Well, thanks for joining me. Let's see if this cold weather's going

0:00:030:00:07

to last for a few more days yet and the answer is yes,

0:00:070:00:09

it is, we've got more cold weather

0:00:090:00:11

on the way,

0:00:110:00:12

not desperately cold, but chilly.

0:00:120:00:14

In fact, very chilly first thing

0:00:140:00:16

in the morning on Tuesday across

0:00:160:00:18

southern and south-eastern areas

0:00:180:00:19

after a very, very frosty night.

0:00:190:00:21

But also frosty across

0:00:210:00:22

the northern half of Scotland.

0:00:220:00:24

Here, too, across the glens,

0:00:240:00:25

temperatures overnight have

0:00:250:00:27

been close to -10 degrees

0:00:270:00:29

and even more in one or two areas.

0:00:290:00:31

Now, for northern England

0:00:310:00:32

and for basically many western areas

0:00:320:00:34

of the UK, it's around 5, 6 degrees

0:00:340:00:36

during the afternoon,

0:00:360:00:37

but this part of the country,

0:00:370:00:40

the South East, really chilly day on Tuesday.

0:00:400:00:43

Some sunshine, yes,

0:00:430:00:44

but after a very frosty night,

0:00:440:00:45

those temperatures struggling.

0:00:450:00:47

You have to get down

0:00:470:00:48

to south-western parts of the country

0:00:480:00:49

before you get temperatures

0:00:490:00:51

of around 7 degrees there in Plymouth.

0:00:510:00:53

Chilly in Cardiff, 4 Celsius.

0:00:530:00:55

And just that little bit milder

0:00:550:00:56

there in Belfast, around 7 degrees.

0:00:560:00:58

So wherever you are, you get the message,

0:00:580:01:00

it's around 4 to 7 degrees

0:01:000:01:04

and it's going to stay like that

0:01:040:01:14

For Wednesday, then, high pressure

0:01:140:01:15

in charge of the weather here.

0:01:150:01:17

That's basically a block,

0:01:170:01:18

it stops this milder Atlantic air

0:01:180:01:21

sitting here coming our way.

0:01:210:01:23

It will eventually reach us

0:01:230:01:24

but not yet, not at this stage,

0:01:240:01:26

so this is Wednesday.

0:01:260:01:27

Another frosty start to the day,

0:01:270:01:29

a little bit of sunshine,

0:01:290:01:30

and a bit of cloud too.

0:01:300:01:31

You can see where the shade is,

0:01:310:01:32

indicating the cloud,

0:01:320:01:33

and some sunshine poking through

0:01:330:01:35

there across Yorkshire, Wales,

0:01:350:01:37

maybe southern parts of England as well.

0:01:370:01:39

And another chilly day,

0:01:390:01:40

around 3 to 4 degrees.

0:01:400:01:42

Then on Wednesday,

0:01:420:01:43

we start to see this area of high pressure

0:01:430:01:46

nudge away just that little bit

0:01:460:01:47

towards the east

0:01:470:01:48

and these weather fronts start

0:01:480:01:50

to make a little bit more progress.

0:01:500:01:51

That means that the jet stream's ramping up,

0:01:510:01:54

that means the jet stream

0:01:540:01:55

is pushing the milder, wetter, cloudier,

0:01:550:01:57

windy weather in our direction,

0:01:570:01:58

so you can see temperatures

0:01:580:01:59

already possibly into double figures

0:01:590:02:01

across some of these western areas.

0:02:010:02:03

And here's a look at the jet stream,

0:02:030:02:04

end of the week.

0:02:040:02:05

It's a quite strong one,

0:02:050:02:06

pushing the weather fronts

0:02:060:02:08

in our direction

0:02:080:02:09

and then it kind of grinds

0:02:090:02:10

almost to a halt, or rather, changes

0:02:100:02:12

direction and moves northwards

0:02:120:02:14

rather than zipping across us.

0:02:140:02:15

What does that mean?

0:02:150:02:16

Well, basically that is an indication that the milder air is going

0:02:160:02:20

to be grazing western areas of the UK, whereas the further east you are,

0:02:200:02:24

the more likely you are

0:02:240:02:26

to hold onto some of that colder air.

0:02:260:02:27

So imagine if the cold air is sitting

0:02:270:02:29

across the continent here,

0:02:290:02:30

it will be pushed in the direction

0:02:300:02:32

of East Anglia, but the milder Atlantic air

0:02:320:02:34

is reaching many western areas,

0:02:340:02:35

so this is where we've got the mild conditions,

0:02:350:02:38

11 degrees, say, in Cardiff,

0:02:380:02:39

but possibly colder for Norwich and London.

0:02:390:02:42

I've deliberately left out those temperatures just to give you

0:02:420:02:45

an indication that temperatures could be some 5, 6 degrees colder here

0:02:450:02:49

compared to what we might have across many western areas in the UK,

0:02:490:02:52

so the mild air is heading our way but not for everybody

0:02:520:02:55

and then next week, for us to get milder air,

0:02:550:02:59

we need a jet stream to cut straight across us,

0:02:590:03:01

but what's going to happen, this area

0:03:010:03:04

of low pressure will keep sending air from the south which will be

0:03:040:03:07

gnawing on the western areas of the UK,

0:03:070:03:09

so not really influencing

0:03:090:03:11

an awful lot of eastern areas of the country

0:03:110:03:13

and that just means that the floodgates will remain open next week

0:03:130:03:16

for perhaps, perhaps,

0:03:160:03:18

cos there's no certainty, for some of that colder air to once again return

0:03:180:03:22

to many eastern areas of the UK,

0:03:220:03:24

so it's a bit of a west-east split

0:03:240:03:26

over the next week or so.

0:03:260:03:28

Thanks for watching.

0:03:280:03:29

So, no-one pays tax here? No-one pays taxes.

0:03:350:03:38

BBC2 shows you how to do it.

0:03:380:03:41

I'd like to take you all offshore

0:03:410:03:43

to legally avoid tax.

0:03:430:03:44

It is a licence to print cash.

0:03:440:03:47

And how not to do it.
