During the summer,

two men were brutally murdered in Belfast by Republicans.

It was a glimpse of Northern Ireland's violent past.

The deaths showed that Northern Ireland hadn't made the progress

that it should, the progress everyone wants.

In response some wanted to give up and hand power to London and Dublin.

Others went for the easy option of running away.

But the DUP took the responsible path and we have been vindicated.

We have reached an historic agreement

to put paramilitaries out of business once and for all.

For the first time all parties are pledged to remove

all paramilitary structures.

Whilst others sat on the sidelines we worked hard

and secured an additional £200 million

to help the police tackle paramilitaries and organised crime.

We have put in place a task force

and monitoring body to deal with these issues.

We are putting the paramilitaries on notice.

It's time they left the stage.

In Parliament the DUP has fought the Tory assault on tax credits.

We have put in place measures to help

those 100,000 hard-working families.

For the most vulnerable, we have secured

the best welfare protections in the United Kingdom.

While Sinn Fein reneged on a previous deal,

this time Westminster is passing the legislation.

We accept Stormont needs fixed.

We've been saying this for over a decade.

At last we have convinced the other parties to reform the Assembly.

An opposition will be created next year.

There will be fewer departments and we will reduce the number of MLAs.

Step by step, we are fixing Stormont.

Devolution may not be perfect, but it has been good for our economy.

Northern Ireland is second only to London in attracting jobs

into the United Kingdom.

And with powers to set our own corporation tax after 2018,

we have the chance to revolutionise our economy.

As we deal with today's problems, we must look to the future.

The next Assembly term will end in 2021 -

Northern Ireland's centenary year.

We want to celebrate our 100th birthday

by having a Northern Ireland at peace and prospering.

And we can do it.

By working together, we can build it.

Let us make Northern Ireland great once again.
