she just yet, because you've got to watch something first and, once

you've watched it, we'll then do a announcement that tells you more.

this puppy today has been so smiley

Blue Peter have a fantastic relationship with Guide Dogs UK

and 50 years ago, the presenters Chris and Valerie

got Honey the puppy

and trained her up to be a guide dog and now, five decades on,

it's time for me to have a go, and I've been catching up with

this little puppy over the last few weeks and seen what she's got up to.

Now, it's time for you to find out how we chose it.

PUPPIES CRY

This is the Guide Dogs for the Blind breeding centre,

and I've rushed here today because something very special is happening.

So, it's about nine in the morning, we've just got here

and Yvonne, the mum, has just had six puppies

and this is about to be number seven.

We've got Suzanne who's helping us today.

PUPPIES YELP

How is she doing, Suzanne? Is this it?

She's doing really well. There you go.

She's just having a couple of contractions to help the pup along.

We don't know if it'll be yellow or black.

She's had two yellow ones there and four black ones.

Good girl.

Come on, you can do it.

She's probably getting a bit tired, isn't she?

'An hour after the sixth puppy was born, it finally happened.

'The seventh puppy arrived and it was another yellow one.'

I'm just going to give him a little rub.

There we go.

Now, we're gentle, but we're quite rigorous...

..just to drain out any fluids.

They're so cute!

Hey, there's your mum.

I'm just going to give him a little weigh.

'Suzanne weighs the puppy to make sure it's healthy.'

I think she's about average. She's just over 0.4 of a kilo,

so, 0.41.

'Each puppy gets a special mark so that we can tell them all apart.

'This one's got a little pink heart.'

Well done, Mum.

So, Yvonne's doing really well.

She's had all seven of her puppies and they're really happy

and healthy, but she just needs help with that last puppy.

So, to get number eight out, she's going to be taken to the vet's

and get a bit of help there.

'Yvonne had two more puppies, but, sadly, only one survived.'

Well done.

The puppies are now four weeks old.

And this is where the puppies are playing

-and Suzanne's been looking after them. Hi, Suzanne.

-Hi, Lindsey.

-Hello, Yvonne.

-Come and meet Yvonne and her pups.

-Oh, my goodness!

-She's got eight little ones.

-Hello!

And how do you know they're doing really well and they're healthy?

They're all progressing as we would expect them to.

Their eyes and their ears are all starting to open now.

We, obviously, health check the pups every day just to make sure

there's no signs of ill health, and these guys are all fine.

Why is socialising really important and what exactly is it?

It's a really important part of the pup's development.

All a lot of fun, getting them used to anything

they might come in contact with out there in the big wide world.

OK, it's time to feed these little pups.

-Would you like to give us a hand?

-Absolutely. I'd love to. Let's go.

Go on!

He's licking the bowl clean.

Why is it important that they've each got their own bowl?

Just so we know that they're getting the right amount of feed

and that nobody's being a bit more greedy than the other one,

if we've got a slower eater.

I've had such a good time with these puppies

and I can't believe how much they've grown.

And we still don't know which one of these is

going to end up as our Blue Peter guide dog.

One more thing for you, Lindsey,

is these pups are going to be named with the letter I,

so all the litter will be starting with I,

and that's so that we can keep a track of their brothers and sisters,

and to see how they're all progressing and developing.

-I! That's actually quite a tricky one, isn't it?

-It is.

That's a hard letter. What can we have?

Um, Ivor, Ivan, Izzy, Igor...

-SHE GASPS

-Ian!

No. I don't think Ian.

The puppies are now about six weeks old and they are still super cute.

But, today, it's the puppy profiling assessment and, Dave, you're going

-to be assessing the puppies, aren't you?

-That's right.

Now, it sounds a bit complicated,

"puppy profiling assessment", but, really,

it's just a series of fun games and puppy tests, isn't it?

From the puppy's point of view, it's fun,

it's games they go through, so, they quite enjoy coming in here.

And you test them on a scale of one to seven, so what does that mean?

'What we're looking for is an ideal middle score, so if we're getting

'sevens, that means that they're perhaps a little bit too confident.'

-OK.

-If they're getting ones, they're perhaps a little bit too shy,

-so we want a nice middle score.

-Somewhere in the middle.

-Shall we get testing then?

-Let's do it.

-Come on.

So, what we're going to do, the first one here, if you'd like to do it,

Lindsey, is we're going to get you to walk down to the far end of the room.

I want to see how responsive the puppy is and whether it will

follow you confidently and come back with you.

