Semi-Final 3 Alesha's Street Dance Stars

Previously on Alesha's Street Dance Stars,

we saw Wicked and Lil Diamonds book their spots in the grand final.

This is it. The stakes couldn't get any higher.

There's just one place left, but who will claim it?

G25 from Manchester? D*FY from Telford?

Or will it be Ffres from Port Talbot?

There's only one way to find out.

Hello and welcome back to Alesha's Street Dance Stars.

This is the last semifinal.

Three crews have performed two routines,

and there's only one place up for grabs in the grand final.

You can really feel the tension in here, right, guys?

First, the judges have asked our crews to perform a routine

inspired by a dance style they're not used to.

Then they'll take to the stage with a brand-new street dance routine.

The Diversity boys, Perry and Jordan,

will be backstage, chatting to the crews,

and they're all hoping to win this piece of bling...

..and, more importantly, be crowned Alesha's Street Dance Stars 2011!

Now, Turbo, it's the last semifinal.

Do you think today's crews can match the standard we've seen so far?

Well, they're gonna have to match up the previous crews we've seen,

because they brought some fire, so I want to see some more!

-You always want to see fire!

Our judges are scoring on technique, choreography and showmanship.

As always, in the event of a tie,

head judge Kenrick will decide who goes through.

So, on with the show.

As in each of the semifinals, the judges set the crews a challenge.

They asked them to prove there was more to them than simply locking and popping.

So, here's the dance style they have to perform today.

Now, that looks like a challenge to me.

Our three resident judges have invited a ballet expert

who will ultimately decide who will win the special recognition prize.

Please welcome guest judge with a great name, Ashley Dixon!

-How are you doing, Ashley?

-Hi.

So, Ashley, what's the secret to a great ballet performance?

Well, as in every style of dance, performance is very important.

So are confidence and projection in the movements.

Thank you for being here, Ashley.

Let's meet the crew waiting backstage with Perry and Jordan.

They've mastered their street moves,

but can they perfect their pirouette? It's G25!

So, girls, as a street crew, do you think it's been difficult to adapt

to something different like ballet?

No, it's not difficult for us, cos we're versatile dancers,

so we can do a lot of different styles.

There's another all-girl crew in the ballet round.

Does that put pressure on your crew?

Not really, because we've put a storyline into our dance

and we've mixed ballet with street, so it makes it unique.

Well done, girls! Great start to the show. Kenrick, start us off, please.

That was very daring with regards to the music selection.

Not many people are used to that kind of music.

It's not popular music. The formations, the fusion,

-I thought it was bad. Bad, bad, bad!

-"Bad, bad, bad!" That's nice!

Ashley, were you impressed with the girls' technique?

It was brilliant! Really good. Nice to see some pointe work in there!

Really good use of the movements and liked the way

they integrated the ballet arms with the mixture of the street dance.

-Perfect.

Up next, it's our second all-girl group today.

They've had flexibility and power in all of their performances,

but how will they balance that with their plies? It's D*FY!

Ballet's so different to street dance.

What have your rehearsals been like - intense or fun?

We took the ballet challenge really seriously, but had fun with it too.

What's the hardest thing about dancing ballet as a crew?

It's hard, because it's a different style and attitude

to what we normally do.

We chose to choreograph it ourselves and we're really proud of it.

Amazing. Great to see loads of different ballet,

then the complete change to the street dance.

-It was a really good contrast, so well done.

Listen, how difficult is it

to train your body to master new dance techniques?

It takes years. With our profession and your profession,

it takes so long to get to where you are,

and you didn't have much time to do the ballet - which was great.

It would've been nice to see more of a fusion,

but the technique was great in both! It was really great.

Brilliant! Well done, girls.

To be a ballet virtuoso takes time, commitment,

dedication and perseverance.

Have the boys from Ffres got what it takes? Let's find out.

So, boys, you're the only all-boy crew in the ballet round.

Do you feel like you have to prove more?

Yeah, the pressure's on - the fact that we're boys,

but we'll give the girls a run for their money.

I think we'll do better than them.

What can we expect from your routine? Any surprises?

Yeah, we've turned it on its head. It's not classical ballet.

We've got a few surprises. You'll have to wait and see!

I'm not sure I need to ask, but, Turbo, how well did the boys do?

You just killed us! Totally!

What I really enjoyed was you used the ballet music to do street to,

but then you used the house music to do ballet to.

I loved that combination there. That was... You guys killed it!

Ashley, how did the boys do? Did they fuse the styles together well?

-It was so good!

To get the dance of the little swans from Swan Lake

into a street dance number...!

I don't think I'll ever see it again, but it was just brilliant.

The two styles just blended together perfectly. Brilliant.

All three finalists have shown they can plie and jete

in our ballet challenge,

but which crew impressed Ashley the most? While we verify the scores,

let's get a quick reminder of their performances.

All three crews rose to the ballet challenge,

but only one crew will receive the special recognition prize.

Now, Ashley, did our crews capture the essence of ballet?

They definitely did.

The link they made between the two styles was very, very good.

had some serious swagger and fire in their performance.

We're through to the semifinals!

The judges didn't have anything to say that was bad about the routine.

They were just speechless.

It's amazing, the...the...capacity of what you're bringing right now.

Again, you just took over the stage.

We're really going to up our game for the semifinal.

We're going to have to work extra, extra hard.

The question is, do you think you've done enough to get to the final?

-We hope so!

-We changed the set last night,

two hours before our rehearsal finished,

to make our set better. We put back flips in it,

some somersaults, and we tried our best, so fingers crossed.

Kenrick said they were fierce, Lizzie said they were feminine,

and Turbo believes they defy gravity.

The third and final place in the semifinal is going to...

We're D*FY and we're from Telford.

We've just performed in the heats and it was amazing!

Some of the judges said that we were really fierce and we went for it.

-First thing is just the arms, strengthening the arms.

Some of the lines were not as clean as I've seen you ladies do.

But apart from that,

the flavour and the grooves were really, really nice. Very eclectic.

I thought that you guys are fierce and feminine,

which is such a great combination.

I loved the knee drop at the end, that's quite painful.

-It felt so different.

ALL: We're Ffres and we're from Port Talbot.

We just found out we're through to the semifinals, and it feels amazing.

The performance went really well.

The reactions were better than I expected.

The only thing that's missing from you guys is me... OK?

..and a polka dot tie and polka dot pants.

Getting through to the semifinals and being in the top nine

means we have to try harder, rehearse more and up our game.

Good luck to all the other crews in the semifinal,

but we're coming back, bigger and better.

My only concern...

is that I felt that the energy may have been too much,

which then means you lose control, in some of your choreography.

That's my opinion.

Energy is lovely, but have that control.

But transitions, formations, flavour,

how eclectic it was - can't knock that at all.
