Good afternoon and welcome to the results show. | :00:14. | :00:22.
Forget Shakespeare's anniversary - we've got | :00:23. | :00:24.
all the drama you need, until | :00:25. | :00:25.
Today's dramatis personnae are Scotland goalkeeper Gemma Fay - | :00:26. | :00:28.
Keep it high brow folks - we're on BBC Two. | :00:29. | :00:36.
First unto the breech dear friends is the Bard of Bellshill. | :00:37. | :00:39.
That's Chris McLaughlin to you and me. | :00:40. | :00:41.
He's at Fir Park watching Motherwell against Hearts in the Premiership. | :00:42. | :00:43.
Good afternoon. Good afternoon. I have been called many things... 1-0 | :00:44. | :00:56.
to Motherwell. Ainsworth midway through the first half. It started | :00:57. | :01:01.
like a midweek training match, low tempo. It sparked into life after | :01:02. | :01:09.
that goal from Ainsworth. He rocketed a right foot shot low past | :01:10. | :01:12.
Alexander in the goal. That started a kind of Hearts mini fightback. In | :01:13. | :01:25.
the second Hearts had two charges chances. Motherwell should probably | :01:26. | :01:32.
be out of sight by now. Hearts disappointing, especially given they | :01:33. | :01:36.
are fighting for the second place from Aberdeen. At the moment it is | :01:37. | :01:44.
1-0 to Motherwell. Now time to go to Firhill where Partick Thistle are | :01:45. | :01:51.
hosting Dundee. It is 1-1. Very little at stake, both sides just | :01:52. | :01:55.
missing out on the top six last time round. They are effectively fighting | :01:56. | :02:00.
for seventh place, but making a good fist of putting an entertaining | :02:01. | :02:05.
match on. Dundee took first blood, Hemmings with his 24th goal of the | :02:06. | :02:10.
season. A predatory finish from him as he tapped in from Paul McGinn's | :02:11. | :02:14.
cross. Partick Thistle in the last few moments have drawn level. The | :02:15. | :02:24.
10th goal of the season for Doolan. A corner into the boxes cleared | :02:25. | :02:29.
away. A very even contest, as you would expect, from two side | :02:30. | :02:32.
separated only by goal difference going into this match. Hibs are way | :02:33. | :02:38.
to Morton this afternoon. Hibs still chasing second spot. A huge amount | :02:39. | :02:45.
to play for for Hibs this afternoon. But it has been a bit lacklustre | :02:46. | :02:50.
from Alan Stubbs's side. A lot has been said about the energy drinks | :02:51. | :02:53.
they have been drinking, but they have been lacking in energy this | :02:54. | :03:01.
afternoon. McGinn Has been left on the bench, struggling with a back | :03:02. | :03:11.
problem. But the game has been flat. The best chance has come to Morton. | :03:12. | :03:17.
A shot of the post, through the legs of the goalkeeper. Hibs's best | :03:18. | :03:22.
chance fell to Stokes, a looping effort over the bar. Hibs struggling | :03:23. | :03:27.
to get going. If they can't get three points, what the Blues that | :03:28. | :03:31.
would be to Falkirk and play Raith Rovers later afternoon. Now | :03:32. | :03:35.
Dumbarton, at home to St Mirren this afternoon. 68 minutes gone here. | :03:36. | :03:42.
This game delayed by ten minutes at the start because of traffic outside | :03:43. | :03:48.
the ground. Dumbarton are leading to live in one. Dumbarton will preserve | :03:49. | :03:51.
their championship status if they win and Livingston drop points at | :03:52. | :03:55.
Queen at the South, which I believe they are doing at the moment. | :03:56. | :03:58.
Looking good for Dumbarton at the moment. It wasn't looking good after | :03:59. | :04:02.
ten minutes when Gallagher put them ahead. A lovely volley into the far | :04:03. | :04:08.
corner of the net. St Mirren were looking good and it looks like they | :04:09. | :04:11.
would have a half-time lead but just before the break an own goal by | :04:12. | :04:16.
Keith Watson. The Dumbarton left-back crossed from the left and | :04:17. | :04:20.
Watson turned into his own net to make it 1-1 at half-time. Straight | :04:21. | :04:25.
after the break, both sides hit the woodwork. St Mirren also hit the | :04:26. | :04:33.
bar. Fleming when one better on 54-minute scum and lovely half | :04:34. | :04:37.
volley into the top left-hand corner from about 20 yards has put them in | :04:38. | :04:42.
front. Looking good for their survival hopes. It is, Livingston | :04:43. | :04:48.
trailing 2-1 away to Queen of the South. That would be a significant | :04:49. | :04:53.
day's work for Dumbarton. Absolutely, they have done well this | :04:54. | :04:56.
season. One thing Steve Aitken did with bring players to the club with | :04:57. | :05:01.
experience. That has maybe paid off over this campaign. I have seen | :05:02. | :05:03.
Livingston a few times in recent weeks and they have picked up as | :05:04. | :05:07.
well. They have played some good football. I would think they would | :05:08. | :05:10.
fancy themselves in a play-off position to stay up. That would be a | :05:11. | :05:15.
great achievement. Gemma, Jonathan saying much has been made of Hibs | :05:16. | :05:18.
and the energy drinks they have taken. It doesn't seem to be working | :05:19. | :05:23.
today and they need a win. They do, but they have come off two massive | :05:24. | :05:28.
games. The semifinal to go to the Scottish Cup final and beating | :05:29. | :05:32.
