Hello and welcome to the One Show. Tonight, we are live from a very | :00:34. | :00:43.
chilly Reading. Very shortly, Matt and Team Rickshaw will be arriving. | :00:43. | :00:50.
It is day seven of the challenge, and they have cycled 372.57 miles, | :00:50. | :00:55.
incredibly. Tomorrow is the last day, so hopefully in 24 hours they | :00:55. | :01:00.
will be crossing the finishing line. Brilliant! Even though Lauren has | :01:00. | :01:05.
to cycle the last leg of the journey this evening, Pudsey | :01:05. | :01:10.
arrived in style. He came down the river on a boat earlier and was | :01:10. | :01:16.
greeted by the Reading Sea cadets, which was very nice. Of course, we | :01:17. | :01:21.
are pleased to have Pudsey here. But I have a sneaky feeling he has | :01:21. | :01:26.
only turned up to get a kiss from our lovely guest. Is that right? I | :01:26. | :01:30.
thought so. Shall we welcome her, the very beautiful Katherine | :01:30. | :01:40.
:01:40. | :01:42. | ||
Jenkins. Hello. Lovely to see you. How are you? I am good. How are | :01:42. | :01:48.
you? Good. Will you blow him a kiss? It is the only reason he has | :01:48. | :01:54.
come. He has a happy boy. Earlier in the week, Monday or Tuesday, the | :01:54. | :02:00.
rickshaw went past your home town, Neath. My mum told me. She was | :02:00. | :02:04.
aware it was coming through. should have come out and put money | :02:04. | :02:10.
in the bucket. They are inspirational, these teenagers. | :02:10. | :02:15.
They are absolutely amazing. I have been so inspired by them, pushing | :02:15. | :02:18.
themselves in such an incredible way, with everything they have | :02:18. | :02:22.
already been through. Having to have all of the physio on top of | :02:22. | :02:27.
all of this as well, it is amazing. I have been watching with a tear in | :02:27. | :02:31.
my eye. We know what Team Rickshaw are doing but there are thousands | :02:31. | :02:35.
of you all across the country doing your bit for Children In Need, | :02:35. | :02:40.
whether it be sitting in a bath of baked beans, or a cake stall, lots | :02:40. | :02:43.
of different stuff. We have a very special girl here tonight, | :02:44. | :02:48.
Philomena. What strikes you about her is the beautiful flowing locks. | :02:48. | :02:54.
Tonight, she is going to shave them all off in aid of Children In Need. | :02:54. | :03:03.
Are you sure? Definitely. Yes. Michael Douglas is going to do the | :03:03. | :03:11.
deed. Michael, go for it. The first step. I can't watch! The first step | :03:11. | :03:16.
is with some scissors. I will just cut across. It is thicker than you | :03:16. | :03:22.
think. It is such a shame. She has thick hair. It will grow back. | :03:22. | :03:30.
Don't worry about it. There you go, Philomena. Say goodbye. Goodbye, | :03:30. | :03:38.
hair. How do you feel? I feel all right. You look lovely light that, | :03:38. | :03:43.
if it is any consolation. We will see the finished result later. Here | :03:43. | :03:52.
is how day seven went for our Team Rickshaw. Day seven saw the riders | :03:52. | :03:55.
leave Salisbury in the hope of travelling 51 miles to Reading. | :03:55. | :04:02.
Jamila took the early morning shift. Everybody is excited that London is | :04:02. | :04:05.
well within sight. The thing years, you don't want to take your eye off | :04:05. | :04:10.
the ball because this is where things could go wrong. Only one | :04:10. | :04:14.
hour in, and we were in trouble. A week of cycling had we can to the | :04:14. | :04:19.
legs, and Jamila needed help. This is bordering on cruelty, but it is | :04:19. | :04:27.
a good technique for Jamila. Come on, come on. Do me a favour? Can | :04:27. | :04:37.
