to give a place a new lease of life.

-It's very promising for the future.

-It has life and excitement and

-will go from strength to strength.

-This was unimaginable in 1843 when

-Frances Hoggan was born in Brecon.

-She was the first ever female doctor

-in Britain and the second in Europe.

-Earlier, an event took place at

-the Senedd to recognize her work...

-..and launch a medal that'll inspire

-more women to venture into research.

-This lady, in the 1870s,

-from Brecknockshire...

-..became a graduate in medicine.

-Frances Hoggan is very important.

-She had a real talent

-and was determined to be a doctor.

-She's a good role model for people

-in Wales and for young women.

-There's a lot of unsung heroines

-that you don't know much about.

-The Learned Society of Wales...

-..recognizes the talents

-that we have or had in Wales.

-The medal is very special.

-Every woman working in research

-should strive to win this medal.
