MUSIC A winner over Andy back in 2008. One

:00:47.:01:01.

of the worst defeats of his career. A fiery start here.

:01:02.:01:11.

Beautiful. Even by his standards, that was something special. Steady

:01:12.:01:17.

as she goes. Six games in a row from Murray. He's giving this guy some

:01:18.:01:26.

serious body blows. Painful. A tour deforce for Andy Murray. Welcome to

:01:27.:01:30.

day five of Wimbledon, where Andy Murray is safely into the third

:01:31.:01:34.

round of the men's singles. He has looked in impressive form so far.

:01:35.:01:37.

That can't be said for the other star names. Gone are the days when

:01:38.:01:40.

the seeds make it safely through to the second week. Just yesterday, 18

:01:41.:01:47.

seeds went out. The highest ranked world number two Garbine Mugarutha.

:01:48.:02:00.

Dan Evans lost in the qualifying here last year. He's now inside the

:02:01.:02:06.

top 100. He's won his first match here at Wimbledon. He's won two, in

:02:07.:02:12.

fact. Today he faces Roger Federer. His compatriot Stanislas Wawrinka is

:02:13.:02:16.

on Court No 1 later today. No, Centre Court today. He's first up on

:02:17.:02:20.

Centre Court. He's not worried about the weather. Nick Kyrgios will, he's

:02:21.:02:25.

on court number two. He came through a fascinating match against Radek

:02:26.:02:29.

Stepanek. Now he takes on Dustin Brown. Venus Williams was out on

:02:30.:02:33.

court 18 and many felt that wasn't fair for a five-time champion. But

:02:34.:02:37.

today she will open up on Court No 1. Britain's Tara Moore is the last

:02:38.:02:43.

British woman standing. She's got a tough match today up against a

:02:44.:02:53.

two-time Grand Slam winner Svetlana Kuznetsova.

:02:54.:03:20.

Veens first up against a very exciting 19-year-old. -- Venus.

:03:21.:03:38.

Other matches we'll be keeping an eye on, I mentioned Nick Kyrgios. We

:03:39.:03:45.

remember Dustin Brown when he beat Rafael Nadal last year. That is a

:03:46.:03:47.

must-see match for us. So, hello once again. We have

:03:48.:04:05.

retreated into the studio because you could probably see behind me, we

:04:06.:04:09.

haven't got play under way. It was supposed to get under way at 11am.

:04:10.:04:14.

We have plenty to talk about in the company of John Lloyd and Jaky

:04:15.:04:18.

Baker. It's all about the weather, isn't it, and the committee have

:04:19.:04:22.

made the decision on Centre Court, they have not closed the roof. That

:04:23.:04:26.

hopes that there is good weather on the way. They've got the radar

:04:27.:04:30.

working and hopefully we'll have dry weather. We're heading off to court

:04:31.:04:34.

number two. Play was due to get under way at 11am. No play at the

:04:35.:04:40.

moment. Let's find out when we're going to get play and how much from

:04:41.:04:44.

the person with all the answers, Carol.

:04:45.:04:49.

Sue, at the moment the cloud is building, there's some rain not far

:04:50.:04:52.

away from Wimbledon. There are showers as well. I reckon it won't

:04:53.:04:58.

be until about 1pm, 2pm that we start to see things brightening up.

:04:59.:05:01.

That doesn't mean that we're looking at a completely dry afternoon. There

:05:02.:05:05.

is still the risk of showers. Like yesterday, it just is a risk. But we

:05:06.:05:09.

should start to see sunshine coming through, even into the evening. It's

:05:10.:05:14.

a small risk of a shower. Having said that, there will be a lot of

:05:15.:05:18.

dry weather around. Blustery though today. If you're in that combination

:05:19.:05:21.

of the showers and the blustery wind, it does feel rather cool.

:05:22.:05:28.

Tomorrow, once again, the greatest risk of showers is around the lunch

:05:29.:05:32.

time period. Through the rest of the afternoon, the risk diminishes.

:05:33.:05:34.

We'll see a bit more sunshine develop. Still quite blustery too.

:05:35.:05:40.

Although it looks pretty gloomy at the moment, it is an improving

:05:41.:05:44.

picture as we go through this afternoon.

:05:45.:05:48.

That certainly is good news, that it's going to be improving and

:05:49.:05:51.

hopefully we will get some play. So many great matches to look forward

:05:52.:05:56.

to. While we await play on the first Friday of the championships. Let's

:05:57.:05:59.

look back to yesterday and Andy Murray. He was on Centre Court

:06:00.:06:05.

against Yen-Hsun Lu. He dropped his opening service game, then he took

:06:06.:06:08.

control of the match and raced through it in straight sets. Murray

:06:09.:06:14.

in impressive form on Centre Court, against someone we thought could be

:06:15.:06:20.

a tricky opponent. He beat Roddick a few years ago. But 6-3, 6-2, 6-1.

:06:21.:06:27.

After the match he spoke to Andrew Cotter.

:06:28.:06:31.

Business-like, impressive performance. I suppose at this stage

:06:32.:06:35.

it's about getting things done and moving on without expending too much

:06:36.:06:39.

energy. Yeah, if possible. I want to obviously try and play as best as

:06:40.:06:48.

you can, you know. My opponent today, he'd won 11 matches in a row

:06:49.:06:51.

on the match, ten at the challenger level. I expected him to play well.

:06:52.:06:55.

He started off the match really good. I had to make a few changes

:06:56.:07:01.

and adjustments out there. Ended up finishing the match strong and

:07:02.:07:04.

without using too much energy. A good day. You mentioned his record,

:07:05.:07:12.

three, two and one against an opponent of that calibre, how far

:07:13.:07:16.

off your best are you? I think I finished the match really well. At

:07:17.:07:21.

the start I was tentative at the beginning, but as the match went on,

:07:22.:07:26.

I started to hit the ball better and better. Was feeling a bit more

:07:27.:07:30.

comfortable with my movement. Yeah, I just need to keep building on

:07:31.:07:34.

that. Yeah, it was a good match for sure. Contrast that to the first two

:07:35.:07:39.

rounds at Roland Garros, five setters, that can pay dividends

:07:40.:07:43.

later in the tournament. Yeah, it can do, for sure. I've never been in

:07:44.:07:49.

the position I was in at Roland Garros before. I've never played

:07:50.:07:53.

back-to-back five setters in the first couple of rounds. It takes a

:07:54.:07:57.

bit out of you physically and mentally as well, the long days,

:07:58.:08:02.

those ones as well. Yeah, if you can get through matches, obviously, the

:08:03.:08:07.

quicker the better. Don't need to be particularly smart to work that out.

:08:08.:08:11.

How has your time between matches changed? Your life's changed, used

:08:12.:08:17.

to be go home and watch a few DVDs, now you have paternal

:08:18.:08:20.

responsibilities. Mind you it's quite late, but what do you do

:08:21.:08:24.

between matches? On the off days, obviously, I have a lot more time on

:08:25.:08:29.

my hands, spend a lot more time at home with the family, which is nice.

:08:30.:08:35.

It's good to take your mind off the tennis and I find that very

:08:36.:08:44.

relaxing. You'll find it's stressful. That's nice. On the match

:08:45.:08:48.

days it's different because a rived here at the courts today at 9. 30am.

:08:49.:08:54.

I won't be home until 9pm at night. Today's a work day, and tomorrow, I

:08:55.:09:00.

get a little bit more time off. Talking about what he does, I was

:09:01.:09:03.

reading about what happens after the match. It's the shower, then the ice

:09:04.:09:08.

bath, then maybe a warm down on the bike. Then he does his media

:09:09.:09:13.

commitments, then a massage. It's a two, three-hour routine before he

:09:14.:09:17.

can even head home. Yeah, and it's such a finely-tuned routine now.

:09:18.:09:20.

He's so used to these big matches. He was kind of laughing at the

:09:21.:09:24.

question there, because he's saying on a match day he's no help to

:09:25.:09:28.

anyone other than himself. You're right, so many things to go through.

:09:29.:09:32.

Over the years, he's been so focussed on his recovery and routine

:09:33.:09:36.

and taking care of everything he can control so that when he steps on

:09:37.:09:39.

court, he knows that he's absolutely ready. And also, when he steps on

:09:40.:09:46.

court, he was talking about, "I just made a few adjustments." He's a

:09:47.:09:50.

great reader of the game. He didn't know a lot of Yen-Hsun Lu. Reads the

:09:51.:09:55.

game and makes the adjustments. He's a great tactition. He is. I like the

:09:56.:10:00.

fact on the women's circuit, other than the grand slams, they allow

:10:01.:10:04.

coaching on the court. I'm totally against that. Andy just said, he had

:10:05.:10:08.

to make the adjustments. You don't want a coach coming off after a set

:10:09.:10:11.

and telling you what you're doing wrong. You've got to figure it out.

:10:12.:10:15.

That's why this sport is so great. It's one on one, if you're playing

:10:16.:10:19.

badly, find a way to do something to beat your opponent. Andy's a master

:10:20.:10:24.

of that. He has six or seven game plans. That's what the great players

:10:25.:10:28.

have. He was in impressive form yesterday. He raised the level of

:10:29.:10:32.

his game after dropping the opening serve. That's often a characteristic

:10:33.:10:38.

of his matches. He plays his way in. Sometimes you see Roger Federer come

:10:39.:10:41.

out, especially on grass, and there'll be winners flying off his

:10:42.:10:44.

racquet from the start, very aggressive. Andy likes to feel his

:10:45.:10:48.

way into the match. You don't often see him win a match, one, one and

:10:49.:10:53.

one. This was three, two and one. This was a drubbing from Andy's

:10:54.:10:57.

point of view. But he worked everything out within the first 35,

:10:58.:11:00.

40 minutes, then it was one-way traffic from there. Just illustrated

:11:01.:11:05.

there, he talked about his movement. It's so hard to get the ball away

:11:06.:11:10.

from him. It is. And what he does is - Look at this! It's ridiculous. He

:11:11.:11:15.

shrinks the court. After a while players think well, they have to hit

:11:16.:11:18.

closer and closer to the line to have a chance to get past him. There

:11:19.:11:23.

he is. Instinctively he moves. He knows where the ball's going, he

:11:24.:11:26.

reads it. Where did that drop shot come from? No-one else would hardly

:11:27.:11:30.

have had the imagination to go for that let alone make it happen.

:11:31.:11:36.

That's why he's so special. And also, the variety of shots. When

:11:37.:11:40.

you're so used to, as an opponent, when you're used to Andy shaping up

:11:41.:11:46.

for a slice backhand, normally that goes deep. If you throw in a drop

:11:47.:11:50.

shot, suddenly the opponent have no idea what you're going to do. It's

:11:51.:11:54.

funny looked at the full stretch, chasing balls and Andy often comes

:11:55.:11:59.

up with a winner. Had eoffal has a lot of practice in matches. But at

:12:00.:12:05.

the end of the practice session he has 10, 20 of those so he knows when

:12:06.:12:09.

it comes in a match he's done it all before. He's got his practice out of

:12:10.:12:16.

the way early today. This is Andy out on court and the team, we keep

:12:17.:12:26.

talking about Ivan Lendl. Let's not underestimate Jamie Delgado in his

:12:27.:12:31.

corner. He's done a seamless job. Andy's 29 now, for any new people to

:12:32.:12:35.

come into the camp, it's really about how do they settle in. They

:12:36.:12:38.

don't want to come in and change anything. He's doing so well. He's

:12:39.:12:42.

obviously won two Grand Slam titles. He's very relaxed just now. Coming

:12:43.:12:47.

into the grass, having had his best ever clay court season, he must be

:12:48.:12:50.

feeling great. I bumped into his a few times in the morning and at

:12:51.:12:53.

Wimbledon he drives himself into the courts. That's basically his quiet

:12:54.:12:57.

time. Nobody comes in the car H edrives himself. When he arrives,

:12:58.:13:01.

he's ready for business. Going through the motions, he's going to

:13:02.:13:06.

attack. Practising the volleys here. That's his motivation here, his goal

:13:07.:13:09.

to keep being aggressive and keep going forward throughout the

:13:10.:13:12.

tournament. Absolutely. What I like about him, I like the second serve

:13:13.:13:18.

has been a big improvement, technically and the pace he hits

:13:19.:13:21.

now, I love the way now he takes on the ball on the service returns as

:13:22.:13:29.

well, moving in closer. If you get a second serve, if you don't hit it

:13:30.:13:33.

close to the line, he's all over you. Then you're done. Little

:13:34.:13:36.

adjustments that he's made and he can keep doing that. He sees the

:13:37.:13:40.

ball so early. He's so technically proficient. He can make the

:13:41.:13:46.

adjustments when he needs to. Tomorrow he's back on court, what do

:13:47.:13:51.

we know about John Millman. I've played him a few times, a few years

:13:52.:13:56.

ago. He's a standard, modern-day player, baseline. He won't do

:13:57.:14:00.

anything particularly differently to the other players. He doesn't have a

:14:01.:14:03.

huge amount of variety. This is where these types of matches

:14:04.:14:09.

fascinating for Ivan Lendl in the camp. They have to focus on every

:14:10.:14:13.

single round. Andy knows now if he goes on the court against these

:14:14.:14:18.

guys, if he plays six, seven out of ten, he's going to win. I'm

:14:19.:14:22.

intrigued as to how much the conversation between those guys

:14:23.:14:25.

early in the tournament is - how do we get close to Djokovic? How do we

:14:26.:14:30.

bridge that gap and win that match? He's obviously taking every match

:14:31.:14:34.

seriously, but the big goal, and I think on this surface, this is the

:14:35.:14:37.

best surface for him to face Djokovic. I agree. I think the

:14:38.:14:41.

environment here is also the best as Jamie was saying, talking about his

:14:42.:14:44.

home life. I think he's more relaxed here. He knows grass so well. His

:14:45.:14:48.

movement is fantastic. I think he gets a lot of free points on his

:14:49.:14:51.

serve here. I think this is his best chance to beat Novak Djokovic in any

:14:52.:14:57.

of the grand slams. Let's do it one match at a time, it's John Millman.

:14:58.:15:01.

I'm glad I asked that question since you've played him so many times.

:15:02.:15:04.

We're heading outside because they are preparing the courts. This is

:15:05.:15:08.

really good news. The nets are up. The ball boys and girls are out.

:15:09.:15:14.

Things are looking promising, that we will get some play very soon.

:15:15.:15:17.

That is great news here at Wimbledon. Everyone scurrying to

:15:18.:15:22.

their seats. Though that dark sky behind doesn't look too encouraging!

:15:23.:15:26.

Everyone scurrying there and trying to get down to court two to see Nick

:15:27.:15:31.

Kyrgios and Dustin Brown. That's where we will go to see live play.

:15:32.:15:36.

Let's look back to Dan Evans and his amazing Wimbledon journey. Won his

:15:37.:15:42.

first match and then he faced Alexandr Dolgopolov yesterday. He

:15:43.:15:46.

came through that one, beating the 30th seed. He's through to the first

:15:47.:15:49.

round to face Roger Federer. After his victory yesterday, he spoke to

:15:50.:15:54.