:04:37. | :04:40. | ||
you read that sign. London, three miles. London is within reach. That | :04:40. | :04:46.
was three miles to the motorway. How long have you been in that | :04:46. | :04:53.
traffic jam? 45 minutes. And she gave a donation. Thank you. We have | :04:53. | :04:56.
another one here. As the day unfolded, we got more | :04:56. | :05:00.
donations on route, and we were given a warm welcome to reach town | :05:00. | :05:10.
:05:10. | :05:12. | ||
That is a lovely sound. After a day of rest, Kieran was back on the | :05:12. | :05:18.
rickshaw. You look a lot brighter this morning. I am feeling a lot | :05:18. | :05:23.
better. It was soon clear that we were all very happy to see him | :05:23. | :05:33.
:05:33. | :05:34. | ||
return to the saddle. You need to complete what you're trying to | :05:34. | :05:44.
:05:44. | :05:49. | ||
achieve. How do you keep the tears away? It has given me some more | :05:49. | :05:55.
energy to continue. It is always really difficult in my mind, to | :05:55. | :06:01.
know how hard to push him. Fatigue is setting in, door of the riders | :06:01. | :06:06.
have their own physical ability. And to see their grit and | :06:06. | :06:11.
determination, and to see them apply it to the pedals, and to this | :06:11. | :06:15.
distance, it is incredibly inspiring. I am just delighted with | :06:15. | :06:19.
how well they have got on with each other. For example, Lauren, she has | :06:19. | :06:24.
really surprised me. You think, why shouldn't she be able to get on to | :06:24. | :06:28.
bike and turn her legs and apply that determination from her | :06:28. | :06:32.
everyday life to this. For Jack, this has reaffirmed his | :06:32. | :06:36.
determination. He has learned the formula of him putting in an | :06:36. | :06:41.
enormous amount of effort, and it being incredibly worthwhile. Every | :06:41. | :06:46.
day, I can't wait for Kieran. I am incredibly surprised by what he has | :06:46. | :06:50.
done physically. -- Ciaran. When he had his day off, he could not wait | :06:50. | :06:54.
to come up to me and tell me how sorry he was that he felt he had | :06:54. | :07:04.
:07:04. | :07:06. | ||
not done his thing on that day. You watch him, and he is kind of... I | :07:06. | :07:11.
think it is harder when you have got his dad alongside. You can only | :07:11. | :07:19.
make comparisons as a father and think how proud he must be. And you | :07:19. | :07:24.
think, for him, how much harder this is. His Co ordination, his | :07:24. | :07:30.
tiredness. And yet he is battling against that. He is like, I am | :07:30. | :07:35.
going to get on and do it. He never says, can I get off? He only says, | :07:35. | :07:45.
:07:45. | :07:46. | ||
can I do more miles? Lovely Matt. It has been hard for him because he | :07:46. | :07:50.
has spent so much time with the youngsters. We were glad to get | :07:50. | :07:54.
Ciaran back. I am joined by Lauren's mum. You have been with us | :07:54. | :08:00.
for the whole thing. How has it been from your perspective? It has | :08:00. | :08:04.
been great. I have witnessed first hand how the team has gelled | :08:04. | :08:08.
together, got to know one another, and the friendship has grown over | :08:08. | :08:14.
the last week. Has Lauren exceeded all of your expectations? You | :08:14. | :08:18.
probably knew she would be able to do some of it, but she has done | :08:18. | :08:23.
incredibly well. We were expecting maybe a couple of miles that she | :08:23. | :08:28.
would manage out of the week. To do 2.5 on the first day, and 13.5 on | :08:28. | :08:33.
Saturday, and about eight or nine on most days thereafter, it has | :08:33. | :08:38.
been mind-blowing. She is loving every minute. How would you feel | :08:38. | :08:42.
when you see her riding into Reading this evening? Holding back | :08:42. | :08:47.
the tears. I have some tissues in my pocket. You will not have to | :08:47. | :08:51.
wait long because Matt and Lauren are due around the corner any | :08:51. | :09:01.
:09:01. | :09:05. | ||
minute. Here they come. There you go. Stay there. Put the | :09:05. | :09:15.
