Hello there. If you've been keeping up to date with our forecasts

0:00:020:00:05

over the last day or so, you've probably heard that there's

0:00:050:00:07

a higher degree of uncertainty than normal

0:00:070:00:09

in terms of the computer models struggling to agree

0:00:090:00:11

on how the weather is going to develop.

0:00:110:00:13

Particularly over the weekend, out in the Atlantic,

0:00:130:00:15

we've got deepening areas of low pressure

0:00:150:00:18

but a lot of tropical warmth and moisture

0:00:180:00:19

from old tropical storms and hurricanes

0:00:190:00:21

and that is causing some complications

0:00:210:00:23

for the computer models

0:00:230:00:24

on how things are going to develop,

0:00:240:00:26

particularly by the time we get to Sunday.

0:00:260:00:28

Friday is a little bit more straightforward,

0:00:280:00:30

we've got a lot of dry, settled weather

0:00:300:00:31

for southern and eastern areas

0:00:310:00:33

but a band of rain moving in from the west,

0:00:330:00:35

strengthening winds here as well,

0:00:350:00:37

so some particularly wet and windy weather on Friday,

0:00:370:00:39

gales for some northern areas.

0:00:390:00:41

Sunshine, 22 or 23 degrees,

0:00:410:00:42

in the south and the east.

0:00:420:00:44

But this very wet and windy weather

0:00:440:00:46

will push eastwards across all areas

0:00:460:00:48

through Friday night and overnight into Saturday.

0:00:480:00:50

Those very strong gusts

0:00:500:00:51

eventually dying down towards the north-west

0:00:510:00:54

but the wet and windy weather arriving

0:00:540:00:56

across central southern England

0:00:560:00:57

by first thing Saturday.

0:00:570:00:58

Now, there will be some uncertainty

0:00:580:01:00

about the development of this area of rain on Saturday

0:01:000:01:03

in terms of its detail, its location and its timing

0:01:030:01:05

but we're most likely to see that

0:01:050:01:07

rain lingering through much of the day, really,

0:01:070:01:09

across southern and south-eastern parts of England

0:01:090:01:11

whereas elsewhere across the country,

0:01:110:01:13

it's not a bad day.

0:01:130:01:14

A return to fresher conditions

0:01:140:01:16

with some sunshine on offer too.

0:01:160:01:18

15 or 16 for most areas in the north

0:01:180:01:20

whereas by the south,

0:01:200:01:21

20 or 21 degrees under that rain.

0:01:210:01:23

Then moving through Saturday night into Sunday,

0:01:230:01:26

that's where things start to get more complicated.

0:01:260:01:28

There'll be this deepening area

0:01:280:01:30

of low pressure moving in from the Atlantic

0:01:300:01:32

and trained within that area of low pressure,

0:01:320:01:34

a lot of tropical warmth and moisture.

0:01:340:01:36

Now, the first scenario that the computer models

0:01:360:01:38

are thinking could happen is this low

0:01:380:01:39

moves in towards the north-west of the UK,

0:01:390:01:41

bringing initially wet and windy weather

0:01:410:01:43

to Northern Ireland, parts of Scotland,

0:01:430:01:45

brisk winds before it moves its way

0:01:450:01:47

south-eastwards across the country.

0:01:470:01:49

But another scenario is that

0:01:490:01:50

that area of low pressure could stay out

0:01:500:01:53

towards the south-west so I think most of us

0:01:530:01:55

avoiding the worst of the wet and windy weather.

0:01:550:01:57

Just some scattered showers for some western areas,

0:01:570:02:00

in particular, through the course of the day

0:02:000:02:02

whereas eastern areas are likely to stay dry.

0:02:020:02:04

So, things are looking rather tricky on Sunday.

0:02:040:02:06

It does look like many central and eastern areas

0:02:060:02:08

will see the best of the dry and the bright weather.

0:02:080:02:11

More chance of seeing stronger winds

0:02:110:02:13

and the arrival of some rain

0:02:130:02:14

for many north-western and western parts.

0:02:140:02:17

And then, as we look ahead into the new working week,

0:02:170:02:19

things start to get a little bit more certain again.

0:02:190:02:22

Computer models start to agree

0:02:220:02:23

that that area of low pressure

0:02:230:02:25

will probably push off to the north of the UK,

0:02:250:02:27

still some rain perhaps

0:02:270:02:28

for some northern and north-western areas

0:02:280:02:30

on Monday but certainly for England and Wales,

0:02:300:02:32

look at those temperatures -

0:02:320:02:33

we're back into the mid-20s.

0:02:330:02:34

Lots of dry weather on the cards,

0:02:340:02:36

down to the fact

0:02:360:02:37

that we've got this big area of high pressure

0:02:370:02:39

dominating things across central Europe,

0:02:390:02:41

the winds rotating around that area of high pressure.

0:02:410:02:44

So, that will bring a lot of dry weather

0:02:440:02:46

on into Tuesday across many parts.

0:02:460:02:48

In the north and the west,

0:02:480:02:49

always a chance of more cloud here

0:02:490:02:51

and some drizzly outbreaks of rain

0:02:510:02:52

whereas we could see 27 degrees

0:02:520:02:54

in the sunshine towards the south-east on Tuesday.

0:02:540:02:57

So, that theme continues through

0:02:570:02:59

the middle part of the week.

0:02:590:03:01

We're likely to see that

0:03:010:03:02

feed of southerly air coming in

0:03:020:03:04

so bringing relatively dry and warm weather

0:03:040:03:06

from Spain and southern France too,

0:03:060:03:08

importing that towards our shores.

0:03:080:03:10

Northern and western areas,

0:03:100:03:11

we're seeing a chance of some slightly cooler

0:03:110:03:13

and more unsettled weather.

0:03:130:03:15

Later in the week though,

0:03:150:03:16

the influence of that high will slip away

0:03:160:03:18

slowly towards the south

0:03:180:03:20

and that will open the doors

0:03:200:03:21

for areas of low pressure

0:03:210:03:22

to move in from the Atlantic

0:03:220:03:23

so by the end of the period,

0:03:230:03:25

more unsettled weather likely

0:03:250:03:27

for all parts of the country.

0:03:270:03:28

Bye for now.

0:03:280:03:29

The stars are out for a glittering night of awards,

0:03:310:03:34

celebrating the inspirational heroes

0:03:340:03:37

who've dedicated their lives to helping others...
