A rabbit lives in a warren. | 0:29:09 | 0:29:12
Where does a fox live? | 0:29:12 | 0:29:15
Oh, hello. I'm Toby. | 0:29:15 | 0:29:18
In tonight's bedtime story, Little Fox is looking for a new home | 0:29:18 | 0:29:22
and it's called A New Home For Little Fox, | 0:29:22 | 0:29:26
by Janet Bingham and Rosalind Beardshaw. | 0:29:26 | 0:29:30
Little Fox was making music. | 0:29:30 | 0:29:32
"La, la, la," he sang. | 0:29:32 | 0:29:35
"Shhh," said Daddy Fox. "Listen." | 0:29:35 | 0:29:38
Little Fox stopped singing. | 0:29:38 | 0:29:41
-WHISTLES -..Sang the trees, sweetly. | 0:29:41 | 0:29:44
"What's that?" asked Little Fox. "Is the tree making music too?" | 0:29:44 | 0:29:49
"It's Mrs Finch," replied Daddy Fox. | 0:29:49 | 0:29:51
"She's singing her nest-building song." | 0:29:51 | 0:29:54
"Can I see?" asked Little Fox. | 0:29:54 | 0:29:57
Daddy Fox lifted him up, higher and higher, | 0:29:57 | 0:30:00
until he could see the little twiggy nest. | 0:30:00 | 0:30:03
-Just then, a nut landed... -CLICKS TONGUE | 0:30:03 | 0:30:06
..on Little Fox's head. | 0:30:06 | 0:30:08
"Whoops," chuckled Daddy Fox. | 0:30:08 | 0:30:10
"That's the trouble with trees, things drop out of them." | 0:30:10 | 0:30:14
"It's Squirrel," said Little Fox. "Is she building a nest too?" | 0:30:14 | 0:30:19
"She's spring cleaning," said Daddy Fox. | 0:30:19 | 0:30:22
"Everyone starts thinking about their nests and dens in the spring. | 0:30:22 | 0:30:27
"They make new ones or tidy up their old ones." | 0:30:27 | 0:30:30
"We can make a new home too," said Little Fox. | 0:30:30 | 0:30:33
"Let's build a nest high up in the tree." | 0:30:33 | 0:30:36
"Trees are too high," smiled Daddy Fox. | 0:30:36 | 0:30:39
"They wobble and sway. We might fall out of them like nuts." | 0:30:39 | 0:30:43
"I don't want to fall like a nut, but it's fun to roll like one," | 0:30:43 | 0:30:47
giggles Little Fox, and away they tumbled, straight into a bush. | 0:30:47 | 0:30:52
"Oh!" groaned Daddy Fox. "I'm seeing stars." | 0:30:52 | 0:30:57
"They're not stars, they're butterflies," laughed Little Fox. | 0:30:57 | 0:31:01
"Let's make our new home here, in the butterfly flowers." | 0:31:01 | 0:31:05
He leaned over to smell the blossom and yelped, "Ouch! Prickles!" | 0:31:05 | 0:31:11
Daddy Fox hugged him. | 0:31:11 | 0:31:13
"It wouldn't be very comfortable to live here," he said. | 0:31:13 | 0:31:16
Little Fox scampered ahead. "Daddy, I found a mouse's house," | 0:31:16 | 0:31:21
he whispered. "Perhaps we could live down here." | 0:31:21 | 0:31:24
"We're too big and noisy," Daddy Fox whispered back. | 0:31:24 | 0:31:28
"We'd spoil mouse's hideaway." But Little Fox wasn't listening. | 0:31:28 | 0:31:33
A dragonfly skimmed past his nose and he was off, | 0:31:33 | 0:31:37
chasing and racing over the soft grass. | 0:31:37 | 0:31:40
Daddy Fox caught up with him at the stream. | 0:31:40 | 0:31:43
"This is where fish live," said Daddy Fox. | 0:31:43 | 0:31:46
Little Fox dabbled at the water. | 0:31:46 | 0:31:49
"I'm glad I don't live in here," he said. | 0:31:49 | 0:31:51
"It's wet, cold and runny." "Like your nose," teased Daddy Fox. | 0:31:51 | 0:31:56
Little Fox splashed him. "Like your nose," he giggled. | 0:31:56 | 0:32:01
All of a sudden, a dome of crumbly earth popped up | 0:32:01 | 0:32:04
with a little pink nose poking out of the top. | 0:32:04 | 0:32:07
"What is it?" asked Little Fox. "It's Mr Mole," said Daddy Fox. | 0:32:07 | 0:32:12
"He's tiding his tunnels." | 0:32:12 | 0:32:14
Mr Mole's nose disappeared back into the molehill. | 0:32:14 | 0:32:18
"I wouldn't want to live down there," said Little Fox. | 0:32:18 | 0:32:22
"It's too dark for me," and off he ran to the meadow. | 0:32:22 | 0:32:26
"Look," said Daddy Fox. "Rabbit holes and lots of rabbits." | 0:32:26 | 0:32:30
"One, two, three," counted Little Fox. "I can see ten." | 0:32:30 | 0:32:35
"It must be very crowded in their house," said Daddy Fox. | 0:32:35 | 0:32:39
"Come on, it's time to go," and they raced away towards home. | 0:32:39 | 0:32:44
Little Fox peered into their den. | 0:32:44 | 0:32:47
"Our home might get crowded too," he frowned. "It looks very small." | 0:32:47 | 0:32:52
"That's because you've grown so big," laughed Daddy Fox. | 0:32:52 | 0:32:56
"It's time for us to move to a new home now," | 0:32:56 | 0:32:59
and that's just what they did. | 0:32:59 | 0:33:01
They dug and dug all afternoon, until at last they were finished. | 0:33:01 | 0:33:07
"I'm glad our new home isn't high up in a tree or in a prickly bush," | 0:33:07 | 0:33:11
said Little Fox. "Or in a cold, wet stream, or a mouse's house, | 0:33:11 | 0:33:16
"or a dark molehill." | 0:33:16 | 0:33:17
"Or in a busy rabbit warren," smiled Daddy Fox. | 0:33:17 | 0:33:22
That night, Little Fox peeped out of their newly dug den. | 0:33:22 | 0:33:26
"This home is just right," he sighed happily. | 0:33:26 | 0:33:29
"Yes," agreed Daddy Fox, hugging him close. | 0:33:29 | 0:33:33
"It's the best home of all, for me and my own little fox." | 0:33:33 | 0:33:39
So, a fox lives in a cosy den. | 0:33:40 | 0:33:45
It's now time for you to go to sleep. | 0:33:45 | 0:33:48
I'll see you soon for another bedtime story. Night, night. | 0:33:48 | 0:33:52
So a bird must live in a nest. | 0:33:52 | 0:33:57