:09:15. | :09:33. | ||
Ready? Are you UN clipped? 1, two, three. And off she comes. Brilliant. | :09:33. | :09:40.
Argue OK? I am very well, thank you. You know the hospital where you | :09:40. | :09:45.
were treated? In that ward, they have a television showing this | :09:45. | :09:51.
programme tonight. No way. Do you have a message for all of the | :09:51. | :10:01.
:10:01. | :10:03. | ||
People award watching? -- all of the people on the ward. Hello, Ward | :10:03. | :10:13.
:10:13. | :10:18. | ||
seven. I hope everybody is doing all right. Please keep donating. | :10:19. | :10:28.
And get well soon, everyone. Very good. Matt, how is the feeling in | :10:28. | :10:35.
Team Rickshaw? There are some sore legs. Jamila, you did a mammoth job | :10:35. | :10:39.
one Somerville's this morning but Lauren brought the team home | :10:39. | :10:43.
beautifully. She has just powered on through the whole time on the | :10:43. | :10:52.
bike. Can you believe we started this thing last Friday. This is the | :10:52. | :10:58.
last night. It is a bit of mixed emotions. We have worked so hard | :10:58. | :11:02.
throughout the week. But it is going to be ashamed to not see | :11:02. | :11:06.
everyone again. Listen up, because it is the last day we do not want | :11:06. | :11:12.
to be late, so we have two alarm clocks for the first possible two. | :11:12. | :11:18.
James, you are one of them. And you, Jack. Always competitive. The | :11:18. | :11:22.
question is, who will be starting? We will have a game of paper, | :11:22. | :11:32.
:11:32. | :11:33. | ||
scissors, stone. This is for the first rider tomorrow. There you go. | :11:33. | :11:39.
Here we go, then. Let's get it done. And the thing is, Darren has had | :11:39. | :11:42.
his bail compers gated because everybody thought it was making too | :11:42. | :11:51.
much noise. -- he had his bell confiscated. So here you go. To | :11:51. | :11:56.
show your support, you don't have to get on a bike. You only have to | :11:56. | :12:03.
follow these instructions. Can you still talk? Let's tell everybody | :12:03. | :12:09.
how they can give us their money. If you would like to donate 5, all | :12:09. | :12:19.
:12:19. | :12:38. | ||
you have to do his text the word He loves that bell. It is all we | :12:38. | :12:43.
have heard all day. When I first got it for him, he put it on his | :12:43. | :12:51.
white cane and he was ringing at the whole time. We will get a total | :12:51. | :12:56.
later on. Katherine, you are very much getting into the spirit of | :12:56. | :13:01.
Christmas with your new album, This Is Christmas. I have actually been | :13:02. | :13:08.
making it since June. It has been Christmas all year for me. I was | :13:08. | :13:11.
reading you on Twitter and you said you were in Malta recording your | :13:11. | :13:17.
Christmas album. Did you make the studio look like Christmas? I had | :13:17. | :13:22.
to. It was intensely hot. When you are a classical singer, you like to | :13:22. | :13:26.
sing later in the day. So I would do a bit of sunbathing in the | :13:26. | :13:32.
morning. The life of Katherine Jenkins! And then I would go to | :13:32. | :13:36.
Santa's grotto. I had a Christmas tree, fairy lights, candles, the | :13:36. | :13:42.
whole lot. How else would I get into the spirit? Did you have a | :13:42. | :13:48.
glass of sherry before you started? I did not. This is you, looking and | :13:48. | :13:56.
sounding as if you are in the North Pole. | :13:56. | :14:06.
:14:06. | :14:10. | ||
# Away in a manger no crib for a bed. # | :14:10. | :14:20.
:14:20. | :14:34. | ||
You are taking that on tour leading up to Christmas. Next week, I go to | :14:34. | :14:39.
America to go on tour. And I am finishing the year with a big UK | :14:39. | :14:42.
tour, and I'm looking forward to that because I have been away so | :14:42. | :14:49.
much. It is lovely to be home and finish the year back. Christmas in | :14:49. | :14:58.
