Whilst we go about our busy daily lives,

0:00:020:00:03

it's difficult to make time for ourselves, let alone anyone else.

0:00:030:00:06

Well, today, all of that is going to change.

0:00:060:00:09

On this street, in this neighbourhood,

0:00:090:00:10

all the people that live here are going to come together

0:00:100:00:13

to celebrate one special person.

0:00:130:00:15

Someone who deserves a big thank you for being on hand 24/7

0:00:150:00:20

to help absolutely everybody in her community.

0:00:200:00:23

So we're holding a street auction to raise money just for her.

0:00:230:00:27

Three, two, one.

0:00:270:00:29

-Good luck.

-Good luck.

0:00:290:00:30

We'll be going the extra mile to pull it off...

0:00:330:00:36

Oh, we've hit the jackpot.

0:00:360:00:38

I don't know where to start, there's so much in here.

0:00:380:00:40

..and showing you how to pinpoint

0:00:400:00:42

the valuable knick-knacks in your home.

0:00:420:00:44

Probably a low grade of silver, I wouldn't say any more than 800.

0:00:440:00:47

-What's the Sterling grade? 925?

-Mm.

0:00:470:00:50

It's cut glass crystal.

0:00:500:00:52

The edges are much sharper, it's much better quality all round.

0:00:520:00:55

But will we do enough to get the £500 we need

0:00:550:00:58

to give her a well-earned break?

0:00:580:01:00

Today, we're tracking down prize collectables

0:01:070:01:09

in a place famed for a spectacular cathedral

0:01:090:01:12

that's the final resting place of royalty

0:01:120:01:15

and the backdrop to blockbusting movies.

0:01:150:01:18

It's the West Country city of Gloucester.

0:01:180:01:20

Now in her mid-50s,

0:01:230:01:24

Vinette Poyser has lived here most of her life,

0:01:240:01:27

and for decades she's worked tirelessly

0:01:270:01:30

to ensure no-one in her community goes without,

0:01:300:01:34

despite being in constant pain herself.

0:01:340:01:38

She's a bright, smiley face.

0:01:380:01:40

She's an absolutely amazing woman.

0:01:400:01:43

I think when Vinette was born, they broke the mould.

0:01:430:01:47

THEY LAUGH

0:01:470:01:49

Vinette was the 11th of 12 children.

0:01:540:01:56

But, at a very early age, her life was turned upside down.

0:01:570:02:01

My mother left when I was...

0:02:030:02:04

I remember my mother left when I was small,

0:02:060:02:09

and then I was left with my father

0:02:090:02:11

and then he couldn't look after me.

0:02:110:02:13

She finally settled with a family in the community,

0:02:150:02:18

but it wasn't the loving home she craved.

0:02:180:02:21

I don't know why... why I had to be picked on.

0:02:210:02:25

I was getting some real beatings, you know.

0:02:250:02:28

I had to do all the chores in the house and everything.

0:02:280:02:30

I had to get up early in the morning,

0:02:300:02:32

I had to get up at four o'clock,

0:02:320:02:33

so I was always on this edge all the time.

0:02:330:02:36

With the help of older siblings,

0:02:360:02:38

Vinette finally left when she was 15.

0:02:380:02:41

I was the happiest because otherwise I would have taken my life.

0:02:410:02:44

She went on to marry in her 20s,

0:02:470:02:50

but, when the relationship broke down,

0:02:500:02:51

she was left to care for her daughters, Sherine and Charlotte.

0:02:510:02:55

I grew up watching her do literally everything.

0:02:560:03:00

Whatever they liked, I just did it just to make them feel happy

0:03:000:03:03

and comfortable.

0:03:030:03:04

They wouldn't be without, not like how I went without.

0:03:040:03:09

It was hard.

0:03:090:03:10

In recent years, Vinette has also faced a daily struggle

0:03:100:03:14

with fibromyalgia, a condition that causes extreme sensitivity to pain.

0:03:140:03:19

My whole body just lights up in pain.

0:03:210:03:24

It stops me from sleeping, I'll toss and turn.

0:03:240:03:27

It's testament to Vinette's extraordinary strength of character

0:03:270:03:31

that she simply refuses to be ground down

0:03:310:03:34

by the many knocks she's had in life.

0:03:340:03:36

All the things that were negative,

0:03:360:03:38

I've learned to turn them into something positive

0:03:380:03:42

because it means so much to me to make somebody happy.

0:03:420:03:46

And, boy, does she make her local community happy.

0:03:480:03:51

Her day job of caring for people in the community

0:03:510:03:55

takes her all over the neighbourhood,

0:03:550:03:57

helping the older residents with chores and appointments.

0:03:570:04:00

On top of that, she set up a swimming club for the over-60s,

0:04:000:04:04

offers respite for those caring for a loved one

0:04:040:04:07

and even finds time to volunteer at a lunch club

0:04:070:04:10

for the elderly and vulnerable.

0:04:100:04:12

They see her as a really nice, friendly face.

0:04:130:04:17

And she's a person that many members

0:04:170:04:19

of the local Afro-Caribbean community

0:04:190:04:21

turn to in times of trouble.

0:04:210:04:24

I feel very privileged to be there for them.

0:04:240:04:28

That will never stop.

0:04:280:04:29

As long as they want me, that will never stop.

0:04:290:04:32

529.

0:04:330:04:35

Vinette's passion for doing good is well overdue proper recognition.

0:04:350:04:39

With her and her husband, Hugo, working as carers,

0:04:390:04:42

it's hard for them to find quality time to spend together,

0:04:420:04:46

so we want to send them off on a much-needed break.

0:04:460:04:49

It'll cost £500, and here's how we're going to make money.

0:04:490:04:53

We've asked all of Vinette's friends, family and neighbours

0:04:540:04:58

to donate any unwanted or unloved items they have

0:04:580:05:00

gathering dust, so we can sell them here at our street party

0:05:000:05:03

and pop-up auction.

0:05:030:05:04

Now, it's a huge task,

0:05:040:05:06

I can't do it by myself,

0:05:060:05:08

so I drafted in the help of a couple of friends

0:05:080:05:11

who know how to turn unwanted clutter into cash.

0:05:110:05:14

Danny Sebastian's a whip-smart dealer...

0:05:170:05:20

I'll stick my hand out at 60 quid.

0:05:200:05:23

..and Izzie Balmer's an auctioneer

0:05:230:05:24

who knows what makes the grade under the gavel.

0:05:240:05:27

Down the centre, selling...

0:05:270:05:28

-GAVEL BANGS

-Sold.

0:05:280:05:30

Wow! What a lovely day!

0:05:370:05:39

It is absolutely glorious.

0:05:390:05:40

-Tell you what, I'm in the mood to rummage today.

-Absolutely.

0:05:400:05:43

-I can't wait.

-On that note...

-No time for talking.

0:05:430:05:45

-See you later.

-Ciao!

0:05:450:05:46

So it's game on for rummage day.

0:05:460:05:49

Danny and Izzie will be fighting it out

0:05:490:05:51

to see who can gather the best donations...

0:05:510:05:54

What have you got for me?

0:05:540:05:55

..and they'll be sharing their top tips

0:05:550:05:57

on how to dig out the undiscovered valuables in your home.

0:05:570:06:00

Danny's first off the starting blocks...

0:06:020:06:04

Straight in, is it?

0:06:040:06:06

-What's his name?

-Mouse.

0:06:060:06:08

-Mouse?

-Mouse.

0:06:080:06:09

..with Vinette's neighbour, Valerie, and her grandson, Daniel.

