Centre court at Wimbledon has seen some amazing matches, over the

:00:41.:00:44.

years, we have seen so many matches that we will never forget, but that

:00:45.:00:51.

caught 17 yesterday, it was a modern day classic involving a British

:00:52.:01:01.

player down on his luck, but found the right form at the right time.

:01:02.:01:10.

Take a bow Marcus Willis. It is an amazing story, his first tour level

:01:11.:01:20.

match. Superb. Ranked 772. Taken the first set! Delightful! Glorious

:01:21.:01:31.

stroke! Continuing to enjoy the occasion. Getting inspiration from

:01:32.:01:41.

it. Just an absolute dream start. Loving it! Just look at what it

:01:42.:01:50.

means, to Marcus Willis. What a way to close it! Marcus Willis. Romped

:01:51.:01:57.

into the second round of Wimbledon 2016. Commanding straight sets

:01:58.:02:09.

victory. What a wonderful story. And Marcus is with us. You have given us

:02:10.:02:15.

one of the most memorable Wimbledon moments. Just explain what was going

:02:16.:02:23.

through your mind? I was not getting nervous, until I was in the locker

:02:24.:02:31.

room, heart rate was pumping. But as soon as I got on the court, I was

:02:32.:02:37.

relaxing, the atmosphere was fantastic, warm up to loosen up. You

:02:38.:02:42.

are supposed to be nervous, but you were looking at your mates, doing

:02:43.:02:52.

all of that. Shouting at mates? I normally stay pretty relaxed, just

:02:53.:02:58.

try to enjoy the tennis, and relax. Who are the guys in the corner?

:02:59.:03:08.

Players! Some of them are pro, 700, 800 in the world. And some

:03:09.:03:13.

university students. This was before the match. You are supposed to be

:03:14.:03:16.

nervous. Just embracing this situation. There they are! Are you

:03:17.:03:31.

not supposed to be never as -- nervous Martina? You just want to

:03:32.:03:36.

enjoy it. And what was this story, with the shoe? I do not know. Just

:03:37.:03:46.

chanting random stuff! They went out, celebrating? I was getting

:03:47.:03:50.

somebody was this morning. What were they doing? Drinking. Just talk us

:03:51.:04:02.

through the final game. This is when it counts. Finishing off, the last

:04:03.:04:07.

game. Bit is so difficult. We're going to show, how you won. Not a

:04:08.:04:20.

foot wrong. He was coming at me. Routine pass? Standard. Were you

:04:21.:04:31.

feeling nervous? I think I received 19, out of 20 break points. He was

:04:32.:04:42.

coming at me hard. I was just focusing, two good points. 0-15.

:04:43.:04:51.

Then two good serves and that was it. And you should get a prize, for

:04:52.:04:57.

the celebration. Your girlfriend, your mother? My parents have put a

:04:58.:05:08.

lot of work in when I was younger. And how was she feeling? I think she

:05:09.:05:13.

is just an emotional wreck now. I was not sure where they were, they

:05:14.:05:27.

were spread out! She came up at the end and said "oi!" So this is just

:05:28.:05:35.

for everyone. The standard of play, you just never wilted. Such good

:05:36.:05:42.

play. This is the confidence, from the qualifying? I have been playing

:05:43.:05:50.

good tennis, hitting a lot of balls. Not quite the same as this. But I

:05:51.:05:57.

have just put that out of my mind. Tim, how impressed? Very impressed.

:05:58.:06:11.

This is the seventh step, when you go back to qualifying, and again, it

:06:12.:06:14.

is amazing what happens with some momentum and confidence. Marcus'

:06:15.:06:23.

game is suited to grass. Awkward leftie! Two of those here! But with

:06:24.:06:31.

the way that he has been serving, it is a tactic that has worked. Nothing

:06:32.:06:44.

to lose, lots to gain. Andy Murray said well done. Called you Wilbomb?

:06:45.:06:52.

I just need to keep serving those. This is what the sport is about. We

:06:53.:06:59.

have talked about the number one, number two in the world, but this is

:07:00.:07:02.

the other side. Dreams can come true? Exactly. We talk about the

:07:03.:07:10.

pressure, for the top players, but people always get to another final,

:07:11.:07:14.

this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and that is a different

:07:15.:07:21.

sort of pressure. He has come through with flying colours. You

:07:22.:07:24.

look as though you have always done this. When I get to Wimbledon, I

:07:25.:07:34.

think I am not going to play well, then I am just great to do that, try

:07:35.:07:40.

to control it. It is also, for the British men and women, the example

:07:41.:07:45.

of having the belief, going out and just plain good tennis. They are

:07:46.:07:51.

going to be thinking, if she can do that, why can't I? Wimbledon is the

:07:52.:07:57.

biggest and best competition, but it is about building on the other weeks

:07:58.:08:03.

of the year to maintain that. Learn to compete. And if you get the

:08:04.:08:12.

opportunity, take advantage. What Marcus said, about embracing that,

:08:13.:08:16.

enjoying that, it is easier said than done? That is what the tennis

:08:17.:08:23.

is all about. Most people, crumbling wrecks? Marcus just simplified it.

:08:24.:08:37.

Just think about the ball, the opponent has nerves as well. Embrace

:08:38.:08:44.

it. He was just drinking it in! It was beautiful. And Tim, yesterday,

:08:45.:08:51.

give us an insight. I have known him for a long time. When I was

:08:52.:08:56.

finishing off my career, he was practising with me, and he has

:08:57.:09:01.

always been a good kid, with character, he has missed a few meals

:09:02.:09:13.

but in shape! Good leftie serve. He has got absolutely nothing to lose.

:09:14.:09:24.

No arguments. You could always get your own back, comment on his tie! I

:09:25.:09:30.

thought that was nice. I thought it was a good choice. You talk about it

:09:31.:09:38.

being just another match, another court. But I think you know the next

:09:39.:09:45.

court, have you been on centre? I am going to go and take a look at that.

:09:46.:09:50.

I think that is important, it is a different experience. You forget

:09:51.:09:57.

just how big the backdrop is. I remember when the draw came out in

:09:58.:10:05.

96, I was going to be on centre court, and we had three days, we

:10:06.:10:16.

went there for 20 minutes, to look around, that is probably going to be

:10:17.:10:20.

more difficult for you, because of the schedule, but you want to soak

:10:21.:10:23.

up the atmosphere, before you go on court. It is easy to start looking

:10:24.:10:29.

around, and after 15 minutes, you could have Roger Federer coming at

:10:30.:10:35.

you quickly. You want to have the opportunity, to visualise the

:10:36.:10:40.

situation. Ready for business. Get the seat moving. Good advice. And do

:10:41.:10:50.

not be affected, by the opponent? The dimensions of the court, exactly

:10:51.:10:59.

the same. It is not going to be Berankis, it is Roger Federer. What

:11:00.:11:03.

a good opportunity. I know he is going to be smiling on the inside,

:11:04.:11:09.

outside too! When your friends have finished partying, are they going to

:11:10.:11:13.

be at the box tomorrow? I do not know how many tickets I am going to

:11:14.:11:17.

get. Committee member here. We could have an auction. It is going to be

:11:18.:11:33.

there, -- the rowdiest ever! I am sure life has changed already, quite

:11:34.:11:40.

a bit? It has been kicking off. Loving it. What are your movements

:11:41.:11:46.

for the day? Can you just shut everything out? I have got some more

:11:47.:11:52.

media, then I am practising at four o'clock, get some rest. Any advice?

:11:53.:11:59.

Just more of the scene. Obviously, you enjoyed the journey, go on the

:12:00.:12:10.

show court, nothing to lose, more to gain. Play the ball. Not Federer.

:12:11.:12:21.

And keep those guys dancing. We absolutely loved that. Well done

:12:22.:12:29.

Marcus. We set a tremendous Tuesday, galaxy of stars on all courts.

:12:30.:12:35.

Wimbledon 2016, off to a good start, and the action does not stop. Stars,

:12:36.:12:48.

and a special home favourite. Murray's point. He has the answer

:12:49.:12:57.

for everything. Pace and the power of Williams. An incredible

:12:58.:13:01.

performance from the British number one. What a shot! What a way to

:13:02.:13:15.

finish. It is delightful, from Tsonga. So well thought out from

:13:16.:13:31.

Watson. Typical point. Absolutely brilliant, stars everywhere.

