Rogue One.

Let's talk a bit about your character in the new Star Wars.

Is he a goodie or a baddie? It's kind of tough to work him out.

He's a rebel fighter that thinks that they're building

a weapon that can harm and destroy the universe, or destroy people.

And ultimately his philosophy of doing it by any means necessary,

no matter what it costs for him to do it,

that makes him move into a grey area.

so instead you've got a video about sprouts - cheer up!

Mate, I love Christmas, it is my favourite time of year.

Christmas dinners, though, even better.

Roast potatoes, crispy roast potatoes, cranberry, turkey...

You missed one out, the best ingredient on the plate

at Christmas... Sprouts.

Huh?

# It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas... #

Brussels sprouts - we've been eating them

for more than 400 years

and they are an essential part of Christmas dinner.

To find out how they end up on our tables at this time of year,

we've come to Berwickshire, to the biggest sprout farm in Europe!

I haven't seen this many sprouts in real life ever.

-It's a huge area, isn't it?

-It is, it's a very big area.

So, how many parts of Scotland have you covered in sprout?

-We've covered 900 acres in Scotland this year in sprouts.

-Wow!

And how many sprouts are we talking about here?

12.5 million plants and that's going

to generate about 700 million sprouts.

Wow-ow-how-how!

This place is huge!

And we're going to find out how they produce millions

of sprouts all in time for Christmas.

Tell you what, why don't you stay here? Cos this field

is off the charts and I'll go in the nice warm factory.

Yeah, great idea, I'll stay out here in the cold.

There's a theme happening here. Excuse me a sec. Radz...?

At one time, all these sprouts would have been picked by hand.

Now, though, machines share the load.

This looks like a serious piece of kit.

-So what is it we're actually doing?

-We're going along the rows...

-We're cutting the sprout at the bottom...

-Yeah.

And the lads are picking them up and putting them through

the stripping head. What that does is it strips

the sprouts from the stalk, so then we can take them to the factory.

All right, boys, my go.

In just a matter of seconds, this harvester takes the sprout plant,

chops it up and separates the little green balls we know and love.

These guys actually make it look very easy,

but it's actually quite hard to do.

It's amazing how technology can make things...

so much easier.

So, while I'm doing this down here, let's see how

Radzi is getting on in the factory.

Once picked, the sprouts head to a factory,

where they are tested to make sure they are good enough

to be sent all around the country.

So, we're going to get them put through our grading line,

to check out the size of the sprouts.

And we've got an amazing machine that's going to check out whether

they've got any little marks on them, any blemishes.

And the machine will kick those out right away.

After that, they come down the line and we're going to check what size

the sprouts are. We've got these rollers which are checking out

how big the sprouts are. And then that splits them up

into different sizes of sprouts, OK? We then get them

coming down onto the production lines, where we've got

a few extra people just to do the final check and then

it's ready to go into a pack, basically.

Only the most perfect sprouts will do

for the most important dinner of the year.

So I think I need to keep my eye

on some of these. You're welcome, Great Britain.

What do we think about this? Is that OK?

This one here... I think there might have been a little pest

that might have had a little nibble at this one.

So we're going to get rid of that, as well. Good one, yeah.

There are just so many sprouts.

All I can see is green, all I can see is Brussels sprouts.

And all I can think about is Christmas.

Think about this a little like Strictly Come Dancing,

only the very best make it all the way to Christmas.

So here we have the final product in a pack, ready to eat,

-there you go.

So that is how Brussels sprouts go from the field to your dinner table.

What a lovely informative day!

But it doesn't end there.

Because we're not leaving without a Christmas Challenge.

Barney and I will be going head-to-head to see

who can pick the most sprouts in just 30 seconds.

No machines, it will all be done by hand.

Only one thing for it. Slow-mo celebration.

So when you sit down to tuck into your Brussels sprouts

on Christmas Day, spare a thought for the amazing effort

that goes into getting them from field to fork.

Did you spot Shelley in amongst those Brussels sprouts?

Well, congratulations to Pink Sparkly Bunny, who was the very

first person to follow the clues online and find out where Shelley

has disappeared to. Now, Christmas on Blue Peter isn't all about

a massive Christmas tree or an amazingly decorated studio,

it's also about a 50-year-old Nativity scene

which you can see right here. Because Christmas is

all about celebrating the birth of Jesus, who Christians,

like myself, believe to be the Son of God.

And in our Nativity scene here, we can see Jesus' parents

Mary and Joseph. We can also see the animals who live in the stable.

We've got the shepherds who followed the star of Bethlehem to Jesus.

We have the Three Wise Men who carried their gifts

of gold, frankincense and myrrh. And the most important of them all -

baby Jesus, who goes right there.

And I hope Jesus is very comfortable.

In fact, I hope all of you, no matter what you're doing

to celebrate this festive season, you have a happy and healthy one.

-Radz, that's made me feel really festive.
