MUSIC: Drumbeat to "We Will Rock You" by Queen. Welcome to The One | :00:20. | :00:40.
Show! No more singing! Pretty good, though. Paul was excellent. More | :00:41. | :00:46.
from Paul Youngs later. Let's welcome a more legendary drummer, | :00:47. | :00:50.
Roger Taylor! APPLAUSE | :00:51. | :01:03.
Good evening, sir. I have not seen you for ages. | :01:04. | :01:14.
Welcome to the show. It is nice to be here. There are no drums in We | :01:15. | :01:21.
Will Rock You, are there? It is ironic. It is actually feet and | :01:22. | :01:27.
hands, and there is only one instrument on the whole record. That | :01:28. | :01:32.
is Brian's guitar. Apart from that, it is feet. You leaders, Roger. | :01:33. | :01:52.
Roger, this morning you on the radio, and I asked you about the | :01:53. | :01:59.
Queen movie, and I asked you who you had in mind. You said you did not | :02:00. | :02:03.
know. Our researcher told us you know who it is. You did not tell me! | :02:04. | :02:11.
I am not supposed to say. Go on, tell us. We are hoping for a guy | :02:12. | :02:26.
with the initials B W. OK, get your thinking caps on. More from Roger | :02:27. | :02:31.
later on. We have a film about little owls. They are treating | :02:32. | :02:41.
selfies. She has gone crazy! You get one rock star and she loses it! A | :02:42. | :02:55.
selfie is as follows... Thank you for confirming that. Those little | :02:56. | :03:05.
owls did have some help as did Chris's dog, with her selfie. We | :03:06. | :03:12.
want you to help your pets take a selfie. E-mail them to the usual | :03:13. | :03:16.
address. We will show you the best ones later is -- later. One of the | :03:17. | :03:23.
big news stories this week with the new appeal by The Met police into | :03:24. | :03:25.
the disappearance of Madeleine McCann six years ago. As please | :03:26. | :03:29.
through the many responses in the hope of a newly, we went to speak to | :03:30. | :03:34.
the families of other missing people for whom the trail has gone cold. | :03:35. | :03:39.
Every day and every night, I am constantly looking. I thought he | :03:40. | :03:50.
might come up here and sleep here. There are little benches here. There | :03:51. | :03:53.
are some toilets here. He is hardly going to be here now, is he? He | :03:54. | :04:02.
obviously does not want to be found. I am Hannah and my dad has been | :04:03. | :04:08.
missing since October ten. It is now Day eight and tomorrow will be day | :04:09. | :04:12.
nine. We think you might be local but then we think he might be in | :04:13. | :04:17.
Hampshire or even in Scotland. Anywhere. I come here and shout his | :04:18. | :04:21.
name. There is nothing. Every time I see someone, I think maybe they had | :04:22. | :04:37.
seen him. I'm sorry, I just saw that man there and every time I see | :04:38. | :04:43.
someone... We expected him to turn up there then it got darker and | :04:44. | :04:53.
colder and we worried. He felt a failure as a husband and a father. | :04:54. | :04:59.
We want to know he is said and OK. I know he would not leave me. He would | :05:00. | :05:03.
not leave me, he has just lost the plot. He went missing at Christmas. | :05:04. | :05:12.
I bought him a dressing down and I have unwrapped it and I wear it. I | :05:13. | :05:26.
don't buy gifts, I leave them on the tree, wrapped up, at Christmas. My | :05:27. | :05:34.
son Alex went missing. Five years and nine weeks. It was his birthday | :05:35. | :05:38.
coming up and he would have been 17 years old. He did not come home. For | :05:39. | :05:45.
the first three years, I would always ask for Alex. Then it went | :05:46. | :05:48.
quiet and I thought people had forgotten and nobody cared any more. | :05:49. | :05:53.