0:06:110:06:14

Ay up. What have we got?

0:06:140:06:17

China dolls.

0:06:170:06:18

China dolls. You've got how many, hundreds?

0:06:180:06:21

I've had hundreds of them.

0:06:210:06:23

-Did you used to collect them, then?

-Yeah.

-Oh, you used to collect them.

0:06:230:06:26

-I used to have them all the way around here.

-Did you?

0:06:260:06:28

-Dust collectors.

-They are dust collectors, yes.

0:06:280:06:31

I wouldn't write them off just yet.

0:06:310:06:34

To value a doll, look out for the maker's name and mould number

0:06:340:06:37

on the back, neck or feet.

0:06:370:06:39

This one's not an antique, but it'll make us £5 or so.

0:06:410:06:45

But generous Valerie isn't stopping there.

0:06:450:06:48

I found these. If they're any good.

0:06:480:06:51

-Can they go, Valerie?

-Yes.

0:06:510:06:52

These are good quality... cut glass.

0:06:540:06:57

-Cor, they're heavy.

-Yeah, they've got a bit of weight to them.

0:06:570:07:00

This is the kind of collectable that really shines on the pop-up rostrum.

0:07:000:07:04

Best of all, Valerie's throwing in six glasses too.

0:07:040:07:07

I'll be hoping for £30.

0:07:070:07:10

A cupboard upstairs, a dresser upstairs on the landing, 60 years...

0:07:100:07:15

It's 60 years old.

0:07:150:07:17

-Go and have a look.

-Go and have a look.

-On the stairs.

0:07:170:07:21

SHE LAUGHS

0:07:210:07:22

-There.

-Oh, that's...

0:07:250:07:27

-That one there.

-I tell you what - we'll have that.

0:07:270:07:29

It might be a lovely little upcycle job.

0:07:290:07:30

We might rub that down and give it a lick of paint.

0:07:300:07:33

One lot for me to put under the hammer,

0:07:330:07:35

and a lovely little upcycling project.

0:07:350:07:37

We've hit the jackpot.

0:07:370:07:39

Get the weights.

0:07:390:07:40

Izzie has certainly got catching up to do.

0:07:400:07:43

I don't... Cat basket.

0:07:430:07:45

I have only got one cat, so...

0:07:450:07:47

-So you don't need...

-I don't need all of them.

0:07:470:07:49

There's some nice handbags here. Cuddly toy.

0:07:490:07:52

-You've got to always have a cuddly toy.

-Yes.

0:07:520:07:53

Just little bits and pieces, that's all I could find on short notice.

0:07:530:07:56

-No, that's brilliant.

-I have also got some men's weights

0:07:560:07:59

-down in the workshop.

-Perfect. Thank you very, very much.

0:07:590:08:01

It is a good little lot of bric-a-brac

0:08:010:08:03

that'll make us £10 or £15,

0:08:030:08:05

and it puts Izzie back in the running.

0:08:050:08:07

If everyone plays nicely, that is.

0:08:070:08:09

Danny, what are you doing here?

0:08:090:08:11

Hello. We're just...

0:08:110:08:14

Somebody said that you've got a lot of stuff

0:08:140:08:16

to take out from here, so...

0:08:160:08:17

But, Danny, this is my house,

0:08:170:08:19

so you can't go stealing any of these things.

0:08:190:08:21

-Are you sure?

-Certainly.

0:08:210:08:23

I reckon between us we'll manage...

0:08:230:08:25

If it's a case of that, we'll sort something out.

0:08:250:08:27

-You'll be all right?

-Yes.

-OK, I'll...

-Buzz off, Danny.

0:08:270:08:30

Right, I've been told. Au revoir.

0:08:300:08:33

Keep your nose out, Danny.

0:08:330:08:35

Thank you.

0:08:350:08:36

Doing my weights for the day.

0:08:390:08:41

True to her word, Cherry does have weights to donate...

0:08:410:08:44

That's fine, I can put some more on. Pile me up.

0:08:440:08:47

..and there was more than a couple of dusty dumbbells.

0:08:470:08:50

They'll give our fundraising some muscle.

0:08:500:08:53

Good job done.

0:08:530:08:54

Cherry has been so generous.

0:08:550:08:57

She's given us her entire weights collection,

0:08:570:08:59

and there are loads of them.

0:08:590:09:01

They must have cost her an absolute fortune.

0:09:010:09:05

Yep, pumping this much iron doesn't come cheap.

0:09:050:09:08

Brand-new dumbbells go for anything from £10 to £40.

0:09:080:09:13

But what's really taken my fancy is this artist's easel.

0:09:130:09:16

It's got a little bit of age to it. I mean, I would have thought it

0:09:160:09:19

sort of within the last half of the century.

0:09:190:09:21

It's got the paint on it, so it's had some use.

0:09:210:09:23

What's nice as well is it's still all intact.

0:09:230:09:26

Functional and decorative, this ticks all the boxes,

0:09:260:09:28

and it's not just artists that'll be drawn to it.

0:09:280:09:31

These days, plenty of people are using easels

0:09:310:09:34

to display paintings at home.

0:09:340:09:36

This could be for the saleroom.

0:09:360:09:38

Oh, it's nice and cool in here.

0:09:380:09:40

And it looks like Danny's in luck too.

0:09:400:09:42

He's popped in on Vinette's friend, Joan.

0:09:420:09:45

-Is that all right?

-Oh, that's a lovely bit of glass.

0:09:450:09:48

This is a beautiful bit of studio glass.

0:09:480:09:52

Very decorative. A lot of depth.

0:09:520:09:54

There's nice colours - there's blues, there's greens,

0:09:540:09:56

there's greys. Very expensive.

0:09:560:09:58

-Is it?

-Yeah. I would imagine so, yes. It looks like...

0:09:580:10:01

Can I change my mind, then? You can have something else.

0:10:010:10:06

I'll give something else.

0:10:060:10:07

Keep it for auction day, Danny.

0:10:070:10:09

It's lovely, that is.

0:10:090:10:11

This may not be Tiffany or Galle,

0:10:110:10:12

but good-looking studio glass like this is always a crowd pleaser.

0:10:120:10:17

Just goes to show that Vinette's friends

0:10:170:10:20

are ready to dig deep for her.

0:10:200:10:22

Well, I've known Vinette since she was 15 years old.

0:10:220:10:25

Her heart lies within helping people,

0:10:250:10:28

and she'll go out of her way to help anybody.

0:10:280:10:32

Why do you think she does so much? Why does she do these...?

0:10:320:10:35

Sometimes I say to her, you know, I said,

0:10:350:10:37

"Come on, Vinette, you have got to, you have got to..."

0:10:370:10:40

-Slow down.

-"..slow down, because at the end of the day, you know,

0:10:400:10:42

"you've only got one body and one life.

0:10:420:10:44

"You have got to slow down."

0:10:440:10:46

She's gone off and helped somebody, doing something for somebody else.

0:10:460:10:49

Sounds like she's one of a kind.

0:10:490:10:51

I think, when Vinette was born, they broke the mould.

0:10:520:10:56

THEY LAUGH

0:10:560:10:58

Everyone who knows Vinette loves her,

0:10:580:11:00

and when you discover just how much she does for people around here,

0:11:000:11:04

it's not hard to see why.

0:11:040:11:06

After nine years of marriage,

0:11:060:11:08

no-one appreciates her more than her husband

0:11:080:11:11

and fellow care worker, Hugo.

0:11:110:11:13

Part of her nature, she genuinely gets a buzz and pleasure

0:11:130:11:17

from helping other people. She is always going the extra mile.