Rangers midweek. They don't have a huge squad at Hibs. They need to try | :05:33. | :05:36.
get those players through that game and get the point if they can. | :05:37. | :05:40.
Because you're looking at the game later on, Falkirk, who are seven | :05:41. | :05:44.
goals ahead. If they drop points here, they have to try and pick up | :05:45. | :05:47.
some of those goals somewhere in the next two matches, which will be | :05:48. | :05:52.
difficult. Back to the Premiership. Chris saying a mediocre, low tempo | :05:53. | :05:59.
between Motherwell and Hearts. Is that how it is panning out? Not much | :06:00. | :06:04.
at stake? I would say that is probably a pretty fair | :06:05. | :06:07.
representation. From the bits and pieces we have seen it in here, a | :06:08. | :06:10.
bit surprising Motherwell are not further ahead. They have had the | :06:11. | :06:14.
better chances. Hearts don't seem to have the cutting edge and have | :06:15. | :06:18.
looked a little shaky at the back. Scott McDonald missed a good chance. | :06:19. | :06:22.
To show the journey Motherwell have come on in recent times, the last | :06:23. | :06:30.
time these two met, Hearts won 6-0. What a difference a few weeks make, | :06:31. | :06:34.
now vying for fourth. Hearts have qualified for Europe. That show use | :06:35. | :06:38.
you the journey Motherwell have had. They have made the biggest leap in | :06:39. | :06:42.
the last few weeks and Gainsborough wards. That is the top six. Now the | :06:43. | :06:47.
bottom six, Partick Thistle against Dundee. A goal for Dundee, and | :06:48. | :06:55.
another one for Hemmings. 21 in the league for him now for the striker. | :06:56. | :07:00.
Beautifully set up, as he was for the first time, by Greg Stewart, | :07:01. | :07:06.
playing on the right wing for Dundee this afternoon. He set him up with a | :07:07. | :07:11.
pinpoint pass down the right flank. Hemmings was onto in a flash and | :07:12. | :07:14.
kept cool to slide the ball under the body of the goalkeeper from the | :07:15. | :07:20.
right-hand side of the penalty area. Looking good for Dundee in that | :07:21. | :07:24.
battle for seventh place. Looking good for Livingston, as you can see | :07:25. | :07:28.
on your screen, they are -- not looking good for Livingston. They | :07:29. | :07:32.
are 3-1 down. Party time for Rangers at Ibrox this afternoon. Not even | :07:33. | :07:39.
the football could spoil it. Six days after beating their archrivals | :07:40. | :07:48.
Celtic to reach the semifinals, they were up against Alloa Athletic. | :07:49. | :07:51.
Rangers behind to a goal from Duffy eight minutes in. James Tavernier | :07:52. | :07:57.
scoring just before half-time. Andy Halliday, missing a penalty today, | :07:58. | :08:00.
but they don't look too disappointed. No wonder, they were | :08:01. | :08:05.
presented with the championship trophy post match. Richard, the | :08:06. | :08:11.
party beginning with a whimper rather than a bang with the | :08:12. | :08:14.
performance but it doesn't really matter? It doesn't because they had | :08:15. | :08:22.
a run of three big games. They won the league and beat Celtic in the | :08:23. | :08:26.
Scottish Cup semifinals. Maybe a bit of a dip after that. But I think the | :08:27. | :08:30.
Rangers players need to be careful, they have a Scottish Cup final at | :08:31. | :08:33.
the end of the season. There is a gap between the end of the | :08:34. | :08:36.
championship and that game. They have to keep a competitive system | :08:37. | :08:40.
going and their form, as well as their fitness. They cannot | :08:41. | :08:44.
completely drop off. -- keep their competitiveness going. I watch the | :08:45. | :08:49.
game and it was in keeping with Rangers's performance this season, a | :08:50. | :08:52.
lot of possession, keeping the ball but they don't play Pennetta of | :08:53. | :08:58.
passes. Today was about the game, it was about separating the title. I | :08:59. | :09:02.
think the Rangers fans, celebrating the end of four years of exile from | :09:03. | :09:06.
the top flight. That is what it was about. There were 50,000 at Ibrox. | :09:07. | :09:12.
50,000 now. Mark Warburton getting praise from another Rangers legend, | :09:13. | :09:16.
Graeme Souness today, saying he has done a fantastic job. No one can | :09:17. | :09:20.
argue with that. I don't you can argue with that at all. He came to a | :09:21. | :09:24.
club in disarray. If you look at the way in which Rangers failed to get | :09:25. | :09:29.
promoted last year, and you look at that team today, there is such a | :09:30. | :09:32.
difference, an absolute difference in the mindset of the team and the | :09:33. | :09:36.
way in which they act at the club. I think it is a remarkable turnaround. | :09:37. | :09:41.
He has done it in an unseemly way, gone in there and done his job. | :09:42. | :09:48.
Rangers' archrivals Celtic took a step towards taking the title last | :09:49. | :09:51.
night. St Johnstone doing the work for them, dishing out a 3-0 doing of | :09:52. | :10:00.
Aberdeen at McDiarmid Park. It was another case of Aberdeen defending | :10:01. | :10:06.
poorly. I think it was probably their worst display of the season. | :10:07. | :10:11.
It is astounding for me, because this is a team that still had a | :10:12. | :10:15.
chance to win the league. You would expect the opposite of what they | :10:16. | :10:19.
showed. Every time the ball came into the box it looked like St | :10:20. | :10:22.