:13:32.:13:44.

Defending ladies champion, Serena Williams, up against Sadikovic, and

:13:45.:13:52.

then Liam Broady, against Andy Murray. And Caroline Wozniacki ticks

:13:53.:14:06.

on Svetlana Kuznetsova. Stan Wawrinka faces a test, from the star

:14:07.:14:21.

from the United States Taylor Fritz. Johanna Konta up against Monica

:14:22.:14:26.

Puig, who got to the semifinals of Eastbourne. And the other matches,

:14:27.:14:39.

Nick Kyrgios against Radek Stepanek, possibly some fireworks. Lucky if

:14:40.:14:52.

you have a ticket for Heather Watson. Band we can just picture.

:14:53.:14:59.

Play getting under way. This is the march were going be going too soon.

:15:00.:15:10.

Aljaz Bedene, up against Richard Gasquet, we will be going to that

:15:11.:15:14.

soon. And over one court two... It is the battle of the bad boys. Wii

:15:15.:15:22.

will be keeping an eye on that one. And court 18. Lucic-Baroni. All

:15:23.:15:40.

those, getting under way. We have an absolutely cracking day in store.

:15:41.:15:48.

Andy Murray second on centre court. Going to be facing Liam Broady. He

:15:49.:15:59.

is actually practising behind us, with Ivan Lendl. He can be harsh,

:16:00.:16:11.

with some offers words, but he is different to how he looks on tv when

:16:12.:16:14.

he is watching. We have a good time, when we are practising. Obviously,

:16:15.:16:21.

not the be all and end all. Bucket is good when somebody relaxes you,

:16:22.:16:29.

comfortable in their presence? It is important you have an understanding,

:16:30.:16:33.

I need to know that when you have the biggest matches, people are

:16:34.:16:36.

going to be getting that information, tactics, feedback,

:16:37.:16:39.

giving me that honestly, telling me the truth. I believe I have got

:16:40.:16:49.

that, rate now, with Ivan. It was good, when we worked together

:16:50.:16:52.

before, and I have no reason to believe it is good to be any

:16:53.:16:56.

different. When things are going well, he tells me, and when it is

:16:57.:17:02.

not, he tells me, come on. Pull the socks up. Focus on this. Training is

:17:03.:17:12.

not easy. I like that. Certainly, making a big impact together, two

:17:13.:17:18.

grand slam titles. He was a tough player, Ivan, giving the same impact

:17:19.:17:27.

to Andy? I think the key word was honesty. No honey round the mouth.

:17:28.:17:40.

So he knows exactly where he is. We can see him, standing, he wants to

:17:41.:17:44.

be attacking and taking the game on the crowd courts. But not mentally

:17:45.:17:51.

getting distracted. Ivan won't stand for that? And that relates back to

:17:52.:17:59.

Ivan as a player. No grey areas. It was that clarity, of thought, that

:18:00.:18:03.

he is trying to bring to Andy's game. The biggest challenge for Andy

:18:04.:18:10.

is going to be dealing with adversity, it is when he is not

:18:11.:18:14.

playing so well, and he gets frustrated, distracted, moving away

:18:15.:18:22.

from". That is when it is difficult. Additives Lendl's relentless

:18:23.:18:24.

approach at practice that is going to give him the chance to win again.

:18:25.:18:35.

Playing a leftie again. Such a good returner. Andy, and Djokovic,

:18:36.:18:45.

possibly the best returners, so as you said, it is going too deeply

:18:46.:18:55.

into strengths. This was in the final, at Queens. Raonic has a

:18:56.:18:59.

monster serve. He said he was guessing most of the time. When

:19:00.:19:11.

Raonic is serving you have to take educated guesses. But obviously, he

:19:12.:19:16.

picked this up quickly, he was using the opponent's serve, so he does

:19:17.:19:25.

return well, and I think when you look at his record, against left

:19:26.:19:34.

handers it is phenomenal, he is going to be comfortable, and a lot

:19:35.:19:39.

of the Liam Broady shots will be to the backhand. I am excited. I want

:19:40.:19:46.

Broady to give a performance, nothing to lose, but I think Murray

:19:47.:19:52.

will be comfortable. She has just got to embrace the situation? I

:19:53.:19:57.

think that he will. You do not get these opportunities often. Just go

:19:58.:20:06.

and, nothing to lose. Fans will be pulling for you. Huge underdog.

:20:07.:20:12.

Almost like what happened with Novak yesterday. Against Jamie Ward. It

:20:13.:20:23.

could be that situation today. We have seen what has happened with

:20:24.:20:28.

Leicester City, and dare I say Iceland? The biggest upset? Iceland

:20:29.:20:43.

beating England? Or Willis winning? Only 300,000 people, in Iceland!

:20:44.:20:49.

Serena Williams, certainly hoping not going to be any upsets, won the

:20:50.:20:56.

title six times, debut in 1998, make it seven and she equals

:20:57.:21:17.

Steffi Graf. Growing up, I just had a ball, a raquet and a hope.

:21:18.:21:31.

What a story. What a career. What a timeline. It has been incredible,

:21:32.:24:00.

since the debut, 1998. One of the youngest, to win, now one of the

:24:01.:24:05.

oldest. Amazing career, amazing story. She has been getting trouble,

:24:06.:24:13.

dating from 20, 221 titles? But she has got the four times a year,

:24:14.:24:21.

opportunity, but she has lost semifinals, finals, for anybody

:24:22.:24:26.

else, those would be fantastic result but for Serena, horrible

:24:27.:24:34.

results. The measuring stick is so high. I am sure she is feeling some

:24:35.:24:41.

pressure, but you know she is feeling that, what a career. No

:24:42.:24:48.

doubt she'll get 21. She knows what Wimbledon is all about. First on

:24:49.:25:00.

Centre court. And she has raised the bar for women's tennis? On and off

:25:01.:25:06.

court? The training, and also power? It is a nice problem to have, trying

:25:07.:25:14.

to get from 20, to 21 slams! Security clearly Tate. Bags

:25:15.:25:19.

searched. But I think if it is going to happen, at the place where she

:25:20.:25:26.

feels more confident, without attacking, confident play, it is a

:25:27.:25:32.

tough 's office to defend on, and the opponents have always got to do

:25:33.:25:35.

a lot of defending. I think she is going to be favourite she gets to

:25:36.:25:44.

the final again. We can move on, Johanna Konta, it is exciting, what

:25:45.:25:53.

a rise from 146 to 18. Seeded 16. I do not know if anybody saw that

:25:54.:25:59.

coming. Good athlete, great attitude, but this is an amazing

:26:00.:26:07.

rise. I wonder what her goals were. If she thought this was achievable.

:26:08.:26:11.

It is not an accident. She has worked at this. It is a good

:26:12.:26:15.

example, I do not know who would have predicted that she would have

:26:16.:26:20.

gone so far, but it just emphasises the point, no magic works hard.

:26:21.:26:27.

Secrets. Good people around her. She has improved, computer. What, and

:26:28.:26:30.

has the momentum and confidence of beating good players. She was 146.

:26:31.:26:38.

The top 100 was a good milestone. But she has never rested on her

:26:39.:26:47.

laurels. Top 20. Seeded at Wimbledon. Obviously wants to have a

:26:48.:26:51.

good competition, but it is the message for the other British

:26:52.:26:56.

players, nothing she has been doing has been massively out of the

:26:57.:26:59.

ordinary, but she has been working hard and getting good results. And

:27:00.:27:08.

she comes to this, confident, good result at Eastbourne, particularly

:27:09.:27:10.

with the result . You get confidence, when you know

:27:11.:27:33.

that you can run down balls. Create power. That gives you the ability,

:27:34.:27:44.

and the shot selection, it shows in her matches. And you do not get many

:27:45.:27:59.

people, oats hitting Kvitova. She has recognised, when she is getting

:28:00.:28:05.

the opportunity, moving forward, inside the baseline, get the strike

:28:06.:28:13.

in, get the opponent on the defensive. Kvitova, big hitter

:28:14.:28:19.

herself. But took it to her. And grass rewards that. Going forward.

:28:20.:28:28.

As you hitting the shot. Are inside the baseline, grass makes rewards.

:28:29.:28:41.

Jo has done that. But it was not going to plant at Eastbourne. Lost,

:28:42.:28:48.

got an injury. It was almost somewhat, to Dan Evans. Nasty slip.

