Good evening and welcome to the final of The Apprentice 2015.

0:00:020:00:04

12 weeks ago, 18 candidates entered the boardroom,

0:00:040:00:06

hoping to win Lord Sugar's £250,000 investment.

0:00:060:00:10

Now, only Vana and Joseph remain and one of them

0:00:100:00:13

is about to become Lord Sugar's new business partner.

0:00:130:00:15

In the next hour, we'll find out which of them that is

0:00:150:00:18

and then straight afterwards both candidates will join us

0:00:180:00:21

here on You're Hired, where we'll be talking to them

0:00:210:00:23

and looking back at this year's series, along with our panel

0:00:230:00:27

and the other candidates and, of course, Lord Sugar himself.

0:00:270:00:30

All of that later.

0:00:300:00:31

First, let's sit back and enjoy the final of The Apprentice.

0:00:310:00:35

£250,000.

0:00:370:00:40

It's an acorn which we want grown into a great oak tree.

0:00:400:00:44

Lord Sugar's on the hunt for a brand-new business partner.

0:00:440:00:48

If you think this process is tough,

0:00:480:00:50

it's just got a whole lot tougher.

0:00:500:00:53

Over the next 12 weeks,

0:00:530:00:54

you are out of your comfort zone.

0:00:540:00:57

Ready to fight for his funding,

0:00:570:01:00

18 aspiring entrepreneurs.

0:01:000:01:03

Supply and demand - that's what this is about.

0:01:030:01:05

I'm demanding the answers,

0:01:050:01:07

you better bloody well supply them.

0:01:070:01:09

On the table, a quarter-million-pound investment

0:01:100:01:15

and a 50-50 partnership with Britain's toughest backer.

0:01:150:01:19

You haven't used any of your skills, any of your knowledge.

0:01:190:01:23

Mistake on that, mistake on this.

0:01:230:01:25

Straight in the bin.

0:01:250:01:27

-Rich, come on!

-Let's go, mate.

0:01:270:01:29

It's a deal worth battling for.

0:01:290:01:30

I sold the most yesterday.

0:01:300:01:32

-You did yesterday, but this morning you didn't.

-Whatever. Whatever.

0:01:320:01:35

18 candidates...

0:01:350:01:36

-Hang on. Ooh.

-Common sense prevails.

0:01:360:01:39

We're going to be explosive.

0:01:390:01:40

..12 testing weeks...

0:01:400:01:42

-I really don't know what to do.

-I messed up a bit, didn't I?

0:01:420:01:44

CHARLEINE SQUEALS

0:01:440:01:46

..one life-changing opportunity.

0:01:460:01:48

You're fired. You're fired.

0:01:480:01:50

This is a bad call on strategy.

0:01:500:01:52

You're fired.

0:01:520:01:53

-I'm going to win, I'm going to win.

-You so want to win.

0:02:020:02:05

Previously on The Apprentice...

0:02:050:02:07

Today, you are going to present your business plans.

0:02:070:02:12

It's going to be a long day.

0:02:120:02:14

For the final five...

0:02:140:02:16

I just want the world and everything in it.

0:02:160:02:18

No matter what. I'm not going to stop.

0:02:180:02:20

Believe me, I believe you.

0:02:200:02:22

..the ultimate grilling.

0:02:220:02:23

I think you're the type of guy that feels you can write

0:02:230:02:26

a lot of bullshit and no-one will see the truth underneath.

0:02:260:02:29

I've thrown it away. I want my mum.

0:02:290:02:32

In the boardroom...

0:02:320:02:33

Joseph, you've got to show me a path as to how this can get big.

0:02:330:02:37

..the inquisition continued.

0:02:370:02:39

Vana, I ain't worried.

0:02:390:02:40

£250,000 is like a spit in the ocean.

0:02:400:02:44

For Charleine, some parting advice.

0:02:440:02:46

Why don't you just carry on in Plymouth? You're known there,

0:02:460:02:49

you developed your business there.

0:02:490:02:50

With regret, Charleine, you're fired.

0:02:500:02:53

Gary's business...

0:02:530:02:54

A virtual party is when you can actually beam people in.

0:02:540:02:58

-It's like virtual meetings.

-Skype, isn't it?

0:02:580:03:00

..baffled.

0:03:000:03:01

Don't get it. You're fired.

0:03:010:03:04

And thoroughbred Richard...

0:03:040:03:06

You've done extremely well.

0:03:060:03:07

You were in the winning team eight times.

0:03:070:03:10

..fell at the final hurdle.

0:03:100:03:12

I'm not going into business with anybody that's got some other

0:03:120:03:15

deal on the side, so, Richard...

0:03:150:03:17

He became...

0:03:170:03:18

You're fired.

0:03:180:03:19

..this 16th casualty of the boardroom.

0:03:190:03:22

Very well done, the pair of you. You're in the final.

0:03:220:03:25

Now, just two remain...

0:03:250:03:27

-Well done, Vana.

-Great job.

-So happy.

0:03:270:03:29

..to fight it out to become Lord Sugar's business partner.

0:03:290:03:33

7am.

0:03:430:03:44

PHONE RINGS

0:03:480:03:50

-Hello?

-'Good morning.

0:03:530:03:54

'Lord Sugar would like you to meet him at City Hall.

0:03:540:03:56

'The cars will be with you in 20 minutes.'

0:03:560:03:58

For the finalists...

0:03:580:04:00

-We've to be at City Hall in 20 minutes. Ready?

-I'm getting up.

-OK.

0:04:000:04:04

..it's head-to-head.

0:04:040:04:06

Vana's a very credible candidate,

0:04:060:04:08

but I'm going to try my best and I'm here to win.

0:04:080:04:11

We are not here for the same reasons.

0:04:120:04:15

I'm here because I want to create an impact on the world.

0:04:150:04:18

He's here because he wants to become a billionaire.

0:04:180:04:21

On the banks of the Thames...

0:04:250:04:27

..City Hall.

0:04:280:04:30

London's political powerhouse

0:04:330:04:36

and location for Lord Sugar's final showdown.

0:04:360:04:39

Good morning.

0:04:560:04:57

JOSEPH AND VANA: Good morning, Lord Sugar.

0:04:570:04:59

Only one of you can receive my £250,000 investment,

0:04:590:05:03

so this is your last opportunity to convince me it should be you.

0:05:030:05:09

And for your final task I want you to launch your businesses.

0:05:090:05:13

You need to research your market and produce a digital billboard

0:05:130:05:17

and promotional video.

0:05:170:05:18

And in a few days' time,

0:05:180:05:20

you'll be back here presenting to 200 industry specialists.

0:05:200:05:25

Well, there's a lot to do, so I've arranged some help.

0:05:250:05:28

Vana, heads or tails?

0:05:390:05:41

Heads.

0:05:410:05:42

Tails.

0:05:420:05:43

Joseph, choose your first assistant.

0:05:430:05:46

Erm, I'm going to go with Gary, please.

0:05:470:05:50

I'm going to go with Richard.

0:05:550:05:56

Brett, please.

0:06:000:06:01

Charleine.

0:06:030:06:04

Elle, please.

0:06:050:06:06

Ruth, please.

0:06:090:06:10

Mergim, please.

0:06:120:06:13

Natalie.

0:06:160:06:17

I wanted you anyway.

0:06:170:06:19

-VANA LAUGHS

-Promise.

0:06:190:06:20

Now, Vana, you really need to prove to me that there is

0:06:220:06:25

a market out there for your dating business

0:06:250:06:28

and that my £250,000 won't be quickly swallowed up.

0:06:280:06:32

And, Joseph, you have a small-time plumbing business at the moment.

0:06:320:06:37

You're going to have to explain how you're going to grow that to

0:06:370:06:41

make it into a substantial company.

0:06:410:06:44

So I look forward to seeing you all in a couple of days' time.

0:06:440:06:47

Off you go.

0:06:470:06:48

Two days to prove plans can become profitable partnerships.

0:06:530:06:57

Great to see you again, boys.

0:06:570:06:59

Congratulations.

0:06:590:07:00

Really pleased to be on Vana's team.

0:07:020:07:04

She's very switched on, very well-educated person.

0:07:040:07:07

-She'll know what she'll want to do.

-We are just vessels of Vana.

0:07:070:07:11

First for both finalists, put the plans to their troops.

0:07:120:07:16

Essentially it's an online dating app.

0:07:160:07:19

It's about playing games in order

0:07:190:07:20

to figure out who you should be matched with.

0:07:200:07:23

The types of games will be like brainteasers, psychometric tests,

0:07:230:07:26

we want to figure out if you're empathetic, if you're a risk taker,

0:07:260:07:29

all those things, but we want to figure them out without asking you.

0:07:290:07:32

There is a scientific algorithm matching you with a person,

0:07:340:07:38

based on who you are. It's not just some random algorithm.

0:07:380:07:41

The way we do it is with this Oxford PhD. He's going to be

0:07:410:07:44

the brains behind it, so it's something that makes sense

0:07:440:07:46

because he actually has a PhD in desire.

0:07:460:07:49

Gaming meets dating.

0:07:510:07:53

This is a novel, but complicated concept,

0:07:530:07:55

but Richard is a self-proclaimed marketing expert

0:07:550:07:58

so maybe he can communicate it in her branding.

0:07:580:08:01

I'll just table one idea that I've sketched out

0:08:010:08:03

here in terms of the billboard.

0:08:030:08:05

You could have just two people on their phones.

0:08:050:08:08

Coming up on the phones could be things like

0:08:080:08:11

"extrovert", "determined", "risk taker".

0:08:110:08:13

I know I've chosen a really good team.

0:08:130:08:15

I need someone on board who can help pitch, brand and market,

0:08:150:08:19

and that's Richard's expertise.

0:08:190:08:21

I might not like him as a person, but I like him in business.

0:08:210:08:25

I could take your concept and make sure that billboard holds up

0:08:250:08:28

to what your concept is.

0:08:280:08:30

I like that idea.

0:08:300:08:32

Across the hall...

0:08:320:08:33

Guys, great to see you again.

0:08:330:08:35

..a warm reunion.

0:08:350:08:36

My existing business is a plumbing, heating and maintenance business.

0:08:360:08:40

What our aim is to do is to expand the business,

0:08:400:08:43

moving into renewable technologies like the solar panels.

0:08:430:08:46

So you start with an initial investment,

0:08:460:08:49

have the system installed and then you get free hot water.

0:08:490:08:53

I want to make sure I'm on the same level as you.

0:08:530:08:55

I pretty much understand everything

0:08:550:08:56

you mentioned apart from the renewable technologies.

0:08:560:08:59

Joseph picked returning candidates based on how much he liked them,

0:08:590:09:02

not based on how much they could help him.

0:09:020:09:04

See the tag line I've come up with is "creating a sweeter future",

0:09:040:09:07

obviously cos you've got the play with the Lord Sugar element.

0:09:070:09:09

'And there's no inspiration'

0:09:090:09:11

and I think he'll be kicking himself that he didn't pick people with

0:09:110:09:14

a much more creative and marketing background than the people here.

0:09:140:09:17

You need to start thinking about image

0:09:170:09:19

and that's what we need you to be able to say, what your vision is.

0:09:190:09:23

Yeah.

0:09:230:09:25

10:30.

0:09:250:09:26

Half of each team heads off to research their market

0:09:280:09:31

and create a digital billboard.

0:09:310:09:33

I really like the idea that the game that you play starts to

0:09:330:09:36

influence the person that you're going to be introduced to.

0:09:360:09:39

You always think,

0:09:390:09:40

"Why would I be attractive to the opposite sex and then..."

0:09:400:09:43

-Aw. You're OK, Richard.

-Didn't ever have any problems in my day.

0:09:430:09:47

Back at base...

0:09:490:09:50

-The words "play" and "date" have to be in the name.

-OK.

0:09:500:09:53

So that's why I'm thinking Date Play.

0:09:530:09:56

..name sorted for Vana.

0:09:570:09:59

Actually, can you just make the word "play" in the fuchsia?

0:09:590:10:03

Next, putting love into the logo.

0:10:030:10:05

-You don't want to be too feminine, as well.

-The pink is not pink.

0:10:050:10:09

-It's like pinkish-reddish.

-Do you want any aspect of it to look fun?

0:10:090:10:12

I don't really want too much fun.

0:10:120:10:14

On the other team...

0:10:140:10:16

How about the name My Plumber?

0:10:160:10:17

The protege.

0:10:170:10:19

..aiming for a bold new brand-name...

0:10:190:10:23

What about something like The Plumbing Co?

0:10:230:10:25

-..Joseph, Gary and Mergim.

-Do you want to write this up on there?

0:10:250:10:29

Enerplutuer. E-N-E-R-P-L-U-T-U-E-R.

0:10:290:10:33

Basically, the way I've come up with it is put

0:10:330:10:35

"future", "plumbing" and "energy", and just mixed the words up.

0:10:350:10:40

So, I just thought of one, guys. PrimeTime Plumbers. PTP.

0:10:400:10:44

-Rolls off the tongue.

-PrimeTime Plumbers. Hm?

0:10:440:10:48

Right.

0:10:480:10:50

For Vana's digital billboard creatives...

0:10:500:10:53

I'm thinking having a girl,

0:10:530:10:55

sat there lonely at home sort of thing, glass of wine, do you know?

0:10:550:10:58

Then you've got the lonely old man, you know, as Richard would be,

0:10:580:11:02

and then you down on one knee

0:11:020:11:04

and then it shows how they've taken this lonely moment together?

0:11:040:11:08

Working with Charleine, it's depressing at times,

0:11:080:11:11

and it's funny at times, but what we're doing is presenting

0:11:110:11:16

the dream of what this could be and I think we'll be able to do that.

0:11:160:11:20

So I'm still thinking boy and girl back-to-back,

0:11:200:11:23

playing on a phone, and those words come out through the phone -

0:11:230:11:26

"determined", "go-getter", whatever, and the girl's got the same thing,

0:11:260:11:30

she's like, "Yeah, I'm a determined go-getter," etc,

0:11:300:11:33

-and then they come together into a heart.

-OK, that works.

0:11:330:11:36

Back working with Richard, you know what Richard's like.

0:11:390:11:42

It's kind of Richard's way.

0:11:420:11:43

But it's something that I never really got on board with.

0:11:430:11:46

We need to get it from one place, same height, same everything.

0:11:460:11:49

-Do you do photography?

-Honestly, I do this all the time.

0:11:490:11:53

You could do maybe like a... like a...like a...

0:11:530:11:57

-You tell me, then.

-I'm only joking.

0:11:570:11:59

Why don't you do it first and then I'll follow you, then?

0:11:590:12:02

Then we'll get the same looks, then?

0:12:020:12:04

'It's definitely going to take

0:12:040:12:05

'all my acting ability to make out that we're in love.'

0:12:050:12:08

Yeah, tell you what, walk over there.

0:12:080:12:10

Then just relax and then just start...

0:12:100:12:12

A few weeks ago, I could have throttled him,

0:12:120:12:14

and there he is, down on one knee to me.

0:12:140:12:17

Mid-afternoon.

0:12:210:12:23

Putting Joseph's renewable plan to market leaders British Gas...

0:12:230:12:27

We've got a few questions that

0:12:270:12:29

we want to run through with you if that's OK.

0:12:290:12:31

..Brett and Elle.

0:12:310:12:32

Joseph is really interested in growing renewable technology

0:12:320:12:35

so really one of the main questions we have for you is where you

0:12:350:12:38

-see that going.

-It's not that big in the UK yet.

0:12:380:12:41

It's a significant capital investment to put solar

0:12:410:12:44

panels on your roof.

0:12:440:12:46

He's just trying to latch on to the fact we are all getting green.

0:12:460:12:48

This is not a market that will be mass-market in the next five years.

0:12:480:12:52

-Hi, it's Elle speaking.

-Hi, Elle, how are you doing?

0:12:550:12:58

A couple of key things. With the renewable technology,

0:12:580:13:01

it's not something that's taking off in the next five years or so.

0:13:010:13:05

She said a lot of her customers,

0:13:050:13:07

they're a bit kind of nervous about going into it yet.

0:13:070:13:10

It's that initial cost and generally it is quite a large amount.

0:13:100:13:14

'It's not... You know...'

0:13:140:13:16

All right, then, bye. Speak to you soon. Bye. Bye.

0:13:160:13:20

I have my vision and I know what I wanted

0:13:200:13:22

and it's hard to now think of something else that'll work.

0:13:220:13:26

Renewable technology is 15 years away, but he seems to be

0:13:260:13:29

putting this at the forefront of his campaign and that's a real risk

0:13:290:13:33

because most people don't even know what it is, let alone how to get it.

0:13:330:13:37

I do think that there is a big market for renewable

0:13:370:13:40

energy that is something that is coming in.

0:13:400:13:42

I can't see anything else working.

0:13:420:13:44

-For Date Play...

-Welcome.

-Thank you.

0:13:460:13:49

..a chance to pick up pointers...

0:13:490:13:51

We're looking to launch a dating app paired through gaming.

0:13:510:13:53

..from online giant eHarmony.

0:13:530:13:56

The lady that's actually putting this together,

0:13:560:13:58

she's a very intelligent person.

0:13:580:14:00

The games aren't just going to be

0:14:000:14:01

like your tacky sort of cheesy games.

0:14:010:14:03

It'll be like a lot of in-depth and brain and science

0:14:030:14:07

and everything behind it.

0:14:070:14:08

You're probably going to have to demonstrate your unique

0:14:080:14:11

selling points to drive awareness of the brand

0:14:110:14:14

because it is such a crowded market.

0:14:140:14:16

You know, what kind of marketing do you want to put behind it?

0:14:160:14:19

We're creating a digital billboard and we are also creating a TV

0:14:190:14:22

advert, so what key messages do you think we need to get across?

0:14:220:14:27

Strong imagery is important, and make sure that your brand

0:14:270:14:30

feels really fresh and modern and not cheesy.

0:14:300:14:34

I think cheesy has been done in this industry.

0:14:340:14:36

We ourselves and others have learned the lessons from that.

0:14:360:14:39

-Look forward to putting this into action.

-Good luck.

-Thank you.

-Great.

0:14:390:14:43

-Hello?

-Hello, how are you doing?

0:14:430:14:46

-The super sub team.

-We thought we'd give you some feedback.

0:14:460:14:49

'What I took out of it as being the most important bits for you

0:14:490:14:52

'is the brand is really important.'

0:14:520:14:54

Like, get rid of the cheesy boy and girl staring into each other's eyes.

0:14:540:14:58

-OK.

-No cheese.

-I don't agree with that, but OK.

0:14:580:15:01

'I like the continuity between the ad and the billboard.

0:15:010:15:05

'You and Charleine will be in both.'

0:15:050:15:07

I think that's important and I think we're telling a clear story.

0:15:070:15:10

-Thank you.

-All right, cheers, bye.

0:15:100:15:12

Telling us not to do male and females.

0:15:140:15:16

It's like, OK, we've got this new age, like... It's dating!