Johnstone had scored. Here, a classic goalkeeper move, I've come | :10:23. | :10:26.
out and I know I am not getting this, I will show and hope I get | :10:27. | :10:30.
something. And he did. You haven't done that... I have, on the move. I | :10:31. | :10:38.
think they lacked any sort of desire, even if you are having a bad | :10:39. | :10:42.
game you dig deep and find something. I think every time Celtic | :10:43. | :10:47.
have given Aberdeen and opportunity this year in the league, Aberdeen | :10:48. | :10:52.
have failed to take it. Three losses in the last four and you cannot do | :10:53. | :10:55.
that if you're trying to win the league. We can hear what both | :10:56. | :11:02.
managers said after the match. I mean, a similar type of performance | :11:03. | :11:05.
against up there the hearts game. It shows you what a good side we can | :11:06. | :11:14.
be when we play like that. Tonight it we need -- we needed more | :11:15. | :11:21.
strength of character, more physicality, because we got pushed | :11:22. | :11:26.
about and the best team won. Interestingly for me I think that is | :11:27. | :11:29.
the first time I have heard Derek McInnis mentioned the phrase | :11:30. | :11:33.
strength of character in relation to Aberdeen? He made the point earlier | :11:34. | :11:39.
in the season when fans and media were talking about Aberdeen lacking | :11:40. | :11:42.
bottle for the title challenge, was very strongly making the point | :11:43. | :11:46.
Aberdeen had won big games. He is almost going back on that today. | :11:47. | :11:51.
They beat Celtic twice this season. They lost to hearts in the last game | :11:52. | :11:55.
and he said that was a missed opportunity. What he meant was that | :11:56. | :11:58.
was the missed opportunity to put pressure on Celtic ahead of the Old | :11:59. | :12:02.
Firm game, to see what would happen to Celtic at that time. Aberdeen | :12:03. | :12:06.
have missed a chance. If there is one thing we have learned about | :12:07. | :12:10.
Aberdeen this season, they have a good starting line-up, good players, | :12:11. | :12:13.
but I don't think they have the strength and depth to really push... | :12:14. | :12:17.
The defence is not strong enough and I don't think they have enough | :12:18. | :12:22.
options in midfield. There is work for Aberdeen to do despite the | :12:23. | :12:25.
progress they have made. We are pushing onto the big football story | :12:26. | :12:30.
of the week. The demise of Ronny Deila as Celtic manager, | :12:31. | :12:33.
metaphorically falling on his sword on Tuesday. But the knives had been | :12:34. | :12:37.
out for him for some time. We can see him in happier times, the start | :12:38. | :12:43.
of his tenure, his brief two-year tenure at Celtic in the Celtic Park | :12:44. | :12:47.
sunshine. I think when he came in a lot was made of his background, the | :12:48. | :12:55.
fact he was a coach, about developing players and making them | :12:56. | :12:58.
better and he fitted Celtic's philosophy, which I think he did. | :12:59. | :13:03.
But he was inexperienced and it was a bit of a gamble. I think everybody | :13:04. | :13:07.
realise that. He had a good season, won a couple of domestic trophies, | :13:08. | :13:12.
did OK in Europe. This season, a lack of progress, the team has gone | :13:13. | :13:16.
back and even individuals... If he was making Celtic players better he | :13:17. | :13:20.
might have got another shot at The players have gone back, he that he | :13:21. | :13:24.
must combat any has not delivered what he said he would. It was | :13:25. | :13:27.
inevitable this decision would be made. I have been quoting | :13:28. | :13:33.
Shakespeare today. To quote Ronny Deila he said it was a lack of | :13:34. | :13:37.
improvement which killed him inside. It was obviously weighing on him, | :13:38. | :13:41.
the performances. He used to play for Celtic and I have met him a few | :13:42. | :13:45.
times, he is a stickler for his own standards. He will be feeling this | :13:46. | :13:49.
and hurting, not having made the difference he thought he could make | :13:50. | :13:53.
at that club. The fact is, Rangers have been out of that division four | :13:54. | :13:57.
years and Celtic should be in a position where if Celtic came up -- | :13:58. | :14:01.
Rangers came up next year, they couldn't touch them. I think they | :14:02. | :14:05.
will go on and win it this year, but it is not enough for Celtic. Rangers | :14:06. | :14:11.
got them last week, was this the straw that broke the camel's back? | :14:12. | :14:20.
As far as Ronny Deila was concerned? I think he was going anyway, the | :14:21. | :14:25.
result and the manner of the game, Rangers boss them in the early part, | :14:26. | :14:29.
I think that brought the decision forward. But I think it was already | :14:30. | :14:34.
made. I think Ronny Deila, the way Celtic performed in Europe this | :14:35. | :14:37.
season, the lack of progress of the team, I think the board were already | :14:38. | :14:41.
of that mindset. I think the fact they lost this game, it put pressure | :14:42. | :14:45.
on. The fans are angry because of the outcome. Pressure on the board | :14:46. | :14:48.
and the manager. In some respects I think he did the right thing. He | :14:49. | :14:52.
said, I'm going but there are these games left, we want to win a fifth | :14:53. | :14:56.
title. I want to leave on a high. The fans will get behind the team | :14:57. | :15:00.
now. It is a calculated risk announcing it now but I think it was | :15:01. | :15:05.
the right thing to do. That's Celtic performance, it was flat. They | :15:06. | :15:11.
couldn't match Rangers the tempo and intensity, pressure on the ball and | :15:12. | :15:14.
I think all those things but matters to a head. | :15:15. | :15:18.
