Many of us were glad to see the back of the month of April. | 0:00:02 | 0:00:05
We had everything bar the kitchen sink | 0:00:05 | 0:00:07
thrown at us last week, didn't we? | 0:00:07 | 0:00:08
Yes, we had rain, we had hail, even some snow, | 0:00:08 | 0:00:12
as depicted by this fabulous weather-watcher's picture, | 0:00:12 | 0:00:15
and widespread frost across the country. | 0:00:15 | 0:00:17
However, change of month, change of weather type | 0:00:17 | 0:00:20
and with this week we are going to gradually see a warming trend. | 0:00:20 | 0:00:23
Perhaps into the weekend, temperatures into the low 20s - | 0:00:23 | 0:00:27
way above the average for this time of year. | 0:00:27 | 0:00:30
More on that in just a moment. | 0:00:30 | 0:00:31
Let's get back to the here and now and for the remainder of | 0:00:31 | 0:00:34
Bank Holiday Monday it looks likely that we will continue to see | 0:00:34 | 0:00:37
some wet and windy weather pushing in from the west, | 0:00:37 | 0:00:40
driving its way steadily south and east. | 0:00:40 | 0:00:42
Some of that rain heavy on west-facing slopes | 0:00:42 | 0:00:45
and the winds pretty strong as well. | 0:00:45 | 0:00:47
Ahead of it, it'll stay dry for most of the day with rain | 0:00:47 | 0:00:50
arriving in the south-east corner by the end of the afternoon. | 0:00:50 | 0:00:53
Behind it, a trail of showers | 0:00:53 | 0:00:55
making its way across Northern Ireland into parts of Scotland, | 0:00:55 | 0:01:00
some of those showers quite intense but it will be milder than of late. | 0:01:00 | 0:01:03
A slice of sunshine as the rain starts to ease | 0:01:03 | 0:01:06
and not too many showers across northern England, | 0:01:06 | 0:01:08
Wales and the south-west, | 0:01:08 | 0:01:10
our weather front by the middle of the afternoon sitting through | 0:01:10 | 0:01:13
Lincolnshire down into East Anglia and the south-east corner. | 0:01:13 | 0:01:16
But those temperatures still on the mild side. | 0:01:16 | 0:01:19
Now, the rain will ease away through the night and behind | 0:01:19 | 0:01:22
we will see clearer skies across England | 0:01:22 | 0:01:24
and Wales but the winds still remain a feature to the north and west. | 0:01:24 | 0:01:27
We'll still keep some showers, some of them wintry | 0:01:27 | 0:01:29
for a time through the night and they will | 0:01:29 | 0:01:31
continue into Tuesday with high pressure building slowly but surely. | 0:01:31 | 0:01:35
Highs generally on Tuesday of around 10 to 16 degrees, | 0:01:35 | 0:01:38
a good deal of dry weather in the story. | 0:01:38 | 0:01:41
The high pressure then moves across England and Wales, | 0:01:41 | 0:01:44
allows for clearer skies | 0:01:44 | 0:01:45
and a chilly night into the start of Wednesday morning | 0:01:45 | 0:01:48
but pushes the weather front up into the north-west. | 0:01:48 | 0:01:51
Most of the unsettled weather will sit here. | 0:01:51 | 0:01:53
But that does mean that there is a potential, | 0:01:53 | 0:01:55
first thing on Wednesday, to see a light frost, | 0:01:55 | 0:01:58
perhaps the last of the frost we will see for quite some time. | 0:01:58 | 0:02:01
But there will be some lovely spells of sunshine across England | 0:02:01 | 0:02:04
and Wales and with a southerly wind, | 0:02:04 | 0:02:06
temperatures will recover to highs of 17 degrees. | 0:02:06 | 0:02:08
Wetter and windier weather continues up into the north-west | 0:02:08 | 0:02:12
and that frontal system will slowly edge its way south | 0:02:12 | 0:02:15
and east during Thursday but almost dying off in situ, really - | 0:02:15 | 0:02:18
a band of cloud, the odd spot or two of rain by then. | 0:02:18 | 0:02:21
Showers and breezy following on behind, dry, sunny and pleasantly | 0:02:21 | 0:02:25
warm by now with highs of 19 to 20 degrees not out of the question. | 0:02:25 | 0:02:30
As we move out of Thursday into Friday, we've got | 0:02:30 | 0:02:32
high pressure centred over to Scandinavia and this area of | 0:02:32 | 0:02:35
low pressure down into the south-west near Spain and Portugal. | 0:02:35 | 0:02:39
The position of that low could be quite interesting as to whether | 0:02:39 | 0:02:42
or how much it allows warm, moist air to move up from Africa. | 0:02:42 | 0:02:47
But it does look on Friday as though things will stay relatively quiet, | 0:02:47 | 0:02:51
relatively dry and relatively warm, really, | 0:02:51 | 0:02:53
with highs of 20 degrees, | 0:02:53 | 0:02:55
possibly warmer still as we move into Saturday. | 0:02:55 | 0:02:57
But always the risk of the threat of perhaps something a little | 0:02:57 | 0:03:01
more thundery as we move into the start of the weekend. | 0:03:01 | 0:03:03
So this trend looks likely to continue | 0:03:03 | 0:03:06
into the 8 to 10 day period, with high pressure into Scandinavia, | 0:03:06 | 0:03:10
low down into the south-west and that's allowing that | 0:03:10 | 0:03:13
warm, humid air to push up, | 0:03:13 | 0:03:15
but maybe also responsible for sparking off a few | 0:03:15 | 0:03:19
thundery downpours as those temperatures reach the mid-20s, | 0:03:19 | 0:03:23
potentially, into that 6 to 10 day period. | 0:03:23 | 0:03:25
So, a lot to look forward to over the next few days. | 0:03:25 | 0:03:28 |