0:15:160:15:21

We're going to have the company name across the top with

0:15:250:15:28

a naked flame with our still going in behind.

0:15:280:15:30

Applying Joseph's renewable approach to PrimeTime's digital billboard...

0:15:300:15:35

The solar energy represents renewable sources.

0:15:350:15:37

..Brett and Elle...

0:15:370:15:39

-Then some biomass energies. Is that all right?

-Yeah.

-Fantastic.

0:15:390:15:42

I think for Joseph at the moment, it he's not necessarily 100%

0:15:420:15:45

clear how he wants to portray his business idea.

0:15:450:15:47

Let's take a couple of pictures of the flame to pick the best one,

0:15:470:15:50

cos sometimes flames obviously move naturally.

0:15:500:15:53

I've tried to incorporate some sort of fun with it,

0:15:530:15:55

make it a little bit more snazzy.

0:15:550:15:57

We've tried to make the best out of a potentially bad situation.

0:15:570:16:00

I think you might have to go further away.

0:16:000:16:01

But then I've got your hand on it.

0:16:010:16:04

-For God's sake.

-Don't put your fingers over the end.

0:16:040:16:06

I tried to flick it again so it was ready.

0:16:060:16:08

In east London...

0:16:100:16:11

I do actually think it's a good logo. What do you think?

0:16:110:16:13

-Yeah.

-It's eye-catching, I think.

0:16:130:16:15

..PrimeTime Plumbers finally has a logo.

0:16:150:16:18

The whole point of this is to be innovative

0:16:180:16:20

and stand out from the competition.

0:16:200:16:23

-I think it gives an elegant side to it, as well.

-Yeah, I'm happy.

0:16:230:16:28

-KARREN:

-Joseph needs to understand how he takes his small business

0:16:280:16:31

and grows it into a nationwide business.

0:16:310:16:33

But instead he's focusing on the logo.

0:16:330:16:36

It's not very modern.

0:16:360:16:37

He just ought to really think about what is his USP,

0:16:370:16:41

what makes him unique and why is he the service you should go to?

0:16:410:16:45

With logos signed off...

0:16:450:16:47

-I think it looks good.

-Yeah?

-Yeah.

0:16:470:16:49

..time for finishing touches...

0:16:490:16:51

We've got two miserable-looking people with our company name on it.

0:16:510:16:54

That picture needs some words.

0:16:540:16:56

..for Date Play.

0:16:560:16:57

That needs to flash in a box with a black and pink border.

0:16:570:17:01

Stop flashing in boxes with black and pink borders.

0:17:010:17:04

-Can you make it sparkle?

-Ruth, stop sparkles.

0:17:040:17:08

On the other team...

0:17:080:17:10

This is going to represent his company...

0:17:100:17:12

..the big reveal of PrimeTime Plumbers.

0:17:120:17:15

-ELLE:

-It's not what I was expecting.

0:17:150:17:16

I think he's missed a trick with the colour element.

0:17:160:17:21

It's not what I thought of.

0:17:210:17:22

HE SCOFFS

0:17:220:17:24

HE SNORTS

0:17:260:17:27

If that's took three men three hours,

0:17:270:17:30

that's effectively nine man-hours to produce something like that.

0:17:300:17:33

It's not the way I'd portray my brand-new business to have looked.

0:17:330:17:36

If he's happy with it and he likes it, what more can we do?

0:17:360:17:40

-RICHARD:

-Yes. Bravo, guys.

0:17:420:17:45

-RUTH:

-Hopefully, we've kept it classy.

0:17:450:17:47

We don't want cheesy. So, you know, I think we've ticked all the boxes.

0:17:470:17:52

-Happy?

-Yeah.

-Happy?

-Happy!

0:17:520:17:55

-Yeah.

-Well done.

-Well done, well done, Ruthy baby.

0:17:550:17:58

I just don't think it stands out enough.

0:17:580:18:00

The billboard won't be

0:18:000:18:01

the be all and end all of whether or not he wins.

0:18:010:18:03

We can only deal with what we had

0:18:030:18:04

and we tried to make the best out of a bad situation.

0:18:040:18:07

I just think it all looks a bit shit...

0:18:070:18:10

in the nicest way possible.

0:18:100:18:12

Oh, God.

0:18:120:18:13

8am.

0:18:190:18:21

We have our storyboard here for the video promo to see

0:18:210:18:24

if you guys have any feedback.

0:18:240:18:26

Today, the teams must film promos for their fledgling businesses.

0:18:260:18:30

OK, so, here we have Charleine playing on her phone.

0:18:300:18:33

Taking charge of her video, Vana.

0:18:330:18:35

Then we have Richard playing on his phone in a different shot,

0:18:350:18:38

then we have jugglers and a light show.

0:18:380:18:40

So it'll be like a metaphor for what's going on behind the scenes.

0:18:400:18:43

I want to be there during the filming

0:18:430:18:46

because I think the real challenge will be getting across the main

0:18:460:18:49

ideas, so I want to make sure that I'm there as well in order to

0:18:490:18:53

have all the tools I need to give a good presentation tomorrow.

0:18:530:18:56

Date Play, the only dating app using scientifically

0:18:560:18:59

-formulated games to help match you.

-Nice, like it.

0:18:590:19:02

Elle, I hope you don't mind and, Brett, I hope you don't mind,

0:19:020:19:04

but I want to use you as actors in the video.

0:19:040:19:07

Oh, Christ, here we go.

0:19:070:19:09

On the other team, Joseph gets to grips with his promo.

0:19:090:19:13

So, Brett, we've got you the boiler suit and the tool bag.

0:19:130:19:16

-So then you come in.

-Ta-da.

0:19:160:19:18

Wow, that was fast. PrimeTime Plumbers.

0:19:180:19:21

So, Mergim's going to be the overseer.

0:19:210:19:24

Everything that is coming out, basically.

0:19:240:19:26

The fact that Joseph's giving Mergim

0:19:260:19:28

the role of overseeing the promo today is a little bit concerning.

0:19:280:19:32

Just make sure the message comes across,

0:19:320:19:34

that's the key to the advert.

0:19:340:19:36

Stand there as a viewer and make sure that everything is clear.

0:19:360:19:38

I know from experience what can happen when you give

0:19:380:19:41

Mergim any responsibility, so we'll have to see how that pans out.

0:19:410:19:45

Ruth and Natalie are going to be going to the app developers.

0:19:450:19:48

Tasked with finalising Vana's figures...

0:19:480:19:51

What's important is proving that this money will go further

0:19:510:19:55

than Lord Sugar thinks it will go.

0:19:550:19:56

..Natalie and Ruth.

0:19:560:19:58

-So I want Lord Sugar to see...

-Yes.

-..this is totally possible with the money.

0:19:580:20:01

And you need to know what you'll be spending out afterwards.

0:20:010:20:04

Yeah. And what I also know.

0:20:040:20:06

What's really important today is that WE show and prove to Lord Sugar

0:20:060:20:10

that his investment is not going to be wasted.

0:20:100:20:12

That's what's really important to get from this group this morning.

0:20:120:20:15

And by gorra - they're going to give us it.

0:20:150:20:17

-RICHARD:

-After you, ladies...

0:20:190:20:21

9:30am.

0:20:210:20:23

I'm kind of freaking out.

0:20:240:20:25

You guys need to ask the right questions.

0:20:250:20:27

I want you to run this, cos Ruth can be a little wordy.

0:20:270:20:30

You need to ask about...if it's feasible, how long it will take.

0:20:300:20:33

But the most important questions are going to be around costings.

0:20:330:20:36

So around the cost of developing the app.

0:20:360:20:39

Now I've just got images of me just kind of going, "Oh, no...

0:20:400:20:44

"my pipes have burst," then Brett running in going, "Oh, hang on, let me grab a tool..."

0:20:440:20:48

I've been stitched up here!

0:20:480:20:49

Central London.

0:20:510:20:53

Wouldn't I shout, "Mergim, the fire's not working..."?

0:20:530:20:55

-You'd be like - "Oh. PrimeTime Plumbers."

-Yeah.

0:20:550:20:58

Running up for record...

0:20:580:20:59

Location for PrimeTime Plumbers: The Movie.

0:20:590:21:02

I'm off to run a bath.

0:21:020:21:05

Mergim, the fire's not working.

0:21:050:21:07

-STIFFLY:

-Neither is the bath!

0:21:070:21:09

HE LAUGHS

0:21:090:21:10

-Cut(!)

-Mergim, no!

0:21:130:21:15

-BRETT MIMICS HIM

-"Neither is the bath!"

0:21:160:21:17

What are you doing?!

0:21:170:21:19

Action...

0:21:190:21:21

Well - what are we going to do about it? I'm freezing.

0:21:210:21:23

I'll get hold of PrimeTime Plumbers,

0:21:230:21:25

-on the...

-HE CRACKS UP

0:21:250:21:26

That was perfect!

0:21:260:21:27

-Guys, honestly...

-Brett, what can we do? Cos I'm trying.

0:21:270:21:31

How can you not laugh at that face? Look at it.

0:21:310:21:34

-It's starting to look like a 1970s porno.

-Action...

0:21:340:21:37

Well - what are we going to do about it?

0:21:370:21:40

What are you laughing for?!

0:21:400:21:42

Ohhh...!

0:21:420:21:44

Representing the inner workings of Vana's dating app...

0:21:460:21:51

-You guys are amazing.

-..a group of jugglers.

0:21:510:21:54

It's representative of them passing data,

0:21:540:21:56

with them juggling

0:21:560:21:57

-and passing the lights to each other. I think it's a good metaphor.

-Definitely, definitely.

0:21:570:22:01

It is a hard sell. This whole thing is asking people mentally

0:22:010:22:05

to make a leap from real people on phones

0:22:050:22:07

to some sort of weird,

0:22:070:22:09

surreal app world,

0:22:090:22:12

so we have juggling, dancing...

0:22:120:22:14

And MAYBE that's enough, but it's a big ask.

0:22:140:22:18

-HE CROONS:

-# This is the night... #

0:22:180:22:20

Rekindling the romance...

0:22:200:22:22

-# ..and they call it... #

-..Richard and Charleine.

0:22:220:22:25

Guys, no. Seriously.

0:22:250:22:27

You look like a freak.

0:22:270:22:28

OK, no rose.

0:22:280:22:30

I can't believe I've found my ideal match...

0:22:300:22:32

Right, too forced. Try again.

0:22:320:22:34

Vana, Richard and Charleine have had a whale of a time today

0:22:340:22:37

creating the video...

0:22:370:22:38

-RICHARD:

-It's really good to get to know you like this.

0:22:380:22:41

Richard... Your wedding ring.

0:22:410:22:43

'The fact is, though, that Vana's head should really be thinking

0:22:430:22:46

'about what could persuade Lord Sugar she can create'

0:22:460:22:49

a website, an app, and everything that goes with it,

0:22:490:22:52

and, most importantly, create a profit out of this business.

0:22:520:22:56

-You made it happen.

-The sparks were flying!

-The sparks were flying.

-Yeah.

0:22:560:22:59

Holborn.

0:22:590:23:01

-NATALIE:

-Hello...

-MAN:

-Hi there.

-RUTH:

-Hello, there, hi.

0:23:010:23:04

Sent to meet app developers for Vana's vital figures...

0:23:040:23:08

People will play games, and they'll be matched scientifically by what they do on the games.

0:23:080:23:13

..Ruth and Natalie.

0:23:130:23:14

How much would it generally cost for that app to be developed?

0:23:140:23:17

The starting price would be, say, £30,000 to £40,000.

0:23:170:23:19

The important thing to think about an app is it's never finished -

0:23:190:23:22

some of the leading apps,

0:23:220:23:23

you know, you're talking hundreds and hundreds of thousands of pounds.

0:23:230:23:26

-That'll probably soak up your initial investment.

-The sky is the limit.

0:23:260:23:30

In terms of return on investment for your client,

0:23:300:23:32

what sort of figures are being bandied about in THEIR minds?

0:23:320:23:37

It will be a long time before you get to a sort of a critical mass

0:23:370:23:40

where you can actually start to monetise it.

0:23:400:23:42

You're walking into such a crowded marketplace,

0:23:420:23:44

and none of this happens overnight

0:23:440:23:46

and I think your investor needs to understand that

0:23:460:23:48

it's about playing the long game,

0:23:480:23:50

and creating a brand more than anything else.

0:23:500:23:53

-NATALIE:

-'Hello.'

0:23:530:23:55

Hi, yes. How are you guys?

0:23:550:23:57

Some of them did say that it is possible to create an app for 30 to 40 grand.

0:23:570:24:02

'One person did say that he thought you would get through the whole investment in a few months.'

0:24:020:24:06

'So he was including marketing in that budget, correct?'

0:24:060:24:08

No, he was... We asked them specifically how much would it cost

0:24:080:24:12

'to just develop the app. Wasn't about marketing.'

0:24:120:24:14

-Yeah. Can I just clarify...

-No.

0:24:140:24:17

'The guy said that was to launch an app.'

0:24:170:24:19

-Vana...

-Let me just check.

-..my opinion was that it was just for

0:24:210:24:24

'app development. I'm pretty certain that was the case.'

0:24:240:24:27

-All right. OK.

-Bye, Vana, good luck.

0:24:270:24:29

They are confused between them of what the developers actually said,

0:24:290:24:33

-which I'm not surprised about - I mean, it's Ruth and Natalie...

-CHARLEINE:

-Yeah. Scatterbrained.

0:24:330:24:37

The fact that Ruth and Natalie

0:24:370:24:39

weren't able to even

0:24:390:24:41

be on the same page about feedback is pretty shocking.

0:24:410:24:45

This is cut-throat, this is competitive,

0:24:450:24:46

and there isn't room for these types of errors.

0:24:460:24:48

Late morning.

0:24:500:24:51

Lord Sugar's made it very, very clear that he needs me to show him

0:24:510:24:55

this is big enough for him to invest in.

0:24:550:24:58

To help PrimeTime hit the big time,

0:24:580:25:00

for Joseph, a meeting with company bigwigs.

0:25:000:25:03

So, thank you very much for your time this morning.

0:25:030:25:06

His aim - find out what it takes to serve commercial clients.

0:25:060:25:10

I currently run my own business,

0:25:100:25:12

I've been in the plumbing and heating industry for around ten years,

0:25:120:25:15

and we do all different types of domestic work.

0:25:150:25:18

The reason I am here today is to find out

0:25:180:25:20

how I'm going to enter into a slightly bigger,

0:25:200:25:23

more corporate market.

0:25:230:25:24

-Does anybody use renewable technologies in their business at the moment?

-Yes.

0:25:240:25:28

It's a very crowded market,

0:25:280:25:30

which has suffered from the unpredictability of government policy around renewables.

0:25:300:25:33

I'm more interested in smart technology.

0:25:330:25:35

If I've got a water pump that has four pumps and one's breaking down,

0:25:350:25:39

I want to know - I'm not on site.

0:25:390:25:40

I've never heard of anything like that, to be honest,

0:25:400:25:43

so that is a nice thing to look into.

0:25:430:25:45

What is the one unique thing

0:25:450:25:46

that you're going to provide that'll make us notice you?

0:25:460:25:49

Service is the main thing. The companies that I've dealt with in the past,

0:25:490:25:53

I made sure I was there straightaway,

0:25:530:25:54

the job was outstanding, the price very competitive...

0:25:540:25:57

What you do have is a very personable personality

0:25:570:26:00

and I think that that's probably going to carry you quite far.

0:26:000:26:03

I think that that's what you need to hone, if anything, a little more.

0:26:030:26:07

Joseph made the wrong decision yesterday -

0:26:070:26:09

he spent all day faffing around with the logo.

0:26:090:26:11

'But thankfully today he's come here, he's gleaned so much information...'

0:26:110:26:15

Growth is the key to getting the investment, and he focused today on that.

0:26:150:26:20

For Joseph, a last-minute change of direction.

0:26:200:26:23

-'Hi, Elle, how you doing?'

-Yeah, good. You?

0:26:230:26:25

'Is there any way that you could incorporate'

0:26:250:26:27

a smart technology scene into that filming?

0:26:270:26:30

-BRETT:

-'Not really. Erm...'

-'Hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, we can...'

0:26:300:26:33

Maybe Mergim could literally look at his phone, go,

0:26:330:26:36

-"I'll book it on the app."

-BRETT:

-Yeah, I know what you mean.

0:26:360:26:38

-No, that's fine.

-No worries, we can do that, that's no problem.

-'Cheers, then.'

0:26:380:26:42

Next, a plan to turn praise

0:26:420:26:43

into tools for tomorrow's pitch.

0:26:430:26:46

I'm going to ask everybody

0:26:460:26:48

to do a quick soundbite, something like,

0:26:480:26:50

"Listening to PrimeTime Plumbers

0:26:500:26:52

"I would potentially like to work with them in the future." Is that something you could say?

0:26:520:26:56

The opportunity that PrimeTime Plumbers has

0:26:560:26:58

is to create a really reliable brand.

0:26:580:27:01

It's nice that you said PrimeTime Plumbers, as well.

0:27:010:27:03

-I hope I'm about to get some shares or something.

-THEY LAUGH

0:27:030:27:06

I think Joe's got a terrific idea here.

0:27:060:27:09

And I think Joseph has got a great future in this industry.

0:27:090:27:12

Obviously we're hoping to come to London at some point, could I take your card?

0:27:120:27:15

-Thank you. Cheers. Take care.

-Let's have a chat when you're done.

-Definitely, thank you very much.

0:27:150:27:20

6:30pm.

0:27:220:27:25

Still with unanswered questions about her finances,

0:27:250:27:28

Vana calls for advice from the top...

0:27:280:27:31

-'Hello.'

-Hi. Erm, is this Mr Bertrand?

0:27:310:27:35

..the managing director of eHarmony.

0:27:350:27:38

Is this possible with £250,000?

0:27:380:27:40

'I think it's possible,

0:27:400:27:42

'I think you're going to have to be probably focused on a small number of features

0:27:420:27:48

'because you have limited budget.'

0:27:480:27:51

You do think that IS something that could work?

0:27:510:27:53

'It's a very, very competitive market.

0:27:530:27:55

'There are ten to 15 new dating apps

0:27:550:27:57

'running out of business every week in the UK,

0:27:570:28:00

'and it's very hard to get people to want to pay

0:28:000:28:03

'for a dating app, because they've got so much choice for free.'

0:28:030:28:06

So, I understand that that will be a difficult aspect of this.

0:28:060:28:10

-'Good luck.'

-Thank you very much, take care.

-'Take care.'

-Bye!

0:28:100:28:14

(Right.)

0:28:150:28:16

The warning signs are there for Vana.

0:28:160:28:18

Because £250,000 investment

0:28:180:28:21

is unlikely to be able to produce an app that then generates revenue.

0:28:210:28:26

I think she's going to need more than the amount

0:28:260:28:28

that Lord Sugar has on offer,

0:28:280:28:30

and that may very well cause him a problem.

