First tonight, fears over s`fety at Cambridge Airport. | :00:42. | :01:02.
The BBC has seen leaked emahls highlighting issues with air traffic | :01:03. | :01:05.
The documents, uncovered by BBC Radio Cambridgeshire, | :01:06. | :01:09.
also show concern about staff shortages and landing equiplent | :01:10. | :01:11.
Both the airport and the regulator the Civil Aviation Authoritx deny | :01:12. | :01:14.
Passengers boarding the first new city Jet flight to Dublin l`st | :01:15. | :01:30.
month. Part of Cambridge Airport was Mac expansion plans. Behind the | :01:31. | :01:37.
scenes though, things are dhfferent. I do not recommend people flying out | :01:38. | :01:44.
of Cambridge Airport, espechally in the summer months. It's bec`use of | :01:45. | :01:53.
the lack of control over thd airspace and Air Traffic Control. | :01:54. | :01:59.
Bid is a busy airport. 20,000 planes use it every year, from gliders to | :02:00. | :02:12.
commercial flights to milit`ry planes. Confidential documents have | :02:13. | :02:23.
been leaked regarding traffhc control. By September, another | :02:24. | :02:31.
management e`mail reporting that new flights to Europe put added pressure | :02:32. | :02:41.
on the control tower. A man`ger complained about underfunding since | :02:42. | :02:48.
year dot. Landing aids are `ll antique and fell frequently. We have | :02:49. | :02:56.
just taken from Cambridge Ahrport and we are already the city centre. | :02:57. | :03:01.
This is uncontrolled airspace. We don't need to let everyone know we | :03:02. | :03:06.
are here because we are unddr 2 00 feet. That is the problem. There is | :03:07. | :03:15.
an airfield and riding club nearby. There is also a military airbase. It | :03:16. | :03:21.
is clear the runway is wearhng. One of the whistle`blowers would concern | :03:22. | :03:27.
that plans for a new one having put on hold. I saw a jet taking off from | :03:28. | :03:35.
its parking spot and noticed it had large chunk of debris stuck to its | :03:36. | :03:40.
wheel. He was grateful we could intervene and prevent him from | :03:41. | :03:45.
taking off. The airport is regulated by the civil aviation authority and | :03:46. | :03:49.
they have known about the problems forward years, although the airport | :03:50. | :03:53.
has passed its safety inspections. We found more than a dozen CAA | :03:54. | :03:58.
investigations into the skids around Cambridge. In this one pilot had a | :03:59. | :04:03.
near collision with a light aircraft. A helicopter coming within | :04:04. | :04:09.
feet of hitting a vintage adroplane. Two jets described as being very | :04:10. | :04:15.
close to a collision. A traffic control was not found to be at full | :04:16. | :04:19.
in any of these investigations, but the CAA noted that radar was not | :04:20. | :04:26.
always operating. The near lisses are still happening. We took our | :04:27. | :04:38.
findings to an independent `viation consultant. The airport in puestion | :04:39. | :04:44.
is simply not doing enough to ensure the safety of operations. It is | :04:45. | :04:52.
deeply worrying that an airport will cut corners to cut the cost of | :04:53. | :05:02.
operations. So who is to bl`me? The management for not investing and | :05:03. | :05:07.
also the CAA for not looking closely enough. In a statement, the civil | :05:08. | :05:11.
aviation authority told us: They would not comment on the | :05:12. | :05:26.
evidence in our report. So what has been the response from | :05:27. | :05:30.
Cambridge Airport? The airport declined to be interviewed, but they | :05:31. | :05:35.
did issue a statement. They say they refute the implied allegations that | :05:36. | :05:42.
safety is being compromised. They say safety is of paramount | :05:43. | :05:47.
importance. The statement also adds that the CAA has not had anx | :05:48. | :05:54.
complaints from members of staff, but we know that to be diffdrent. | :05:55. | :05:59.
They have been specific allegations. Have they answdred the | :06:00. | :06:08.
queries? They have not. Thex said that there are new Air Traffic | :06:09. | :06:13.
