It's universally acknowledged that every girl likes dressing up,
some fairy wings here, a sequin there and pink everywhere.
But what happens when the dressing up doesn't stop?
And the person doing it...
is your mum?
That is more than enough cleavage.
Oh, my God!
I've got a big wardrobe of lingerie.
Here at Hotter Than My Daughter, we help mums and daughters
who've lost their way in their style and their relationship.
-We'll meet mums that won't grow up...
-Ha, ha, ha!
..And the girls who are old before their time...
What granny did you nick it off?
Give it back to her.
..Before asking a public jury how they need to change.
She's dressed like a stripper, or should I say an old stripper?
Then deliver the mother of all makeovers.
Welcome to Hotter Than My Daughter.
When did it all get so confusing? There used to be the odd glam mum
but they were the exception, not the rule, but now it's all changed.
Welcome to the 21st century and heaven forbid
your boobs and forehead move an inch after your 30th birthday
And that's tough,
especially when your daughter sees you as the competition.
We meet the dirty dancing mum
who's finally found her mojo in middle age.
Would you like your mum dancing like that?
While her dowdy daughter hides away in ginormous joggers.
I love these.
You actually wear those. They look like granddad's.
But first up are Lucy and Sherelle from what Nottingham,
who are at war over their wardrobe.
I'm a young mum, I've still got it, I think.
I could still go out and pull them young lads, I've no doubt.
It's quite upsetting, really,
to know that my mum gets all the guys that I get as well.
The girls live together in Nottingham.
Mum Lucy was 22 when she had daughter Sherelle ,
followed by brother Antonio.
She split up with their dad 15 years ago,
when the kids were four and three.
People are shocked when I tell them the age of my children.
They then can't believe how old I am.
Lucy's had boyfriends since but has never settled down,
choosing to concentrate instead on her career in promotions,
where self-image is everything.
We're doing a holiday survey, where are you travelling to today?
Now 42, Lucy believes that to stay on top and be noticed,
she needs all her assets on show.
That is more than enough cleavage. That, however, is not.
I just wish she'd dress down a bit
where I don't have to see all of her...bumps.
Your boobs are basically out.
They're not, because if they were out, they'd be like that out.
Don't do that again.
Having brought up two kids alone, Lucy's fiercely independent.
My icons have been women that have made an impact on society,
very strong, career-minded. Someone like Madonna.
And to keep ahead at work,
she's gone to extremes to hold on to her youthful looks.
I've had Botox, I've had my breasts done, I've had chemical face peels,
I've had my hair chemically straightened,
I've had my teeth bleached several times.
But while Lucy is happy to have D-cups runneth over,
she hates it when her daughter shows off her chassis.
Sherelle's dress sense is too revealing.
That is so short!
Her bum's hanging out here. It leaves nothing to the imagination.
Even the dog's in shock!
This is just a pair of big knickers.
Before she hit her teens, Sherelle was a bit of a shy tomboy.
Now 19, she's inherited her mum's love of the limelight.
My mum does get called a MILF quite a lot.
These days, unemployed Sherelle
feels her mum competes with her for attention.
Mum's like 40-odd years old, it's not the nicest of things to hear,
especially from a 20-year-old guy.
Which could be why she doesn't apply herself
to fulfilling her own ambitions to become a glamour model.
She lives like a diva, basically. She's a young diva.
All she ever does is sleep.
I think she's got a disease.
I tend to get out, do my thing every day and when I come back,
Sherelle's still in bed, on Facebook.
Lucy wants Sherelle to up her game to succeed in the modelling world.
The work ethic, her partying,
are things that we clash about, continually.
But Sherelle wants Lucy to stop competing with her
and get a life of her own.
I don't think that makes me look too young.
Yeah, but it's the same as mine!
-Meaning that you shouldn't wear it.
I don't think my mum's hotter than me.
If you've got a great pair of knockers,
you might as well flaunt them off a bit.
If that wasn't there, you probably would be able to see your nipple.
I personally feel that I am hotter than my daughter.
To find out what's going on beyond Lucy and Sherelle's wardrobe war,
I went round there to unpick the layers
of this mother and daughter relationship.