:28:49.:28:56.

I think that she had stretched the knee. It was awkward. You just

:28:57.:29:04.

wonder, if she was going to be able to play on. Coach on court. You can

:29:05.:29:13.

see the devastation. It is uncomfortable, obviously a lot of

:29:14.:29:18.

pain. And it is not good mentally. You can lose confidence. First

:29:19.:29:28.

couple of days, lush. Sap in the grass. But when the courts become

:29:29.:29:35.

dusty, movement is always good to be important, and hopefully she is

:29:36.:29:39.

going to be feeling 100%. She has got a tough match. On Court number

:29:40.:29:50.

one, a lot to think about against Monica Puig, it is one of the

:29:51.:30:00.

toughest wants to start with. Jo has just got to take care of points, get

:30:01.:30:08.

on the offensive, and not let get on those points. Do not let him in!

:30:09.:30:20.

Greg is playing second week. I think he needs some practice. Having a

:30:21.:30:27.

tough first round, it is not an altogether bad thing. She knows that

:30:28.:30:32.

she has got to come out, be ready, I do not know if she has been playing

:30:33.:30:35.

on Court number one before, but she has got to be prepared, soak up the

:30:36.:30:41.

atmosphere she has got to focus on the imp one, -- game plan. She will

:30:42.:30:55.

say we will see how she handles the body, and she has got to put that

:30:56.:30:58.

It is behind her. It is not like skiers,

:30:59.:31:06.

80 miles down an hour. That is good advice. Thank you very much. We have

:31:07.:31:14.

let's go to the coming up. We can go to the voice of

:31:15.:31:19.

let's go to the voice of doom and doom, Carol, rain?

:31:20.:31:22.

let's go to the voice of doom and find out when the

:31:23.:31:26.

it is lovely today, but through the course of this afternoon, you will

:31:27.:31:32.

tomorrow, we start off on a it will and we don't expect it to clear

:31:33.:32:02.

even when she is delivering the rain,

:32:03.:32:26.

play is under way, I'm it got underway. Some. He is 4-1 up. That

:32:27.:32:46.

match will be on the red button, it is

:32:47.:32:49.

COMMENTATOR:. He is starting to

:32:50.:34:14.

find his. He reached the quarterfinals until he fell against

:34:15.:34:22.

Andy Murray. Did not last lost to Steve

:34:23.:34:51.

123 miles an hour. Find out if it's an ace or not!

:34:52.:35:57.

Many people could be watching Bedene, for the first time, what are

:35:58.:36:05.

his attributes? What has he been good at? He is a solid member of the

:36:06.:36:11.

tour. Good baseliner. And we saw the work from the

:36:12.:36:38.

baseline there! Yes. And having drawn up, -- grown up, but Slovenia,

:36:39.:36:52.

that is an example, of trying to dictate Gasquet around the court.

:36:53.:37:13.

The British number two, born in Slovenia, now making his home in St

:37:14.:37:28.

Albans. World number 56. Ahead of Edmunds and Evans. We know who the

:37:29.:37:39.

other Brit in the top 100 is. On centre later. This is a smart shot

:37:40.:37:57.

from Gasquet, so effective on the grass. Gasquet, year on from

:37:58.:38:10.

reaching the semi final here. Defeated by Djokovic, straight sets.

:38:11.:38:18.

Second Wimbledon semi final. What do you think? We are right above that.

:38:19.:38:27.

By a distance! Australian umpire. Creep of the door opening for

:38:28.:39:06.

Bedene? Two points to get the break of serve back.

:39:07.:39:44.

Just a little bit short, and he is there. Shaking his head at that one,

:39:45.:40:03.

he is looking to do a bit more. Talked about Gasquet's two

:40:04.:40:09.

semifinals, and in 2007 when Federer got the better of him.

:40:10.:40:17.

But he has been broken by Aljaz Bedene, and he's back in this first

:40:18.:40:21.

set. Gasquet knows his way around these

:40:22.:40:34.

grass courts. Many times he's been to the semifinals, he realises he's

:40:35.:40:42.

in an arm wrestle with Aljaz Bedene. Absolutely, he's come back into the

:40:43.:40:46.

match with a little bit loose earlier on, he lost a save from 30-0

:40:47.:40:53.

up. He's come back up, and Gasquet will have two step his game up to

:40:54.:40:58.

match Bedene. It is interesting to watch this, he's done his homework,

:40:59.:41:03.

because he is looking at every opportunity early in the point to

:41:04.:41:07.

push it to Gasquet's forehand, doesn't want to get into backhand

:41:08.:41:14.

exchanges. Aljaz Bedene's fiance, Kimberly, and in front of her, the

:41:15.:41:20.

strength and conditioning coach, who has worked on his fitness. And his

:41:21.:41:26.

new coach as well in the white T-shirt, somebody you know so well.

:41:27.:41:33.

Yes, the same age as me, played a lot of junior tennis. He's been on

:41:34.:41:38.

tour for some time. He has taken up the reins with Aljaz Bedene, Queen's

:41:39.:41:45.

was their first week together. Tough first match at Wimbledon, that is

:41:46.:41:50.

for sure. Bedene had James Davidson in his corner, but they split up in

:41:51.:41:55.

March, Leon Smith, part-time relationship with him.

:41:56.:42:05.

Now amongst those pulling the strings and watching their man back

:42:06.:42:08.

in this first set, 3-4. I like the way Bedene is thinking

:42:09.:43:43.

his way through this contest, it is not all from the baseline, he's

:43:44.:43:46.

putting in some clever angles, making Gasquet with his way through

:43:47.:43:47.

this. You could see he was trying to

:43:48.:44:27.

changes direction of that exchange, wanted to get the ball to the

:44:28.:44:30.

Gasquet forehand, perhaps was not the right shot to go down the line.

:44:31.:44:36.

Points for another break. The frustration. Pulled his way back

:44:37.:45:05.

into this first set, and then gave it away again.

:45:06.:45:13.

He beat Nick Kyrgios, he's having a great Grand Slam, he was injured at

:45:14.:45:24.

the start of the year so missed the Australian Open. But in recent

:45:25.:45:30.

times, expecting to get the quarterfinals, semifinals, here he

:45:31.:45:31.

is serving. He has got a couple of challenges in

:45:32.:45:40.

his pocket. He has the desire to have the ball

:45:41.:46:12.

in the previous point. He has his wish. He will now be keeping a close

:46:13.:46:24.

eye on that same ball. Here it comes. That is the one. The second

:46:25.:46:30.

ball is a reserve. And last year's semifinalist looking

:46:31.:47:22.

in control against the British number two, and has taken the first

:47:23.:47:25.

set 6-3. Search a good player to watch,

:47:26.:47:40.

Gasquet. If you are coming to a tennis tournament and have your

:47:41.:47:43.

choice of tickets, which I know is a tough thing to have the choice up,

:47:44.:47:48.

if you get a ticket but Gasquet you are doing very nicely, you're

:47:49.:47:53.

satisfied with the way your day is starting. Absolutely. Nowadays the

:47:54.:47:57.

majority of people are playing with double handed backhand, and Gasquet,

:47:58.:48:03.

of course, has got perhaps the best single-handed backhand in the game.

:48:04.:48:08.

What he can do with the ball, the angle spins, it is special to be

:48:09.:48:12.

this close to see how it is done. Nine unforced errors of the rocket

:48:13.:48:19.

of Aljaz Bedene. What does a top player, is that acceptable? What we

:48:20.:48:25.

saw in that set is not the number, it is the timing of the errors. He

:48:26.:48:29.

got himself back into that first set at 4-3 and a queue loose points to

:48:30.:48:37.

lose serve again, it loses the momentum pulls up when we saw

:48:38.:48:41.

Gasquet get the ball is back, he saved three lines and that is your

:48:42.:48:44.

child is the macro chance gone, the margins are so slim. -- that is your

:48:45.:48:56.

chance gone. This is a popular place to start the Wimbledon day for lots

:48:57.:49:01.

of people in the complex today. The unreserved seats with 45 minutes

:49:02.:49:08.

before the players came out, long queues forming. There is a 20 seat

:49:09.:49:12.

we can see at the far end of a reserved seat, those who have eight

:49:13.:49:17.

cut bet tickets in the ballot. The hard-core, they were there

:49:18.:49:27.

earlier this morning to make sure they watched. A polite request from

:49:28.:49:38.

the umpire to find somewhere to park yourself. They have been waiting for

:49:39.:49:46.

about an hour to get on court, so they will be eager to get their

:49:47.:49:51.

seats. This is Aljaz Bedene, the British number two, trying to work

:49:52.:49:54.

his way back into this match having lost the first set to Gasquet.

