I'm trying on this tiara as next week

I'm off to the Perfect Princess Finishing School.

There are lessons there to teach you absolutely everything, like...

how to drink your juice properly without spilling it down your top.

Which I haven't done today, yet.

And there's a special class to make sure that you sit properly

and listen to lots of stories.

You'll like that, won't you?

So will I.

But I need to make sure my tiara fits otherwise they won't let me in.

I really need someone to help me.

Oh! I know who might be able to help!

Princess Smartypants.

She's in tonight's bedtime story.

It's by Babette Cole

and it's called Princess Smartypants Breaks The Rules.

"Just look at you, Princess Smartypants!"

said her mother, the Queen.

"You'll never get a prince like that.

"You are going to the Fairy Princess Finishing School

"to learn how to behave properly."

Princess Smartypants went to see her father.

"Must I really go, Daddy?"

"Your mother will give you a hard time if you don't," said Kingy.

"Uh, I'll have to give it a try then," said Smartypants.

Her arrival at Madame Twinkle-Botham's

Academy For Fairy Princesses caused quite a stir.

"I know a troublemaker when I see one", scolded Madame Twinkle-Botham.

"Look at my girls. That wretched dragon spooked their coaches,

"and most of them ended up in the moat.

"Your lessons start...now.

"Day one, hair and make-up.

"Day two, deportment and fashion sense.

"Day three, weaving and spinning your golden tresses long enough

"so that day four, the princes can climb up them.

"Day five, flying and wand-waving.

"You are being deliberately disruptive, Smartypants,"

growled Madame Twinkle-Botham.

"That's one week's detention in the dungeons."

So Princess Smartypants called her next-door ogre, Cyril Sledgehammer.

He soon got her out.

"We want to be a cool princess like you," said her classmates.

"We're bored with being fairy princesses."

"OK," said Princess Smartypants.

"Lesson one, stop waiting for a bunch of Hooray Henries

"to turn up and save you.

"Lesson two, learn to govern your own kingdom.

"Lesson three, you're going to need some muscle some time,

"so get those beasties on your side."

Just then Madame Twinkle-Botham burst in.

"What are you doing now, Smartypants?"

"Lesson four," continued Princess Smartypants.

"Wands do a bit more than just wave."

"Oh, you're all expelled!"

squeaked the new Madame Twinkle-Botham.

"And most importantly," laughed Princess Smartypants,

"lesson five, let's break all the rules."

ROCK MUSIC

And so they all lived happily ever after.

And that story was called Princess Smartypants Breaks The Rules.

You know,

maybe Princess Smartypants would like those sunglasses.

While I go and get them it's time for you to go to bed.