Control is and a manager to ease staff shortages. What have the | :06:14. | :06:22.
operator 's been saying? Thdy have said that they are not award, but | :06:23. | :06:28.
since our report they are sdeking assurance that safety is at the top | :06:29. | :06:31.
of the agenda. Thank you. Government inspectors have seriously | :06:32. | :06:36.
criticised an Islamic primary school in Luton | :06:37. | :06:37.
after books with fundamentalist The Olive Tree School was also | :06:38. | :06:40.
judged by Ofsted as not doing enough to promote other | :06:41. | :06:44.
cultures and beliefs. It comes | :06:45. | :06:47.
on the same day that six Birmingham schools were put in special measures | :06:48. | :06:49.
for failing to protect pupils Let's go live to Luton now | :06:50. | :06:53.
and our reporter Neil Bradford. Ofsted said no significant should be | :06:54. | :07:05.
drawn from the timing of thhs publication. It is, they sax, just a | :07:06. | :07:10.
coincidence, but the concern of the local MP is that that is ex`ctly | :07:11. | :07:14.
what people will do, jumped to the wrong conclusions. The school denies | :07:15. | :07:21.
every word of this report. They saved the inspectors came whth an | :07:22. | :07:25.
agenda. They are seeking legal redress for the. `` legal rddress. | :07:26. | :07:33.
Inside the classroom that appears very little to set this apart from | :07:34. | :07:38.
any other, but when Ofsted visited last month they raised a nulber of | :07:39. | :07:45.
concerns. Olive Tree School is deemed to be inadequate. We have had | :07:46. | :07:54.
people from the church and other faith communities come into our | :07:55. | :08:00.
school to teach our children about their religions. In terms of the | :08:01. | :08:05.
religious influence of the school, we reject it. We think it is based | :08:06. | :08:16.
on Michael Gove's hostility. Ofsted criticise the school librarx for | :08:17. | :08:21.
having too few folks about other religions. They said that some of | :08:22. | :08:28.
the literature promoted Isl`mic extremism. This is a childrdn's `` | :08:29. | :08:43.
these books are not accessible by children. The local MP says the | :08:44. | :08:50.
timing is not helpful. I do have some concerns around Ofsted's moves | :08:51. | :08:58.
to release the report on thd same day that the report about the | :08:59. | :09:04.
schools in Birmingham is released. Ofsted has told leaders at Olive | :09:05. | :09:09.
Tree School that its currictlum must better prepare students for living | :09:10. | :09:15.
in modern`day Britain. Also, library book should not promote views | :09:16. | :09:21.
abhorrent to British societx. The school board says it rejects the | :09:22. | :09:32.
What has been the reaction hn Luton What has been the reaction hn Luton | :09:33. | :09:38.
to Mike? This is a small fee`paying school. | :09:39. | :09:44.
There are only 63 children here Parents and staff are concerned | :09:45. | :09:47.
about the long`term damage this will do to the school polls`macro | :09:48. | :09:51.
dictation. In the community as a whole, there is concern that this | :09:52. | :09:56.
will cause people to critichse Muslims and schools like thhs and | :09:57. | :10:02.
calls wider problems for thd community. But one communitx leader | :10:03. | :10:10.
says B should not be seen as an attack on Muslims or Islam. We did | :10:11. | :10:24.
ask Ofsted to comment, but they said their report speaks for itsdlf. | :10:25. | :10:27.
In Northampton the trial has begun of two len | :10:28. | :10:30.

Events were held in four towns across the cotnty | :14:16. | :14:19.
The day kicked off with a breakfast event on the seafront at Lowestoft. | :14:20. | :14:23.
From there it went to the racecourse at Newmarket then | :14:24. | :14:25.
an athletics competition in Bury St Edmunds and two events in Ipswich. | :14:26. | :14:31.
Our sports editor Jonathan Park is at the second of those | :14:32. | :14:34.
I am pleased to say it has `rrived in Christchurch Park ten minutes | :14:35. | :14:51.
ago. It is on that stage behind me at the moment with their | :14:52. | :14:56.
presentations. It is on its journey to Glasgow and it has been to 6 | :14:57. | :15:01.
countries before it arrived in England. It arrived here in the | :15:02. | :15:06.
region this morning at Lowestoft beach. Before then, we saw ht at | :15:07. | :15:11.
Newmarket Racecourse and Bury Saint Edmunds. 78`year`old Ken Webb at the | :15:12. | :15:19.
privilege of bringing it here. It has been a good day watched by | :15:20. | :15:28.
thousands. Anthony Ogogo made his name in the Olympics but today he | :15:29. | :15:33.
was honoured by the Commonwdalth family. This promenade, I still run | :15:34. | :15:40.
on it to this day. I have rtn up and down this road thousands of years | :15:41. | :15:46.
since I was 12 years old. To come here and have this and joggdd | :15:47. | :15:52.
alongside and have the guys with me interacting, I feel very prhvileged. | :15:53. | :16:00.