Old news, it is dead and buried. You want people to start asking me | :05:54. | :05:57.
again. My dreams were so real that I was hiding Alex. It was frightening | :05:58. | :06:02.
because it was so real, I could feel him. When I woke up, it was a | :06:03. | :06:11.
nightmare. His room is now my office. His clothes are still here. | :06:12. | :06:16.
It was horrible coming in here. It had to be done. I would love to | :06:17. | :06:21.
think that Alex is still out there and living his life, and he is | :06:22. | :06:27.
happy. I keep on thinking that he is in Los Angeles with his wife and | :06:28. | :06:34.
children. Why do you think that? I do not know. | :06:35. | :06:52.
Of course, let's hope there is a lead for the families soon. They are | :06:53. | :06:57.
just two of the 250,000 people that go missing in the UK each year. Most | :06:58. | :07:04.
of them do come home, of course. If you have any information about any | :07:05. | :07:08.
missing people, please contact the helpline. The details are on the | :07:09. | :07:13.
website. Roger Taylor is a! APPLAUSE | :07:14. | :07:24.
. Here in years. But here he is. Roger wrote all of these following | :07:25. | :07:25.
songs. APPLAUSE | :07:26. | :08:07.
You wrote all those songs. Yes, I did. When you wrote with | :08:08. | :08:15.
Freddie, what would be the ideal environment for you to write? Paint | :08:16. | :08:20.
a picture for us. We would snatch ideas out of the air. One person | :08:21. | :08:24.
would have an idea and then we would grab it and throw it around and work | :08:25. | :08:30.
on it. Where would you do it? In a studio. We never got there until 4pm | :08:31. | :08:37.
in the afternoon! That was early! Was there a prime time, a witching | :08:38. | :08:43.
hour? Yes, a couple of hours after dinner, towards midnight. I love | :08:44. | :08:51.
that so much. Bearing that in mind, Roger, can you tell me what is | :08:52. | :08:56.
happening in this picture? Is this a writing session? No, it was halfway | :08:57. | :09:03.
through a show in Mexico City, and it was a harrowing, dangerous show | :09:04. | :09:09.
with a lot of people who were crazy and had had a lot to drink. How | :09:10. | :09:17.
crazy did it get in Queen? It was fairly mad at times. There was the | :09:18. | :09:32.
boredom of being on the road. Lots of viewers would have seen Queen | :09:33. | :09:36.
live over the years, but which Giggs stands out for you? I suppose live | :09:37. | :09:42.
aid was a good show. That was a great day all round. The weather, | :09:43. | :09:47.
the whole thing, the music was doing something great in the world, | :09:48. | :09:50.
actually making a positive difference somewhere. The last gig | :09:51. | :10:02.
ever was at Knebworth, and is I remember that being good. The Queen | :10:03. | :10:07.
Extravaganza, which is this fantastic tribute band, you scoured | :10:08. | :10:12.
the Earth online looking for a lead vocalist. The question to the view | :10:13. | :10:18.
is is, how good can an online audition big question mark watch | :10:19. | :10:45.
this. Did anybody else come close? It was a foregone conclusion, | :10:46. | :10:51.
really. That guy is called Marc Martel, and that was his audition | :10:52. | :10:55.
that he sent in. He got 8.5 million hits on YouTube. He is just | :10:56. | :11:01.
extraordinary. It is uncanny, you close your eyes and you think | :11:02. | :11:04.
Freddie is singing in the room. He was in the band! We have a great | :11:05. | :11:12.
band, actually. I just wanted them to play our music brilliantly, not | :11:13. | :11:19.
to pretend to look like ass. A brand-new band? Brand-new. -- to | :11:20. | :11:28.
look like us. We have a bit of footage of them in action. Look at | :11:29. | :11:53.
this by the way. APPLAUSE | :11:54. | :12:04.
. Everybody will be wondering whether you can buy tickets to see | :12:05. | :12:08.
that? Absolutely. They are about to do a 15 day tour of England and | :12:09. | :12:16.
