Oh, hello! | 0:30:15 | 0:30:16
Welcome to Blue Note Jazz Club. | 0:30:18 | 0:30:21
I'm Guy, and we'll have a special guest playing here this evening. | 0:30:21 | 0:30:25
Let me tell you all about him in tonight's bedtime story, which is | 0:30:25 | 0:30:30
called Mr Big and it's by Ed Vere. | 0:30:30 | 0:30:34
Let me tell you a story about a friend of mine. | 0:30:34 | 0:30:38
He goes by the name of Big, Mr Big. | 0:30:38 | 0:30:42
Now, Mr Big had a small problem. | 0:30:43 | 0:30:46
Compared to everyone else, he was extremely big! | 0:30:48 | 0:30:54
He was so big that anywhere he went, | 0:30:54 | 0:30:57
all everyone saw was someone big and scary. | 0:30:57 | 0:31:01
No-one stuck around to find out who he really was. | 0:31:02 | 0:31:06
So inside, Mr Big felt very, very small. | 0:31:08 | 0:31:12
When Mr Big went to the cafe, everyone had other things to do. | 0:31:14 | 0:31:19
When Mr Big got on the bus, everybody else got off. | 0:31:19 | 0:31:25
And when he went to the pool, well, | 0:31:25 | 0:31:28
let's just say everyone needed to be somewhere else. | 0:31:28 | 0:31:33
No-one ever saw the real Mr Big. | 0:31:33 | 0:31:37
One day, Mr Big noticed a piano in a shop window. | 0:31:37 | 0:31:41
It looked all alone, just like him. So he bought it and took it home. | 0:31:42 | 0:31:49
As Mr Big sat alone at the piano, | 0:31:51 | 0:31:55
he thought of all the things that made him sad. | 0:31:55 | 0:31:58
Then he played. | 0:31:58 | 0:31:59
HE PLAYS PIANO | 0:31:59 | 0:32:05
"Hey, man! That cat can play!" | 0:32:05 | 0:32:07
His music drifted out through the open window | 0:32:08 | 0:32:12
and into the evening sky. | 0:32:12 | 0:32:15
It drifted across the rooftops over to his neighbours, | 0:32:15 | 0:32:19
and they wondered who was playing such beautiful music. | 0:32:19 | 0:32:23
The word spread, and night after night, | 0:32:25 | 0:32:28
everyone came from all over town. | 0:32:28 | 0:32:31
And still, no-one knew who was playing. It was a big mystery. | 0:32:31 | 0:32:36
But inside, Mr Big was still alone. | 0:32:37 | 0:32:41
Then one morning, Mr Big received his first ever letter. | 0:32:42 | 0:32:48
It was an invitation, and it said, "Dear Mystery Pianist, | 0:32:48 | 0:32:53
"thank you for your beautiful music. | 0:32:53 | 0:32:56
"Everyone's been listening to you for weeks, | 0:32:56 | 0:32:59
"and we're all wondering one thing. Who are you? We'd love to meet you! | 0:32:59 | 0:33:06
"Me and a couple of the guys are playing tonight at the Blue Note. | 0:33:06 | 0:33:09
"Please come and join our band! See you later? A friend." | 0:33:09 | 0:33:14
That night, Mr Big joined the band. | 0:33:17 | 0:33:20
All night long, the joint was jumping and nobody wanted to leave! | 0:33:21 | 0:33:27
At last, everyone could see the real Mr Big. Go, baby! Go! Groovy, man! | 0:33:27 | 0:33:35
Hot, man! Yeah, baby! Jazz! Yeah, cool! He's cookin', Daddio! | 0:33:35 | 0:33:42
That's all, folks! Let's hear it for Mr Big. | 0:33:43 | 0:33:47
APPLAUSE | 0:33:47 | 0:33:48
Now that The Big Band has hit the big time, | 0:33:48 | 0:33:51
and everyone wants to meet them, Mr Big has a new problem. | 0:33:51 | 0:33:56
He doesn't get much time to be alone. | 0:33:56 | 0:33:59
And that's just the way he likes it. | 0:33:59 | 0:34:02
And that story was called Mr Big. | 0:34:03 | 0:34:07
I hope you enjoyed Mr Big's performance. | 0:34:07 | 0:34:10
He really is the talk of the town! | 0:34:10 | 0:34:13
I'll see you soon for another bedtime story. Sweet dreams. | 0:34:13 | 0:34:19
