And there it is. | 0:00:47 | 0:00:48
You can see all four candles are shining brightly, | 0:00:48 | 0:00:51
which means it is officially our Blue Peter Christmas Special. | 0:00:51 | 0:00:54
-Yes! -Can't wait. Christmas is next week. | 0:00:54 | 0:00:57
If you're not feeling festive yet, don't worry. | 0:00:57 | 0:00:59
This show is fuller than Santa's sleigh on Christmas Eve. | 0:00:59 | 0:01:02
Now, would you please just take a look at our studio. | 0:01:02 | 0:01:06
-Wow! -We've transformed it into a winter wonderland, | 0:01:06 | 0:01:08
filled with your cards and your gifts that you sent to us, | 0:01:08 | 0:01:11
and the surprise Christmas tree that I showed you how to make last week. | 0:01:11 | 0:01:15
Listen. Christmas is all about the dancing, clearly. | 0:01:15 | 0:01:17
-And, also, the presents, so I'm going to challenge you two... -Uh-oh. | 0:01:17 | 0:01:20
..to a Christmas present wrapping challenge. | 0:01:20 | 0:01:23
-Done. -OK. It's on. I like the sound of that. | 0:01:23 | 0:01:25
As well as that, we've got over 200 Blue Peter fans... | 0:01:25 | 0:01:28
They're out in the corridors, warming up their vocal cords. | 0:01:28 | 0:01:31
-# La-la-la. # -Later, we're going to be doing... A bit like that. | 0:01:31 | 0:01:34
..our annual Christmas sing-along - we cannot wait for that. | 0:01:34 | 0:01:36
First, you may be very used to mince pies and Christmas puddings | 0:01:36 | 0:01:39
-and all that kind of thing at Christmas time. -Yeah! | 0:01:39 | 0:01:42
But a few weeks ago, | 0:01:42 | 0:01:43
I went to find out just why these are Christmas traditions. | 0:01:43 | 0:01:46
So, if I'm going to explain | 0:01:48 | 0:01:50
where some of our Christmas traditions came from, | 0:01:50 | 0:01:52
I'm going to need somewhere grand, luxurious and a little bit special. | 0:01:52 | 0:01:56
Yeah, that'll do. | 0:01:57 | 0:01:59
This is Osborne House on the Isle of Wight, | 0:02:02 | 0:02:05
and it's a house fit for royalty, literally. | 0:02:05 | 0:02:08
For 18 years, this is where Queen Victoria spent Christmas. | 0:02:08 | 0:02:11
So, it's got plenty of festive history. | 0:02:11 | 0:02:13
Wow! This room's amazing! | 0:02:13 | 0:02:16
'Which is why it's got its own historian, Michael Hunter.' | 0:02:16 | 0:02:19
Why did Queen Victoria love coming here? | 0:02:19 | 0:02:21
Osborne was quiet, it was an escape, | 0:02:21 | 0:02:24
it was somewhere where Queen Victoria and her family could come | 0:02:24 | 0:02:27
and really enjoy a really jolly, happy Christmas together. | 0:02:27 | 0:02:30
And Queen Victoria played a huge part in Christmas, didn't she? | 0:02:30 | 0:02:33
The way that we celebrate Christmas today, with trees and a big meal, | 0:02:33 | 0:02:37
I think that was something | 0:02:37 | 0:02:39
that Queen Victoria and Prince Albert really started. | 0:02:39 | 0:02:42
What would this room have looked like when Queen Victoria was here? | 0:02:42 | 0:02:45
It would have been a bit different. | 0:02:45 | 0:02:47
I'm not going to explain too much about that at the moment. | 0:02:47 | 0:02:50
Let's show you what happened in here at Christmas. | 0:02:50 | 0:02:53
And show you we will. | 0:02:53 | 0:02:55
We're going to make the main hall at Osborne House | 0:02:55 | 0:02:58
look similar to Queen Victoria's time. | 0:02:58 | 0:03:01
Along the way, I'll be explaining | 0:03:01 | 0:03:03
how some of the things that put the jingle in Christmas came about. | 0:03:03 | 0:03:06
