Hello. It does look a lot drier for the next couple of days over

0:00:020:00:05

the flooded areas across northern England, but there is

0:00:050:00:07

the potential for more stormy weather around the middle part of the week.

0:00:070:00:11

But certainly the next couple of days are largely dry

0:00:110:00:13

and staying on the mild side, and then, especially on Wednesday,

0:00:130:00:17

increased risk of some strong winds

0:00:170:00:18

but probably more importantly some persistent and heavy rain.

0:00:180:00:22

Now, the storm responsible for that is developing on Monday off the

0:00:220:00:25

western side of Canada, and it will be intensifying as it approaches.

0:00:250:00:29

But it's got a long way to travel,

0:00:290:00:30

hence why there'll always be some uncertainty for the next day or so.

0:00:300:00:34

For Monday, though, most places dry and fine,

0:00:340:00:37

the winds coming up from the south bringing mild air.

0:00:370:00:39

A weakening weather front will bring some patchy

0:00:390:00:41

rain across western fringes of Wales, south-west England,

0:00:410:00:44

and we'll see that rain pepping up a little

0:00:440:00:46

across the west of Northern Ireland late in the day.

0:00:460:00:48

Some showery rain in the west of Scotland,

0:00:480:00:50

but for most it's a dry, fine, bright day.

0:00:500:00:53

Quite breezy, blustery conditions, especially along the Moray Firth.

0:00:530:00:56

Temperatures, though, with southerly winds, well above the average.

0:00:560:00:59

That weak weather front continues to move across the UK on Monday night.

0:00:590:01:03

It does fizzle out a little bit, but there's that area of low pressure.

0:01:030:01:06

It's changing all the while,

0:01:060:01:08

becoming more of a storm as it approaches.

0:01:080:01:11

It's still not with us on Tuesday, just showery rain across Scotland.

0:01:110:01:14

Again, it looks largely dry across the flooded areas of northern

0:01:140:01:18

England, largely dry, too, in North Wales.

0:01:180:01:20

A scattering of showers across southern areas through the day,

0:01:200:01:22

but for many Tuesday's dry, bright with some sunshine.

0:01:220:01:25

Perhaps not quite as warm, but still these temperatures are above average.

0:01:250:01:29

It's been an incredibly mild December.

0:01:290:01:32

And then this storm system continues to get closer to the UK.

0:01:320:01:36

The low itself is tracking to the north.

0:01:360:01:38

Look at the number of isobars, though.

0:01:380:01:40

It is going to get very blustery indeed, gusts of 70mph are possible,

0:01:400:01:44

but the main cause for concern is this wiggling weather front.

0:01:440:01:47

Now, it's a few days away,

0:01:470:01:49

there's always uncertainty about the exact position of that front,

0:01:490:01:52

but there is the real threat of it becoming

0:01:520:01:54

slow-moving and dropping a lot of rain in a short space of time.

0:01:540:01:57

We have an amber "be prepared" weather warning for parts of southern

0:01:570:02:01

and south-west Scotland, but you can see heavy rain also in the areas,

0:02:010:02:05

potentially across northern England, North Wales, Northern Ireland,

0:02:050:02:09

so those areas continue to be at risk from flooding, too.

0:02:090:02:13

That weather front does finally get

0:02:130:02:15

a bit of a move on during Wednesday night.

0:02:150:02:17

And it is a cold front, so behind it we will see colder

0:02:170:02:21

air for Thursday, which is New Year's Eve.

0:02:210:02:23

Weather fronts will bring a few showers, but you will, I think,

0:02:230:02:26

notice that fresher feel, particularly in the evening

0:02:260:02:29

if you're heading out,

0:02:290:02:30

as temperatures could drop off quite sharply.

0:02:300:02:33

Thursday night is a bit of a mess, with lots of weather fronts around,

0:02:330:02:36

plenty of isobars,

0:02:360:02:38

and there's another weather system developing out west on Friday.

0:02:380:02:40

But between those two, there's a bit of a bump in the isobars,

0:02:400:02:44

a brief ridge, and so for many of us New Year's Day looks OK, dry and

0:02:440:02:49

fine, a good day to get out and walk off any excesses of the night before.

0:02:490:02:53

Some rain coming into the west later on, but temperatures actually,

0:02:530:02:56

well, it might actually feel like January, five to six degrees Celsius.

0:02:560:03:00

That low throws rain across the country on Saturday,

0:03:000:03:02

then another brief ridge.

0:03:020:03:03

It looks drier on Sunday, but there are more lows waiting in the

0:03:030:03:06

wings, so the outlook for the first part of 2016, it stays changeable.

0:03:060:03:11

There will be spells of rain but bright or sunny spells, too.

0:03:110:03:15

Overall, it stays on the mild side, but note the "probably".

0:03:150:03:18

There are still a few computer models that suggest we might start

0:03:180:03:21

to see something a little colder through those first few days of 2016.