0:11:170:11:22

Vinette's constantly on hand to help anyone with needs,

0:11:220:11:25

in whatever way she can.

0:11:250:11:27

But she's always had a particular interest

0:11:270:11:29

in looking after older people.

0:11:290:11:31

I grew up being around a lot of elderly people,

0:11:310:11:36

and people in the community.

0:11:360:11:38

Some of them were family, some of them were like family.

0:11:380:11:41

And she would always be helping them.

0:11:420:11:45

And as Vinette's friend, Blanche, explains,

0:11:450:11:47

Vinette's still providing that help through her job.

0:11:470:11:50

She's always in people's homes, helping other people. Yeah.

0:11:500:11:54

Especially those over 50.

0:11:540:11:56

Sometimes she spends hours with them,

0:11:560:11:58

especially if they're on their own.

0:11:580:12:00

She'll sit and chat, she'll cook, she'll wash,

0:12:000:12:02

she'll take them different places, yes.

0:12:020:12:04

But her urge to care for others

0:12:040:12:06

doesn't switch off when she leaves the office.

0:12:060:12:08

She's always on the phone as well, phoning people up,

0:12:080:12:11

so she gives a lot of support that way.

0:12:110:12:14

Probably in the evening,

0:12:140:12:16

she sometimes makes two or three or more phone calls,

0:12:160:12:19

people she knows, just seeing how they are.

0:12:190:12:22

So that kind of thing is important, especially to more elderly people.

0:12:220:12:26

Everyone in her neighbourhood benefits from her great kindness,

0:12:260:12:29

and she's carved a particular niche

0:12:290:12:31

as the go-to person for members of the Afro-Caribbean community.

0:12:310:12:36

I mean, in the community, we have a lot of people who are on their own.

0:12:360:12:40

So she does take that responsibility,

0:12:400:12:42

especially those who may need statutory benefits,

0:12:420:12:45

and is not aware of it.

0:12:450:12:47

Vinette will go in and give the information, because she's well...

0:12:470:12:51

She has a good understanding of what's going on.

0:12:510:12:54

Another cause close to her heart

0:12:540:12:56

is that of black and ethnic minority carers.

0:12:560:12:59

She's part of Ebony Carers, which is a community group

0:12:590:13:03

that kind of provides respite care for carers,

0:13:030:13:07

helping someone when they needed a bath or something, a shower,

0:13:070:13:12

they'd much rather someone from their cultural background,

0:13:120:13:15

because they'll understand their cultural needs more.

0:13:150:13:19

Vinette's tireless devotion to helping anyone who needs it

0:13:190:13:22

would be impressive enough in itself,

0:13:220:13:24

but what makes her particularly heroic

0:13:240:13:27

is that she does all of this whilst suffering almost constant pain

0:13:270:13:31

caused by fibromyalgia.

0:13:310:13:33

Somebody can just nudge me, you know, playfully,

0:13:330:13:36

and it's like, "Ouch!"

0:13:360:13:37

I'll feel it, not just for days,

0:13:370:13:39

maybe a week I'll feel that pain, still.

0:13:390:13:42

They do say, you know,

0:13:420:13:44

people with fibromyalgia can have a certain level of depression.

0:13:440:13:48

It definitely, yeah, gets her down.

0:13:480:13:51

But she just soldiers on.

0:13:510:13:53

And back in Vinette's neighbourhood,

0:13:540:13:56

it's clear the community love her for it.

0:13:560:13:59

-Thank you. Bye-bye.

-Bye-bye.

0:13:590:14:02

Donations are still coming our way.

0:14:020:14:04

Perfect to just pop on the bric-a-brac stall.

0:14:040:14:07

Every little helps.

0:14:070:14:08

Well, mostly Izzie's way, actually.

0:14:080:14:10

We've got loads of really good bits here.

0:14:100:14:13

We've got some toys, which always go down well with the kids.

0:14:130:14:17

We've also got here... very nice Royal Doulton,

0:14:170:14:21

almost like a rose bowl or a potpourri bowl, really.

0:14:210:14:24

It's cut glass crystal,

0:14:240:14:26

which is a much more highly skilled way of cutting your glass,

0:14:260:14:29

and the edges are much sharper, it's much cleaner,

0:14:290:14:31

it's just much better quality all-round.

0:14:310:14:34

Royal Doulton may be more famous for porcelain,

0:14:340:14:37

but its glassware is a perennial favourite.

0:14:370:14:39

This is obviously modern,

0:14:390:14:41

but I still think it could spark enough interest

0:14:410:14:43

to pull in £20 on the pop-up rostrum. Nice find, Izzie.

0:14:430:14:48

No interesting collectables in Danny's sights at the moment,

0:14:480:14:51

but he has bumped into someone special...

0:14:510:14:54

Do you want a hand?

0:14:540:14:55

You look like your hands are full.

0:14:550:14:57

..the person this is all for.

0:14:570:15:00

My name's Danny. What's your name?

0:15:000:15:02

-Vinette.

-Vinette.

0:15:020:15:03

-What do you do?

-I do lots of things.

0:15:030:15:06

-I work for the Independence Trust.

-What's the Independence Trust?

0:15:060:15:08

-Supporting...

-Yeah, yeah, yeah.

-..people with mental health issues.

0:15:080:15:11

And then in the afternoon, I was a community agent,

0:15:110:15:15

community and village agent for Gloucester Rural Community Council.

0:15:150:15:18

Do you help people, if somebody's, like, can't walk or something,

0:15:180:15:21

you push the wheelchair or...?

0:15:210:15:23

We do that as well. If needs be.

0:15:230:15:25

That's under my voluntary cap,

0:15:250:15:28

which is another cap again.

0:15:280:15:30

Sounds like you're getting 28 hours out of 24.

0:15:310:15:34

Yeah, everybody says that to me. "How do you fit it all in?"

0:15:340:15:37

She's an incredible woman,

0:15:370:15:39

and we'll need to work at least as hard as she does

0:15:390:15:42

if we're going to make the £500 we need to send her on holiday.

0:15:420:15:47

-Ay up!

-DOGS BARK

0:15:470:15:48

Their bark really is worse than their bite.

0:15:480:15:51

-How are you?

-I'm all right.

0:15:510:15:52

I have got four nice bar stools.

0:15:520:15:54

Oh, let's have a look. Get them out.

0:15:540:15:57

Let's have a look.

0:15:570:15:58

That's one.

0:15:590:16:00

There's easily £20 here, I think,

0:16:000:16:02

because this kind of retro look is really popular.

0:16:020:16:05

-Now, that's a good start.

-Yeah.

0:16:050:16:08

Oh, that's nice. Oh, they look like...

0:16:110:16:13

-something to do with testing your eyes, probably.

-Yeah, yeah.

0:16:130:16:17

Now, there's a sight for sore eyes.

0:16:180:16:21

-These are quite interesting, aren't they?

-Yeah, yeah.

0:16:210:16:23

Whether that's... for, like, salt and pepper...

0:16:230:16:27

That's a little spoon.

0:16:270:16:28

I just adore the intricate Rococo decoration

0:16:280:16:31

on this lovely little condiment set. Quite a find.

0:16:310:16:34

These two plates look very oriental.

0:16:360:16:39

When I rub my fingers along the top of the plate,

0:16:390:16:42

the paint's raised above the actual ceramic -

0:16:420:16:45

tells me straight away these are hand-painted.

0:16:450:16:49

Very nice. Anything oriental is on fire.

0:16:490:16:52

Beautiful. And in good nick.

