CBeebies Bedtime Story.

0:37:030:37:06

One...two...three!

0:37:070:37:11

Abracadabra!

0:37:110:37:15

No.

0:37:150:37:17

Oh, hello. I'm Shobna.

0:37:170:37:20

I want to turn the CBeebies rug into a magical flying carpet

0:37:200:37:25

but my spell isn't working.

0:37:250:37:27

Maybe if I try another one. Let's try this one.

0:37:270:37:31

One...two...three... Alakazam!

0:37:310:37:36

No, that hasn't worked. Maybe tonight's story might help.

0:37:360:37:40

It's by Valerie Thomas and Korky Paul

0:37:400:37:42

and is called Winnie's Flying Carpet.

0:37:420:37:45

Winnie the Witch was busy writing letters.

0:37:450:37:48

They were thank you letters for her birthday presents.

0:37:480:37:51

There was only one left - the trickiest letter.

0:37:510:37:54

Winnie's sisters, Wilma, Wanda and Wendy,

0:37:540:37:57

had given her a flying carpet.

0:37:570:37:59

Winnie had always wanted a flying carpet

0:37:590:38:02

but this flying carpet had been a disappointment.

0:38:020:38:05

Actually, it had been a disaster.

0:38:050:38:08

There was the time it got tangled in Winnie's washing.

0:38:080:38:11

the day it tipped over at the duck pond.

0:38:110:38:15

And then, one day, it turned a corner too quickly.

0:38:150:38:18

After that, Winnie rolled up the carpet, tied it with string,

0:38:180:38:23

put it in the broom cupboard and locked the door.

0:38:230:38:27

But Winnie wanted to write something nice about the carpet

0:38:270:38:31

in her letter.

0:38:310:38:32

She unlocked the cupboard, untied the carpet

0:38:320:38:35

and spread it onto the armchair.

0:38:350:38:38

"It's a beautiful carpet," she thought.

0:38:380:38:41

"It seems a pity not to use it."

0:38:410:38:43

So, Winnie decided to give it one more chance.

0:38:430:38:47

Just then, the doorbell rang.

0:38:470:38:48

Ding dong!

0:38:480:38:50

Winnie hurried off to answer it

0:38:500:38:53

just as Wilbur came inside.

0:38:530:38:56

After a busy morning climbing trees and chasing butterflies,

0:38:560:39:00

he was ready for his sleep.

0:39:000:39:03

The sun was shining on the flying carpet.

0:39:030:39:05

It looked so warm and comfortable.

0:39:050:39:08

Wilbur jumped up and, in one minute, he was snoring.

0:39:080:39:11

The flying carpet waited one more minute

0:39:110:39:15

then it rose gently into the air. Wilbur didn't wake up.

0:39:150:39:19

It flew gently round the room. Wilbur didn't wake up.

0:39:190:39:24

Then it zoomed out of the window!

0:39:240:39:26

-MIAOW!

-Wilbur woke up.

0:39:260:39:29

"Miaow!" he cried. Winnie heard him. She looked up just in time

0:39:290:39:34

to see the flying carpet zoom up into the sky.

0:39:340:39:38

"Oh, no!" cried Winnie.

0:39:380:39:39

She grabbed her magic wand and her broomstick

0:39:390:39:43

and zoomed up into the sky after them.

0:39:430:39:46

Winnie flew as fast as her broomstick could go

0:39:460:39:49

but the carpet was faster.

0:39:490:39:51

It swooped over the clock tower and under a bridge.

0:39:510:39:55

Winnie followed it.

0:39:550:39:56

"Hang on tight, Wilbur!" she called. "Miaow!" cried Wilbur.

0:39:560:40:01

Then the carpet flew over a funfair. What fun!

0:40:010:40:04

First, it whizzed down the Roller Coaster Rocket.

0:40:040:40:07

Winnie whizzed down behind it.

0:40:070:40:09

Then it tried the Terrible Twister.

0:40:090:40:12

The carpet was having a wonderful time.

0:40:120:40:14

Wilbur was having a horrible time!

0:40:140:40:17

Winnie was worried. She would never catch them.

0:40:170:40:20

Then she had an idea. She waved a magic wand, shouted "Abracadabra!"

0:40:200:40:26

And everything stopped.

0:40:270:40:29

Nothing whizzed or zoomed or shrieked or splashed.

0:40:290:40:33

All was still. Including the flying carpet.

0:40:330:40:37

Wilbur jumped onto Winnie's shoulder.

0:40:370:40:40

"Prrr! Prrr!" he said.

0:40:400:40:43

Then Winnie rolled up the flying carpet.

0:40:430:40:46

"Let's go home, Wilbur," she said. "By broomstick!"

0:40:460:40:50

Winnie waved her magic wand backwards.

0:40:500:40:53

"Abracadabra!" she shouted and everything started again.

0:40:530:40:58

Whee! Zoom! Whizz! Vroom!

0:40:580:41:01

Winnie and Wilbur landed in Winnie's garden.

0:41:010:41:05

Winnie frowned at the flying carpet. What would she do with it?

0:41:050:41:09

Then Winnie had a wonderful idea.

0:41:090:41:12

She shut her eyes and waved her wand.

0:41:120:41:16

"Abracadabra!"

0:41:160:41:19

And there, tied to two trees, was a beautiful hammock.

0:41:190:41:24

Winnie and Wilbur climbed in. They were both very tired.

0:41:240:41:29

The hammock rocked gently in the breeze.

0:41:290:41:32

"This is so comfortable, Wilbur," said Winnie.

0:41:320:41:35

But Wilbur didn't hear. He was already fast asleep.

0:41:350:41:39

And that story was called Winnie's Flying Carpet.

0:41:400:41:44

Hmm, well, maybe a flying carpet isn't such a good idea, after all.

0:41:440:41:50

I wonder if I can try any other spells.

0:41:500:41:54

And while I do, it's time for you to go to sleep.

0:41:540:41:57

Just like Wilbur. I'll see you soon for another story.

0:41:570:42:03

Na-night.

0:42:030:42:04

Now, let's see what other spell I can do.
