But what if it's not your mum saying it to you? It's the other way round.

Mum's sexy outfits are turning more heads than yours,

and she's thoroughly loving it.

Up and down this United Kingdom,

mums are refusing point-blank to grow up.

That is more than enough cleavage. That, however, is not.

They're outraging their daughters with their behaviour...

This is Hotter Than My Daughter.

At 52, Madonna is still loving the unitard and stilettos,

while Courtney Cox has made the concept of being a cougar

the hottest thing in Hollywood. The thing about these two ladies is,

they have a legion of stylists to tell them

when they're crossing the line from cougar to mutton.

Coming up - we go to the frozen wilds of Scotland

to meet a red-hot momma...

She's absolutely gorgeous - slim, tall, fantastisch for her age.

..who feels her daughter needs to stop dressing like a geriatric...

What granny did you nick it off? Give it back to her.

As a mum, I would like to see her natural beauty coming out.

But first...

the roles are well and truly reversed in the Spear household.

While 21-year-old Sinead is the mother of the family,

grandma Caroline is a right goer.

My mum does love to wear tight clothes.

39-year-old grandmother Caroline Spear, from Plymouth,

keeps in shape and likes to show off her tight body.

They're basically all the same -

boobs, boobs out, lot of boob.

Boobs, see-through,

-and boobs. It's all boobs.

-Have I got a good figure?

-Yes.

-Right, then. So why do I have to put it behind frilly blouses?

-Why do you have to have it out?

You got a nice car, you take it out, don't you?

Caroline is a nail technician with a rocky relationship history.

Twice divorced, she's got three kids and three step-kids.

She's never been one to conform.

My dad was in the Navy, so he was very military,

and everything the right way. My mum was, as well.

And I just thought, "No, I want to go down this road."

Why haven't you thrown those jeans away yet?

I can see the crack of your butt!

I still feel like about 17 inside. I haven't matured yet.

I am waiting for that day to come along.

Her 20-year-old daughter Sinead has a kid of her own,

and thinks her mum should have grown up, like, yesterday.

She doesn't care what people think. She's a gran and she still does it. She doesn't mind.

-And then this.

Always, always, always see her bra.

I can tell you the colour of her bra for each day.

When you're younger, you spend half your life trying to look older,

then you spend the other half trying to look younger.

And then you're in an old people's home and you're buggered.

And, like all rebels, Caroline loves a bad boy on a bike.

I've always been into motorbikes,

so I've always had that biker-chick image.

Bikes have influenced the way I've dressed throughout my life.

She used to look like a punk. Now it's like Page 3 but dressed a bit.

These days she keeps her body as trim and as toned as she can,

and that gets her the attention she craves.

Men stare at her so much I feel like giving them a spam on their head.

"Stop looking!"

What's to say my fashion's not right and everyone else's is wrong?

People wear T-shirts and jumpers and hoodies.

You wear anything that gets your cleavage out.

She just dresses the way she wants to.

It's taken me 39 years to find that person within me,

and I've got confidence that I never had.

There's so much pressure on women anyway to look a certain way,

and I just feel, "No, this is it now. This is who I am."

But daughter Sinead could not be more different.

A hairdressing student, she lives a couple of miles away from her mum

with partner David and three-year-old son Carson.

The best thing in my life is Carson.

When I'm not trying to look after Carson, I try and look after David.

I'm always trying to look after someone.

I love being there for people. I love it.

After becoming a mum, looking good slipped down the list

of Sinead's priorities.

Sinead's wardrobe, I would say, consists of...

T-shirts that are three times too big for her...

Don't like tight clothes. I just don't.

And she wants to see me in clothes, but the clothes she's picked for me,

she wants me to dress like her.

-It's comfy!

-Yeah, but it's frumpy,

and it makes you look too big, and it makes you look short.

You've got a lovely figure. You need to be up, a slim line.

Having a child's not an excuse for Sinead to dress the way she does.

The girl needs to get herself sorted,

and then she can be as sexy as her mum.

'so I made my pilgrimage to Plymouth to delve a little deeper.'

Everything is controlled in your life. The way I dress,

the way I am, is not controlled. I can do that.

I've got the right to look the way I want to.

She's never been one of these people that go with looking at magazines.

They think, "Oh, that's in. I'll go get that."

Do you think you need to change your look, or have you got it right?

I think other people will say I need to change my look.

I just think, "Yeah. You wish you could look this good."

I'd say she looks a bit like Jodie Marsh does now.

You lead by example. I try to tell 'em, "Be who you want to be,

and don't worry about what people say."

She has got a body like mine. That's what frustrates me

about the way she's dressed.

People my age with kids, nine out of ten people will say they're easy -

because you're young with a baby, that's the way you are.

It's funny. I'd rather be invisible, to be honest.

Easy rider Caroline and young mum Sinead are on a fashion collision course.

Experts in the fashion field make up our jury.

