Semi-Final 2 Alesha's Street Dance Stars

Previously on Alesha's Street Dance Stars:

We saw Wicked become the first crew to book a place in the grand final.

Today three crews will each perform two routines,

but only one will survive.

Taking to the stage will be Nu Flo from Stafford,

K-Lic from Basildon and from Hartlepool, Lil' Diamondz.

Let battle commence!

Hello and welcome back to Alesha's Street Dance Stars 2011

and the second of our semi-finals.

As before, our three finalists must perform twice

in an attempt to win a place in the grand final.

The crews will present the judges with a new street dance routine,

plus a performance influenced by a dance style they're not used to.

The Diversity boys Perri and Jordan are back to help keep nerves at bay

and this is what our crews are hoping to win:

But of course it's not just the trophy

as our winners will be crowned Alesha's Street Dance Stars 2011!

Lizzie, as well as a great routine,

what do our semi-finalists need to do to book a place in the grand final?

Well, I know that the standard's going to be amazing,

so I just hope that they bring more character to the dance floor

and just be themselves, that's it at the end of the day

-and then that's what's going to appeal to us!

Our judges are scoring on technique, choreography and showmanship

and as always, in the event of a tie

head judge Kenrick will decide who goes through.

So, the first performance incorporates a dance style

the crews aren't used to. Let's see what it is.

Amazing! This is going to be wicked.

Now, our three resident judges are the street experts,

but today they're joined by the star of our bhangra film,

who will be scoring their performances.

Please welcome Rajeev Gupta!

Now, thank you for joining us, Rajeev.

Tell us, what makes bhangra so special?

Well, one word for me describes bhangra and that's euphoric.

-Euphoric?

-It's one of those dance forms that makes you feel happy,

it makes you want to get up and dance. So much energy!

Every time I hear bhangra, that's going to be the hardest bit,

-is going to be me not wanting to get up and dance!

-Thank you.

Now, first up is Nu Flo, who had to swap their popping for some Punjab.

They've been chatting to Perri and Jordan backstage. CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

Were you happy you got the bhangra dance challenge?

When we first got told we were a little bit disappointed

cos we wanted ballet cos we could have mixed B-boy in with it,

but we've had fun learning bhangra.

The judges commented on your uniqueness and your individual style,

do you think you'll maintain this during the bhangra routine?

We've learnt all the bhangra technique,

but we've tried to keep the Nu Flo style, so it's different.

-Kenrick, start us off please.

-Very nice, very nice.

I love the fusion of the bhangra and the hip-hop.

I really do like the way yous lot jump.

Erm, I love the look, the swagger...so for me

that was a really good opening.

Now, Rajeev, how well did they incorporate the bhangra style?

Alesha, I was blown away. I mean, I wasn't sure what to expect...

-CHEERING

-..I wasn't sure what to expect. I had no idea.

I'm really glad you used some of those moves of Punjab, also bidhi,

your jindal singher, you brought them to the table, so I'm impressed.

And it's hard to mix two dance forms together,

-you did that, so well done!

Up next, a crew that like to bring innovation to their routine,

so this challenge shouldn't be a problem for them.

K-Lic have been speaking to Perri and Jordan

about their semi-final challenge.

In previous rounds the judges give you a lot of compliments.

They talked about your popping, locking and also how tight it was.

You think you can transfer that to your bhangra routine?

Definitely, we included popping, locking, a bit of house as well

and we kept some visuals, which make us different.

How have you prepared? Have you been researching?

We've been looking at videos on YouTube on bhangra

and we had a bhangra teacher show us how to improve our technique.

What would you say has been the most difficult part about this challenge?

Well, the three things we've had to concentrate on

is getting the bounce, energy and technique.

We hope we've done enough to impress the judges.

Very nice, boys, very nice.

-Rajeev, start us off.

-Top effort with the costumes!

Only thing missing was the turbans, but that would have been too hard!

Honestly, that gets the extra points with me, definitely.

Moves-wise, your Punjab,

which is the crossover moves that you did, spot-on.

That's exactly how I would have done it myself...

-..brilliant and the other thing I said about bhangra,

it's about enjoying yourselves,

about having a knees-up and you did that,

so top marks, guys, well done!

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE Lizzie, how difficult is it to mix dance styles?

Well, the way that these guys did it was brilliant.

I love the different effects and the vibe that you guys created

and I love the fact that you did popping to express this style

and I thought it was absolutely amazing.

It gave me, like, goose bumps, so I'm really impressed.

You can't get better comments than that, right? Thank you judges.

Now, bhangra is a dance used in celebration.

Hoping to start a party of their own,

Lil Diamondz have been speaking to the Diversity boys.

So, guys, you were given the bhangra challenge.

Are you pleased that you got the bhangra challenge?

Yeah, we were really pleased that we got bhangra

cos it's a style that is closest to street

and it's a really funky and fun style.