-You two definitely aren't the shy type.
Lucy, what do you think of Sherelle's outfit?
It's like wearing underwear going out.
-OK. What about Mum's outfit?
-It's just a bit youthful for her age.
Very important question, who is hotter?
-Definitely not you!
A lot of my male friends come up to me and say that my mum's a MILF.
I've had some of Sherelle's friends contact me on Facebook,
some of the younger guys.
-They've said, "Your mum's hot", which is quite complimentary.
I've had my ex-boyfriend saying that she's very attractive
and I can't really say the rest on TV, cos it's quite rude!
I would like to think that they think I'm quite a young mum.
A yummy mummy.
A yummy mummy. Yeah.
We've had guys interested in both of us.
They've asked my mum out on dates and they've asked me out on dates.
And I think she kind of likes that.
I want my own crowd and I don't want her following it.
I just want her to have her group and stay well over there.
Oh, my goodness.
The apple certainly doesn't fall far from the tree here, does it?
These two are a right handful. But let's see what a jury makes of them.
This jury is made up of staff from a local boutique,
who make it their business to know about style.
They tell it like it is
and Lucy and Sherelle are about to hear a few home truths.
Ladies, give us a twirl.
First impressions, please.
Would you go out like this or is this just for the bedroom?
I'd probably go out like this.
I think she looks a little bit like a hooker.
She's just going to attract the wrong kind of attention.
If one of my friends came out dressed like that,
I'd tell her to go home and get changed and put some clothes on.
That is my argument continually with my daughter.
Sherelle, how do you feel about those comments?
I think that I am sending out the wrong message.
So it's different other people saying it rather than your mum?
-Any more comments on Mum Lucy?
I think what she needs to do is change her hairstyle. It's too long.
It drains the face down. I think she needs to put some layers in it,
funk it up to look more stylish.
I really don't know what you're thinking with that outfit.
It was probably nice in 1988.
I haven't seen anyone wear a dress like that for quite a while.
To be fair, I'm not really a massive fashion person.
I don't keep up with trends because I'm so busy with my career,
but I do feel I could do with an overhaul, definitely.
Jury, thank you very much.
Blimey, they don't hold back in Nottingham. It was a blushing!
Hypocritical or not, Lucy does worry that Sherelle shows too much skin.
To make her point, Mum's got a little surprise
for her devil-may-care daughter.
Lucy, do you want to come in?
Oh, my God!
Basically, this is just to show you
how I feel when you go out wearing something like this.
Do you know what I mean?
You look an absolute mess.
The shoe's on the other foot.
Or the hot pants are on the other bum.
It seems to me that in a job where looks are everything,
Lucy's desperate to hold on to her youth. But in the process,
she's become more of a mate than a mother to Sherelle.
As you know, Sherelle completely looks up to you.
She thinks you're a very successful woman, very strong,
and you've been a brilliant mother.
Do you think maybe she's in your shadow?
Maybe I overshadow her a little bit because,
for me, as a mum, I'm so career-minded,
I want her to be more career-minded and to push herself to her limit.
So maybe her clothes situation is something to do with that.
-I agree with that.
-So if we take you both to Hotness Heaven
and we give you both makeovers,
they're going to make her, I think, a bit more confident.
At the same time, we're going to give you a sexy, gorgeous style
but toning you down a bit so she can maybe blossom.
-Have we got a deal?
Yeah, we've got a deal.
Brilliant. These two delicious dames are willing to give change a go,
all in the name of...modesty?
Our team have definitely got their work cut out for them.
Before they knew what had hit them,
we whisked mother and daughter to pampering paradise,
where some of the top stylists in Britain
were gagging to get their mitts on Lucy and Sherelle.
-And they're here with me now. Welcome to Hotness Heaven.
-How are you feeling?
-A little bit.
Any major fall-outs since I last saw you?
Same old, same old, basically.
All right then, let's get cracking.
From here on in, Lucy and Sherelle are kept apart.
They won't see each other's new look until they hit the catwalk
for the big reveal.
-Are you going to meet her in the middle?
-She covers up the top half, you cover up the bottom half.
So you're going to stick with the boobage.
Yeah, that's not going to change.