Scotland. They start in Bournemouth on the 27th, I think. You teased us | :12:17. | :12:22.
with what Queen got up to on the road, but did your rock 'n' roll | :12:23. | :12:28.
days ever stretch as far as this? This is the legendary Iceland party | :12:29. | :12:36.
platter. Oh, yes! It looks like a party to me! It's a brand-new | :12:37. | :12:41.
documentary about the frozen food retailer. Meet Malcolm Walker, chief | :12:42. | :12:50.
executive of Iceland supermarkets. How would you describe yourself as a | :12:51. | :12:58.
businessman? Cowboy! Smile, please. It is a place where the boss takes | :12:59. | :13:04.
his staff on luxury holidays. I always believe that having fun is a | :13:05. | :13:07.
big part of why we are so successful. There has been a | :13:08. | :13:15.
complaint about a ready meal. Obviously, not having enough chicken | :13:16. | :13:20.
in there is an issue so we will take a look at that. There has been a | :13:21. | :13:25.
Trading Standards complaint about there not being any chicken in | :13:26. | :13:29.
there. We can see there is chicken. Should we compare it to this one? | :13:30. | :13:34.
There is a lot of chicken there. These people are passionate enough | :13:35. | :13:38.
to take the time and write to us about something. Malcolm will be | :13:39. | :13:47.
surprising six stores up and down the country with a briefcase of | :13:48. | :13:57.
?10,000 in cash. He will be travelling from west to east, south | :13:58. | :14:00.
to north, to cover all of his empire. First stop, south Wales. | :14:01. | :14:09.
Port Talbot. The Port Talbot team will share the | :14:10. | :14:29.
money, taking home between ?200 and ?700 each. Despite the buoyant | :14:30. | :14:37.
Christmas results, and unexpected announcement is about to change the | :14:38. | :14:40.
New Year for Malcolm. Responsibility for finding out how horse DNA was | :14:41. | :14:46.
found in their beefburgers has fallen to this technical manager. It | :14:47. | :14:52.
was a very big shock for me, because horse is not included as an | :14:53. | :14:56.
ingredient in any of our burgers. I took a call from the supplier, who | :14:57. | :15:01.
said, the test results had illustrated that it was an | :15:02. | :15:04.
ingredient supplier of theirs from a Dutch firm which has been proven to | :15:05. | :15:09.
be the source of the equine DNA. I am not saying we used force, but I | :15:10. | :15:13.
am saying we used that supplier. There is a difference. Joining us | :15:14. | :15:17.
now, the star of the show, the man who brought us the King Prawn | :15:18. | :15:25.
Rings, Malcolm Walker, the chief executive of Iceland. We were | :15:26. | :15:34.
gripped by this we saw the first of these, we were almost late for | :15:35. | :15:39.
rehearsals, and yes, we do rehearse, by the way. But you were not happy | :15:40. | :15:43.
with the first edit of the show, why not? I was hoping it would encourage | :15:44. | :15:53.
you to leave Waitrose and shop with us, which was the idea of it. That | :15:54. | :16:00.
is not the BBC's idea of when they were making the film, they said, if | :16:01. | :16:05.
it is 50% good, and 50% bad, that is how we will have to show it. I said, | :16:06. | :16:10.
OK, but if it is 90% good, you have to show that as well, and not | :16:11. | :16:15.
Auchtermuchty or it. It was really bizarre that after the first hour, | :16:16. | :16:20.
the horse meat scandal broke, in the middle of making this | :16:21. | :16:25.
documentary... That was not planned. You could not make it up. | :16:26. | :16:31.