0:28:300:28:32

9:00pm.

0:28:340:28:36

So, I think tomorrow, Gary, will be one of the biggest days of my life.

0:28:360:28:40

Feeling nervous obviously,

0:28:400:28:42

I've never spoke in front of 200 people before.

0:28:420:28:45

Is there any story why you went into that industry, from day one?

0:28:450:28:49

-Because I was expelled from school(?)

-GARY LAUGHS

0:28:490:28:52

I had nothing else, and I picked it at the time

0:28:520:28:54

cos it was there and people said that there was money in it.

0:28:540:28:56

D'you think, get all that in there?

0:28:560:28:58

Yeah, I mean, in your own way,

0:28:580:28:59

having that real passion, I think that'll help.

0:28:590:29:01

In life, you don't get these opportunities very often.

0:29:010:29:04

I'm feeling excited, I'm feeling nervous. It's a mixed bag of emotions.

0:29:040:29:09

It all comes down to me.

0:29:090:29:10

7am.

0:29:180:29:20

Got a lot of material ready for the pitch.

0:29:200:29:22

This is what it's all boiled down to,

0:29:220:29:23

all of the hard work, once again.

0:29:230:29:25

Today, the finalists present their companies to Lord Sugar.

0:29:250:29:29

You three girls are going to go to consumer testing.

0:29:290:29:32

It's important for me that you get statistics, so I want numbers.

0:29:320:29:35

But first, a chance to test their new brands on the public.

0:29:350:29:39

Got some boiler suits and some sandwich boards for you guys to wear...

0:29:390:29:44

-Think that looks good?

-ALL: Yeah.

0:29:440:29:45

Teams dispatched, Vana tackles the flaws in her funding.

0:29:470:29:52

We will have to do a second round of fundraising, for sure.

0:29:520:29:56

I think you've got two options.

0:29:560:29:58

I think you've got, ballsy, and just saying, "I know this is a problem,

0:29:580:30:02

-"I'm going to tackle it head-on..."

-Yeah, I'd rather do that.

0:30:020:30:04

The other option is...

0:30:040:30:07

I don't think you have another option. Cos it WILL come up.

0:30:070:30:10

I'm going to tackle the issue of funding and financing head-on.

0:30:100:30:13

I'm going to talk about raising that next round of financing

0:30:130:30:16

through a venture capital fund.

0:30:160:30:18

This is not going to be an investment where you're

0:30:180:30:21

putting £250,000 in and expecting returns immediately.

0:30:210:30:24

Maybe I shouldn't say... "There's a very...slim chance"?

0:30:240:30:28

It's something that I think will

0:30:280:30:30

kind of protect me

0:30:300:30:31

in the sense that I will have put all my cards out on the table,

0:30:310:30:35

so I won't get these difficult questions about fundraising.

0:30:350:30:40

"This IS a higher-risk investment than a gas or plumbing company,

0:30:400:30:43

"but this WILL give you larger returns."

0:30:430:30:47

Yes, there's hundreds of tombstones for apps.

0:30:470:30:51

But there's also some BIG apps

0:30:510:30:53

that have made millions of pounds,

0:30:530:30:55

and you could be the next one

0:30:550:30:57

-because you've got a great platform to be able to start from.

-Yeah.

0:30:570:31:01

Liverpool Street Station.

0:31:040:31:05

-That looks good.

-Yeah, it don't look out of place.

0:31:050:31:08

Joseph's team seek feedback for the pitch.

0:31:080:31:10

Would you say that you could get a clear message

0:31:100:31:13

about what PrimeTime Plumbers is about?

0:31:130:31:15

I wouldn't have noticed the advert unless you'd pointed it out.

0:31:150:31:18

-I thought it was pretty dull.

-Right, OK...

0:31:180:31:20

-Why did you choose a grey background?

-Kind of maybe the slight issue.

-I think colour.

-Yeah.

0:31:200:31:25

Perhaps you need to think about your name.

0:31:250:31:27

I don't think it gets the message at all.

0:31:270:31:28

We know we'll get some negative feedback.

0:31:290:31:31

Do you reckon it's a good idea to tell Joseph any of this?

0:31:310:31:34

-Well, to be honest...

-Nah...

-We should not overload him.

0:31:340:31:37

-They just said it could have been more colourful.

-Yeah.

-I would literally just say that.

0:31:370:31:41

9am.

0:31:410:31:43

For the finalists, pitch pending.

0:31:430:31:46

I'm going to try and... keep my focus with Lord Sugar.

0:31:460:31:51

I want him to see my confidence, I want him to see my passion,

0:31:510:31:54

I want him to see that I know what I'm talking about, I want...

0:31:540:31:57

I want him to look inside me and see that I'm the right man.

0:31:570:32:00

I wish right now you were throwing me into that 20-minute pitch.

0:32:030:32:06

I could just do it.

0:32:060:32:07

Just don't cheapen what you're doing.

0:32:070:32:09

Keep it classy, keep it classy.

0:32:090:32:11

Come on...

0:32:110:32:13

At Victoria Station...

0:32:140:32:17

Oh, my God...!

0:32:170:32:19

-Charleine, you look great.

-You look beautiful.

0:32:190:32:21

..Vana's team pull commuters.

0:32:210:32:24

-Have you ever downloaded any dating apps?

-No. I have a boyfriend.

0:32:240:32:28

You have a boyfriend, that's why.

0:32:280:32:29

Would you ever download this ap?

0:32:290:32:31

Probably not right now, I have a girlfriend.

0:32:310:32:33

I wouldn't go for it, but I actually think, like...

0:32:330:32:36

I think people like my dad would go for it.

0:32:360:32:39

Your dad would go for it?

0:32:390:32:40

City Hall.

0:32:430:32:45

Landmark for London.

0:32:470:32:49

Today, pitch location for Lord Sugar's finalists.

0:32:500:32:55

-Look at this. This is my stage, Gary.

-The scene is set.

0:32:580:33:02

Look at that...

0:33:020:33:04

-IN AWE:

-Wow!

0:33:040:33:05

First - filter through the feedback.

0:33:100:33:13

Overall, quite positive, to be honest - there wasn't any massive negative points,

0:33:140:33:18

it was just...the display could have been a bit more colourful.

0:33:180:33:22

Take that on the chin.

0:33:220:33:23

Yeah.

0:33:230:33:24

-VANA:

-Was the feedback good or not?

-Mixed.

-Mixed. OK.

0:33:240:33:28

Half of the people we did ask was in a relationship.

0:33:280:33:30

I don't want to hear about

0:33:310:33:33

the people in a relationship, obviously.

0:33:330:33:35

-So can you just tell me the numbers for the single people?

-Yeah. Right, OK.

0:33:350:33:40

Three people were single.

0:33:400:33:42

Yeah.

0:33:430:33:44

Out of three single people...

0:33:440:33:46

All of them would download.

0:33:460:33:48

That's 100%...

0:33:480:33:50

Er... Would they use the app? Four said yes, three said they wouldn't...

0:33:500:33:53

But are those three people the people in relationships? Cos of course they wouldn't use it.

0:33:530:33:57

It's like asking a bald man if he would use Charleine's hair salon.

0:33:570:34:02

-Of course he wouldn't, so that's not part of the sample.

-Yes.

0:34:020:34:05

The three who were single, 100% of them said they would download it.

0:34:050:34:08

100% of them said they liked the concept,

0:34:080:34:11

and they would pay.

0:34:110:34:12

-So from the little feedback we've got, it's been quite positive.

-Yeah.

0:34:120:34:16

1pm.

0:34:200:34:23

Doors open to top names from British industry.

0:34:230:34:27

Including experts from the worlds of plumbing...

0:34:280:34:32

and dating.

0:34:320:34:34

"My name is Joseph Valente.

0:34:440:34:47

"I'd like to go back to the beginning,

0:34:470:34:49

"and that requires talking about me."

0:34:490:34:52

-(Baroness Brady.)

-(Lord Sugar.)

0:35:000:35:02

Hoping to woo the industry experts...

0:35:040:35:07

..Vana Koutsomitis.

0:35:090:35:11

APPLAUSE

0:35:110:35:12

'I'm basically putting myself on the line.

0:35:140:35:16

'I'm showing my creation,

0:35:160:35:18

'that might not be accepted or

0:35:180:35:22

'welcomed by the industry experts.

0:35:220:35:23

'It's nerve-racking presenting my idea in front of a large audience.

0:35:260:35:30

'You know that there's no hiding.'

0:35:300:35:32

Hello, and welcome.

0:35:340:35:36

I have been working in the dating industry

0:35:360:35:39

for the past couple of years.

0:35:390:35:41

So I really understand the market.

0:35:410:35:43

And I think there's room for something new.

0:35:430:35:46

I'm introducing Date Play.

0:35:470:35:49

This is a concept that marries two very different fields,

0:35:490:35:54

but two very GROWING fields -

0:35:540:35:56

gaming, and dating.

0:35:560:35:58

I'm going to show you a quick video,

0:35:580:36:00

so you can understand what we're all about.

0:36:000:36:03

UPBEAT MUSIC

0:36:040:36:06

'Introducing date play.

0:36:060:36:07

'The fast, fun dating app.

0:36:070:36:10

'Date Play works behind the scenes,

0:36:100:36:12

'to match you using scientifically designed games.

0:36:120:36:16

'Play - to unlock your free daily match.

0:36:180:36:20

'It's a match!

0:36:220:36:24

'Date Play.'

0:36:250:36:27

MUSIC: I Will Never Let You Down by Rita Ora

0:36:290:36:32

People might say, "Oh, there's too many dating apps out there."

0:36:350:36:39

But they're wrong.

0:36:390:36:40

This is a growing industry.

0:36:400:36:43

One in four people

0:36:430:36:44

that get married today have met online.

0:36:440:36:47

That's telling us something, right?

0:36:470:36:49

So, let's go into the details.

0:36:490:36:52

Why is Date Play unique?

0:36:520:36:55

It will be scientific games, it'll be brainteasers.

0:36:550:36:58

It'll be psychometric-type tests.

0:36:580:37:00

But they will all be done in an interactive manner

0:37:000:37:02

that is engaging for the end user.

0:37:020:37:05

So the games will not be just random.

0:37:050:37:08

I will be working with an Oxford PhD -

0:37:080:37:10

we call him the Doctor of Desire.

0:37:100:37:12

CHUCKLING

0:37:120:37:13

In terms of the growth strategy, we think we can have 2.4%

0:37:150:37:20

of our free users convert to paying users.

0:37:200:37:23

What needs to happen now

0:37:230:37:25

is we need to prove this model.

0:37:250:37:27

We need to get those users on board, and then, if need be,

0:37:270:37:31

we can go and do another round of fundraising with a venture capital firm.

0:37:310:37:35

I want to quote Romain Bertrand,

0:37:370:37:40

who kindly helped with a bit of my market research.

0:37:400:37:44

He told me yesterday,

0:37:440:37:46

"I think it's definitely possible

0:37:460:37:48

"to launch a first version of the app,

0:37:480:37:50

"and operate it without having marketing,

0:37:500:37:52

"for under £250,000."

0:37:520:37:56

Thank you very much for your time today,

0:37:560:37:58

and I'd like to open it up to any questions you may have.

0:37:580:38:02

The main problem in the industry is

0:38:020:38:04

how to actually monetise this business. Why do you think

0:38:040:38:08

you'd be any different?

0:38:080:38:09

We think there's room for something new.

0:38:090:38:11

So this is a NEW opportunity,

0:38:110:38:15

that marries dating and gaming.

0:38:150:38:17

I think there's room for it - and I'd like to prove it.

0:38:170:38:19

Lots of people, they go on to the online dating up

0:38:190:38:22

because they literally want to get through at least 100 people a day,

0:38:220:38:25

and they are extremely aesthetically-driven.

0:38:250:38:29

That feels like a stronger proposition

0:38:290:38:31

than somebody who's well psychologically-matched.

0:38:310:38:34

I agree. But...there comes a point

0:38:340:38:37

where you need a smarter tool to help match people.

0:38:370:38:39

What if it can be fun -

0:38:390:38:42

but there was actually a thought process

0:38:420:38:44

that went on behind the scenes of the app,

0:38:440:38:46

that could ensure that you weren't going to meet ANOTHER boring date?

0:38:460:38:51

Thank you so much for your time, I really enjoyed being here today.

0:38:510:38:54

Oh, my God, it was like, so energising.

0:39:040:39:06

-I was dodging questions...

-You did so well.

-You did, honestly.

0:39:060:39:10

-It was great.

-Oh...

-BRETT:

-Well done.

-I'm so relieved.

0:39:100:39:12

There are risks to it,

0:39:120:39:14

but the capital value of the dating business is huge.

0:39:140:39:17

For Lord Sugar - feedback from the experts.

0:39:170:39:20

When they stick, they stick well - and it's viral

0:39:200:39:23

and there's a lot there that could make it work.

0:39:230:39:25

I'd invest in her as a person.

0:39:250:39:27

In terms of the idea, I think she's going to need a bit more help.

0:39:270:39:30

-Further investment...

-Yeah.

-..would make that business grow. That's how the model works.

0:39:300:39:34

That's what I'm coming round to thinking - £250,000

0:39:340:39:37

to get the thing off the ground and to demonstrate that it is scalable...

0:39:370:39:42

Don't be nervous. Do yourself proud.

0:39:440:39:47

About to take the plunge...

0:39:470:39:49

-You know your business, you know your market.

-..Joseph Valente.

0:39:490:39:53

'This is the biggest pitch of my life,

0:39:550:39:57

'everything we've done in this process comes down to this.

0:39:570:40:00

That was my chance to show Lord Sugar who I am, what I'm about.

0:40:020:40:05

Not only Lord Sugar but the industry.

0:40:050:40:08

Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen.

0:40:130:40:15

Please let me introduce you to...

0:40:150:40:18

PrimeTime Plumbers.

0:40:180:40:19

I would like to go back to where it all began

0:40:210:40:24

and that starts with myself,

0:40:240:40:25

which just happens to be my favourite subject.

0:40:250:40:28

I started plumbing and heating when I was 15 years old.

0:40:280:40:32

I then progressed. I started my first business in 2012,

0:40:320:40:36

in Peterborough, and I was able to very, very quickly take on

0:40:360:40:41

multiple engineers, have an office, employ a small infrastructure,

0:40:410:40:46

and now what I need to do is to push this brand out of Peterborough

0:40:460:40:50

and grow through larger cities.

0:40:500:40:52

My team has put together a promotional video

0:40:520:40:54

and I'd like to show you that now.

0:40:540:40:57

I'm off to run a bath.

0:40:580:41:01

Mergim, the fire's not working.

0:41:020:41:05

-The bath is not working neither.

-What are we going to do about it?

0:41:050:41:09

-I'm freezing.

-I'll book PrimeTime Plumbers on their app.

0:41:090:41:12

DOORBELL RINGS

0:41:120:41:14

Hi, I'm Brett from PrimeTime Plumbers.

0:41:140:41:16

Oh, wow. That's quick.

0:41:160:41:17

That's all done for you now.

0:41:170:41:18

The fire's been serviced and your hot water's running.

0:41:180:41:21

Thank you so much. We were freezing when we got in.

0:41:210:41:23

Well, you know you can get the app from PrimeTime Plumbers, which

0:41:230:41:26

enables you to be able to control all your heating from your phone.

0:41:260:41:29

'PrimeTime Plumbers,

0:41:290:41:31

'providing a local service to the nation 24/7.

0:41:310:41:34

'Find us on Facebook and Twitter.'

0:41:340:41:37

So, my vision for the brand is to expand it across the country,

0:41:390:41:44

but it's the way we go to market is the difference.

0:41:440:41:47

So we go to market through property management companies,

0:41:470:41:50

getting large portfolios that way.

0:41:500:41:52

This allows you to build the business very quickly

0:41:520:41:54

and, hopefully, one day, we are a nationwide business.

0:41:540:41:58

The future of this industry, in my mind, is going to be based

0:41:580:42:02

around smart technology. Controlling our thermostats on the app,

0:42:020:42:06

running a bath when we're not even at home, but I think it's key to

0:42:060:42:09

not forget plumbing and heating has been around for thousands of years.

0:42:090:42:14

It started basic in the Roman times

0:42:140:42:16

and it's progressed throughout the years, and I think it's going

0:42:160:42:20

to move on into the future, into the space age of our human race. So...

0:42:200:42:25

Yeah, the plumbing and heating industry is massive, basically.

0:42:250:42:30

I'd like to thank you all for listening to me today.

0:42:300:42:33

Any questions?

0:42:330:42:34

I loved your presentation,

0:42:340:42:35

-I loved the energy and enthusiasm you brought to it.

-Thank you.

0:42:350:42:38

Your whole service concept really struck me -

0:42:380:42:41

I think that's a good concept.

0:42:410:42:42

How are you going to make sure you recruit

0:42:420:42:44

and select engineers that live up to it?

0:42:440:42:46

I think that it's a process that requires vetting.

0:42:460:42:49

It's finding the right people and then it's holding on to those people,

0:42:490:42:53

and making sure they don't leave your business.

0:42:530:42:56

If you plan to grow through partnerships with property

0:42:560:42:59

management companies, how are you going to get the business

0:42:590:43:02

development skills that you need to win those contracts?

0:43:020:43:05

I think it's key to build relationships,

0:43:050:43:07

act very professional, talk to them about the service that you provide,

0:43:070:43:11

tell them how easy you can make their life,

0:43:110:43:13

to make your business stand out.

0:43:130:43:15

APPLAUSE

0:43:150:43:16

Thank you.

0:43:190:43:20

Yes! Smashed it!

0:43:250:43:28

So good! Well done!

0:43:280:43:30

The feeling that that gave me must be

0:43:300:43:32

like when you score in the World Cup!

0:43:320:43:35

I thought it was terrifically articulate, very engaging,

0:43:350:43:39

and he has a certain style and manner about him.

0:43:390:43:41

He definitely is right that there are some growth markets

0:43:410:43:45

in smart technologies, but he needs to really focus on what

0:43:450:43:48

he's good at and to build a reputation for himself.

0:43:480:43:51

I think he can build a nice business.

0:43:510:43:54

I guess the question is -

0:43:540:43:55

-can he build a really successful business?

-Hm.

0:43:550:43:58

Pitches over.

0:44:010:44:03

Tomorrow, the final boardroom.

0:44:050:44:09

You can go through to the boardroom now.

0:44:320:44:34

-Good morning.

-ALL:

-Good morning, Lord Sugar.

0:44:590:45:02

Well, welcome back, past candidates.

0:45:020:45:07

I've got to choose today to fix broken hearts or broken boilers,

0:45:080:45:13

-one of the two.

-LAUGHTER

0:45:130:45:15

So I'll start off with Joseph.

0:45:150:45:18

So, on day one,

0:45:180:45:20

you concentrated on the logo and the company name, is that right?

0:45:200:45:25

That's right. I did spend a lot of time

0:45:250:45:27

going through a number of names.