Stuff like this. | 0:03:08 | 0:03:09
The Victorians were the first to make mince pies sweet. | 0:03:13 | 0:03:16
Originally, they had meat in them, with fruit added to bulk it out. | 0:03:16 | 0:03:20
But when Queen Victoria was on the throne, sugar was cheaper, | 0:03:20 | 0:03:23
which meant that they could ditch the meat, | 0:03:23 | 0:03:25
giving us the sweet treat we know and love today. | 0:03:25 | 0:03:28
But I wonder what the meat version tasted like. | 0:03:28 | 0:03:32
-OK, well, proof is in the pudding. Shall I go for it? -Go for it. | 0:03:32 | 0:03:35
Oh. | 0:03:38 | 0:03:40 | |
That is meaty. I can see why they changed them. | 0:03:40 | 0:03:43
Enough with the pies. | 0:03:43 | 0:03:45
Time to get on with recreating Queen Victoria's Christmas. | 0:03:45 | 0:03:48
First, the huge tree. | 0:03:48 | 0:03:51
It is quite strange that at Christmas time, | 0:03:51 | 0:03:54
we plonk trees in our houses. | 0:03:54 | 0:03:56
Why did that start? | 0:03:56 | 0:03:57
I think it was really started | 0:03:57 | 0:03:59
by Queen Victoria and her husband, Prince Albert. | 0:03:59 | 0:04:02
Everybody else sort of copied it. | 0:04:02 | 0:04:05
But this one, particularly, is strange. It's fake. | 0:04:05 | 0:04:09
Yep, that's right. | 0:04:09 | 0:04:10
Believe it or not, | 0:04:10 | 0:04:12
Queen Victoria was one of the first people to have an artificial tree. | 0:04:12 | 0:04:15
Looking good. | 0:04:15 | 0:04:17
That way, it would stay looking its best for any important guests. | 0:04:17 | 0:04:20
It's officially Christmas! | 0:04:20 | 0:04:22
Yeah! Wow! | 0:04:24 | 0:04:26
There we go. I think that looks pretty good. | 0:04:26 | 0:04:28
Good enough for Queen Victoria, definitely. | 0:04:28 | 0:04:31
And almost so good, I can see it on the front of a Christmas card. | 0:04:31 | 0:04:34
In 1843, a man called Henry Cole was so busy, | 0:04:37 | 0:04:41
he couldn't write to all his friends and family at Christmas. | 0:04:41 | 0:04:44
So, he had a clever time-saving idea. | 0:04:44 | 0:04:48
He asked an artist to paint a picture of a family enjoying Christmas. | 0:04:48 | 0:04:52
Henry had prints made and sent to everyone, | 0:04:52 | 0:04:55
and with that, the first Christmas card was born. | 0:04:55 | 0:04:58
So, there you have it. Another Christmas classic. | 0:04:59 | 0:05:02
And another Christmas essential is this, isn't it, Michael? | 0:05:02 | 0:05:05
The wreath. So, how did this come about? | 0:05:05 | 0:05:07
In the days before tinsel and very glittery baubles, | 0:05:07 | 0:05:10
one had to make do with what one could get out of the garden, | 0:05:10 | 0:05:13
and create these round wreaths. | 0:05:13 | 0:05:16
While we hang up this classic Christmas decoration, | 0:05:16 | 0:05:18
it's time for another first, and this one's a cracker. | 0:05:18 | 0:05:22
Wow! Nice beard. | 0:05:27 | 0:05:29
In the late 1800s, Tom Smith wasn't a happy man. | 0:05:29 | 0:05:32
He made sweets, but he wanted to make them extra special for Christmas. | 0:05:32 | 0:05:36
So, he thought about it. | 0:05:36 | 0:05:38
And then he thought about it some more. | 0:05:38 | 0:05:41
And some more. | 0:05:42 | 0:05:44
In fact, Tom thought about it for seven long years. | 0:05:44 | 0:05:47
And then, suddenly, while listening to his roaring fire, it came to him. | 0:05:47 | 0:05:51
He would put a crackle and a bang in the sweet wrapper, | 0:05:51 | 0:05:54
and so he created the world's first Christmas cracker. | 0:05:54 | 0:05:58
