CBeebies Bedtime Story.

Oh, dear. They don't match.

Oh, hello. I'm Shelley. Can you help me?

I'm hanging out the washing,

and there are so many socks - none match! Look.

One's orange and white, One's rainbow-coloured...

It'll take a long time to pair up these socks.

There are odd socks in tonight's story.

Pippin and Tog have lost a special coloured sock.

The story is by Joyce Dunbar and Sanja Rescek - Where's My Sock?

Pippin was cross. Pippin was really cross.

Pippin was as cross as can be.

"What's the matter, Pippin?" asked Tog.

"I can't find my other sock," said Pippin.

"Which sock?" asked Tog.

"My yellow sock with the clocks," said Pippin.

"Like the one I'm wearing."

"I'll help find it," said Tog. Tog looked in the sock drawer.

He found lots of socks but he didn't find a yellow sock with clocks.

"A red sock with spots?" he asked.

Pippin said, "I want my yellow sock with clocks."

"How about a blue sock with stripes?" said Tog.

"No," said Pippin. "I need my yellow sock with clocks."

"How about a green sock with stars?" said Tog.

"No," said Pippin. "I must have my yellow sock with clocks!

"I don't want odd socks. I want to wear matching socks.

"I shall look until I find it."

Pippin emptied the sock drawer. And the handkerchief drawer

and the sweater drawer and the bits-and-bobs drawer.

No yellow socks with clocks.

He emptied the laundry basket, the ironing basket, and the wastebasket,

and the fruit basket!

No yellow socks with clocks.

"Sock! Sock, where are you?" wailed Pippin.

"It's only a sock," said Tog. "It's no use crying over a lost sock."

"I'm not crying," said Pippin. "I'm cross!"

"Think of the poor lost sock," said Tog.

"How awful it must feel!"

"That's a thought," said Pippin. "It will be all alone," said Tog.

"It may never ever be found," said Pippin.

"Think of all the lost socks in the world," said Tog.

"All the odd socks.

"Socks that nobody wants to know.

"Think of the socks with holes in the toes.

"All the lonesome socks.

"Socks that have lost their stretch. Socks that have shrunk in the wash.

"Socks that were never ever worn."

"That's a lot of sad socks," said Pippin.

"And I'm a very sad Tog," said Tog.

"I've got an idea," said Tog. "Let's go on a proper sock hunt."

"That'll be fun," said Pippin. "Let's see how many we can find."

They hunted socks lost under cushions, socks behind chairs,

they hunted socks stuffed in pockets, and in shoes.

Socks left in washing machines, socks blown away in the wind.

They made a big pile. They tried to put them in pairs.

"This is difficult," said Pippin. "We are making a muddle."

"Put them in a line," said Tog. "We'll sort them out."

They put them in a line,

and followed the line, putting the socks in pairs.

"There are still odd socks left over," said Pippin.

"But no yellow socks with clocks."

"You know what?" said Tog.

"I think your yellow sock with clocks is hiding from us on purpose!

"It will never ever be found."

"Then I shall wear odd socks after all," said Pippin.

"I shall wear one yellow sock with clocks, and one plain pink sock."

And Pippin did.

"I shall wear odd socks too," said Tog.

"I wonder which pair I've got on." Pippin helped Tog with his shoes.

Tog was wearing one purple sock with dots, and...

one yellow sock with clocks!

And that story was called Where's My Sock?

Pippin may have found his sock,

but I haven't managed to match all of those socks yet!

I'll carry on while you go to bed,

and I'll see you soon for another story. Night-night.