John Inverdale. COMMENTATOR: Well, this is a fine

:15:55.:16:02.

start. Oh, what a way to win it! Absolutely electric start from Dan

:16:03.:16:08.

Evans. A truly convincing victory by the British player. He goes through

:16:09.:16:14.

to round three, where the Centre Court awaits him and on the other

:16:15.:16:17.

side Roger Federer. This is a fantastic opportunity for

:16:18.:16:23.

you, isn't it? Yeah, it's a tough opportunity, but you know, stranger

:16:24.:16:26.

things have happened. What an end to the day here at Wimbledon. The

:16:27.:16:32.

defending champion is out. There is a chance I can go out there and win.

:16:33.:16:37.

Obviously, I understand on the other hand, I could, he could come out

:16:38.:16:41.

flying and give me a good seeing to. It's going to be tough. I'm really

:16:42.:16:46.

looking forward to it. I can't wait to get out there. People talk about

:16:47.:16:50.

this in the context of you about opportunities taken and then missed

:16:51.:16:53.

and squandered. Do you now feel, finally, that you're on the upward

:16:54.:16:57.

curve and this is just the next stage this afternoon? Yeah, you

:16:58.:17:00.

know, I'd like to think now that when I get the opportunities I give

:17:01.:17:05.

it my best chance and to fulfilling it. Whereas before I didn't give

:17:06.:17:11.

those opportunities the chance and give myself the best chance. Now I

:17:12.:17:15.

think I am doing that and hopefully give everything I've got. I'll be

:17:16.:17:18.

out there fighting. Can you pin point any particular area of your

:17:19.:17:22.

game now that is much more solid, more reliable, much more dynamic, if

:17:23.:17:24.

you like, that's making the difference? I think I'm serving a

:17:25.:17:30.

lot better now, definitely second serves a lot better. I've been

:17:31.:17:33.

working hard on my movement and fitness. I've been moving much

:17:34.:17:38.

better than I used to. I'm looking forward to hopefully putting it on

:17:39.:17:41.

the court. What does a match like this mean for the people around you,

:17:42.:17:45.

the coaching team, family, things like that, it must be a massive

:17:46.:17:49.

boost for them? It is. But we're all going to come to Wimbledon and have

:17:50.:17:53.

a day out on me, it's not that. It's a serious game of tennis. I've got

:17:54.:17:57.

to take that opportunity which I've been given. Rightly so, I come

:17:58.:18:00.

through the first and second rounds. I've got to prepare properly like I

:18:01.:18:04.

would for any other match and get myself mentally ready for it's going

:18:05.:18:08.

to be a big stage. Can you treat it like any other match? It is another

:18:09.:18:14.

match, obviously it's against probably the greatest player that's

:18:15.:18:18.

ever played tennis. I have to put that to the back of my head until

:18:19.:18:23.

the end of the match. It's difficult, but I'll have to do that.

:18:24.:18:30.

It is third on Centre Court. By his own admission he hasn't always been

:18:31.:18:33.

dedicated to the sport. He has gone up and down. This time last year, he

:18:34.:18:37.

lost in qualifying, ranked 763. Now in the top 100. It's that journey to

:18:38.:18:43.

commit yourself, to travel round all the Challengers, to all the places

:18:44.:18:46.

in the world, full marks to him. Yeah and there's been a lot of talk

:18:47.:18:49.

about his roller coaster ride. This year alone, he's been to three

:18:50.:18:53.

Challenger finals and won one of them. He decided not to play the

:18:54.:18:57.

clay this year to put in a training block and get ready for grass. So

:18:58.:19:02.

many impressive things in his performance against Dolgopolov the

:19:03.:19:05.

other day. The biggest thing for me, as a British player as Wimbledon,

:19:06.:19:08.

quite often you see people almost kind of play in their shell and

:19:09.:19:15.

maybe just, it's very hard to express your self-as a player. For

:19:16.:19:19.

him, he was so free and relaxed. The way he played it was a joy to watch.

:19:20.:19:23.

Everyone will be questioning oh, did Dolgopolov go away? Did his will

:19:24.:19:30.

kind of fade? It wasn't that. Dan simply outplayed him, a guy 30 in

:19:31.:19:34.

the world and has been top 20. Having never won a match at

:19:35.:19:41.

Wimbledon, to come here and win two matches, they're two impressive

:19:42.:19:46.

winds. Very much. So He's had the talent for so many years. We all

:19:47.:19:51.

thought at first, top 50 possibly. His work ethic has not been great,

:19:52.:19:56.

at times, to put it mildly. The talent there, the variety he's got,

:19:57.:20:00.

it separates him from a lot of players. He's willing to come to the

:20:01.:20:04.

net. He's one of the best technical volleyers in the world. His movement

:20:05.:20:08.

is better now. A lovely slice backhand. That was a bit short

:20:09.:20:12.

there, but his variety is so much better now. He's now at 100%

:20:13.:20:17.

commitment. Whatever he does in his career, if he can get to the end of

:20:18.:20:20.

his career and say he's done, that he can be proud of himself. Because

:20:21.:20:24.

before he wasn't anywhere near 1 hundred per commitment for the vast

:20:25.:20:27.

majority of his career. Now he's stepping up to the plate and getting

:20:28.:20:32.

his rewards. Will he gets as -- get as many chances today against

:20:33.:20:35.

Federer as in these two matches? No, obviously today is a completely ask.

:20:36.:20:40.

The one thing I will say and on the grass court, he has got the variety

:20:41.:20:44.

that is absolutely perfect for a grass court. He can change the pace.

:20:45.:20:48.

He can hit a lot of slice. When he gets the opportunity to actually

:20:49.:20:52.

attack, he does that. And he does have the hands and he has the court

:20:53.:20:56.

positional sense to come into the net. Perhaps the biggest thing today

:20:57.:21:00.

from Dan's point of view is that his attitude, I know the way he is and

:21:01.:21:04.

his personality, he won't be overawed by the situation. He

:21:05.:21:08.

doesn't come out and think, oh, I'm playing Federer, I have to be

:21:09.:21:11.

respectful and play a nice match. He's had wins in Davis Cups that he

:21:12.:21:16.

had no right to win, frankly. I think it's going to be a match

:21:17.:21:18.

today. That stands out. He's a gritty competitor. Yeah, and I agree

:21:19.:21:23.

with Jamie. I think he'll embrace the occasion. I think he has that

:21:24.:21:26.

mind set. Whatever happens in this match, the crowd will be treated.

:21:27.:21:31.

Because Federer obviously, the talent he's got, but Dan Evans,

:21:32.:21:34.

people will be surprised how talented he is. There will be great

:21:35.:21:37.

points that happen in this match no matter what happens. I'm looking

:21:38.:21:42.

forward to. It I think he will do better than people think. Where will

:21:43.:21:45.

he hurt Federer or where is he going to win his points? By being agracive

:21:46.:21:50.

and -- aggressive and with variety. In the Dolgopolov match, he was

:21:51.:21:54.

running around the second serve and hitting a big forehand early in the

:21:55.:21:57.

point. He has a really good slice. I know Federer has perhaps one of the

:21:58.:22:01.

best slices ever. But Dan has the game on the grass court where if

:22:02.:22:05.

Federer is spraying a few errors and is a bit off, I have a feeling that

:22:06.:22:09.

Dan, there's a different feel about him. He's very focussed. He's not

:22:10.:22:13.

looking around on the court as much. He mentioned in his interview,

:22:14.:22:16.

physically he's invested. He's moving really well on the court. I'm

:22:17.:22:21.

making it sound as if he has a chance to beat Federer! You've

:22:22.:22:27.

convinced me. I wouldn't be amazed if it ended up being a close match.

:22:28.:22:30.

There are question marks about Federer. People wondering, is the

:22:31.:22:34.

injury still there? He had to miss the French Open. He lost in the

:22:35.:22:41.

semifinals. He doesn't look as if he's moving as well as f in past

:22:42.:22:45.

year. If you're going to play Roger Federer, this is the best chance

:22:46.:22:49.

you've got. He hasn't the wins he normally has. He hasn't had the

:22:50.:22:54.

match play. When you look at Roger Federer over his career has

:22:55.:22:59.

basically been injury-free. He's always had perfect preparation for

:23:00.:23:03.

the plans. He hasn't had that block that he normally plays this year. If

:23:04.:23:06.

you're going to beat Roger Federer, which is a big "if", this is the

:23:07.:23:10.

time to do it. It's gay opportunity for Dan -- it's a good opportunity

:23:11.:23:17.

for Dan Evans. That is the third match on Centre Court. The last

:23:18.:23:21.

woman in the main draw is Tara Moore. She came through and today

:23:22.:23:28.

she takes on Svetlana Kuznetsova, a two-time Grand Slam winner. Let's

:23:29.:23:30.

hear from Tara. COMMENTATOR: It's long! And Tara

:23:31.:23:43.

Moore screams with delight. Now that you've had a chance for things to

:23:44.:23:47.

sink in since your first win at a Grand Slam, your first win at

:23:48.:23:50.

Wimbledon, how satisfied are you with that? Enormously satisfied.

:23:51.:23:56.

It's always great to win at a Grand Slam. I do think that being a home

:23:57.:24:01.

Grand Slam makes it that much better. The end game is definitely

:24:02.:24:05.

not just winning one round at a Grand Slam. My end game is to make

:24:06.:24:09.

the second week and eventually, hopefully, win one. That's every

:24:10.:24:15.

tennis player's dream. If you ask any little girl or boy in tennis

:24:16.:24:20.

that's what they want to do. One of the things you've spoken about is

:24:21.:24:24.

the bigger picture. People find it a bit dangerous to specify targets.

:24:25.:24:28.

Are you that type of person? I think targets are very important to have.

:24:29.:24:31.

I think that they're something that you can work towards and you have a

:24:32.:24:36.

goal at the end of the day. I think that's very important. For me, I

:24:37.:24:40.

just want to go out there and play the best tennis I possibly can.

:24:41.:24:44.

Whether I'm ranked top 100, top 50, who knows. I can't, I won't be able

:24:45.:24:48.

to guess or speculate or anything like that. I enjoy tennis. That's

:24:49.:24:52.

ultimately what I want to keep doing. Quite an exciting

:24:53.:24:56.

second-round match against Svetlana Kuznetsova. What do you think of her

:24:57.:24:59.

game? What do you think of her reputation? Obviously, she's a great

:25:00.:25:05.

tennis player. She's definitely had great results. She's playing well. I

:25:06.:25:08.

watched her play a bit yesterday. You know it's going to be tough out

:25:09.:25:13.

there for sure. Whichever opponent you play and especially someone that

:25:14.:25:17.

experienced, it's going to be tough. I'm just going to go out there and

:25:18.:25:20.

hopefully have the element of surprise. She doesn't really know me

:25:21.:25:24.

that well. Yeah, hopefully I can go out there and give it a good run. In

:25:25.:25:28.

the bigger picture, where does playing against a player of her

:25:29.:25:31.

stature on one of the show courts at Wimbledon fit in for you? That's

:25:32.:25:35.

what everyone works towards. Playing on a show court is everyone's dream.

:25:36.:25:41.

It's definitely been one of mine. It's going to be really good fun

:25:42.:25:42.

It's going to be reallygood fun good fun ( We hope she really does

:25:43.:25:48.

enjoy it. Play is getting under way. We will head out there live when

:25:49.:25:52.

play starts. It's a great story. We talk about gritty competitors, she's

:25:53.:25:57.

another. Yeah, she is. Her game style suits the grass quite well.

:25:58.:26:00.

She can hit a slice backhand, which takes well on the surface. She has a

:26:01.:26:04.

big forehand when she goes for. It I saw her play in Nottingham in the

:26:05.:26:08.

pre-Wimbledon tournaments. She did well at Eastbourne. She's won a lot

:26:09.:26:13.

of matches on the grass. She's playing against a Grand Slam

:26:14.:26:15.

champion, it's a very tough match. If she has got a chance, it's going

:26:16.:26:19.

to be a grass court. We wish her well. She is playing later on this

:26:20.:26:24.

afternoon out on court number three. Jamie, thank you for the moment.

:26:25.:26:28.

Don't go anywhere. We hear that there might be rain around here at

:26:29.:26:32.

Wimbledon. But the good news is that play is looking to get under way on

:26:33.:26:37.

Court No 1. It's an eagerly awaited match here, the entertaining and

:26:38.:26:42.

sometimes controversial Nick Kyrgios against the flamboyant Dustin Brown,

:26:43.:26:46.

who famously knocked out Rafael Nadal last year. They're also good

:26:47.:26:48.

friends. # See the way he walks down the

:26:49.:26:58.

street # Watch the way he shuffles his

:26:59.:27:02.

feet... COMMENTATOR: Oh, you're kidding me!

:27:03.:27:06.

That's impossible. Have a look at that. Inspiration.

:27:07.:27:21.

# Just because he doesn't do what everybody else does

:27:22.:27:26.

# That's no reason why I can't give him all my love

:27:27.:27:32.

UMPIRE: Game, set, match. COMMENTATOR: Another dream comes

:27:33.:27:36.

true on Centre Court. Next up Nick Kyrgios, describe him

:27:37.:27:45.

in three words. Talented, crazy and nice. To me, as a friend, he's a

:27:46.:27:50.

really nice guy. Never had any issues with you or anything. It's

:27:51.:27:54.

going to be a good match, hopefully, for people to watch. I'm looking

:27:55.:27:59.

forward to it. He just waits for this time of the year. He's a good

:28:00.:28:05.

friend of mine as well. When you're playing against a guy like Dustin,

:28:06.:28:10.

you know it's not a day that he can't feel it, he just enjoys it. We

:28:11.:28:13.

all know what he can do and is capable of. He's a great player as

:28:14.:28:17.

well and is exciting. I'm ready to have fun out there. Two great

:28:18.:28:22.

entertainers on the court, a great crowd pleaser. Hopefully we can show

:28:23.:28:26.

good tennis. Both of us want to win. I'm sure the crowd will have fun.

:28:27.:28:32.

That's why we couldn't go anywhere else at 11. 11.30am. We're heading

:28:33.:28:36.

out to court number two. The bad news is, I hear there is rain

:28:37.:28:41.

around. The nets are am cog down elsewhere and -- are coming down

:28:42.:28:44.

elsewhere and indeed on court number two as well. The umbrellas are up. I

:28:45.:28:52.

hope they enjoyed the warm up. Hugely disappointing for everyone

:28:53.:28:55.

involved here, so looking forward to that match. They came on court and

:28:56.:28:59.

now they are off and we have to sit and wait. This is so frustrating for

:29:00.:29:03.

the players, isn't it? Yeah, it was just getting a lot brighter. But we

:29:04.:29:07.

were expecting these showers. And also the crowd especially for this

:29:08.:29:12.

match, they'd probably got in there getting ready. This sort of weather

:29:13.:29:16.

will affect the tennis as well. Not only is it wet and the court surface

:29:17.:29:21.

is going to be greasy and slippery, it's cold and it's not, it's not the

:29:22.:29:25.

best weather to play great tennis in. Wednesday night everybody was on

:29:26.:29:31.

court for about an hour, it was not very summer-like. It's cold. The

:29:32.:29:34.

surface is greasy. It affects tactics of the players. Especially

:29:35.:29:39.

on the grass, when it's so quick, if you get in the first hit, it's hard

:29:40.:29:43.

to recover. Dustin Brown is a great story. He beat Rafael Nadal. His

:29:44.:29:47.

ranking wasn't high enough to get into Wimbledon, the committee

:29:48.:29:50.

rewarded him for what he did last year by giving him a wildcard. It's

:29:51.:29:55.

nice that happens. And having beaten Nadal on Centre Court you can't deny

:29:56.:29:59.

he deserves another chance and having won his first-round match.

