Hello. September 2016, I'm sure, will be remembered for its sunshine

and its warmth.

In fact, we had to wait for the autumn equinox

to almost kick-start the weather and make it remember it's autumn.

We needed something a little more unsettled and wetter

and windier.

Also, at this time of year,

into the mix come the storms

that move across the Atlantic.

Both tropical storms and hurricane status.

This was Karl

that brushed to the east of Bermuda.

As it pushes across the cooler waters,

it loses its storm identity,

but it does interject some extra energy

into the atmosphere

and can bring some unseasonably wetter

and windier weather.

For us, over the next few days, yes,

there are areas of low pressure

in the northwest and we'll see gales

to the extreme north of Scotland,

but we're not too concerned

about this causing an issue.

Elsewhere, it looks like Tuesday

will be overcast with patchy rain.

Perhaps lingering in the far southeast.

It's going to be mild,

with the winds still coming

from a south-westerly direction.

The winds and some sharp showers

continuing to the far north and west.

That weather front will gradually meander

south and east,

but it is going to be replaced

by another one again

into the far north and west.

This will bring yet more wet and windy weather

to the northwest of the country.

The isobars still bringing wind

from a south-westerly direction,

so it is going to be a pleasant day

in terms of the feel of things of Wednesday.

If we get more sunshine,

we'll get more warmth into the southeast.

22 degrees possible.

Even with the wind and rain further northwest,

we could see highs of 19 into Belfast.

But once the next weather front clears through,

it will start to introduce

something a bit fresher.

The warm air reverts back

to the near continent

and we start to see something more seasonal.

Temperatures where they should be

for this time of year.

On Thursday,

we'll see a weather front clearing away,

the rain weakening,

and blustery showers likely behind.

11 to 18 degrees, the high.

Similar story into Friday.

Perhaps fewer showers and some sunshine,

but it will be a blustery day

and it will feel noticeably fresher

than it has done of late.

Little change as we move

into the start of the weekend.

There's potential for seeing more rain

up into the extreme north and west.

Some sunshine coming through

across England and Wales,

but 11 to 18 degrees.

That could be a shock to the system

if you're out and about,

particularly on exposed coasts

when you factor in the strength of the wind.

It may well not have escaped your attention

that Saturday is the turn of the month, October 1st,

and we start to introduce something slightly fresher

right across the country.

Perhaps the far southeast just clinging on to the milder air,

but it does look like things will start to feel noticeably different.

The jet stream?

Well, that's sitting up into the north and west

over the next few days,

so that will always steer low pressure systems

up into the north-western half of the country.

Further south, we could still remain

under the influence of high pressure

and that could bring in something a bit milder

as we get to the longer six-to-ten-day period.

So some sunshine into the southeast,

and hopefully temperatures will return back

to slightly above average for the early half of October,

but, the further north and west you go,

always the risk of further areas of low pressure,

wetter and windier weather,

and here something just that little bit fresher.