Let's talk about who will succeed Ronny Deila, the name of David Moyes | :15:19. | :15:24.
has been conjured up in these discussions among fans and the | :15:25. | :15:29.
media. Gemma, is he the man for the job, or is he the type of man for | :15:30. | :15:33.
the job? Will he take it if he's offered it? I don't know is the only | :15:34. | :15:37.
answer I can give. David Moyes has come off the back of two clubs where | :15:38. | :15:44.
he has been a bit burnt. I know that he could go in there and improve | :15:45. | :15:52.
players. I look at Rangers and Mark Warburton who has gone in there and | :15:53. | :15:54.
he's done a fantastic job and that's almost the kind of manager serve the | :15:55. | :15:59.
needs who is big enough to deal with the club and also strong enough on | :16:00. | :16:03.
how he will develop players but I cannot put a name on who that player | :16:04. | :16:09.
is at the moment. Celtic fans want a big-name. I think the board would | :16:10. | :16:14.
like a big-name because they want to sell season-ticket sales, season | :16:15. | :16:18.
ticket sales have not been good enough somewhere between 30 | :16:19. | :16:22.
5000-40,000 is not enough, they want somebody to bring fans back to the | :16:23. | :16:26.
club. It is a huge job to do at Celtic and Gemma touched on the fact | :16:27. | :16:32.
Celtic have been out of the league for -- Rangers have been out of the | :16:33. | :16:37.
league for four years. Charlie Mulgrew is out of contract in the | :16:38. | :16:41.
summer so the squad has got to be cut but new players will have to | :16:42. | :16:44.
come in. There is a huge amount of work to be done at Celtic in a short | :16:45. | :16:49.
amount of time. And whether it is has to have a big enough personality | :16:50. | :16:53.
for the job but be good enough to make swift decisions on players and | :16:54. | :16:54.
be good enough in recruitment to bring replacements in. That might | :16:55. | :17:02.
appeal to somebody like David Moyes whose best work is done building a | :17:03. | :17:07.
team over a period of time. Use say building a team over a period of | :17:08. | :17:10.
time. Celtic don't have the luxury of time. -- you say. Rangers back | :17:11. | :17:17.
next season. Not with the Champions League qualifiers coming up. | :17:18. | :17:21.
Celtic's wage bill will be around double what it is at the moment, | :17:22. | :17:25.
Rangers will add to their wage bill, Celtic have great resources, they | :17:26. | :17:29.
have good players, that Celtic team should win the league more | :17:30. | :17:32.
comfortable with and it is and it is underperforming. When I say there is | :17:33. | :17:36.
work to be done it is in making that's got better and getting better | :17:37. | :17:39.
value from the wage bill but they are significantly further ahead than | :17:40. | :17:45.
any of the other teams in Scotland. Celtic compiling a list of potential | :17:46. | :17:49.
candidates, the pitch has cleared with the Euro is coming up because | :17:50. | :17:52.
potential candidates like Michael O'Neill and Roy Keane will be on | :17:53. | :17:55.
duty with Northern Ireland and Ireland, will that diminish their | :17:56. | :18:00.
chances of taking over? I'm not sure it will diminish the chances come of | :18:01. | :18:03.
the Celtic board will take their time and think about, as you said, | :18:04. | :18:06.
who we need in this position and what exactly we need them to do. And | :18:07. | :18:11.
of those guys, the people at the Euros taking teams, and they think | :18:12. | :18:16.
that's the right candidate answer sure they would wait as was done | :18:17. | :18:20.
with Louis van Gaal when he went to Man United when he was still at the | :18:21. | :18:24.
Netherlands. I think there is a great point there, there are so many | :18:25. | :18:28.
players at that club, Kazim-Richards, Carlton Cole, to | :18:29. | :18:32.
name but a few, on money, brought in for big-money there have not given | :18:33. | :18:38.
anything to the club, and they need to look at that. Is a cultural | :18:39. | :18:42.
change needed in terms of Ronny Deila, very much as a head coach, | :18:43. | :18:47.
would you agree? And they perhaps need old-style manager, a strong | :18:48. | :18:51.
character? I'm not sure about that, they need to refocus their | :18:52. | :18:55.
recruitment strategy. Celtic's best work in that department was done | :18:56. | :18:58.
when bringing in players from abroad who were young and undervalued at | :18:59. | :19:01.
the potential to be developed and sold on. There was a lot of them. | :19:02. | :19:06.
You have to do that but they've lost sight of that strategy because they | :19:07. | :19:09.
have guys on loan from Man City and the names Gemma mentioned, they are | :19:10. | :19:13.
basically and they've taught a number of young Scottish players | :19:14. | :19:17.
like Scott Allan and Alan Christie. They have to decide what they are | :19:18. | :19:20.
doing. Is it these guys they are signing? The people from abroad? | :19:21. | :19:25.
What is the focus of the recruitment strategy not that it has to be a | :19:26. | :19:29.
manager but they have to be more clear-headed and have somebody who | :19:30. | :19:32.
can develop players because overall Celtic's strategy is sound. They | :19:33. | :19:37.
don't have the money to buy ready-made Champions League players, | :19:38. | :19:40.
they have to develop them themselves so whoever comes in must be a good | :19:41. | :19:43.
coach. More on Celtic later as we look ahead to their match against | :19:44. | :19:47.
Ross County but the full-time scores are trickling in from today's | :19:48. | :19:51.
matches so we will bounce around the grounds starting at Firhill where it | :19:52. | :19:55.
is full-time, Partick Thistle- Dundee. | :19:56. | :19:59.
