Hello, I'm Alex. | 0:22:08 | 0:22:10
Do you like dancing? | 0:22:10 | 0:22:12
There's lots of music and dance in our bedtime story. | 0:22:12 | 0:22:16
The story is called Everybody Knows That Goats Don't Dance, | 0:22:16 | 0:22:21
and it's by Alicia Potter and Ethan Long. | 0:22:21 | 0:22:25
Not many goats danced the fandango, but George did. | 0:22:25 | 0:22:31
He danced beneath the fir trees. He danced amongst the heather. | 0:22:31 | 0:22:35
He danced atop his favourite rock. | 0:22:35 | 0:22:39
He loved the sound of his hooves. Clip, clip, clippity clop. | 0:22:39 | 0:22:43
The other goats snickered. | 0:22:43 | 0:22:46
They snorted, they laughed their tails off. | 0:22:46 | 0:22:50
Their snickers hurt George's ears. | 0:22:50 | 0:22:53
Their snorts made his hooves feel heavy. | 0:22:53 | 0:22:56
Like they'd lost their clip and their clop. | 0:22:56 | 0:22:59
"I don't belong in this herd," he said. | 0:23:00 | 0:23:04
"I need to find some dancing goats." | 0:23:04 | 0:23:07
George imagined all the clipping. He imagined all the clopping. | 0:23:07 | 0:23:11
He imagined his pick of partners. | 0:23:11 | 0:23:14
"Some day," thought George, "I'll find my herd." | 0:23:15 | 0:23:20
His heart fandangoed with hope. | 0:23:20 | 0:23:22
So, one morning, when the sun was so bright | 0:23:22 | 0:23:26
and the fields so buttercuppy, George couldn't stop his hooves. | 0:23:26 | 0:23:31
He danced over the stile, across the pasture | 0:23:31 | 0:23:35
and past the stream | 0:23:35 | 0:23:37
until he couldn't hear a single snicker or snort or laugh. | 0:23:37 | 0:23:41
In a meadow, he came upon a sheep named Liesl. | 0:23:41 | 0:23:46
"Excuse me," said George, | 0:23:46 | 0:23:49
"but do you know any goats who dance the fandango?" | 0:23:49 | 0:23:53
"The fan-what-o?" asked Liesl . | 0:23:53 | 0:23:56
"The fandango," said George. He showed her a few steps. | 0:23:56 | 0:24:01
Clip, clip, clippity clop. | 0:24:01 | 0:24:04
"Nope," said Liesl, "but I yodel." | 0:24:04 | 0:24:08
"Yodel-eh-he-heee! Yodelly yodelly ho-hoo!" | 0:24:08 | 0:24:13
"It's no fandango," she said, "but I like it. | 0:24:13 | 0:24:17
"The head ewe said it turned her stomachs, all four of them. | 0:24:17 | 0:24:21
"And so I left the flock." | 0:24:21 | 0:24:24
"Come with me," George said. | 0:24:24 | 0:24:27
"I'd like the company while I find a new herd." | 0:24:27 | 0:24:31
"I'd be happy to," said Liesl. | 0:24:31 | 0:24:35
George and Liesl shambled down ravines and gambolled up hills. | 0:24:35 | 0:24:40
On the next Alp, they came upon a dog named Max, | 0:24:40 | 0:24:43
dozing in the shade. | 0:24:43 | 0:24:45
"Excuse me," said George, | 0:24:45 | 0:24:48
"but do you know any goats who dance the fandango?" | 0:24:48 | 0:24:52
"Fan-who?" asked Max. | 0:24:52 | 0:24:55
"The fandango." George showed him a few steps. | 0:24:55 | 0:24:58
Clip, clip, clippity clop. | 0:24:58 | 0:25:01
"No," said Max, "but let me show you something." | 0:25:01 | 0:25:06
He returned with a strange musical instrument. | 0:25:06 | 0:25:10
"I play the glockenspiel," said Max. | 0:25:10 | 0:25:14
Ping ping-a-ling ding! | 0:25:14 | 0:25:17
"It's no fandango," said Max, "but it suits me." | 0:25:17 | 0:25:21
"Unfortunately, my shepherd said it distracts the flock." | 0:25:21 | 0:25:26
"Come with us," George said. "We need some help finding my herd." | 0:25:26 | 0:25:32
"At your service," said Max. | 0:25:32 | 0:25:35
George, Liesl and Max, loped through pastures. | 0:25:35 | 0:25:39
They climbed and climbed and they practised. | 0:25:39 | 0:25:44
Clip, clip, clippity clop. | 0:25:44 | 0:25:46
Yodel-eh-he-hoo! | 0:25:46 | 0:25:49
Ping ping-a-ling ding! | 0:25:49 | 0:25:51
They encountered many goats, but not one danced the Hokey Cokey, | 0:25:51 | 0:25:56
never mind the fandango. | 0:25:56 | 0:25:59
One day, George wandered off, alone and sad, | 0:25:59 | 0:26:02
to the other side of the hill. | 0:26:02 | 0:26:05
"There must be something we can do," said Max. | 0:26:05 | 0:26:09
"Yes," said Liesl, "but what?" | 0:26:09 | 0:26:11
Liesl and Max thought about all the goats they'd ever met. | 0:26:11 | 0:26:15
They thought about the most musical beasts they knew. | 0:26:15 | 0:26:19
"There's you," said Max. "And you," replied Liesl. | 0:26:19 | 0:26:24
"But we've never danced the fandango." | 0:26:24 | 0:26:28
George sighed. | 0:26:28 | 0:26:30
"Will I ever find my herd? Am I destined to dance alone?" | 0:26:30 | 0:26:36
His hooves felt heavy, | 0:26:36 | 0:26:39
like they'd lost their clip and their clop. | 0:26:39 | 0:26:43
But soon, George began to miss more than a dancing partner. | 0:26:43 | 0:26:49
He missed Liesl and Max. | 0:26:50 | 0:26:52
Just then, a sound wafted to George's ears. | 0:26:52 | 0:26:57
It was the sound of hooves. Dancing hooves. | 0:26:57 | 0:27:02
"Could it be?" whispered George. | 0:27:02 | 0:27:05
George galloped up, up, up the hill. | 0:27:05 | 0:27:09
At the top he found... | 0:27:09 | 0:27:12
..Liesl and Max dancing the fandango. | 0:27:12 | 0:27:15
"How did you learn to dance like that?" asked George. | 0:27:16 | 0:27:20
"We watched you so often..." panted Max, | 0:27:20 | 0:27:23
"We taught ourselves," finished Liesl. | 0:27:23 | 0:27:27
George, Max and Liesl fandangoed like there was no tomorrow. | 0:27:27 | 0:27:32
They clip, clip, clippity clopped. | 0:27:32 | 0:27:35
They yodel-eh-he-hooed. | 0:27:35 | 0:27:38
They even took turns ping-ping-a-linging, | 0:27:38 | 0:27:42
on Max's glockenspiel. | 0:27:42 | 0:27:44
The trio might quite a noise on the buttercuppy hills. | 0:27:44 | 0:27:48
George sighed. | 0:27:48 | 0:27:50
"Finally, I've found my herd." he said. | 0:27:52 | 0:27:58
His heart fandangoed with joy. | 0:27:58 | 0:28:01
I think George could dance with happiness all night. | 0:28:04 | 0:28:08
But it's time for bed. | 0:28:08 | 0:28:10
So, it's time to put away my ballet shoes. | 0:28:10 | 0:28:14
Night-night. Happy dreaming. | 0:28:18 | 0:28:21