And crackers can be found on the table | 0:05:59 | 0:06:01
for the most important meal of the year - Christmas dinner. | 0:06:01 | 0:06:04
It can't be that hard to set the table for the Queen, right? | 0:06:04 | 0:06:07
-Just, knives, forks and loads of glasses. -Oh, no. Oh, no, no, no. | 0:06:07 | 0:06:11
It's a bit more complicated than that. | 0:06:11 | 0:06:13
There were three guys employed by Queen Victoria | 0:06:13 | 0:06:16
just to set these tables. | 0:06:16 | 0:06:18
-That was their job all year, set the table for Queen Victoria? -Yeah. | 0:06:18 | 0:06:22
So, we're setting the table | 0:06:22 | 0:06:24
to exactly how Her Majesty would have had it for her festive feast. | 0:06:24 | 0:06:28
And it's a precise job. | 0:06:28 | 0:06:30
The knives and forks have to be exactly the same distance apart. | 0:06:30 | 0:06:35
Yeah, a little bit wonky. | 0:06:35 | 0:06:36
No time to admire that, though. Our room is almost there. | 0:06:36 | 0:06:39
But we just need a few finishing touches. | 0:06:39 | 0:06:42
And finally, we've finished. | 0:06:46 | 0:06:48
The room has been transformed into a feast of Christmas loveliness. | 0:06:48 | 0:06:52
So, there you have it. | 0:06:52 | 0:06:53
A room and a Christmas set for a queen. Just need my crown now...! | 0:06:53 | 0:06:57
No? Yeah, I'll leave the jokes to Barney. | 0:06:57 | 0:07:01
-Yes. Yes, you should, cos I'm hilarious. -Yes, that's right. | 0:07:01 | 0:07:04
If you want to have a go at testing your knowledge, head online. | 0:07:04 | 0:07:08
-There's a Christmas tradition quiz that you can have a go at. -Love it. | 0:07:08 | 0:07:12
Challenge time. We're going to need a bit of help for this one. | 0:07:12 | 0:07:15
-I knew you were going to do that! -It's what I do when I get excited. | 0:07:15 | 0:07:18
-Let's get him in. -Yeah, let's do it. | 0:07:18 | 0:07:19
-The Art Ninja himself, Ricky Martin. -Yeah! | 0:07:19 | 0:07:22
CHEERING | 0:07:22 | 0:07:23
-Hello. -Ricky! -Welcome. -Thank you... -It's not for you. | 0:07:23 | 0:07:27
-We all know how hard it is wrapping presents at Christmas time. -Yes. | 0:07:27 | 0:07:31
-I want to put your Christmas wrapping skills to the test. -OK. | 0:07:31 | 0:07:34
-You can have 30 seconds. -Yeah. | 0:07:34 | 0:07:35
You're going to have to neatly wrap a present. | 0:07:35 | 0:07:38
-Only 30 seconds? -Only 30 seconds. -Right. -I think that's OK. | 0:07:38 | 0:07:41
-Here's one I wrapped earlier. -Very good. OK. | 0:07:41 | 0:07:43
There's a guide you can use. Yours aren't going to be as simple. | 0:07:43 | 0:07:46
-You're going to have something a little bit more unusual. -OK. | 0:07:46 | 0:07:50
-Uh-oh. -Presenters, to your presents. | 0:07:50 | 0:07:52
-Oh, let's do it. -You've got to be kidding! | 0:07:52 | 0:07:55
-Oh, come on! -Why do I get the ball? I've been stitched right up. | 0:07:55 | 0:07:58
-What on earth...! -I think you guys are going to have a lot of fun. | 0:07:58 | 0:08:01
-Are you ready? -Yes. | 0:08:01 | 0:08:03
Three, two, one, wrap. | 0:08:03 | 0:08:05
KLAXON | 0:08:05 | 0:08:07
A bit more simple there. | 0:08:07 | 0:08:09
Why have we only got 30 seconds? | 0:08:09 | 0:08:11
Oh, no! We can't rip it. | 0:08:11 | 0:08:14
-Keep your heart in it, guys. -Barney! -I didn't do that. | 0:08:14 | 0:08:18
Have I got to disguise it so you don't know what it is? | 0:08:19 | 0:08:23
It does help a little bit. Much neater there, Radzi. | 0:08:23 | 0:08:26
Oh, no. There's no time left! | 0:08:26 | 0:08:29
