17/06/2016 Weather for the Week Ahead

Hello. I suspect if we did an opinion poll on this week's weather,

most of us would be in the 'miserable' camp.

It's been awful...but not for all.

Look at this lovely picture

from Guernsey.

In fact, we've seen beautiful sunshine

across the Northern Isles this week.

But for many

the shower clouds gathered

and, when they came,

they came with intensity.

They've brought localised flooding

in places too.

The low pressure responsible

is drifting away.

High pressure is set to build

and quieten things down

as we move towards the weekend.

It's only a fleeting glance.

Further lows await in the wings,

ready to arrive

for the start of a new working week.

For Friday, there's potential

for rain.

Some of it light and patchy,

drifting south and east

out of eastern Scotland

and into north-east England.

We'll see thundery downpours

across England and Wales.

They should be further south

and east, compared to recent days.

Some of them will be heavy.

Possibility again of localised flooding.

The further north and west you go,

the best of the brightness

you will see on Friday.

The showers will ease Friday

through to Saturday,

but we'll still see

the legacy of low cloud and drizzle

filtering in off the North Sea

and spilling south and east.

It could be a disappointing start

first thing in the morning

across the south-east on Saturday.

Be patient.

The weather will improve.

Brightness and sunshine

will push through out to the west.

That's where we're likely to see

the best of the weather on Saturday.

Highest values of 12-18 degrees.

A good deal of dry weather.

As we go into Sunday,

it looks like we'll see

a weak weather front

pushing in from the north and west.

By now, just a band of cloud

with maybe some isolated showers.

But that means that eastern areas

may see more sun

for the second half of the weekend.

As a consequence,

we'll see temperatures a degree or so higher

with a south-westerly wind taking over.

Highs of 12 to 20 degrees.

That's 68 Fahrenheit.

That weather front moves through on Monday

bringing some wet and windy weather

for a time, with showers pushing in.

The wind still coming from a south-westerly direction,

so it's a milder source. 17-20 degrees.

If you keep the sunshine,

you might see temperatures into the low 20s.

The front clears through,

Monday into Tuesday.

Still rather breezy into the north-west.

Still the potential for showers on Tuesday.

It looks like we'll see outbreaks of showers

easing away, improving again

to more sunshine coming through.

Highs likely of 17-22 degrees.

That's 72 Fahrenheit.

If we move out of Tuesday

to the 6-10 day period,

we keep that high potentially

down to the south,

but always the risk

of tightly squeezed isobars

into the north and west,

and low pressures moving in.

And it looks as though the jet stream will start to be

more of a key player.

It's been fairly weak and flabby in recent days,

but it looks likely to sandwich itself through

the spine of the country, with low pressure to the north,

and that will keep things pretty unsettled...

High pressure to the south, which potentially could give us

some drier weather.

However, if the jet stream has more of a defined kink to it,

the 6-10 day period will still keep the low pressure up to

the north-west, but we could drive in more warm, humid air from

the near continent, and we all know what that could potentially lead to.

Yes, it could stay more unsettled and windy,

but, despite it being warm,

we could see the potential for some thundery activity in the south-east.

A lot of uncertainty. We'll firm up as and when.

Their own war heroes are arming themselves to march on the palace.