She's a tough nut to crack.
I believe you've got a young lady called Sherelle in there.
I certainly do.
Have you managed to prise her out of that top she calls her dress?
Aha! Put it on there. Victory.
And now for the best part of the day - it's time to see who's hotter.
First up, it's daughter Sherelle.
For Sherelle, the issue was the booty.
As lovely as it is, mum Lucy was sick of the sight of it.
Now, Sherelle is sophisticated and sexy.
Gone are the hair extensions, gone are her lower portions.
She's gone from trashy teen to beauty queen
but when she sees it, will Sherelle like it?
Oh, my God!
My hair's huge!
When the mirror turned round and you saw yourself, what did you think?
I think I look amazing. My hair looks SO different.
I'd never choose this, but it looks really nice.
-It does. In those hot pants, you looked kind of like a kid.
But you look sexy and, if I was a guy and saw you in a club,
I'd be very happy.
What about the length of the dress? It's a bit longer than normal.
It's something that I'd probably never go for
but I do really like the length of it.
-So hot pants in the bin?
Now it's Mum's turn.
Extrovert Lucy loved nothing more than showing off her body
in tight, revealing outfits.
Now she's glamorous but tasteful with it.
Her fabulous figure is there for all to see
but isn't in your face, if you know what I mean.
And our stylists have taken years off her.
But will Lucy miss her cleavage when she confronts the new her?
Oh my God! Gosh, I look completely different!
I love it, I love my hair.
-It's just lovely.
-What do you think?
-I love it.
And what about the dress? We've covered you up a bit.
I love it. Very glam.
Isn't it odd that you were wearing a lot younger dresses than this
but now, to me, you look younger.
I think it's the whole package, really, isn't it?
We have covered up the breasticles, are you all right with that?
Yes, because they're still accentuated.
-Will you throw away that Mandarin dress and booby tops?
Lucy and Sherelle have now seen themselves,
but have no idea about each other.
For the first time since they arrived,
they're about to see how they now look.
Sherelle's brother Antonio
and friends Oliver and Dominique are here for the unveiling.
And here come the girls.
Oh, my God!
Oh, my God!
Your hair looks amazing.
You look gorgeous.
So do you. And these are away!
-Oh, my God!
-You look lovely!
-So do you. I missed you today.
Don't touch my hair.
-Hey, Antonio! What do you think?
-They look really good.
Yeah? Better before or better after?
After. I mean,
They looked like hot messes before but now they look really good.
Not as good as me but really good.
As we've found out on Hotter,
mums and daughters are never shy of an opinion or two
and this bunch certainly didn't hold back.
I think it's basically one rule, it's a short or low but not both.
I think there should definitely be
an unwritten age limit on short skirts.
I think there should be maybe a weight limit.
-If you are 50 or 60...
I say between 16 to 25, after that you shouldn't wear short skirts.
I just think when you're younger,
they look fabulous, when you're older...
Not covered up, but just a bit.
I don't think you need to be orange
and have boobs out here to look glamorous.
Oh, I do.
Mum and daughter relationships can be complex at the best of times,
but when you truly believe your mum is more attractive than you
they can be a nightmare.
Most of my friends, their mums are not like my mum at all.
I used to look to a male for approval all the time.
I don't want to do that anymore. If you don't like me as I am, get lost!
Derbyshire's Donna Corkwell had two children
with the husband she divorced some 15 years ago.
Daughter Tanya was six and brother Josh was four.
Determined to move on with her life, she set about making it on her own.
I went back to school when the kids were little
and started a curtain workroom up.
Donna's built a successful interior design business from scratch.
It has given her the good things in life, and at 43,
and newly single, she is enjoying her womanly wiles to the max.
I've just come out of a ten-year relationship.
It's nice to not have to think about a guy all the time.
My clothes have changed, I've changed, my hair has changed.
You want to be noticed more.
That's a catsuit that I really like.
And it shows all the breast area.
Some of her clothes are a bit over-the-top.
It's just very tight.
I think she needs to just calm down a little bit, maybe.
But that's not Donna's style. She loves to make a noise.
All her friends go, "Oh, your mum's gorgeous, your mum's this."