Dundee continue their dominance of this fixture with a third victory of | :20:00. | :20:03.
the season at Firhill, the team separated only by goal difference | :20:04. | :20:06.
before the match, and that was reflected in the closeness of the | :20:07. | :20:09.
contest. The difference was the presence of a proven matchwinner in | :20:10. | :20:14.
the visiting ranks, Hemmings's 24th and 25th goals of the season | :20:15. | :20:18.
rendering Kris Doolan's effort in between pretty much meaningless, his | :20:19. | :20:23.
first goal came against the run of play. Hemmings dashed into the box | :20:24. | :20:27.
to get on the end of Paul McGinn's cross, and that gave Dundee a | :20:28. | :20:32.
half-time lead but it was cancelled out when Doolin scored his 10th goal | :20:33. | :20:36.
of the season, his header on the end of a cross, even Partick Thistle I | :20:37. | :20:41.
hope of coming from behind and winning the match, but it wasn't to | :20:42. | :20:48.
be. Hemmings came onto the end of a Greg Stewart pass and gleefully | :20:49. | :20:53.
tucked the ball below Ryan Scully to give Dundee all three points and | :20:54. | :20:56.
move three points clear in the battle for seventh place. It | :20:57. | :21:00.
finished 2-1 Dundee. It is all over at Fir Park where | :21:01. | :21:04.
Motherwell were at home to Hearts. It is a win for the Steelmen, 1-0 | :21:05. | :21:09.
deserved in a match when Hearts huffed and puffed but produced | :21:10. | :21:12.
little, Lionel Ainsworth with the goal midway through the first half, | :21:13. | :21:16.
Scott McDonald twisting and turning on the edge of the box before laying | :21:17. | :21:20.
off to his fellow forward who rocketed the ball low right footed | :21:21. | :21:24.
past Neil Alexander which sparked something of a Hearts comeback | :21:25. | :21:27.
temporarily but they struggled to find a way through a sturdy | :21:28. | :21:31.
Motherwell defence. In the second half it was all Motherwell, two | :21:32. | :21:37.
great chances, one of the post and Scott McDonald blasted over the bar | :21:38. | :21:41.
when he should have burst the net. The game really opened up after | :21:42. | :21:45.
that, Juanma had a good chance well blocked and at the other end Marvin | :21:46. | :21:48.
Johnson forced a save with a long-range effort forced up seven | :21:49. | :21:53.
wins in 94 Mark McGhee's Motherwell but defeats for Hearts that you | :21:54. | :21:57.
would think all but kills off their push for second spot. Full-time | :21:58. | :22:01.
Motherwell 1-0 Hearts. Into the Championship, once again, to | :22:02. | :22:07.
Greenock, Morton against Hibs has finished. Let's hear from Jonathan. | :22:08. | :22:17.
It has finished 0-0 at Cappielow. They didn't deserve three points | :22:18. | :22:21.
this afternoon, in fact, Morton had the best chance of the match midway | :22:22. | :22:25.
through the second half, the left-winger firing a shot through | :22:26. | :22:30.
the legs of the keeper Mark Oxley and it rebounded off the post and | :22:31. | :22:34.
hence scrambled to safety. That was the best chance in the game, | :22:35. | :22:37.
lacklustre performance from Hibs, they looked lately and tired after | :22:38. | :22:41.
their exertions against the United in the Scottish Cup last week, the | :22:42. | :22:47.
match against Rangers. We thought it might put a strut on the step but | :22:48. | :22:56.
they looked tired. A lot was made -- made of the energy drinks introduced | :22:57. | :23:05.
by Alan Stubbs. They tried to add impetus in the second half but it | :23:06. | :23:08.
wouldn't come. The best chances coming from Anthony Stokes, looping | :23:09. | :23:15.
shot well saved by Derek Gaston. Another chance was ruled out for | :23:16. | :23:20.
offside. Morton looked solid until the end. This result will give | :23:21. | :23:23.
Falkirk who play later this afternoon a huge boost as they try | :23:24. | :23:27.
and clinch second place. Sandra Brown was watching Queen of | :23:28. | :23:31.
the South at home to Livingston. Queen of the South 3-1 Livingston | :23:32. | :23:37.
and three second-half goals for what turned out to be a comfortable win | :23:38. | :23:39.
over allegation threatened Livingston. Queen of the South | :23:40. | :23:44.
dominated the first 45 but couldn't make it count and found themselves | :23:45. | :23:48.
behind after the break after Sam Stanton scored after Jordan White's | :23:49. | :23:54.
knock-down put them ahead. Into the second half Queen of the South | :23:55. | :23:56.
continue to command and pulled level on the hour mark through Derek | :23:57. | :24:01.
Lyle's converted penalty, the veteran striker scored his and Queen | :24:02. | :24:04.
of the South's second of the afternoon ten minutes later, header | :24:05. | :24:10.
from a corner, ten minutes from time 25 yard effort came back off the | :24:11. | :24:13.
crossbar, the clearance found the pink boots of Gary Oliver who | :24:14. | :24:16.
slotted the ball home. In the final five minutes Queen of the South were | :24:17. | :24:21.
reduced to ten men after Lewis Kidd was sent off and Wilson hit the | :24:22. | :24:25.
crossbar again. The final game of the season here finished 3-1. | :24:26. | :24:31.
That means if Dumbarton win at home to St Mirren this afternoon | :24:32. | :24:34.