:30:00.:30:02.

This match with Kyrgios will be so entertaining. In today's day and

:30:03.:30:06.

age, when everybody is so professional and you don't get the

:30:07.:30:12.

characters like the McEnroes and Connors, to see Kyrgios and Brown,

:30:13.:30:16.

it's so rare these days. The crowd love.

:30:17.:30:16.

It Kyrgios and number one. You watching

:30:17.:30:30.

play, and with the weaponry he has and massive forehand, the serve, you

:30:31.:30:34.

can do 20 aces the blink of an eye. To have that before you start, it

:30:35.:30:39.

puts so much pressure on opponents, especially grass. With someone of

:30:40.:30:47.

his style, with his crazy and relaxation, he is so can't stop max

:30:48.:30:52.

picked them as one of the six who could win it, because he has that

:30:53.:30:57.

big game. Jamie, thank you. Sadly, we have not been able to bring you

:30:58.:31:01.

any live tennis but we will bring you some tennis from yesterday, and

:31:02.:31:09.

it took place on Centre Court, it was Britain's Jo Konta against the

:31:10.:31:18.

champion, and we can join it at the start of the third set.

:31:19.:31:41.

Of course, to other bits of intrigue, Konta playing in her home

:31:42.:32:18.

country. These two had never played before

:32:19.:32:30.

because Konta was ranked at a high enough level. I have a feeling

:32:31.:32:39.

Eugenie would not have known her, they were living in different

:32:40.:32:40.

worlds. First 44 Eugenie, just decelerated

:32:41.:34:42.

there. These double faults became an issue when she was closing out her

:34:43.:34:44.

first-round match. Nicely constructed point, good

:34:45.:35:12.

footwork from Bouchard, get enough room on that background and very

:35:13.:35:14.

deliberate volley. Slight missed opportunity, a second

:35:15.:36:21.

serve. Just got underneath the ball too much, need a bit more cover.

:36:22.:36:39.

It stuck. Konta building pressure in this opening game of the final set.

:36:40.:36:48.

Can Eugenie hang on? Beautiful the way Bouchard attacked

:36:49.:37:18.

that forehand. Didn't make this a mistake there, inside the baseline,

:37:19.:37:23.

hit back ball on the rise. She was robbing Konta of time.

:37:24.:38:01.

Not able to get that early break. And Bouchard winning that game.

:38:02.:39:50.

This time in the evening, a bit of moisture in the green section of the

:39:51.:39:57.

court. The baseline starting to rip up now and the court playing far

:39:58.:40:01.

harder than it was a couple of days ago. I think it is the way the

:40:02.:40:08.

players like it. The first couple of days, very greasy and I'm sure the

:40:09.:40:14.

players didn't feel like they had enough traction, on the edge of

:40:15.:40:19.

slipping. We have had the odd drop of rain here.

:40:20.:40:37.

At one double faults until this game, now two already.

:40:38.:41:07.

That is a magnificent forehand, stayed down, what an angle. The

:41:08.:41:17.

forehand has improved, and particular he is sharp angle. --

:41:18.:41:26.

particularly. Fabulous! To get the break in this

:41:27.:42:22.

deciding set. Bouchard was withstanding some punishing blows,

:42:23.:42:28.

great events to hang in the point. I think that ball was going long. I

:42:29.:42:35.

think onto missed out, four or five shots back when she didn't take that

:42:36.:42:44.

high ball out of the air. It is turning out to be small margins in

:42:45.:42:45.

this contest. APPLAUSE

:42:46.:43:05.

Bouchard not giving Konta an angle, Konta says she will go right at her.

:43:06.:43:56.

Stunning! That is resilient, after getting her serve broken.

:43:57.:44:15.

Had three chances to break Bouchard in the opening game of this final

:44:16.:44:23.

set, three more. GROANS FROM CROWD

:44:24.:44:47.

two missed returns, Konta has to get this in play, to keep the pressure

:44:48.:44:54.

on. On this surface, more than any

:44:55.:45:26.

other, you have to have happy feet, because you might get the odd bounce

:45:27.:45:31.

at the last second you need to adjust. Bouchard doing a great job,

:45:32.:45:34.

winning seven from ten. And this is the resilience from here

:45:35.:45:47.

that we did not see last year, she'll looked miserable on the

:45:48.:45:52.

tennis court, as if she will never anywhere but hitting a tennis ball.

:45:53.:45:57.

It is hard to watch at times. Bouchard is back.

:45:58.:46:05.

UMPIRE: Correction, ball is good. UMPIRE: Treble is calling. That is

:46:06.:46:26.

confidence for you. The Canadian number one is flying

:46:27.:46:44.

now, and springs into a 3-0 lead. There is her younger brother,

:46:45.:47:48.

William, and with her when she made the final. Her mum, Julie, and she

:47:49.:47:54.

has another sister, Charlotte, and a twin sister, Beatrix, they look

:47:55.:47:58.

similar but have different personalities. Eugenie is the goal

:47:59.:48:05.

orientated one. A slight obsession with the British Royal family, when

:48:06.:48:12.

it comes to naming her family. Eugenie calls her mum a closeted

:48:13.:48:16.

royalist. I did not know such a thing existed. I think she is out of

:48:17.:48:22.

the closet now. He looks like he's going to jump

:48:23.:49:03.

over that wall, he is so excited at the level Eugenie is playing at

:49:04.:49:06.

today. Having seen Eugenie playlist

:49:07.:49:43.

competent in a while, that second serve, 98 mph, and Bouchard seeing

:49:44.:49:52.

it and attacking. Ten two make an Konta play the not taken those

:49:53.:49:58.

opportunities if you're on in those games -- Bouchard making Konta.

:49:59.:51:14.

Did not do enough with that volley. Just to the left of her coach there,

:51:15.:51:33.

World Cup captain for Canada. Both men looking very happy with Eugenie

:51:34.:51:38.

now, and so they should become it is another break point.

:51:39.:52:12.

Konta is starting, excuse me, Bouchard is reading that serve on

:52:13.:52:24.

the second serve of Konta. Jo Konta has two mix it up.

:52:25.:52:58.

GROANS FROM CROWD that is a rather deflated Centre Court crowd and now,

:52:59.:53:13.

apart from that little area, as Bouchard at break. Her knee hit the

:53:14.:53:18.

ground there. What has been happening over the last ten minutes?

:53:19.:53:22.

Bouchard has raised the level of her game, she has played in more big

:53:23.:53:31.

matches. Maybe that little lack of experience on the big stage for

:53:32.:53:37.

Konta is showing up, just marginally. It doesn't take much in

:53:38.:53:41.

a high-quality match like this to turn it.

:53:42.:53:55.

UMPIRE: Correction. I haven't seen too many Centre Court matches with

:53:56.:54:09.

so many overrules from the chair. The umpire has another one right.

:54:10.:54:18.

Gold stars for the woman from Norway.

:54:19.:54:27.

UMPIRE: I didn't stop it, you stop that.

:54:28.:54:52.

Her call came when I hit it. Jo is saying the lines person called it

:54:53.:55:09.

long, and that was the first indication of any call coming.

:55:10.:55:29.

She has to put it behind her, but there's a fair chance Konta had a

:55:30.:55:49.

point there in terms of the odd call interfering with her shot. That is

:55:50.:55:56.

history now, she has to reset and fire up.

:55:57.:56:35.

This is a level of tennis were Bouchard back the 20 14th, the

:56:36.:56:41.

weight she is heading with so much power, moving well, looking strong

:56:42.:56:46.

again. She was fragile last year. Oh, that is outstanding from

:56:47.:57:13.

Bouchard! She is reading the ball so well. She is only 22, she is still a

:57:14.:57:24.

young person, but this might be a better version than the one we saw

:57:25.:57:30.

two years ago. A couple of points here to take a 5-0 lead.

:57:31.:57:59.

Very few blemishes on her report card this evening.

:58:00.:58:26.

And Bouchard has stunned this Centre Court where they quite early and

:58:27.:58:38.

display of this final set -- with a quite brilliant display full stop

:58:39.:58:41.

she has come full circle from the height of a couple of years ago, but

:58:42.:58:46.

this is a young woman who had a dream, she saw Sharapova win the

:58:47.:58:49.

title here when she was just nine years old, and got the feeling she

:58:50.:58:54.

is a determined young woman, like her idol, I decided, OK, I want to

:58:55.:59:00.

be on the big stages, I want to be on Centre Court. And that 20 years

:59:01.:59:04.

of age, she made her first Grand Slam final right here at Wimbledon,

:59:05.:59:10.

and that takes some dedication to discipline and some real talent. She

:59:11.:59:17.

talks about how she felt all the pressure and expectations, if you

:59:18.:59:21.

win a match, it is normal, if you lose it was a disaster. How

:59:22.:59:25.

difficult that was for her, and now she says she feels it is 2013 again,

:59:26.:59:32.

where she's playing matches without being expected again. I just wonder

:59:33.:59:36.

if she does get back into the top ten, which most people feel she

:59:37.:59:41.

will, how she will hand a letter, I think she will handle it better. And

:59:42.:59:46.

hopefully with this man always by her side, a great coach. Started

:59:47.:59:53.

working with him when she was 12, a long relationship. Serving to stay

:59:54.:59:55.

in the match now. Got to give Bouchard credit, losing

:59:56.:01:19.

that second set 6-1 and coming out into the third set and elevating her

:01:20.:01:22.

game even more. Always having to deal with the

:01:23.:01:42.

pro-Konta crowd. They've been very respectful. I'm sure she understands

:01:43.:01:52.

it's not against her. It's just wanting Konta to play well.

:01:53.:02:07.

That's the way to finish the point off at the net, swing volley.

:02:08.:02:26.

They've been playing at quite a pace. And Konta says, OK, Jeanie,

:02:27.:02:36.

you serve it out. Sometimes those mis-hits are the

:02:37.:02:59.

best shots. Well, unfortunately, maybe just too

:03:00.:04:08.

many loose forehands this evening. UMPIRE: Miss Konta challenging the

:04:09.:05:34.

call on the right baseline. The ball's called out.

:05:35.:05:43.

It is long. UMPIRE: Game, set, match. It's a

:05:44.:05:50.

brilliant Eugenie Bouchard who goes through to the third round putting

:05:51.:05:55.

out the British number one. There is no doubt that she's back.

:05:56.:06:03.

STUDIO: Absolutely, huge disappointment for Johanna Konta.

:06:04.:06:05.

She made a few errors on the forehand. But she wasn't allowed to

:06:06.:06:09.

play well, put under immense pressure. Bouchard showed power,

:06:10.:06:14.

strength and belief. Looks to be back to her best. She will be one to

:06:15.:06:18.

watch at these championships. She has proved she can succeed on the

:06:19.:06:25.

big stage. Her next opponent is Dominika Cubulkova. These are the

:06:26.:06:28.

scenes at Wimbledon. The rain is still falling. The covers are still

:06:29.:06:31.

on the court. So no immediate prospect of play. Therefore, no

:06:32.:06:36.

chance of seeing Nick Kyrgios and Dustin Brown right now. The roof is

:06:37.:06:39.

closed on Centre Court, which means we will get play when they start at

:06:40.:06:47.

1pm with Stanislas Wawrinka and Juan Martin Del Potro. That's the match

:06:48.:06:50.

we're looking forward to in 25 minutes. We will bring you more

:06:51.:06:55.

tennis right now. We've got, we're going to look back to another

:06:56.:06:59.

fabulous match, taking place on court number 2 yesterday. Agnieszka

:07:00.:07:07.

Radwanska against 18-year-old Croatian.

:07:08.:07:18.

Our commentators are Liz Smiley and Dan Lob.

:07:19.:07:33.

UMPIRE: Miss Konjuh is challenging the call. The ball was called in.

:07:34.:07:39.

Call stands. That's good hitting. She has to stay

:07:40.:08:21.

loose and that is so difficult in these situations. She must be

:08:22.:08:29.

nervous. She must keep playing the way she wants to play too, going

:08:30.:08:31.

after each ball. I'm sure her heart rate has risen

:08:32.:08:47.

several beats as well. As far as Agnieszka Radwanska is

:08:48.:09:11.

concerned, there's a lot of tennis to play in this match.

:09:12.:09:22.

But that's not say there will be. Two points away from the biggest win

:09:23.:09:26.

of her career. Penny for your thoughts. This is a

:09:27.:09:34.

huge point. ( She's controlled it beautifully.

:09:35.:10:04.

Motored up to that, was there with plenty of time to spare. All she had

:10:05.:10:10.

to do was find the gap. Now all she has to do is win this point and

:10:11.:10:15.

she's through. Just not quite at the ball. Just

:10:16.:10:38.

needed one more step. She saw the opening. Wasn't quite committed to

:10:39.:10:40.

the forehand. Again, sluggish on the forehand.

:10:41.:10:56.

That's just nerves. The feet just aren't moving. Racquet feels like

:10:57.:11:02.

it's a kilogram heavier. She's virtually on her knees playing

:11:03.:11:37.

some of these shots, Agnieszka Radwanska. Virtually on her knees as

:11:38.:11:41.

far as the score line is concerned, but she's still in it. She's saved a

:11:42.:11:52.

match point. But in 90 seconds, Anna Konjuh will come out and serve for

:11:53.:11:58.

the match. And she'll need some first serves, just to take the

:11:59.:12:05.

pressure off herself a bit. She's played herself into a winning

:12:06.:12:08.

position. Let's remind ourselves that in the first set, there were 20

:12:09.:12:13.

unforced errors almost. Radwanska hit one and then she has just

:12:14.:12:19.

gradually got better at selecting the correct shot and moving and all

:12:20.:12:24.

those things. Give us an insight into how this feels now. Well, you

:12:25.:12:30.

know the nerves are there. People say the hardest thing now, the

:12:31.:12:34.

toughest game to win is the last one. You have to embrace the process

:12:35.:12:38.

though. You can't think about the end result. You have to embrace the

:12:39.:12:43.

process of OK, first serve. Then next shot, then the next. Not even a

:12:44.:12:48.

point. If you get the process right, the result will take care of itself.

:12:49.:12:58.

On the brink of what would be a huge upset on court number two.

:12:59.:13:04.

She's off to a good start. Oh, she's done it! I feared that

:13:05.:13:37.

drop shot wasn't going to be good enough. The shot that came after it,

:13:38.:13:43.

certainly was. Two points needed.

:13:44.:14:24.

Radwanska is fighting for her tennis life. A finalist here at Wimbledon

:14:25.:14:33.

in 2012. She's been as high as number two in the world. She's

:14:34.:14:39.

seeded number three here. How can she pull this one out of the bag?

