Time now for a look at the news as seen across the United States a

couple of hours ago, in ABC World News with Dianne Sawyer.

Tonight, the world studying new satellite images, both these objects

in the ocean the key to the missing jet? As an American experts arrive

to help unravel the mystery. Level, the blast in New York that reduced

buildings to rubble. Winter rerun, icy roads sending cars spinning.

Meet the guy who has shuffled 25 tonnes of snow this winter and

counting. -- shovelled. Good evening. As we come on air, experts

around the air are looking at satellite images from Asia. They

show something floating in the ocean five days after the passenger jet

vanished and 239 people are on board. Are the images part of the

answer or will they just deepen the mystery? Our correspondent walks us

through the twisting the disappearance of the plane. Tonight,

the intriguing clues. Images captured by a Chinese satellite. One

after the other, three in all, won nearly 80 feet long, found in the

search zone, reportedly closer to the original part of the flight. Are

they from the missing part of the plane? The answer to that, the

search is growing. This ban of search is greater than Atlanta.

American experts have been let into poor over the clues. After five

days, all we know for sure is this, MH370 left at 12:20am and fell off

the radar at 1:30am. The pilots last words to the tower:

Claims by the military that the radar picked up a signal 45 minutes

later that might have been the missing plane soaring off course all

the way over here. Added to this, a worker aboard the oil rig said he

thinks he spotted something, e-mailing that he saw something...

It was closer to the flight's original rout. The Vietnamese search

the area but found nothing. For the families of those missing, face

after face, fathers and grandparents, it is agony. It is no

use whatsoever, it has just disappeared. If we could just find

some wreckage or something, it would be a help probably. But not this.

Eyes are focused on those images taken by the Chinese on Sunday and

now are finally released. Are they pictures of the plane on the water?

That we will find out soon enough hopefully. David Kelly covers

aviation. Show us where they found these objects. The Chinese say they

took the pictures on Sunday. We know whether plane ended up. The last

radar hit was over the South China Sea, where they say they got the

pictures in the south-east area. It is 25 Mile Circle-- a 25 Mile

Circle. There are large pictures of debris. The Chinese say this-- these

are big pictures. Experts will tell you it is difficult, if not

impossible, to identify objects with a satellite picture. One experts at

the peak-- pieces might be too big. But it could help concentrate the

search. We have an aerial photo from the Air France crash in the

Atlantic, which hit on the water, so the debris field was more

concentrated. A wide debris field could show the plane break at

altitude. We have you ass officials from the government saying that the

first they heard about it was today. -- US. They would not comment or

tell us anything. We are talking about something close to the

scheduled route. Anything from 100-200 miles to the south-east, so

that could beat... Here is part of the problem, this is the last that

we saw. Did it by that way? Or has the brief letter that way? --

debris. We speak to Colonel Steve Danny at, you are looking at these

pictures, can they be made clear? They are tantalising. I don't know

if they are clues yet. They are a little fuzzy to get any further

clarity. We have to get ships and aircraft out there to ensure these

aren't part of the aeroplane. There is the possibility they could be too

big. They may be longer than the wingspan. At this point we know so

little. We have two investigate every clue. You have been reminding

us, even if it is degree, it could be a long time before we know

happened. If you remember the Air France crash, we found degree, and

it was another two years before we found the black boxes that held the

secrets. We will not find out what happened until the get those black

boxes. It really is an intriguing night. We will be staying on the

story. For now, we turn to the latest battering ram of winter

weather. Millions of Americans union and sticking out. If you think this

winter has been colder than the rest, tonight, confirmation that

this has been the coldest six months and more than 100 years. Our

correspondent has more. Just when we thought we were in the Clare, Mother

Nature clobbering the midwest with a massive snowstorm. In Chicago, spin

outs in the morning commute. Car accidents killing two women are

higher. It is the third snow we as winter that Chicago has ever seen.

They are ready for it to be over. This meant that it is driveway and

for families and residents displaced, calm seems that a long

way away. Next we will have our blessed to Colorado. A 1-man

crimewave was caught on camera. Police say it began when a man sold

as red minivan with a fully rolled child inside. Watch as he runs

another car off the road, jumps behind the wheel, leaving the boy

unhurt. That driver was tossed out of the passenger door. He then took

a third vehicle, throwing a woman to the ground, crashing moves later.

Now we turn to General Motors, America's largest automaker.

Tonight, the subject of a criminal investigation because of engines

that shut down without warning. It was a defect linked to 12 deaths.

Tonight we have learned that the FBI is investigating. Our correspondent

has more. For the people who have experienced it, it is terrifying.

The car had its own mind. It was going where it wanted to go. This

man was driving his 2006 car just last month when out of nowhere, the

power was shut down and Syria were locked. I flipped, I slid into the

middle of the road. My airbag did not deploy. A woman says the same

thing happens to her. General Motors is recalling one

plate 6 million cars, models from 2003 after 2007. In those models,

the problem was with the ignition, which could turn off unexpectedly,

turning off the car and its safety systems, including airbags. The

companies as a heavy keychain and rough roads can cause the problem.

They have not have complaints for over one decade. It was not until

last month that they initiated the recall. Now there is a criminal

investigation under way. It is based on what regulate were told. In the

meantime, they are offering anyone with a recall car, $500 to buy or

lease a new vehicle. Coming up next- a hidden treasure. Remember the

company that found gold coins? What is hidden in your backyard? A lot of

families digging for treasure. There is a stark new wattage light

for American families. A spike in the number of children rushed to the

emergency room because they have swallowed potent drugs. Those pills

belong to grandparents. Our correspondent has more. Poison

control centres get calls like this 500,000 homes a year.

Children under five are rushed to the emergency room 64,000 times a

year from medication is they got into at home. A new study finds they

are not just finding their parents' pills, in 38% of cases, they belong

to grandparents. We have more grandparents living with families.

There has been a 23% increase since 2005. We know that older adults take

more medicine. 74% of grandparents who regularly care for children take

a prescription pill every day. All of these medications can be

dangerous in a single dose. Even life-threatening? Yes. Childproof

packaging is a myth. What would happen when my colleague asked six

children to see what they could do with child resistant bottles. The

youngest of the bunch needs only six seconds to pop open a bottle. They

proceed to open every single bottle. All in seven minutes. Because of

memory problems or arthritis, grandparents may be unintentionally

making it easy for kids yet into their medication. Many of these

medications are put in plastic bags, weekly pill organisers. And if

they are on the counter, they can be tempting? They often look like

candy. Mothers are shocked, and will be making changes. We will be home

dig. This man, his wife and their partner travelled the country,

scouting historical sites. We are looking for bullets, artillery

shells. They are worth money? Absolutely. The reason they picked

this spot, just a few yards this way, the battlefield of Gettysburg.

You can strike gold too, just last month a California couple found $10

million worth of gold coins in their backyard. This pastime is digging up

controversy to. Every other factors like a page in the history of

humanity. When you rip those pages out of the ground it is hard to look

back at them. Nobody can ever did everything. Why leave these

artefacts rotting and rusting on the ground? Back in Gettysburg, some

treasure. Some trash. For these diggers, the thrill of the hunt is