Livingston will face a play-off to remain in the championship. That | :24:35. | :24:40.
game at the Cheaper Insurance Direct Stadium is still going on. Let's get | :24:41. | :24:46.
an update. It will be a huge few minutes for Dumbarton, currently | :24:47. | :24:50.
leading 2-1, so as it stands they are safe but they have one minute of | :24:51. | :24:53.
normal time and three or four minutes of added time to survive | :24:54. | :24:59.
until their survival is secured. It is 2-1 Dumbarton. They were 1-0 | :25:00. | :25:04.
down, Gallagher put St Mirren ahead but an Watson goal and a wonderful | :25:05. | :25:08.
second-half goal from Fleming has Dumbarton 2-1 up. There is still a | :25:09. | :25:14.
Championship match to kick off this weekend tonight, and it features two | :25:15. | :25:18.
teams who have already secured promotion play-off places. Raith | :25:19. | :25:22.
Rovers and Falkirk. They are hoping to finish second in the division | :25:23. | :25:29.
ahead of Hibs, Scott Davie is at Stark's Park and is standing by to | :25:30. | :25:32.
set the scene. There's been a big boost for | :25:33. | :25:36.
Falkirk's ambitions to finish second, the draw between the teams | :25:37. | :25:39.
at Cappielow this afternoon means it realistically with their advantage | :25:40. | :25:42.
on goal difference and managers always talk about mathematical | :25:43. | :25:46.
certainties, they will really be looking for just four points from | :25:47. | :25:49.
their final two fixtures to clinch second place, given Hibs' failure to | :25:50. | :25:54.
win the game today. They could not have got a better position than | :25:55. | :25:58.
Raith Rovers, Raith Rovers made five changes to the team that won at | :25:59. | :26:02.
Dumbarton last week, just one defeat in their last 12, but their manager | :26:03. | :26:07.
Ray McKinnon said he doesn't want to show his hand against potential | :26:08. | :26:09.
opponents in the play-offs, which is why he's made wholesale changes to | :26:10. | :26:14.
the starting line-up. Four cup with just one change, Alan Muir head | :26:15. | :26:19.
suspended after being sent off last time out, coming into a fixture | :26:20. | :26:24.
which has been pretty good down the years for Falkirk, losing just once | :26:25. | :26:28.
in 13 league meetings between these clubs. | :26:29. | :26:30.
Falkirk will be rubbing their hands, Raith Rovers have made wholesale | :26:31. | :26:35.
changes, surprised, Gemma? Not really surprised, they've secured a | :26:36. | :26:39.
play-off spot and it's properly quite a good move. If I am Falkirk | :26:40. | :26:42.
in the dressing room I will have a smile on my face because I'm | :26:43. | :26:46.
thinking four points, two wins and that is as their. If I may Hibs fan | :26:47. | :26:50.
I'm pulling my hair out because Hibs have done this time and again this | :26:51. | :26:55.
season, had an opportunity to take a step forward and it has Peter De | :26:56. | :26:59.
Waele. They couldn't score today but in mid week they scored three times | :27:00. | :27:05.
against Rangers -- repeated the way. They got to the final of the | :27:06. | :27:10.
Scottish Cup however. It has been a curious season for Hibs and the | :27:11. | :27:14.
curious week. This is Hibs all over, they took advantage of the Rangers | :27:15. | :27:17.
team that was still feeling the effects mentally and physically of | :27:18. | :27:21.
their game in the Scottish Cup semifinal at the weekend. Hibs are | :27:22. | :27:26.
capable of playing nice football and scoring good goals. Where their | :27:27. | :27:29.
season has flipped is I think there was a time earlier in the campaign | :27:30. | :27:33.
when they were very sound at the back and they seem to have lost | :27:34. | :27:36.
their way now and they have conceded goals they would not normally | :27:37. | :27:39.
concede early in the season. They missed a chance today. The same | :27:40. | :27:43.
thing happened to Hibs last season, they ran out of steam physically | :27:44. | :27:46.
when they got to the play-offs, and it looks like the same thing could | :27:47. | :27:50.
happen again. It is all very well talking about energy drinks and | :27:51. | :27:53.
these things, and the players will recover properly, of course, at a | :27:54. | :27:57.
run of games in a short period of time at the end of the season could | :27:58. | :28:01.
end up ending the promotion hopes. Is it a big worry running out of | :28:02. | :28:05.
energy, Jonathan talked about the energy drinks and we touched on it | :28:06. | :28:10.
earlier. Do they concentrate on the Scottish Cup final now? Absolutely | :28:11. | :28:15.
not. The Scottish Cup final is a bonus. They need to get out of that | :28:16. | :28:20.
division, Hibs are a big club, a massive club, and they need to be in | :28:21. | :28:25.
the Premier. I think Hibs supporters might prefer a Scottish Cup win. I | :28:26. | :28:30.
don't think so, Hibs fans will want to go up. The board budgeted for two | :28:31. | :28:34.
years in the Championship on the base is the first one had Hearts and | :28:35. | :28:37.
Rangers in it, they've had the second season and if they don't go | :28:38. | :28:39.
up how do they keep the team together? We are going to head back | :28:40. | :28:44.
to Dumbarton, the game between them and St Mirren is over. What news do | :28:45. | :28:48.
you have? Dumbarton will play championship | :28:49. | :28:51.
football next season because they have preserved their place in the | :28:52. | :28:56.