0:16:520:16:54

I could certainly see this pair setting the auction alight.

0:16:540:16:57

In fact, all in all, Danny's man with the van has done us proud.

0:16:570:17:01

I tell you what, I fell on my feet here.

0:17:010:17:03

-Ay up.

-Hello, hello.

-Get away, you. Get away.

-What you got here?

0:17:030:17:06

In fact, it's a good job you've come over.

0:17:060:17:08

Come and have a look. What you think of them?

0:17:080:17:10

-Is it silver?

-It's not, it's not hallmarked, is it?

0:17:100:17:13

-White metal's very broad, though, isn't it?

-I can't see any markings.

0:17:130:17:16

So it's probably a low grade of silver, like,

0:17:160:17:17

I wouldn't have thought any more than 800.

0:17:170:17:19

-What is the Sterling grade? 925?

-Mm.

0:17:190:17:22

I was thinking it was continental.

0:17:220:17:24

Yeah. But they're the same. Continental's 800 as well,

0:17:240:17:28

-as a general rule.

-Right. You're educating me here.

0:17:280:17:32

No way! Am I, Danny?

0:17:320:17:33

Just a little bit, just a little bit.

0:17:330:17:35

Never too old to learn new tricks, eh, Danny?

0:17:350:17:37

Hello.

0:17:400:17:41

But now, with just minutes to go before they throw in the towel

0:17:410:17:44

on their rummage day...

0:17:440:17:45

That's what we like.

0:17:450:17:47

..Danny and Izzie need to get busy.

0:17:470:17:50

Oh! Lovely handbag.

0:17:500:17:52

Hello, you.

0:17:520:17:54

Is there somebody home?

0:17:540:17:56

That's quite nice. German pottery.

0:17:570:18:00

Very, very in vogue between the 1950s to the 1970s.

0:18:000:18:04

It's all coming to now, and it's all adding up.

0:18:040:18:07

I don't really know where to start. There's so much in here.

0:18:070:18:10

-Thanks very much.

-Bye.

-Bye-bye.

0:18:100:18:13

On the front here, there is some lovely Swarovski crystals.

0:18:130:18:16

They're really going to take the fancy of somebody.

0:18:160:18:19

We have a mantle clock here.

0:18:190:18:21

Although it doesn't look it, it is a battery-powered clock.

0:18:210:18:24

And it is raised on four scroll feet here,

0:18:240:18:28

emulating an older style.

0:18:280:18:30

Time's up.

0:18:310:18:32

What a great way to end the day.

0:18:320:18:34

All that's left to do is unload the van,

0:18:360:18:38

see who's collected the most,

0:18:380:18:40

and find some items to send over to the saleroom.

0:18:400:18:43

Danny, Danny, Danny. How's your day been?

0:18:440:18:46

Oh, brilliant. Well, you can see. It really has been brilliant.

0:18:460:18:49

But you've not done so bad yourself.

0:18:490:18:51

What's your favourite piece here?

0:18:510:18:53

-Oh, that's a difficult one.

-Is that a clock?

0:18:530:18:56

Yes, but it is only battery, battery clock.

0:18:560:18:58

Oh, but it looks old, doesn't it?

0:18:580:19:00

Yes, I think it's in an old style. I think it has got some age,

0:19:000:19:03

but I don't think it's as old as it's purporting to be.

0:19:030:19:06

Is this some Doulton you've got going on down here?

0:19:060:19:08

The vase, the potpourri vase is Royal Doulton,

0:19:080:19:10

-Royal Doulton Crystal.

-Oh, is it?

-And it comes in its box as well.

0:19:100:19:13

It seems to me like I might have a bit of trouble keeping up with you.

0:19:130:19:17

-No.

-You might have, um...

0:19:170:19:18

Don't get my hopes up, Danny.

0:19:180:19:20

Well, don't get them fully up, but...

0:19:200:19:23

Look at them dolls. All these porcelain dolls.

0:19:230:19:25

-Yeah.

-I've got loads of them.

0:19:250:19:26

We'd be able to make a stall with all porcelain dolls.

0:19:260:19:30

Then, of course, Izzie, there's a bit of quality here, you know.

0:19:300:19:32

-Look at them four chairs.

-You know, I like those.

0:19:320:19:34

-I do like those.

-I should think you do.

0:19:340:19:37

I should think you do. I think I've done quite well, but...

0:19:370:19:40

-You have got some nice pieces. Yes.

-I have, haven't I?

0:19:400:19:43

But you haven't got as much as me.

0:19:430:19:45

No, you... Well, you've got some nice pieces,

0:19:450:19:47

-and you have also got...

-Quantity.

-..quantity to go alongside with it.

0:19:470:19:52

Have you got a star item?

0:19:520:19:53

-I do.

-Let's have a look.

-Shall I walk you to it?

0:19:530:19:56

Well, I don't know, where... Oh, here!

0:19:560:19:58

# Ta-da! #

0:19:580:19:59

OK, so, it's actually the easel.

0:19:590:20:02

Oh, I was going to say, I didn't think it was going to be

0:20:020:20:04

-that bit of art.

-Don't be rude about my art!

0:20:040:20:07

Oh, it's a nice one. It's an old vintage one, isn't it?

0:20:070:20:10

Yes, so I didn't think there was...

0:20:100:20:11

I mean, I think there's some age to it,

0:20:110:20:13

but I didn't think it was, like, 100 years old.

0:20:130:20:15

-No, it's...

-But it's nice.

-Yeah, and it's practical.

0:20:150:20:17

-Exactly.

-Wait till you see my bit of cream.

0:20:170:20:20

Voila.

0:20:200:20:21

Danny, that is really nice!

0:20:220:20:24

Isn't it just?

0:20:240:20:25

I think it's quite a modern piece of just studio art, isn't it?

0:20:250:20:28

-Yes.

-Glass, really.

-I would agree. I don't know this...

0:20:280:20:31

-Maker's mark.

-No. No issue.

-Doesn't have a label.

-No.

0:20:310:20:34

I mean, normally with studio glass,

0:20:340:20:35

you are looking for the signature on the bottom.

0:20:350:20:38

Which... But it's nice, I like it. It's got the look, certainly.

0:20:380:20:40

I've got a feeling that that might do exceptionally well

0:20:400:20:44

-on Paul's pop-up auction.

-Well, I like it and you like it.

0:20:440:20:47

So no doubt, so will a lot more people.

0:20:470:20:50

Great work, Team Rummage.

0:20:500:20:52

So what's going to the saleroom?

0:20:520:20:54

I think, from my side of things, the easel,

0:20:540:20:57

-I'd like to send the easel to the saleroom.

-Good shout.

0:20:570:20:59

And I would like to send the oriental plates

0:20:590:21:02

-and also the continental silver.

-Definitely.

0:21:020:21:04

Nice one. And I spot a couple of pieces ripe for upcycling.

0:21:040:21:08

I was thinking the white corner unit.

0:21:080:21:10

And I would like to send the display unit.

0:21:100:21:13

I like it, but it is quite tired.

0:21:130:21:15

Well, that's the whole reason we're going to be upcycling it, Izzie.

0:21:150:21:18

Well done, you two.

0:21:200:21:21

But who's today's winner?

0:21:210:21:23

So, tell me, Izzie, where do you value the whole lot at, then?

0:21:230:21:27

I'm going to say, I think about 200 minimum.

0:21:270:21:30

Well, do you know what, Izzie? I'm going to put my hand there

0:21:300:21:33

-and I'm going to say, you've won this one.

-I..

0:21:330:21:35

-Danny!

