Sky. | 0:00:07 | 0:00:08 | |
I know there are clouds in the sky, | 0:00:08 | 0:00:11
but we want to know how high the sky is. | 0:00:11 | 0:00:14
Oh, hello. I'm David. | 0:00:14 | 0:00:16
Can you see the sky? | 0:00:16 | 0:00:18
What colour is it? | 0:00:18 | 0:00:20
The penguins and I have been looking to find out more about the sky. | 0:00:20 | 0:00:26
We know it can be blue. Or white or grey. | 0:00:26 | 0:00:29
Or black, when it's time to go to bed. | 0:00:29 | 0:00:31
And you can see clouds and stars, but I can't find out how high it is. | 0:00:31 | 0:00:37
Do you know? | 0:00:37 | 0:00:38
Pipkin, in tonight's story wants to know, too. | 0:00:38 | 0:00:42
This story is by Anna Milbourne and Serena Riglietti. | 0:00:42 | 0:00:46
And it's called, How High Is The Sky? | 0:00:46 | 0:00:49
Pipkin was a very small penguin, | 0:00:49 | 0:00:52
he was always asking very big questions. | 0:00:52 | 0:00:56
"Why are snowflakes cold? | 0:00:56 | 0:00:58
"How deep is the sea? | 0:00:58 | 0:00:59
"Does the sun go to bed at night?" | 0:00:59 | 0:01:02
But the thing he wanted to know most of all was - | 0:01:02 | 0:01:05
how high is the sky? | 0:01:05 | 0:01:09
"Why don't you fly up and see for yourself?" | 0:01:09 | 0:01:12
squawked a wandering albatross. | 0:01:12 | 0:01:14
"I'm a penguin," said Pipkin. "Penguins can't fly!" | 0:01:14 | 0:01:18
"Oh, dear," said the albatross. | 0:01:18 | 0:01:20
"Well, I'll take you, if you like?" | 0:01:20 | 0:01:23
"Yes, please," said Pipkin. | 0:01:23 | 0:01:26
They flew up past a flock of birds and up into the blue, | 0:01:26 | 0:01:30
but the sky was much too high to touch. | 0:01:30 | 0:01:33
"Flying is fun," said Pipkin. | 0:01:33 | 0:01:35
"But I still don't know the answer, how high is the sky?" | 0:01:35 | 0:01:40
"I don't know!" panted the albatross. | 0:01:40 | 0:01:42
"This is as high as I can go." | 0:01:42 | 0:01:45
"I can go higher!" called a passing hot air balloonist. | 0:01:45 | 0:01:49
"I'll take you, if you like?" | 0:01:49 | 0:01:51
"Yes, please!" said Pipkin. | 0:01:51 | 0:01:53
They floated past some fluffy clouds. | 0:01:53 | 0:01:56
Pipkin tried to catch one, but his lasso went through. | 0:01:56 | 0:02:00
The ground was very far away, | 0:02:00 | 0:02:02
but the sky didn't look any closer. | 0:02:02 | 0:02:05
"Ballooning is wonderful," said Pipkin. | 0:02:05 | 0:02:08
"But I still don't know the answer, how high is the sky?" | 0:02:08 | 0:02:12
"I don't know," the balloonist shrugged. | 0:02:12 | 0:02:15
"This is as high as I can go." | 0:02:15 | 0:02:17
"I can go higher," said a passing astronaut. "I'll take you." | 0:02:17 | 0:02:22
"Yes, please!" said Pipkin. | 0:02:22 | 0:02:25
They flew up and up. | 0:02:25 | 0:02:27
And up and up. | 0:02:27 | 0:02:29
To where the blue turned into deep, black space. | 0:02:29 | 0:02:33
And silver stars shone all around. | 0:02:33 | 0:02:35
They flew on until they reached the moon. | 0:02:35 | 0:02:39
They landed the rocket, moon-walked around and looked up at the stars. | 0:02:39 | 0:02:44
"The stars are in the sky too," said Pipkin. | 0:02:44 | 0:02:47
"They're further than the moon!" | 0:02:47 | 0:02:50
"I still don't know the answer, how high is the sky?" | 0:02:50 | 0:02:54
"I don't know," said the astronaut. "This is as high as I can go." | 0:02:54 | 0:02:59
Pipkin was already so high, he couldn't see his mama | 0:02:59 | 0:03:03
and his igloo and he couldn't see the South Pole. | 0:03:03 | 0:03:06
He was ever so far away. | 0:03:06 | 0:03:09
"Perhaps it's time to go home," said Pipkin. | 0:03:09 | 0:03:12
So they did just that. | 0:03:12 | 0:03:14
Pipkin said to his mama, "I flew up past the birds | 0:03:14 | 0:03:18
"and up past the clouds and up past the blueness | 0:03:18 | 0:03:21
"and all the way to the moon! But the sky just kept on going. | 0:03:21 | 0:03:26
"I think I know the answer now," said Pipkin. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:29
"The sky goes on forever." | 0:03:29 | 0:03:32
Pipkin's mama tucked him into bed. | 0:03:32 | 0:03:34
"So that means there's plenty more to explore another day," she said. | 0:03:34 | 0:03:39
"Sweet dreams, my little Pip." | 0:03:39 | 0:03:43
And that story was called, How High Is The Sky? | 0:03:43 | 0:03:48
So, that's the answer - the sky goes on and on and on. | 0:03:48 | 0:03:53
Well, just like Pipkin, it's time for you to go to bed now. | 0:03:53 | 0:03:57
And have sweet dreams. | 0:03:57 | 0:03:59
I'll see you soon for another story. Night, night. | 0:03:59 | 0:04:03
No. No, I know. I know you're penguins and you can't fly, | 0:04:03 | 0:04:07
but maybe you can go on an adventure like Pipkin tomorrow. Hmm? | 0:04:07 | 0:04:11