Scotland's second-tier, they have won 2-1 against St Mirren and the | :28:57. | :29:01.
fans and players are on the pitch to celebrate, the second season in a | :29:02. | :29:04.
row that Dumbarton have managed to stay in the second tier and they are | :29:05. | :29:08.
delighted about it. The Shakespeare quote that comes to mind is the | :29:09. | :29:12.
course of true love never did run smooth. That's because before the | :29:13. | :29:16.
game I met a group of six Dumbarton fans who had travelled all the way | :29:17. | :29:20.
from Zurich in Switzerland to see the match, that is true love but it | :29:21. | :29:23.
didn't run smooth because St Mirren went 1-0 up through Calum Gallagher | :29:24. | :29:28.
in the bottom corner, lovely half volley but then it started going | :29:29. | :29:31.
Dumbarton's way soon after that because just before half-time gave | :29:32. | :29:34.
Keith Watson own goal made it 1-1, and after the break in a brilliant | :29:35. | :29:40.
fashion, a sublime volley by Garry Fleming into the top left corner has | :29:41. | :29:44.
turned out to be the goal that kept Dumbarton up, even that Livingston | :29:45. | :29:49.
lost to Queen of the South and the players are parading around the | :29:50. | :29:51.
pitch at the Cheaper Insurance Direct Stadium, clapping the fans, | :29:52. | :29:57.
they will play in the Championship next season. | :29:58. | :30:00.
Gemma, once again Scotland's top part-time club. | :30:01. | :30:03.
And achievement and rightly so they should celebrate managing to | :30:04. | :30:08.
maintain their place in the Championship, on the other hand, St | :30:09. | :30:14.
Mirren... Let's not go there! It is another club that needs to figure | :30:15. | :30:17.
out what it needs to be and how it will get there and the strategy, it | :30:18. | :30:21.
wants to be in the top division but based on what has happened this | :30:22. | :30:25.
season they need to do a wee bit of soul-searching. The next part of our | :30:26. | :30:28.
strategy is to go to today's classified results round-up. | :30:29. | :30:34.
I think all those things but matters to a head. | :30:35. | :30:37.
We kick off with the Scottish Premiership. That match between St | :30:38. | :30:44.
Johnstone and Aberdeen played last night. Three matches tomorrow. | :30:45. | :30:54.
On Monday it is Tottenham Hotspur against West Bromwich Albion. | :30:55. | :32:53.
League 1 should be coming our way shortly... It is. Worth waiting for. | :32:54. | :34:08.
Let's have a look at the tables in the Scottish Premiership. St | :34:09. | :34:18.
Johnstone sitting there in fourth. Motherwell should be forth now, | :34:19. | :34:21.
shouldn't they? Motherwell up to fourth. Sam Johnstone dropping down | :34:22. | :34:29.
to fifth. Dundee move on to 44 points with their win over Partick | :34:30. | :34:33.
Thistle. Let's have a look at the championship. Rangers are the | :34:34. | :34:38.
winners of the Scottish Championship and have been for some time. Alloa | :34:39. | :34:44.
Athletic relegated. Livingston, who lost Queen of South, will face | :34:45. | :34:51.
relegation play-off. In League 1, Dunfermline athletic | :34:52. | :34:58.
the champions. Ayr United and Peterhead secure in their places. | :34:59. | :35:06.
Stranraer still not over the line. At the bottom, Fofar Athletic have | :35:07. | :35:10.
been relegated. East Fife the champions in League 2. | :35:11. | :35:22.
Queens Park, Elgin City and Clyde still in the shout of edging into | :35:23. | :35:25.
the play-off places. At the bottom, East Stirlingshire go into the | :35:26. | :35:28.
pyramid play-offs. In the English Premier League, Man | :35:29. | :35:37.
City the only team in the top four to have played this weekend, a big | :35:38. | :35:41.
win for them, 4-0 against Stoke City. Aston Villa already relegated. | :35:42. | :35:51.
It is tight elsewhere. Newcastle United and Sunderland on 30 points, | :35:52. | :35:55.
Norwich City just a point outside the relegation zone on 31. | :35:56. | :36:00.
And in the English Championship, that one has not updated either I am | :36:01. | :36:08.
afraid. I wonder if the bottom half of the table has... Yes, it has. | :36:09. | :36:16.
Three teams down, MK Dons, relegated today. Charlton Athletic, went down | :36:17. | :36:22.
midweek. And Bolton Wanderers have been relegated for some time. One or | :36:23. | :36:27.
two issues with the graphics, but I think we got there in the end. Let's | :36:28. | :36:32.
stay with matters in England and get a match report from Manchester City | :36:33. | :36:40.
against Stoke in the Premier League. Manchester City 4-0 against Stoke | :36:41. | :36:45.
City. If Manuel Pellegrini had been asked for his ideal scenario in | :36:46. | :36:48.
preparation for Real Madrid on Tuesday, they surely would have been | :36:49. | :36:53.
it. A routine victory, a clean sheet and an opportunity to give his star | :36:54. | :36:58.
men a rest. They started sluggishly and needed an opening goal. Fernando | :36:59. | :37:05.
got it with a near post header. And a Sergio Aguero penalty did the | :37:06. | :37:08.
rest. Stoke rallied briefly in the second half and maybe should have | :37:09. | :37:14.
scored two. Joe Hart denied Marko Arnautovic. Up stepped Iheanacho | :37:15. | :37:20.
with two smart finishes to finish off Stoke City and give Pellegrini | :37:21. | :37:24.
the opportunity to take off Silva and Aguero. Stoke, 12 goals conceded | :37:25. | :37:30.
in three matches and the season cannot end soon enough. Newcastle | :37:31. | :37:34.
United's fight for survival took them to Liverpool today. Rafa | :37:35. | :37:44.