Neath? Absolutely. We have a date in Las Vegas, so I am looking | :14:58. | :15:02.
forward to that. But I will be back in London at the Royal Albert Hall, | :15:02. | :15:09.
in Belfast, Dublin and across the UK. It is going to be lovely. | :15:09. | :15:15.
of Team Rickshaw, Jamila, who is over there, she is an aspiring | :15:15. | :15:19.
singer-songwriter. She loves to dance and act. We thought it would | :15:19. | :15:25.
be nice if you could have a chat, because you are actually in panto. | :15:25. | :15:33.
Man in Jack and the Beanstalk. you enjoying it? Years. Just | :15:33. | :15:37.
remember that everybody in the audience wants you to do well. | :15:37. | :15:41.
Enjoy the opportunity and remember it is supposed to be good fun as | :15:41. | :15:45.
well. Don't let the nerds get the better of you. Go out and enjoy it | :15:45. | :15:49.
and you will shine your best. But do not let nerves get the better of | :15:49. | :15:56.
you. Give us some idea of what code seven years, how it works and how | :15:56. | :16:04.
it has helped you. It is an organisation for young people who | :16:04. | :16:07.
are interested in music and media. They can go and explore their | :16:07. | :16:11.
talents and it keeps them off the streets. That is somewhere they can | :16:11. | :16:19.
feel safe but the creative. long have you been involved. | :16:19. | :16:25.
started when I was 15. Cycling for now and then back to panto. I have | :16:25. | :16:35.
been trying to get you to sing but There we are. | :16:35. | :16:40.
We are moving on. Katherine's album, this This Is | :16:40. | :16:43.
Christmas, is out on the 25th of December. | :16:44. | :16:51.
The tour starts on the 9th. Jam I willa, when does your panto start? | :16:51. | :16:57.
It starts on the 11th of December. Now, the families now what it is | :16:57. | :17:06.
like to have fair dogs around them 24 /7. Now Jon Culshaw is | :17:06. | :17:10.
encouraging people to take their pets to work, all in aid of | :17:10. | :17:13.
Children In Need. This is one of the many call | :17:13. | :17:17.
centres taking calls and donations from the public for Children In | :17:17. | :17:21.
Need tomorrow night, but for one day only, there are a few extra | :17:21. | :17:29.
members of staff. This Take Your Dog To Work day is | :17:29. | :17:34.
in aid of Children In Need, dogs in a call centre. What could possibly | :17:34. | :17:41.
go wrong? # Who let the dogs out. # The staff | :17:41. | :17:44.
are rehearsing for the big night. Thank you very much for the | :17:44. | :17:48.
donation. As if they don't have enough to | :17:48. | :17:52.
distract them, I will test out the telephone technique. | :17:52. | :17:58.
Well, they seem at home in there, we thought we would would give them | :17:58. | :18:03.
a little surprise. Me and my best friend, Sam here. They have no idea, | :18:03. | :18:10.
but before I make my presence known, time for a few phone calls. I'm | :18:10. | :18:18.
calling from the Aintree Racecourse, I understand it is the national | :18:18. | :18:25.
Bring Your Dog to Work day today? Yes it is. | :18:25. | :18:34.
Over on the half side, he is gone! It is busy here. | :18:34. | :18:41.
Oh, Jon has taken the bone off me. Who would have thought that me, | :18:41. | :18:47.
John Birb op would be coming here to congratulate you for taking the | :18:47. | :18:52.
calls. That is why it is nice to see you, to see you, nice. You are | :18:52. | :18:58.
still my favourite! So on the big Children In Need night, how do you | :18:58. | :19:04.
describe the buzz? Electric. Absolutely electric. The staff here | :19:04. | :19:10.
come in, and everybody goes away saying it is the best night they | :19:10. | :19:14.
have ever had. Not content with handling all of | :19:14. | :19:18.
the calls on Children In Need, the staff are off to do some phrasing | :19:18. | :19:24.
on their own. Now it is time to take the dogs for a trip into Derry, | :19:24. | :19:28.
to see if they can inspire the locals with a bit of money all for | :19:28. | :19:37.