We're at a swanky hairstylist's in the centre of town,

and they've got a few choice words for our mum and daughter.

Hello, Morticia! That's all I'm saying.

-First reaction, jury?

Mum's hair is quite a synthetic look, and over the top.

The length is not doing anything for her, and the pinkness

-is not doing anything for her.

-I can see you're a girl

that likes to show herself off and get some attention,

but you should have been doing that 20 years ago!

You're a grand-mum. You shouldn't dress like that.

-It's not feminine or attractive.

-For a lady of your age,

for you to wear that is amazing. I think it could be toned down

-and made a bit more sophisticated.

-But you're following a fashion.

See, I'm not. I follow who...what I like.

This is me. This is what I'm happy with.

I don't have to worry about having the best shoes.

-This is what I'm comfortable in.

I understand. From a style point of view,

I have listened, but still - right over me.

I'll still be me tomorrow, looking like this.

Because I'm a young mum... People that are my age and have kids,

they just think you're cheap because you're a young mum,

and you've got to cover up just to prove you're not!

Before she had us all in tears, we got Sinead and mum Caroline

on the fast track to hotness heaven,

where our team of in-house stylists are at the ready.

Ladies, you are about to have a joint 21st and 40th birthday party.

-Yes, we are.

-I'm 21. She's 40.

-What do you hope we're going to change about your mum today?

Put her into something stylish. She wears whatever she wants,

-and nothing in style.

-Well, one thing's for certain -

whether they like it or not, these two are going home looking dramatically different.

Once they've settled in, they're separated from each other.

There's not a single mirror in the salon,

so they're clueless about their makeover.

They won't see themselves or each other till they strut their stuff

on the catwalk.

-So, Sam, what you doing?

-Caroline came in

with these really neon-pink extensions in,

which I wouldn't put in a nine year old's hair, let alone a 39 year old.

So we'll keep her rocking, but we'll tone it down

and make it suit her age a little bit more.

-You know the way you talk about your mum, "boobs out"...

-Yeah.

Why do you want her to cover up?

People get the wrong impression of her.

They think she's cheap when she's not.

Did Sinead's boy mates go a bit goo-goo-eyed for you?

Yes. It's embarrassing. I'm old enough to be their mum!

-Doesn't that make you want to tone it down?

-No, no, no!

It's time for mum and daughter to see their new look for the very first time.

First up, Caroline.

Caroline wore her bra like a badge of honour,

and her jeans were like a butcher's window, displaying her rump.

Her hair was not so much rock chick as Rocky Horror.

Now, doesn't she look younger? She's still edgy in knee-length leather.

She even shows off her shape in a dress - an actual dress!

The angry hair is feminised, but we've kept the attitude

with hints of colour.

Given that she loved her look before,

will Caroline go for it?

Sinead was lost in a mish-mash of oversize hoodies and slouchies.

She'd forgotten how to be a woman.

Can this be the same girl? The hidden beauty's exposed

for all to see, and she oozes sensuality.

Hopefully her confidence will skyrocket when she sees herself.

Looks nothing like me, but in a good way.

Since they got here, Caroline and Sinead haven't clapped eyes on each other.

But that's about to change, as they now see how the other one's look has altered.

13-year-old Paige has joined the stylists

to see how her mum and sister react when they see each other again.

The most horrendous outfit my mum ever put me in was brown cords,

And that was only last week! But listening to this lot, I get off so lightly.

The way my mum dressed me was awful.

Tracksuit bottoms tucked into the socks and the caps.

And the flares! I used to wear flares.

A really baggy top that didn't even fit me.

When we were young, we used to wear those big, poofy, florally dresses.

But that was the fashion then. But were all wearing it, so we laugh about it.

You know those really puffy, fluffy jackets with fluffy hoods?

You know, the chavvy ones. Probably one of those.

My mum used to dress me in curtains when I was younger.

Now a mum and daughter who could not be further apart when it comes to fashion.

We are talking miles away!

42-year-old Amazonian beauty Zoe Williams lives in Sandend,

a remote, tiny village in the far north of Scotland.

Twice-divorced Zoe is single these days, and mum to three kids -

two teen boys and her 21-year-old daughter Nadia.

Just recently, she's begun to despair

of her daughter's fashion eccentricity.

Nadia is a granny herself, with the image.

What granny did you nick it off? If she peed herself,

she's always got a spare skirt, hasn't she?

Just because I dress like an old lady doesn't mean I have the bodily functions of an old lady.

21-year-old Nadia Williams studies fine art at London Saint Martins.

But when she pops home for a visit, her outfits worry the sheep.

Oh, I think you should glam up, even if you're cooking the dinner.

I think it makes you feel better.

It doesn't really matter what other people think of you.

Over the years, Nadia's developed her own anti-style, inspired by trannies and grannies.

When I'm out shopping, I usually go for the most gaudiest,

nasty-looking thing on the rail. That is the thing I will probably buy.