0:45:270:45:29

-Yeah, PrimeTime Plumbers you came up with in the end, yeah?

-Yep.

0:45:290:45:33

-Mergim, you came up with an interesting one, didn't you?

-Yeah.

0:45:330:45:37

HE LAUGHS

0:45:370:45:39

-Still inspired.

-LAUGHTER

0:45:390:45:43

It's nice to see you back again, Mergim.

0:45:430:45:45

I was thinking about you the other day.

0:45:450:45:48

I was demolishing a building somewhere

0:45:480:45:49

and there was some shelves that had to be destroyed.

0:45:490:45:52

I thought, "Mergim, that's right up your alley."

0:45:520:45:55

Anyway, the logo and the digital billboard.

0:45:550:45:59

Yeah, we were required to carry out the digital billboard.

0:46:000:46:03

Joseph wanted pictures to signify exactly what the company does

0:46:030:46:06

with regards to the plumbing, the heating and the renewable technologies

0:46:060:46:10

and I think that we did really get that across.

0:46:100:46:12

Feedback about it wasn't great though, was it?

0:46:120:46:14

They just said it was a bit bland, that's all they did say.

0:46:140:46:17

It sounds like pretty much a wasted day, I think, yeah?

0:46:170:46:19

If I'm coming up with a brand and I'm presenting to you, I don't

0:46:190:46:22

think spending a number of hours on it is a wasted day by any means.

0:46:220:46:26

The name is not the be all and end all of a decision

0:46:260:46:29

that I'm going to make over the business partner

0:46:290:46:33

or whether business is successful. You know, what's in a name?

0:46:330:46:36

What's important is to understand the business.

0:46:360:46:39

That's what I set you to do.

0:46:390:46:40

In fact, you sent Brett and Elle to talk

0:46:400:46:43

to the lady from the large energy organisation.

0:46:430:46:46

Yeah, that's right.

0:46:460:46:48

You didn't think you were better off deployed going to see them?

0:46:480:46:51

I'm lucky because I chose Brett and he's very clued up,

0:46:510:46:53

and I feel that he was able to convey, along with Elle,

0:46:530:46:56

the questions that I wanted answering.

0:46:560:46:58

I didn't think I needed to meet her personally.

0:46:580:47:00

One of Joseph's ideas is about this renewable energy.

0:47:000:47:03

-That's correct.

-Yeah.

-She said that it's not really going to take off

0:47:030:47:06

for another five to ten years, but it is important...

0:47:060:47:09

-Five to 15 she told me, yeah.

-Ah. Five to 15, yeah.

0:47:090:47:13

Anyway, the video.

0:47:130:47:15

I saw your acting ability in it, Mergim,

0:47:150:47:18

and I would suggest that you stick to your day job.

0:47:180:47:21

-HE LAUGHS

-No, no, actually, it was OK.

0:47:210:47:25

It was good, it told the story. Anyway...

0:47:250:47:27

We did have an idea, once we got the storyboard,

0:47:270:47:30

that it was going to look very, sort of '80s porno,

0:47:300:47:33

where we've got a leak and then the plumber turns up.

0:47:330:47:37

But we knew that it was for Joseph,

0:47:370:47:38

so we had to get a serious take on it, and I'm pretty sure that

0:47:380:47:41

Joseph was really happy with the end result, to be honest.

0:47:410:47:43

-You was in it also.

-A little bit, yeah.

-You was the plumber, yeah.

0:47:430:47:46

It only seemed right.

0:47:460:47:48

Trustworthy plumber you look like.

0:47:480:47:50

Easy to find as Lord Lucan, I think. And then, Joseph, you and Gary

0:47:500:47:55

-went off to a focus group, is that right?

-Yes, that's right.

0:47:550:47:58

I know a lot about the domestic market, so I wanted to go to

0:47:580:48:01

the large businesses and see what that market was all about.

0:48:010:48:04

-It was a good meeting, wasn't it?

-It was a really good meeting, yeah.

0:48:040:48:07

You learnt a lot. And I'll tell you what else Joseph did,

0:48:070:48:09

-he got the business cards of six or seven...

-I heard about that.

0:48:090:48:12

Yeah, leading businesses.

0:48:120:48:14

You've got more cheek than Kim Kardashian, I think.

0:48:140:48:17

-LAUGHTER

-Yeah.

0:48:170:48:19

-Yeah, that was good. Good. Happy working with Joseph?

-Brilliant.

0:48:220:48:25

-Absolutely brilliant.

-Completely think it's going to work.

0:48:250:48:28

-They good for you?

-The team were amazing.

0:48:280:48:30

-Once again, thank you very much for all your help.

-Good.

0:48:300:48:32

-Vana, you came up with this Date Play, didn't you?

-Yes.

0:48:320:48:36

There aren't many words related to playing and dating

0:48:360:48:40

and the combination had to be right.

0:48:400:48:42

The business model is all about playing a bit of a game.

0:48:420:48:45

The ultimate goal, isn't it, that you're actually putting two people

0:48:450:48:48

together, so that when they're down the pub in five years' time,

0:48:480:48:52

they'll say, "Do you remember where we met?"

0:48:520:48:54

"Yes, stage five of Space Invaders - I'll never forget it."

0:48:540:48:58

LAUGHTER

0:48:580:49:00

So, in the initial meeting, we wanted a unified strategy

0:49:000:49:04

between the digital billboard, the branding and the video.

0:49:040:49:06

Which looked like they came out of the same family, which is quite good

0:49:060:49:10

from a marketing point of view.

0:49:100:49:12

That shows that there's consistency in the marketing message,

0:49:120:49:15

which was very good. Then, you three make the video.

0:49:150:49:18

-You two are actually starring in it.

-Yeah.

0:49:180:49:20

This is a date where both of you have got your wedding rings on.

0:49:200:49:25

-The perfect match.

-LAUGHTER

0:49:250:49:28

I would've actually upgraded on that day, if I was given that option,

0:49:280:49:33

to actually take another match, Lord Sugar.

0:49:330:49:35

It wouldn't work for me.

0:49:350:49:37

-You can't say the same joke that many times.

-Anyway, yeah, so...

0:49:370:49:40

So Ruth and Natalie were going to go meet the app developers.

0:49:400:49:44

We were briefed to ascertain whether or not this app could be

0:49:440:49:49

launched within the funding that Vana is here to apply.

0:49:490:49:53

I know, that is what I sent her off to talk about.

0:49:530:49:56

I've got £250,000 to spend, that's it.

0:49:560:49:59

I expect you to be making money, not coming, knocking on the door

0:49:590:50:02

to me, six months later and saying, "Well, we've blown that.

0:50:020:50:05

"Let's move on."

0:50:050:50:07

Yeah, so I was really interested to hear

0:50:070:50:09

the feedback from London app developers.

0:50:090:50:11

We got some positives and negatives.

0:50:110:50:13

A lot of people said you could definitely do it

0:50:130:50:15

between 75,000 and 100,000.

0:50:150:50:17

One man said that it would cost 250,000, so...

0:50:170:50:20

I got it. You can build something for 150,000,

0:50:200:50:23

but actually a proper one is going to cost a lot more -

0:50:230:50:26

that's the bottom line.

0:50:260:50:27

So, then, you made that phone call to the dating site expert

0:50:270:50:32

and, in fact, you even quoted his positive statements at the event yesterday.

0:50:320:50:37

The point was that I wanted to get an expert opinion

0:50:370:50:40

to quell your concerns and to calm your worries about the funding problems.

0:50:400:50:44

I think you were wonderfully manipulative in that conversation.

0:50:440:50:47

You did quite leave out some of the elements that might have put

0:50:470:50:50

-a negative slant on it.

-Yeah.

-Yeah.

0:50:500:50:52

15 new apps come to the market every week

0:50:520:50:55

and 15 apps go bust every week, is that right?

0:50:550:50:58

I think was his words, wasn't it?

0:50:580:51:00

You might have that kind of radar where you kind of exclude...

0:51:000:51:03

-Selective hearing.

-Selective hearing hearing bad news.

-Maybe.

0:51:030:51:06

-So you're pleased to see on this team, yeah?

-Very pleased, yep.

0:51:060:51:09

-She was fantastic.

-It was a great pleasure to work with her.

0:51:090:51:12

-Exciting project, you think, yeah?

-Massively, yes.

0:51:120:51:15

The fact that linking gaming, which is incredibly popular online,

0:51:150:51:18

and also dating, which again is a massively growing industry,

0:51:180:51:21

you're almost bringing two big opportunities together.

0:51:210:51:25

Well, very helpful, ladies and gentlemen. Thanks for coming back.

0:51:250:51:30

It's nice to have seen you again. Thanks a lot.

0:51:300:51:32

-ALL:

-Thank you.

0:51:320:51:35

Take care. Good luck.

0:51:350:51:37

-Bye. Good luck, Vana.

-Cheers, Vana.

0:51:370:51:40

Bye. Good luck.

0:51:400:51:42

JOSEPH CLEARS HIS THROAT

0:51:450:51:47

Now, Vana, look, I spoke to all of these advisers yesterday

0:51:510:51:56

and unanimously they agree with me

0:51:560:52:00

that to think that £250,000

0:52:000:52:05

is going to be enough to kick-start

0:52:050:52:08

a revenue-earning dating application

0:52:080:52:12

is naive, to say the least.

0:52:120:52:15

In the presentation that I made to you yesterday,

0:52:150:52:18

I had included the information about going to do a round of financing

0:52:180:52:22

to venture capital firms and I will tell you

0:52:220:52:25

up front that I want to prove this model and go raise more money.

0:52:250:52:29

Am I getting the correct feedback from you now that this £250,000

0:52:290:52:35

is really the seed money to prove the model works?

0:52:350:52:42

Yes. Because of the nature of this industry, yes.

0:52:420:52:45

Yes will be good enough to me. Prove the model works, right?

0:52:450:52:48

That is correct. You would be investing in the fact that

0:52:480:52:51

you have faith that I can bring this to fruition.

0:52:510:52:55

If we can get 100,000 users in six months, we can go...

0:52:550:52:59

-Free users.

-It could be free users, it could be paying users,

0:52:590:53:03

because venture capital firms tend to just want to see traction.

0:53:030:53:07

They want to see that there's an upward trend.

0:53:070:53:09

I know what they want to see

0:53:090:53:10

cos I'm known to be a rather wealthy man

0:53:100:53:13

and, when you go to the financial community,

0:53:130:53:16

the first thing they will say is,

0:53:160:53:17

"Yeah, we like the idea, we'll take a share of it,

0:53:170:53:21

"but why doesn't Lord Sugar weigh in a bit more?"

0:53:210:53:23

OK. I understand your concern.

0:53:230:53:25

There's dozens of venture capital firms out there

0:53:250:53:28

and, as you saw with my pitching skills,

0:53:280:53:30

I guarantee I can make a pitch and get one investment at least.

0:53:300:53:33

That's the way it's going to have to happen. OK. I've got it.

0:53:330:53:37

I think I've got it now.

0:53:370:53:38

Now, Joseph, I sent you off the other day to address how

0:53:380:53:42

you are going to grow this business, right?

0:53:420:53:44

Basically, what I was trying to show you with what I did yesterday of how

0:53:440:53:47

we were going to grow was the only way we're going to do this

0:53:470:53:50

is by moving into different towns, that is how we're going to grow,

0:53:500:53:53

so what I would like to do with the money is

0:53:530:53:55

basically purchase new vans to be able to move into the new areas.

0:53:550:53:59

-Fair enough.

-New tools and then pay wages for new staff

0:53:590:54:02

to take on the new business.

0:54:020:54:04

How are you going to drum up the business?

0:54:040:54:06

Going round to the estate agents and doing exactly what I did in Peterborough.

0:54:060:54:09

If I can do it there, I can replicate it in another city.

0:54:090:54:12

Here I've got a big issue.

0:54:120:54:14

-You've got my name associated with this proposed business, OK?

-Mm-hm.

0:54:140:54:18

Regretfully, the plumber market is known for, well,

0:54:180:54:23

sorry to say, cowboys, OK?

0:54:230:54:26

I don't want to appear on Anne Robinson's television programme

0:54:260:54:30

or get a phone call from her, 12 o'clock at night,

0:54:300:54:33

asking me to comment about a bad installation that was done

0:54:330:54:36

in a company in which I am an investor.

0:54:360:54:40

I think that's down to whether you believe in me

0:54:400:54:42

-enough to be able to...

-Exactly.

0:54:420:54:43

-Exactly, but...

-..to not let that happen and to not let you down, in a sense.

0:54:430:54:47

And just to let you know also, just one more quick thing,

0:54:470:54:50

if you think it's small-time, I don't know exactly how much

0:54:500:54:53

money you want me to make, but there is that plumbing and heating company

0:54:530:54:56

in London that now currently turn over £14 million.

0:54:560:54:58

That guy was a plumber that came from the same

0:54:580:55:01

sort of background as me, so there is big money.

0:55:010:55:03

I don't know exactly what you want,

0:55:030:55:05

-if that's big enough for you or not...

-That'll do for a start, yeah.

0:55:050:55:08

I am going to have a very, very important chat with Karren

0:55:080:55:13

and Claude, and then you're going to come back in here and I'm going

0:55:130:55:17

to make my mind up which one of you is going to be my business partner.

0:55:170:55:22

It's very, very difficult.

0:55:330:55:35

You couldn't get a wider difference between the businesses.

0:55:350:55:38

Claude, you've been following Vana.

0:55:380:55:40

I think Vana's really coming into her own.

0:55:400:55:42

I think that she showed true leadership skills with her team

0:55:420:55:46

and the key about Vana is she knows her business inside out.

0:55:460:55:49

I think the difficulty with Vana is it's sort of a double risk.

0:55:490:55:53

First, she wants your £250,000 to prove that it's a concept

0:55:530:55:57

that people will buy into and then she'll go off

0:55:570:56:00

and get the big money that she needs to run this business.

0:56:000:56:03

But she has got something unique within her concept.

0:56:030:56:06

Joseph - I think he's a good bloke. I think he's a fine fellow.

0:56:080:56:12

I think he takes great pride in the job that he does.

0:56:120:56:14

I think he takes great pride in the fact that he's a hard worker.

0:56:140:56:17

I mean, look, Joseph is the DNA of this business. You're buying him.

0:56:170:56:21

You know, he may not be the finished article business-wise

0:56:210:56:24

but you're buying him.

0:56:240:56:26

The question is, can he retain the DNA whilst he builds the company?

0:56:260:56:31

I think he will need a watchful eye.

0:56:310:56:34

Tough one. Tough one.

0:56:340:56:36

PHONE RINGS

0:56:360:56:37

-Yes, Lord Sugar?

-Could you send the two of them in, please?

0:56:390:56:43

'Yes, Lord Sugar.'

0:56:430:56:45

You can go through to the boardroom now.

0:56:450:56:47

First of all, here you are, 12 weeks into the process, and you've done

0:57:010:57:06

exceptionally well, whatever the outcome of today is going to be.

0:57:060:57:12

So I have here a proposition, which is technology, and I'm known

0:57:120:57:17

to be in this technology business.

0:57:170:57:19

And then I have something,

0:57:190:57:20

which is the service industry, which is a bit alien to me, I have to say.

0:57:200:57:25

Why don't you, one last time, Joseph,

0:57:250:57:28

tell me why you think you should be my business partner?

0:57:280:57:32

Lord Sugar, I once read a book that changed my life -

0:57:320:57:34

the title of the book was What You See Is What You Get.

0:57:340:57:37

I'm now sat in front of the author of that book

0:57:370:57:40

and what I'm saying to you is what you see is what you get.

0:57:400:57:43

I've got ten years' experience in this industry, I'm driven,

0:57:430:57:46

passionate, hard-working.

0:57:460:57:49

Through these last 12 weeks, I've jumped through hoops to try

0:57:490:57:52

and prove to you time and time again that I can adapt and change.

0:57:520:57:55

I do need investment, I do need mentoring, but with that

0:57:550:57:58

combination, I will make £1 million within five years -

0:57:580:58:01

there's no doubt about that -

0:58:010:58:03

and I hope you can see me as a person and I hope you buy into me.

0:58:030:58:07

Hm. So, Vana, same question -

0:58:070:58:11

why should you be my business partner?

0:58:110:58:14

I think you've seen my performance in this process.

0:58:140:58:17

You've seen how I manage people,

0:58:170:58:18

you've seen how I operate in the tasks, you've heard from Claude

0:58:180:58:21

and Karren how I operate in the business setting.

0:58:210:58:24

And I will make sure that we generate revenues

0:58:240:58:27

and generate profits.

0:58:270:58:29

And, yes, I will need to raise further capital,

0:58:290:58:32

but you would prefer to have a small piece of a bigger pie

0:58:320:58:37

than a bigger piece of a smaller pie, and my business will make

0:58:370:58:40

a bigger impact on the world than Joseph's business will.

0:58:400:58:44

This app has potential to have a much bigger impact

0:58:440:58:46

on a much larger scale.

0:58:460:58:47

Your clients make £40 a month registration fee.

0:58:470:58:51

We make £50 an hour on a callout fee.

0:58:510:58:54

Just because it's not global, we can make a lot of money in this country.

0:58:540:58:57

Lord Sugar, you're going to invest your £250,000

0:58:570:58:59

and it's going to evaporate. There's no way it's going to take off...

0:58:590:59:03

Lord Sugar, I have contacts in the industry that I'm going in.

0:59:030:59:06

I'm not going in here blind.

0:59:060:59:08

I have experience building websites.

0:59:080:59:11

I am able to engage with investors and I am able to sell this product.

0:59:110:59:16

-Hm. It's...

-Could I say one more quick thing?

-Yeah.

0:59:160:59:19

Just very quickly, I know you really like technology and that's why

0:59:190:59:22

I tried to picture about the smart technology yesterday.

0:59:220:59:25

I think me and you could put smart technology into our industry,

0:59:250:59:28

pioneer it and we could be the next big players

0:59:280:59:31

in the smart technology in our industry.

0:59:310:59:33

Look, I know this must be agonising for you,

0:59:340:59:37

but I'm going to make a decision now.

0:59:370:59:39

Joseph, yeah, you're right, what you see is what you get.

0:59:410:59:45

I think I can see what I would get in you

0:59:450:59:48

and you certainly impressed Claude and Karren over the past 12 weeks.

0:59:480:59:53

But the service industry is one which, well, to be honest with you,

0:59:530:59:57

I've never had anything to do with whatsoever.

0:59:571:00:00

But I know it can be lucrative.

1:00:001:00:02

Vana, you are a very, very, very clever lady -

1:00:041:00:09

there is no question of that.

1:00:091:00:10

You've adapted very well. You've understood thing well. You get it.

1:00:101:00:14

I like technology, I love technology,

1:00:161:00:18

that's what I've done all of my business life,

1:00:181:00:20

and old habits die hard.

1:00:201:00:24

Technology has been my best friend for over 50 years...

1:00:311:00:37

..but maybe it's time to make new friends.

