Hello, I'm Andy. I work here in the National Museum.

0:01:150:01:19

I'm taking this paint to Hatty in the dinosaur gallery.

0:01:190:01:23

She's working on a brand-new exhibit

0:01:230:01:25

all about what life was like 220 million years ago.

0:01:250:01:29

Come on, let's take a look.

0:01:290:01:31

Oh, that looks fantastic!

0:01:350:01:37

Are those eggs?

0:01:380:01:40

Hatty!

0:01:430:01:45

You brought the paint I asked for - excellent!

0:01:450:01:48

-What do you think?

-It looks great!

0:01:480:01:51

What is it?

0:01:510:01:53

This...is the nest of the cynodont,

0:01:530:01:57

a funny little furry creature with excellent eyesight

0:01:570:02:02

and a powerful sense of smell that lived 220 million years ago.

0:02:020:02:09

Here, help me put some lichen in the burrow, will you?

0:02:090:02:13

Lichen in the burrow?

0:02:130:02:14

I'm LIKIN' the sound of that! Whatever lichen is...

0:02:140:02:18

Lichen is a kind of plant-y growth,

0:02:180:02:22

and I have a sneaking suspicion that these sleepy cynodonts

0:02:220:02:27

may have used it to keep their nests nice and cosy.

0:02:270:02:31

-It looks very realistic.

-It should.

0:02:310:02:33

I picked it myself just last month in the mountains of North America.

0:02:330:02:39

I'd better be going. Museum opens soon, and I've still got lots to do.

0:02:390:02:43

OK. What do you want me to do with the paint?

0:02:430:02:46

Oh, could you just touch up this bit here,

0:02:460:02:49

-and put some more lichen in the burrow?

-OK. Leave it to me, Hatty.

0:02:490:02:54

Right.

0:03:010:03:03

There.

0:03:030:03:05

Those eggs are amazing.

0:03:080:03:10

Look at them.

0:03:100:03:12

Oh, no!

0:03:150:03:18

Oh-ho! Erm...

0:03:180:03:21

Ohh, this isn't going to work.

0:03:260:03:28

What am I going to do?

0:03:280:03:30

CLOCK CHIMES

0:03:300:03:32

SQUAWK! SQUAWK! SQUAWK!

0:03:350:03:39

Time to go on a dinosaur adventure!

0:03:390:03:42

Waistcoat, gizmo, hat.

0:03:500:03:53

And, last but not least, Hatty's backpack.

0:03:530:03:56

To the time of the cynodonts!

0:04:080:04:10

CLOCK WHIRRS AND DINGS

0:04:100:04:12

WHOOSHING AND WHIRRING

0:04:210:04:24

Whoa!

0:04:340:04:36

Oh-ho-ho! I've made it!

0:04:500:04:53

I've travelled back in time 220 million years

0:04:530:04:58

to the time of cynodonts.

0:04:580:05:00

Right, I need to find some lichen for Hatty's display,

0:05:000:05:05

and I can get that in a cynodont's burrow.

0:05:050:05:08

But where am I going to find one of those?

0:05:080:05:12

This way's as good as any.

0:05:120:05:14

ANDY GASPS

0:05:180:05:19

I've looked for these cynodont burrows everywhere.

0:05:190:05:23

I still can't find any.

0:05:230:05:24

But I have found some water, and all animals drink water,

0:05:240:05:28

so that's where I'm going.

0:05:280:05:31

I knew it! This is a good sign.

0:05:380:05:41

It's a peteinosaurus, and he's come for a drink.

0:05:410:05:44

He's thirsty, too.

0:05:460:05:48

Right...OK.

0:05:510:05:54

This is more like it.

0:06:010:06:04

It's a cynodont! He's eating his lunch.

0:06:060:06:10

Oh, he's off. Maybe he's going back to his burrow.

0:06:110:06:15

I'll follow him. Hopefully there'll be some lichen there.

0:06:150:06:19

Oh, where are you off to now?

0:06:250:06:27

It's really hot, and this cynodont's running around in circles.

0:06:270:06:32

It's a coelophysis,

0:06:350:06:37

one of the earliest dinosaurs,

0:06:370:06:39

and one of cynodont's deadliest enemies.

0:06:390:06:42

Shoo! Go away!

0:06:430:06:46

That's right, go on!

