Hello, I'm Stephen.

Are you ready for a story?

And are you snuggling up with your favourite toy?

Little Annie in tonight's bedtime story just loves her snuggles.

This story is called The Snuggle Sandwich,

and it's by Malachy Doyle and Gwen Millward.

It's quiet in the morning, when there's no-one else around.

Annie lies in bed and listens.

HE WHISPERS There's not a single sound!

It's cold out on the landing,

as she's peeping round the doors.

Her mama's smiling back at her,

and Papa only snores.

Annie climbs up Mama's tummy

and she wiggles down in bed.

They're a cosy snuggle sandwich.

She's the jam and they're the bread.

Then she and Mama tiptoe to the kitchen, down the stair.

Mama lights the gas and warms the milk for her and Edward Bear.

Mama shouts to wake the others,

"Get up!" We hear her roar.

So only Annie's watching when her teddy hits the floor.

Poor old Edward! Sad and all alone.

Annie didn't mean to drop you on the cold, hard stone!

Here comes Annie's papa in his tidy suit and tie.

He's singing and he's joking. He's a happy morning guy!

Next, there's Annie's sister, rushing to get ready.

She finds her bag and hat and coat,

but no-one finds poor Teddy.

In stomps the noisy one,

her teenage brother, Joe.

He turns on the radio

as loud as it'll go!

They're all bashing around the kitchen, crashing up and down.

And suddenly, they're gone,

as Papa's car roars off to town.

At last, her mama hears her.

"Oh, have you lost your bear?"

She lifts her from her high chair. They're searching everywhere.

He isn't on the table,

he isn't on the floor.

He isn't in the kitchen sink, he's not outside the door!

He isn't on the landing,

and he isn't in the bed!

He's in the doggy basket,

snuggled up with Fred!

It's quiet in the morning.

Now Teddy's back again.

The morning rush is over.

Annie's favourite time is when

there's only her and Mama.

No more fuss and clutter.

Now THEY'RE the snuggle sandwich,

and Ted's the peanut butter! HE LAUGHS

And that story was called The Snuggle Sandwich.

Shall we try making a snuggle sandwich

with two of our favourite toys?

Eh?

Oh, here we go!

Snuggle tight.

Oh, feels good, doesn't it?