1:00:401:00:44

And so, Joseph...

1:00:441:00:47

you are going to be my business partner.

1:00:471:00:50

Thank you.

1:00:501:00:52

Thank you, Lord Sugar. It means the world to me.

1:00:521:00:54

I'm not going to let you down.

1:00:541:00:55

-Really appreciate it.

-Congratulations.

1:00:551:00:57

Thank you very much.

1:00:571:00:58

So, very well done.

1:01:001:01:01

Thanks a lot. Off you go.

1:01:011:01:03

Thank you.

1:01:031:01:04

From task one, I think he showed a certain calibre,

1:01:161:01:19

a certain entrepreneurial flair,

1:01:191:01:21

-that I think you don't see too often in a young man.

-Yeah.

1:01:211:01:24

It was a tough one, but you know what?

1:01:241:01:26

Joseph, my money, my help - I think he can go far.

1:01:261:01:29

Yes!

1:01:321:01:33

Come on!

1:01:331:01:34

Come on!

1:01:401:01:42

I can't believe I'm Lord Sugar's business partner.

1:01:421:01:44

I'm ready to work so, so hard.

1:01:441:01:46

Since the day I was expelled from school,

1:01:461:01:48

I always knew that I was going to do something big in my life.

1:01:481:01:51

I'm come such a long way.

1:01:511:01:53

I can finally now say that I'm proud of myself,

1:01:531:01:55

I feel that I've achieved something big in my life,

1:01:551:01:57

and I look forward to doing some amazing things

1:01:571:01:59

with Lord Sugar in the future.

1:01:591:02:01

18 candidates...

1:02:041:02:06

one investment.

1:02:061:02:08

Lord Sugar's search for a new business partner is over.

1:02:081:02:14

APPLAUSE

1:02:141:02:16

We have a winner. Lord Sugar has chosen his next business partner,

1:02:211:02:25

which means I can say, "Good evening, I'm Jack Dee.

1:02:251:02:28

"Welcome to The Apprentice - You're Hired."

1:02:281:02:30

There was a tense moment tonight as, after 12 gruelling weeks,

1:02:301:02:33

it looked like Lord Sugar had suddenly

1:02:331:02:34

decided on a controversial way of choosing the winner.

1:02:341:02:37

-Vana, heads or tails?

-Heads.

1:02:371:02:40

Meanwhile, chatting away in the car,

1:02:411:02:43

Charleine got a frankly worrying response from Ruth.

1:02:431:02:46

Really pleased to be on Vana's team.

1:02:461:02:48

She's very switched on, very well-educated person -

1:02:481:02:51

she'll know what she'll want to do.

1:02:511:02:53

We are just vessels of Vana.

1:02:531:02:55

Right, OK. Stop the car, please, I want to get out.

1:02:571:03:00

And, of course, Mergim auditioned for EastEnders.

1:03:001:03:05

Mergim, the fire's not working.

1:03:051:03:07

Neither...is...the...bath.

1:03:071:03:09

Yeah, look out, Eddie Redmayne, there's a new kid in town.

1:03:101:03:14

Joining me on the panel for tonight's final,

1:03:141:03:16

we have an embarrassment of riches.

1:03:161:03:18

Internationally renowned business advisor Allyson Stewart-Allen,

1:03:181:03:21

bestselling author and columnist Grace Dent

1:03:211:03:23

and, enough of the riches, is time for the embarrassment -

1:03:231:03:26

it's Romesh Ranganathan.

1:03:261:03:27

Welcome to You're Hired. APPLAUSE

1:03:271:03:30

So, our runner-up made it all the way to the final

1:03:331:03:37

but, in the end, it was, "Close, but no Su-gar."

1:03:371:03:41

LAUGHTER AND GROANS

1:03:411:03:42

I honestly have no idea how that pun made it through to the final.

1:03:441:03:48

Technology has been my best friend for over 50 years...

1:03:501:03:56

..but maybe it's time to make new friends.

1:03:591:04:02

And so, Joseph, you are going to be my business partner.

1:04:021:04:09

Thank you.

1:04:091:04:10

Thank you, Lord Sugar. It means the world to me.

1:04:101:04:12

I'm not going to let you down.

1:04:121:04:15

-Congratulations.

-Thank you very much.

1:04:151:04:18

Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the runner-up

1:04:191:04:22

of The Apprentice 2015 - Vana Koutsomitis.

1:04:221:04:26

AUDIENCE CHEERS

1:04:261:04:28

-Oh, Vana!

-Hi!

1:04:361:04:37

So good to have you here.

1:04:371:04:40

And what a popular candidate you've been - you can tell already.

1:04:401:04:44

I'm very happy to be here.

1:04:441:04:46

You know what? Congratulations for getting so far.

1:04:461:04:48

It must have been a tough choice, in the end.

1:04:481:04:50

If only there was some kind of gaming app,

1:04:501:04:52

where Lord Sugar could have been able to know

1:04:521:04:54

who he's best matched to, do you think?

1:04:541:04:57

I mean, it was a very close-run thing, we know that.

1:04:571:04:59

You may not have come away with an investment,

1:04:591:05:02

but you've gained a lot doing this process, surely?

1:05:021:05:05

Yeah, and I think, you know, it's all about the match,

1:05:051:05:07

so, if you make the right match,

1:05:071:05:08

if you and your investor feel that you're compatible,

1:05:081:05:12

and you feel that you have the same vision of the future,

1:05:121:05:15

and you have the same risk appetite, then it works really well.

1:05:151:05:18

But if you don't feel that way,

1:05:181:05:19

then it's kind of better to go your separate ways.

1:05:191:05:21

Did you have a lot of fun doing it?

1:05:211:05:23

-I had a lot of fun.

-You had fun.

1:05:231:05:25

I learned so much, so it's been great.

1:05:251:05:27

Vana, one thing want to know - in the house,

1:05:271:05:29

why do all the girls do their hair on the landing?

1:05:291:05:32

-So...

-What's that about?

1:05:341:05:35

-It's a huge house!

-Well, I'm not used to it,

1:05:351:05:37

but in the UK you can't plug in your blow-dryers

1:05:371:05:40

or hair curlers in the bathroom.

1:05:401:05:42

In the US, we can, so this is, like, new to me.

1:05:421:05:44

So, we had to sit in this special little area with a little mirror

1:05:441:05:47

and do... We actually had to stack up,

1:05:471:05:49

so I would have to go on the floor cos I was taller than Charleine,

1:05:491:05:51

and then Charleine would go behind me,

1:05:511:05:53

and we would, like, simultaneously do our hair.

1:05:531:05:55

It took coordination.

1:05:551:05:56

Sorry about our electrics in this country, anyway.

1:05:561:05:59

No... Nothing... It's actually safer, it's actually safer.

1:05:591:06:02

OK, that's good to know.

1:06:021:06:03

-Yeah.

-At least we've got health and safety on our side.

1:06:031:06:06

Romesh, did you have Vana down as a finalist right from the beginning?

1:06:061:06:09

No.

1:06:091:06:11

LAUGHTER

1:06:111:06:12

Not that I thought you were bad or anything,

1:06:121:06:14

but, you know, you seemed to have the skills,

1:06:141:06:16

particularly when it came to where you had to go

1:06:161:06:19

and buy the items - I thought you had a bit of a wobble there.

1:06:191:06:23

-That was a tough one for me.

-Yeah, I mean, especially...

1:06:231:06:26

-The cheese, really, like...

-OK.

1:06:261:06:28

It really outfoxed you, didn't it?

1:06:281:06:30

You were sort of going, "Isn't all cheese whole?" It was...

1:06:301:06:33

Yeah, but in fairness, where Vana comes from, cheese comes in aerosols,

1:06:331:06:37

-so...

-Exactly.

1:06:371:06:39

-You weren't to know, were you?

-Exactly. I was just really confused.

1:06:391:06:42

But having said that, as the process went on, as each task went by,

1:06:421:06:48

you just sort of looked stronger

1:06:481:06:50

and stronger throughout the whole process.

1:06:501:06:52

So, no, I didn't have you pegged as a finalist from the beginning,

1:06:521:06:54

-but your qualities shone through very quickly.

-Thank you.

1:06:541:06:57

Well, you might have put together a fantastic pitch

1:06:571:06:59

but, in the end, it wasn't quite enough.

1:06:591:07:01

Let's just have a look at why.

1:07:011:07:04

Vana, you really need to prove to me that there is a

1:07:041:07:06

market out there for your dating business.

1:07:061:07:09

So, essentially, it's an online dating app.

1:07:091:07:11

It's about playing games

1:07:111:07:13

in order to figure out who you should be matched with.

1:07:131:07:15

Is this possible with £250,000?

1:07:151:07:19

'I think it's possible.'

1:07:191:07:21

I think there's room for something new.

1:07:211:07:24

I'm introducing Date Play.

1:07:241:07:27

'It's a match!'

1:07:271:07:30

'Date Play -

1:07:301:07:31

'date while you play.'

1:07:311:07:34

I'd invest in her as a person.

1:07:341:07:36

In terms of the idea, I think she's going to need a bit more help.

1:07:361:07:38

This £250,000 is really to prove the model works.

1:07:381:07:45

Yes, I will need to raise further capital,

1:07:451:07:49

but you would prefer to have a small piece of a bigger pie

1:07:491:07:53

than a bigger piece of a smaller pie.

1:07:531:07:55

Well, sadly, as we now know, it was, "Bye-bye, Miss American Pie."

1:07:561:08:00

See what I did there? That was...

1:08:001:08:02

That was as good a link as you'll ever get, I think.

1:08:021:08:06

So, Vana, your idea itself was very well-received,

1:08:061:08:08

people seemed to like it,

1:08:081:08:10

but it was the finance side of it that sort of...

1:08:101:08:13

Had you underestimated who much it was going to cost?

1:08:131:08:15

I think that I thought of this more as a seed investment,

1:08:151:08:19

and I thought of it more on the tech side of things,

1:08:191:08:21

-because that's the kind of world I have been working in recently.

-Yeah.

1:08:211:08:24

So, I actually wasn't thinking that it would just be 250,000

1:08:241:08:28

and, all of a sudden, I'd become... I'd create a million dollar company.

1:08:281:08:32

I thought it would be 250,000,

1:08:321:08:34

then another round of investment, and then a 50 million company.

1:08:341:08:39

Grace, what impressed you about Vana?

1:08:391:08:40

You are clever and capable, and likeable,

1:08:401:08:44

and I think it shone through.

1:08:441:08:46

I think you are someone that can be trusted to get things done.

1:08:461:08:49

And whether it's selling houses or making sure a cake gets made,

1:08:491:08:52

there's a lot to like in you.

1:08:521:08:55

-Did you like the idea of this dating app?

-Yeah.

1:08:551:08:58

I mean, I was thrilled to see someone bring an app

1:08:581:09:01

to the table this time.

1:09:011:09:02

I've been kind of waiting for this to come, you know,

1:09:021:09:05

to be more of a fixture on The Apprentice.

1:09:051:09:08

My slight issue with it was that, however it goes,

1:09:081:09:11

you always end up going out with a gamer. Isn't that the problem?

1:09:111:09:14

-No!

-How long do you have to go out with them before you say,

1:09:141:09:16

"Look, I'm not really into Warhammer, I just wanted a girlfriend"?

1:09:161:09:19

You know, if you're on the Tube in the mornings,

1:09:191:09:21

you notice that everyone is playing Candy Crush.

1:09:211:09:24

I mean, even your grandma plays Candy Crush,

1:09:241:09:26

so it's not necessarily gamers any more. Now it's mainstream.

1:09:261:09:29

-OK, that's...and are you still going to develop the idea?

-Yeah.

1:09:291:09:33

I'm really excited about it and I really believe in the idea.

1:09:331:09:35

Oh, good. Good for you.

1:09:351:09:37

Allyson, do you detect there's a particular American style

1:09:371:09:41

that Vana has brought to the process?

1:09:411:09:42

I do. I think, you know, one of the things we do extremely well

1:09:421:09:47

is embrace anything new, and it's part of our culture,

1:09:471:09:50

and the fact that Vana positioned this as,

1:09:501:09:52

"This is new, therefore exciting,"

1:09:521:09:54

implies that therefore it's better -

1:09:541:09:56

and that works extremely well in the US.

1:09:561:09:58

This side of the Atlantic, however, people are a little more sceptical.

1:09:581:10:01

It takes a little more convincing to get people to like new things.

1:10:011:10:05

-Yeah.

-So...but I wouldn't lose that enthusiasm

1:10:051:10:08

and I wouldn't lose that positioning.

1:10:081:10:10

-I think you did a fantastic job.

-Thank you.

1:10:101:10:12

Do you feel, over the process, you've changed your approach to business -

1:10:121:10:15

from being in the UK, or just from what you've learned?

1:10:151:10:18

I think I changed my approach to business

1:10:181:10:21

because, at the beginning, I kind of came in there being, like,

1:10:211:10:24

"I really want to do it and I'm going to make everyone know it."

1:10:241:10:27

-Mm-hm.

-And then eventually I started realising

1:10:271:10:29

that that wasn't really the style here

1:10:291:10:30

and it was more appropriate to kind of, like...

1:10:301:10:32

Even if you really want to do something,

1:10:321:10:34

pretend that you don't, really,

1:10:341:10:36

because then people will be, like, more open to the idea.

1:10:361:10:39

-So, that's your summary...

-That's what I learned.

1:10:391:10:41

..of being in Britain, really, isn't it?

1:10:411:10:43

Lose the enthusiasm, you might get somewhere.

1:10:431:10:46

LAUGHTER

1:10:461:10:48

More than any other candidate, though,

1:10:491:10:51

you've shown that you would be at home doing business

1:10:511:10:54

anywhere in the world.

1:10:541:10:55

Let's have a look at this.

1:10:551:10:56

I was born and bred in New York City,

1:10:571:10:59

and that has taught me that you have to be both street smart

1:10:591:11:02

and charismatic in order to be a good leader.

1:11:021:11:04

I speak French

1:11:041:11:05

and that will be a tool we can use quite well on the ground there.

1:11:051:11:08

-Bonjour.

-Bonjour.

1:11:081:11:10

-Est-ce que vous parlez anglais?

-Little bit.

1:11:101:11:12

-We're four nice girls...

-Yes!

-..coming from the UK.

1:11:121:11:15

-Seven for 45.

-OK.

1:11:151:11:18

45 euros for seven crystal glasses -

1:11:181:11:20

that's gotta be a steal in anyone's book.

1:11:201:11:23

You did do a good deal.

1:11:271:11:28

My parents are actually architects in New York, so I'm...

1:11:281:11:31

-Oh, so it's an easy conversation!

-Yeah, yeah.

1:11:311:11:33

Where are you from, by the way? Are you Italian?

1:11:331:11:35

From Brazil!

1:11:351:11:36

My parents have a three-bedroom in New York

1:11:361:11:38

and they're architects, so I know what the flow will be like.

1:11:381:11:41

-Thank you.

-Thank you.

-Thank you!

-Take care.

-Bye.

1:11:411:11:44

So, Vana, you were born in New York

1:11:491:11:51

and you went to university in Beijing.

1:11:511:11:54

So, actually, it was Shanghai. I'm half Colombian, half Greek.

1:11:541:11:57

My mother's Colombian, father's Greek

1:11:571:11:59

and grew up in New York, but studied abroad quite a bit,

1:11:591:12:01

so I studied in Shanghai and in Paris and in Madrid.

1:12:011:12:05

Cos you speak a lot of languages, we found out.

1:12:051:12:06

But there was one language that really struggled with, wasn't there?

1:12:061:12:09

-Let's just remind ourselves what that was.

-Oh...

1:12:091:12:12

I'm going to be fluent in Mancunian.

1:12:121:12:13

It's like, "Manchestarrr."

1:12:131:12:15

-"Manchestarrr," like...

-Manchestarrr...

1:12:151:12:18

Manche... Give it... You were nearly there. Have another try.

1:12:191:12:21

-So, I've been practising...

-Yeah?

1:12:211:12:23

And I'd say, "I love Man-ches-TA."

1:12:231:12:26

-LAUGHTER

-Is it better?

1:12:261:12:28

-Is that Mandarin?

-It sounded...

1:12:281:12:30

It sounded a little bit like my mum, actually.

1:12:301:12:34

You've got your family here, you said earlier?

1:12:341:12:37

-Yes, I have.

-Who've you got here?

1:12:371:12:38

I have my boyfriend, Joris,

1:12:381:12:40

my mom, Maria, and my sister Alexandra.

1:12:401:12:42

Hello! We want to know, firstly, how you met your boyfriend.

1:12:421:12:45

-I met him...

-LAUGHTER

1:12:451:12:47

I, regretfully, didn't meet him online.

1:12:471:12:49

-Yeah?

-I met him at Oxford on our MBA programme.

-OK.

-Yeah.

1:12:491:12:53

-Welcome.

-Alexandra, what was Vana like as a sister?

1:12:531:12:56

Was she always entrepreneurial?

1:12:561:12:58

I tell the story all the time about how she would take my toys

1:12:581:13:02

from the apartment and go downstairs,

1:13:021:13:04

and sell them on the street.

1:13:041:13:05

LAUGHTER

1:13:051:13:06

You must, as a family, you must be very proud of her now.

1:13:061:13:09

-Yeah.

-Yeah.

-Amazing.

1:13:091:13:10

Now, throughout the evening,

1:13:101:13:12

we'll be presenting The Apprentice Awards -

1:13:121:13:14

known in the industry as the Sugars - to various candidates.

1:13:141:13:17

They're sitting up there, in the audience,

1:13:171:13:19

and let's hear about the first award.

1:13:191:13:21

And the nominations are...

1:13:271:13:28

..Ruth, for losing her shoe, but not her composure...

1:13:301:13:34

Ooh!

1:13:341:13:36

Lost a shoe. I lost my shoe! Keep going, keep going!

1:13:361:13:40

..Mergim, for trying to sell fish to a vegan restaurant...

1:13:401:13:45

I want to offer you a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

1:13:451:13:48

The fish.

1:13:481:13:50

Um, first thing...

1:13:501:13:51

That we are a vegan restaurant.

1:13:511:13:53

Is there anything I can do to convince you at all?

1:13:531:13:56

No. Thank you.

1:13:561:13:58

..Gary, for refusing to give up on his dream of cheaper cod...

1:13:581:14:01

We're looking at 15 kilos.

1:14:011:14:03

-15 - you've got to do us better than that.

-Gary!

1:14:031:14:05

-Can you...?

-8?

-Gary!

1:14:051:14:07

..and Gary, for refusing to give up on his bid

1:14:081:14:11

to climb a four-foot fence.

1:14:111:14:14

I'm stuck!

1:14:141:14:16

Let's go!

1:14:161:14:17

APPLAUSE

1:14:201:14:21

Vana, would you do us the honours and let us know who the winner is?

1:14:211:14:26

And the winner is...

1:14:261:14:28

-Mergim!

-Mergim! AUDIENCE CHEERS

1:14:281:14:31

Romesh will make the presentation.