0:06:490:06:51

Go and chase somebody else!

0:06:510:06:53

This is what I've been looking for!

0:07:090:07:11

There he is. Hello!

0:07:110:07:14

It says here that cynodonts have a great sense of smell,

0:07:140:07:18

and brilliant eyesight.

0:07:180:07:21

That must be why they can live underground in dark burrows.

0:07:210:07:24

Ha-ha, I'm going in!

0:07:240:07:27

Right...

0:07:270:07:29

Oh, it's dark in here.

0:07:370:07:40

I think I can see something ahead.

0:07:400:07:43

HISSING AND GROWLING

0:07:530:07:55

Snoozing cynodonts surrounded by lovely lichen!

0:08:060:08:11

Oh, hang on...

0:08:110:08:13

No, that's not the same stuff that Hatty had.

0:08:130:08:16

Hers was a lot drier than that.

0:08:160:08:19

I'll just have to keep on looking.

0:08:190:08:21

CYNODONT BARKS

0:08:210:08:23

Huh? It's OK, it's all right.

0:08:250:08:28

I'm going, it's OK.

0:08:280:08:31

BABIES WHIMPER

0:08:330:08:35

Ohh, that's why they're barking!

0:08:360:08:39

The babies are in there, too!

0:08:390:08:42

Oh, look at them, getting milk from their mum.

0:08:420:08:45

They're just like mammals.

0:08:450:08:49

I'm going to head back outside.

0:08:490:08:51

Maybe I can find the right lichen there. See you!

0:08:510:08:55

Oh, what's that? Something's tickling my feet.

0:09:050:09:09

Stop it!

0:09:100:09:12

That coelophysis is back and he likes the smell of my feet.

0:09:120:09:16

Stop it!

0:09:160:09:18

I've got to find another way out.

0:09:180:09:20

Oh, yes!

0:09:370:09:40

I've found another exit. Brilliant!

0:09:400:09:42

Oh, no, where am I going to find that lichen? I still haven't got it.

0:09:460:09:51

Hello, what are you doing here?

0:09:540:09:57

Lichen!

0:09:570:09:59

And it's the drier stuff, too - just what I need.

0:09:590:10:03

Thanks!

0:10:040:10:06

There we go. Now all I have to do is get back to the museum.

0:10:090:10:12

I should just have enough time.

0:10:120:10:15

Hang on a minute...

0:10:170:10:19

I'm stuck!

0:10:190:10:21

CLOCK CHIMES

0:10:210:10:23

The clock...

0:10:230:10:24

I've got to get back!

0:10:240:10:27

What am I going to do? I'm stuck!

0:10:270:10:29

HE GROANS

0:10:290:10:31

Hatty's backpack! It's always full of useful things.

0:10:310:10:35

A fishing line? How's this going to help me?

0:10:380:10:41

Unless...

0:10:430:10:45

My chicken sandwich.

0:10:510:10:54

Right, now, all I have to do is wait for the greedy coelophysis

0:11:000:11:04

to come and pick the sandwich up.

0:11:040:11:07

Come on. Come on!

0:11:090:11:12

It's there, come on, it's your sandwich.

0:11:120:11:15

That's it, that's it...

0:11:150:11:19

Good!

0:11:190:11:22

ANDY YELLS

0:11:240:11:26

Ow! Whoa! Slow down!

0:11:260:11:31

Oh-ho!

0:11:340:11:36

HE COUGHS

0:11:380:11:40

Ah! Finally, I made it!

0:11:400:11:44

Hold on...what's happened to the clock?

0:11:480:11:51

Oh, I think I've found my answer.

0:11:520:11:55

DINOSAURS SQUAWK

0:11:550:11:58

Well, there's only one way to get rid of them.

0:12:030:12:06

HE YELLS

0:12:080:12:12

Time to head back!

0:12:160:12:18

CLOCK CHIMES

0:12:250:12:27

Hurry along, now.

0:12:550:12:57

This is the burrow of a cynodont,

0:13:060:13:09

-a funny-looking animal.

-(Especially up close.)

0:13:090:13:12

It looked a bit like a dog,

0:13:120:13:14

but made its nest underground to keep its babies warm.

0:13:140:13:18

Thanks, Andy. I'm really liking the lichen.

0:13:180:13:22

And you look like you've been down a burrow yourself.
