CBeebies Bedtime Story... | 0:43:03 | 0:43:05
Hello. I'm Guy. | 0:43:06 | 0:43:08
I'm going to read you a story about a cat | 0:43:09 | 0:43:12
who always seems to be getting into trouble. | 0:43:12 | 0:43:15
Now, are you sitting comfortably? | 0:43:15 | 0:43:18
Good. Then I'll begin. | 0:43:18 | 0:43:19
Tonight's bedtime story is called Mog The Forgetful Cat | 0:43:21 | 0:43:25
and it's by Judith Kerr. | 0:43:25 | 0:43:26
Once there was a cat called Mog. | 0:43:28 | 0:43:30
She lived with a family called Thomas. | 0:43:30 | 0:43:33
Debbie, Mr Thomas, Mrs Thomas and Nicky. | 0:43:33 | 0:43:37
Mog was nice but not very clever. | 0:43:38 | 0:43:41
She didn't understand a lot of things. | 0:43:41 | 0:43:44
A lot of other things, she forgot. | 0:43:44 | 0:43:47
She was a very forgetful cat. | 0:43:47 | 0:43:49
Sometimes, she ate her supper, then she forgot that she had eaten it. | 0:43:49 | 0:43:54
Sometimes, she thought of something in the middle of washing her leg, | 0:43:55 | 0:43:59
then she forgot to wash the rest of it. | 0:43:59 | 0:44:02
Once, she forgot that cats can't fly. | 0:44:02 | 0:44:05
But most of all, she forgot her cat flap. | 0:44:06 | 0:44:09
The cat flap led from the kitchen into the garden. | 0:44:10 | 0:44:14
Mog could go out and in again. It was her own little door. | 0:44:14 | 0:44:19
The garden always made Mog very excited. | 0:44:20 | 0:44:24
She smelled all the smells, she chased the birds, | 0:44:24 | 0:44:27
she climbed the trees, | 0:44:27 | 0:44:29
she ran round and round with a big fluffed-up tail. | 0:44:29 | 0:44:33
And then she forgot the cat flap. | 0:44:33 | 0:44:35
She forgot that she had a cat flap. | 0:44:35 | 0:44:38
She wanted to go back into the house, | 0:44:38 | 0:44:40
but she couldn't remember how. | 0:44:40 | 0:44:42
In the end, she sat outside the kitchen window | 0:44:42 | 0:44:45
and meowed until someone let her in. | 0:44:45 | 0:44:48
Afterwards, you could always tell where she'd sat. | 0:44:48 | 0:44:53
This made Mr Thomas very sad. | 0:44:53 | 0:44:55
He said, "Bother that cat." | 0:44:55 | 0:44:58
But Debbie said, "She's nice." | 0:44:58 | 0:45:01
Once, Mog had a very bad day. | 0:45:02 | 0:45:05
Even the start of the day was bad. | 0:45:05 | 0:45:08
Mog was still asleep, then Nicky picked her up. | 0:45:08 | 0:45:11
He hugged her and said, "Nice kitty." | 0:45:11 | 0:45:15
Mog said nothing, but she was not happy. | 0:45:15 | 0:45:19
Then it was breakfast time. | 0:45:19 | 0:45:20
Mog forgot that cats have milk for breakfast. | 0:45:20 | 0:45:23
She forgot that cats only have eggs as a treat. | 0:45:23 | 0:45:27
She ate an egg for her breakfast. Mrs Thomas said, "Bother that cat!" | 0:45:27 | 0:45:32
Debbie said, "Nicky doesn't like eggs anyway." | 0:45:32 | 0:45:35
Mog looked through her cat flap. It was raining in the garden. | 0:45:36 | 0:45:41
Mog thought, "Perhaps the sun is shining in the street." | 0:45:41 | 0:45:45
When the milkman came, she ran out. The milkman shut the door. | 0:45:46 | 0:45:50
The sun was not shining in the street after all. It was raining. | 0:45:51 | 0:45:55
A big dog came down the street. | 0:45:55 | 0:45:58
Mog ran. The dog ran, too. | 0:45:58 | 0:46:01
Mog ran right round the house and the dog ran after her. | 0:46:01 | 0:46:05
She climbed over the fence. She ran through the garden | 0:46:05 | 0:46:08
and jumped up outside the kitchen window. | 0:46:08 | 0:46:11
She meowed a big meow, very sudden and very loud. | 0:46:11 | 0:46:15
Mrs Thomas said, "Bother that cat." | 0:46:15 | 0:46:18
Debbie said, "It wasn't her fault." | 0:46:18 | 0:46:20
Mog was very sleepy. | 0:46:22 | 0:46:24