:14:40.:15:00.

Oh, no. There's a let off. You would have put your house on Radwanska

:15:01.:15:11.

making that return. She didn't. Konjuh has two match

:15:12.:15:14.

points. Just a little bit too anxious to

:15:15.:15:52.

finish the point too quickly. Desperate for a first serve here,

:15:53.:15:55.

Konjuh. Oh, no, it's just dropped on her

:15:56.:16:34.

side of the net! Can you believe it? That almost went over. You have to

:16:35.:16:40.

say that would have been a cruel, cruel way to send Radwanska out of

:16:41.:16:43.

the tournament, but look how close this was to going over. It just

:16:44.:16:48.

peaked its nose over and said, no. Radwanska showing her experience

:16:49.:17:14.

there, knowing that she is just hanging by a finger nail here.

:17:15.:17:18.

Piling the pressure onto Konjuh. Take your time, perhaps. She doesn't

:17:19.:17:25.

want to rush this. If you haven't played tennis, it's

:17:26.:18:14.

impossible to tell you just how these situations make you feel and

:18:15.:18:15.

how they can affect your play. She went to come in, Konjuh. She hit

:18:16.:18:31.

the big shot up the line, made the movement forward and then just got

:18:32.:18:36.

caught. Ended up having to retreat, the ball dropped and then just

:18:37.:18:42.

completely thrown off her rhythm. The opportunity temporarily to win

:18:43.:18:45.

this match has vanish. Will it come back? Almost two hours into this

:18:46.:18:53.

one, Radwanska has saved match points. How deep can she dig now to

:18:54.:18:59.

get another chance? The difficult part is for Konjuh

:19:00.:19:10.

now. She has to forget that she's had the lead in the third. She's had

:19:11.:19:15.

the match points. She has to focus on what we have now.

:19:16.:19:32.

For people sitting at home will say, hit the forehabd now at -- forehand

:19:33.:19:41.

now at 0-15, why not at match point? In a word - pressure.

:19:42.:20:21.

Good point. Once again Radwanska hanging tough. Finding her way to

:20:22.:20:28.

the net saying, you know what, I'm here, pass me. That's smart, isn't

:20:29.:20:34.

it? Pressure situation, it's windy, hard to make passing shots.

:20:35.:20:43.

She's learning so much and will learn so much from this experience,

:20:44.:20:46.

but will it be a winning one? That's too good. Hit that forehand

:20:47.:20:53.

right into the corner. You wouldn't have called this at the

:20:54.:21:05.

beginning of the game perhaps. It's all electronic. Can't argue

:21:06.:21:39.

with electronics. No. Oh, well played Konjuh! I'm sure a

:21:40.:22:23.

lot of the fans around this court number two thought her opportunity

:22:24.:22:27.

might have been and gone. But once again, she will come out and serve

:22:28.:22:34.

for the match. She was good enough to make that forehand pass, after

:22:35.:22:40.

Radwanska had really put the pressure on, coming forward and

:22:41.:22:44.

she'll take it however she can get it at this stage. She's showing so

:22:45.:22:51.

much character. She must have been devastated, OK, she was literally

:22:52.:22:54.

millimetres away from winning this match. With the let court. And to

:22:55.:23:00.

come back and play a game like she did there, fantastic strength. She's

:23:01.:23:03.

had all these opportunities. There's the forehand. It's not her favourite

:23:04.:23:08.

shot, up the line. Good players manage to hit the shot they know

:23:09.:23:13.

they need to play, even if it's not necessarily their most favourite or

:23:14.:23:17.

their most comfortable. She knew that one had to go up the line. She

:23:18.:23:21.

was equal to the task. She looks calm. She looks like she's got a

:23:22.:23:28.

steely determination about her, showing all the right signs. You

:23:29.:23:32.

never know, that body language can make a difference. Last time she

:23:33.:23:36.

served for it, she got to 30-0. There were good first serves in

:23:37.:23:40.

there. Then the game got tight. She certainly needs to get a good start

:23:41.:23:46.

to this game. Take some pressure off, if that's possible.

:23:47.:23:57.

It's that forehand that shows more signs of weakness under pressure.

:23:58.:24:30.

Oh, this is a tight way to start this game. A forehand error and then

:24:31.:24:36.

I think this is going to be a double fault.

:24:37.:24:43.

By the thinnest of margins. Look at that. I don't think there's a person

:24:44.:24:51.

in here... That thought that ball was in. Yeah.

:24:52.:25:57.

Yeah the movement has stopped once again from Konjuh, the feet, when

:25:58.:26:03.

she gets tight, when she gets nervous, you can see it. Just get to

:26:04.:26:06.

the ball, she doesn't get into position. She's playing the

:26:07.:26:11.

Radwanska that we know and love that's just not making any errors.

:26:12.:26:16.

Apart from that one. That was a forced error. A good first serve,

:26:17.:26:26.

107mph. Still has two more break points.

:26:27.:26:32.

STUDIO: Nerves playing their parts. Missed opportunities from the

:26:33.:26:43.

youngster. Would she get another one? We move it on a couple of

:26:44.:26:45.

games. Radwanska serving at 7-7. COMMENTATOR: That was there to be

:26:46.:27:09.

hit. Asking the questions, though. I'm not going to lose it. You're

:27:10.:27:18.

going to have to win it. Big forehand followed up with a big

:27:19.:28:07.

backhand. That's the kind of damage this young lady can do.

:28:08.:28:20.

Oh, no, no, no. She has twisted her ankle badly there. There's no doubt

:28:21.:28:38.

about it. And this is just sickening. She's already in tears. I

:28:39.:28:45.

guarantee, she is in an awful lot of pain. I'm so sorry to say, but she

:28:46.:28:49.

has definitely twisted her ankle really badly.

:28:50.:29:03.

I've seen someone else step on a ball here, a few years ago, in the

:29:04.:29:08.

warm up. She actually couldn't continue. That doesn't look too

:29:09.:29:19.

good, does it? Oh, the poor young lady.

:29:20.:29:25.

STUDIO: It was a nasty fall. She had the trainer on. She had it heavily

:29:26.:29:30.

strapped. It hampered her movement. Radwanska moved her opponent around

:29:31.:29:33.

the court, which is what you'd expect her to do. It was only a

:29:34.:29:38.

matter of time before match point came the number three seed's way.

:29:39.:29:42.

It was a brave effort from the youngster. She had her chances, some

:29:43.:29:46.

missed opportunities, but it is Radwanska that goes through to the

:29:47.:29:50.

third round, but Konjuh certainly won a lot of fans. What a

:29:51.:29:54.

disappointing way to end, in tears, out on court number two. And coming

:29:55.:29:58.

so close to causing such a big upset here at Wimbledon. She's shown that

:29:59.:30:03.

she loves playing on this surface and we'll no doubt see her back at

:30:04.:30:06.

Wimbledon winning many matches in the future.

:30:07.:30:13.

Agnieszka Radwanska advances, the former finalist, through after a

:30:14.:30:16.

real scare on court two. A big cheer for a brave effort.

:30:17.:30:24.

And it was heartbreaking, Lindsay Davenport is with me, just seeing

:30:25.:30:30.

those poor shots, you don't want a match to end like that. It was

:30:31.:30:34.

heart-wrenching, and it was tough for her to be playing of the three

:30:35.:30:37.

match points, which would have been the biggest win of her career, and

:30:38.:30:41.

not to be able to finish it, and then the manner of how she sprained

:30:42.:30:46.

her ankle. It is almost impossible for that to happen, a ball that you

:30:47.:30:49.

are chasing, it was horrible. It will take a little while to get

:30:50.:30:54.

healthy and get over that situation. But this is why people have been

:30:55.:30:58.

talking about her for a few years, she has got a great game, hopefully

:30:59.:31:03.

she will have another chance. But she did get tight, didn't she? It is

:31:04.:31:09.

very tough to always get your first big win, and in some cases you

:31:10.:31:14.

almost feel like it is better to get a lesser scalp first, a player

:31:15.:31:19.

ranked seventh or 12th, and all of a sudden you are at Wimbledon on this

:31:20.:31:22.

stage against one of the favourites to win, and she froze. At that

:31:23.:31:27.

moment, you could see all those forehands going in, then hitting the

:31:28.:31:30.

bottom of the net, and she didn't look very confident. Her feet

:31:31.:31:35.

stopped moving on the big occasions as well, that is something she has

:31:36.:31:38.

got to work through, learn to handle a bit better next time. And she will

:31:39.:31:43.

improve on that. Eugenie Bouchard really looks to be right back to her

:31:44.:31:53.

best, the way she beat Konta on Centre Court was, well, she could be

:31:54.:31:58.

for the title. Absolutely, she was playing more tennis like 2014

:31:59.:32:04.

Bouchard, last year she has talked about, she wants to forget all the

:32:05.:32:08.

stew that came into play, and try to move past it. -- all the issues. A

:32:09.:32:14.

huge step in the right direction to get her coach back on her team, who

:32:15.:32:19.

she split with at the end of 2014, her most successful season. He makes

:32:20.:32:23.

her work, very disciplined in his approach to coaching, and it has

:32:24.:32:28.

paid off. The level she has played as has been very, very good so far.

:32:29.:32:33.

We have seen it a lot as far as players are concerned, players that

:32:34.:32:39.

have come and done something really marvellous to get through to finals,

:32:40.:32:44.

then it is like the pressure gets to them and their form dips. It is very

:32:45.:32:50.

interesting, almost a theme of this generation - they play so well, you

:32:51.:32:54.

can see the obvious talent. I could Petra Kvitova in there as well, she

:32:55.:33:00.

has two Wimbledons, but so many results that make you scratch your

:33:01.:33:04.

head. They are so good, they work so hard, but they are almost OK with

:33:05.:33:10.

early round losses, and we are talking six or seven or eight

:33:11.:33:13.

tournaments where they are not getting past the first or second

:33:14.:33:17.

round. Bouchard had a lot of things going on off the court, other stuff

:33:18.:33:22.

getting in her way. I am glad to see she is in the right direction. I was

:33:23.:33:28.

hoping that Muguruza would make a strong run and back to French Open

:33:29.:33:33.

result. We lost 18 seeds yesterday in the men's and women's, we wonder

:33:34.:33:37.

what quarterfinals we are going to have, because it is a very different

:33:38.:33:43.

tournament. It has been so different, and in women's tennis,

:33:44.:33:46.

for a lot of these Grand Slams, you have the projected round of 16, the

:33:47.:33:50.

projected quarterfinals, and it is not happening any more. For so long,

:33:51.:33:54.

women's tennis was predictable, the top players would get through, and

:33:55.:33:58.

that has not been the case for the last two years, you always a

:33:59.:34:05.

surprise names. There is going to be openings here as well. We are hoping

:34:06.:34:09.

there will be play on the outside courts very soon, but the good news

:34:10.:34:13.

is that the roof is closed and the players for the opening match are

:34:14.:34:17.

making their way onto the hallowed turf, Juan Martin del Potro, along

:34:18.:34:22.

with Stan Wawrinka. CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

:34:23.:34:28.

What a joy it is to have this roof so we can bring you some live

:34:29.:34:34.

tennis, and what a joy to see the former US Open champion Juan Martin

:34:35.:34:39.

del Potro back in a Grand Slam of the three wrist surgeries, but he is

:34:40.:34:43.

up against a two time grand slam winner, Stan Wawrinka, who now has

:34:44.:34:47.

Richard Krajicek in his corner. He has only reached the quarterfinals,

:34:48.:34:52.

that it is best at Wimbledon. Before we join the match, we can you from

:34:53.:34:57.

Stan, he has been talking to Lee McKenzie about the inspiration he

:34:58.:35:01.

draws from a quote from Samuel Beckett. It is how I see live,

:35:02.:35:10.

especially tennis. Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail

:35:11.:35:24.

again. Fail better. Normally, if you look every year, almost every player

:35:25.:35:31.

loses every week, but you need to take some positives from that and

:35:32.:35:35.

accepted, and see what was good and what was bad and tried to learn from

:35:36.:35:41.

that, to do it better. But I am number five in the world, and I'm

:35:42.:35:46.

still losing a lot. So that means it is not only negative when you lose.

:35:47.:35:54.

Richard Krajicek has come in to help you, what has he been working on

:35:55.:35:59.

specifically with you? Yeah, it was good, really happy with him. He

:36:00.:36:05.

knows how to play on grass, he has a lot of experience, about his game

:36:06.:36:12.

also, his game was very aggressive, amazing, great serve, and there was

:36:13.:36:16.

a few little things that I think it has been good for my game, not only

:36:17.:36:20.

for the grass now, but also for the rest of the year. So let's see what

:36:21.:36:25.

is going to happen now. It is the forehands that wins it, a very

:36:26.:36:29.

enjoyable match of tennis. Stan got the job done in the end, class came

:36:30.:36:35.

through. Last year, I started to feel really good on the grass, I

:36:36.:36:41.

know I can play my best game. Lastly I lost against Gasquet, who played

:36:42.:36:46.

better than me over five sets. So now I really feel confident, when I

:36:47.:36:50.

am playing, on grass I know I can play my best tennis.

:36:51.:36:55.

No reason why he shouldn't play well on grass, is there? Absolutely, such

:36:56.:37:02.

a good game, heavy forehands, backgrounds, service, it is about

:37:03.:37:05.

being comfortable and buying into your game on grass. The back and is

:37:06.:37:11.

a thing of beauty, isn't it? It is amazing, it won in the French Open,

:37:12.:37:16.

and the ability of the slice an grass, and he has the best

:37:17.:37:20.

one-handed drive, he has to get that transition game. If he is able to

:37:21.:37:25.

come to the net more, get more comfortable with that, which Richard

:37:26.:37:30.

Krajicek is no doubt working on, it could be a big factor. So many play

:37:31.:37:34.

from the baseline, it is the split step, how to move, read where the

:37:35.:37:38.

bodies are going. So much the anticipation, following the path

:37:39.:37:45.

they are travelling, it is really figuring out where to go once you

:37:46.:37:49.

are at the net, and that is something that a serve and volley

:37:50.:37:52.

like Krajicek could be invaluable with. It will be interesting to see

:37:53.:37:57.

how Del Potro does, I remember the semifinal against Novak Djokovic, a

:37:58.:38:02.

five set thriller back in 2013, former US Open champion, it would

:38:03.:38:07.

be... We just don't know where he is as far as is tennis, how much

:38:08.:38:11.

strength that has in the wrist, the left wrist. He has been chipping

:38:12.:38:18.

most of the backhands on the grass, and you can get away with that more

:38:19.:38:20.

on the grass than the other surfaces. How many forehands can Del

:38:21.:38:29.

Potro get through today? How often can stand get to that corner? As far

:38:30.:38:35.

as having an injury, it is having the belief that you have the

:38:36.:38:39.

strength, I know you are saying he's chipping a lot more, but there are

:38:40.:38:45.

still doubts. Wonder whether the matchplay you have, being much tide

:38:46.:38:48.

has gone away, because he has missed nine Grand Slams. -- match tight.

:38:49.:39:01.