1:14:311:14:34

-Get in there!

-Excuse me.

1:14:341:14:35

Excuse me.

1:14:351:14:37

Excuse me.

1:14:371:14:38

There we go.

1:14:381:14:40

-Mergim.

-Yes.

-Congratulations.

1:14:421:14:45

-Thank you.

-How do you feel?

1:14:451:14:46

Oh, it's just an honour. Honestly, like...

1:14:461:14:48

I never thought this day would ever happen.

1:14:481:14:50

-It really is, like...

-You won something!

1:14:501:14:52

Yeah, I've actually won something in my life!

1:14:521:14:54

-BRETT:

-You might be able to put it on a shelf, now.

-Yeah!

1:14:541:14:56

LAUGHTER

1:14:561:14:57

I'll bring you round to sort it out, yeah?

1:14:571:14:59

Yeah, it's literally, like,

1:14:591:15:01

I think it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,

1:15:011:15:03

and in life you've got to try the impossible.

1:15:031:15:05

-OK, don't build up your part.

-Congratulations, Mergim!

1:15:051:15:08

So, now, Vana,

1:15:131:15:14

I don't want to denigrate your business skills at all,

1:15:141:15:17

but it would seem that you had a bit of an unfair advantage

1:15:171:15:19

all the way through the process.

1:15:191:15:21

Is it true you have - how shall we put it -

1:15:211:15:23

a psychic side to you?

1:15:231:15:25

I wouldn't say it's a psychic side.

1:15:251:15:27

-I think I just like using astrology to match people...

-Mm-hm.

1:15:271:15:30

..and it's something that I get a lot of crap for.

1:15:301:15:33

People say, "Ugh, that's so silly.

1:15:331:15:35

"You're so educated, how could you believe in that?"

1:15:351:15:37

But it's worked for me, so I stand by my beliefs.

1:15:371:15:40

So, you can tell when you meet people what their star sign is?

1:15:401:15:43

Yeah, and I can ask them a few questions

1:15:431:15:44

and figure out quite easily.

1:15:441:15:46

Well, I'm normally fairly sceptical about that kind of thing,

1:15:461:15:48

but have a look at this.

1:15:481:15:51

X-FILES THEME PLAYS

1:15:511:15:52

Vana, she's a bit of a psychic.

1:15:521:15:54

She's into her dating scene, she's all about the star signs.

1:15:541:15:58

Everything with Vana is star signs -

1:15:581:16:00

the first thing is she tries and guesses.

1:16:001:16:03

The crazy thing about Vana,

1:16:031:16:04

and I think what gives credibility to the star sign thing is,

1:16:041:16:07

she will guess people's star signs

1:16:071:16:10

without having asked them a single question.

1:16:101:16:12

It's very interesting because she often gets it right.

1:16:121:16:15

I do think she is a bit psychic, in a way.

1:16:151:16:16

LAUGHTER

1:16:191:16:20

-I like it.

-I like that.

1:16:281:16:29

Yeah.

1:16:311:16:32

-Ooh, that was pretty spooky, wasn't it?

-Spooky!

1:16:341:16:36

Tell me, in your premonition, did you win The Apprentice,

1:16:361:16:39

or were you runner-up still?

1:16:391:16:40

-Actually, I had a dream that I was runner-up...

-Did you?

1:16:401:16:43

..and I know that sounds crazy, but it actually happened.

1:16:431:16:45

Grace - mysticism, star signs, astrology - are you into all that?

1:16:451:16:49

-No, it's rubbish.

-LAUGHTER

1:16:491:16:51

No, well, it kind of is,

1:16:511:16:52

but I do know that lots of people really do love it -

1:16:521:16:56

and it's also very lucrative, so maybe you could move into that,

1:16:561:17:01

-because some of the most...

-No.

-..profitable journalists

1:17:011:17:04

are the ones that write the astrology columns.

1:17:041:17:07

-But...

-It's true!

-Those are the most profitable?

1:17:071:17:09

Yeah. And they do the phone lines,

1:17:091:17:11

and they have people like Vana ring up...

1:17:111:17:12

-Oh, I know about the phone lines.

-You know what I mean?

1:17:121:17:15

-There's a serious point to this, Allyson, isn't there?

-Mm.

1:17:151:17:17

-There's intuition, isn't there?

-Absolutely.

1:17:171:17:19

You go on a gut feeling sometimes in business - you go on a hunch.

1:17:191:17:22

Yes, and, in fact, the best leaders, and the best businesses,

1:17:221:17:25

are those that have been founded on people that had that intuition

1:17:251:17:28

and stuck with it, even when people said,

1:17:281:17:31

"Oh, that's crazy. That's superstition."

1:17:311:17:33

Think about the bagless vacuum cleaner,

1:17:331:17:35

think about the portable music players -

1:17:351:17:37

those were really from, you know,

1:17:371:17:40

the leaders thinking, "This is the right thing to do.

1:17:401:17:43

"I believe the market wants this."

1:17:431:17:45

-So, you know, it pays a lot of money when you get it right.

-Yeah, sure.

1:17:451:17:48

OK, well, as you know, throughout the series,

1:17:481:17:51

Romesh has been investigating what it might be like to be a candidate,

1:17:511:17:55

so what have you been looking at this week, Romesh?

1:17:551:17:57

Well, obviously I had a go at all of the tasks

1:17:571:17:59

and the one thing I haven't done

1:17:591:18:01

is see what it's like to be on the losing team.

1:18:011:18:03

Obviously that's outside of my realm of experience.

1:18:031:18:06

-LAUGHTER

-What I decided to do was simulate

1:18:061:18:08

what it would be like to be on the losing team

1:18:081:18:10

and I took a visit to the losers' cafe.

1:18:101:18:12

Oh, great. Let's have a look.

1:18:121:18:14

Excuse me, could I get a skinny soya macchiato, please?

1:18:141:18:18

I guess that's a no, then.

1:18:221:18:24

Who's responsible for the failure of this task?

1:18:241:18:27

As project manager for the losing task,

1:18:291:18:30

I've now got to make the decision of who to take back

1:18:301:18:33

into the boardroom with me.

1:18:331:18:34

Gary, I'm taking you back to the boardroom.

1:18:341:18:36

I've got no choice. I've got to take somebody back.

1:18:361:18:38

And you know what, Charleine? You're coming, too.

1:18:381:18:40

They're not responsible for the failure of this task,

1:18:401:18:43

but I'd just quite like to see them get fired.

1:18:431:18:45

Richard, why don't you just piss off, mate?

1:18:451:18:47

Joseph, where are you going?

1:18:471:18:50

-Well, good morning.

-Good morning, Lord Sugar.

1:19:031:19:05

Let's get going, then.

1:19:051:19:07

APPLAUSE

1:19:071:19:09

Yeah, well, I know who'd I'd fire - but let's wait and see what happens.

1:19:121:19:15

In the meantime, I'm pleased to say that we have the proprietor

1:19:151:19:19

of the Bridge Cafe with us tonight.

1:19:191:19:21

Please welcome Frank Marcangelo. Here he is.

1:19:211:19:23

APPLAUSE

1:19:231:19:25

How are you, Frank?

1:19:251:19:26

Frank, does it bother you that your cafe

1:19:301:19:33

is now known as the "Loser Cafe"?

1:19:331:19:35

No, not really. It's actually increased the business a lot.

1:19:351:19:38

-LAUGHTER Has it?

-I bet it has!

1:19:381:19:40

-People love to come there.

-Do they?

1:19:401:19:41

They see you on The Apprentice, they want to come along?

1:19:411:19:43

-Yeah, they come from all over the place.

-Do they?

1:19:431:19:46

We've even had people from Australia, Hong Kong.

1:19:461:19:48

It's ridiculous, really, but it's true.

1:19:481:19:50

And they've all said, "We've seen The Apprentice..."

1:19:501:19:52

-Yeah, they love it.

-Cos I've got to say,

1:19:521:19:54

there's nothing else appeals about it, to me, than...

1:19:541:19:56

HE LAUGHS

1:19:561:19:58

ROMESH CRACKS UP

1:19:581:19:59

And do they all come in and sit round with plastic cups and have a row?

1:20:011:20:06

We only use plastic cups for The Apprentice, actually.

1:20:061:20:09

We have got china cups, really.

1:20:091:20:10

AUDIENCE GROANS No, no, no, no.

1:20:101:20:13

-Yeah.

-Since we're having a little dig at me.

1:20:131:20:16

Well, listen, thanks very much for taking the time and coming down.

1:20:161:20:19

-My pleasure.

-Let's hear it for Frank Marcangelo.

1:20:191:20:21

APPLAUSE

1:20:211:20:23

So that brings me to your catering skills, Vana.

1:20:231:20:28

In particular, the very delicious looking dehydrated crisps

1:20:281:20:32

that you made in the...

1:20:321:20:34

Yeah, OK. Those actually tasted really good!

1:20:341:20:38

I know you won't believe it, but...

1:20:381:20:40

Until you tipped a litre of oil all over them!

1:20:401:20:42

LAUGHTER

1:20:421:20:43

And then you dumped Richard in it, by blaming the packaging,

1:20:431:20:46

for which we love you all the more.

1:20:461:20:48

-But you got on quite well with Richard, didn't you?

-Yes.

1:20:501:20:53

I think Richard was actually one of the most talented candidates

1:20:531:20:56

when it came to marketing, creativity.

1:20:561:20:58

He knew how to pitch, and he knew how to make things happen

1:20:581:21:02

when it came to branding, so he was on his own.

1:21:021:21:04

I blamed him because I genuinely thought

1:21:041:21:06

that he should have listened to me,

1:21:061:21:07

and I wanted to get back at him for the sous slave incident,

1:21:071:21:10

where he tried to basically make me his slave in the kitchen.

1:21:101:21:14

-Yes, for the children's party, making the cake?

-Yeah.

1:21:141:21:17

He wanted to make me the sous slave

1:21:171:21:18

by having me do all the cutting of the bread,

1:21:181:21:20

then he wouldn't let me touch the cake, and it was like,

1:21:201:21:23

-I knew how to fix the cake. He wouldn't let me touch it.

-Yeah.

1:21:231:21:25

But you beasted him, didn't you, because in the end,

1:21:251:21:28

-he was bowing to you by the end of the property series.

-Exactly.

1:21:281:21:30

So yeah, good for you.

1:21:301:21:32

-Richard, how are you? Are you all right?

-I'm very good, thank you.

1:21:321:21:34

Vana chose you to be in her team,

1:21:341:21:37

Selina chose you to be in her team for the children's party.

1:21:371:21:39

-Why do you think that was?

-Because I'm amazing, obviously!

1:21:391:21:42

-LAUGHTER

-Oh, here we go!

1:21:421:21:44

Ah, it's good to see you haven't changed, Richard.

1:21:441:21:47

Exactly! Nothing changes here!

1:21:471:21:48

You did manage the impossible tonight.

1:21:481:21:50

You got Richard and Charleine to act as loving couple, didn't you?

1:21:501:21:54

Did that take some persuading?

1:21:541:21:55

By the end of the process, I was just, like, taskmaster.

1:21:551:21:59

I was like, "You're doing this.

1:21:591:22:01

"You're acting like you're in love, we're going to make this happen,"

1:22:011:22:04

because there was no time or room for error.

1:22:041:22:06

Yeah, the lovely Ruth as well. Ruth is here. Ruth.

1:22:061:22:09

And you were a vessel of Vana,

1:22:091:22:11

-weren't you?

-A vessel of Vana. Absolutely, yeah!

1:22:111:22:14

-Tell me, were Charleine and Richard explosive enough?

-Well, they were!

1:22:141:22:19

Of course, you know, I wasn't in the process at that time,

1:22:191:22:22

so I didn't realise that these guys weren't getting on,

1:22:221:22:24

so I just thought, you know, fall in love,

1:22:241:22:26

and they were like... "No!"

1:22:261:22:27

Now, as ever this year,

1:22:271:22:29

the candidates' every move was monitored by Lord Sugar's aides,

1:22:291:22:32

who reported their progress back to him.

1:22:321:22:35

As you'd expect, Claude and Karren were not easily impressed.

1:22:351:22:38

I don't know why you're laughing.

1:22:381:22:40

I think we're in trouble with this lot.

1:22:401:22:42

# Uh-oh, we're in trouble... #

1:22:421:22:44

You've got to engage your brain at some point.

1:22:441:22:46

They don't know the first thing about actually how honey is made.

1:22:461:22:49

You said that people over the age of 45 don't understand anything new.

1:22:491:22:53

No, I don't think I said they don't understand anything new.

1:22:531:22:55

Doesn't matter what you meant by it, it was very insulting.

1:22:551:22:58

They're all lambs to the slaughter,

1:22:581:23:00

because none of them seem capable of coming to a decision.

1:23:001:23:02

You wouldn't want to go into an events business with him,

1:23:021:23:05

having watched that party, I can assure you. It was bad.

1:23:051:23:08

You two were impressive.

1:23:081:23:10

You two, not so much.

1:23:101:23:11

What a complete waste of time!

1:23:111:23:14

-Mergim?

-Yes?

1:23:141:23:15

-Do you know what you're doing?

-Yes. Screwing a nail.

1:23:151:23:18

"Screwing a nail"?

1:23:201:23:21

I think I'm going to have to go down and lie down for a while,

1:23:221:23:25

and put a cold towel on my head.

1:23:251:23:27

Sam should be so embarrassed about this.

1:23:271:23:30

She just didn't put her back into it.

1:23:301:23:31

Which would you rather have, Karren -

1:23:311:23:33

someone who is very enthusiastic

1:23:331:23:34

or somebody who doesn't seem to care that much?

1:23:341:23:37

-Rather have neither.

-True.

1:23:371:23:39

Vana, you had a bit of a run-in with Karren in the boardroom.

1:23:421:23:45

She sort of told you off for giggling after the discount task.

1:23:451:23:51

Who is scarier - Karren, Claude, Lord Sugar?

1:23:511:23:54

Erm...I think they're all pretty scary in different ways.

1:23:541:23:58

So I would say that Lord Sugar is number one scariest,

1:23:581:24:02

and then I would say that his scariness is more like

1:24:021:24:04

blunt and to the point, like, you can't even speak.

1:24:041:24:07

And then I would say Karren is scary,

1:24:071:24:09

because she just gives you this look,

1:24:091:24:11

and it's like, "You're an idiot," and then Claude is scary,

1:24:111:24:14

because he will call you out for your BS so quickly,

1:24:141:24:17

and then you'll have your tail between your legs

1:24:171:24:20

and you just won't know what to do.

1:24:201:24:21

You got off to a good start with the interview with him, didn't you?

1:24:211:24:24

You just said, why don't I tell you

1:24:241:24:26

what your first question's going to be, and...

1:24:261:24:28

I was just, like, so nervous at that point

1:24:281:24:30

that I was just speaking too much,

1:24:301:24:32

and I think I should have held back, maybe sat down and said hello.

1:24:321:24:37

But at that point, I wanted to, basically, distract him

1:24:371:24:40

a little bit from maybe the weak points of my business plan.

1:24:401:24:42

Allyson, you advise businesses all over the world.

1:24:421:24:45

Is what Karren and Claude do, is it easy or harder than it looks?

1:24:451:24:49

I think it's a lot harder than it looks.

1:24:491:24:51

You have to scrutinise the numbers,

1:24:511:24:52

you have to make sure that market research has been done,

1:24:521:24:55

that you can validate that there really is demand

1:24:551:24:59

for these concepts,

1:24:591:25:00

and you also have to watch how they behave in the tasks.

1:25:001:25:03

Are they good team leaders? Is the role clear?

1:25:031:25:06

Does the team perform well?

1:25:061:25:08

So there are a lot of variables that you're watching simultaneously.

1:25:081:25:12

I don't think it's easy.

1:25:121:25:13

OK. Of course, it was Claude's debut as an aide in the show.

1:25:131:25:18

-How do you think he did, Grace?

-I love him.

1:25:181:25:21

I think he's absolutely amazing.

1:25:211:25:22

He just exudes this terrifying quality.

1:25:221:25:25

So, Romesh, we saw you earlier in your spiritual home,

1:25:261:25:29

otherwise known as The Loser Cafe. What happened next?

1:25:291:25:32

Well, I'll choose to ignore your disrespect there, Jack.

1:25:321:25:35

But, basically, I've heard so much about how daunting

1:25:351:25:38

-the boardroom is, so I decided to give it a go for myself.

-Right.

1:25:381:25:41

Well, let's have a look at that.

1:25:411:25:43

Let's get going, then.

1:25:431:25:44

Why do you think I should let you remain in this process?

1:25:451:25:49

I think I should remain in the process

1:25:491:25:51

because I'm obviously the most talented candidate.

1:25:511:25:53

I mean, I've always been an entrepreneur,

1:25:531:25:55

starting from when I was four...

1:25:551:25:57

When I was 15, yeah, I gave up on business

1:25:571:25:59

and tried to go after girls.

1:25:591:26:01

That didn't work out, so I went back to business...

1:26:011:26:03

I sold a jam sandwich to a kid for 25 pence...

1:26:031:26:05

It was about 36, 37, that I realised I didn't want to be a DJ any more,

1:26:071:26:12

but unfortunately, I had changed my name legally to DJ Banganathan...

1:26:121:26:15

-OK, look. I don't want to hear any more from you.

-Can I just say...?

1:26:151:26:18

I'm not asking for any comment.

1:26:181:26:20

You come across as a very nice chap, but I have concluded...

1:26:231:26:27

..that...

1:26:291:26:30

..with regret, you're fired.

1:26:311:26:33

Well, thank you very much for the opportunity, Lord Sugar,

1:26:351:26:37

Karren, Claude.

1:26:371:26:39

LAUGHTER

1:26:481:26:50

APPLAUSE

1:26:501:26:53

Now, it's time for another award,

1:26:531:26:55

so let's have a look at who's in the running.

1:26:551:26:57

And the nominations are...

1:27:031:27:05

Richard, for his novel way of breaking the ice.

1:27:051:27:09

Come with me and ice skate.

1:27:091:27:11

Dan, for his never-take-no- for-an-answer attitude.

1:27:131:27:18

Hello, are you interested in buying some salad?

1:27:181:27:21

I don't suppose you'd be interested in buying it at all?

1:27:211:27:23

-I haven't got my purse on me!

-OK, no worries, no worries.

1:27:231:27:26

Ruth, for her thoroughly hands-on approach.

1:27:271:27:31

Gosh, aren't you solid? Ooh, aren't you lovely?

1:27:311:27:34

And Brett, for really getting the bit between his teeth.

1:27:361:27:39

It's not warm, but it's bite proof.

1:27:391:27:42

LAUGHTER APPLAUSE

1:27:421:27:45

-And, Allyson, would you please let us know who the winner is?

-Yes.

1:27:481:27:51

The winner is...

1:27:511:27:53

Ruth.

1:27:531:27:54

APPLAUSE

1:27:541:27:57

-Sorry. Sorry again. Congratulations.