Come on, puppy. Come on, well done.

-Well done.

-That's it and then back up again.

-Back again.

-Lovely.

-That was quite good, wasn't it?

That was more than good, that was really good, because she followed

you nice and confidently, so that gives us a nice even score of four.

'The games could be about how the pup reacts to a toy being thrown,

'or being called over a ramp,

'through a tunnel, or just a reaction to a sound.'

So, how did they get on?

They actually did really, really well.

And they're certainly all going to pass based on what we saw today.

We still don't know which one is our Blue Peter guide dog,

-so which one is it, Dave?

-I'll just check.

So, our new Blue Peter puppy is a very, very cute little girl,

but we still don't have a name, so we're going to have to get

back to the studio and find out what you're called.

So, you know it's a little girl and now I can reveal,

the Blue Peter guide dog's name is...

-Drum roll!

It's Iggy!

-Hey!

-Hello, Iggy!

She perked up there, didn't she? She heard her name.

She knows her name all right. Iggy, welcome to Blue Peter.

No Blue Peter dog would be complete without

their own Blue Peter badge and Iggy's got one right here,

and on the other side, it even says her name.

-She's giving it a sniff.

-She wants it.

Iggy, you're getting it. Is it in her mouth? It's in her mouth.

We're going to spend the next year getting to know Iggy a bit better.

She's going to be in the studio sometimes where

she gets used to the sights and sounds of telly world,

and eating her own collar, and we're going to be catching up

with how she's getting trained throughout the year as well.

That's right. Now, we want Iggy to be the best trainee guide dog

she possibly can be, so that, when she's older,

she can help to look after people who are visually impaired or blind.

Shall we go for our first studio walk after you've yawned?

-That was a yes.

-Come on. Steps are a bit big for you, aren't they, Iggy?

Over here, we've got Jane and her dog, Whitney, and we've got Rainbow

and his dog, Drake, and, of course, Richard, you're going to be helping

-me all through the Iggy process, aren't you?

putting a lead on her so she can have a little play down there.

Now, Jane, I'm going to talk to you first about your dog, Whitney.

Now, what does she mean to you?

Whitney means the world to me.

She's really my best friend and she helps guiding me to school

and guiding me to the local shop.

Has she made a real difference to your life, would you say?

She's opened a whole new world for me, like, before I had Whitney,

I couldn't even go to the local shop for me dad's papers.

Well, she's excited to be here and I can see why she's your best friend.

She's becoming Iggy's as well at the moment.

Now, talk to me about your dog, Rainbow.

It's called Drake and he's a buddy dog. So, what does that mean?

Um, it's a retired guide dog or a guide dog that hasn't made it.

OK, and what does that mean he does with you?

Do you have a good time together, you two?

Yeah, we go to the park and go to the beach.

And I hear you like audio tapes, is that right?

-Yeah.

-What does he like listening to together?

-The Famous Five.

-The Famous Five! I'm a huge Enid Blyton fan.

I really like that.

Now, Richard, Iggy's got a big year ahead of her, hasn't she?

-She certainly has.

-What is in store with her training?

Well, first of all, we're going to start off by showing her everything

in the environment that she's got to get used to as an adult dog.

-Including other dogs.

-Including other dogs, yeah.

Showing her public transport, cars, traffic, the whole thing really.

And then hopefully, in a year's time,

she'll turn out to be a beautiful dog like Whitney.

So, what can I do, specifically,

-to help Iggy be the best trainee dog she can be?

-Right.

-First of all, we're going to start off carrying her around.

-OK.

Showing her the town and city centre conditions, that sort of thing.

And we're going to get her to learn through play and positive reward.

This is the first year of her life and she's really got to enjoy it.

-She won't have a problem playing, will she?

-No, no...

Look, she's having a great time with Whitney there, isn't she?

She's very happy with Whitney, yes.

Now, guys, you are two of the first Blue Peter viewers to meet Iggy.

How would you describe her?

-Amazing. She's so cute.

-She is pretty cute, isn't she?

What about you, Rainbow? Do you like her?

Yeah, it's just tremendous.

She really is tremendous. She's a little ball of fluff and we

in the Blue Peter office thought this was absolutely whopper-tron!

You can probably spot a few straightaway, but this one here,

the gold Blue Peter Badge, just by me, that's the sun.

That was our World Cup special.

I love the World Cup. How good's it been?

I love the World Cup. It works out well this picture, because

she looks a bit like a tortoise and she's also playing football.

I nearly said turtle. That would have been the wrong thing to say!

