we have to introduce a woman who has been there from the very beginning.

Now let's get down to business. This is the semi-final,

where you guys at home decide the fate of our acts.

The top five made it this far by wowing our judges.

But now they need to perform to win your votes.

Earlier today, our acts recorded their performances

especially for you.

The groups with the most votes will go through to the final, where

one of them will become the winner of Comic Relief Does Glee Club 2013.

It's very exciting!

And the final ingredient to make this show go off with a bang,

four people so renowned in the entertainment industry,

Simon Cowell actually calls them for advice!

You know who they are, it's the judges.

'They are the top coaches in the industry and have worked with

'a host of stars, from the Saturdays to Olly Murs.

I loved the choreography, the concept, how quirky it was.

I think this is the strongest series we've had, they are amazing.

It's very tough, because as Carrie said, it just gets better

and better. I'm glad that we only have this much responsibility!

is one of our two acts from Scotland.

Bittersweet, you are looking absolutely gorgeous today.

Tell me, how does it feel to make it to the semifinals?

Well, it's really good, because we didn't exactly expect it,

considering we didn't win our heat. But it's exciting.

What a lovely surprise, eh?

Gemma, do you reckon you guys have got a secret weapon?

Well, actually, we have a secret prop, for the final.

But it's not been done yet in this show.

We can't tell you what it is, so to see it, you have to vote us in.

So, you need the vote to see this prop.

I like your tactical thinking there, very good.

So before you perform, I wish you the best of luck.

Let's take a look at your journey to the semi-final.

'Bittersweet went all out to impress at the judges' auditions,

'and didn't disappoint.'

I loved the vocals, the "dit-dit-dit"!

I'm going to be singing that for days now.

It's like watching a little mini performance from a musical.

'And in Round One, they blew the judges away.'

Confidence, attitude and swagger.

I loved the choreography and the conviction.

I think you would definitely give Little Mix a run for their money.

'But for their survival song, there were mixed reactions.'

It was a little bit shouty, so the vocal sound wasn't so good.

What this song required that

you seemed unable to really give it fully is warmth.

We'll take the judges' criticism in and just, like,

if we get through, then we'll do what they say.

'they still made it through to today's semi-final.'

Carrie, it's always difficult to open the show.

How do you think Bittersweet did there?

I think every Glee Club today is going to feel super nervous.

But that was a great choice of song for you.

What I've always loved about you guys is your energy, and that just

burst out again, you burst out the screen when I watch it back at home.

Absolutely brilliant. I don't know that the soloists

were as strong today, but the ensemble work was beautiful.

Brilliant, OK.

David, do you reckon Bittersweet could be the next big girl band?

I tell you what they have done.

They have really raised the bar,

and everybody who wants to get through is going to have to jump it.

Today is our first voting day and you've given people a reason to vote.

What I asked you for on the last performance was that you give 100% energy, which you did,

and 80% volume, so that you could have tone and control, and you did that as well, so well done.

John, what is it you like about Bittersweet?

You know, from day one,

you girls have had what I call the feelgood factor.

I'm always smiling, every time you finish performing.

What I like about you is that you're not trying to be older than

you are, you don't come across that way, and yet, you have the artistic

intelligence to get into character, no matter what song you are singing.

-Fantastic, good stuff.

-Nice one.

And finally, Sisco, choreography expert, was that a good performance?

I think the choreography was spot-on.

You didn't do too much, it suited the song, it suited you guys,

you looked like you had so much fun.

The only critique I had, I wish the soloists had more

projection in the voice, because as soon as the ensemble stopped

singing, it was just like, there was lack of volume.

But other than that, you looked amazing and danced amazing.

How are you planning to use them to get yourself through to the final?

Our strengths are certainly our vocals.

We're going to take the comments on board from the last round

and strip our choreography right back so that we can concentrate

on our harmonies and our connection with the lyrics.

Harriet, is everybody from the Isle of Wight supporting you today?

Well, we certainly hope so and we just hope

Resonate have shown the skills to be a resounding success

The vocals were really soothing and smooth.

I absolutely loved that song and the good news is, I still love it.

Things didn't go to plan in the first round of the studio heats.

I think the song slightly got the better of you.

This isn't your type of song. I felt like the song slightly exposed you.

But for their survival song, Resonate found their voice...

That was a world-class performance.

David, you have worked with some of the best vocalists in the world.

How were the vocals in that performance?

Well, you were asked to turn every song into a song that suited you,

to make it stylistically work to your strengths and that's what you did.