-You look like a hungry gentleman.

1:27:571:28:01

-Ooh, I tell you.

-Check out the...

1:28:011:28:02

-Fabulous. Aren't you lovely?

-Check out the gun show.

1:28:021:28:05

LAUGHTER

1:28:051:28:06

-Thank you very much.

-Sorry, mate. There we go.

1:28:061:28:09

-Ruth, how do you feel?

-Well, I feel incredible.

1:28:091:28:13

I feel validated, in terms of the way that I behaved

1:28:131:28:17

and the sales that I created.

1:28:171:28:19

-Yeah.

-It's for fishcakes, isn't it, not cat towers?

1:28:191:28:22

-Yes.

-Yeah.

-Yeah.

1:28:221:28:24

-OK. Great! I'm up for it.

-OK.

1:28:241:28:26

It's not been the best interview, Jack, but...

1:28:261:28:30

Let's give it up for Ruth anyway. Thank you.

1:28:301:28:32

APPLAUSE

1:28:321:28:34

Vana, congratulations getting so far.

1:28:391:28:41

You've really been a fantastic candidate on The Apprentice,

1:28:411:28:44

and just like on You're Fired, no-one leaves Your Hired empty-handed.

1:28:441:28:48

Now, I know you like the idea of some sort of puzzle which reveals the face

1:28:481:28:51

of the person that you've been matched with as the game progresses.

1:28:511:28:54

So, with that in mind, I've got you this.

1:28:541:28:57

It's a Lord Sugar jigsaw puzzle. There you are.

1:28:571:29:00

-What I've always wanted! Thank you!

-That's for you to take away.

1:29:001:29:03

Thank you very much, Vana.

1:29:031:29:04

APPLAUSE

1:29:041:29:07

And it's been great having you on this show.

1:29:071:29:08

Let's have a look at your highlights.

1:29:081:29:10

Just come take a look. There's no harm in that, right?

1:29:101:29:12

Vana - so academic, so well spoken. Such a nice person.

1:29:121:29:18

# Take a sip from my secret potion

1:29:181:29:20

# I'll make you fall in love... #

1:29:201:29:22

-Don't break them!

-LAUGHTER

1:29:221:29:24

You should check it out. Right over there, next to Ann Summers.

1:29:241:29:27

LAUGHTER

1:29:271:29:29

Vana, a very intelligent, switched-on, inspirational woman.

1:29:291:29:33

And someone who has a great head on her shoulders, and a good person.

1:29:331:29:38

She's a really good person.

1:29:381:29:40

I need some help with the weeding. There's too many weeds.

1:29:401:29:42

I think that a lot of single women have cats.

1:29:421:29:45

We're literally doing everything we possibly can.

1:29:461:29:50

SHE LAUGHS

1:29:501:29:52

Ladies and gentlemen, Vana Koutsomitis!

1:29:521:29:54

Thank you.

1:29:541:29:56

APPLAUSE

1:29:561:30:00

So, there's just one more candidate left to meet.

1:30:001:30:02

Technology...

1:30:031:30:05

has been my best friend for over 50 years.

1:30:051:30:10

But maybe it's time to make new friends.

1:30:131:30:15

And so, Joseph, you are going to be my business partner.

1:30:171:30:23

Thank you.

1:30:231:30:24

Thank you, Lord Sugar. It means the world to me.

1:30:241:30:26

Not going to let you down.

1:30:261:30:28

-Congratulations.

-Thank you very much.

1:30:291:30:31

Ladies and gentlemen,

1:30:351:30:36

please welcome the winner of The Apprentice 2015,

1:30:361:30:39

Joseph Valente.

1:30:391:30:40

APPLAUSE

1:30:401:30:44

Oh, look at that!

1:30:481:30:50

Standing...standing ovation. How about that, eh?

1:30:531:30:57

Thank you very much.

1:30:571:30:58

Listen, you know what, we've got a lot to get through tonight, Joseph,

1:30:581:31:01

-so no toilet breaks, nothing, right?

-We're good. No toilet breaks.

1:31:011:31:04

Has it sunk in yet? You're hired.

1:31:041:31:06

No, it's quite overwhelming, you know? It seems surreal.

1:31:061:31:09

It's absolutely incredible.

1:31:091:31:11

Lord Sugar's my inspiration and to be sitting here

1:31:111:31:14

as his business partner is amazing.

1:31:141:31:16

And also, since day one, you seem to have really enjoyed yourself,

1:31:161:31:20

I thought. Do you think you would have got a lot out of it

1:31:201:31:23

even if you hadn't won, you'd be saying the same thing?

1:31:231:31:25

Yeah, I mean, every task is a mini business masterclass.

1:31:251:31:29

You know, you get to meet so many different people, and work

1:31:291:31:32

with everybody, and you're chucked into so many crazy environments.

1:31:321:31:35

It's just fantastic. Absolutely amazing experience.

1:31:351:31:38

Well, congratulations.

1:31:381:31:39

I think it's time that we met your new business partner.

1:31:391:31:43

Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Lord Sugar.

1:31:431:31:46

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

1:31:461:31:49

Hello. All right, son?

1:31:571:31:59

Lord Sugar, a very big welcome to You're Hired.

1:32:011:32:03

Lovely to have you here.

1:32:031:32:05

Congratulations on choosing a new business partner.

1:32:051:32:07

As you said, this is a bit of a new area for you.

1:32:071:32:10

-Are you excited about branching out?

-Very much so, yes. Very much so.

1:32:101:32:14

And I'm also excited for Joseph,

1:32:141:32:17

because he is a glowing example

1:32:171:32:20

of the reason that I do this Apprentice process.

1:32:201:32:23

At the end of the day, what's good about this process,

1:32:231:32:26

and in this particular series is, you've got Joseph here

1:32:261:32:30

as a great example of what is possible.

1:32:301:32:33

He is a self-confessed naughty boy in his early days, as a young chap.

1:32:331:32:39

He got himself into a little bit of hot water.

1:32:391:32:41

Fortunately, not that serious hot water.

1:32:411:32:44

Turned his life around, decided he was going to go to work,

1:32:441:32:47

and here he is today, the well-deserved winner of

1:32:471:32:51

The Apprentice, and I look forward to him being my business partner,

1:32:511:32:54

and I'm going to give him a lot of coaching,

1:32:541:32:56

but I hope it inspires a lot of people looking in

1:32:561:33:00

to see what is possible in this world.

1:33:001:33:03

Two very strong finalists you ended up with.

1:33:031:33:05

But only one can win, sadly. Any advice for Vana?

1:33:051:33:08

Well, Vana, as everybody has seen, is a highly intelligent young lady,

1:33:081:33:13

and she's got this dating application idea.

1:33:131:33:18

I'm sure that it might have legs.

1:33:181:33:20

And... But it does need a tremendous amount of investment.

1:33:201:33:24

This process is all about £250,000. That's your lot.

1:33:241:33:29

In the business it goes, and get on with it.

1:33:291:33:33

And I think the main decision here was that

1:33:331:33:36

we couldn't do it on the 250,000.

1:33:361:33:40

OK. Well, let's have a look at how Joseph ended up the winner.

1:33:401:33:44

Joseph, you have a small-time plumbing business at the moment.

1:33:441:33:48

You're going to have to explain how you're going to grow that to

1:33:481:33:52

make it into a substantial company.

1:33:521:33:55

What I aim to do is to expand the business,

1:33:551:33:59

moving into renewable technologies.

1:33:591:34:01

With the renewable technology,

1:34:011:34:02

it's not something that's taking off in the next five years or so.

1:34:021:34:06

I'm more interested in smart technology.

1:34:061:34:08

If I've got a water pump that has four pumps,

1:34:081:34:10

and one is breaking down, I want to know that. I'm not on site.

1:34:101:34:13

Please let me introduce you to PrimeTime Plumbers.

1:34:131:34:18

Well, you know you can get the app from PrimeTime Plumbers, which

1:34:181:34:21

enables you to be able to control all your heating from your phone.

1:34:211:34:24

Lord Sugar, I once read a book that changed my life.

1:34:241:34:26

The title of the book was What You See Is What You Get.

1:34:261:34:29

I'm now sat in front of the author of that book,

1:34:291:34:32

and what I'm saying to you is, what you see is what you get.

1:34:321:34:35

APPLAUSE

1:34:371:34:40

So, Joseph, you read Lord Sugar's book.

1:34:401:34:45

Was that literally your light bulb moment,

1:34:451:34:47

-or whatever the plumbing equivalent of that is?

-Literally, yeah.

1:34:471:34:50

Was that your U-bend moment, was it?

1:34:501:34:52

It was like someone flicked the switch, you know?

1:34:521:34:55

My lovely mother over there bought me it for Christmas,

1:34:551:34:58

and I read it solid for literally three weeks,

1:34:581:35:01

and I was so inspired by that book, just to see what Lord Sugar's

1:35:011:35:04

journey was, from nothing to what he managed to achieve.

1:35:041:35:07

You know, I literally quit my job within, like, three weeks,

1:35:071:35:11

took out a 15 grand personal loan, started a business,

1:35:111:35:14

bought a van, branded it, and then just blew up from there.

1:35:141:35:19

Let's move on to your business plan pitch.

1:35:191:35:21

Because I think on day one, you were faffing about a bit,

1:35:211:35:23

you were wasting time talking about the name,

1:35:231:35:26

thinking of calling it things like... was it Enerplutuer?

1:35:261:35:29

And it didn't seem to be going anywhere.

1:35:301:35:32

But day two, you just hit the ground running. You used the focus group.

1:35:321:35:35

The pitch was amazing. What are your memories of doing that?

1:35:351:35:39

Yeah, we spent a lot of time thinking of a new name,

1:35:391:35:41

and trying to brand it,

1:35:411:35:43

and I probably did mess about a little bit rather than

1:35:431:35:45

looking at how I was going to grow the business and present it,

1:35:451:35:48

but I did want to get that right.

1:35:481:35:50

You know, my mind was a little bit clouded, but now, looking back,

1:35:501:35:52

I could probably have moved on a little bit quicker,

1:35:521:35:55

but at the same time, you want to take the right logo

1:35:551:35:57

and the right name when you're presenting something, you know?

1:35:571:36:00

I mean, Lord Sugar, the original plan was for a franchise operation,

1:36:001:36:03

wasn't it? And then Joseph adapted it,

1:36:031:36:06

and he started to focus in on the smart technology.

1:36:061:36:10

But is that what you're looking for, someone who can adapt and change?

1:36:101:36:14

Yeah, the franchise thing was a little bit difficult,

1:36:141:36:18

put it that way, and that he should concentrate on

1:36:181:36:21

building the business up first of all,

1:36:211:36:23

because you can't franchise something

1:36:231:36:25

unless you've got some renowned, successful business out there

1:36:251:36:29

for someone else to become a franchisee.

1:36:291:36:32

I mean, Allyson, Joseph, as we saw,

1:36:321:36:34

he used the focus group to mould his business, actually.

1:36:341:36:38

How important are focus groups in the real world,

1:36:381:36:41

and are they always right?

1:36:411:36:42

So, they are very important.

1:36:421:36:44

They are as right as you want them to be,

1:36:441:36:47

and what I mean by that is, you've got to listen.

1:36:471:36:50

And you have to listen through a certain lens

1:36:501:36:52

or through a certain filter

1:36:521:36:54

about whether you think that the people that have been

1:36:541:36:57

recruited truly reflect the marketplace.

1:36:571:36:59

But it's a listening exercise.

1:36:591:37:01

I would never advise a company to just launch a product or service

1:37:011:37:05

without surveying, is there demand,

1:37:051:37:08

what does it look like, what shape does it take?

1:37:081:37:11

It's critically important that you do that.

1:37:111:37:13

Because, Grace, we saw Joseph here getting the focus group to

1:37:131:37:18

film testimonials for Joseph. He was asking for business cards.

1:37:181:37:22

In your world, you must see a lot of schmoozing and networking.

1:37:221:37:25

-Has he got the moves?

-He's pretty good, though, yeah.

1:37:251:37:27

-He's very good at it.

-I think he could teach media people something.

1:37:271:37:30

-Yeah, you were very good.

-Thank you.

1:37:301:37:32

I think you could be a little bit heavy-handed, but it gets results.

1:37:321:37:35

You got all those cards. I wouldn't have done that.

1:37:351:37:38

-So, Lord Sugar, you gave Joseph the nickname Valentino.

-Yeah.

1:37:381:37:43

-Do you find him generally charming to deal with?

-I don't know yet!

1:37:431:37:47

I am, of course, as you know!

1:37:481:37:50

LAUGHTER

1:37:501:37:52

Well, charm is one thing. It helps if you've got the look as well.

1:37:521:37:57

No disrespect, but did you smarten yourself up a little bit,

1:37:571:38:00

or did you still look like a plumber with a moustache, like Super Mario?

1:38:001:38:03

# Uh-huh, uh-huh

1:38:051:38:07

# And all the girlies say I'm pretty fly... #

1:38:071:38:09

Good morning, Joseph speaking.

1:38:091:38:10

# For a white guy. #

1:38:101:38:12

I would have assumed that you, Valentino, would have gone

1:38:121:38:15

after the mirror, because you spend most of your time looking in there.

1:38:151:38:19

# Uno, dos, tres, cuatro, cinco, cinco, seis. #

1:38:221:38:25

-Does this look all right, or does it look stupid?

-Looks stupid.

1:38:261:38:29

Does it? SHE LAUGHS

1:38:291:38:31

# Give it to me, baby... #

1:38:311:38:33

AARGH!

1:38:331:38:35

Don't grow it back.

1:38:351:38:37

-Are you really Joseph?

-Am I really Joseph? Yes.

1:38:371:38:40

Oh! The new and improved Joseph.

1:38:411:38:43

So, the moustache has gone. Has it gone for ever?

1:38:451:38:47

-Are you going to grow it back?

-It's gone for ever.

1:38:471:38:49

-Gone for ever.

-It's not coming back.

1:38:491:38:51

Was that part of your game plan, to do it at the interview stage, to...?

1:38:511:38:55

I think it was an iconic moment, you know?

1:38:551:38:57

The moustache made me stand out,

1:38:571:38:58

and when I shaved it off, it was for a reason.

1:38:581:39:02

You know, I wanted to show them

1:39:021:39:04

that I'd taken the feedback on board,

1:39:041:39:06

and in certain situations, you can be judged by what you look like,

1:39:061:39:09

and I did look a little bit second-hand car salesman-like,

1:39:091:39:12

-and...

-A little bit(!)

1:39:121:39:14

LAUGHTER

1:39:141:39:16

I think I look a hell of a lot smarter without it.

1:39:161:39:18

You look like Walker off Dad's Army most of the time.

1:39:181:39:20

Actually, let's put it to the audience.

1:39:201:39:22

I'll tell you what - have you got your cards?

1:39:221:39:25

If you think Joseph was right to shave off his moustache,

1:39:251:39:28

hold up "Hired".

1:39:281:39:29

If you think he was wrong, hold up "Fired".

1:39:291:39:31

And, obviously, I think that's fairly conclusive

1:39:341:39:37

that they think you looked ridiculous for the first 10 weeks.

1:39:371:39:40

LAUGHTER

1:39:401:39:41

So, Joseph, I understand you've got your family here tonight.

1:39:411:39:44

-I've got my mum Jane and my sister Ciara.

-Hello, Mum and sister.

1:39:441:39:48

Yeah, so you must be very proud of Joseph, aren't you?

1:39:481:39:51

-Extremely proud. I can't even begin to explain.

-No, I'm sure.

1:39:511:39:55

What was he like as a little boy?

1:39:551:39:56

I reckon he was a cheeky little bugger, was he?

1:39:561:39:59

-He was, very much so, yes.

-What did he get up to?

1:39:591:40:02

Full of life, always up to something.

1:40:021:40:05

Bossing his friends around.

1:40:051:40:07

Yes, just on the go from the minute he got up in the morning

1:40:071:40:09

-till he went to bed.

-And what does Joseph's sister have to say about it?

1:40:091:40:13

Yeah, he was very, very cheeky. Very bossy.

1:40:131:40:16

But we always knew he was going to do well.

1:40:161:40:19

-He's always done really well.

-Are you glad the moustache has gone?

1:40:191:40:22

I am.

1:40:221:40:23

It's lovely to have you here. Let's hear it for Joseph's mum and sister.

1:40:231:40:28

Now, Karren said at one point that you picked your team

1:40:301:40:35

for the final task by who you liked

1:40:351:40:38

rather than who was going to be most helpful. Do you agree with that?

1:40:381:40:41

Um, I agree that I like them, they're a fantastic bunch.

1:40:411:40:45

But I picked them because Gary is fantastic at pitching

1:40:451:40:48

and he taught me a lot.

1:40:481:40:50

Brett is in the plumbing and heating industry

1:40:501:40:52

so it was great to have another expert on the team.

1:40:521:40:54

Mergim and Elle, you're just fantastic.

1:40:541:40:57

LAUGHTER

1:40:571:40:58

-Well, I know...

-Cheers, J!

1:40:581:41:01

How are you all doing? Did you enjoy your...?

1:41:011:41:03

We loved your acting debut.

1:41:031:41:05

-If I cue you in, Mergim?

-Yeah?

1:41:051:41:07

Mergim, the fire isn't working.

1:41:071:41:09

-WOODENLY:

-Neither is the bath.

1:41:091:41:11

LAUGHTER

1:41:111:41:13

It's beautiful, it's right from there, isn't it, with you?

1:41:131:41:18

Lord Sugar, I think we all enjoyed watching Mergim for various reasons.

1:41:181:41:22

But you were very impressed by him, weren't you?

1:41:221:41:25

Yeah, look, he's a great character,

1:41:251:41:28

and what I like about this series

1:41:281:41:31

is what I've already explained about Joseph and where he came from.

1:41:311:41:34

Mergim also comes from a very difficult background.

1:41:341:41:38

He was a refugee, came to this country a long time ago

1:41:381:41:44

and I believe that as a young man ended up having to

1:41:441:41:48

take over his family and look after all of his family and siblings.

1:41:481:41:53

He had about five or six jobs at any one time.

1:41:531:41:57

It's an amazing thing what he's done.

1:41:571:42:00

He came on to the process, I think, a little bit early. OK?

1:42:001:42:04

So, you know, apply again...

1:42:041:42:07

..in 12 years.

1:42:091:42:11

LAUGHTER

1:42:111:42:13

-You won't be alive by then, probably.

-I won't?

1:42:131:42:16

AUDIENCE GROAN

1:42:161:42:19

There's Mergim for you, you see.

1:42:221:42:24

It was the infamous handyman task in week six, where Mergim showed us

1:42:271:42:31

his deftness with a screwdriver.

1:42:311:42:33

But you really came into your own in that task

1:42:331:42:35

cos you were in your comfort zone, you knew what you were doing.

1:42:351:42:38

Did you feel that was like a turning point for you?

1:42:381:42:41

It was a massive turning point.