More relays occurred with the arrival them of the baton. How | :16:01. | :16:18.
special was that for you? I didn't think I would be honoured bx | :16:19. | :16:28.
bringing the baton relay here. It is a great privilege. We have the | :16:29. | :16:33.
crowds and the Queen's Baton Relay over there. It wouldn't be Newmarket | :16:34. | :16:42.
without a horse. It is a prhvilege to be asked to do this. It hs nice | :16:43. | :16:47.
to be here and taking part. It is good because not many peopld from | :16:48. | :16:52.
the schools can come here. Ht is the teacher's idea to bring us down | :16:53. | :16:59.
here. You have a good teachdr. Yes. I am happy all the people in Suffolk | :17:00. | :17:07.
decided to continue market. Suffolk is the only county in east to | :17:08. | :17:12.
welcome the bat on relay but in Bury Saint Edmunds for all eyes were on | :17:13. | :17:18.

Games, the epic relays come to an end when sport takes centre stage. | :17:23. | :17:35.
Let us have chats to Ken Webb. We had the privilege of bringing it | :17:36. | :17:41.
into the park. I am really honoured. Feeling good. A fitness fan`tic I | :17:42. | :17:49.
am not a fanatic, I just want to keep fat `` fit instead of sitting | :17:50. | :17:53.
down and watching the televhsion. I want to do some exercise. I know | :17:54. | :17:58.
that you very much are keen for this to come to Ipswich and it promotes | :17:59. | :18:03.
the work you have done with sport in the area. That is right bec`use I | :18:04. | :18:08.
have been doing sport all mx life. I come from Jamaica and when H was | :18:09. | :18:14.
young, in my little town, there was only two sports you could do, | :18:15. | :18:18.
cricket or athletics. I wasn't good at cricket so I did athletics. I | :18:19. | :18:24.
used to run the 110 yards sprint, long before your time. I have 1 | :18:25. | :18:33.
phew. When I came to is which, I started taking up swimming. When the | :18:34. | :18:50.
pool opened, I did 30,000 mdtres swimming. I know you will bd back | :18:51. | :18:54.
competing tonight. Tomorrow, this whole event goes to Leicestdr. Back | :18:55. | :18:56.
to you in the studio. A new report suggests that children | :18:57. | :19:00.
should be discouraged or evdn banned from heading the ball | :19:01. | :19:03.
in youth football. A group including MPs and mdmbers | :19:04. | :19:05.
of the House of Lords says the risk of concussion | :19:06. | :19:08.
in young players must be reduced. Among them, the MP for Daventry | :19:09. | :19:11.
who is also a football referee. We've been finding out what | :19:12. | :19:15.
players and their parents think . They are playing with dreams of one | :19:16. | :19:29.
day scoring at Wembley. This youth tournament in Cambridgeshird is for | :19:30. | :19:33.
six to 15`year`olds but even at this grassroots level, head injuries can | :19:34. | :19:38.
be life`threatening and somd admit concussion needs to be taken more | :19:39. | :19:43.
seriously. We need to be more aware and more proactive to deal with it | :19:44. | :19:51.
quicker. From some body watching on the sidelines, some people shout, | :19:52. | :19:57.
"come on, get up. ". They don't know the depth of how badly they could be | :19:58. | :20:01.
heard. This is one of the skills that players are keen to perfect but | :20:02. | :20:07.
there are calls to ban the tse of headers in youth football to reduce | :20:08. | :20:12.
the risk of injury. What do the players and their parents m`ke of | :20:13. | :20:17.
that? It is not fair becausd we like to do headers in our team and that | :20:18. | :20:21.
is our favourite thing to do to score goals. If they didn't have | :20:22. | :20:28.
them, the game would be ruined. In some cases there might be a split | :20:29. | :20:32.
eyebrow but I don't think it needs to be banned. As they get older if | :20:33. | :20:37.
none of them can head the b`ll, the future of youth football and men's | :20:38. | :20:42.
football is out the window. In a report, a panel of MPs suggdsts | :20:43. | :20:56.
I have seen some bad conclusions. I have seen some worse ones in rugby. | :20:57. | :21:05.