:49:55.:50:19.

26 are all born in Slovenia, moved to England in 2008 -- 26-year-old.

:50:20.:50:32.

And as much as he is playing for his adopted country, playing under the

:50:33.:50:41.

British flag, the big conversation around Aljaz Bedene has been Davis

:50:42.:50:45.

Cup representation. Still not allowed to from the time being.

:50:46.:50:51.

From his point of view, his appearance for Slovenia in the Davis

:50:52.:51:02.

Cup a few years back, it is the one that prevents him from representing

:51:03.:51:04.

his new country right now. Peer class from Gasquet, this is a

:51:05.:51:56.

hard shot to hit the off backhand, just perfect technique.

:51:57.:52:12.

He is up and running at the start of this second set, first came to

:52:13.:52:17.

Gasquet. Just a quick look at court to kill

:52:18.:52:34.

two. What a way to finish off the first set, Teddy asked in control,

:52:35.:52:40.

he has taken the first set, and that game continues on the live red

:52:41.:52:45.

button. It is rather quiet on that court. That is what is happening on

:52:46.:52:58.

court two, we rejoin court three. Gasquet 0- one.

:52:59.:53:59.

He has been quarterfinalists or better at the last Grand Slam is,

:54:00.:54:05.

semifinalist 12 months ago for soft quarterfinalist in New York, at

:54:06.:54:10.

Paris before he bumped into Andy Murray. Didn't play in Melbourne

:54:11.:54:15.

because of a back injury, developing consistency at that level.

:54:16.:54:33.

And there will be those who love his classic, almost 1920s style of

:54:34.:54:40.

tennis, they will love him one day to win one of those slams.

:54:41.:54:58.

I think we've got to the point where Djokovic has been so dominant and we

:54:59.:55:06.

talk about the big four, the big five with Wawrinka coming in. To see

:55:07.:55:14.

somebody make a bit of a dent on that domination, it is exciting to

:55:15.:55:15.

watch. The big debate would Gasquet is it

:55:16.:55:46.

has always been not about how beautiful a player he is, it is if

:55:47.:55:52.

he has jagged edges to really cut into the better players later on in

:55:53.:55:53.

the Grand Slams. And has he got enough physically in

:55:54.:56:17.

the tank to produce his best tennis for several hours over days.

:56:18.:56:31.

The call was confirmed by Gasquet, but he wants a second opinion.

:56:32.:56:45.

By a couple of yellow fibres, and no more. What can you do, John? He was

:56:46.:56:55.

the umpire who called it out. Gasquet was happy to agree. The

:56:56.:57:00.

Briton was less sure, and he was right to be less sure.

:57:01.:57:33.

It was such a good example of how good Hawk-Eye is to get the good

:57:34.:57:40.

call. Nobody is come planning, nobody is feeling they were hard

:57:41.:57:47.

done by, there was a five second that they -- delay. Move on.

:57:48.:57:54.

Harry Hawk-Eye again. Rolling out of the shed. What will he tell as? It

:57:55.:58:08.

tells us that Bedene was right. It looks like a comfortable job,

:58:09.:58:16.

sitting on top of a green wooden chair in the sunshine watching

:58:17.:58:20.

tennis, sitting in your little chair watching the lines, but it is a top

:58:21.:58:24.

job when they go at the speeds they are hitting at. Could you have hit

:58:25.:58:28.

to better service? Bedene is digging in at the start of

:58:29.:58:44.

this second set. On Court number three, which is great Wimbledon

:58:45.:58:47.

historians will remember it used to be the old number to court before it

:58:48.:58:52.

was shifted to the outer suburbs behind us and down to the right.

:58:53.:58:58.

This is where we are, the millennium building. You will reckon I Centre

:58:59.:59:03.

Court. It holds 2000 people. I'm quite sure it has established its

:59:04.:59:09.

own reputation as the graveyard of seeds, as the old court to stage had

:59:10.:59:18.

in years gone by. It is a never side of how well this place does change.

:59:19.:59:26.

It is a beautiful arena. Compact, intimate, the 2000 seat occupied to

:59:27.:59:32.

watch Aljaz Bedene and Richard Gasquet, who took the first set 6-3.

:59:33.:59:38.

He will serve in this second, as the breeze just stops to pick up a

:59:39.:59:40.

little bit. Again, that's great knowledge of

:59:41.:00:40.

what works on grass. Bedene nowhere near that. Two strides from him.

:00:41.:00:41.

Perfectly timed. That was nice! Patience and

:00:42.:01:51.

precision from both but in the end Gasquet. The backhand, so much work

:01:52.:02:06.

off the court. So much acceleration. Below the height of the net, that

:02:07.:02:15.

ball. The longest rally of the set. Biggest point...

:02:16.:02:52.

What touch from the Frenchman. Yes. This was a beautiful pick up. Two or

:02:53.:03:07.

three times Gasquet was full stretch and Bedene has to look at coming to

:03:08.:03:14.

the net there. Such fun to watch. Zero burn-outs --

:03:15.:03:42.

not perhaps if you are Bedene but a real artist. Break down the anatomy

:03:43.:03:50.

of the backhand. And you talked about drawing up, the ability to

:03:51.:04:01.

control the pace? With no getting too much detail, for Gasquet, it is

:04:02.:04:09.

because of the spin, the harder he swings, the more margin on the ball.

:04:10.:04:11.

Back to earth. Down to court. Cost to hope that second double

:04:12.:04:38.

fault is not going to be costly. Oh! Bedene, looking as though he was

:04:39.:05:16.

in full control on this point. Just look at that. The artist, actors

:05:17.:05:36.

easel. -- at his. It has just clipped the line! Right down below

:05:37.:05:45.

us. I think he could have made that. Dropped in. Bedene, has gone back to

:05:46.:05:55.

the chair. He knew. What a way to break. Gasquet, moving ahead. And in

:05:56.:06:06.

control, having taken the opening set 6-3. We will be back in just a

:06:07.:06:12.

moment. We can show you what has been happening elsewhere. That is Jo

:06:13.:06:21.

Konta. She has had a fantastic year, semifinal at the Australian open, on

:06:22.:06:32.

Court number one today, taking on Monica Puig, that is tough to start,

:06:33.:06:41.

146 last year, but moving up at these championships. And that is

:06:42.:06:51.

Boris Bakke. In Novak Djokovic's corner. Day off from competitive

:06:52.:06:52.

matches. And you would particularly

:06:53.:07:14.

impressive, yesterday, against Ward. And Nick Kyrgios looking impressive

:07:15.:07:21.

as well. Against Radek Stepanek. Stepanek hoped to take him under his

:07:22.:07:33.

wing, after all of the outbursts, Nick said no, but they are friendly

:07:34.:07:41.

now. That is what is happening. Gasquet has established a break of

:07:42.:07:48.

serve as he looks to establish a second set lead. Sunshine back out.

:07:49.:07:50.

3-2. This how did he get that back! Is

:07:51.:08:51.

just such a good angle. Bedene was practically on court four!

:08:52.:09:06.

Just sense Gasquet stepping up a gear in the last five, ten minutes.

:09:07.:09:21.

Applying a lot of pressure down the other end of the court.

:09:22.:09:48.

Good change up from Gasquet and nice serve and volley. Sometimes you have

:09:49.:09:58.

to say too good. Bedene hooked that return back. Yes.

:09:59.:11:45.

Just starting to read that serve. Fantastic return.

:11:46.:12:09.

Well played. This is what he would have been talking to Nick about.

:12:10.:12:28.

Attacking the Gasquet forehand. And he has executed that perfectly. Big

:12:29.:12:30.

point as well. Break point. Nice depth and width to what Bedene

:12:31.:13:48.

is doing. Not making it easy for Gasquet. Those shots, no more than

:13:49.:14:00.

six inches from the line. Sometimes clipping the line. Another break

:14:01.:14:06.

point opportunity. Comes and goes in a flash. Such a

:14:07.:14:25.

sign of a class player. Last two break points. First serves every

:14:26.:14:35.

time, into the corner. Winners or setting up the backhand winner. Up

:14:36.:14:36.

the line. And this is, by some distance, the

:14:37.:15:32.

longest game of the match so far. Gasquet hoping to consolidate the

:15:33.:15:34.

previous break of serve. Never a good time to throw in a

:15:35.:16:03.

double fault. That's his first of the match.

