19/09/2016 Weather for the Week Ahead

Hello, there. Forget about 30 degrees, forget about a month's rain

in 24 hours.

This week, the weather is much more normal for the time of year.

No extremes on the way.

We're going to find some sunshine from time to time.

There will be some rain, too, nothing particularly heavy,

most of it in the north west,

and temperatures nearer maybe just above normal for the time of year.

We've got some weather fronts on the scene on Tuesday.

This one will give us more impetus from midweek onwards.

This one here is very weak but it is stuck across eastern England so

we're seeing more cloud and we're seeing some further rain or drizzle.

It should freshen up a touch, though,

as we head into the afternoon.

Further west, and north, no such worries.

One or two early mist and fog patches but otherwise,

some sunshine from time to time.

So, another decent day for Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Later in the north west, will see the cloud increasing,

maybe a few showers arriving, too.

For north west England, for Wales,

and for the south west of England this time, it should be dry.

There will be little sunshine as well,

so brightening up from time to time.

It's eastern England again that will be a bit of a struggle,

not as wet, though, as Monday, the rain and drizzle does tend to

peter out but it brightens up, watch out for a few heavy showers

for East Anglia and the extreme south east of England.

That weather front eventually dies out by Wednesday and then we

look to the west to see our next weather system,

an area of low pressure, weather front arriving to bring some

rain in the afternoon on Wednesday to Northern Ireland.

Strengthening winds, ahead of it

a few sharp showers for the western areas.

Eastern parts of the UK, probably try,

and with some sunshine in eastern England, a warmer day by Wednesday.

That weather front, then, sweeps across the whole of the UK

as we move to Thursday.

Most of the rain overnight in Scotland but on Thursday,

that weather front could trigger a few sharp showers across

East Anglia and the south east of England.

The rest of England and Wales, probably dry.

Quite a bit of sunshine, too.

Sunshine for eastern Scotland.

Western Scotland, Northern Ireland,

the winds will freshen and will blow in some outbreaks of rain here.

And more to come probably on Friday.

Those showers should be clearing away from the south east on Friday,

most of England and Wales, decent day, some sunshine.

Wetter, windier weather

for western Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The winds pick up for all of us on Friday,

but it is this conveyor belt of cloud,

thick cloud, outbreaks of rain, that's just making a beeline

on Saturday for Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Heavy rain over the western hills of Scotland, gale force winds

are likely around some western hills and coasts across the UK.

England and Wales, probably a decent day on Saturday.

Some sunshine, especially towards the south east,

and here it will be quite warm as well.

Now, at the moment, on Sunday,

it looks like this band of rain should sweep across England

and Wales, clearing sufficiently early enough to give us some

sunshine and a few blustery showers.

But it could stall, it could be delayed.

If we look out across the other side of the Atlantic,

there's a stronger jet that's propagating our way.

Those upper level winds pick up and steer areas of low pressure

towards the north west of the UK so we continue this north west

south east split.

The position of the jet stream crucial because it keeps

warmer more tropical air across much of the UK

over the six to ten day period

so towards the north west, again closer to areas of low pressure,

it will be windier, there will be rain at times.

Towards the south east, though, not completely dry,

but there will be drier conditions.

Some sunshine, lighter winds,

some early mist and fog but here it should feel bit warmer as well.