Is it true that you described the whole horse meat scandal as a storm | :16:32. | :16:34.
in a teacup, and do you believe that? Yes, it was a joke, the whole | :16:35. | :16:40.
thing. Apparently, horse meat has been in the UK food chain for 15 | :16:41. | :16:44.
years, and the Government has known about it for two years, but nobody | :16:45. | :16:48.
told us. The supermarket gets the blame, because we are visible on the | :16:49. | :16:52.
high street. They said, why did you not test for it? We said, why would | :16:53. | :16:56.
we, if nobody thought it might be there in the first place. And no | :16:57. | :17:01.
horse meat was ever found in an Iceland product. You floated on the | :17:02. | :17:07.
stock market in the 1980s for hundreds of millions of pounds, you | :17:08. | :17:12.
bought it back for ?1.5 billion, having started it off many years ago | :17:13. | :17:18.
for just a few quid. What do you see on the horizon? Well, we have just | :17:19. | :17:22.
one online, which is going better than I ever imagined, and we are now | :17:23. | :17:26.
going overseas, opening stores in the Czech Republic, supplying frozen | :17:27. | :17:31.
food to South Africa, and, would you believe, Saudi Arabia. Next big | :17:32. | :17:39.
product, last Christmas, we have the King Prawn Rings, so what is this | :17:40. | :17:42.
Christmas? You can never tell. You better had, it is just around the | :17:43. | :17:47.
corner. You said the next product, well, we have got three bird | :17:48. | :17:53.
roasts, variations on that, venison rings... You love your rings, don't | :17:54. | :18:01.
you? Iceland Foods: Life In The Freezer Cabinet starts on Monday, on | :18:02. | :18:06.
BBC Two, at nine o'clock, and it is gripping. It is a good job our | :18:07. | :18:11.
resident food snob, Jay Rayner, is not here. He is just cunning to | :18:12. | :18:18.
terms with his recent assignment to examine a popular meat substitute. I | :18:19. | :18:26.
have to be honest, I am not a big fan of vegetarian meat free | :18:27. | :18:30.
proteins, I never have been. Whenever I expressed this opinion, I | :18:31. | :18:34.
get met with howls of derision, accusing me of being a bigoted | :18:35. | :18:38.
carnival. So here I am at this factory in North Yorkshire, the | :18:39. | :18:42.
biggest supplier of vegetarian meat substitutes in the UK. What exactly | :18:43. | :18:49.
is quorn? It is a member of the fungus family. It started off from | :18:50. | :18:55.
vegetarians, and their need for protein, but now, more of our | :18:56. | :18:59.
consumers are actually non-vegetarians. Why would people | :19:00. | :19:02.
want to eat a product which is not meat but tastes like it? You can eat | :19:03. | :19:10.
meals you are familiar with, but take out the saturated fats and the | :19:11. | :19:16.
meat, making it easier, as opposed to eating a completely different | :19:17. | :19:21.
dish. This year, the quorn factory will produce more than 20,000 tonnes | :19:22. | :19:28.
of the stuff. It is a process of fermentation, similar to producing | :19:29. | :19:31.
beer. It is a bit like making your home-brew. We put a raw Quorn in, | :19:32. | :19:36.
which grows for about five days. We have got the liquid out, and won the | :19:37. | :19:42.
raw Quorn, which has got the same texture as bread dough, it has got | :19:43. | :19:48.
that feel to it. This mess does not look appetising, but after it is | :19:49. | :19:51.
cooked with egg whites, yeast and flavourings, it is on to the | :19:52. | :20:00.
process. Freezing is essential for creating the meat texture and | :20:01. | :20:03.
character that we want. You might be converting me. Time to put it to the | :20:04. | :20:10.
test. At this pub in west London, the chef is making me three versions | :20:11. | :20:14.
of his trademark chilli con carne, one with beef, one with pork and one | :20:15. | :20:19.
with Quorn. But how many customers will be able to spot which is which? | :20:20. | :20:29.