:16:04.:16:43.

As you said... Bedene, thinking his way around the match. Clever slice.

:16:44.:16:59.

Getting his opponent total -- out of position. Clever play.

:17:00.:17:52.

The accuracy of the serve. Pushing Bedene to zone six, opening the

:17:53.:18:10.

court up. That was an arm wrestle! Really had to work hard.

:18:11.:18:29.

Gasquet, missed the whole of January with a back problem. Made his season

:18:30.:18:41.

debut at Montpellier. Won the title. Good form from then on.

:18:42.:18:54.

And Gasquet actually picked up a groin injury before the US hard

:18:55.:19:08.

court season. But once he had recovered, or knows hard courts, and

:19:09.:19:17.

then the clay courts, being as good tennis for some time. And it is that

:19:18.:19:24.

word, consistency. Perhaps it's the extra grass court

:19:25.:20:54.

experience... Just seems to be using that net approach more than Bedene.

:20:55.:21:05.

Offering a different picture. Not letting Bedene settle into those

:21:06.:21:12.

long baseline rallies. That is absolutely right. Coming in

:21:13.:21:30.

early on the point. A handful of times. It creates doubt for the

:21:31.:21:39.

opponent, it is not supposed to be the default tactic but very

:21:40.:21:43.

effective. He has been a UK citizen for over a

:21:44.:22:13.

year. He has got the passport, but not qualified for the Davis cup,

:22:14.:22:18.

that is because ITF changed the qualifying, at the same time he was

:22:19.:22:29.

trying to join the British party. Slovenia, a few years back. That has

:22:30.:22:32.

been the source of frustration. Years ago, he could have played

:22:33.:22:41.

because of residency. It is tough. He has submitted the application,

:22:42.:22:46.

before the rules changed. And as it has been processed, it has changed.

:22:47.:22:51.

Various hearings. Appeals. They have said it is going to be judged by the

:22:52.:23:02.

new rule. Effectively, ineligible. It splits opinion. No right, wrong

:23:03.:23:11.

answer. He was actually in the States when it was announced, on

:23:12.:23:17.

Skype, arguing. Where do you stand? Would you be happy playing for him?

:23:18.:23:27.

I think if you have played senior for another country, you should not

:23:28.:23:35.

be allowed, it is different if you have grown up elsewhere, parents

:23:36.:23:47.

have decided that, but having played for Slovenia, I do not think it

:23:48.:23:50.

would be correct for him to then represent another country.

:23:51.:25:25.

Generally been successful... Once again. Eyes of a hawk! That ball

:25:26.:25:49.

again! Keep the ball, swap the line judge! Having a chat!

:25:50.:26:27.

Every artist drops the brush now and again! I was admiring the backhand!

:26:28.:26:39.

The celebration that he can get, incredible. But that, not so much.

:26:40.:26:55.

The weather, changing! -- acceleration.

:26:56.:27:03.

Wide swinging serves taking Bedene way beyond the parts of the court he

:27:04.:27:12.

feels comfortable. Gasquet has once again been taken to

:27:13.:27:57.

deuce on his service. Acceleration of pace from Bedene.

:27:58.:28:01.

This is really well worked point. Forehand, extra spin. Brave smash

:28:02.:29:20.

after what happened minutes ago! Oh! He's not having the best of

:29:21.:30:10.

days. Not happy with that one. Two mistakes...

:30:11.:30:23.

Bedene making the point it isn't the first over rule. Either go to be

:30:24.:30:32.

absolutely sure. And you have also got Hawk Eye. Let the player

:30:33.:30:33.

challenge it. SUE BARKER: We were trying to wait

:30:34.:30:45.

for the end of that game, but it is going on and on. We are heading to

:30:46.:30:50.

Centre Court to see Serena Williams, if you want to continue watching

:30:51.:30:53.

this match you can continue on the red button.

:30:54.:30:55.

Let's show you what has been happening on court two, Nick Kyrgios

:30:56.:31:02.

won the opening set against Radek Stepanek he is here at set point in

:31:03.:31:06.

the second set, which he has also taken, 6-3. Kyrgios two sets to love

:31:07.:31:14.

up on Court Number Two. It has been an exhibition from Cody us, this is

:31:15.:31:19.

one of the shots of the tournament. -- an exhibition from Nick Cody us.

:31:20.:31:25.

He is loving his time on Court Number Two. If you want to watch

:31:26.:31:32.

that, it continues online, unconnected television and on the

:31:33.:31:38.

BBC sport app. -- on connected television. He is 2-0 up in the

:31:39.:31:45.

third set. We are heading to Centre Court,

:31:46.:31:49.

Serena Williams, the defending champion is coming out. She is very

:31:50.:31:53.

familiar with this walk Centre Court. Up against Amra Sadikovic

:31:54.:31:59.

from Switzerland, who has never played NA Grand Slam at all. This is

:32:00.:32:06.

quite a start for her to walk out onto the world's most famous court

:32:07.:32:08.

against the world number one. I welcome for the defending

:32:09.:32:23.

champion, Serena, looking for her 22nd Grand Slam title. You would be

:32:24.:32:28.

brave to bet against on this surface. She loves the grass and she

:32:29.:32:33.

loves Wimbledon. She has been looking for the 22nd Grand Slam

:32:34.:32:37.

title for some time. I am delighted to say that with me on Centre Court

:32:38.:32:42.

is Lindsay and John McEnroe. Quite a starter for this young girl to play

:32:43.:32:47.

Serena Williams in her first Grand Slam much? Sort of like England

:32:48.:32:55.

playing eyes is... Don't bring that up! Sorry, I had to rub it in a

:32:56.:33:00.

little bit. You are not opposed. Or the last. This would be even more

:33:01.:33:06.

monumental. Absolutely. Serena, she has been looking for her 22nd Grand

:33:07.:33:11.

Slam, last year when she was here, looking to do the calendar Grand

:33:12.:33:16.

Slam, although being in a semi and two finals is a terrific result, it

:33:17.:33:21.

is not good enough for her? Low blow she has been so close, when she was

:33:22.:33:25.

not able to win the calendar year slam, the loss at the U.S. Open, it

:33:26.:33:33.

set her back. It has taken her a few months, nine months to get back into

:33:34.:33:38.

the right mind frame. It has been interesting to hear her talk over

:33:39.:33:42.

the French Open loss, she was hit off the court, that has not happened

:33:43.:33:46.

much in her career. She comes into this Wimbledon with a lot of focus

:33:47.:33:53.

and intensity to try to get to 22. And the pressure, she talked about

:33:54.:33:57.

that when she was here last, winning Wimbledon, I can't imagine what it

:33:58.:34:02.

was like at the U.S. Open? I have never been fortunate enough to

:34:03.:34:06.

experience it, but it got to her, and the style that then she played

:34:07.:34:13.

through her. Then she did not play at all. -- at the style that Vinci

:34:14.:34:17.

played through her. It was the first time I had seen her outplayed in a

:34:18.:34:24.

Grand Slam final at the French Open. This is her wheelhouse. The parts

:34:25.:34:28.

that I worry about a little bit, there could be a couple of percent

:34:29.:34:32.

she does not seem to be moving as well as I have seen her the past.

:34:33.:34:37.

She seems pained a lot when she is playing, she does not seem to be

:34:38.:34:41.

enjoying it as much as somebody who has accomplished so much already.

:34:42.:34:46.

There is additional pressure trying to tie with Steffi and beat her, but

:34:47.:34:52.

she seems to be battling herself as much as her opponent. Do you agree?

:34:53.:34:57.

We saw her place in a tournament in the Spring in the United States, she

:34:58.:35:01.

looked like she would rather be anywhere else than a tennis court. I

:35:02.:35:05.

don't tell if that is the enjoyment factor, the disappointment of last

:35:06.:35:10.

hanging over her, but she has not looked right. The French she posted

:35:11.:35:14.

to social media about her running practice court at 7am all by

:35:15.:35:18.

herself, getting the motivation back, being on court, serving again.