OK, I didn't expect that. That's a different technique. | 0:08:29 | 0:08:32
I've done a mischief. | 0:08:32 | 0:08:34
KLAXON | 0:08:34 | 0:08:36
Unfortunately, you're out of time. | 0:08:36 | 0:08:38
-The buzzer has gone. -The important thing is that you tried. | 0:08:38 | 0:08:41
We did try very hard. But they all look terrible. | 0:08:41 | 0:08:44
Now, unfortunately, I can't pick a winner. | 0:08:44 | 0:08:46
-You weren't wrapping up these presents for me. -What? -Really? | 0:08:46 | 0:08:49
-All right, cockers? -THEY CHEER | 0:08:49 | 0:08:52
-Hey! -All right, dude? -Hey, Hacker. -Wrapping them up for me, cocker. | 0:08:52 | 0:08:55
By jingle, you've made a right mess of them. | 0:08:55 | 0:08:57
You made a dog's dinner of it, which is one of the things I quite like. | 0:08:57 | 0:09:01
-We only had 30 seconds. -We didn't have very long. | 0:09:01 | 0:09:03
It's longer in dog years. Let's have a little look through. | 0:09:03 | 0:09:05
What have you done there, Barney? | 0:09:05 | 0:09:07
I've done a ball with a flair-y bit on the back of it. | 0:09:07 | 0:09:10
-That's not even wrapped! -It's a mess! Show us yours, Linds. | 0:09:10 | 0:09:13
I can't move it off the table. It will all fall apart. | 0:09:13 | 0:09:16
-But this is my sombrero. -Monstrosity. And, Radz, show us your one. | 0:09:16 | 0:09:19
Mine is a cricket bat, which you can't tell, | 0:09:19 | 0:09:21
because I've wrapped it all! | 0:09:21 | 0:09:23
I think the best one of the three - | 0:09:23 | 0:09:25
and to be fair, cocker, they're all weak - | 0:09:25 | 0:09:27
it's Radz, he's the best! | 0:09:27 | 0:09:29
What?! CHEERING | 0:09:29 | 0:09:31
Well done, Radz. | 0:09:31 | 0:09:33
Well done, Ricky Martin. | 0:09:33 | 0:09:35
If you jump onto the website, you will learn an awful lot, | 0:09:36 | 0:09:39
because Ricky Martin, the man, the myth, the legend, | 0:09:39 | 0:09:41
will be teaching you how to wrap the perfect present. | 0:09:41 | 0:09:43
Better than this, hopefully. | 0:09:43 | 0:09:45
-Do you know what, Linds? -What? -I'm not feeling Christmassy. -Really? | 0:09:45 | 0:09:48
-Yes! -Oh, Radz, don't be like that. There's Christmas in the air. | 0:09:48 | 0:09:51
Maybe what you need is a mega-band | 0:09:51 | 0:09:53
who've got four top-ten singles and a triple-platinum-selling album. | 0:09:53 | 0:09:57
I'm thinking Scouting For Girls. What do you reckon, Radz? | 0:09:57 | 0:10:00
-Linds, I am in the mood now. -Good. | 0:10:00 | 0:10:04

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE | 0:13:07 | 0:13:09
Boys, amazing! | 0:13:11 | 0:13:13
-It was such a Christmassy song, you've made it snow. -Oh, beautiful! | 0:13:13 | 0:13:17
That is one of the best Christmas songs we've heard for a while. | 0:13:17 | 0:13:19
Everybody's singing it. That means it's going to be number one. | 0:13:19 | 0:13:22
-Hopefully. -Let's talk about the album as well. | 0:13:22 | 0:13:25
New album, Still Thinking About You, | 0:13:25 | 0:13:26
which came out last month and doing very well. | 0:13:26 | 0:13:29
Lots of acoustic songs like that, nice upbeat... | 0:13:29 | 0:13:31
Nice sing-along... Once you've heard it, you know all the words. | 0:13:31 | 0:13:34
-That's us. -And what about the badge you're wearing? | 0:13:34 | 0:13:37
-How exciting is that? -This is... Yeah. I'm not even joking. | 0:13:37 | 0:13:40
This is as exciting as a Christmas number one. I'm not even joking. | 0:13:40 | 0:13:44