I've got to say the a cappella bit in the middle was a mad thing

to do at this stage because it shows every flaw,

every mistake and every discrepancy, but there weren't any.

-That was fantastic.

-Thank you very much.

-Are you all right, Carrie?

Carrie is crying here, she must've liked it.

John, were you entertained, mate?

Yeah, you guys are more than entertainment.

I think you are an experience to be remembered,

Sisco, are you glad Resonate are in the semifinal?

Definitely, you guys blew me away last time.

I was absolutely gobsmacked

and what I love about you guys is that clarity in your harmonies.

You can really almost see every single layer that you're singing

and it's incredible.

Personally, I preferred your Leona Lewis rendition but that's not to say

that this was not good because vocally that was amazing.

What did you think of that performance?

I want to let you into a little secret about talent shows.

Every judge on every talent show thinks, "Did I just say something

"that I shouldn't have said?" Everyone thinks it.

I'm going to stand by what I said. I believe you guys are world-class.

after making it through to the judges' auditions.

You guys absolutely nailed it.

Honestly, this song requires so much vocal thickness

and just raw soul, you should have just stuck with one soloist,

personally, because it was such a shaky start,

I think that nerves got the better out of the first two vocalists,

the soloists, but the charisma, the choreography, was all perfect.

I just wish you had stuck with the one soloist that can actually

give that song that punch it needed.

Carrie, you said MAD were brilliant, brilliant, brilliant

in the auditions. Were they brilliant this time?

I think you have the potential to be brilliant, brilliant, brilliant,

but we're now playing in the big league.

I think the second half of it was great.

It was so long before we got all of you singing.

It was about halfway through before we heard all the voices.

I would've liked the voices a little earlier and I really stick by what

we said last time, Ayesha - she's like a mammoth singer, so use her.

You guys are great ensemble but fantastic

but if you do get through, you've got to pick your best singers.

because the volume of the vocals slightly descended in the middle

but you know what? When something's that funny and random,

their wall of sound from the moment they took the Glee Club stage.

Carrie, was that the standard you were expecting?

You know, these guys always deliver in terms of uniformity.

You all look, even, the same in what you're wearing,

but uniformity of tone and sound is always there. You always deliver.

I wanted a bit more punch in those choruses, somehow.

I wanted it to be able to lift up a gear and it wasn't quite there,

but still, all that beautiful uniformity there. Lovely.

David. Raveheart have gone one step further than they did last year.

Can they go all the way to the final, do you think?

Well, that's down to the viewers, isn't it?

It's not in our hands any more, but what I will say is, once again,

you're given people a reason to vote.

I think you give people a reason to want to be in your gang

because you do look like a gang and what you did out there was say,

"Come on, if you think you're bad enough, get in ahead of us!"

John, you have been a fan of Raveheart from the very beginning.

Have they done you proud?

You girls always do me proud,

and today, especially, you fly the flag high for Scotland

and it was a great performance.

And finally, Sisco, what do you think of Raveheart's performance?

I think vocally you guys are impossible to critique.

Like Carrie said, it's so uniform and so clear, I loved it.

One thing I'd say, I thought the choreography

was a little two-dimensional, it needed more formations.

Maybe that would have taken up it up a gear

because visually, you just looked a little still, but it's a vocal...

-And the vocals were amazing.

Lovely David, how much credit would you give

to our performers for actually doing a grand job?

Loads. I'd give credit to Bittersweet for bubbly excitement.

Credit to Resonate for being THE vocal ensemble.

Credit to M.A.D for street-y, urban energy, credit to LS8 for not

being over-the-top, they don't even know a top exists.

Credit to Raveheart for being pure, unadulterated syncopated fun.

John, what surprised you the most today?

What surprised me the most is the level of increase I've seen

before my eyes from every group, the focus, energy, sound, everything.

They've come here and they've come ready to fight for that prize.

You know what? I'm very proud for the five acts.

Five very different styles of choreography. How did they compare?

What I love about every single finalist is

they stuck to their own style.

Each choreography represented them, and that's what

we wanted to see because if not we're judging the same thing.

So it was so good to see they stuck to their fortes.

How would you sum up today's semifinal?

I tell you what, if I was a kid watching this programme

I would want to be in every one of those groups. There is something for everybody.

You have the two Scottish bands battling it out in the pop area,

rhythm and blues, musical theatre,

-whatever your taste is you have got someone to vote for.

-Definitely.

It is a tough decision for you guys at home, and an even tougher wait

for the supporters of the acts which have come from all over the UK.