-You've won this one.

0:21:350:21:37

Well, I've come out on top today, Danny, with more stuff,

0:21:370:21:40

but it's down to you and Paul at the street party.

0:21:400:21:42

You can rest assured, come rain or shine, we're going to do our best,

0:21:420:21:46

and I'm sure on the day, our best is going to be good enough.

0:21:460:21:50

Danny and Izzie have done well,

0:21:500:21:52

but is it enough to push us towards our £500 target?

0:21:520:21:56

Hard to say.

0:21:560:21:58

Now it's all down to our auction day.

0:21:580:22:01

Getting this up and running is a massive task,

0:22:060:22:09

and I couldn't possibly do it all by myself.

0:22:090:22:11

Good. Let's get on with it.

0:22:120:22:14

So Danny and Izzie are taking turns to help out on our auction day,

0:22:140:22:18

and today Danny's come onboard.

0:22:180:22:20

Thanks very much for coming. Put that one on.

0:22:200:22:22

That one's ready-made.

0:22:220:22:24

And he's not the only one -

0:22:240:22:25

an impressive number of volunteers

0:22:250:22:27

have made the effort to come out and help too.

0:22:270:22:30

Morning, everyone.

0:22:320:22:34

Our volunteers, thank you so much for turning up.

0:22:340:22:37

Have you all got nametags yet?

0:22:370:22:38

I see you've met Danny. He's been busy already.

0:22:380:22:41

Look, thank you so much, this is so important to us,

0:22:410:22:43

because we cannot do this by ourselves,

0:22:430:22:45

and our target today is to raise as much money as possible.

0:22:450:22:49

Would you like to do teas, coffees and cakes?

0:22:490:22:51

-Yeah.

-Could you do that? Anybody else want to be on teas,

0:22:510:22:54

-coffees and cakes?

-Yeah.

-Brilliant. What's your name?

-Matt.

0:22:540:22:56

Matt, thank you for helping out. You've got your work cut out.

0:22:560:22:59

Riley and Kayleigh, can you go on some bric-a-brac and sell that?

0:22:590:23:03

-Yeah.

-Lots of money is going to be changing hands.

0:23:030:23:05

Are you good with sums?

0:23:050:23:06

-Yes.

-Yeah, OK.

0:23:060:23:08

So three... Take away, let's say, three from 11.

0:23:080:23:11

-Nine.

-Nine. It's not quite, is it?

0:23:110:23:13

-What is it?

-Eight.

0:23:150:23:16

Three from 11 is...

0:23:160:23:17

-Eight.

-Eight, well done. High-five.

0:23:170:23:19

There we are. So, can we do this?

0:23:190:23:21

-ALL:

-Yeah!

-So give us a high-five.

0:23:210:23:23

-ALL:

-Yes!

0:23:230:23:25

Stations, everyone, and good luck.

0:23:250:23:27

While our little army of volunteers get everything shipshape,

0:23:290:23:32

I want to get a closer look at Danny and Izzie's rummage day spoils.

0:23:320:23:37

There's lots of things here. Something for everybody.

0:23:370:23:40

Lots of art. Plenty of art. Lots of bric-a-brac.

0:23:400:23:43

I think we've got one or two prize pieces.

0:23:430:23:45

-Did Izzie find these?

-I found these.

-You found those?

0:23:450:23:48

If we get 20- £30 for that lot, that is a fantastic result.

0:23:480:23:53

-I think you're right.

-That's a good find.

0:23:530:23:55

Ooh, look at that. You obviously visited an optometrist's house.

0:23:550:23:59

Is that what they call them?

0:23:590:24:01

Someone that measures eyesight, checks your eyesight.

0:24:010:24:03

-How about that?

-They don't look bad.

-Who said that?

0:24:030:24:06

We might get a fiver for those.

0:24:080:24:09

Interesting stuff there.

0:24:110:24:12

I'm looking forward to the pop-up auction already.

0:24:120:24:15

Quick, quick!

0:24:170:24:18

I'll just drop that on there.

0:24:190:24:21

We are awesome.

0:24:220:24:24

And now the rostrum's up, the stalls are looking good,

0:24:240:24:28

the entertainers are ready, it's now or never.

0:24:280:24:33

So, let's get this party started

0:24:330:24:36

with a five, four, three, two, one...

0:24:360:24:39

-Good luck.

-Good luck.

0:24:390:24:40

CHEERING

0:24:400:24:42

Grab and pay. Grab and pay.

0:24:520:24:54

This is real community spirit in action.

0:24:550:24:58

Everyone's getting together for one extra-special person.

0:24:580:25:02

-They're yours, sweetheart.

-Thank you.

0:25:020:25:03

Thank you very much.

0:25:030:25:04

It's heart-warming stuff.

0:25:040:25:06

The refreshments are flowing...

0:25:100:25:12

-It's going to get busier than this, you know.

-I know.

0:25:120:25:14

-We may need a hand later.

-You may...

-Yeah. We need volunteers.

0:25:140:25:17

Everyone's having fun.

0:25:170:25:19

Come on, chuck some change in here now, ladies.

0:25:190:25:21

Don't be shy. Come on.

0:25:210:25:23

Do you want to chuck that phone in?

0:25:230:25:24

THEY LAUGH

0:25:240:25:26

And we've hit on an unlikely money-spinner.

0:25:260:25:29

I've just checked this stall out. I didn't see this earlier,

0:25:290:25:32

-but what's the most popular badge?

-That one.

0:25:320:25:34

This is the most popular badge.

0:25:340:25:35

HE LAUGHS

0:25:350:25:37

How much are you charging for a Street Auction badge?

0:25:370:25:39

-25p.

-25p.

-Brilliant!

0:25:390:25:41

There's Danny, look! 25p.

0:25:410:25:44

Now we know where the smart money's at.

0:25:440:25:46

To be honest, the only face I want to see at the moment is Vinette's.

0:25:470:25:52

Worryingly, there's no sign of her.

0:25:520:25:54

But her daughter, Charlotte, and her granddaughter, Jasmine,

0:25:540:25:57

have just arrived.

0:25:570:25:59

So what sort of person is your mum? Tell me a bit about her.

0:25:590:26:03

My mum is very caring, very humble,

0:26:030:26:06

and loves to help everyone.

0:26:060:26:08

Even if she's only just met you,

0:26:080:26:10

she would love to see what she can do to help you out.

0:26:100:26:14

You know, even if that means putting herself to last,

0:26:140:26:17

and that's what she does quite often.

0:26:170:26:19

I know, you know, she was so busy helping someone else out

0:26:190:26:23

this morning, so I'm very excited today.

0:26:230:26:26

Something for her, for once.

0:26:260:26:28

Yeah. Yeah. A big pat on the back. Everybody saying a big thank you.

0:26:280:26:31

When did all this start, all this volunteering and helping people out?

0:26:310:26:34

-How many years ago?

-It started when I was very young.

0:26:340:26:36

You know, sometimes someone might just want someone to speak to,

0:26:360:26:40

the elderly, and she'd make them a cup of tea.

0:26:400:26:43

Sometimes she's helping people to paint, decorate,

0:26:430:26:46

teaching older people computer skills...

0:26:460:26:50

-She's brilliant, isn't she?

-Yeah.

0:26:500:26:51

She literally does everything.

0:26:510:26:53

You've got some big footsteps to follow, haven't you?

0:26:530:26:56

Yeah! How do you think Granny's going to react to this?

0:26:560:26:59

I think she's going to be really surprised.

0:26:590:27:02

-Yeah.