Does he have the confidence on the biggest points to rip his two

:39:02.:39:06.

hander? When you take away one of his best weapons, it is obviously

:39:07.:39:11.

very hard to beat the top players. You see guys like... I don't see

:39:12.:39:16.

Roger or even Stan leading a player get away with such a weakness, and

:39:17.:39:20.

that backhand, and fortunately for Del Potro, it is still a weakness.

:39:21.:39:27.

He won the US Open back in 2009, and you felt there was going to be more

:39:28.:39:31.

to follow, such a shame. It is so amazing to see him back, but there

:39:32.:39:40.

is a little sadness. One surgery on the things were going so well, then

:39:41.:39:43.

I have never heard it, then the left wrist goes, three surgeries on that

:39:44.:39:45.

wrist. He has been fighting to get back on tour for moments like this,

:39:46.:39:49.

so it is a great opportunity, great to see him back, but it would be

:39:50.:39:53.

even better if he was able to play closer to the level he was a few

:39:54.:39:58.

years ago. We will see, we are ready for this, thank you very much. We

:39:59.:40:02.

will be keeping up to date with the weather has eyed and seeing whether

:40:03.:40:05.

the matches get going on the outside courts, but let's sit back and enjoy

:40:06.:40:10.

this live tennis in the company of John McEnroe and Mark Petchey.

:40:11.:40:17.

MARK PETCHEY: We are fortunate to be here to witness these champions face

:40:18.:40:20.

off in the second round, as is their crowd. There you see the meetings

:40:21.:40:24.

between the two. It has been more than four years

:40:25.:40:34.

since they have played each other, we cannot read too much into that.

:40:35.:40:38.

What we can read into is just how Juan Martin del Potro has suffered

:40:39.:40:41.

over the years with the left wrist injury and how much of an effect

:40:42.:40:45.

that will be today. He is up against a man that is the ball so evenly off

:40:46.:40:50.

both sides in Stan Wawrinka, bad side will be targeted by the Swiss

:40:51.:40:58.

star. JOHN MCENROE: It was targeted even before that, his forehand is

:40:59.:41:05.

one of the best shots in the sport, Wawrinka's backhand is unbelievably

:41:06.:41:08.

beautiful, and he has developed a bigger forehand. I will tell you,

:41:09.:41:12.

the players in the locker room are excited about witnessing this and

:41:13.:41:16.

seeing what these two have to offer on Centre Court. Very rarely now,

:41:17.:41:20.

Mark, because of the 32 seeds, do you get to see a quality match, the

:41:21.:41:25.

level you are going to see right here and now. This is a tall order

:41:26.:41:29.

for Wawrinka, given who he is playing, Juan Martin at six foot

:41:30.:41:36.

six. So much upside for both guys, really, this is as big a

:41:37.:41:39.

second-round match as you will see in a slam, no question. Not entirely

:41:40.:41:45.

sure, we're looking behind the umpire's chair at what Stan is

:41:46.:41:49.

complaining about. APPLAUSE

:41:50.:41:58.

Not entirely sure right now. He is under the roof, these other guys are

:41:59.:42:01.

stressing in the locker room, trying to be read out on the court, so this

:42:02.:42:05.

is beautiful ball both of these guys, knowing they will walk out on

:42:06.:42:06.

this court. UMPIRE: First set, Stan Wawrinka to

:42:07.:42:15.

serve. Ready? Play. That is what you want, to get Del

:42:16.:43:22.

Potro on the run. If he has got time, you are in big trouble.

:43:23.:43:39.

Great start from Wawrinka. It actually surprises me, watching Juan

:43:40.:43:51.

Martin in his first game, he looked like he was expecting more balls to

:43:52.:43:57.

the forehand. Well, come on now! He is going to zero in on that, test

:43:58.:44:02.

him, see if he is able to do much with the two hands. If he is slicing

:44:03.:44:07.

it, Wawrinka is going to have a field day. Backhand winners, none so

:44:08.:44:12.

far from Del Potro in the previous round, but very good percentage of

:44:13.:44:16.

first serve points won. He will need to deliver that effectively.

:44:17.:44:23.

Just a couple of tournaments played last year for Del Potro, because of

:44:24.:45:21.

that wrist injury. Keep in mind that the last major he

:45:22.:45:37.

played was two and a half years ago. This poor guy has just been bumming

:45:38.:45:45.

down in Argentina big-time. He is excited, but he is tied too, it has

:45:46.:45:54.

been a while. Way too long. -- tight.

:45:55.:46:13.

The Argentinian has played just one match against him since 2013,

:46:14.:46:25.

against Berdych in Indian Wells last year.

:46:26.:46:34.

Be as got the weapons to stay close with anyone and beat anyone if he

:46:35.:46:41.

gets back to where he was. -- he has got.

:46:42.:46:46.

You'll wrist hurts, doesn't mean you can't train with the legs, so it is

:46:47.:46:51.

going to be interesting to see how long he can last.

:46:52.:47:10.

Oh, yeah. That is good movement by Juan Martin, unfortunately he could

:47:11.:47:15.

not do enough with it. He does not get enough on that

:47:16.:47:49.

backhand, sitting up a little invitingly for Stan.

:47:50.:48:04.

The bright side is he has had plenty of time to practice. He should be

:48:05.:48:15.

better than he has ever been. He is going to need to be if he wants to

:48:16.:48:18.

stay close, if that is the only shot he is going to hit.

:48:19.:48:34.

That is 2-1, Wawrinka. He worked with Magnus Norman in 2013, he has

:48:35.:48:45.

finished every year inside the top ten since then, but one of the big

:48:46.:48:49.

differences, John, when we look at the way Stan has improved is is

:48:50.:48:54.

serve. If we look at the accuracy of it, and the placement, we can see

:48:55.:49:00.

that before Norman, in terms of the way he was serving, you can see it

:49:01.:49:05.

is two foot from the line, the green box. When he got hold of Stan

:49:06.:49:10.

Wawrinka, look at the numbers, in terms of the closeness to the line

:49:11.:49:14.

that he has managed to achieve with the Swiss star.

:49:15.:49:17.

I think what Stan did in the past was try to go too big too often, and

:49:18.:49:23.

because of that, the percentage would drop and accuracy. Even though

:49:24.:49:27.

he still packs a wallop, he is able to take a little off it at times and

:49:28.:49:31.

understand that he can set himself up better. He is so good off the

:49:32.:49:37.

ground. He doesn't need to blow it by his opponent every time. Richard

:49:38.:49:46.

Krajicek just to the right of your picture. Keep in mind, you mentioned

:49:47.:49:50.

the rankings, he was never in the top 15 until Norman showed up.

:49:51.:49:59.

Eight, four and four in the last few years, hopefully he will get some

:50:00.:50:00.

big bonuses! Sensational there. That is one of

:50:01.:50:52.

the greatest shots I have seen, one-handed. Del Potro, if he is

:50:53.:50:56.

going to run around the back and see what happens, the court is wide

:50:57.:50:58.

open, very inviting for Stan there. That is a good sign, that he

:50:59.:51:26.

actually took it with two hands to hit it with some authority. He has

:51:27.:51:30.

to do that if he is ever going to be back in the top eight of the game,

:51:31.:51:32.

top ten even. He has not unleashed a forehand yet,

:51:33.:52:42.

a pretty good indication that he is wound up here. Wawrinka trying to

:52:43.:52:46.

get the edge, get the break here, take advantage of it.

:52:47.:53:00.

First time he has been broken in the tournament, good defence of a big

:53:01.:53:06.

serve from Wawrinka. We should not really be surprised

:53:07.:53:26.

that he is off to the better start, he has been amongst the game and's

:53:27.:53:32.

elite for a number of years now, Wawrinka.

:53:33.:53:44.

For me, he has just got it in that backhand, not a whole lot on it,

:53:45.:53:52.

he's just going to eat them up and if he gets balls like that,

:53:53.:53:53.

Wawrinka. It is amazing to think that,

:53:54.:54:19.

beginning in 2014, this man has won more major titles than Roger and

:54:20.:54:26.

Andy combine. It's true! You do not realise that he has the same amount

:54:27.:54:37.

of majors as Murray, two each. He has also got Olympic gold - not in

:54:38.:54:45.

singles, but in doubles. Davis Cup. Tied up there, so looking at a hall

:54:46.:54:50.

of Fame career. He is taking a trip to Newport at some stage, isn't he?

:54:51.:55:00.

It took about a dozen years to climb a little bit out of the shadows of

:55:01.:55:06.

Federer, his fellow Swiss countryman, but he has done it, and

:55:07.:55:08.

that is pretty impressive. Yet to drop a point when he makes

:55:09.:55:24.

his first serve, and he's making a lot of them as well - 75% from

:55:25.:55:27.

Wawrinka. John, we have been talking a little

:55:28.:55:59.

bit about the backhand, if we take a look at the numbers, there is that

:56:00.:56:04.

two hand, guiding it. If we look at where he was back in 2013, of

:56:05.:56:09.

course, when he played that memorable semi, four hours and 43

:56:10.:56:14.

minutes... He... We will properly have to look

:56:15.:56:20.

at those numbers in a moment. Time! Seats quickly, please, thank

:56:21.:56:45.

you. No gremlins so far for Wawrinka in

:56:46.:57:04.

this particular contest, off and running just as his coaches would

:57:05.:57:11.

have liked. It is getting more expensive out there, John. There is

:57:12.:57:17.

a lot more upside! These guys collect year in, year out, they have

:57:18.:57:19.

got a whole team of people. Wawrinka clearly the quicker of the

:57:20.:57:42.

two players out there. He doesn't do a whole lot of volleying. Once they

:57:43.:57:49.

come on his terms, he is not going to surprise you a whole lot, as he

:57:50.:57:51.

tried to do there. That is a pretty good touch, though,

:57:52.:57:58.

I will tell you! Set up by that return that was just

:57:59.:58:12.

blistering, he was able to cover it with the shot he wanted to.

:58:13.:58:47.

OK, the wake-up call has just arrived. Maybe too late for this

:58:48.:58:54.

set, but that is the type of shot we saw the last time he was on this

:58:55.:58:56.

cold. -- this court. Del Potro comes away with a game, of

:58:57.:59:25.

course it was 2008 when this man made his first major impression on

:59:26.:59:29.

the world of tennis, that 23-match winning streak that came to an end

:59:30.:59:33.

at the US Open at the hands of Andy Murray, but it included four titles,

:59:34.:59:38.

Stuttgart, Kitzbuhel, Los Angeles and Washington.

:59:39.:59:59.

Stan does not need to hit the ball quite as hard there, Del Potro's

:00:00.:00:04.

movement is not his forte. Lovely pick-up because it was some

:00:05.:00:20.

forehand from Del Potro, again on the run. It was a great forehand, it

:00:21.:00:28.

takes a while for him to stop that body, not even close to getting back

:00:29.:00:33.

in that point. A tough shot that Wawrinka had to handle there.

:00:34.:00:51.

The fastest serve of the day, into the body of Del Potro.

:00:52.:01:17.

Plenty of purpose about that particular forehand, an injection of

:01:18.:01:23.

pace, just drag it a little wide but the timing seems to be coming for

:01:24.:01:31.

Del Potro off that wing. The timing has been impeccable for Wawrinka on

:01:32.:01:41.

his serve so far. The second ace. And a 5-2 lead. I wondered often

:01:42.:01:49.

with Del Potro as we take a look at this two hander that has been such a

:01:50.:01:54.

nightmare for him... These are the kind of numbers that will come up in

:01:55.:02:01.

terms of him riding the ball. -- guiding. He has lost a bit of string

:02:02.:02:07.

on one side. You can see that he only sliced 23% of the time but this

:02:08.:02:14.

year already he is at 65% and the speed has gone down dramatically and

:02:15.:02:20.

also because of that, if we flip it on, he has become slightly

:02:21.:02:25.

predictable off a wing that was, for much of his career, a huge weapon.

:02:26.:02:31.

You can almost go and camp if you are Wawrinka crosscourt. This is

:02:32.:02:35.

obviously an issue he is aware of and we don't know how much it is

:02:36.:02:43.

physical or psychological. I want him up in the Open in 2007, he

:02:44.:02:49.

played some up and comer, Djokovic, it didn't work out! But he really

:02:50.:02:53.

went through the motions when he warmed up and for me he has been a

:02:54.:02:59.

notoriously slow starter. He sort of lumbers around, he has to get that

:03:00.:03:02.

big body moving more quickly. I think it has cost him here. The

:03:03.:03:08.

other guys are in the gym and doing all types of warm-ups and you don't

:03:09.:03:15.

see him do that as much. That can be corrected.

:03:16.:04:03.

Stan often blocks or chips especially his first serve. To me,

:04:04.:04:10.

the Potter, just the occasional move forward just to get in Stan's head a

:04:11.:04:16.

little bit would help them -- Del Potro.

:04:17.:04:21.

He is actually a pretty good volleyer, he has pretty solid hands.

:04:22.:04:31.

Dani Vallverdu in the middle of your picture in the black tracksuit top

:04:32.:04:37.

who is looking after Del Potro for Wimbledon.

:04:38.:04:44.

They will discuss if they continue past S W 90 or not. He was telling

:04:45.:04:52.

me the other day, that he is not feeling any pain in his wrist --

:04:53.:04:59.

SW19. So if it psychological or physical? I have seen him quite a

:05:00.:05:05.

bit in the last few weeks and I keep asking, how is it? It's getting

:05:06.:05:09.

there. I don't know if that means it hurts or not.

:05:10.:05:19.

APPLAUSE Wawrinka did not commit one way or

:05:20.:05:32.

the other, good balance. Del Potro is tough to read. When I used to go

:05:33.:05:39.

to Japan, I would say, listen, can I ask a favour and they would go hi

:05:40.:05:49.

and it turns out that means yes, no and maybe in Japanese!

:05:50.:05:57.

APPLAUSE That is well played. The fans

:05:58.:06:11.

appreciating seeing something besides people bludgeoning the ball.

:06:12.:06:14.

Excellent skill from these two. UMPIRE: Mr Wawrinka is challenging

:06:15.:06:39.

the call. The ball was called out. If it isn't it is his fastest serve

:06:40.:06:41.

of the tournament. Not often that you see Wawrinka go

:06:42.:06:59.

that big of a second serve so he has got a little edgy trying to finish

:07:00.:07:01.

off this first set. ENCOURAGEMENT FROM CROWD

:07:02.:07:37.

I don't know if Stan challenged that but apparently not, this could be

:07:38.:07:41.

huge for Del Potro to sneak back into this set.

:07:42.:07:46.

He hit that line and it changed the flight of the ball that little bit

:07:47.:07:53.

which caused him to miss. He has had a little slip which is a

:07:54.:08:32.

shame because he did incredibly well to get back into the point. I hope

:08:33.:08:38.

it's nothing serious. I think he's OK, he just slipped. It is easy to

:08:39.:08:51.

sit here and say it but he had a chance with that forehand and he

:08:52.:08:52.

just has too let it fly. This is good serving from Wawrinka.

:08:53.:09:16.