I always pull, Tanya doesn't pull. And I always pull her friends.
We went out for my birthday and a few lads were trying it on with her.
I was like, "Will you please get lost, she's my mum!"
And they were like, "Yeah, but she's so hot!"
She doesn't really like it much,
but I say, "Shut up, I'm enjoying it! It's fun!"
My mum does not know when to stop. She loves attention.
She loves it.
Though Donna appears to have finally found personal happiness,
she is frustrated that 20-year-old Tanya,
who works in an old people's home, refuses to make the best of herself.
She's always been the same.
Even as a little girl, she was happiest in her scruffs.
I proper love these.
You actually wear those, you really wear them.
They're like grandad's or something.
I hate the way Tanya dresses. The jogging bottoms, the slouchy tops.
Hoodie, hoodie, hoodie.
My mum would describe my style as chav.
And that is exactly what she would say - I'm a chav.
We'll go shopping together,
and I'm dressed up with high heels - clip-clop-clip-clop -
she says, "People are looking at you, Mum. They all fancy you, Mum."
I say, "I know, but they should fancy you."
"Dress better, don't wear those grey jogging bottoms!"
The issue here goes beyond the wardrobe.
Would you like your mum dancing like that?
And mum Donna is at a loss to know how she can change Tanya's mindset.
I think she actually likes me being a yummy mummy.
But, on the other side, I think she feels very intimidated.
That's the bit I don't want her to be.
-Have you ever wore that?
Why do you not wear it?
Cos I haven't got a good enough body to wear that.
-Cos I haven't. I'm not tiny like you.
I do like to be girlie, but I've not got much confidence for it.
So when you wear a big hoodie and a pair of slouch jeans
and a pair of trainers, it's comfy, you're covered up
and you don't get no looks or anything.
I want to walk into a room
where people look at her now, where SHE's the star.
But it's getting her there because she's just not confident.
She is a gorgeous, gorgeous girl.
Divorced mum Donna is busy enjoying a new lease of life in her 40s,
while daughter Tanya is desperate to come out from under her shadow.
I've come to the outskirts of Chesterfield to find out more.
-Hello, are you all right?
-Thank you very much.
Tanya, are you not a fan of the way your mum dresses?
Sometimes it's a bit over-the-top.
But I'm proud of my mum cos... She's hot, isn't she?
Since I've been single,
I've been trying to be a bit more sexy as well.
I think Tanya doesn't really like that.
Who is hotter, mum or daughter?
-Me, for now. Cos Tanya should be the hotter one.
Her 21st birthday is coming up and I want her to be the star.
I want to dress down for that and I want her to walk into the room
and everyone to go, "Wow!" That's what I want.
This is the show for that!
Do you think that you being glam makes her
-not even try to compete with you?
-I think some of it is,
but I think we could both go out glamorous.
She should feel what I feel all the time.
It's good to feel like that, being a woman.
When you're out with your friends
and your mum's there, what do they say?
"I wish my mum was like your mum." And I say, "No, you don't."
-They call her a MILF.
She loves the way I look.
She likes all that, she wants to be there but she just goes,
"I'm fat, I'm this and that."
I've always been uncomfortable about my weight and stuff.
Which bit about you don't you like?
-From the waist down.
-From the waist down.
Yeah, I really don't like it. I think that's why I like to cover up more.
-She doesn't feel confident.
Yeah, it's a shame, cos she's gorgeous.
Do you think you overshadow her a bit?
I just want her to be more feminine.
Maybe it's me, maybe I push too much, I don't know.
If you're pushed, sometimes you go the opposite way, don't you?
Do you feel a lot of pressure from your mum sometimes?
-She says she does try to talk to you.
-Yeah, she gets on my nerves.
-Why, what does she say?
-She is always push, push, push.
-So I go the opposite way.
-Have you said to her, back off a bit?
-She'd never back off.
-Is that just her personality?
Well, we've got a right pair here,
but which of them is getting it wrong?
Is it both of them? Let's see what the jury make of it.
The jury is made up of local professionals
who work in the beauty business.
They're not afraid to speak their minds and tell Donna and Tanya
exactly what they think of their look.
So, first reactions?
