hip problem. We will also hear about a change in cricket licensing and

:00:00.:00:00.

tae kwon do in Korea. That is coming up at 6:30pm. Now it is time for the

:00:00.:00:00.

Film Review. Hello and welcome to

:00:07.:00:20.

the Film Review on BBC News. To take us through this week's

:00:21.:00:23.

cinema releases is Mark Kermode. A mixed bag this week. We have a

:00:24.:00:38.

portrait of a grumpy old man. We have Despicable Me three, the

:00:39.:00:47.

minions are back. And Risk. Lots to talk about but my most important

:00:48.:00:51.

role this week is to get the pronunciation right.

:00:52.:01:02.

This is a film that will make you feel and his sympathy for all the

:01:03.:01:10.

people in your life. The tag line is, you will love him as much a fee

:01:11.:01:16.

hates you. He wants to end his life but it keeps being distracted by his

:01:17.:01:21.

neighbours to keep breaking the housing association rules, of which

:01:22.:01:25.

he is a stickler for keeping two. When a new family moves and he is

:01:26.:01:31.

furious about their presence, their annoyance, then being there.

:01:32.:01:42.

However, his wife says that behind that he starts to break down his

:01:43.:01:46.

resistance and she gets him to teach her to drive. Here's a clip. Hello.

:01:47.:02:45.

A fantastic look of exasperation on his face. He has a brilliant face.

:02:46.:02:54.

Did you ever see the 100-year-old man who climbed out the window and

:02:55.:03:00.

disappeared? No. As shackled with that film because of the humour, and

:03:01.:03:07.

I never fell in with it. It looks like that kind of film but then we

:03:08.:03:13.

start to learn about his life story, young romance, childhood trauma, his

:03:14.:03:17.

relationship with his wife which is idyllic but faces tragedy, and you

:03:18.:03:24.

start to understand how he got to where he is and it is seat and

:03:25.:03:27.

sentimental. There is an ongoing argument about whether bobbles or

:03:28.:03:35.

saps are the ideal cast. House leaders. Entire friendships follow

:03:36.:03:38.

tour that these arguments but you start to see as a three-dimensional

:03:39.:03:47.

character. He has a strong moral compass and has been made better.

:03:48.:03:53.

Inside that is the person he used to be. I went in not thinking I would

:03:54.:04:00.

go for it, but I laughed and cried. Like any movie that makes me cry

:04:01.:04:05.

because it means that you believe in the characters. I really liked it.

:04:06.:04:10.

Despite the tag line, you will love him as much as he hates you, it was

:04:11.:04:18.

easy to fall in with. A third of any film really. Does the world need

:04:19.:04:24.

this? Whether we need Despicable Me three is another thing. I find them

:04:25.:04:32.

funny. They are running out of plots and they had to bring a character in

:04:33.:04:36.

to make it work, but you see the minions before the titles and one

:04:37.:04:40.

pulls out a far gone and it made me laugh. I giggled like an idiot for

:04:41.:04:46.

the rest of the film because I think that the minions are funny. The

:04:47.:04:54.

verbal staff is funny and they are perfect slapstick creations, they

:04:55.:04:57.

remind me of what was funny about old silent cinema. There is a new

:04:58.:05:09.

super villain but for me I just find the minions funny. I laughed all the

:05:10.:05:17.

way through. Even though I knew that I shouldn't, I did. You are allowed

:05:18.:05:25.

to do that. I am so interested in Risk. Her last film about Edward

:05:26.:05:33.

Snowden was brilliant. She was in the hotel room when the revelations

:05:34.:05:39.

were made. He came across as shy in that documentary. This is one about

:05:40.:05:46.

Julian Assange, who does not come across as shy. The film is

:05:47.:05:53.

conflicted about its subject. It began as a film about some under

:05:54.:05:58.

film makers seem to admire, but that changes. The portrait we get is some

:05:59.:06:05.

under this last is a stick, controlling, self obsessed, and has

:06:06.:06:10.

no self-awareness. Here is a clip in which Julian Assange and his

:06:11.:06:13.

associate are trying to call Hillary Clinton on the phone. This is an

:06:14.:06:24.

emergency. You are the emergency line and it will take a while? OK.

:06:25.:06:30.

Do you want to do that now and I will wait. He would like to speak to

:06:31.:06:42.

her about that. OK, let me start by giving you my phone number.

:06:43.:06:55.

Details including an unredacted cables such to go on the Internet. I

:06:56.:07:01.

do not understand why you do not see the urgency in this. Who is he?

:07:02.:07:13.

Hello, this is Julian Assange. Read do not have a problem, you have a

:07:14.:07:18.

problem. That is the tone of the film. The story is well now and,

:07:19.:07:28.

what is strange about this film is that it is very fragmented, it is

:07:29.:07:35.

not as good as her previous film. You can tell that it is a film in

:07:36.:07:42.

which the film-maker's relationship change during it. When the film was

:07:43.:07:47.

first seen about a year ago, the film-makers said the Julian Assange

:07:48.:07:52.

demanded changes and got lawyers involved, which he did not have the

:07:53.:07:56.

right to do. She has made the film that she wanted. There is an irony

:07:57.:08:03.

in someone who is releasing information wanting to control it.

:08:04.:08:09.

We have seen this before another documentaries and in the drama, the

:08:10.:08:18.

Fifth Estate. You get an inside view, but it is fragmented and

:08:19.:08:22.

frustrated because even when they are talking about the election you

:08:23.:08:26.

want the film to be more focused. It feels like it is falling apart.

:08:27.:08:31.

Julian Assange has said that the film will do his reputation no good

:08:32.:08:38.

and I think that he is right. Which some people may take as a

:08:39.:08:42.

recommendation in itself. It is interesting, also that it was made

:08:43.:08:47.

by a woman. What is your best out this week? Okja. It is basically as

:08:48.:09:03.

story about a girl in Korea who is moved to America to keep Aptech

:09:04.:09:10.

safety issue raised. It is a film about where food comes from and how

:09:11.:09:14.

capitalism hides behind the caring face. The film uses brilliant CGI to

:09:15.:09:22.

bring a giant pink to life, it is so terrible and strange and I liked it.

:09:23.:09:29.

-- a giant pink. It is very cinematic. It is thought promoting,

:09:30.:09:35.

it is not vegetarian propaganda but it will give you food for thought. I

:09:36.:09:40.

like that phrase, vegetarian propaganda. What about DVDs? He'll

:09:41.:09:55.

The Living was a small release. It is a story about a young man he was

:09:56.:10:02.

involved in an accident and his heart is used for a transplant to

:10:03.:10:07.

save someone else, to heal the living. It is a film about the

:10:08.:10:12.

miracle of medicine but it is more than that, it is about life and

:10:13.:10:17.

death, it is about transcendence, it takes poetic wonders and two strange

:10:18.:10:22.

areas. It is very underplayed and does not feel like it is

:10:23.:10:26.

manipulating your emotions that I was overwhelmed by it. Everyone I

:10:27.:10:32.

know who has seen it has loved that. I am looking forward to that. Thank

:10:33.:10:38.

you very much. We will see you next week.