:35:19.:35:23.

Sometimes we have seen losses spur her on to bigger and better things.

:35:24.:35:27.

I would not want to bet against her right now. Getting the mind right is

:35:28.:35:33.

more difficult than getting the game right? As her rage, even though you

:35:34.:35:36.

think she can do it for another couple of years, obviously

:35:37.:35:40.

motivation day in, day out is a factor -- at her age. She wants to

:35:41.:35:46.

be the best of all time, I think she is there already. But then you

:35:47.:35:51.

continue to play and lose matches like the one she has lost recently.

:35:52.:35:56.

Then people think maybe Steffi was as good as her, maybe Billy G Njie

:35:57.:36:02.

be talked about. It has got tricky for her -- maybe Billie Jean should

:36:03.:36:09.

be talked about. I would be surprised if she does not win two or

:36:10.:36:12.

three more. You figure it has to be happening here and now, this being

:36:13.:36:17.

one of them. This is certainly one that she will target, she loves

:36:18.:36:22.

coming back on this surface. Let's hear from her, her thoughts of

:36:23.:36:24.

playing on the grass courts at Wimbledon.

:36:25.:36:30.

This is such a special place. And such an historic place, too. So many

:36:31.:36:35.

wonderful memories for me. It is really good to be here. It is not

:36:36.:36:40.

something that the novelty wears off from, you probably only come here

:36:41.:36:44.

once a year? If you come once a year, the novelty does not wear off.

:36:45.:36:48.

There are so few grass tournaments, it feels really cool. Where would

:36:49.:36:53.

you say you are in your game up a moment, heading into this

:36:54.:36:57.

tournament? I feel pretty good in my game, really confident. Even more, I

:36:58.:37:03.

feel confident in myself right now. That is what matters most. Would you

:37:04.:37:08.

say you pledge -- playing better more than in previous years? I never

:37:09.:37:13.

know. When I am on the practice court, sometimes I feel good,

:37:14.:37:18.

sometimes I like, no, everything has to be totally perfect, if it is not,

:37:19.:37:24.

I am not good enough. I am a bit of a perfectionist, but I think it is

:37:25.:37:28.

pretty good for the most part. So many people focus on age, but when

:37:29.:37:32.

you have the experience and results that you do, and the natural talent

:37:33.:37:37.

you do, does that almost overrated? Something. I'm not sure, definitely

:37:38.:37:43.

something is overriding it. I am not the youngest person. You know, I am

:37:44.:37:53.

still out here doing the best. It is insane, but... I'm not going to as

:37:54.:37:56.

questions, I will just accept it and keep playing! SUE BARKER: She enjoys

:37:57.:38:03.

this surface, she has the game and the serve, for me, the best other

:38:04.:38:08.

serve in women's tennis. Yes, the serving gets her so many free

:38:09.:38:14.

points. And the return, very tip to defend against. The only thing she

:38:15.:38:19.

does not do perfectly, maybe, is cover the net like Venus or Martina,

:38:20.:38:25.

but other than that, this surface is perfect for her. You can hide your

:38:26.:38:29.

nerves better on grass than any other surface by getting some free

:38:30.:38:35.

points. Amra Sadikovic has played Stan Sosa in a Fed cup match, that

:38:36.:38:40.

is the highest ranked higher she has played against. That Macca has

:38:41.:38:45.

played Samantha Stosur. Them times I enjoyed not knowing anything about

:38:46.:38:51.

someone -- sometimes I enjoy. And sizing them up, not in the warm up,

:38:52.:38:58.

but when they play. Serena, I saw her coach yesterday, he had never

:38:59.:39:03.

seen her. We have not seen her, we will learn.

:39:04.:39:10.

She talked about her idols, they have been Roger Federer, Justine

:39:11.:39:13.

Henin and harden and Serena Williams, so here we are! She quit

:39:14.:39:22.

the game, was inspired by another player coming back. Just a dream

:39:23.:39:29.

run. For Sadikovic, this is amazing, to get through your qualifying and

:39:30.:39:35.

your first Centre Court match against Serena Williams. Rather

:39:36.:39:39.

special for Serena, her man is in the French role of the Royal box. I

:39:40.:39:45.

don't think I have seen her in the Royal box, and her other sister was

:39:46.:39:50.

waving from the players' box. There she is. I hope she will enjoy it. I

:39:51.:39:56.

hope Serena does not put her through too much. Something tells me this

:39:57.:40:00.

will not be one of her more stressful watches.

:40:01.:40:07.

This young girl, coming back, coming through the qualifying, you had to

:40:08.:40:12.

embrace the situation. Marcus Willis, he just said, I went out and

:40:13.:40:16.

I was just dancing around, I was not thinking about it being Wimbledon.

:40:17.:40:22.

Let's see how he feels tomorrow on Centre Court explanation mark as

:40:23.:40:27.

James Ward how he was feeling! This court is terrifying. Do you remember

:40:28.:40:33.

your first match out there? Mine was a semifinal against Jimmy Connors, I

:40:34.:40:37.

had never played, I was petrified. My legs were shaking, I felt like my

:40:38.:40:42.

legs were buckling, hyperventilating. That is why I

:40:43.:40:46.

started yelling, to try to... That is my excuse exam Asian I think you

:40:47.:40:52.

did that and other courts as well. Time to let you go to the commentary

:40:53.:40:56.

box, thanks to the Davenport and John McEnroe, time to hand over to

:40:57.:41:04.

Chris Bradley. CHRIS BRADLEY: the number six from

:41:05.:41:09.

Switzerland, she has a high ranking of 148, her first time in the main

:41:10.:41:13.

draw of a Grand Slam. Serena Williams, her 64th Grand Slam. She

:41:14.:41:19.

has only ever lost in the first round once, that was against the

:41:20.:41:23.

Ginny Razzano at the French Open four years ago. As we know in

:41:24.:41:28.

sports, absolutely anything can happen. Ask Iceland!

:41:29.:41:39.

The first meeting between these two. Sadikovic won the spin of the coin

:41:40.:41:43.

and chose to receive. Williams to begin.

:41:44.:42:20.

Six feet one, one metre 85. Serena Williams is five foot nine, 170

:42:21.:42:27.

five. -- 175. LINDSAY DAVENPORT: her challengers

:42:28.:42:53.

to get the return back in play. Slice, block returns, try to make

:42:54.:42:56.

Serena play many balls. JOHN MCENROE: IS she from Iceland,

:42:57.:43:56.

too?! It is happening again! Good to see a slice backhand. Roberta Vinci,

:43:57.:43:58.

and all that. Still break point. Everyone is

:43:59.:44:19.

settling in. You can see that Sadikovic has

:44:20.:45:05.

variety, slice, driving shots from the baseline. She did not make that

:45:06.:45:11.

return, that it is nice to see a player take a second serve and look

:45:12.:45:15.

to move forward on the surface. It is very rare to see an opponent of

:45:16.:45:22.

Serena Williams attackers serve. -- attack her serve.

:45:23.:46:08.

It is a good hold from 15-40. I don't think this will continue, but

:46:09.:46:20.

it seems that Serena is the titre of the two, amazingly. Impossibly, you

:46:21.:46:28.

would think. With your coaching hat on, John, if you were coaching

:46:29.:46:32.

Serena, would you say come out with 100% from the get go, or 60% built?

:46:33.:46:39.

Where would you go? Good question commission mark I would not say to

:46:40.:46:44.

somebody come out but the best players always have an extra gear

:46:45.:46:49.

when they need it. -- I would not say to somebody come out at 60%.

:46:50.:47:00.

I would tell her to let the opponent beat herself. Not to do anything out

:47:01.:47:04.

of the ordinary. They relatively safe early on to see if they

:47:05.:47:09.

self-destruct before you even have to do anything. -- they relatively

:47:10.:47:12.

safe early on. -- play relatively safe.

:47:13.:47:30.

We have seen Serena over the years start very slow, that catches up to

:47:31.:47:35.

a player as they get older. Maybe some more losses come into play.

:47:36.:47:38.

There is no question that that time she could start off with more

:47:39.:47:43.

energy, bouncing around more -- there is no question that at times.

:47:44.:47:48.