Benitez returned to Anfield. Newcastle's first point away from | :37:45. | :37:47.
home this year and they gained it from an almost hopeless position. | :37:48. | :37:53.
They were 2-0 down and not in the game at half-time after two left | :37:54. | :37:57.
foot strikes after from Daniel Sturridge and then Adam Lallana. | :37:58. | :38:01.
Good news for England this summer. Benitez gave one of those famous | :38:02. | :38:06.
Anfield half-time team talk and back came Newcastle. Mignolet let them | :38:07. | :38:10.
back in, came for cross when he shouldn't have. Papiss Cisse into an | :38:11. | :38:15.
empty net. Then Jack Colback with a volley in the penalty area. They | :38:16. | :38:19.
applaud Rafa Benitez of the pitch, who waits to the home fans. They | :38:20. | :38:24.
stormed back into the game. They could have won it at times, | :38:25. | :38:29.
Newcastle. A huge point in their season. Liverpool will feel | :38:30. | :38:32.
aggrieved they didn't have a penalty when Daniel Sturridge went down in | :38:33. | :38:35.
the penalty area in the second half. It finishes honours even at 2-2. | :38:36. | :38:43.
A point for Liverpool today. Let's concentrate on Liverpool's rivals | :38:44. | :38:46.
Everton. A big game for them later tonight in the FA Cup against | :38:47. | :38:52.
Manchester United. Could have implications, or am I stretching it, | :38:53. | :38:56.
for what happens next for Celtic in their hunt for a new manager? | :38:57. | :39:00.
Roberto Martinez could be on his way out if they lose, is that a fair | :39:01. | :39:06.
point? It is a fair point. I think he might be on his way out even if | :39:07. | :39:11.
they win the FA Cup. David Moyes question mark I am not sure David | :39:12. | :39:15.
Moyes would go back there. Once you have been somewhere and had a good | :39:16. | :39:21.
time, do you go back rest muck Neil Lennon, should he go back? He is | :39:22. | :39:29.
desperate to. Can you top beating Barcelona? | :39:30. | :39:33.
What would make it interesting if Roberto Martinez lost his job is if | :39:34. | :39:38.
Everton went for some unlike Eddie Howe or someone like that. Then you | :39:39. | :39:43.
get a moving off the deckchairs. I think David Moyes is holding on for | :39:44. | :39:48.
something like that. He wants to see what opportunities become available | :39:49. | :39:51.
in England for him before he decides what he wants to do. We believe | :39:52. | :39:55.
Aston Villa are interested in him as well. He's waiting to see what | :39:56. | :39:59.
happens this summer. It could have an impact that white. Let's look at | :40:00. | :40:03.
the three matches to come tomorrow in the Premiership. Celtic against | :40:04. | :40:07.
Ross County. What do you think the atmosphere will be like at Celtic | :40:08. | :40:10.
Park? What kind of reception will Ronny Deila get? I think it was a | :40:11. | :40:15.
smart move to make the announcement this week, take the pressure off. I | :40:16. | :40:19.
think it would be muted if he hadn't made that announcement this week. I | :40:20. | :40:23.
think the focus for everyone at Celtic, fans and of a run at the | :40:24. | :40:28.
club, is getting over the line. Four points, five points to win. They are | :40:29. | :40:33.
not far away. It is a fifth title in a row. That is significant for the | :40:34. | :40:37.
club. I think there will be a good atmosphere. I don't think there will | :40:38. | :40:42.
be a full house, nothing like it. Ross County shouldn't be | :40:43. | :40:45.
discouraged, they are a hard-working side it will make it difficult for | :40:46. | :40:49.
Celtic. At the other end of the table, Dundee United must win at | :40:50. | :40:53.
home to Hamilton. Yes, must win. And the problem they've got, they have | :40:54. | :41:00.
only won six out of 33 games. For them to think about catching | :41:01. | :41:04.
Kilmarnock they have to go out there and win all their games. We thought | :41:05. | :41:08.
we saw a bit of a mini revival from Dundee United, but even if you look | :41:09. | :41:12.
back at the semifinal and the way Donaldson left the pitch, I think | :41:13. | :41:17.
that sums up Dundee United in terms of infighting, the management, the | :41:18. | :41:20.
board, the players. I'm not sure they will do it. Hamilton, they have | :41:21. | :41:25.
to win as well. At the start of the season you tipped Hamilton to go | :41:26. | :41:29.
down. I was ridiculing you say never happen. I tipped them... Partick | :41:30. | :41:35.
Thistle to go down and Hamilton to be second bottom. That shows you | :41:36. | :41:39.
what a mess of that. Hamilton have gone through this season pulling a | :41:40. | :41:43.
victory out every so often to improve their circumstances. That is | :41:44. | :41:47.
how they've managed to cling on to the third bottom spot. They have not | :41:48. | :41:50.
had a good season. Not played as good as they have done in the last | :41:51. | :41:54.
couple of seasons. A victory for them would just about secure them | :41:55. | :41:59.
staying above the play-off zone. But you couldn't be certain. Even | :42:00. | :42:02.
Dalmarnock have picked up. A great result against St Johnstone the | :42:03. | :42:09.
other week. I think so. Kilmarnock, they have goals in the team but they | :42:10. | :42:12.
are not getting them often enough. They will see that game is one they | :42:13. | :42:13.
can win tomorrow. Right folks, every dog has it's day, | :42:14. | :42:15.
and I've had mine - First, though, a look | :42:16. | :42:18.