Listen, they've done really well, they've really performed well,

All of tonight's acts have been supporting Comic Relief

and you can too by doing something funny for money to help people

who really need help, here in the UK and in Africa.

Recently, we visited a charity

set up to help children with cerebral palsy

to find out how money raised by Comic Relief can make a difference.

Take a look.

We are here in Liverpool to meet an amazing boy called Joseph.

He's ten, he loves swimming, hanging out with his friends

and supporting his favourite football team Everton FC.

Joseph also has cerebral palsy, which means every day is a challenge for him.

Just getting out of bed, putting on some clothes

and walking down the stairs can sometimes be a struggle.

We are here to find out how Comic Relief funding

has made a real difference to Joseph's life.

-Hi, Mark.

-How you doing? I'm Sam.

Nice to see you.

'Joseph's mum Kate discovered he had cerebral palsy when he was just two years old.'

-We were concerned that he wasn't walking...

-He wasn't mobile, he'd sit there and not move.

It was devastating. We didn't know much about it.

We didn't know if he'd walk or anything.

It was a total unknown to us and it was like our whole world fell apart.

'Cerebral palsy is a neurological condition,

'which means that children who have it can find movement and coordination difficult.

'It affects 1 in 400 children in the UK.'

Joseph, what's it like having cerebral palsy?

Cerebral palsy does affect me.

It's basically my legs, it's my arms.

When I've been walking a long distance, I get tired easily

or if I'm doing a long writing test, I can't do it with my hand cos it gets sore.

It must be great for you because every Monday, you go to Stick 'n' Step

which is a Comic Relief-funded project which is what we're here to see today.

It's basically just exercises for my lower and upper body.

It's anything. It's hands, legs.

They make it fun, they make it a laugh. They do games with it.

It is a big part of my life. Without it, I wouldn't be the person I am today.

It sounds fantastic! We need to see this place, but we need a tour guide.

-Are you up for that?

-Yeah.

-Fantastic!

-Can I finish my tea first?

-Yeah.

-Awesome, thank you!

'Joseph visits Stick 'n' Step once a week for over three hours.

'It's completely free and provides a specialist support service to children with cerebral palsy.'

Go on, after you.

'The emphasis is on fun and play so the kids can gain confidence

'and become more independent.

'They learn the skills they need to do things most kids take for granted -

'from drawing a picture to playing games.

'The kids here also learn special exercises to control their muscles and help with movement.

'Krizsti has been teaching Joseph since he first started here over eight years ago.

'He's now seen as an important role model to many of the younger children.'

Joseph seems to be loved by everybody here. They all seem to look up to him.

He's like a big brother.

"I've been through this, I've done this. I can help you."

Have you seen the little connections? "Hold my hand and I'll stand up first."

It's this supportive, warm, loving environment

that this centre provides, gave him that confidence to do this.

For them it's a massive challenge, pushing their boundaries,

but they get on with it because we provide this play-based environment.

We are here to show families there is hope.

Our ethos is, "Taking the ability out of disability."

And you've seen that today.

We've been doing our warm ups and that's important

because we're going to be doing something else next, aren't we?

Yes, next is the football game.

We have absolutely loved being here today.

and we can see why you love coming here so much.

What would you be doing if Stick 'n' Step wasn't here?

I wouldn't have been doing that. I wouldn't have had

the energy to do that.

-I probably couldn't even walk to do that.

So you'd say that this has given you the energy and the strength to

be able to take part in physical activities like that. Brilliant.

We can see that you have a lot of fun and make a lot of friends.

It's been fantastic. We've had a great time.

When you look at Joseph he's been helped a lot by going to

Stick 'n' Step. It's brought him on. Where he is today it's credit to them.

He's bubbly, he's energetic, he's full of life.

He's just a sensitive, caring, lovely young man.

Stick 'n' Step depends solely on charitable donations and fundraising

so it can continue to provide this amazing free service for Joseph

and all the other kids that come here.

the way from the Isle of Wight.

Does that mean a lot to people on the island?

The island is such a lovely place to live but there are not that

many opportunities so it is a great experience for us to come here

and it is such a great cause so it's amazing.

So if you were lucky enough to get to the final what would

you do to thank everybody at home?

We just want to make everybody proud and do our best to show what we've got.

I bet you're going to do it.

What about MAD. Hey, girls how are you enjoying your time in Scotland?

Great. We're having lots of fun making the most of our time

and we just want everyone to know that we tried our best

and we see everyone as equal.