She almost always picks the game up as the match goes on. Wow! That is a

:47:49.:48:07.

frightener. This serve is an issue. It looks to me like the weakest part

:48:08.:48:15.

of her game. She does not look comfortable with that service motion

:48:16.:48:17.

at all, Sadikovic. Eight points in a row for Serena

:48:18.:48:24.

Williams. Before the match started, we talked

:48:25.:49:35.

about possibly being one of the quickest matches in Wimbledon

:49:36.:49:40.

history. Certainly, right now, Serena starts finding this type of

:49:41.:49:43.

range, all of her shots, aggression and consistency, it could be fast.

:49:44.:49:52.

It is a double-edged sword for the Swiss, the greatest day of her life,

:49:53.:50:01.

but... Tennis live, anyway. The best on the

:50:02.:50:07.

worst on the same day? 90 minutes is the quickest much year we could

:50:08.:50:13.

find. Before changeovers. I was going to say Steffi versus who? She

:50:14.:50:19.

did not play that long ago! Whilst we have the time, we should

:50:20.:50:50.

really tell the Sadikovic story. Born in Macedonia, she lives inserts

:50:51.:50:55.

are learnt, she has only made $106,000 in her career, $30,000 this

:50:56.:51:00.

year, a couple of years ago she quit the sport because she was not

:51:01.:51:04.

enjoying it any more, financially she could not support herself. It

:51:05.:51:09.

was the story of Tamayo pitching ski, she had also quit, she was

:51:10.:51:13.

waitressing in a hotel, she was a strange from her father, she

:51:14.:51:16.

realised she could get into the qualifying for the French and

:51:17.:51:20.

thought, I will drive myself, it is my decision, I will play, and the

:51:21.:51:25.

rest is history. It is a lovely story in that it has inspired

:51:26.:51:30.

another Swiss to restart. And who would have thought that having made

:51:31.:51:33.

that decision she would be standing on the Centre Court at Wimbledon?

:51:34.:51:41.

And playing, arguably, the greatest player, all, to me, the greatest

:51:42.:51:46.

player that has ever played tennis. This is where it gets a little

:51:47.:51:49.

dicey. Just ask James Ward from yesterday. He came out of the match

:51:50.:51:59.

yesterday pretty darn well considering where it was headed.

:52:00.:52:04.

Let's see if this young lady can calm herself down. For Samantha

:52:05.:52:13.

tall, to seem to have such an issue with her serve, it is somewhat

:52:14.:52:17.

surprising -- for someone who is that tall.

:52:18.:52:49.

That is a much better serve. It went up after that toss. She seems to be

:52:50.:52:59.

overthinking this serve, trying to throw too much variety, instead of

:53:00.:53:00.

focusing on getting it in. There is no question, the intensity

:53:01.:53:18.

is there from Serena. Often you can tell by looking at her eyes when she

:53:19.:53:25.

walks on court, watching her at the changeovers. She is ready to go.

:53:26.:53:35.

She used her height well to find that angle.

:53:36.:54:51.

She had chances in the first game, that return game. Sadikovic was not

:54:52.:54:59.

able to come through. She wants to get onto the board here as soon as

:55:00.:55:02.

possible. It is always a bad feeling to have a lots of games go by and

:55:03.:55:08.

not get onto the scoreboard. You already know this when you walk out

:55:09.:55:14.

on court, that just intensifies it. -- you are already nervous when you

:55:15.:55:16.

walk out on court. We don't see this often in women's

:55:17.:56:35.

tennis, a serve and volley. Did not quite drop that volley short enough,

:56:36.:56:41.

Serena, got a good hit on it but overplayed it. Sadikovic showing

:56:42.:56:45.

lots of variety out in court. Different shots and options.

:56:46.:57:10.

We were very aware of what is at stake for this player to get onto

:57:11.:57:25.

the board, to get rid of some of those butterflies.

:57:26.:58:25.

Normally goes after the second serve more. Setting it up for the tour

:58:26.:58:32.

Swiss player. -- the tall. Got to hit that forehand is a little

:58:33.:59:14.

bit harder. Sadikovic had a little bit of time there. You have to take

:59:15.:59:19.

your chances, if you have them, against Serena.

:59:20.:59:45.

Two double faults in a game already. That is very rare. As John

:59:46.:59:56.

mentioned, the second serve is going in very tentatively. Not confident

:59:57.:59:57.

with that shot yet. It is amazing watching her serve

:59:58.:00:27.

like this. Trying to hurt her. Another break point.

:00:28.:00:46.

The first strained "Come on" from Serena. We are getting used to that.

:00:47.:01:02.

If you are going to hit a ball 100 mph, you want to hit it right in the

:01:03.:01:22.

wheelhouse. That is what Serena did there. Put a little more on it.

:01:23.:01:28.

Placed it better. Three double faults in the game, but

:01:29.:02:10.

still haunts. -- still holds. STUDIO: Serena not

:02:11.:02:27.

at her best but still 4-1 up on this opening round on Centre Court. The

:02:28.:02:33.

match we left, Richard Gasquet, he is a break of serve up against

:02:34.:02:38.

Britain's number two, Aljaz Bedene. Two sets to love and a break of

:02:39.:02:42.

serve the last year's semifinalist on court three. You can watch that

:02:43.:02:49.

on the red button. We do have 15 courts available online, connected

:02:50.:02:56.

TVs as well. Nick Kyrgios served for the match and is now 4-1 down in the

:02:57.:03:01.

tie-break. Getting a little bit more vocal out on Court Number Two, not

:03:02.:03:03.

going his way. He is in a battle now against

:03:04.:03:12.

37-year-old Radek Stepanek. You can follow that online. Over on Court

:03:13.:03:18.

One, Stan Wawrinka, the fourth seed begins Taylor Fritz, the 18-year-old

:03:19.:03:23.

future superstar from America. On serve, no break point in this match

:03:24.:03:27.

so far. You can also follow that match online. We will keep you

:03:28.:03:31.

up-to-date with what is happening elsewhere but back we go to centre.

:03:32.:03:37.

ANDREW CASTLE: A fixed stare for Serena during that sit down. Easy

:03:38.:03:47.

for me to say. But she seemed so wound up and not really happy to be

:03:48.:03:55.

competing, which is extremely surprising, given that she has won

:03:56.:04:01.

21 Grand Slams in singles. Did you ever have it, John, when you wanted

:04:02.:04:10.

it to bag? -- you wanted it too bad? Guess, often, but I think it is

:04:11.:04:13.

counter-productive if she wants to continue enjoying playing on this

:04:14.:04:24.

surface. In the pretournament press conference, she didn't give much

:04:25.:04:28.

away. Very short answers, but one question about pressure, she

:04:29.:04:31.

basically said I don't feel any pressure. That was the extent of her

:04:32.:04:36.

answer, compare that to Novak, he had a long answer on the reality of

:04:37.:04:40.

having so much pressure at number one in the world, how you handle it

:04:41.:04:44.

and how you deal with it in your everyday life and on the court. They

:04:45.:04:50.

should have dinner together. It is almost as if she is in denial.

:04:51.:05:00.

She is showing some real nice variety of shot. A pretty good job

:05:01.:05:24.

of keeping Serena Williams off-balance.

:05:25.:06:14.

Tried to cut it to close. The court must feel so small playing Serena.

:06:15.:06:27.

Every shot so tough. There is a lot of pressure, if you don't hit it

:06:28.:06:32.

perfectly, Serena with her explosive speed, not only is she going to get

:06:33.:06:36.

to that ball, but there is a good chance she will send it back with

:06:37.:06:37.

interest. James Keothavong of Great Britain

:06:38.:07:06.

intervening. UMPIRE: Correction. Replay the point. Hawk-Eye there, a

:07:07.:07:19.

pretty obvious overall. First serve, maybe get another game here.

:07:20.:07:27.

APPLAUSE The reaction from Serena,

:07:28.:07:38.

extraordinary! We saw that a against Razzano at the French, four years

:07:39.:07:49.

ago. As John said, there are so much tension. She is so wound up. She was

:07:50.:07:55.

a set and a break-up against Razzano. She missed a shot, that

:07:56.:07:59.

sort of reaction, and she struggled for the rest the match. She often

:08:00.:08:10.

says, doesn't she, my toughest opponent is the one I look at in the

:08:11.:08:12.

mirror. Sadikovic, she is feeding off her

:08:13.:09:03.

attention and the energy, actually believing she can make something of

:09:04.:09:04.

this. APPLAUSE

:09:05.:09:36.