1:42:411:42:42

I think after that, people started taking me seriously

1:42:421:42:45

and I showed what I'm all about, that I know the business

1:42:451:42:49

and I can take control of a situation.

1:42:491:42:50

You know, it was great to get immunity from Lord Sugar.

1:42:501:42:53

-That was an amazing feeling.

-That was an amazing moment, wasn't it?

1:42:531:42:57

Grace, what did you make of that task?

1:42:571:42:59

That was one of my favourite parts of the whole series.

1:42:591:43:02

Watching Mergim going into places and take the value off properties.

1:43:021:43:05

It was quite comforting to know that somebody

1:43:051:43:09

is as useless as I am at doing any kind of DIY,

1:43:091:43:12

but I wouldn't try and set up a business doing it.

1:43:121:43:15

-It was wonderful to watch.

-It was. Romesh, what did you make of it?

1:43:151:43:20

I thought, Joseph, you were exceptional in that task.

1:43:201:43:24

Obviously you're doing a task that fits into what you know,

1:43:241:43:29

but actually, the way you took that task by the scruff of the neck

1:43:291:43:33

and basically led that team, I thought was impressive.

1:43:331:43:36

I was guilty as a viewer of misjudging you

1:43:361:43:39

because early on you seemed like a nice guy,

1:43:391:43:41

but I didn't really see those strengths in you.

1:43:411:43:44

Then suddenly, with that task, it was an eye-opener,

1:43:441:43:47

-you were very impressive. It was amazing.

-Thank you.

1:43:471:43:49

Joseph, your performance in the handyman task

1:43:491:43:52

obviously gave you confidence, not that you really needed it.

1:43:521:43:55

Have a look at this.

1:43:551:43:57

Joseph has a lot of confidence, you can even see it in his walk.

1:43:581:44:02

# Walk this way, talk this way

1:44:021:44:05

# Walk this way, talk this way

1:44:051:44:09

# She told me to walk this way

1:44:091:44:12

# Talk this way Just give me a kiss... #

1:44:121:44:15

Is that something you've always done, walk like that?

1:44:181:44:21

-It looks like you're in a Tarantino movie.

-That's my Apprentice walk.

1:44:211:44:24

It wasn't all plain sailing, though.

1:44:241:44:25

One of my favourite moments was when you had to deliver the good news

1:44:251:44:29

about the market research on the health snack task.

1:44:291:44:31

Let's have a look at that.

1:44:311:44:33

'What feedback have you had?'

1:44:331:44:35

They weren't really too keen on the taste

1:44:351:44:37

'and then the texture they didn't like at all.'

1:44:371:44:40

'I want you to talk about feedback,'

1:44:401:44:42

but I want you to talk about it

1:44:421:44:44

in a very positive way.

1:44:441:44:45

Yeah, I mean...

1:44:451:44:47

'No negativity, stand by what we're saying, back it up 100%.'

1:44:471:44:50

See you soon.

1:44:501:44:51

Joseph, I know you've been out

1:44:541:44:56

tasting it with the consumers this morning.

1:44:561:44:58

We'd like you to share the feedback that we've got.

1:44:581:45:01

Um...

1:45:011:45:03

Um...

1:45:041:45:06

So, basically, to start with, they thought the product was amazing.

1:45:061:45:10

APPLAUSE

1:45:121:45:15

I just... I love Karren's expression at that point.

1:45:161:45:20

She's saying, "Amazing? As in amazing no-one threw up on the pavement?"

1:45:201:45:24

No, you can't hide anything from Karren.

1:45:241:45:27

But Gary dropped you right in it, there, didn't he, really?

1:45:271:45:30

-Sorry, mate.

-Lord Sugar, that's a good point.

1:45:301:45:33

You've talked a lot about supporting the product,

1:45:331:45:35

and Joseph certainly did do that.

1:45:351:45:37

He did, he sailed a little bit close to the wind

1:45:371:45:40

as far as the truth was concerned.

1:45:401:45:43

But to give him credit, you saw him hesitate a couple of times,

1:45:431:45:46

which showed his honesty, really,

1:45:461:45:48

as if to say, "Oh, my God, I've got to lie here."

1:45:481:45:51

But the thing is, you've got to find some positive things to say.

1:45:511:45:54

I think earlier in the process, we saw some candidates who,

1:45:541:45:57

halfway through, kind of gave up on the product.

1:45:571:46:01

You can't afford to give up on your product.

1:46:011:46:03

I mean, that's what you've got, that's what you've got to sell,

1:46:031:46:06

that's what you decided to do, get on with it.

1:46:061:46:09

You've got to get on with it. It's not a good thing

1:46:091:46:12

if anybody gives up on what their product is

1:46:121:46:15

and what their idea is.

1:46:151:46:17

So we had a bit of that this year. I won't mention any names.

1:46:171:46:21

-It was Natalie, wasn't it?

-Yeah, that's right.

1:46:211:46:25

Well, I didn't mention the name.

1:46:251:46:27

-But you have to back your product.

-OK.

1:46:271:46:30

So, in the last instalment,

1:46:301:46:31

we saw Romesh being fired in the boardroom.

1:46:311:46:34

What did you get up to next, Romesh?

1:46:341:46:36

Well, I had been fired, unjustly.

1:46:361:46:39

And so I then had to do the walk of shame and the cab ride home.

1:46:391:46:42

Let's have a look at that then.

1:46:421:46:44

-Previously on The Apprentice...

-You're fired.

1:46:441:46:47

Where's the taxi?

1:46:551:46:57

Am I supposed to book the taxi myself?

1:46:581:47:01

Hello, this is Romesh, formerly known as Team Romesh.

1:47:011:47:04

Could I have a taxi from Lord Sugar's office, please?

1:47:041:47:08

What took you so long? Can you actually do it properly?

1:47:121:47:15

Come out and reverse back in?

1:47:151:47:17

Lord Sugar was wrong to fire me today.

1:47:361:47:38

He knows it, I know it, everybody knows it.

1:47:381:47:42

I did learn one thing from this process. Claude's e-mail address.

1:47:441:47:47

He didn't even give it to me, I just saw it on a piece of documentation.

1:47:471:47:52

That's networking.

1:47:521:47:53

APPLAUSE

1:47:531:47:56

Yes, in case you're wondering, that's [email protected].

1:47:591:48:03

So, Lord Sugar, if Romesh applies for the next series,

1:48:031:48:05

can you see him as a potential business partner?

1:48:051:48:08

Look, he's got scope, maybe.

1:48:081:48:10

Maybe. Never say never.

1:48:101:48:13

In his case, I would.

1:48:131:48:15

Well, it's time for another award.

1:48:151:48:17

Let's have a look at who's in the running.

1:48:171:48:19

And the nominations are...

1:48:261:48:28

..Dan - for his bold team name suggestion.

1:48:291:48:32

Can I sort of throw my thought into the thought pond

1:48:321:48:36

and we call ourselves the Sugarbabes?

1:48:361:48:39

The Sugarbabes.

1:48:391:48:41

David - for rewriting the fashion rule book.

1:48:421:48:45

You can wear it with almost anything.

1:48:451:48:48

You're wearing it with jeans, I'm wearing it with a bit of a suit.

1:48:481:48:51

Brett - for claiming the sky and a brick wall

1:48:511:48:54

are pretty much exactly the same.

1:48:541:48:56

You've literally got all of this to look out at.

1:48:561:48:59

I think you're showing them the wrong spot.

1:48:591:49:01

It's pretty much exactly the same.

1:49:011:49:04

And Mergim - for blaming the wall for his failure to put up a shelf.

1:49:061:49:10

I did say it was probably her wall as well, Lord Sugar.

1:49:101:49:13

Something wrong with her wall?

1:49:131:49:15

Yeah, it's a good thing I spotted the problem now.

1:49:151:49:18

APPLAUSE

1:49:181:49:20

And Grace is going to tell us who the winner is.

1:49:221:49:25

And the winner is...

1:49:251:49:28

Brett.

1:49:281:49:29

-Here you go, Brett.

-Thanks, mate.

-Congratulations. How do you feel?

1:49:341:49:37

It just goes to prove that if you don't get your ass in your hands

1:49:371:49:40

and you keep to the specification,

1:49:401:49:43

you can sometimes still get it wrong.

1:49:431:49:45

-So thank you ever so much.

-What a worthy champion.

1:49:451:49:48

-Brett, that was great.

-Let's hear it for Brett.

1:49:481:49:51

Joseph is no longer just a candidate, he's now the winning candidate

1:49:531:49:57

and we've got some previous winners in the audience tonight.

1:49:571:50:00

Last year's winner is here.

1:50:001:50:02

Mark Wright, ladies and gentlemen, here he is.

1:50:021:50:04

So...Mark, you are now a year into your partnership.

1:50:041:50:10

What's it like working with Lord Sugar?

1:50:101:50:13

You were saying earlier he's a right pain.

1:50:131:50:15

Yeah, I also said not to tell him that. So, thanks.

1:50:151:50:18

I think...I remember sitting in Joseph's position last year

1:50:181:50:21

and you're not sure what's about to happen

1:50:211:50:23

and I think everyone thinks that at home.

1:50:231:50:25

But it's the most life-changing thing.

1:50:251:50:26

Lord Sugar opens a bank account,

1:50:261:50:29

literally £250,000 goes into that account.

1:50:291:50:32

He puts a very good team around you, as well as himself,

1:50:321:50:34

and you get a lot of support from the other apprentices as well.

1:50:341:50:37

It's literally a life-changing thing,

1:50:371:50:39

and you're about to experience one of the best years you'll ever have.

1:50:391:50:42

That's amazing to hear, isn't it? And he obviously is...

1:50:421:50:46

APPLAUSE

1:50:461:50:48

All right, any advice for Joseph on the dos and don'ts

1:50:481:50:51

-of working with Lord Sugar?

-It's really just to listen.

1:50:511:50:54

I think you've got such a good team around you and Lord Sugar

1:50:541:50:57

makes himself really available over the next couple of months.

1:50:571:51:00

And we're all here to help you as well.

1:51:001:51:02

So just ask for advice, listen to what you're told,

1:51:021:51:04

get your head down, work hard and you'll do exceptionally well.

1:51:041:51:07

Mark, how is your business doing?

1:51:071:51:09

Yes, my business has just flown.

1:51:091:51:12

Climb Online is 11 months old this month.

1:51:121:51:14

We've already turned over in excess of £1.5 million.

1:51:141:51:18

We've got 20 staff, two offices,

1:51:181:51:20

and we provide search engine marketing for over 200

1:51:201:51:23

of the biggest companies in the country, so we've done really well.

1:51:231:51:27

Congratulations, well done.

1:51:271:51:29

We've also got previous winners Tom Pellereau, Dr Leah Totton

1:51:321:51:37

and Ricky Martin are here. What do you think of Joseph's idea?

1:51:371:51:41

Joseph, I think you are great

1:51:411:51:43

and I am opening a new clinic at the minute

1:51:431:51:45

and if you could do my plumbing, that would be really great!

1:51:451:51:49

Well, thank you to all our previous winners there.

1:51:491:51:52

So, Lord Sugar, it's been an incredibly eventful series.

1:51:561:51:59

We've had a triple firing, we've had a resignation,

1:51:591:52:01

lots of very challenging tasks. What was your favourite task?

1:52:011:52:05

The advertising task is always one of my favourites

1:52:051:52:08

because I'm a marketing man myself.

1:52:081:52:10

And I have to say, and I will repeat, that this particular year's

1:52:101:52:14

advertising task was the best one that we've ever had.

1:52:141:52:18

I mean, I'm talking about the winning team, of course.

1:52:181:52:21

-Yeah.

-This is the Western shampoo.

1:52:211:52:24

Yeah, this is the one that Richard took credit for.

1:52:241:52:27

LAUGHTER

1:52:271:52:29

-Which is surprising, of course.

-David is there as well.

1:52:291:52:32

David, what do you think about that?

1:52:321:52:34

I personally think that Richard was great at delegating,

1:52:341:52:37

but when it came to the branding and things like that, we work together

1:52:371:52:41

as a team and I'd like to take credit for the name and the logo.

1:52:411:52:44

So you're taking credit?

1:52:441:52:45

Lord Sugar, I'm sure you've enjoyed watching the candidates.

1:52:451:52:49

We've certainly enjoyed watching you on this series, as always.

1:52:491:52:52

Let's have a look at your highlights.

1:52:521:52:54

Lord Sugar.

1:52:591:53:00

Get your hands out of your pockets.

1:53:021:53:04

This is an incredible opportunity.

1:53:041:53:07

Any business partner of mine

1:53:071:53:09

needs to know that making money involves hard work.

1:53:091:53:12

-However, he did stipulate...

-I'm going to fall asleep in a minute. Get to the point.

1:53:121:53:16

I want you to get a piece of that action,

1:53:161:53:18

so I'm sending you to the London Pet Show.

1:53:181:53:21

You couldn't sell a bone to Battersea Dogs Home

1:53:211:53:23

at the moment, from what I've heard.

1:53:231:53:25

The main character is a monster who lives a life of isolation

1:53:251:53:28

until society learns to live with it.

1:53:281:53:31

It sounds like the biography of Piers Morgan.

1:53:311:53:34

For your next task, I'd like you to create your own healthy snacks.

1:53:361:53:41

You went to retailers with this? Does it come with face wipes?

1:53:411:53:45

You've got more cheek than Kim Kardashian, I think.

1:53:451:53:48

Thanks a lot. Off you go.

1:53:511:53:53

Lord Sugar, did you ever get that oil off your hands?

1:53:571:54:00

Oh, it was difficult!

1:54:001:54:02

I like Claude's face at that time because I said to him,

1:54:021:54:06

"Let's open these crisps."

1:54:061:54:09

And he said, "Are you sure?"

1:54:091:54:11

I said, "Yeah, why not?" And he brought out this roll of...

1:54:111:54:16

And said you need to have this around you.

1:54:161:54:18

Well, I had to degrease afterwards.

1:54:181:54:22

It was an all-round disastrous task, really, wasn't it?

1:54:221:54:25

It weren't too good.

1:54:251:54:27

I'm not too sure of The Apprentice historians out there

1:54:271:54:31

as to whether we've ever had a situation

1:54:311:54:36

where both teams got no orders.

1:54:361:54:38

So I had a dilemma, really. I think it's a first, really.

1:54:381:54:42

Well, it's time for our final Apprentice 2015 award.

1:54:421:54:46

And this is a very special one.

1:54:461:54:48

And the nominations are...

1:54:551:54:57

Vana - for explaining the thinking behind their Cactus shampoo bottle.

1:54:571:55:02

The green bottle was chosen because the cactus is green.

1:55:021:55:07

Charleine - for describing the weight of the heavy candles.

1:55:091:55:14

The heavy candles are heavy.

1:55:141:55:16

Natalie - for unlocking the mystery of the name Desert Secret.

1:55:181:55:22

We've got a secret to show to you all today.

1:55:221:55:25

A secret from the desert.

1:55:251:55:27

Desert Secret.

1:55:271:55:30

And Elle - for telling us what's wrong with that fish.

1:55:311:55:35

That fish doesn't have a head.

1:55:351:55:37

APPLAUSE

1:55:371:55:39

And, Lord Sugar, would you please announce the winner?

1:55:421:55:46

Well, the winner is Charleine.

1:55:481:55:51

-Oh, thanks, Richard. I've been waiting for this.

-It's my pleasure.

1:55:581:56:01

Oh, yeah!

1:56:011:56:02

Charleine, tell me, how does it feel to win this prestigious award?

1:56:021:56:06

I'm really happy to win the award for the heavy candles are heavy.

1:56:061:56:10

Do you think you might take one of those candles

1:56:101:56:12

for a romantic dinner with Richard in the future?

1:56:121:56:14

-Yeah, I think me and Richard have started...

-Perfect match.

1:56:141:56:17

Yeah, we've started gelling lately, haven't we? We have.

1:56:171:56:22

It's a scandal here, Jack.

1:56:221:56:24

Back to you in the studio.

1:56:241:56:26

Let's give it up for Charleine anyway. Thank you very much.

1:56:261:56:30

Well, Joseph, we've loved watching you on The Apprentice.

1:56:351:56:38

You've now got an investment of £250,000,

1:56:381:56:41

but nobody leaves You're Hired empty-handed.

1:56:411:56:43

You're a very smart looking fellow, but just in case you want to

1:56:431:56:46

change your look at any time, we've got you this, which is...

1:56:461:56:50

It's a "show before you grow" moustache gallery.

1:56:501:56:54

-Thank you very much.

-So you can just experiment.

1:56:541:56:56

You don't need to grow it and look stupid for three weeks.

1:56:561:57:00

How about that? That's for you there.

1:57:001:57:03

That's amazing, thank you very much.

1:57:031:57:05

APPLAUSE

1:57:051:57:08

Huge congratulations. Let's look at your highlights.

1:57:101:57:14

I want the cars, I want the girls, but most of all, I want the power.

1:57:161:57:20

He does have his own opinions and he isn't scared to share them.

1:57:221:57:26

And I quite like that in someone.

1:57:261:57:28

No messing about, no stopping, no toilet breaks, literally hitting it.

1:57:281:57:31

Solid, yeah?

1:57:311:57:33

You say you are the master of persuasion with the women.

1:57:331:57:36

Oh!

1:57:361:57:38

You've got a beautiful smile. Let's go at 180.

1:57:391:57:42

Maybe I should change your name to Valentino.

1:57:421:57:44

I'm full of admiration for what he's done in his life

1:57:441:57:47

and throughout this process, I can see him going a long way.

1:57:471:57:50

Do you want to come over quickly before we shut?

1:57:501:57:52

We're about to put the lid down.

1:57:521:57:54

Joseph, you are staying today, whatever happens.

1:57:541:57:57

-Well done, Joseph.

-Good job.

1:57:571:57:59

Congratulations, mate.

1:57:591:58:01

Thank you very much.

1:58:011:58:02

I feel absolutely amazing and I can't wipe the smile off my face.

1:58:021:58:06

Ladies and gentlemen, the winner of The Apprentice 2015, Joseph Valente.

1:58:061:58:12

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

1:58:121:58:15

So, that's it for this year's Apprentice.

1:58:191:58:22

Lord Sugar will be looking for another business partner next year,

1:58:221:58:25

so if you think that could be you, go to bbc.co.uk/apprentice

1:58:251:58:29

to find out how to apply for the next series.

1:58:291:58:31

Thank you to my guests - Lord Sugar, Allyson Stewart-Allen, Grace Dent,

1:58:311:58:35

and it's nearly Christmas so I'll thank him as well, Romesh Ranganathan.

1:58:351:58:38

Congratulations to all of this year's candidates, to Vana,

1:58:381:58:41

and, of course, our winner

1:58:411:58:42

and Lord Sugar's new business partner, Joseph Valente.

1:58:421:58:45

That's it from all of us.

1:58:451:58:46

Have a wonderful Christmas and a very happy New Year. Goodnight.