Let's talk about the most exciting day, of course - Christmas Day. | 0:13:44 | 0:13:47
What are you going to be doing? | 0:13:47 | 0:13:49
I'm just going to be at home with my family, stuffing my face. | 0:13:49 | 0:13:52
Then sleeping for a few hours, getting back up, | 0:13:52 | 0:13:54
eating some more, sleeping for a few hours... | 0:13:54 | 0:13:56
-Sounds good. -A perfect Christmas Day. | 0:13:56 | 0:13:58
I'm sure next year's going to be a very successful one for you boys. | 0:13:58 | 0:14:01
Thank you very much, Scouting For Girls. | 0:14:01 | 0:14:03
CHEERING AND APPLAUSE | 0:14:03 | 0:14:06
-Ohh! We loved that, didn't we? -Legends. | 0:14:06 | 0:14:09
Something else that we love is this. It's this week's big badge wall. | 0:14:09 | 0:14:13
It's looking festive, fun, it's sparkly. | 0:14:13 | 0:14:15
You guys have done a really great job. You have not disappointed. | 0:14:15 | 0:14:19
Katie and Hannah from Skipton, | 0:14:19 | 0:14:21
they're sisters, and they sent in these. | 0:14:21 | 0:14:23
They're kind of 3-D shiny bits there. | 0:14:23 | 0:14:25
You can see that me, Radz and Barns, we're all on these little baubles. | 0:14:25 | 0:14:28
At the top, Iggy's got her very own star. | 0:14:28 | 0:14:31
Iggy, in fact, has her very own drawing. She's loving it. | 0:14:31 | 0:14:34
She's wearing a little sparkly collar and she's even got her own bone. | 0:14:34 | 0:14:37
Iggs, do you like it? | 0:14:37 | 0:14:39
-Yeah. -There you have it. | 0:14:39 | 0:14:41
Oliver from Hampshire, thank you so much for sending in these. | 0:14:41 | 0:14:44
We have our very own sock snowmen and we've got one each. | 0:14:44 | 0:14:46
-Can I take one? -Linds, that's one for you. -Little green one. | 0:14:46 | 0:14:49
-Barn, one for you. -Thank you very much. | 0:14:49 | 0:14:51
-Oliver, hero. -Love them. -Lovely. | 0:14:51 | 0:14:54
Now, it's not just the snowmen wrapping up warm for winter. | 0:14:54 | 0:14:56
The presenters are, too, according to Christopher from Coventry. | 0:14:56 | 0:14:59
There's Lindsey and Radzi saying, "Merry Christmas." | 0:14:59 | 0:15:02
This guy down here, you'd think it was me but, actually, it's not. | 0:15:02 | 0:15:06
It's Bart, our camera guy over here. | 0:15:06 | 0:15:09
Isn't that an uncanny resemblance? Christopher, how did you know? | 0:15:09 | 0:15:12
That's amazing. Thank you so much for getting in touch. | 0:15:12 | 0:15:15
Thank you so much to all of you who've got in touch. | 0:15:15 | 0:15:18
We've loved decorating the studio with your brilliant festive post. | 0:15:18 | 0:15:21
Thank you. | 0:15:21 | 0:15:22
If you haven't been in touch to get your badge, | 0:15:22 | 0:15:25
what are you waiting for? | 0:15:25 | 0:15:26
You could make it your resolution. | 0:15:26 | 0:15:27
All the details that you need are on the Blue Peter website. | 0:15:27 | 0:15:30
Maybe you have got a badge. What colour are you going to go for next? | 0:15:30 | 0:15:33
There are six to choose from. | 0:15:33 | 0:15:35
All you have to do is send the details to the usual address. | 0:15:35 | 0:15:37
We love to hear from you. | 0:15:37 | 0:15:39
Next up, I can feel a Russell-Radzi festive challenge on the way. | 0:15:39 | 0:15:43
DRAMATIC MUSIC PLAYS | 0:15:44 | 0:15:46
This year, Radzi and I have taken our rivalry to the next level. | 0:15:48 | 0:15:52
-We've battled it out on water... -Yeah! | 0:15:52 | 0:15:55
..on land... THEY SHOUT OUT | 0:15:55 | 0:15:58