That is what he is thinking right about now, why didn't I just blast

:09:17.:09:21.

on that one? The bread and butter was there for him. He has been a

:09:22.:09:31.

little tentative in this set. What a smart serve that was. It had

:09:32.:09:38.

everything, placement, balance, width, and it gives him the opening

:09:39.:09:40.

set as well. This is the serve he loves to hit

:09:41.:09:55.

and you had better not be surprised if you are Del Potro Ulster PE is

:09:56.:10:01.

zeroing in on his weakness, he prefers the kick anyway -- if you

:10:02.:10:09.

are Del Potro. He is zeroing in. I am sad and in some ways because I

:10:10.:10:14.

have always liked Juan Martin and I'm pulling for him as pretty much

:10:15.:10:20.

every player in the locker room is. Nobody deserves the fate he has had

:10:21.:10:25.

for these last three or four years. He wins the US Open. He beat Nadal

:10:26.:10:37.

two, two, two in the semis. I have an additional soft spot because his

:10:38.:10:44.

birthday is the same as one of my sons, and Bruce Springsteen! You see

:10:45.:10:52.

him hit that backhand and you are like, oh man, there is just nothing

:10:53.:10:56.

on it. And if you are not equal of both wings at the top of the game,

:10:57.:11:02.

the top players are just too good. We saw the amount of times Stan went

:11:03.:11:06.

to the backhand and the one chance he had on the forehand he had to

:11:07.:11:09.

take it. That puts even more pressure on it. You have just got to

:11:10.:11:21.

let it go, start hitting that. You hope and pray that that happens. He

:11:22.:11:27.

will be 28 years of age come the 23rd of September. Arguably four

:11:28.:11:34.

years of his career had been ruined because of this. He deserves to get

:11:35.:11:39.

that second, third chance. But he will have to work for this one.

:11:40.:12:17.

APPLAUSE Guided beautifully down the line.

:12:18.:12:32.

There is that chip return and it was a pretty good approach. He couldn't

:12:33.:12:36.

cover the line. Who is going to take responsibility

:12:37.:13:06.

for that one? Richard or Magnus? As a coach, that is when you say, there

:13:07.:13:11.

is only so much I can do. When they get on the court it is up to them.

:13:12.:13:32.

This court negate the height advantage in some ways for Del

:13:33.:13:38.

Potro, the ball will not kick up as high. It should help Stan.

:13:39.:14:00.

A good start to the second for Del Potro. Just what he needed. Stan's

:14:01.:14:14.

record here at Wimbledon is part of the reason why he had Richard

:14:15.:14:18.

Krajicek involved, he has only actually had a couple of wins

:14:19.:14:23.

against Tom 50 ranked players here over his career. That was Goffin

:14:24.:14:31.

last year and Feliciano Lopez in 2014 -- top 50. He is searching for

:14:32.:14:36.

some answers to unlock the secret of success on the green grass.

:14:37.:14:45.

I saw him play Federer a couple of years ago in the quarters and he was

:14:46.:15:02.

out him, a set and a break up, he was felled by some sort of stomach

:15:03.:15:04.

injury or illness or something. Back in 2009, he played and the

:15:05.:15:46.

under the roof here as well, just his third match, he has had three

:15:47.:15:56.

matches out here on Centre Court, Wawrinka, this is his fourth.

:15:57.:16:04.

There was that tremendous five setter. Yes. This is where it is

:16:05.:16:16.

hard to know what to do when you play Wawrinka, he can hit so big off

:16:17.:16:23.

both wings. And big down the line as well, not too many players can do

:16:24.:16:25.

that. Kept that ball low, it is a lot

:16:26.:16:50.

tougher to pull that shot off. I hope we see Del Potro lean into some

:16:51.:16:54.

two handers. Clearly Wawrinka's camp have advised

:16:55.:17:12.

him to move forward when they see that sliced coming. Don't run

:17:13.:17:16.

through the volley. -- that slice. Del Potro is competing hard here.

:17:17.:18:17.

One might overriding memories of that loss to Murray in 2008, having

:18:18.:18:27.

gone as deep as he did in that tournament, it was seeing him in the

:18:28.:18:30.

press conference breaking down in tears at the disappointment of

:18:31.:18:33.

losing that match. He wasn't happy just to have been there. Even though

:18:34.:18:41.

he seems lackadaisical at times when he walks around the court, you

:18:42.:18:46.

understand that there is a big inferno within the Argentinian. It

:18:47.:18:52.

has been eating away at his soul for years, just to get back on this

:18:53.:19:00.

court. He did not play at the French, he was relatively healthy

:19:01.:19:06.

most of this year, to get ready for this tournament. I have been

:19:07.:19:11.

fortunate enough to accommodate on a couple of the best matches I have

:19:12.:19:16.

seen, that Olympic match against Federer was awesome, 19-17 in the

:19:17.:19:22.

third. Novak, that match in the semis, that memorable almost five

:19:23.:19:26.

hour match. It doesn't get any better than that. It took him three

:19:27.:19:34.

years to get back on this court coming into this tournament.

:19:35.:19:43.

You think about Federer playing 65 straight majors before finally

:19:44.:19:53.

missing the French. How amazing that is. You think of guys like Del

:19:54.:19:55.

Potro, what they have been through. What Novak has been doing... I mean,

:19:56.:20:13.

otherworldly. Quite an easy recipe for Wawrinka,

:20:14.:20:54.

get in the point, work it to the backhand and you get a ball to

:20:55.:21:02.

attack. It seems like Del Potro at times guides that serve a little

:21:03.:21:03.

bit. He has got away with one there, Del

:21:04.:21:36.

Potro. That is an example to me, Wawrinka at 15-30 come short

:21:37.:21:40.

forehand, you have got to make Del Potro hit a two-handed passing shot

:21:41.:21:42.

there, it's a no-brainer. The forehand is usually a lethal

:21:43.:22:03.

weapon but not today so far. Again, I guess the pressure he feels to

:22:04.:22:08.

make a first serve so he doesn't have to make a second and whenever

:22:09.:22:12.

he does get a forehand, he feels he has to make it happen.

:22:13.:22:26.

Credit to him, he is plugging away with his first serves, about 75% in

:22:27.:22:32.

so far. And he lands another one. Followed swiftly by a beautifully

:22:33.:23:03.

angled one out wide. Credit to Del Potro.

:23:04.:23:19.

He has been a little light on wins this year, semifinal in Delray where

:23:20.:23:27.

he lost to Sam Querrey and in Stuttgart he lost to Philipp

:23:28.:23:32.

Kohlschreiber but this is all about Little tentative steps back into the

:23:33.:23:37.

big-time for the Argentinian. Holds serve under pressure like that will

:23:38.:23:41.

encourage him. Wearing that will feel with that mid-court forehand

:23:42.:23:46.

that it was one that got away from him -- Wawrinka will feel. He has

:23:47.:23:50.

got the protected ranking of seven, he gets some intro was -- some

:23:51.:23:58.

entries but those are starting to run out a bit so the stress level

:23:59.:24:03.

goes up. The belief is questionable and you have to deal with the

:24:04.:24:05.

nerves. He is hanging onto his serve

:24:06.:24:27.

effectively here in the second set although he was under pressure in

:24:28.:24:31.

that last game. It gives him a bit of a platform to try to attack the

:24:32.:24:36.

Wawrinka serve. He has had a couple of chances but has been unable to

:24:37.:24:43.

take them so far. But you are never quite sure with Wawrinka. He can at

:24:44.:24:46.

times blow a little hot and cold. SUE BARKER: We are leaving this

:24:47.:25:05.

match on BBC Two and it continues now on BBC One. But we are going to

:25:06.:25:13.

take you over to Court Number One which is the only match outside that

:25:14.:25:17.

is being played, the covers are on all the other outside courts but

:25:18.:25:23.

Venus Williams and Daria Kasatkina are playing. We can join our

:25:24.:25:26.

commentators, Lindsay Davenport and Chris Bradnam.

:25:27.:25:34.

CHRIS BRADNAM: And a very strange circumstance can it rained all

:25:35.:25:42.

through the wallop, drizzled during the first game and it is still

:25:43.:25:47.

drizzling now -- warm up. This LINDSAY DAVENPORT: And Venus is not

:25:48.:25:52.

thrilled to be playing. She does not know that the covers are on all of

:25:53.:25:56.

the other outside courts. It seems strange that Wimbledon would be

:25:57.:26:01.

having these two playing outdoors and nobody else.

:26:02.:26:12.

Superb. She is striking the ball beautifully. She really is. Early on

:26:13.:26:23.

in this match and we had one instance in the first game where

:26:24.:26:26.

Venus came to the net, didn't want to split step and push and that

:26:27.:26:33.

might force her to go bigger earlier which is her most successful play on

:26:34.:26:35.

grass. Early initiative against the only

:26:36.:26:49.

teenager left in the women's draw, Daria Kasatkina, the number three

:26:50.:26:53.

from Russia, first and seeded at a Grand Slam at number 29. Just her

:26:54.:26:59.

fourth Grand Slam main draw. She has not failed yet to reach the third

:27:00.:27:03.

round. This is the third round, she is looking for a first time in the

:27:04.:27:09.

fourth round. Great attitude. She is feisty and she beat Venus the only

:27:10.:27:13.

time they have played in Auckland earlier on this year.

:27:14.:27:19.

The challenge for Kasatkina in this match is to try to handle the pace

:27:20.:27:37.

of Venus Williams's shots, the serve and ground strokes. It is harder to

:27:38.:27:41.

control your ground strokes on grass against venous than on all the other

:27:42.:27:52.

surfaces -- Venus Williams. And also the serve, flat and also with a bit

:27:53.:28:01.

of slice and pace. As you said, she was broken five times yesterday. She

:28:02.:28:11.

had huge problems with her first serve ball toss which we often see.

:28:12.:28:16.

She served eight double faults and was given two time warnings which,

:28:17.:28:23.

to be honest, was wrong. She just ran to the racket bag to get a

:28:24.:28:27.

different racket and got a time violation. I guess she handled it

:28:28.:28:33.

better than Victor Troicki! I think the look said everything that he

:28:34.:28:35.

said! The rain has started to come down

:28:36.:29:00.

again, pretty heavy right now. It is such a challenge for the players

:29:01.:29:04.

when they have it in their mind that the grass could be slick. It is

:29:05.:29:09.

tough to serve when the rain is coming down. These players have my

:29:10.:29:15.

full respect for handling this situation incredibly well so far.

:29:16.:29:26.

Greatly concerned at the start, Venus, she is probably quite happy

:29:27.:29:35.

to continue now at 3-0. And Venus said after the match yesterday, I'm

:29:36.:29:39.

now playing with a sense of infinity. 2020 is the plan! That is

:29:40.:29:48.

amazing. She is the oldest here at 36. When she first started playing

:29:49.:29:52.

at Wimbledon, Kasatkina wasn't even born! It is her 19th Wimbledon, a

:29:53.:29:57.

record. The only time she has missed was three years ago with a back

:29:58.:30:03.

injury. Five times a champion. You faced her twice in the finals. Venus

:30:04.:30:10.

has always been at her best here at Wimbledon, on the grass. There is

:30:11.:30:14.

something about playing here, it takes the guesswork out of her game.

:30:15.:30:20.

She focuses beautifully on the first two or three shots of every rally

:30:21.:30:24.

and that is her strength and there is no hesitation for her to move

:30:25.:30:29.

forward to the net. She puts so much pressure on her opponent, she

:30:30.:30:32.

smothers them with her game, moving forward with short balls. That long

:30:33.:30:34.

wingspan at the net. Again, you have officials caught

:30:35.:30:44.

side, talking on the walkie-talkies. It has been raining since they have

:30:45.:30:47.

walked out, but they are still playing. Let's hope there is no

:30:48.:30:56.

accident. We saw a horrible one yesterday with Radwanska. That was a

:30:57.:31:05.

ball accident. This one is whether. -- this one is the weather.

:31:06.:31:07.

How important is this game for Kasatkina? She has to calm her

:31:08.:31:24.

nerves for her first time on a main court at Wimbledon against one of

:31:25.:31:28.

the best grass court players. She has started off a bit nervy.

:31:29.:32:02.

Kasatkina's... There are a handful of second round matches that have

:32:03.:32:07.

not been played. All of those winners will be playing

:32:08.:32:18.

to make day straight cut at and they have to come back tomorrow. If

:32:19.:32:23.

you're going to be playing in the rain, I am not sure why it is a

:32:24.:32:25.

third-round match. Just 19, but she looks like she

:32:26.:32:42.

belongs. It is pouring now. This is unbelievable. Here comes the

:32:43.:33:09.

grounds crew. It is pouring! Yes, the chair umpire is calling them to

:33:10.:33:13.

the sides. I hope both these players realise that they have been the only

:33:14.:33:19.

players who have been subjected to play in this steady drizzle for the

:33:20.:33:23.

last half-hour. That doesn't seem fair or right. Absolutely. The

:33:24.:33:32.

covers will come back on. Thankfully, neither of them has

:33:33.:33:38.

taken a tumble. They both agreed to play, albeit reluctantly.

:33:39.:33:50.

So, off they go. The frustration continues. Of course, the more the

:33:51.:34:01.

rain comes, there are showers forecast in the next few hours, and

:34:02.:34:05.

maybe tomorrow, there is more of a chance that maybe Sunday comes into

:34:06.:34:10.

play as an extra day. That would be amazing. Was the last time 97? Yes.

:34:11.:34:16.

I remember I played my second round match on the Sunday. But a good

:34:17.:34:20.

start for Venus. As you said, the biggest thing is that there were no

:34:21.:34:26.

injuries out here. Again, a steady mist for those first four games.

:34:27.:34:34.

Venus Williams, 3-1 up after 30 minutes. SUE BARKER: A frustrating

:34:35.:34:38.

day of showers continues here, but as Chris was saying, thankfully, no

:34:39.:34:43.

injuries. A lot of the players have been voicing concerns in press

:34:44.:34:46.

conferences about being asked to play on these wet courts and in the

:34:47.:34:51.

rain. John Isner is amongst them. I think that will be an ongoing theme

:34:52.:34:55.

today. The showers will continue to come through, as Carol said. So, we

:34:56.:35:01.

just have to remain hopeful. I know how she feels most of it is that

:35:02.:35:04.

sort of day when you are just waiting for play to get underway. --

:35:05.:35:14.

I know how she feels. It is that sort of day. Play continues on

:35:15.:35:17.

Centre Court, and you can see this match on BBC One. Juan Martin del

:35:18.:35:25.

Potro has broken Stan Wawrinka in the second set. That matches under

:35:26.:35:34.

the roof on Centre Court. All we can do is just sit and wait and hope

:35:35.:35:39.

that these dark clouds move across and we can get some play very soon

:35:40.:35:44.

indeed. A wonderful schedule on the outside courts as they are still

:35:45.:35:49.

playing catch up. Some second round matches still having to be played.

:35:50.:35:53.

So, we will hope for some live tennis very soon, but let's look

:35:54.:35:58.

back to Marcus Willis. What a story he was, winning seven matches on the

:35:59.:36:03.

way to hear. He was ranked at 772 and faced Roger Federer yesterday

:36:04.:36:12.

got it was an enchanting story that kept us enthralled for the first

:36:13.:36:15.

three days, but it did not have the fairy tale ending as he was beaten

:36:16.:36:25.

by Roger Federer. He spoke a lot about his experience, but first,

:36:26.:36:30.

let's see match point. Yellow might he was a lovable rogue and not as

:36:31.:36:35.

professional as he could have been. I looked in the mirror and thought

:36:36.:36:38.

it doesn't get better than this. Absolute madness.