Mum, you obviously groom yourself really well and look after yourself.
I don't think she needs to have that much flesh on show.
It's not mutton dressed as lamb, she just needs to tone it down a little.
-Ladies, the general consensus is -
if your mum dressed like that would you be happy or not?
I take it on board but I actually like my style, I like the way I am.
Tanya, I think you are really pretty
and have a lot of potential so why not use it?
She's obviously a natural dark colour,
looking at her eyebrows and her eyes.
I think go for a bit more of a natural blonde.
I think Tanya is a really pretty girl
and she's covering a really nice figure.
And Tanya's gone instantly red,
which means that she doesn't like to feel like that.
Whereas mum's very confident with the look of it.
You've been very quiet.
What do you think about what the ladies are saying?
Do you hate it or...?
I don't hate it, it's just weird.
Is everyone wrong and you're right?
It's all right. Jury, thank you very much.
I've spoken to your mum
and she's agreed she's going to tone it down a bit for you
so we can do our job and make you look stunning.
I hope so. That would be nice.
Mum Donna lives a lavish life, but the icing on the cake
would be to see single daughter Tanya blossom.
Welcome to hotness heaven, ladies. Are you nervous?
-Donna, you're looking as hot as ever.
Are you really prepared for us to get working on you?
I'm more excited about Tanya's makeover.
-Are you excited, Tanya?
I can't wait for this one - let's get to work!
Donna, why do you think Tanya is so sensitive about her image?
I think it's a bit of peer pressure from me.
-I want to be able to walk behind her and go, "That's my girl!"
She walks behind me and goes, "That's my mum."
I don't want that any more. I'm too old for that, it's her time.
Now it's time to see the girls' brand new looks. First up, Donna.
Donna loves to dazzle
but was blinding the world with her bare-it-all approach to beauty.
Now, with softer hair and make-up and a little more modesty,
she not only looks more beautiful, she looks more modern.
But when she sees herself, what will Donna think?
Oh, my God!
What are you thinking?
-Where's my Oscar?
What do you think Tanya's friends would make of you now?
Probably movie-star, not MILF.
They're still a little bit of booby, but not loads of booby.
-It's quite glamorous, isn't it?
-Yes, very glamorous.
-What about the hair?
-I love it. It's much better.
The only thing that's missing is the Oscar. Give me an Oscar!
Oh, will you drop the blooming Oscar?!
And now it's Tanya's turn.
Tanya was a tomboy and hid her curvy body in comfort clothing.
Now she looks like a movie star.
Her hair has gone from bomb site blonde to bombshell babe.
And the figure she feared to flaunt is there for all to see.
She's hour glass perfect.
But how will Trackies Tanya react?
Oh, my God! What have they done to me?
What do you think?
-I'm a bit speechless.
The first time in years.
-Can I show you something?
-A bit of a difference.
-A little bit.
You've done a miracle, haven't you? I'm beautiful.
You're totally right, you are.
There's no miracles here.
So, your mum said it, your friends have said it,
the jury said it, the stylist said it.
You are beautiful. Now do you believe it?
-Yes, I do.
-Tell me what you are then.
-I'm hotter than my mum.
Before we got to work on Donna and Tanya, this was their image.
They've now seen their new look for themselves
but still haven't seen each other.
Now, that's about to change.
It's the big moment. It's time to see who's hotter.
Look at you, my baby's a woman.
God, doesn't she look gorgeous?
-God, you're beautiful.
-I'm crying as well!
Oh, my God, you both look absolutely stunning.
What did you think of your mum's reaction?
She scared the hell out of me.
What do you think of the way your mum looks?
It's very elegant, which is what she wanted. So I'm happy.
But I don't think she'd have her hair curled like that.
But I do like it on her.
How are you feeling, Tanya?
-A bit shaky?
-So you said that your baby looks like a woman.
She's gorgeous, absolutely stunning.
That was Hotter Than My Daughter.
Lucy and Sherelle have started afresh in Nottingham,
agreeing to compromise with their clothes and each other.
And Donna and daughter returned to Derbyshire
with mum's pride through the roof and Tanya's confidence sky high.
I love it when a plan comes together.
I guess we won't be needing this any more.