..and now, as 2015 comes to a close, we're going head-to-head on ice. | 0:15:58 | 0:16:04
This is Hyde Park Winter Wonderland in London, | 0:16:08 | 0:16:12
and it's here that we're taking on our frosty face-off. | 0:16:12 | 0:16:16
We're going to see who can make the best one of these, an ice sculpture. | 0:16:16 | 0:16:20
Before we get to work ourselves, let's meet ice master Jamie. | 0:16:25 | 0:16:29
He sculpted a lot of these amazing creations. | 0:16:29 | 0:16:33
I've seen some snowmen in my time, but that is, hands down, | 0:16:35 | 0:16:38
the greatest snowman I've ever seen. | 0:16:38 | 0:16:41
-He's very cool, isn't he? -It's amazing. | 0:16:41 | 0:16:43
Yeah! | 0:16:46 | 0:16:48 | |
I am an ice sculpture! | 0:16:48 | 0:16:50
-Is your face cold? -Very cold. -Get out! | 0:16:50 | 0:16:53
That's because this place is kept at minus 8 degrees | 0:16:55 | 0:16:57
to stop the ice from melting. | 0:16:57 | 0:17:00
Right, enough of this cave of coldness. | 0:17:00 | 0:17:02
Bring on the ice-sculpting challenge. | 0:17:02 | 0:17:04
-OK, show us how it's done. -OK. -I want to see this. -All right. | 0:17:04 | 0:17:08
-Straight away, so much has come off. -You made that look really easy. | 0:17:10 | 0:17:15
In a matter of just minutes, | 0:17:16 | 0:17:18
Jamie chips away to create the perfect Christmas tree. | 0:17:18 | 0:17:21
-There we go. -Wow! Look at that. -Look at that. | 0:17:21 | 0:17:25
And we're going to have ten minutes to do the same. Simple(!) | 0:17:25 | 0:17:29
-And then we're going to compare them at the end... -OK. | 0:17:29 | 0:17:32
-..to see who's done best. -OK. -Are you ready? -Let's do it. | 0:17:32 | 0:17:34
-Radz, good luck. -Good luck, Linds. -Go. | 0:17:34 | 0:17:37
OK... | 0:17:38 | 0:17:39 | |
I get off to an absolute flyer. | 0:17:40 | 0:17:42
It's like I've been doing it for years. | 0:17:42 | 0:17:45
I'm scared to... Oh! | 0:17:45 | 0:17:47
Don't be scared. Go for it. | 0:17:47 | 0:17:49
There you go. You've made a mark. | 0:17:49 | 0:17:51
I'm being a bit more cautious, but it's a marathon, not a sprint. | 0:17:52 | 0:17:56
Oh, no. | 0:17:58 | 0:17:59
Soon, we're both up and running. But this ice sculpting is hard work. | 0:17:59 | 0:18:03
-I haven't even got halfway there. -No, my arm hurts. | 0:18:03 | 0:18:05
-I'm a little bit tired! -My arm really hurts! | 0:18:05 | 0:18:08
-Oh, that's really nice and delicate. -I've taken the lead. | 0:18:10 | 0:18:13
Don't get too confident, Radz. Eventually, I find my rhythm. | 0:18:13 | 0:18:17
Excellent. | 0:18:19 | 0:18:20
I'd hurry up. I'm on to the finishing touches. | 0:18:20 | 0:18:23
I've just got the branches to do. | 0:18:23 | 0:18:25
Don't try and blow it to look more professional. | 0:18:25 | 0:18:29
-Oh, no. -How long have we got? | 0:18:29 | 0:18:31
-Three minutes. -What?! -Three minutes to go. | 0:18:31 | 0:18:35
-I'm behind. -I'm very much in the lead. | 0:18:35 | 0:18:38
All I've got to do is do the finishing touches. | 0:18:38 | 0:18:41
Oh! | 0:18:43 | 0:18:44 | |
Bit unnecessary. | 0:18:44 | 0:18:46
Careful, Linds. You've got to treat the ice with respect. | 0:18:46 | 0:18:50
OK, just one minute left. One minute to go. | 0:18:50 | 0:18:53
-Radz, be careful there. Nice and delicate. -Chill out, Radzi. | 0:18:53 | 0:18:56
You'll get... SHE GASPS | 0:18:56 | 0:18:59
Oh, no! I just... | 0:18:59 | 0:19:01
What was that about being careful, Radz? | 0:19:03 | 0:19:05
-That's it, time's up. -Oh, yes! | 0:19:06 | 0:19:09
In just ten minutes, | 0:19:13 | 0:19:14