:36:39.:36:46.

# Shoes off if you love Willis #. . Play the game, Willy. Roger versus

:36:47.:37:06.

Marcus. David versus Goliath. Very good from Federer.

:37:07.:37:13.

Here we go. That's too bad. I hope the best for him, and I hope he can

:37:14.:37:34.

raise his level, jump in the rankings. It was a pleasure to play

:37:35.:37:41.

against them. It sounds funny, but at this point, Toulouse, I can hold

:37:42.:37:45.

my head up and I have had a fantastic few weeks. I want more

:37:46.:37:52.

experiences like this. -- at this point, to lose. How do you feel,

:37:53.:38:01.

looking back on the experience of yesterday? I have seen some clips.

:38:02.:38:06.

Amazing. I am quite proud of myself, actually. It was a wonderful match.

:38:07.:38:13.

What was the best moment for you? At the start, there were lots of 30-30

:38:14.:38:20.

scores. I was quite unlucky to lose 6-0, given the number of games I was

:38:21.:38:25.

in. The whole match was good. I play good tennis. I can play better, but

:38:26.:38:29.

for my first, for that occasion, I am quite happy with the way it went.

:38:30.:38:35.

We will take you through some of the match, but first of all, the walk

:38:36.:38:39.

out. What would you feeling here? I didn't know. I heard the cheering.

:38:40.:38:48.

It was just amazing. I didn't realise I would get a reception like

:38:49.:38:53.

that. Your face after this, when you realised, you can stop laughing. I

:38:54.:39:00.

know, it is so surreal. Everyone has been brilliant. Did Roger offer to

:39:01.:39:08.

let you go first did he hang back? He hung back. I was waiting for him,

:39:09.:39:15.

going, after you. He was just... He made the whole experience amazing.

:39:16.:39:18.

You met him before the match, introduced yourself. Bill my

:39:19.:39:24.

girlfriend wanted to meet him. I was like, go for it. In the restaurant?

:39:25.:39:34.

Yes, upstairs. So you just went up? I introduced myself. He has never

:39:35.:39:41.

met me before. I just went and introduced myself. It was a nice

:39:42.:39:48.

moment. And what about the match? You pulled off some amazing shots,

:39:49.:39:53.

so many dumb and you give your family and fans, you're very loyal

:39:54.:39:58.

fans who queued for two days, so much to cheer about. I tried to play

:39:59.:40:03.

my best tennis. I am not flashy, but I like my drop volleys, my lobs. We

:40:04.:40:16.

picked out a few things for you to enjoy. You love that drop volley. I

:40:17.:40:22.

played badminton and touch tennis before I play tennis, so the hand

:40:23.:40:29.

skills come naturally. Is your mum a badminton coach? She played for the

:40:30.:40:34.

county and gave it up when she was younger. I have never beaten her.

:40:35.:40:40.

You can take her on now! You won seven matches. We were getting

:40:41.:40:44.

concerned in the commentary box after half an hour, and it was 5-0,

:40:45.:40:52.

6-0. And there are easier players to play against. What is he like to

:40:53.:40:59.

play against? He is so, so accurate. It looks like the ball will drop

:41:00.:41:05.

wide and it gets. Some of them were unplayable. And the backhand? He

:41:06.:41:15.

keeps it at a good depth. Even at 6-0, I felt I was in some of the

:41:16.:41:22.

games. You were. We picked out a few things for you to enjoy, because we

:41:23.:41:25.

don't know how much you remember of the match. When you are out there,

:41:26.:41:28.

the ball goes by in a blur. You recovered well here. And then

:41:29.:41:44.

you just owned him on this. Wherewith that rate in terms of the

:41:45.:41:48.

best punch up late? Yellow might yes, that is probably one of my

:41:49.:41:58.

first. The ball wasn't getting high enough up in the air. No, it wasn't.

:41:59.:42:09.

I wanted to get serving. In the warm up, you struggled to serve, didn't

:42:10.:42:15.

you? Yes, I did. My body has been hurting. I am stiff this morning.

:42:16.:42:24.

Adrenaline got me through yesterday. In the previous match, I was

:42:25.:42:27.

hurting. But when you get a crowd like this, you work through it. It

:42:28.:42:37.

didn't affect me. You really got better and better as the match was

:42:38.:42:41.

going. Did you enjoy the Centre Court experience? It was amazing. I

:42:42.:42:47.

was just trying to win points. He made it difficult. After points like

:42:48.:42:51.

this, I was pumped up from playing good tennis. Do you want another go

:42:52.:42:57.

was mac I was getting into the match as the scoreline was getting closer.

:42:58.:43:04.

The rallies were getting longer. He's just better than me, just a

:43:05.:43:09.

very good player. That is why he won. What does he say to you at the

:43:10.:43:15.

end? Keep going, fantastic, stick at it. He said some really nice things.

:43:16.:43:23.

I really appreciated it. You got a bit emotional, it all came out. Yes.

:43:24.:43:31.

The eighth match for you in this tournament and all the headlines.

:43:32.:43:33.

When did the world turned upside down? I qualified, nothing much came

:43:34.:43:43.

out there. In the first round I'd be a really good player. It has been

:43:44.:43:55.

manic since the match the other day. A few more followers on Twitter.

:43:56.:44:06.

Anyone famous? Miranda Hart and Roger Federer. Roger Federer said

:44:07.:44:13.

thanks for the match. Energy on Centre Court was electric. It is all

:44:14.:44:25.

about support as well. We have seen you with your girlfriend. Your

:44:26.:44:31.

friends and family were there, and we just put this together. You will

:44:32.:44:34.

probably get emotional watching this, because they were living every

:44:35.:44:38.

point with you as well. There is your mum. How proud she? They are

:44:39.:44:45.

all buzzing, my family and friends. They have been there the whole time.

:44:46.:44:49.

I am glad I could do this for them. They all seemed to have the same

:44:50.:44:52.

attitude, going out and enjoying the moment. This is such a wonderful

:44:53.:45:00.

story for sport about... After everything you have put them

:45:01.:45:03.

through, Marcus! This was a great moment. To see their son play on

:45:04.:45:10.

Centre Court is great. Your girlfriend is the best thing that

:45:11.:45:15.

has ever happened. Jennifer, you are the best thing that ever happened to

:45:16.:45:23.

me. I am playing it cool. This has whetted the appetite. Andrew has

:45:24.:45:31.

just been feeling your bicep. He is stiff coming in here. I helped him

:45:32.:45:35.

into the seat and I got my hand stuck. It got stuck between the

:45:36.:45:39.

forearm and the bicep. You have been training. You can feel it, it is

:45:40.:45:43.

unbelievable. What do you want to take from this going forward? I will

:45:44.:45:50.

be dropped on planet Earth after this and I will keep training the

:45:51.:45:53.

way I had been training. I have a lot to improve on. I have been

:45:54.:45:57.

playing well but I need to get 10% quicker and stronger. This was

:45:58.:46:02.

really exciting. Do you know where your ranking will be? It is not as

:46:03.:46:13.

high as I would like. It is a great start. I am still 1 million miles

:46:14.:46:21.

away from where I want to be. What has Matt Smith, your coach, done for

:46:22.:46:24.

you that everyone else has not? You have made a pledge to him, an

:46:25.:46:28.

unwritten contract. How has he been able to do what others haven't? You

:46:29.:46:33.

what trouble as a teenager, in our way. I was. I trained for nine years

:46:34.:46:41.

at Bisham Abbey. I didn't work hard enough, and when push came to shove,

:46:42.:46:49.

I didn't want it enough. He is terrifying. I have a lot of respect

:46:50.:46:53.

for him. When he shouts at you, you listen. He was a very good player

:46:54.:46:58.

himself. He had double wrist surgery and quickly young. But he was a

:46:59.:47:04.

fantastic player, trained in Spain. I can't tell you how tough it is on

:47:05.:47:10.

the body, and I have to pretend that I am not tired, plus my opponent. It

:47:11.:47:18.

is brutal. Friday morning, getting up, I couldn't walk. It is worth it

:47:19.:47:22.

now, but I didn't think it would be. It has proved to you that the hard

:47:23.:47:27.

work will pay off. More importantly, have you picked up your prize money?

:47:28.:47:37.

I did. How did that feel? Different to the F1 in Tunisia this year. I

:47:38.:47:44.

can't spend it too quickly. Did you go out with mates last night? Yellow

:47:45.:47:50.

might know. After all the media, I got to bed at 1:30am, up at 8am this

:47:51.:47:56.

morning. I am shattered. I will have a pint or two at some point, but not

:47:57.:48:02.

yet. We wish you well. It has been great going along the journey with

:48:03.:48:08.

you. Thank you very much. He has been the story of certainly the

:48:09.:48:11.

first three days of the championship. That is a nice site to

:48:12.:48:16.

welcome to Wimbledon. As you can see, the covers are still on the

:48:17.:48:19.

courts. If that is heading our way, that is great news that we will

:48:20.:48:24.

finally get some play on the outside courts. It was due to start at 11am

:48:25.:48:28.

and it is now gone quarter past two and we have only had about two

:48:29.:48:31.

minutes of play on the outside courts. A little more play on Court

:48:32.:48:36.

Number One. The story there is, although they are keeping the covers

:48:37.:48:44.

on elsewhere, they are coming off. Coverage of the play under the roof

:48:45.:48:49.

on Centre Court is on BBC One. Juan Martin del Potro is serving to level

:48:50.:48:55.

the match at 1-1. He is serving against two-time Grand Slam winner

:48:56.:48:58.

Stan Wawrinka. You can watch that live over on BBC One. We are getting

:48:59.:49:04.

hopeful here on BBC Two that we will get some live tennis. Although the

:49:05.:49:08.

covers are on outside, they are off on Court Number One, and this is

:49:09.:49:12.

Venus Williams taking on Daria Kasatkina. Venus was leading 3-1

:49:13.:49:19.

when we left off, but hopefully we will have some play for you very

:49:20.:49:23.

soon in the sunshine at Wimbledon. I have been joined in the studio by

:49:24.:49:27.

Tracy Austin. Finally, the sun has come out. Hope is there. We are

:49:28.:49:34.

playing catch up. They have hardly played any doubles. It will be a

:49:35.:49:39.

physical test the players now. Absolutely, and we need a couple of

:49:40.:49:44.

good days of sunshine and long-term play. We're not going to get them.

:49:45.:49:51.

Yes, it is a little worrisome. Listening to Marcus there, we have

:49:52.:49:55.

enjoyed the story. Has he been much of a story back in the US? I had not

:49:56.:50:01.

been there. But you do some American television. Absolutely. This is what

:50:02.:50:05.

sport is about. This is a fairy tale. Given how long it takes to

:50:06.:50:16.

become a good tennis player, he was a top 15 junior. Hopefully he is

:50:17.:50:23.

young enough and has a team around him and can maximise his potential.

:50:24.:50:28.

At the end of the day, he is an athlete and he wants to maximise his

:50:29.:50:32.

potential. I love the story that one day he is playing Roger Federer,

:50:33.:50:37.

which almost seemed like an exhibition, and it seemed like Roger

:50:38.:50:43.

wanted him to win the first game. He was a good foil for Marcus on Centre

:50:44.:50:47.

Court. And then yesterday he played two matches for Coventry. He's

:50:48.:50:52.

actually playing for the Warwick boat club, and he was playing with

:50:53.:50:57.

his partner Gavin Henderson. Here they are arriving at the Warwick

:50:58.:51:02.

boat club. Gavin looks as though he has only one racket. He looks as

:51:03.:51:07.

though he has his Wimbledon accreditation on as well. Jenny is

:51:08.:51:14.

still there. Last night at 930 he was playing a second doubles match

:51:15.:51:19.

using the lighting from a shopping centre. He is a huge star. He had

:51:20.:51:24.

better enjoy it now. That is wonderful. There they are. There are

:51:25.:51:30.

probably about 20 people there. A little different! And the crowd goes

:51:31.:51:39.

wild! That is the story of markers Willis. He could have won those blue

:51:40.:51:47.

shoes the day before. One minute, playing Roger Federer, and then at

:51:48.:51:51.

the Warwick boat club in front of about 30 people. Absolutely

:51:52.:51:58.

wonderful story. Dan Evans takes on Federated day. We are looking

:51:59.:52:01.

forward to that, because Dan has done really well. I want to talk

:52:02.:52:06.

about what has been happening in the women's championship will stop

:52:07.:52:09.

yesterday, Garbine Muguruza, fresh from winning the French Open,

:52:10.:52:17.

outplayed by Jana Cepelova. Of course, Jana Cepelova plagues Halep

:52:18.:52:22.

year and beat her on grass. She has been having up and down results. She

:52:23.:52:26.

beat Serena at Charleston about three years back. We knew she would

:52:27.:52:30.

be a dangerous opponent, but at the same time, Muguruza, the way she

:52:31.:52:34.

played at the French, she was so focused, consistent and powerful,

:52:35.:52:38.

with big weapons, the serve and the ground strokes. She only played one

:52:39.:52:45.

grass court match leading up to Wimbledon, came here and you still

:52:46.:52:49.

expected big things from her because she has had a really phenomenal

:52:50.:52:53.

year, a life changing year, winning the French Open. She has a big

:52:54.:52:58.

serve, and the ground strokes got her to the final last year. This is

:52:59.:53:02.

disturbing, she had 22 unforced errors and did not look like she had

:53:03.:53:06.

a plan B. She was missing by seven or eight feet, often. She did not

:53:07.:53:13.

have a plan to get balls back in play and build the points. WTA this

:53:14.:53:17.

year, there had been so many players in the last few years who have not

:53:18.:53:20.

been able to handle the pressure once they get the recognition and

:53:21.:53:24.

more expectations on them, they haven't been able to deal with them.

:53:25.:53:29.

They keep focusing on the negative. In my opinion, when you win a Grand

:53:30.:53:33.

Slam, you should be focusing on the fact that you are now part of the a

:53:34.:53:37.

meet and can play at the top and focus on the glass being half full.

:53:38.:53:45.

It is interesting to watch the person at number two. Radwanska last

:53:46.:53:53.

year, curb. Kvitova, I thought she would soon be number one in the

:53:54.:53:58.

world. You look at the men's game and you have Andy Cole and Novak,

:53:59.:54:03.

Roger, Rafa when he is fit. They are so consistent and always at the

:54:04.:54:07.

business end of tournaments. That is what is lacking in the women's game

:54:08.:54:11.

now. They need to find superstars who will be competing in major

:54:12.:54:16.

finals, not all this different people coming up and having one good

:54:17.:54:21.

slam. We have taken a couple of hits, with Sharapova, the two-year

:54:22.:54:25.

ban. She is appealing but we will have to see what happens. Azarenka,

:54:26.:54:32.

we are hoping she will come back. That is the last small rivalry

:54:33.:54:36.