Children In Need. Here we go! Puds si has even turned up and so have - | :19:37. | :19:41.
- Pudsey has turned up, so have lots of local kids to show their | :19:41. | :19:45.
support. The bucket is getting heavy. This is what we like. By the | :19:45. | :19:51.
end of that we raised about 150, all for Children In Need! What a | :19:51. | :19:59.
great idea! It is. Now, earlier on we met the very | :19:59. | :20:03.
brave Philomena Dineen, who I think is absolutely nuts. You are about | :20:03. | :20:08.
to shave all your hair off in aid of a very good cause, which is | :20:08. | :20:12.
Children In Need, of course. You have a great bob, you could leave | :20:12. | :20:17.
it there, but are we going to persist and go for it? I think we | :20:17. | :20:20.
should go on. It is not the perfect weather for | :20:20. | :20:26.
it? I am freezing. It will shock me. Let's go ahead. | :20:26. | :20:33.
Now it will grow back at 0 .3 5 millimetres a month! Straight down | :20:33. | :20:41.
the middle! Shall I stop? Katherine?! I'm so amazed by your | :20:41. | :20:45.
bravery, but she has such a beautiful face, you will carry it | :20:45. | :20:51.
off. You will look gorgeous. That is lovely, leave that on the | :20:51. | :20:56.
side. Just to leave it like that? It | :20:56. | :21:00.
looks good! Have you ever had this done before? No! I would never do | :21:00. | :21:04.
this, ever. Your best friend Georgia is here | :21:04. | :21:09.
tonight. She has beautiful hair as well. What was your reaction when | :21:09. | :21:15.
fill Meena said she would do this? We were all so shocked but we knew | :21:15. | :21:20.
that Philomena Dineen was the best to do it. She is very brave. | :21:20. | :21:26.
You do look lovely. You do! George, I think you are | :21:26. | :21:32.
going to be brushing your hair in front of her! That is looking great. | :21:32. | :21:42.
Shall we look at the before and after... What do you think? Wow! | :21:42. | :21:48.
like it! Listen, I honestly think you should show that off it looks | :21:48. | :21:55.
great, but if you get cold, love, I have had this hat on for the last | :21:55. | :21:59.
two nights, here you go. You are very brave to do it, but | :21:59. | :22:04.
how much money have you raised as a result of tonight? I was looking | :22:04. | :22:11.
for about 200, but I have raised about 150 when I last looked. | :22:11. | :22:16.
And your hair is going to a special cause? It is going to a charity | :22:16. | :22:23.
called the Little Princess' Trust. It will be made for a wig for a | :22:23. | :22:26.
little girl who has lost their hair through cancer. | :22:26. | :22:31.
That is lovely. In the past seven days we have gotten to now Team GB | :22:31. | :22:36.
tem so well. -- Team Rickshaw so well. Before | :22:36. | :22:43.
they push into London, let's remind ourselves of their families. | :22:43. | :22:51.
This is me, darn, with my sister, mum and dad and not to forget my | :22:51. | :22:56.
dog. I have an eye condition. | :22:56. | :23:03.
My mum has eye problems as well. We are living with people with worse | :23:03. | :23:06.
sight, so I need to be their eyes as well. | :23:06. | :23:12.
I went up the hill. I got back on my bike after I got up the hill as | :23:12. | :23:18.
I was so tired. Hi, I'm Lauren. This picture is | :23:18. | :23:25.
called Alone. It is an emotion I was feeling because I had no | :23:25. | :23:33.
friends. Everybody distanced themselves after my accident. | :23:33. | :23:40.
From not having friends to people shouting my name! It really does | :23:40. | :23:43.
something to you. You don't have words to describe | :23:44. | :23:53.