She extends the lead. When Pete Sampras was reigning

:09:37.:10:29.

supreme here, winning almost fun year after year, the year he won to

:10:30.:10:34.

overtake Roy Emerson in the record books, he openly wept on his

:10:35.:10:37.

father's shot in the stand. His father was nowhere near the player's

:10:38.:10:42.

area, completely isolated, but he found him and cried, he sobbed,

:10:43.:10:47.

because he had broken new ground. It is going to be very difficult. Rena

:10:48.:10:55.

to do it by that example. Serena is doing something that I think is

:10:56.:11:00.

rather amazing in a number of ways. I am trying to remember the last

:11:01.:11:04.

time I did not pick Serena to win the Grand Slam. Most obviously 99

:11:05.:11:10.

out of 100 people would pick her here. Close to the same at the open

:11:11.:11:18.

or Australia. Marginally less at the French couple of years ago, maybe

:11:19.:11:24.

five or six years ago. To have to live with the expectations that

:11:25.:11:28.

long. For the most part she has done an incredibly good job. Specially

:11:29.:11:33.

given the fact that if you look at the top players, how many they won

:11:34.:11:40.

later on in their careers, post 30. Her being with Patrick Drewes last

:11:41.:11:44.

few years I think has given her a new zest for competing and right now

:11:45.:11:50.

it has been going on long enough that he has got to find new ways to

:11:51.:11:58.

get her relaxed. New balls in play for Sadikovic, serving to stay in

:11:59.:12:02.

the second set. Maybe what Patrick needs to do is organise dinner with

:12:03.:12:09.

Serena and Pete Sampras. Share it. He is weeping right now as Federer

:12:10.:12:21.

got by him. Didn't last long. Nadal is tired and now Novak is closing

:12:22.:12:23.

in. Shielding from the sun with the left

:12:24.:12:53.

arm. To see Serena so dominant at this age. Steffi walked away from

:12:54.:13:02.

the sport at 29. 29 years of age. She easily could have played a few

:13:03.:13:08.

more years, such a phenomenal athlete, and win slams. But she has

:13:09.:13:13.

lost the desire. For Serena, 35, and still going at this level. Certain

:13:14.:13:20.

challenges of competing as you get older. You are much more aware of

:13:21.:13:26.

the opportunities, what you are playing for. For Serena's case,

:13:27.:13:29.

history. Three set points. That is too good from Sadikovic.

:13:30.:13:53.

Moved into the court beautifully for this backhand. Let, first service.

:13:54.:14:15.

APPLAUSE She continues to be willing to move

:14:16.:15:26.

forward and serve and volleyer. That height, a good thing. Covers the net

:15:27.:15:27.

well. Fourth time. Wraps up the first set

:15:28.:17:07.

for Serena Williams in 35 minutes. Just going back to the fact that

:17:08.:17:11.

Serena is the third oldest in the draw here, throughout her career,

:17:12.:17:15.

since she first started, let's go back, if you like, to 1997. She has

:17:16.:17:21.

averaged only ten tournaments a year her entire career. That helps

:17:22.:17:28.

longevity. What we first thought would Heurtaux has actually ended up

:17:29.:17:32.

helping her. Often times we have said if she wanted to be none the

:17:33.:17:36.

one, she needed to play more just a build-up that confidence, but she

:17:37.:17:38.

seems to be one of the few players I have ever seen that can go months

:17:39.:17:43.

without playing, step on a court at a major event and potentially win

:17:44.:17:46.

it. That she has played more recently and I think that has helped

:17:47.:17:51.

her manage her schedule. What's Lindsay talked about earlier in the

:17:52.:17:56.

opening, about being devastated obviously by losing that match in

:17:57.:18:01.

the open, contributed big-time to why she has played so little since

:18:02.:18:06.

then. So considering that, the fact she was in the finals, and she

:18:07.:18:12.

should have beaten Kerber. I am not going to say the same with Muguruza

I think. Muguruza outplayed her, but she was in the finals of both of

these. She is still putting herself in that position, so if she can get

:18:21.:18:26.

over the hump and when this. She will feel better about moving

:18:27.:18:29.

forward, training that much harder that she can break the record and

:18:30.:18:33.

get a couple more before she tries something else in her life. Does it

:18:34.:18:42.

become easier for is at the same problem when she gets to 23? I think

:18:43.:18:49.

she's just ticking the boxes she goes. One was to was to go to a team

with Christine and Martin never out of leather. -- Martina Navratilova.

And then head the 24, 25, and break it.

Maria Bueno, three times a championship. Brazilian, beautiful

player. Enjoying the Royal Box. Unlucky. Serena showing a little

feel there with that forehand volley. It is hard not to compare

Venus Williams and Serena. Venus understands where to cover the

Anglos, has aways been a bit more comfortable at the net. Her second

:20:57.:21:11.

has been vulnerable over the years, Venus. Maybe some rain tomorrow. Sir

:21:12.:21:17.

Cliff Richard probably the only person disappointed that Wimbledon

:21:18.:21:25.

put a roof on Centre Court. Many a year and time did we hear him sing.

:21:26.:21:32.

Another very important service game for the Swiss.

:21:33.:21:42.

Serena's Reckitt sounds a lot tighter than normal. Easier to

:21:43.:21:56.

control when the strings are tied. But if you tense up, then the ball

:21:57.:21:59.

doesn't come off as quickly. APPLAUSE

:22:00.:22:17.

Good use of the slice APPLAUSE

:22:18.:23:32.

Good use of the slice again, too. Another very important game for this

:23:33.:24:18.

27-year-old qualifier. Two breaks in the opening set. Nervous start

:24:19.:24:22.

understandably but she had those break points right at the start of

:24:23.:24:24.

the match against Serena Williams, who also was very tight. She

scoreboard here. Well done! CHEERING

The crowd want her to do so well. I think the crowd appreciates, number

one, her ability to handle the situation. And also watches bringing

:25:11.:25:12.

blunt, she is trying everything to throw Serena off, and she has had

:25:13.:25:14.

some chances. A good example of it again there.

:25:15.:25:25.

Good variety on the backhand. The slice has been effective. She has

:25:26.:25:31.

been disruptive when she has been on top of the game. A couple of weak

:25:32.:25:34.

points, the second serve, where Serena has time to attack and play

:25:35.:25:39.

her style of tennis, but anyone who can utilise their feel, touch,

:25:40.:25:44.

slice, move forward, and at the same time still drive some ground strokes

:25:45.:25:54.

as well. Serena has not been getting much with them from her opponent.

SUE BARKER: VR leaving this match on Centre Court on BBC Two because it

:26:25.:26:32.

continues right now on BBC One, so if you want to continue watching

:26:33.:26:36.

Centre Court now, switch over to BBC One. We will be heading to Court

:26:37.:26:43.

Number Two in a moment, but not good news for Aljaz Bedene, he has lost

:26:44.:26:46.

last year's semifinalist, Richard Gasquet. A solid performance from

:26:47.:26:52.

the seventh seed, who seems to be playing the best tennis of his

:26:53.:26:55.

career, Richard Gasquet. He is through in straight sets. Bedene's

:26:56.:27:01.

challenge here at Wimbledon is over in the opening round. So we are

:27:02.:27:06.

heading to Court Number Two, getting a bit fiery in this match. Nick

:27:07.:27:11.

Kyrgios has been given a code violation for swearing. Having a

:27:12.:27:14.

constant barrage with the umpire that he is in control in this match.

:27:15.:27:20.

So let's join this match with Peter Fleming and Andrew Cotter.

:27:21.:27:29.

ANDREW COTTER: Lively indeed, but this is the man, Nick Kyrgios,

:27:30.:27:39.

serving for the match. A prolonged tie-break which Stefan at eventually

:27:40.:27:43.

took -- which Stepanek eventually tie-break which Stefan at eventually

took, and took -- which Stepanek eventually

:27:45.:27:49.

took, and here we are. Let, first service.

:27:50.:28:11.

We will give you a reprieve of the ongoing tussle between Krygios and

:28:12.:28:18.

the umpire in a moment. Just when you think you've got

:28:19.:29:09.

it all sorted... ..things don't turn out

:29:10.:29:11.

quite as you'd expected. But then, no-one said it

:29:12.:29:29.

was going to be easy.
