Hello. Huge weekend of events coming up, | 0:00:03 | 0:00:05
which we'll look at in more detail shortly. | 0:00:05 | 0:00:07
But before we get on with that, been talking about the summer | 0:00:07 | 0:00:09
over the past few days, if you're wondering where that's been hiding | 0:00:09 | 0:00:12
recently - it's certainly been across Iberia, | 0:00:12 | 0:00:14
temperatures so far this week | 0:00:14 | 0:00:16
peaked around 45 degrees - inland Spain, | 0:00:16 | 0:00:18
into the Balearics and around in Almeria we've got 34 or 35 degrees. | 0:00:18 | 0:00:23
Sparking off some storms inland, as it will do again on Thursday. | 0:00:23 | 0:00:26
Over the next few days, though, we're going to see the heat | 0:00:26 | 0:00:29
build again, especially into the weekend. | 0:00:29 | 0:00:31
We're tapping into a little bit more warmth ourselves at the moment, | 0:00:31 | 0:00:34
because winds are coming up from the south-west, | 0:00:34 | 0:00:37
so after a milder start to Thursday, once the sun is out it | 0:00:37 | 0:00:39
feels very pleasant but not much sun across some parts of | 0:00:39 | 0:00:41
northern England, Wales and then later into the south-west, | 0:00:41 | 0:00:44
wriggling weather front here bringing some occasional rain, | 0:00:44 | 0:00:47
mainly on western hills. A lot of you will be dry but lots | 0:00:47 | 0:00:49
of showers in the far north of Scotland | 0:00:49 | 0:00:51
and a blustery breeze with it. | 0:00:51 | 0:00:53
In the sunshine, temperatures into the 20s, though feeling more | 0:00:53 | 0:00:56
humid the further south-east you are. | 0:00:56 | 0:00:58
And quite a muggy night through Thursday night and into Friday. | 0:00:58 | 0:01:02
Across southern areas, all that cloud will be in place, | 0:01:02 | 0:01:04
further north the showers get more frequent again into Scotland. | 0:01:04 | 0:01:07
And Like we start Thursday, we'll start Friday with temperatures | 0:01:07 | 0:01:11
in many places in the mid teens. | 0:01:11 | 0:01:13
But it's a bit of a messy set-up for Friday - got an area | 0:01:13 | 0:01:15
of low pressure pushing across the north. Lots of cloud elsewhere. | 0:01:15 | 0:01:18
Potentially a trailing weather front down across southern parts of | 0:01:18 | 0:01:21
England and Wales. | 0:01:21 | 0:01:23
And so that means this'll probably be a very cloudy zone through | 0:01:23 | 0:01:26
the day, a few glimpses of brightness, | 0:01:26 | 0:01:27
but one or two showers coming and going on that. | 0:01:27 | 0:01:29
The odd heavy one never too far away from Wimbledon. | 0:01:29 | 0:01:32
Midlands, Wales northwards - after some heavy showers, | 0:01:32 | 0:01:34
especially across Scotland to begin with, | 0:01:34 | 0:01:36
afternoon looking dry and bright for a time, before | 0:01:36 | 0:01:39
that big area of low pressure we've been talking about all week, | 0:01:39 | 0:01:41
comes towards us. It's going to squeeze out the humid | 0:01:41 | 0:01:44
and warm air that bit quicker than we were anticipating 24 hours ago, | 0:01:44 | 0:01:47
so maybe not quite as warm on Saturday across eastern areas. | 0:01:47 | 0:01:49
And it does mean weather fronts push through quicker, | 0:01:49 | 0:01:52
but that's a significant area of low pressure to the north-west. | 0:01:52 | 0:01:54
Could see widespread gales across parts of western Scotland, | 0:01:54 | 0:01:57
Northern Ireland - the heaviest, most persistent of the rain. | 0:01:57 | 0:02:00
Starts wet in East Anglia and the south-east, | 0:02:00 | 0:02:02
that hopefully will clear to sunny spells across the rest of England | 0:02:02 | 0:02:05
and Wales but that weather front could trail close to the south. | 0:02:05 | 0:02:08
So, a big weekend of sports and events. | 0:02:08 | 0:02:10
If you're heading to T in the Park, Scottish Open, you'll certainly | 0:02:10 | 0:02:14
need waterproofs on Saturday - rain at times here, | 0:02:14 | 0:02:16
maybe a little bit brighter for Sunday. The grand prix and | 0:02:16 | 0:02:19
Wimbledon always looking a little more promising for drier weather, | 0:02:19 | 0:02:22
but showers never going to be too far away, and with that uncertainty | 0:02:22 | 0:02:25
about how close the front is Saturday into Sunday, be | 0:02:25 | 0:02:27
prepared, there could be some heavy rain, especially across the south. | 0:02:27 | 0:02:30
That should hopefully clear, though, through Sunday, | 0:02:30 | 0:02:32
sunny spells, isolated showers by this stage. Blustery day across | 0:02:32 | 0:02:35
the board, temperatures have dropped down from what we've seen | 0:02:35 | 0:02:38
through the week and we'll see frequent showers for many, | 0:02:38 | 0:02:41
most persistent in northern Scotland. But as I said, | 0:02:41 | 0:02:43
Scottish Open, you might get a bit of shelter. That low pressure | 0:02:43 | 0:02:46
gradually pulls away as we start next week, but it just opens | 0:02:46 | 0:02:48
the door to north-westerly winds to begin the new working week. | 0:02:48 | 0:02:51
So, OK, nice enough in the sunshine, in the breeze feeling cooler | 0:02:51 | 0:02:54
than this week, | 0:02:54 | 0:02:55
showers pushing from north-west to south-east on that flow. | 0:02:55 | 0:02:58
Some of you will miss them altogether, | 0:02:58 | 0:03:00
but some of the showers could be heavy and thundery at times. | 0:03:00 | 0:03:03
So we start with that north-westerly flow to begin with, | 0:03:03 | 0:03:05
but it does look like high pressure will gradually build in from the | 0:03:05 | 0:03:08
Azores during the days that follow, but only a brief ridge of | 0:03:08 | 0:03:11
high pressure, because wet and windy weather then builds in | 0:03:11 | 0:03:14
for the middle part of the week once again. | 0:03:14 | 0:03:17
Some of that could be associated with a deep area of low pressure, | 0:03:17 | 0:03:19
which whips through, and then we're back to high pressure building in. | 0:03:19 | 0:03:23
So, a very changeable week next week, after what has been | 0:03:23 | 0:03:26
a changeable summer so far. Darren Bett will have more, | 0:03:26 | 0:03:28
same time tomorrow. | 0:03:28 | 0:03:30
Gregg and Chris are back to help us slash the weekly food bill. | 0:03:32 | 0:03:35
Let's get to work. | 0:03:35 | 0:03:36
They'll look at the mistakes we make... | 0:03:36 | 0:03:37 |
