24/07/2016 Weather for the Week Ahead

Hello - for some parts of the UK, the humid weather lasted

into the start of the weekend.

On Saturday, temperatures peaked at 29 Celsius

in Northolt, west London.

28 degrees here in Cambridge -

our weather watchers caught the sunshine

across southern and eastern parts of the UK.

Different story further north -

barely 15 degrees across parts of the Hebrides

and as you can see, we finished the day

with rather grey, dreich conditions.

This is the weather front responsible -

it links back into a little wave

where we see the rain intensify a touch

as we go into Sunday and that rain will run

its way northwards and eastwards.

That said, many eastern parts of England,

another fine day in store -

not as much sunshine around as we saw during Saturday,

and across western parts of Scotland,

a slightly brighter day, but rain will push

from the south-west towards the north-east

through the day.

May get towards the east Midlands,

a fairly showery nature, but East Anglia, south-east

holding on to humid air at this stage,

temperatures at best around 26 degrees.

Further west, a grey afternoon,

some occasional light and patchy rain,

heavier bursts will've been earlier on in the day

and we could see a few heavier bursts

across northern parts of England,

edging its way into southern parts of Scotland.

North-west Highlands of Scotland

shouldn't fare too bad

compared with what we saw on Saturday afternoon,

but some heavy showers and thunderstorms

work through Northern Ireland -

during the evening,

they'll push into Western Scotland.

Finish the day with some of the wettest weather

in Western Scotland,

but further south, dry for most.

There will be a zone of cloud.

It's a weak weather front,

pushing its way eastwards - here it is -

and that will be sweeping away

the humid air off into the near continent

as this area of low pressure develops

towards the north of Scotland.

The humid air will be pushed away

and opening the door to winds off the Atlantic,

bringing fresher conditions by and large.

Already got some of that to the west of the UK,

but it'll be the first time in a while

we've felt that across parts of eastern England.

A bright day to come here, with some sunny spells.

The sunshine a little on the hazy side -

a bit of high cloud around on Monday.

A few showers in the west and across Scotland,

the odd heavier one -

can't rule out odd rumbles of thunder,

but dry and brighter weather in-between,

and first time in a while, just about the whole UK,

temperatures around where they should be

for the time of year, if not a little bit below.

A cool night will follow to take us into Tuesday -

still got the winds coming off the Atlantic,

got to watch what's happening towards the west of Ireland.

Whilst eastern areas dry and bright

with some sunshine, a few showers in the west,

we start to see low pressure push in

to Northern Ireland and Scotland.

It looks like this sort of area at the moment,

but how quickly that moves across the UK

and how slightly far north or south it will be,

we'll have to keep a very close eye on.

To the south, we'll see the breeziest conditions,

to take us into Wednesday,

and even if it's pushed towards the east of us

by this stage, it'll still leave

a legacy of cloud and a few showers around

to take us through Wednesday and we go

through the middle of the week as we start the week,

with temperatures high teens to low 20s.

A quiet spell, then, through the night

and into the start of Thursday,

but by the end of Thursday,

this area of low pressure

will start to have more of a bearing across the UK.

This time of year tends to bring in

showery bursts of rain more than anything else

and that area of low pressure,

through Friday, will work across the UK,

rain possible just about anywhere.

Brighter spells in-between,

but into the weekend, it should be to the east,

high pressure to the south-west, but with that sort of set-up,

we'll be dragging our air down from the north-west,

so we're not going to go back to that hot and humid weather

we've had of late and feeling quite cool in the breeze

across northern and western parts of the UK, it looks like,

into next weekend and the start of next week,

with sunshine and showers generally the name of the game.
