But today the cars will be a little different.

RADZI ROARS LOUDLY

Formula Goblin is a project which challenges 90 schools to

build and race their very own green, battery-powered cars.

And a soaking wet racetrack won't stop us from competing too.

Yes! Look at those things. I want to get in one right now

-cos, Barney, I really think...

-Radzi, shush those lips.

We can't drive one till we've built it.

-And that was two weeks ago.

-Time travel?

We're here in Hampshire to see the final build of two Goblin cars.

There'll be two teams, and two Blue Peter presenters.

-So, you know what that means?

-I know what that means.

-Means I'm going to win.

-We'll see about that.

I'm joining the Green Goblins.

And I've been recruited by the Leaping Leopards.

-ALL:

-Yeah!

Each team has been sent a kit to assemble.

The idea is to build a car that produces no air pollution

and they are encouraged to use recycled parts.

So, this is from a bicycle.

We tested a couple of bicycle brakes and this was the strongest one.

It's really about the engineering, isn't it?

-Yeah.

-It's about making decisions, seeing how they work,

-and, if they don't work, making them better.

-Yeah.

'Tech's all well and good, Barney, but it has to look amazing as well.'

So, what are we thinking in terms of decoration?

Well, we've got our leopard print tape, we've got our bodywork,

we've been spending the last few weeks just painting all this.

'And the final touch.'

Now we are in business. Evie, are you happy?

Yeah, it really stands out.

-Team, are we happy?

-ALL:

-Yes.

Let's do it.

We'll be competing against each other in three different races.

First is the sprint.

Which Goblin is fastest over 50 metres?

-This is an epic challenge.

-Oh, yes.

Radzi, your car's that way, mate.

'Hang on, Barney. I'm catching up.'

'I'm not sure how, but I pipped Barney on the line

'and my team-mates can't believe it.'

'Yeah, well done, Radzi.

'But speed isn't everything.

'Our next race is about skill and control.'

'Ah, yes. Bring on the slalom.

'We have to drive between these cones and finish in this box.

'And there's a penalty for every single cone we hit.

'I'm first, and it's proving difficult in these wet conditions.'

'I think I've knocked a few cones but my team seem confident.'

'My turn and I am in my element.'

-Well done, Barn.

'making it 1-1 on the challenges.'

'So, it all comes down to this.

'Each team will take on one lap of this legendary track.

'That's 2.4 miles of speed, turns and pure skill.

'The winner takes all.'

Guys, you've put your faith in me, you've built me an amazing car.

I'm trying to stay quiet and concentrate

and Radzi's just making a lot of noise.

-Hello?

-I think he thinks that making noise makes him go faster.

-Urgh.

Uh-oh.

Erm, I may have a battery problem.

I'm in the lead!

'Oh, no. A battery glitch has left me trailing.'

Yes!

The home straight. Anything could happen.

'I need to catch Radzi.'

It's going to be a close finish.

It could be anybody's race.

'And it's down to a photo finish.'