we've turned our ordinary block of ice into a beautiful Christmas tree. | 0:19:14 | 0:19:19
Well, I've actually turned mine into two beautiful trees, Linds. | 0:19:20 | 0:19:22
But whose is the best? | 0:19:22 | 0:19:24
And the winner is... | 0:19:24 | 0:19:26
-Lindsey! -Yeah! | 0:19:26 | 0:19:28
-Sorry. -Fix! | 0:19:28 | 0:19:30
Look, it's awesome. I mean... | 0:19:30 | 0:19:32
Radzi, you were doing well till the top fell off. | 0:19:32 | 0:19:35
The thing I like about Lindsey's | 0:19:35 | 0:19:36
is that I was doing very sort of sweeping branches, | 0:19:36 | 0:19:40
but Lindsey's done much more angular, stylised branches. | 0:19:40 | 0:19:43
-Jamie, thank you so much. -Thank you, Jamie. Cheers. -Thank you both. | 0:19:43 | 0:19:46
-We loved that. Can we take these home? -Yeah. | 0:19:46 | 0:19:48
I'm taking mine home, because I'm the real winner. | 0:19:48 | 0:19:51
That was so cool, that challenge. | 0:19:53 | 0:19:54
If you were wondering what happened to Lindsey's tree, it's here. | 0:19:54 | 0:19:58
-Oi! -Yeah, I left it in the studio for too long. -Barney! -I'm sorry. | 0:19:58 | 0:20:02
It wasn't my fault. | 0:20:02 | 0:20:03
Anyway, Christmas decorations, they're a huge part of Christmas. | 0:20:03 | 0:20:06
Not just the ones that are here in our studio, | 0:20:06 | 0:20:08
but the ones in your homes as well. | 0:20:08 | 0:20:10
One thing that we love about Christmas here is tradition. | 0:20:10 | 0:20:13
And what's been with us for nearly 50 years | 0:20:13 | 0:20:15
is this beautiful Nativity scene over here. | 0:20:15 | 0:20:18
Absolutely. Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus | 0:20:18 | 0:20:21
who Christians like myself believe to be the son of God. | 0:20:21 | 0:20:24
And here we have the Blue Peter Nativity scene. | 0:20:24 | 0:20:27
And in accordance with the Bible, we have Jesus' parents there, | 0:20:27 | 0:20:30
Mary and Joseph. | 0:20:30 | 0:20:32
We have the stable animals. | 0:20:32 | 0:20:34
We have the shepherds that came to visit him. | 0:20:34 | 0:20:36
And, again in accordance with the Bible, | 0:20:36 | 0:20:38
we have the Three Wise Men bearing their gifts | 0:20:38 | 0:20:41
of gold, frankincense and myrrh. | 0:20:41 | 0:20:44
And last, by no means least, the most important person of all. | 0:20:44 | 0:20:48
Baby Jesus in his manger. I'll place him just there. | 0:20:48 | 0:20:51
We hope you have a very, very happy Christmas. | 0:20:51 | 0:20:54
We've had a pretty action-packed year here on Blue Peter. | 0:20:56 | 0:20:59
You've been there for it all the way. | 0:20:59 | 0:21:01
-You might remember when I ran the London Marathon. -Awesome. | 0:21:01 | 0:21:04
As well as that, you saw Barney turn back time on Big Ben. | 0:21:04 | 0:21:07
And Radzi, of course, did the walk that changed the world. | 0:21:07 | 0:21:10
And some of the guests we've had in have been incredible. | 0:21:10 | 0:21:12
Olympic gymnast Beth Tweddle, the Vamps | 0:21:12 | 0:21:15
and, of course, the legend that is Morph. | 0:21:15 | 0:21:18
Love that episode. It was so awesome. | 0:21:18 | 0:21:20
2016 is set to be bigger and better. Yeah, he said it, people. | 0:21:20 | 0:21:23
Here's a sneak peak. | 0:21:23 | 0:21:25
One thing's guaranteed. We're going to have fun. | 0:21:27 | 0:21:30
-Action. -Maya is about to make her Wolfblood debut. | 0:21:35 | 0:21:39
Keep driving, keep driving. Keep driving. | 0:21:41 | 0:21:43
Woohoo! | 0:21:43 | 0:21:44
