Now, who's the smallest? | 0:12:06 | 0:12:08
It's not you. | 0:12:08 | 0:12:10
Hello, I'm Sally. | 0:12:10 | 0:12:13
I'm trying to line these bears up in order of size. | 0:12:13 | 0:12:17
Tiny Ted, you can go to the front of the line. | 0:12:17 | 0:12:21
It doesn't matter how big or small you are, | 0:12:21 | 0:12:24
everyone can have big adventures, | 0:12:24 | 0:12:26
and that's what tonight's bedtime story is all about. | 0:12:26 | 0:12:30
It's called The Big Adventure Of The Smalls | 0:12:30 | 0:12:33
and it's by Helen Stephens. | 0:12:33 | 0:12:35
Paul and Sally Small live at Small Hall. | 0:12:37 | 0:12:42
Only Small Hall isn't very small. | 0:12:42 | 0:12:45
It's huge! | 0:12:45 | 0:12:47
There are clocks as tall as trees... | 0:12:47 | 0:12:51
and plates as big as wheels, | 0:12:51 | 0:12:54
and there's always something special going on. | 0:12:54 | 0:12:58
It was an especially special night. | 0:12:58 | 0:13:01
It was the night of the Small Hall Grand Ball | 0:13:01 | 0:13:05
and everyone was very busy getting ready. | 0:13:05 | 0:13:08
But the only thing that Paul and Sally Small | 0:13:08 | 0:13:12
were getting ready for was bed. | 0:13:12 | 0:13:15
"Goodnight, little Smalls" said Mum and Dad. | 0:13:15 | 0:13:19
As they lay in the dark, | 0:13:19 | 0:13:21
Paul and Sally could hear the first guests arriving. | 0:13:21 | 0:13:25
"I want to see!" said Sally. | 0:13:25 | 0:13:28
They crept to the top of the stairs. | 0:13:28 | 0:13:31
Lady Pom-Pom their dog came, too. | 0:13:31 | 0:13:35
Paul held up his teddy Mr Puddles | 0:13:35 | 0:13:37
so he could see the party starting downstairs. | 0:13:37 | 0:13:41
"He'll fall," warned Sally. | 0:13:41 | 0:13:43
But it was too late. | 0:13:43 | 0:13:45
Mr Puddles tumbled through the banisters. | 0:13:45 | 0:13:48
"Uh-oh!" cried Paul. | 0:13:48 | 0:13:52
"What shall we do?" said Sally. | 0:13:52 | 0:13:55
"Go, go, go!" said Paul. | 0:13:55 | 0:13:57
So that's exactly what they did. | 0:13:57 | 0:14:00
Whoosh! They slid down the banister | 0:14:00 | 0:14:03
and landed bump at the bottom. | 0:14:03 | 0:14:05
"Quick!" said Sally. "Before anybody sees us." | 0:14:05 | 0:14:10
They peeked into the party, looking for Mr Puddles. | 0:14:10 | 0:14:14
"The suit of armour can be our look-out," said Sally. | 0:14:14 | 0:14:18
"Come on! I can't see Mr Puddles here," whispered Sally. | 0:14:18 | 0:14:23
"Follow me." | 0:14:23 | 0:14:25
And they sneaked through the corridor towards a tiny secret door | 0:14:25 | 0:14:29
hidden in the wall and up into a secret passageway. | 0:14:29 | 0:14:34
It was dark and spooky inside | 0:14:34 | 0:14:37
and Sally shone her torch around. | 0:14:37 | 0:14:40
"Uh-oh!" said Paul. | 0:14:40 | 0:14:42
"It's all right, it's only a dusty old bear," said Sally. | 0:14:42 | 0:14:47
"I can't see Mr Puddles here. Come on." | 0:14:47 | 0:14:50
They crawled along the passageway until finally, | 0:14:50 | 0:14:54
out they popped in the kitchen. | 0:14:54 | 0:14:56
Mrs Goggins the cook was just putting something in the oven. | 0:14:56 | 0:15:00
"Quick!" said Sally. "Hide!" | 0:15:00 | 0:15:03
She lifted the lid of an enormous silver dish. | 0:15:03 | 0:15:07
It was full of cakes. | 0:15:07 | 0:15:09
Paul and Sally had just hopped in and put a cake in their mouths | 0:15:09 | 0:15:14
when the silver dish began to rock and sway. | 0:15:14 | 0:15:18
"Uh-oh!" said Paul. | 0:15:18 | 0:15:21
"Wow!" whispered Sally. | 0:15:21 | 0:15:24
PEOPLE CHATTER | 0:15:24 | 0:15:28
The waiter lifted the lid of the silver dish | 0:15:28 | 0:15:31
and Paul and Sally darted out | 0:15:31 | 0:15:34
and disguised themselves as a vase of flowers. | 0:15:34 | 0:15:37
Then a candelabra, then as quick as a flash, | 0:15:37 | 0:15:41
they shimmied up the statue to get a proper view. | 0:15:41 | 0:15:45
"Whee!" said Paul. | 0:15:45 | 0:15:48
"I think Mr Puddles is this way," shouted Sally. | 0:15:48 | 0:15:51
And on the next swing, they climbed down the curtains | 0:15:51 | 0:15:55
and hid under the table. | 0:15:55 | 0:15:57
And there was Mr Puddles. | 0:15:57 | 0:16:00
"Lady Pom-Pom!" Sally said. | 0:16:00 | 0:16:02
"Give Mr Puddles back right now!" | 0:16:02 | 0:16:05
Lady Pom-Pom looked at Paul and Sally | 0:16:05 | 0:16:09
and then she jumped up and dashed away. | 0:16:09 | 0:16:11
CROCKERY SMASHES | 0:16:11 | 0:16:14
"It's not funny!" said Sally as they rushed up the stairs. | 0:16:14 | 0:16:18
"Give him back!" | 0:16:18 | 0:16:20
"Uh-oh!" said Paul. | 0:16:20 | 0:16:23
Sally and Paul followed the messy trail | 0:16:23 | 0:16:26
right back into the bedroom. | 0:16:26 | 0:16:28
But where was Lady Pom-Pom now? | 0:16:28 | 0:16:31
"Drop!" ordered Paul | 0:16:31 | 0:16:34
and Mr Puddles fell into his arms. | 0:16:34 | 0:16:37
"Phew!" said Sally. | 0:16:37 | 0:16:40
"We got him back and nobody even saw!" | 0:16:40 | 0:16:44
That story was called The Big Adventure Of The Smalls. | 0:16:46 | 0:16:50
Now, I think it's time for you to settle down to sleep | 0:16:50 | 0:16:54
and dream about a big adventure of your own | 0:16:54 | 0:16:56
and I'll see you soon for another bedtime story. Night-night. | 0:16:56 | 0:17:00 |