-She's going to look very shocked.

0:27:020:27:05

She might even cry.

0:27:050:27:07

Do you know what? Actually, we might end up crying for her.

0:27:070:27:09

-I bet you will. Yeah.

-Yeah.

0:27:090:27:11

Oh, there's no doubt that Vinette's a really special person.

0:27:110:27:14

I just hope she shows up.

0:27:140:27:16

Look at the condition of that record.

0:27:160:27:18

How much are the records?

0:27:180:27:20

Oh, we'll do them for £2 each, something like that.

0:27:200:27:22

-This one's definitely good - Motorhead.

-Oh, I didn't...

0:27:220:27:24

Ooh, that should have been more than that! What do you mean...?

0:27:240:27:27

Oh, no, it's £2 now.

0:27:270:27:28

We do seem to be pulling in the cash here today,

0:27:280:27:30

but it's impossible to tell whether it'll be enough.

0:27:300:27:33

I tell you what, it's hard work.

0:27:330:27:34

But we're getting there, slowly but surely. We're getting there.

0:27:340:27:38

To maximise our money,

0:27:380:27:40

we sent three of the best rummage day items off to a saleroom.

0:27:400:27:44

Charlotte and her friend, Shehnai, went along to see how they fared.

0:27:460:27:50

The man with the gavel is Gavin Aplin.

0:27:520:27:54

Thank you very much.

0:27:540:27:55

First, Izzie's star buy, the beautiful beech easel.

0:27:570:28:00

Auctioneer's estimate, £20 to £30.

0:28:000:28:03

Who wants to start me at £10 on this? 20, there you go.

0:28:050:28:07

The internet's come in. 22, sir. 22, thank you, sir.

0:28:070:28:10

Where's my four coming from? Four. And six, sir?

0:28:100:28:13

No. At £24 on my screen, show me six if you like.

0:28:130:28:16

At £24. Are we done? With fair warning, sir.

0:28:160:28:20

That's a bargain for the buyer, and not a bad start for us.

0:28:210:28:25

Next up, my favourites, the pair of Chinese plates.

0:28:250:28:29

Again, the estimate's £20 to £30.

0:28:290:28:32

Start me, £30, on these.

0:28:320:28:35

20 and away, then, if you like, please. At £20.

0:28:350:28:37

Come on. They're worth that all day long.

0:28:370:28:40

Bid me 10 then, if you will, £10 asking.

0:28:400:28:43

-Surely £10. £10 on the internet.

-Oh, yes, lovely.

0:28:430:28:45

Where's my £12 coming from, please? Do I see £12 anywhere?

0:28:450:28:48

At 10, then, and selling...

0:28:480:28:50

To the internet, £10.

0:28:510:28:53

Oh, dear. I didn't expect them to fall flat.

0:28:530:28:56

Let's hope our silver condiment set can spice things up.

0:28:560:29:00

Estimate, £30 to £50.

0:29:000:29:02

20, if you like, then, please.

0:29:020:29:04

At 20, I have got, where's my two coming from, please?

0:29:040:29:06

At 20, show me two.

0:29:060:29:08

At 22, 24, come back now if you would, at 24, and six asking.

0:29:080:29:11

At 24, show me six.

0:29:110:29:12

Now eight, please. At 26, looking for eight, anywhere, please.

0:29:120:29:15

At 28, got now, 30.

0:29:150:29:16

Come back. £28 then...

0:29:160:29:18

Lovely.

0:29:210:29:22

Just shy of the estimate,

0:29:230:29:25

but our saleroom total is a respectable £62.

0:29:250:29:28

Takes the pressure off the sticker sales a bit.

0:29:280:29:31

-Thank you very much, sir.

-Come on, keep it coming!

0:29:310:29:34

Thank you very much. Thank you.

0:29:340:29:35

But the best news is that Vinette and husband Hugo are here.

0:29:350:29:39

I finally get to meet her.

0:29:390:29:41

Here she is now, carrying the cakes.

0:29:410:29:44

I hope I don't blow it.

0:29:440:29:46

Cakes! Brilliant.

0:29:460:29:47

Fantastic. What is that one?

0:29:470:29:49

-Chocolat.

-Chocolat.

0:29:490:29:51

-And that?

-That one is carrot, as you can see...

0:29:510:29:53

Can I auction this one off on the rostrum?

0:29:530:29:55

I think I could get maybe £20 or £30.

0:29:550:29:57

Yeah, if that's what you want to do.

0:29:570:29:59

Licking his fingers.

0:29:590:30:01

Can we put that one in the shade over there?

0:30:010:30:03

-That's my rostrum table. And what's your name?

-Vinette.

0:30:030:30:05

-Vinette.

-Yeah.

-Come over here, my darling,

0:30:050:30:07

and put them, put them down here. Shall I carry it for you?

0:30:070:30:10

No, no, no. No, I don't want to drop...

0:30:100:30:11

The cake has arrived.

0:30:110:30:13

-Yay!

-Chocolate cake!

0:30:130:30:15

That's the best, isn't it?

0:30:150:30:17

Not only do you bake cakes and decorate them, then,

0:30:170:30:20

you work here in the community?

0:30:200:30:21

What do you do for your job?

0:30:210:30:23

Well, I'm a community and village agent.

0:30:230:30:25

What does that mean? What do you do?

0:30:250:30:27

-Yes, I...

-A village agent.

0:30:270:30:30

Yes, I am an agent, 007.

0:30:300:30:32

I actually go round, anything in terms of adult social care...

0:30:320:30:36

-Yeah.

-..I'm the first point of contact,

0:30:360:30:38

but sometimes people are just lonely.

0:30:380:30:40

-Yeah.

-But I am not just that, you know, I'm...a volunteer and...

0:30:400:30:46

Cake maker.

0:30:460:30:47

Cake maker and florist, I teach as well in the community.

0:30:470:30:51

The last course that I did was a flower arranging one.

0:30:510:30:54

-I paint properties as well.

-Do you really?

-Yeah.

0:30:540:30:57

-Gosh, you don't stop, then?

-No, I don't.

-Constantly on the go.

0:30:570:31:00

Thursday, I went to Stroud,

0:31:000:31:01

cos a lady phoned me, "Vinette, Vinette, I need help."

0:31:010:31:06

So she had a lot of rubbish outside her house

0:31:060:31:08

and she was supposed to pay 250 quid for this rubbish.

0:31:080:31:11

I said, "You're not paying that. You're not paying that."

0:31:110:31:14

-She was being ripped off, was she?

-Yeah.

0:31:140:31:15

These are older people, vulnerable, on their own.

0:31:150:31:18

I said, "Hang on there, I'm coming."

0:31:180:31:20

I grab all my bits from the shed...

0:31:200:31:22

So you are constantly on the go. Are you shooting off?

0:31:220:31:24

I know you're really, really busy.

0:31:240:31:26

Are you here for the rest of the day?

0:31:260:31:27

-I am here for the rest of the day.

-Oh, thank goodness for that.

0:31:270:31:29

-I'm staying now.

-Brilliant. I'll catch up with you later.

0:31:290:31:32

What a lovely woman.

0:31:320:31:33

Friendly, funny, but most of all, very, very kind and caring.

0:31:330:31:38

I just cant wait to spring our surprise on her.

0:31:380:31:41

I tell you what, I definitely think we got away with that.

0:31:410:31:44

She hasn't got a clue all of this is for her.

0:31:440:31:47

But if we don't make the money we need for Vinette and Hugo's break,

0:31:490:31:53

there will be no surprise to spring.

0:31:530:31:55

Cheers. Thank you.