This one, it just tasted generally strange, compared with the other | :20:30. | :20:33.
two. I am going for this one as the substitute. Are you really? Yes. I | :20:34. | :20:43.
am genuinely baffled, but if I had to guess, I would say this one is | :20:44. | :20:49.
the substitute. You think that one? You think that is a meat | :20:50. | :20:53.
substitute? This is the substitute. But it there. Our little test has | :20:54. | :20:59.
not been exhaustive, but almost three quarters of the people we | :21:00. | :21:03.
asked today could not identify the meat substitute. But there is no | :21:04. | :21:08.
doubt that the quality of vegetarian meat substitutes really has | :21:09. | :21:12.
improved. If it is a choice between the cheap processed meat and these | :21:13. | :21:15.
vegetarian alternatives, I am really not surprised that some meat eaters | :21:16. | :21:20.
are going for this stuff. You have had it, and you cannot tell the | :21:21. | :21:25.
difference? I honestly think it is lovely, spaghetti Bolognese, chilli | :21:26. | :21:30.
con carne. Thumbs up. You are about to release your fifth solo album, | :21:31. | :21:34.
and it is called Fun On Earth, which is a pretty big promise. Yes, but I | :21:35. | :21:39.
had one an awful long time ago called Fun In Space, so I thought I | :21:40. | :21:45.
would come back down to earth. It has got all sorts of stuff on it, it | :21:46. | :21:51.
is eclectic, it is a labour of love. It took five years to write, | :21:52. | :21:58.
didn't it? About that, yes. How does that affect the narrative of the | :21:59. | :22:02.
album, if it takes so long? I guess that is part of the reason why there | :22:03. | :22:06.
is so much different stuff on it, you go through different moods, your | :22:07. | :22:12.
taste changes a little bit. You get a good summer, and what happens | :22:13. | :22:16.
next? Sunny Day comes out! Right on cue, for heaven 's sake! | :22:17. | :22:29.
# So, for your disguise... # So beautiful... | :22:30. | :22:36.
It is an absolutely lovely song, so nice, but some people, and if you do | :22:37. | :22:43.
close your eyes, it does sound quite similar to Rod Stewart, doesn't it? | :22:44. | :22:47.
I guess so, certainly not intentional. I have known him for | :22:48. | :22:51.
many years. I have never tried to sound like him. I guess it is a | :22:52. | :22:58.
certain sound in the voice. Probably due to all sorts of... Often, sons | :22:59. | :23:04.
seek approval from their dad, so are you seeking approval from your son | :23:05. | :23:11.
on this occasion? Yes, I bounce stuff off from my children, one of | :23:12. | :23:16.
whom is here. I am really interested in what they think. Do they think, | :23:17. | :23:20.
this poor old sod, still doing it? But my daughter is over there, and I | :23:21. | :23:26.
know that she has got her own particular taste. There she is. Now, | :23:27. | :23:33.
if you are sick of seeing Ri Ri's, Cara D's and all of those other | :23:34. | :23:36.
celebrities, with their selfies, or if you have no idea what a selfie | :23:37. | :23:39.
is, have a watch of this next film. In this day and age, if celebrities | :23:40. | :23:50.
are not being photographed by others, they are busy taking | :23:51. | :23:52.
pictures of themselves and posting them online. Which got me thinking, | :23:53. | :23:59.
could a real tweeter snap a photo of himself and then post it on the | :24:00. | :24:04.
internet which are not an easy task. But at this old airfield in Essex, | :24:05. | :24:12.
there is a family of little owls who might have what it takes. Russell is | :24:13. | :24:18.
a car mechanic, who works here. He is also a keen wildlife | :24:19. | :24:22.
photographer. An aerodrome housing high-performance cars is not the | :24:23. | :24:26.
first place I would expect to find a wildlife enthusiast. We have got the | :24:27. | :24:31.
habitat, untouched for 90 years, each is why we have got the owls. | :24:32. | :24:38.