There is no way she's going to find me. | 0:21:46 | 0:21:48
This challenge is going to be... so tough. | 0:21:59 | 0:22:03
We're in LA! | 0:22:03 | 0:22:04
It absolutely hums down here. Urgh. | 0:22:06 | 0:22:09
Woohoo. | 0:22:13 | 0:22:15
-We are going to have fun. I'll high five to that. -Yes. | 0:22:15 | 0:22:17
-Got you. -Ohh. | 0:22:17 | 0:22:19
-Cannot wait! -It's going to be so good. | 0:22:19 | 0:22:21
-We have got a lot of fun coming up. I've just thought, guys. -Yeah? | 0:22:21 | 0:22:24
This is the last time we're going to all be together before Christmas. | 0:22:24 | 0:22:27
-Oh, yeah. -Ohh! -So, shall we open our presents? -Present time! | 0:22:27 | 0:22:30
-Me first. -Straight in there. -I think I know what it is. | 0:22:30 | 0:22:34
It's a pony! | 0:22:34 | 0:22:35
No, I know exactly what this is. This... | 0:22:35 | 0:22:38
My challenge involves getting back on the saddle of a bike. | 0:22:38 | 0:22:41
Only, this time, Radzi's going to be joining me. | 0:22:41 | 0:22:44
-It's going to be really tough. -I want to be next! -Go on, then. -OK. | 0:22:44 | 0:22:48
-I wonder what this could be. -I've got a surfboard. | 0:22:48 | 0:22:50
-He loves it! -I can't even get into it. Doesn't... | 0:22:50 | 0:22:54
Oh, look at this! It's a Blue Peter one. I'm going to get on it. | 0:22:54 | 0:22:57
Iggy, come quick. | 0:22:57 | 0:22:59
-I'm surfing. -I wonder what challenge that could be! -I wonder. | 0:22:59 | 0:23:02
Right, I'm going to go next. I've got a sparkly one here. "To Lindsey". | 0:23:02 | 0:23:05
And I think if I open it up, there should be something very exciting | 0:23:05 | 0:23:09
that gives you a clue about my next challenge. | 0:23:09 | 0:23:11
-Hamster ball. Hamster wheel there. You hold that. -What? | 0:23:11 | 0:23:14
And some armbands. I can't tell you any more than that. | 0:23:14 | 0:23:17
But it's going to be my toughest challenge yet. | 0:23:17 | 0:23:20
As well as that, Iggs... Are you ready for this? | 0:23:20 | 0:23:22
We've got Iggy a little treat. | 0:23:22 | 0:23:24
That's not cos she's doing a challenge. | 0:23:24 | 0:23:26
It's just cos we couldn't be prouder of her. | 0:23:26 | 0:23:28
So, I'm going to open this up for Iggy. Iggy! | 0:23:28 | 0:23:31
-Ohh! -Look at this. -It says her name. | 0:23:31 | 0:23:33
It's her very own little Iggy bowl. We'll put it there for you. | 0:23:33 | 0:23:36
She thinks there's water. There will be in a second. | 0:23:36 | 0:23:38
If you want to see any more from Iggy having fun at Christmas time, | 0:23:38 | 0:23:41
head online to the website, it's all there for you. | 0:23:41 | 0:23:44
Time for my favourite part of the show. | 0:23:44 | 0:23:46
It's time for a Christmas carol around our Christmas tree. | 0:23:46 | 0:23:49
If you know the words, join in. | 0:23:49 | 0:23:50
We'll be singing Hark! The Herald Angels Sing. | 0:23:50 | 0:23:53
-We won't be doing it alone. We've got a lot of help. -That's right. | 0:23:53 | 0:23:55
We're going to be joined by Temple and Beaver Road primary schools | 0:23:55 | 0:23:58
and Christ The King Catholic High School. | 0:23:58 | 0:24:01
We've got Stockton Wood, | 0:24:01 | 0:24:02
St Joseph's and St Christopher's primary schools. | 0:24:02 | 0:24:05
We're also going to be joined by the BBC North Staff Choir. | 0:24:05 | 0:24:07
The Central North Salvation Army band are leading them in. | 0:24:07 | 0:24:10
-I can hear them now. -Here we go. -I love this bit. -Oh, yes! | 0:24:10 | 0:24:14