0:31:550:31:57

So I'm really hoping our upcycled furniture can pump up our profits,

0:31:570:32:01

starting with Izzie's bashed-about corner unit.

0:32:010:32:06

It was quite grubby, to be honest.

0:32:060:32:07

And we've cleaned it up and we've jazzed it up

0:32:070:32:10

with some stickers and...

0:32:100:32:11

I think it would be quite nice in a kid's bedroom.

0:32:110:32:13

-Like a little corner shelving unit?

-Exactly.

0:32:130:32:15

I don't know about you, but I think £3 to £5 for that.

0:32:150:32:18

-I think it's fair.

-Yeah, that will be fair.

0:32:180:32:20

-I mean, if it gets more than that, it's brilliant.

-Yes.

0:32:200:32:22

OK, but that's a good sort of starting point.

0:32:220:32:24

Danny spotted the upcycle potential

0:32:240:32:26

in the sturdy but old-fashioned cabinet.

0:32:260:32:29

-It was real dark, you know.

-Yeah.

-Your traditional brown furniture.

0:32:290:32:33

Whereas now it's got a nice eggshell blue on it.

0:32:330:32:35

It's been painted. We've got some nice wallpaper inside.

0:32:350:32:39

Stripy wallpaper, stripy shirt.

0:32:390:32:41

Was this your choice?

0:32:410:32:42

I like this.

0:32:440:32:46

But because the glass is cracked, it may deter people.

0:32:460:32:49

£8 to £12 on that.

0:32:490:32:51

-Fair price.

-Yeah, it's a fair price.

0:32:510:32:53

It's also three to four times more than we could have hoped to make

0:32:530:32:57

if we'd left them in their original state.

0:32:570:33:00

Nice work, Danny.

0:33:000:33:01

But with little or no time left

0:33:010:33:03

before our stalls shut shop for the day,

0:33:030:33:06

we've got to sell, sell, sell.

0:33:060:33:08

Come on, don't be shy. Anything you want now 50p.

0:33:080:33:11

Be quick, now. Be quick.

0:33:110:33:13

Oh, look at this. People are throwing money at us.

0:33:130:33:16

Thank you. Keep spending, spending, spending.

0:33:180:33:21

Let's clear up these last few plants before they're all gone.

0:33:210:33:24

That's what we like. Look - all the dolls are flying out now. 50p.

0:33:240:33:28

I'm going to have my cabinet back, you painted it white.

0:33:280:33:31

-Do you like it?

-I'm pleased with that.

0:33:310:33:32

I'll get my trolley and go and pick it up now.

0:33:320:33:34

-Oh...

-Pick it back up.

0:33:340:33:36

Ladies and gentlemen, the stalls are now officially closed.

0:33:360:33:41

The team are totting up the pounds and pence...

0:33:410:33:43

..the entertainers are keeping the crowd happy,

0:33:460:33:49

and I think our secret's still safe.

0:33:490:33:52

But I'm feeling nervous.

0:33:520:33:53

I want to grab a last-minute chat with Vinette's husband, Hugo.

0:33:530:33:57

I've heard lots of wonderful stories about her.

0:33:570:33:59

She is possibly the kindest person in the world.

0:33:590:34:01

Yeah, yeah. In my book, she is,

0:34:010:34:03

but in other people's books, definitely, yeah.

0:34:030:34:06

How do you think she's going to react today,

0:34:060:34:09

when she finds out all of this is for her?

0:34:090:34:12

She'll probably get quite emotional.

0:34:130:34:17

I think it'll be a lovely surprise for her,

0:34:170:34:19

cos it's not about, you know, the awards or accolades.

0:34:190:34:22

-No.

-It's nice for her to get some recognition.

0:34:220:34:26

Oh, well, you know, we know,

0:34:260:34:28

after listening to so many stories from people here in this community,

0:34:280:34:33

that we're doing it for the right reasons and the right person.

0:34:330:34:37

But if we haven't made good money today,

0:34:370:34:39

our plans to send Vinette off on holiday will go up in smoke.

0:34:390:34:43

And now it's the nerve-racking moment of truth.

0:34:430:34:45

So we've got a final tally of what was taken at the stalls today.

0:34:460:34:51

What is it, Danny?

0:34:510:34:52

£357.

0:34:520:34:54

-Not bad.

-I don't think that's bad.

0:34:540:34:56

-Not bad at all, really.

-Yes.

0:34:560:34:58

Don't forget, we sent some things off to auction.

0:34:580:35:00

-Oh, yes.

-And we made a grand total of £62.

-Oh, very well done.

0:35:000:35:04

Add that on, that's £419.

0:35:040:35:07

-It's close.

-It's very close.

0:35:070:35:09

-It is close.

-And it's been hard work.

0:35:090:35:10

But I think it's still doable.

0:35:100:35:12

OK, put it there. Let's do it.

0:35:120:35:15

To reach our £500 goal,

0:35:150:35:17

I've got to rattle up at least £81 with the gavel.

0:35:170:35:21

I think I can do it. I hope I can.

0:35:210:35:23

Ladies and gentlemen, thank you so much for digging deep.

0:35:250:35:29

We have a target to raise, and we haven't reached it yet,

0:35:290:35:32

so I'm now relying on you to get your hand in your pocket once more.

0:35:320:35:36

If they don't, we're in all kinds of trouble.

0:35:360:35:39

Here goes with Danny's star find, the beautiful studio glass.

0:35:390:35:42

What's it worth, Danny?

0:35:420:35:43

It has got to be worth £20, £25 of anybody's money.

0:35:430:35:46

Right, you've heard it from the man.

0:35:460:35:47

Who's going to start me off with a bid of £5?

0:35:470:35:50

Five. Thank you. Five, ten.

0:35:500:35:51

15? 20.

0:35:510:35:53

Can I take 20? I'm selling at 20.

0:35:530:35:55

-Fair warning...

-Hold on. 25.

-25. Thank you.

0:35:550:35:58

£25.

0:35:580:35:59

-Still cheap.

0:36:010:36:03

Well done. Very well done.

0:36:030:36:05

It's an encouraging start.

0:36:050:36:06

I'm hoping Izzie's Royal Doulton bowl can match it.

0:36:060:36:09

Surely it's worth five. Thank you. I'm looking for six now.

0:36:090:36:12

Six anywhere? Six, and I'm selling at five.

0:36:120:36:15

This is worth far more than that!

0:36:150:36:16

Come on, Gloucester!

0:36:160:36:18

Late legs. £6.

0:36:180:36:19

0:36:370:36:40

Sold, £20.

0:36:400:36:42

Brilliant.

0:36:420:36:44

A slow start, but a sparkling finish.

0:36:440:36:46

And, with the decanter and glasses doing well...

0:36:460:36:49

And I am selling at 15.

0:36:490:36:50

It's going once, it's going twice...

0:36:500:36:53

Sold, £15. Thank you.

0:36:530:36:56

..the weights pushing us that little bit further.

0:36:560:36:59

And I'm selling at £8. Going once, twice...

0:36:590:37:01

Sold to the gentleman at the back. Thank you.

0:37:010:37:03

0:37:030:37:07

And I will sell at five.

0:37:070:37:08

Fair warning. Sold, £5. Thank you very much, sir.

0:37:080:37:12

..we're steadily edging closer to our target.

0:37:120:37:15

The revamped corner unit's next.

0:37:150:37:17

I'm hoping for another £5 here.

0:37:170:37:19

Do I see three anywhere?

0:37:190:37:21

I'm, looking for three and I am selling at two.