And particularly, you like owls? I do, I can spend up to 40 hours a | :24:39. | :24:43.
week doing it, photographing them. This was our first view -- their | :24:44. | :24:50.
first view of the outside world, as it were. This was shortly | :24:51. | :24:54.
afterwards, as they all popped outside together. That is the beauty | :24:55. | :24:58.
of the little owl, they are really great characters. The young little | :24:59. | :25:03.
owls will be leaving to find their own territory very soon, but before | :25:04. | :25:07.
they do, we are setting them a photographic challenge. Russell's | :25:08. | :25:12.
camera will be attached to a mechanism so that they can | :25:13. | :25:14.
photograph themselves. It will begin acted to the internet by 3G, and | :25:15. | :25:19.
automatic software will enable it all to happen. Here we go. | :25:20. | :25:26.
automatic software will enable it all to happen. Here we It is working | :25:27. | :25:30.
perfectly. I get the feeling the little owl will be slightly more | :25:31. | :25:33.
attractive. All we need now is some little owls. It is seven in the | :25:34. | :25:37.
morning, and we are encouraging them to come onto the pressure pad with | :25:38. | :25:42.
some tasty worms, but they cannot just feed, they must actually stand | :25:43. | :25:46.
on the pad to get the shot. Which way do you think they will approach | :25:47. | :25:51.
from? Some of them fly back to the original nest site, on the roof. | :25:52. | :25:55.
Others come straight from the trees, on top of that rock, flying directly | :25:56. | :26:01.
down from there. It is not long before our camera attracts some | :26:02. | :26:06.
attention. Our first visitor is not a little owl, it is a pheasant, with | :26:07. | :26:11.
a knife or the worms. While that is around, the little owls will stay | :26:12. | :26:15.
away. Luckily, he does not stay too long, and we soon get our first bit | :26:16. | :26:22.
of owl activity. There is one, just coming in. There you go. At that. | :26:23. | :26:30.
Here he comes. Oh, Russell, this is amazing. Right on top of the camera. | :26:31. | :26:38.
How funny is that? That is brilliant. Look at this. Amazing! | :26:39. | :26:46.
This is the way little owls check for change, and investigate their | :26:47. | :26:52.
surroundings. -- check for danger. Luckily, this one decides we are OK | :26:53. | :26:58.
and starts getting braver. Come on, go on the pressure plate. That | :26:59. | :27:08.
way... If the little owl is going to tweak a self-portrait, it has got to | :27:09. | :27:13.
jump on the pressure pad, but it is giving us the runaround. Honestly, | :27:14. | :27:16.
Russell, it is teasing us. Not this time. Come on. We do not want to put | :27:17. | :27:27.
him off. He is now within inches here he goes. Yes! I heard the | :27:28. | :27:35.
camera shoot. Yes, it has done it, it has got it. They are such | :27:36. | :27:43.
beautiful birds. With the owls due to leave any day, this could be our | :27:44. | :27:47.
last chance, so have they done it? Added the moment of truth. I have to | :27:48. | :27:57.
say, that is a fine portrait. He is such a little poser, and you wanted | :27:58. | :28:00.
a close-up. We brought the technology to post it online. It is | :28:01. | :28:05.
a fabulous photograph to remember him by. That is a job done. Thank | :28:06. | :28:11.
you very much. Earlier, we asked for your own pet selfies. This one has a | :28:12. | :28:21.
message - it says, he cannot get the hang of it. And Sophie and Alan in | :28:22. | :28:27.
Southampton have sent this one in. This one is from Kim, and her dog. | :28:28. | :28:35.
Joey, sticking his tongue out at the selfie. And Brownie, 26 years old, | :28:36. | :28:45.
and loves posing. We thought we might have guessed the actor in the | :28:46. | :28:50.
new Queen film. Should we say it? You gave us the initials. Is it Ben | :28:51. | :29:04.
Wishaw? Well, we hope so. Roger's Albom, Fun On Earth, will be | :29:05. | :29:12.
released on November 11. And The Queen Extravaganza tour starts in | :29:13. | :29:23.
December. To see us out, our Young Drummer of the Year, Paul Youngs. It | :29:24. | :29:24.
is! | :29:25. | :29:30. |