But to mum Zoe, it's not an individual fashion statement.

It's just not right!

It literally is an old-granny hat.

-This was from a vintage shop or something.

-Yeah!

As a mum, I'd like to see more of her youthfulness

and her natural beauty coming out.

You could get three of you in there, couldn't you?

I use it for twirling.

Nadia's dress sense may be controversial,

but at least she's got one.

People in the northeast of Scotland don't really bother with their look.

I think my mum fits into that overall category

of just wearing black trousers and a nice-ish top.

Nice-ish, not very nice, though. SHE LAUGHS

What will most likely draw my mum to a rail in any shop

is the big red neon sign that says "sale" above it.

The last time I was here, they had bras for a pound, and I did indulge.

'I don't see any point in spending a lot of money on clothes.'

Possibly a charity shop before I get home.

£15.99, for a special evening. Nobody would know the difference.

Mum's style's very cheap and nasty and practical,

would be the three words I would use for it.

50p! Come on. There's absolutely nothing the matter with that.

If she can get a top for 50p,

it doesn't matter if there's a perfect top for £2

somewhere else in the shop - she will get the 50p top.

£5 out of Asda. Liked it so much I went back in the sale

and got it for £2!

For Zoe, charity really does begin at home.

She works in a centre for people with special needs.

I'm not really into keeping up with trends.

There's always people far less fortunate than yourself.

Trying to find what makes them tick, that's more important

than what you're wearing and if your earrings are matching.

But it's frustrating her daughter to death.

She's just absolutely gorgeous - slim, tall, fantastisch for her age.

If I was her, I'd be catwalking and vogueing out,

but no, she doesn't.

My daughter is absolutely stunning,

but she hides it away.

So that's why I think I'm hotter.

The Williams women will never see eye-to-eye

on how they present themselves to the world,

so I climbed aboard the sleeper to Scotland to sweet-talk these lovely lasses.

Why am I here? I've come a long way. There better be a good reason.

Basically, my mum decides to wear clothes

that aren't very well fitting. She goes for something that's practical

-over something that looks nice.

-Zoe, you don't think Nadia's in a position to talk, do you?

No, not really. She tends to cover up most of the time.

It would be nice to see her with something nice and fitted.

OK, ladies. I do have to ask - who is hotter, mum or daughter?

Right this minute, probably me.

Is there any actual one fashion inspiration you have?

I love my drag queens, the fact that they're willing to stand out

from the crowd 100 percent, and not give a damn what anybody thinks.

She's kind of flamboyant, so that she doesn't get,

"Oh, aren't you pretty!" She has got a very pretty face and figure.

And I think she wants to be more than that.

Because I'm quite quiet in my personality,

wearing lots of bright colours cheers me up.

If you catch yourself in the mirror, you're, "I'm all right, actually!"

I don't see it because I'm so used to it,

but you can walk along the street and get stopped.

You look, and everybody's in black,

so I rebelled against that by wearing as many damn colours as possible

all at once!

-What does she say about the way you dress?

-Boring. Practical.

She could be like a supermodel, and she just wears clothes

like anybody else does, and she just wants to blend into the background,

which I think's a bit of a shame.

In heels I feel like a transvestite. It makes me over six foot,

and I just feel really conscious.

If I was her, I'd be doing catwalking and everything,

whereas she's quite happy being mumsy-fied, almost.

Yeah.

There are pros and cons on both sides here,

so I'm taking this to a jury

made up of the Highlands' finest hairstylists.

There's far too much going on. You should be making the most

of that lovely figure you look like you've got.

-in the black clothes.

-Hairstyle could do with a revamp.

With a figure like that, she should be making the most of it

and enjoying it.

I like to be quite plain. I like to just blend in the distance, yes.

Taking the jury's comments on board, Kate, Sam, Vic and Curt

are at the ready to reinvent Zoe and Nadia.

There's no mirrors, so they can't see themselves or each other

till our work is done.

It seems to me that you take time out for everyone else

First up, Nadia.

Art student Nadia loved nothing more than knotting a bit of mohair

round her head, topped off with granny's eight-inch hatpin.

Now we've given her the mother of all cutting-edge cuts.

We've stripped away the jumble-sale blankets

and replaced them with a silhouette print which is grown up, not grannified.

But will Nadia miss her trademark style?

Oh, jeez!

Ooh! I look very, um...unusual.

Wow! I look like me, but with more of an edge.

I look like one of those punk-rock chicks.

-Yeah, I do, actually.

I don't buy black, so it's very different to what I would buy.

I wasn't sure about some of the elements, but it all works together.

Thrifty Zoe didn't believe in going overboard when it came to fashion.

Cheap and shapeless was her look.

Now the woman with the heart of gold shines in heels

and a dress that shows off her hourglass figure.

Hopefully this'll be a new beginning for Zoe

and she'll start to put herself first more.