Don't offend her, don't offend her!

So, Shelley, let's talk about Shelley.

She's a tortoise and she likes the World Cup too, doesn't she?

She's been making a prediction for one match on each of the days

in the World Cup, and the very first match she predicted was in

Brazil versus Croatia. She thought Brazil would win, and they won!

-Got off to a flyer.

-What a fine start.

And, tell me, Radzi, how did Shelley get on since then?

Not the best after that initial bit of good luck, as you can see.

So, I'll explain to you what you're seeing there.

So, any country highlighted in yellow,

they are countries which Shelley has selected.

The ticks and crosses tell you whether she got it right or not

and, as you can see, it's just nothing but crosses

after the first one and the matches weren't close.

5-1, Netherlands. 4-0, Cameroon and Croatia. 4-0, Germany, Portugal.

But we don't know the Uruguay, England prediction yet.

You'll have to go online to find that one out.

Shelley knows nothing about football or commentating for that matter.

When it comes to slow-movers, Shelley's up there, but, so am I.

Lindsey and I had a bit of a challenge recently

-and you have danced with Lindsey, so you know what it's all about.

-Yes.

I've danced against Lindsey with the cast of Next Step and,

I'll tell you what, that was tough. That was tough.

Well, I had to dance with Lindsey, and I was the leader, which she

found very difficult, this is the Lindy Hop.

We got entered into a competition. Yeah, it's funny.

I've been asked by Blue Peter to come to a dance studio in Manchester

to learn a very special dance routine.

It's very simple, really. You just go on one leg and do this!

Linds, what you doing?

The Lindsey Hop!

Right?

Barney!

Actually, Lindsey, it's called the Lindy Hop

and it became popular in the 1920s and 1930s.

That's why the men wear 1930s suits

and the girls wear skirts or dresses from that era.

The Lindy Hop is known for being a fast-paced, high energy dance

and these experts are Lindy Hop champions Ben and Robyn.

Looks snazzy!

You guys are absolutely amazing.

Ben and Robin, how long have you been Lindy Hopping?

About eight years.

I'm kind of rookie compared to some people.

I've only been going for three or four years.

You make it look effortless. How easy is it to learn, really?

To pick up the basics it's really simple.

We'll get you dancing in no time at all.

Yeah, just put a bit of character in it, have some fun,

and you'll be all right.

Character I can do, the dancing side of it I'm not so sure.

I've seen Barney dance, it's pretty horrific.

We know it's Blue Peter and we know we're learning this,

but there's got to be more to it, hasn't there?

There's a little bit more to it.

Coming up is the London Swing Festival

and there's a big competition called the London Jitterbug Championships,

and we thought we'd get you guys involved, get you entering

-one of the competitions on the night.

-OK, let's go.

'We couldn't put it off any longer - it was time to learn some moves.'

So, bend our legs a little.

That is one of the must fun evenings I've had for such a long time.

It's a very difficult dance to master but we came 7th out of 16!

I danced with the Next Step with you as well and that was tough,

R5 rocketed onto the music scene in 2009. Since then they've gone

from strength to strength,

wracking up over 30 million hits for their music online.

The pop rock band are made up members Ross, Riker, Rydel, Rocky,

and Ratliff - four siblings and one very good friend.

Earlier this year they were announced as winners

at the Radio Disney Music Awards

and in the past year they've toured 17 countries and sold out 50 shows.

It's a good time to be R5.

I've got to say, I love my brothers but I'm not sure

if I could be in a band with them.

Is there a lot of family rivalry?

Not really. We get along great.

I think we're the exact opposite of Oasis.

Yeah, that would be the exact opposite.

And what are you guys up to whilst you're here in the UK?

We're here to support a thing called Change For Life,

which is an affiliation with Disney.

Basically, we donated our song Loud

to help encourage people to basically get active.

It's a really cool thing.

We believe in it tremendously and we're really excited.

Talking about encouraging activity,

we've been asking the Blue Peter viewers to inspire someone they know

to do a sport they love and in return they get one of these,

my favourite of all the Blue Peter badges, the Sport Badge.

-Do you guys have a sport that you love?

-Can I have one?

-Do you want one?

-I would love one.

If you encourage someone to do your favourite sport you might get one.

Everybody should play ice hockey. Cos that's the best sport ever.

I think it would be cool to be able to play every musical instrument.

I think Pharrell would be a really cool collaboration.

Just because he's got a lot of history, he's had a lot of hits.

And a lot of cool bands that he's worked with.