Most of my constituents follow Northampton Saints. Every now and | :21:06. | :21:12.
again you see a bad knock. Ht is all about taking knocks but it hs making | :21:13. | :21:16.
sure the people around you, those taking training, they understand how | :21:17. | :21:21.
to deal with those knocks when you get them. Part of the worry is it is | :21:22. | :21:25.
not always obvious when a hdad injury life`threatening and young | :21:26. | :21:29.
players, especially might bd tempted to play on. There is pressure on | :21:30. | :21:35.
sport at all levels to tackle concussion and treat it with the | :21:36. | :21:37.
seriousness it deserves. 73 years ago at the height of | :21:38. | :21:40.
the Second World War, a plane took On board a Hollywood movie | :21:41. | :21:43.
director and his camera man. It should have been straight | :21:44. | :21:48.
forward but it wasn't. A short time later | :21:49. | :21:51.
the plane crashed. The pair were making a prop`ganda | :21:52. | :21:53.
film for 20th Century Fox to encourage | :21:54. | :21:55.
the Americans to support thd war. Now their relatives have tr`velled | :21:56. | :21:58.
thousands of miles to visit their They came to pay their respdcts | :21:59. | :22:15.
Relatives of the pilot and cameraman. He is buried in ` | :22:16. | :22:22.
military grave. The words, 20th Century Fox, etched on his grand `` | :22:23. | :22:28.
gravestone. His son travelldd to be here. He didn't know his father as | :22:29. | :22:32.
he died on his first brother. For us to come together, albeit 73 years | :22:33. | :22:41.
later, it is an emotional thing We were thrilled. It was such ` | :22:42. | :22:54.
surprise and I am delighted. They were at REF Colter shawl to shoot | :22:55. | :23:04.
rare pictures for this movid. He threw thousands of miles for his | :23:05. | :23:08.
search of danger. They were the last shots needed but it was thehr last | :23:09. | :23:20.
ever flight. The plan was to film two regained planes sweeping past | :23:21. | :23:23.
them but one crashed into the aircraft killing all on board. The | :23:24. | :23:28.
wreckage fell into a four `` field. The years, David pieced togdther | :23:29. | :23:31.
what happened and even found parts of the camera they used. Whdn you | :23:32. | :23:38.
can share the information you found with relatives, it is incredibly | :23:39. | :23:43.
rewarding. Decades on, wreckage was still being found this weekdnd. This | :23:44. | :23:50.
has been down here nearly 73 years and for us to come along and be | :23:51. | :23:57.
given parts of the plane, you can't describe it. This movie that they | :23:58. | :24:03.
were filming was finally released in October 1940 one, four months after | :24:04. | :24:05.
their deaths. The World Cup in Brazil is now | :24:06. | :24:12.
two days and twelve hours away. So for football fans, | :24:13. | :24:16.
excitement is building. We want to hear your stories | :24:17. | :24:19.
and your ideas. So here's how things are looking | :24:20. | :24:22.
over the next few days with On Wednesday, we will be talking to | :24:23. | :24:42.
people from our region going to Brazil. Among them, Ollie Shlverton | :24:43. | :24:47.

Get in contact by e`mail or Twitter. In the sunshine, some places got up | :25:30. | :25:58.
to 26 Celsius. Many places were not that far behind. For some of us it | :25:59. | :26:02.
was the warmest day of the xear so far. This is the satellite picture. | :26:03. | :26:06.
We started with a good deal of sunshine but as the afternoon went | :26:07. | :26:10.
on, we have this thick cloud pushing up from the south. We have `n area | :26:11. | :26:14.
of heavy showers in the north`west of Norfolk and bits and pieces of | :26:15. | :26:22.
rain moving into the North Sea. Over the next few hours, just about | :26:23. | :26:25.
anywhere there is the chancd of seeing some thundery downpotrs. | :26:26. | :26:29.
Eventually, they should movd away and by morning, everywhere should be | :26:30. | :26:34.
dry. We are likely to see some patchy mist and fog patches but it | :26:35. | :26:40.
will not be a cold one. All of us staying in double figures. Tomorrow, | :26:41. | :26:48.
high pressure is in charge `nd it will be over the next few d`ys. We | :26:49. | :26:55.
are looking at a largely drx day with a good deal of sunshind. We | :26:56. | :27:00.
could see a few isolated showers anywhere. For most of us, wd should | :27:01. | :27:06.
stay shower free. A fresher feel tomorrow but highs of 22 Celsius. We | :27:07. | :27:11.
have a light to moderate south`westerly wind. I menthon that | :27:12. | :27:18.
high pressure stays with us for the rest of the week. Here is the | :27:19. | :27:24.
outlook. Fine and try all the way. Variable amounts of cloud and | :27:25. | :27:32.
sunshine. Temperatures are `bove average for the time of year. | :27:33. | :27:39.
We will see you tomorrow night. Goodbye. | :27:40. | :27:54.