You always look like you're having fun.

Do you think that's important for bhangra?

Yeah, bhangra is an energetic style of dance,

but you've got to know that you enjoy it when you're up on stage.

You must have been rehearsing hard for this challenge.

How have you been preparing for it?

We've been rehearsing seven hours a day for the past three days

and hopefully we've done it all.

Come on, guys, come over. Turbo, were you inspired by that performance?

You just ripped it apart! I'm sorry.

I love the way you're fusing your popping and locking

with the bhangra music and there was a part I liked

where there was a break down in the music

and you guys were locking and the music was fitting with your dance.

It just fit perfectly.

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE Thank you, Turbo. Well done, guys.

Rajeev, was there enough of the bhangra style for you?

They didn't incorporate as much as the others in terms of bhangra,

but what you did have was the flips, the acrobatics,

and people don't know, but you've got stunts in bhangra like that.

So, you might have done some of that without knowing.

That was the true bhangra essence

in those smiles and the facial expressions.

Top effort, guys, I'm really happy with that.

ALL: We're Nu Flo and we're from Stafford.

We just performed at the heats,

we felt our performance went well, the judges gave good comments.

I have to say, like myself, that is fresh!

In the semi-finals we're going to have to up our game

cos we've seen the other crews, so we feel more pressure.

We're proud of ourselves,

for the heats we've been practising four hours a day,

so it's well deserved.

Good luck to the crews in the semi-final, but...

Of course! Erm, you guys are really cool.

I love it, like, I'm always excited to see what you're going to produce

and I feel like you're on another level.

You're very professional in what you guys produce

and how the routine's created and that's what I love about you guys,

you're just very, very, VERY creative.

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE Good comments there from Lizzie.

-Turbo?

-Yeah, definitely, like, I agree with Lizzie.

You guys pull off some things! When I'm watching I'm like,

"You actually going for that?

"You're doing it? Land and continue a routine?!"

I like the bit where you have your TV at the beginning

and then you finish with a TV section again, with this pointing,

like, "Yeah, I got a TV in HD! On my TV!" Lovin' it!

-Erm...

I'm going to be critical first. I've seen you guys tighter.

If I'll be honest, I've seen you tighter,

but with creativity, innovation and as young,

the next generation, very pioneering, yeah? So...

Guys, that performance was wicked. We saw it from here, brilliant,

but Kenrick said that he's seen you tighter?

Well, the pressure was really on this time

cos we had to make up two routines.

So, yeah, we could have been tighter,

but we thought the judges' comments were so great and so funny...

We're so pleased with them, yeah.

So, you've done really, really well,

how will you feel if you get through to the final three?

There'll be a lot of pressure,

but if we did get through we'd love to perform our routine.

Well, again, guys, well done. You've done really well.

At the heats Turbo said this crew were connecting with each other,

but will they connect with the judges today? It's K-Lic!

I think the performance went well, but there are things to work on.

The best comment from the judges, that we stepped our game up.

That was a really, really good performance. You guys stepped it up.

-It's an unbelievable feeling to get to the semi-finals

and we feel very overwhelmed about the whole experience.

There's certain parts where it was a little bit messy on certain points

and you guys just need to practise on that a bit more,

just to get it a little bit tighter. That's that!

You guys had some moments in there that were ridiculous!

You guys had some great moments in there, I have to say,

and as always you guys looked good.

You should be proud of yourselves, you did well!

There were some times it felt rushed with some of the combinations.

Especially with the main routine. That felt quite a bit rushed.

Because it is the semi-finals I can see the anxiety start to kick in,

but other than that, guys,

again, I think you are another group who are very, very innovative

and very pioneering in your style that you do.

And what is really nice to see is that you five guys,

you are a crew and that is really nice to see, well done.

The main thing for me, like Kenrick said, is the timing.

Like, it's a big thing and I know we've mentioned that to you before,

when the very first time we saw you, but other than that. Brilliant!

That performance was wicked. How do you feel about the judges' comments?

The judges' comments are really helpful in a way that,

if we get through to the next round, we keep working on our choreography,

getting the timing right

and hopefully stepping up to their standard.

Lizzie couldn't fault them and they left Turbo speechless,

which is saying something!

We're going to step up our game in the semis

by bringing even more energy.

I need to just go in and just be very critical.

Please make sure, work on the routines much more,

they needed to be tighter for me, but the transitions,

there was a whole lot of transitions, like I said,

I can't wait to see you guys, you know, in the future

cos I know you guys are going to progress, which is great.

Your funk styles are just on point, that's what I love about you guys

Yeah, we feel a lot more pressurised,

but also we're really excited to get up there.

You got some constructive criticism,

but mainly good comments from the judges.

We're really happy and glad that they liked it

and everyone else liked it.

So that's it, the crews have blown us away with their skills.