She found a nice, warm, soft place and went to sleep. | 0:46:24 | 0:46:29
She had a lovely dream. | 0:46:29 | 0:46:31
Mog dreamed that she had wings. She could fly everywhere. | 0:46:31 | 0:46:35
She could fly faster than the birds, even quite big birds. | 0:46:35 | 0:46:40
Suddenly, she woke up. Mrs Thomas said, "Bother that cat." | 0:46:40 | 0:46:45
Debbie said, "I think you look nicer without a hat." | 0:46:45 | 0:46:49
Debbie gave Mog her supper and Mog ate it all up. | 0:46:50 | 0:46:54
Then Debbie and Nicky went to bed. | 0:46:54 | 0:46:57
Mog had a rest, too. But Mr Thomas wanted to see the fight. | 0:46:57 | 0:47:01
Mr Thomas said, "Bother that cat." | 0:47:01 | 0:47:03
Mog thought, "Nobody likes me..." | 0:47:04 | 0:47:08
Then she thought, "Debbie likes me." | 0:47:08 | 0:47:11
Debbie's door was open. | 0:47:12 | 0:47:14
Debbie's bed was warm. | 0:47:14 | 0:47:16
Debbie's hair was soft, like kitten fur. | 0:47:16 | 0:47:20
Mog forgot that Debbie was not a kitten. | 0:47:20 | 0:47:23
Debbie had a dream. It was a bad dream. | 0:47:24 | 0:47:27
It was a dream about a tiger. | 0:47:27 | 0:47:30
The tiger wanted to eat Debbie. It was licking her hair. | 0:47:30 | 0:47:34
Debbie shouted. Mog jumped. | 0:47:34 | 0:47:37
Mr and Mrs Thomas said, "Bother, bother, bother that cat." | 0:47:37 | 0:47:41
Debbie said nothing. She was still crying because of the bad dream. | 0:47:43 | 0:47:47
Mog ran out of the room and right through the house | 0:47:47 | 0:47:50
and out of her cat flap. | 0:47:50 | 0:47:52
She was very sad. | 0:47:52 | 0:47:53
The garden was dark. | 0:47:55 | 0:47:57
The house was dark, too. | 0:47:57 | 0:48:00
Mog sat in the dark and thought dark thoughts. | 0:48:00 | 0:48:03
She thought, "Nobody likes me. They've all gone to bed. | 0:48:03 | 0:48:08
"There's no-one to let me in | 0:48:08 | 0:48:10
"and they haven't even given me my supper." | 0:48:10 | 0:48:12
Then she noticed something. | 0:48:13 | 0:48:16
The house was not quite dark. | 0:48:16 | 0:48:18
There was a little light moving about. | 0:48:18 | 0:48:21
She looked through the window and saw a man in the kitchen. | 0:48:21 | 0:48:25
Mog thought, "Perhaps that man will let me in. | 0:48:25 | 0:48:28
"Perhaps he'll give me my supper." | 0:48:28 | 0:48:31
She meowed her biggest meow, very sudden and very, very loud. | 0:48:31 | 0:48:36
The man was surprised. He dropped his bag. | 0:48:36 | 0:48:38
It made a big noise and everyone in the house woke up. | 0:48:38 | 0:48:42
Mr Thomas ran down to the kitchen and shouted, "A burglar!" | 0:48:42 | 0:48:46
The burglar said, "Bother that cat." | 0:48:46 | 0:48:49
Mrs Thomas telephoned the police. | 0:48:51 | 0:48:54
Debbie let Mog in and Nicky hugged her. | 0:48:54 | 0:48:57
A policeman came and they told him what had happened. | 0:48:57 | 0:49:00
The policeman looked at Mog. He said, "What a remarkable cat. | 0:49:00 | 0:49:05
"I've seen watchdogs, but never a watchcat. She will get a medal." | 0:49:06 | 0:49:12
Debbie said, "I think she'd rather have an egg." | 0:49:12 | 0:49:15
Mog had a medal. She also had an egg every day for breakfast. | 0:49:16 | 0:49:21
Mr and Mrs Thomas told all their friends about her. | 0:49:22 | 0:49:26
They said, "Mog is really remarkable." | 0:49:26 | 0:49:30
And they never, or almost never, said, "Bother that cat." | 0:49:30 | 0:49:35
That story was called Mog The Forgetful Cat. | 0:49:37 | 0:49:41
I hope you enjoyed it. Now it's time for you to go to bed. | 0:49:41 | 0:49:45
So snuggle up, and have sweet dreams. | 0:49:45 | 0:49:48
Good night and I'll see you soon for another bedtime story. | 0:49:48 | 0:49:52 |