:23:54. | :23:54. | ||
how much it means. Hi, I'm jam I willa, welcome to my | :23:54. | :24:00.
house. -- jam Ilya, welcome to my house. When I go to pie house I | :24:00. | :24:07.
feel self-conscious. You see a gang and you don't want to be near there, | :24:07. | :24:13.
or near them. It wants you to stay at home and you feel isolated and | :24:13. | :24:17.
alone. I'm Jack, I am 16 years old. I live | :24:17. | :24:23.
in Romford with my dad and sister. When I was born I was diagnosed | :24:23. | :24:29.
with a genetic syndrome. At 18 months old both kidneys were | :24:29. | :24:35.
removed. I then had a kidney transplant. My om pigs was to | :24:36. | :24:39.
become a firefighter. Having a donated organ does not make a | :24:39. | :24:46.
difference to what you can do. name is James. Since I was four, | :24:46. | :24:56.
five, I became a carer. I help my sister who is autistic and my mum | :24:56. | :25:01.
has a mental illness. I want to promote young carers. I | :25:01. | :25:08.
think it would be a good achievement to complete this. | :25:08. | :25:15.
My name is Ciaran Fitzgerald. Just because I have cerebral palsy | :25:15. | :25:24.
doesn't mean that I can't push myself as hard as someone who is | :25:24. | :25:30.
able-bodied. I feel really proud of myself. So | :25:30. | :25:40.
:25:40. | :25:48. | ||
proud of what I have achieved. APPLAUSE | :25:48. | :25:52.
That brings back wonderful memories of the last seven days. | :25:52. | :25:55.
It is unbelievable it is the last day tomorrow. | :25:55. | :26:01.
I know. Somebody that we could have been joined with along the route is | :26:01. | :26:04.
Adam Phillips, he knows Jack very well. Give us an idea of how you | :26:05. | :26:09.
know Jack well, and how you could have been joining us on the route | :26:09. | :26:13.
but did not. Well the charity that Jack | :26:13. | :26:16.
represents we both used to run for them. | :26:16. | :26:19.
This is all about kidney transplants? It is. | :26:19. | :26:26.
The weekend of the fitness trials I got a call for my second kidney | :26:26. | :26:29.
transplant. What was that call like? What goes | :26:29. | :26:33.
through your mind? It is nerve- wracking until you get into the | :26:33. | :26:40.
hospital. You see the forms, you understand what you are going to go | :26:40. | :26:44.
through. Then it is the mental state to get yourself back into | :26:44. | :26:49.
recovery. How long did you have a kidney | :26:49. | :26:55.
transplant? It was eight weeks ago on Monday. You are looking | :26:55. | :27:00.
phenomenal. You look so healthy now. How do you feel? A lot better than | :27:00. | :27:05.
six months ago. Have you been following in the progress of Jack? | :27:05. | :27:11.
I have. Looking at him with admiration, in fact. He is | :27:11. | :27:15.
incredibly competitive! You are telling me! You will know if you | :27:15. | :27:21.
run with him. We can't stop him. He is first off in the morning, so we | :27:21. | :27:26.
should get a good start. 38 miles. Let's bring the rest of Team | :27:26. | :27:28.
Rickshaw. Yes, let's tell you what is ahead | :27:28. | :27:36.
of us tomorrow. It is 38 miles. We are leaving here, heading down to | :27:36. | :27:42.
Windsor. Some nice donations there, perhaps. Then off to Hounslow and | :27:42. | :27:45.
hopefully arriving at Television Centre at 7.00pm for the start of | :27:45. | :27:50.
Children In Need night. So, how are you feeling for | :27:50. | :27:54.
tomorrow, the last day? Feeling excited. | :27:54. | :28:02.
Are you a little gutted it will be over? I don't want it to end. | :28:02. | :28:06.
We will miss you, Darren. We will have a reunion. | :28:06. | :28:15.
So, shall we get the total of day number seven? Yes! Good luck! Right, | :28:16. | :28:21.
thanks, Pudsey. I have it here. You will love this. Stand by... The | :28:21. | :28:31.
:28:31. | :28:35. | ||
current total on night number seven is... That does not count the | :28:35. | :28:39.
thousands of pounds we are collecting in the buckets as we go. | :28:39. | :28:47.
Thank you very much so -- you are helping us so much. | :28:47. | :28:51. |