0:37:210:37:23

Oh, thank you, late legs.

0:37:230:37:25

£3. It's against you, madam.

0:37:250:37:26

Four. Five, thank you. Strong bidding. Six.

Seven, seven, seven?

0:37:290:37:30

One more. Eight, eight.

0:37:300:37:32

Make it a tenner, I'll put the hammer down.

0:37:320:37:34

Thank you. £10.

0:37:340:37:36

It's going once... Strong bidding, Strong bidding.

0:37:360:37:39

Are you still in, sir? He's out.

0:37:390:37:41

He's saying, "No more." £11. And I'm selling to you, madam.

0:37:410:37:44

-It's sold.

-Well done.

-Yes.

0:37:440:37:46

So we've made a total of £16 on our upcycling.

0:37:460:37:50

Good fun to do and a great return

0:37:500:37:51

on a few pounds' worth of paint and sticky vinyl.

0:37:510:37:55

I'm smiling now.

0:37:550:37:56

Look at that. That's got to be made by a professional,

0:37:560:37:59

and I bet it tastes fantastic.

0:37:590:38:01

Vinette's monster carrot cake, easily worth £10.

0:38:010:38:05

£5, come on.

0:38:050:38:07

Five. Five, straight in.

0:38:070:38:08

0:38:080:38:09

Seven. Thank you. One more bid.

0:38:090:38:11

Eight. Eight. I'll put the hammer down at ten.

0:38:110:38:13

Come on, surely. Yeah, thank you.

0:38:130:38:16

Is that a bid? 11.

0:38:160:38:17

12. 13.

0:38:170:38:19

Madam, 15. Can I put the hammer down for you at £15?

0:38:190:38:22

£15, sold.

0:38:220:38:24

Yeah. A big round of applause.

0:38:240:38:26

A tasty price for Vinette's baking efforts.

0:38:260:38:29

Here's hoping our final lot will be the cherry on the top.

0:38:290:38:33

Four bar stools.

0:38:330:38:35

I just love these. But will anyone else love them enough to pay £20?

0:38:350:38:39

Any further advances on £10?

0:38:390:38:41

12. Thank you. 12.

0:38:410:38:42

14. 15.

0:38:420:38:44

20. Can I take 20?

0:38:440:38:45

That's a fiver each. £25.

0:38:450:38:47

30. Thank you.

0:38:470:38:49

£30 is with me.

0:38:490:38:50

Can I take 31?

0:38:500:38:51

32? Shrug of the head. A roll of the eyes.

0:38:510:38:55

Still cheap, these. There's four of them, don't forget.

0:38:550:38:57

I knew they had pulling power. Great stuff!

0:38:570:39:00

40, now. £40.

0:39:000:39:03

Fantastic bid. That's a strong bid.

0:39:030:39:05

Fair warning, I'm selling at 40.

0:39:050:39:06

Once, twice...

0:39:060:39:08

Sold. £40.

0:39:080:39:09

An absolute thriller to finish with.

0:39:110:39:13

Time to do our sums and see if we've made the grade.

0:39:130:39:17

Fingers crossed.

0:39:170:39:18

Ladies and gentlemen, thank you so much for being so patient.

0:39:180:39:22

We've had a fantastic street party,

0:39:220:39:24

you've spent your money here at the auction.

0:39:240:39:26

I can now add those totals together.

0:39:260:39:28

We had a target of £500 we had to raise today.

0:39:280:39:33

We didn't get that target.

0:39:330:39:36

We made £637!

0:39:360:39:38

We smashed it!

0:39:380:39:40

That's what I call people power!

0:39:400:39:42

People coming together, and together we can move mountains.

0:39:420:39:47

That's what it's all about.

0:39:470:39:48

A big, big thank you.

0:39:480:39:50

I can now reveal what this is all about.

0:39:500:39:53

We've had to get someone here today on false pretences.

0:39:530:39:56

They haven't got a clue - all of this is for them.

0:39:560:40:00

Many of you know this person.

0:40:000:40:03

She's a big, big part of this community.

0:40:030:40:06

She's there to help every single one of you.

0:40:060:40:08

She goes above and beyond the call of duty.

0:40:080:40:13

She doesn't want any kind of rewards.

0:40:130:40:15

She does this, she volunteers because she loves what she does.

0:40:150:40:20

Despite her own setbacks, she ploughs on through.

0:40:200:40:26

This person is not far from me, and her name...

0:40:260:40:30

..is Vinette Poyser.

0:40:330:40:34

CHEERING

0:40:340:40:36

My darling, all of this is for you!

0:40:360:40:38

How do you feel?

0:40:450:40:47

Vinette is not as loud as I am, but I just want to say,

0:40:470:40:50

everybody has turned up to say a massive, great big thank you.

0:40:500:40:54

Vinette Poyser, you are a real champion.

0:40:540:40:56

Charlotte, read this out.

0:40:570:40:59

Dear Vinette,

0:40:590:41:01

your friends and family would like to say thank you

0:41:010:41:03

for all you've done, all you do.

0:41:030:41:06

The money raised will go towards a break for you and Hugo,

0:41:060:41:11

and because you are interested in film-making,

0:41:110:41:14

we have arranged for a VIP tour around BBC Bristol.

0:41:140:41:18

CHEERING How about that?

0:41:180:41:21

Three cheers for Vinette!

0:41:230:41:24

-Hip-hip! ALL:

-Hooray!

0:41:240:41:26

-Hip-hip!

-Hooray!

-Hip-hip!

-Hooray!

0:41:260:41:29

You deserve this, you know that.

0:41:310:41:33

-You are a real champion.

-Thank you.

0:41:330:41:35

I'm speechless.

0:41:350:41:36

I am humbled.

0:41:380:41:40

And I'm also honoured to receive this surprise.

0:41:400:41:45

I don't know what to say, cos I just naturally do what I do.

0:41:450:41:49

I don't look for anything.

0:41:490:41:50

You know, it's not about fortune, you know, I just do from my heart,

0:41:500:41:55

I give from my heart. I give my time, my support,

0:41:550:41:58

whatever that may look like.

0:41:580:42:00

So thank you so much.

0:42:000:42:02

Well done. Well done.

0:42:020:42:04

She doesn't do it for, you know, recognition,

0:42:080:42:11

but it is nice to get that, you know, something like this.

0:42:110:42:14

-That look then said it all, didn't it?

-I think it did, yeah.

0:42:140:42:17

It's helping others that she does,

0:42:170:42:20

that makes her unique, so we're very pleased to have her here.

0:42:200:42:24

Nobody better deserving than what she had today.

0:42:240:42:27

She really deserves what she's received, yes, yeah.

0:42:270:42:29

She deserves the world, and I hope that I can give her that one day.

0:42:310:42:36

But, um...just to know that people are really, like,

0:42:360:42:41

do care about her...

0:42:410:42:42

..it's everything. Yeah.

0:42:430:42:45

Oh, gosh.

0:42:460:42:48

That is what it's all about -

0:42:500:42:51

Vinette surrounded by all of her family, friends and neighbours.

0:42:510:42:55

They've all turned up to say one massive, great big thank you

0:42:550:42:58

to a real hero here in the community.

0:42:580:43:01

What a way to end today's show. I hope you've enjoyed it.

0:43:010:43:05

Keep on watching, because next time we could be in your neighbourhood

0:43:050:43:08

and this auction could be for you.

0:43:080:43:09

Goodbye.

0:43:090:43:10

Vinette enjoyed her tour of the television studios,

0:43:120:43:15

and is now planning a restful break with Hugo.