Serena had, she beat her about two or three times about three years

:54:37.:54:44.

back. The last real rivalry was just been Henin. Just been would handle

:54:45.:54:48.

the power and believe she could win. If you think of that period, with

:54:49.:54:52.

Serena, Venus, Lindsey and just been and came, they rarely lost in the

:54:53.:55:04.

second round. -- and just been and Kim. The fluctuation is tremendous.

:55:05.:55:09.

The other players that are ranked 50 - 100, when they walk on court, I

:55:10.:55:14.

think they truly think, I have a chance. Sally, three weeks ago. I

:55:15.:55:21.

can't explain why it is a different mentality. When you go back to Chris

:55:22.:55:26.

and Martina, there were no early round losses. And they had an aura,

:55:27.:55:32.

like the top men do. Who will have the chance to get through to the

:55:33.:55:36.

final as far as the bottom half of the draw was concerned? It is

:55:37.:55:41.

depleted. It is. We have had surprises in women's tennis in the

:55:42.:55:46.

last three four years of people coming through. Simona Halep, a

:55:47.:55:51.

semifinalist a couple of years ago, that is a possibility. Madison Keys

:55:52.:56:01.

- Wenbo her chance,? Angelique Kerber, she can play on grass and

:56:02.:56:04.

has won some grass court titles. Venus Williams went three sets with

:56:05.:56:09.

someone you would not expect yesterday. A qualifier. But if Venus

:56:10.:56:16.

starts to get hot, she never plays a warm up tournament. She has played a

:56:17.:56:20.

couple of singles matches and a doubles match, and won that. That is

:56:21.:56:25.

a possibility. Sabine Lisicki, every time she comes to Wimbledon it seems

:56:26.:56:29.

that she has consistently gotten to the quarterfinals. Jaroslav a shred

:56:30.:56:37.

of as well as well. Lucie Safarova was good couple of years ago. There

:56:38.:56:41.

is an opening at the bottom of the draw. The top half, we are not so

:56:42.:56:47.

worried about. Will it finally be the time for Madison Keys? She has

:56:48.:56:52.

broken into the top ten. Just recently. She has a new coach, the

:56:53.:56:59.

long-time coach of Maria Sharapova. He is a taskmaster, and Madison is a

:57:00.:57:06.

free spirit, I always thought she could have worked harder. Thomas

:57:07.:57:10.

isn't going to let her get away with that. She has the weapons she needed

:57:11.:57:16.

to harness that power and play smart with good shot selection. I know he

:57:17.:57:21.

is on her about that. I think his discipline will feed into Madison's

:57:22.:57:27.

lifestyle. I don't mean her lifestyle, but her professionalism,

:57:28.:57:31.

is what I mean. It is a full-time job now. It is. And it is starting

:57:32.:57:44.

to pay off. On this surface? I don't think so against Madison. She's

:57:45.:57:50.

dangerous, she gets download. Again, very consistent. We talk about

:57:51.:57:53.

players who play well on this surface, because it is so

:57:54.:57:57.

specialised. There are so many players who, in their mind, when

:57:58.:58:01.

they get on the court, they are competing against their opponents

:58:02.:58:04.

and their own mind because they do not feel comfortable, and that is

:58:05.:58:08.

the biggest hurdle. It is the moment of realisation for players when they

:58:09.:58:12.

begin to win a few matches. It happened for Muguruza last year, and

:58:13.:58:15.

she all of a sudden felt more comfortable. She did. I think we

:58:16.:58:20.

might have some tennis in a moment. We certainly have tennis on Centre

:58:21.:58:25.

Court, under the roof, no problems with the weather there. Del Potro

:58:26.:58:30.

was serving for the second set when they left it. He tied it at one set

:58:31.:58:40.

all. It has been good to see him back after wrist surgery. One set

:58:41.:58:48.

all. That matches on BBC One. He is already a break up. He broke

:58:49.:58:53.

Wawrinka in the first game. He is down 0-30 on his own serve, so a bit

:58:54.:59:00.

of a roller-coaster on Centre Court. That is on BBC One. Everyone

:59:01.:59:03.

enjoying the tennis on the big screen as well. Henman Hill is

:59:04.:59:07.

always fall and always such a welcome addition at Wimbledon,

:59:08.:59:10.

people making their way year to watch the tennis. I'm afraid the

:59:11.:59:19.

covers are still on, as you can see. With all that blue sky, I am hoping

:59:20.:59:24.

they will take them off very soon indeed. Court Number One is

:59:25.:59:29.

different. They have to make their own decisions. We know that the

:59:30.:59:33.

players weren't that happy about playing on in the rain. It is Venus

:59:34.:59:37.

Williams against Daria Kasatkina. They have only been off 20 - 25

:59:38.:59:43.

minutes. It has been tough but Venus, because she came through a

:59:44.:59:49.

3-set match yesterday, she had to play a doubles match, which she won,

:59:50.:59:54.

and now she is on first day. At 36 years old, it is not ideal. She has

:59:55.:00:01.

had that strap as well for much of the last year. Either one side or

:00:02.:00:07.

the other that has been strapped. Yesterday, in her match, she went

:00:08.:00:10.

three sets, and at the beginning of the third set, she began to look

:00:11.:00:16.

fatigued. As the tennis crowd knows, she has had to deal with a syndrome

:00:17.:00:20.

which saps her energy. She never knows whether she will feel tired

:00:21.:00:23.

from one day to the next. Really proud of the way she dug in and

:00:24.:00:26.

found extra gears. Venus had to find an extra gear to

:00:27.:00:41.

win that third set. She is in a match against the 19-year-old Daria

:00:42.:00:46.

Kasatkina. We are all ready for this to restart so here we go. Let's join

:00:47.:00:53.

Lindsay Davenport and Chris Bradnam once again.

:00:54.:00:55.

CHRIS BRADNAM: They would have been kept in a room just adjacent to the

:00:56.:01:04.

court so not far to come. A three-minute warm up and Williams is

:01:05.:01:09.

ready to go. LINDSAY DAVENPORT: Tracy made a

:01:10.:01:42.

great point about how much harder the stops and starts could be on

:01:43.:01:50.

Venus and her 36-year-old frame. That is one of the things she has

:01:51.:01:56.

got to try to stay loose and keep that energy high like it was in the

:01:57.:02:00.

first four games where she played beautifully under very difficult

:02:01.:02:05.

conditions. Certainly not easy to go and stop for 30 minutes and come

:02:06.:02:10.

back out. Venus will be hoping for no more stoppages today.

:02:11.:02:42.

Was it? UMPIRE: Miss Kasatkina is challenging the call. It did seem

:02:43.:02:56.

like there was a little puff of chalk.

:02:57.:03:03.

It seems like the mist has just started to fall again. Venus, 111

:03:04.:03:37.

mph! It frightened the life out of the linesman!

:03:38.:03:45.

That is big hitting again from Venus. It is right out of the middle

:03:46.:03:52.

of the racket. She is hitting the ball beautifully early. And the fact

:03:53.:04:00.

that Venus still wants to play doubles as well, we know it is

:04:01.:04:04.

Olympic year, qualifying for the Olympics, qualifying for the doubles

:04:05.:04:10.

and they had to come from 5-2 down to win that one. And as the rain

:04:11.:04:18.

start again pretty steadily... And the covers are still on on the other

:04:19.:04:29.

called! This is obviously SW20. Why do they think this court is safer or

:04:30.:04:34.

different? Maybe there is a good reason. I'm sure there is. It was so

:04:35.:04:40.

great, yesterday all the Olympians were named for Rio. Obviously

:04:41.:04:45.

expected but still amazing, Venus Williams will be playing in her

:04:46.:04:50.

fifth Olympic Games at the beginning of August and nominated for both

:04:51.:04:53.

singles and doubles. What an accomplishment that is. Incredible

:04:54.:05:00.

and I'm delighted for Caroline Wozniacki, that her appeal has been

:05:01.:05:04.

upheld and she can compete at the Olympics. She missed the clay-court

:05:05.:05:09.

swing with injury, her ranking has dropped, no Fed Cup. One of the best

:05:10.:05:14.

supporters of the WTA over the years. And that is not just for

:05:15.:05:16.

tennis is a huge plus for Denmark. It is amazing how really neither

:05:17.:05:41.

woman has made a proper complaint about playing in these conditions

:05:42.:05:43.

from the get go. That is quite a look back to camp

:05:44.:06:06.

from Kasatkina. She does not look comfortable on this court but mainly

:06:07.:06:11.

because of Venus and her play early on in this set. It is so much more

:06:12.:06:16.

difficult to handle the of Venus on grass than any other surface. It

:06:17.:06:23.

really slides through the court, she hit it so hard and flat and with

:06:24.:06:25.

great length and depth. And you said it she is hitting the

:06:26.:06:47.

ball much cleaner and better than in yesterday's win. It is the sound,

:06:48.:06:51.

some of that if this stadium which is a great court come a bit more

:06:52.:06:55.

enclosed with great sound. Three more break points.

:06:56.:07:19.

Beautiful strike, breaks the love and extends her lead. Venus is just

:07:20.:07:27.

all over the Kasatkina second serve, doing such a great job with her

:07:28.:07:32.

first few shots of every rally and that puts her head.

:07:33.:07:51.

This is only the fourth second serve that Williams has had to hit.

:07:52.:08:11.

Get that Dean just has not had many opportunities because she has not

:08:12.:08:19.

hit many shots off her front foot. She has been the one scrambling and

:08:20.:08:22.

trying to hang in the rallies and that was one of the first friends of

:08:23.:08:27.

points she has been able to play. It is never a good sign either when you

:08:28.:08:34.

are playing on this court and you can see the ground crew and they are

:08:35.:08:39.

all-star nick Knight buying Venus. It is still drizzling. A lot of

:08:40.:08:45.

times they will be sitting down but they are definitely on call ready to

:08:46.:08:50.

run on again. Here comes the rain even harder. This entire 21 minutes

:08:51.:08:58.

has been under drizzle or pretty steady rain. They had the warm up in

:08:59.:09:03.

sunshine but the rest has been in the rain. The umpire as to stop

:09:04.:09:09.

this, it is pouring down. This is not right. -- has the stop -- has to

:09:10.:09:16.

stop this. That will surely be the last point. They are running on. The

:09:17.:09:22.

players are walking back. It is out of. The umpire has to take a better

:09:23.:09:28.

hand, when it starts to pour down, there is no reason to play one more

:09:29.:09:38.

point. It is almost like a different postcode on this court. It has had

:09:39.:09:47.

unique treatment today. Remember one year when they did it so

:09:48.:09:50.

efficiently, one person got caught behind and got caught under the

:09:51.:09:56.

covers and ended up looking absolutely drowned! That is a stern

:09:57.:10:00.

face and you can understand it from Kasatkina. She is under the cosh on

:10:01.:10:08.

the scoreboard. Williams has been hitting the ball beautifully. In

:10:09.:10:13.

part one and part two of this match so far and you wonder how many parts

:10:14.:10:21.

there will be. Does she shower straightaway, how does she protect

:10:22.:10:28.

her 36-year-old body? It is so tough on a day like today, that last delay

:10:29.:10:32.

they had them out after 19 minutes so unless you get a definitive

:10:33.:10:38.

answer, they wait in the locker room is and have to be on call ready to

:10:39.:10:43.

come back out. Amazing facilities here of course. Everybody taking

:10:44.:10:53.

cover. The staunch fans are not going anywhere, first time on number

:10:54.:11:05.

one court. Such a shame. The second round games still uncompleted

:11:06.:11:10.

including Serena of course, the defending champion. Two part in this

:11:11.:11:17.

match and we are delayed. SUE BARKER: Have a feeling that part

:11:18.:11:23.

three may not be too far away because there is some brighter

:11:24.:11:27.

weather along the way which is what the radar is showing so hopefully we

:11:28.:11:31.

will then have a dry spell and they will be able to complete this. Tracy

:11:32.:11:37.

Austin is with me. When you are 36, this is the last thing you need.

:11:38.:11:45.

Absolutely, off and on, a tendency to get stiff. And you don't know how

:11:46.:11:49.

long the delay will be. Do you go and get a shower? You have to take

:11:50.:11:55.

all that strapping. But if you have been sweating you want to get on

:11:56.:11:59.

fresh clothes. You don't know how much to eat. She is 36, her 19th

:12:00.:12:06.

Wimbledon. Kasatkina is only 19 years old, less than two months old

:12:07.:12:10.

when the Venus played her first Wimbledon! It is extraordinary. I

:12:11.:12:14.

think it will be difficult for her as well, not knowing what to do. It

:12:15.:12:20.

has certainly been a bit tricky for the players and some of them have

:12:21.:12:24.

been very vocal in the press conference so let's hear what one

:12:25.:12:28.

had to say, Gilles Simon, who lost to Grigor Dimitrov. He was not

:12:29.:12:32.

happy. I hate to play when it's raining. I never understood why they

:12:33.:12:39.

are forcing us to go on court when it is slippery. What concerns did

:12:40.:12:42.

you have about getting hurt because of the conditions and what did you

:12:43.:12:48.

say to the umpire? The date I get injured on the slippery grass I am

:12:49.:12:52.

going to sue everybody in the Stadium. We try to understand what

:12:53.:12:57.

is happening, in the tournament and players but at one point yesterday

:12:58.:13:00.

it was ridiculous. I will tell you what the supervisor told me and I

:13:01.:13:05.

let you decide how you feel when somebody is telling you this

:13:06.:13:09.

straight into your face. He told me, it's raining but the water is not

:13:10.:13:14.

going to the ground. It's really like rain and it stayed in the air

:13:15.:13:21.

and its flying away so the grass is not wet. And I have the answer that.

:13:22.:13:26.

I think the tournament got lucky that nothing really serious happened

:13:27.:13:30.

on the court for a player, like somebody breaking his leg on a

:13:31.:13:36.

slippery court. It is a concern. Obviously the players want to manage

:13:37.:13:40.

themselves and the supervisors want to get the tournament finished so

:13:41.:13:43.

there is a conflict. It is very tricky and I go back to Roland

:13:44.:13:48.

Garros where there were so many days when it was raining and they

:13:49.:13:51.

continued to play but on clay, it absorbs the rain, the lines are not

:13:52.:13:58.

slippery so it is not as dangerous. On grass, even a slight mist, the

:13:59.:14:04.

players are slipping when it is dry. Even a slight mist, even though you

:14:05.:14:07.

have pimples on shoes, it can get dangerous. It plays with your head

:14:08.:14:13.

as well because when you go to hit a forehand and push to recover you are

:14:14.:14:17.

thinking, is it going to hold? And we have seen injuries in the past. I

:14:18.:14:22.

have to stop you because you're coming off the air here on BBC do

:14:23.:14:26.

because we do not have any tennis that it continues over on BBC One on

:14:27.:14:30.

Centre Court where Stan Wawrinka and Juan Martin Del Potro are inaction.

:14:31.:14:40.

Wawrinka is 3-2 up in the third set. That is under the roof on Centre

:14:41.:14:44.

Court on BBC One. We will continue to watch the weather here and

:14:45.:14:51.

hopefully if Venus Williams and Daria Kasatkina get on court, we
